The program of Bhagavat Dharma is to kill the lust

The program of Bhagavat Dharma is to kill the lust

We will start with Canto 8, chapter 9, text no. 10 – 11, so start with text number 10 which has no purport, then we will move on to text no. 11 which is on the board.

salavrkanam strinam ca
svairininam sura dvisah
sakhyany ahur anityani
nutnam nutnam vicinvatam
(SB 8.9.10)

O demons, as monkeys, jackals and dog are unsteady in their sexual relationships and want newer and newer friends every day, women who live independently seek new friends daily. Friendship with such a women is never permanent. This is the opinion of learned scholars.
Text number 11, please repeat

sri suka uvaca
iti te ksvelitais tasya
asvasta manaso surah
jahasur bhava gambhiRama
dadus camrta bhajanam

(repeated twice)
Sri sukah uvach- Sri Sukadeva Goswami said; iti – thus; te – those demons; ksvelitaih – by speaking as if jokingly; tasyah – of Mohini Murti; asvasta – grateful, with faith; manasah – their minds; asurah – all the demons; jahusuh –laughed; bhava-gambhiRama – although Mohini Murti was full
of gravity; daduh – delivered; ca- also; amrta bhajanam –the container of nectar.

Translation and Purport by Srila Prabhupada,

Srila Prabhupada ki Jai.

Sri Sukedava Goswami continued: after the demons heard the words of Mohini murti, who had spoken as if jokingly, they were all very confident. They laughed with gravity, and ultimately they delivered the container of nectar into her hands.

That’s good,

Purport: The Personality of Godhead in his form of (doesn’t say in her form) of Mohini was certainly not joking by talking seriously, with gravity. Although that form of female form women form, it is still Purusah. The demons, however, being captivated by Mohini-murti’s bodily features, took her
words as a joke and confidently delivered the container of nectar into her hands. Thus Mohini-murti resembles Lord Buddha, who appeared sammohaya sura dvisam [SB 1.3.24]– to cheat the asuras. The word sura dvisam refers to those who are envious of the demigods or devotees.

Sometimes an incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead cheats the atheists. Thus we see here that although Mohini murti was speaking factually to the asuras, the asuras took her words to be facetious. Indeed they were so confident of Mohini-murti’s honesty that they immediately
delivered the container of nectar into her hands, as if they would allow her to do whatever she liked, whether she distributed it, threw it away or drank it herself without giving it to them.

So much confidence they had in the words of Mohini Murti.

sri suka uvaca
iti te ksvelitais tasya
asvasta manaso surah
jahasur bhava gambhiRama
dadus camrta bhajanam (SB 8.9.11)

Sri Sukedava Goswami continued: After the demons heard the words of Mohini murti, who had spoken as if jokingly, they were all very confident. They laughed with gravity, and ultimately they delivered the container of nectar into her hands.

So this was the only possible way to retrieve the container of nectar (kumbha) which had landed in the hands of “sura-dvisha”, only possible way was Lord has taken a form of Mohini Murti. To them She is just another, another women. So that was the weapon, Lord is using to defeat, attack and defeat, all those asuras they were very much in the party, like 50 -50 in the endeavour to get the nectar. In the very beginning the whole strategy was sarpa-musak nyaya. Snake and mouse once caught in a container, in a trap.

Mouse is always caught in a trap then somehow one snake also entered and he could get in but then getting out was not possible, because door was shut an then there was a proposal from the snake because the mouse could cut open. It will take some extra time but chewing with his, he is expert in cutting so you make a hole and then we both be out. If you don’t help me with this, I will eat you up, but if you help me to get out. I will, you will be saved. So this is the logic. Sarpa- snake, musak – punarmusak bhava. So this was the logic used and proposed by the Lord, to the demigods. So you go ahead with this, get the help of the demons they are very strong and stout, you alone will not be able to churn the ocean of milk and as a result there will be nectar. You need help, additional help is required. So take help of the demons. Once the nectar is there, “ohh! We didn’t say that.”

So, that snake, so the rat/mouse helped making the hole, they were both out and once they were both out, snake did end up eating this mouse. So he wants to get out only with the help of that mouse, once he was out then, he also had his breakfast. So the demons would offer all the help in the churning and once the nectar was there, as the result of that churning, only demigods will get the nectar and not the demons. This was very, in the beginning this was the vision. Lord is helping in fact in this endeavour of getting the nectar, churning the nectar or churning the ocean of milk and finally getting the nectar.

So many incarnations are appearing here Ajita incarnation appears helping, anyway that I think we don’t want to get into that and then the tortoise, the Kashyap. avatar is appearing, one who had a pot Dhanvantari is appearing here. Then Mohini murti is appearing here. So with pastime of churning, the milk ocean, “Samdra Manthan.” Samdra is ocean and manthan is churning, many incarnations are associated with this pastime as you go through “Nityam Bhagavatam sevaya”. Lord incarnates as Mohini-murti is the chapter title and she has appeared and spoken also and she has addressed demons.

Dear demons, and she has spoken and the verse ten is Lord is talking of a siddhanta, the rule, the law. As monkeys and jackals and dogs are unsteady in their sexual relationships and want newer and newer friendships everyday. Women who live independently seek new friends daily, friendship with
such women is never permanent, friendship with me, you are kind of believing me, you are trusting me, but I am svairinnam, I am independent.

svairachar means svairinnam, my achar, my behaviour, my wondering is quite independent, in fact, not about her as such or him as such, Mohini murti but just stating the law, this is how things work in case of svairinnam, strinam svairinnam. If the stri is svairinnam, independent then “nutnam nutnam vicinvatam, they always seek nutnam, nutnam, newer and newer friendships they seek.

So that was concluding statement or some universal principal as it works or functions in this world. Lord Mohini Murti has said that to the sura-dvisah, oh demons and then Sukdeva Goswami, he is upholding that principle, what else could he do, let Lord speak for Himself, you shut up. Prabhupada would say, Let Lord speak for Himself, let Him speak, as He speaks. You don’t become stumbling block. You don’t dilute, you say as it is, say it. So same spirit, same elevation in, this is elevated thought, this is high thinking of the Lord highest thought.

iti te ksvelitais tasya (SB 8.9.11)

So Mohini-murti said “strinam svairinnam” because independent women another word, equivalent word is used by Sukdeva Goswami, “ksvelitais” meaning the same thing,

asvasta manaso surah
jahasur bhava gambhiRama
(SB 8.9.11)

Anyway he is just translating the mood of Lord Mohini murti dadus camrta bhajanam (SB 8.9.11)

So as “dadus” they gave amrita, “bhajanam” pot of nectar, back into the hands of Mohini murti or first time, it was not in the hands of Mohini murti, first time gave it to Mohini murti. And her words as if jokingly said words, they took them seriously and with all confidence and as Prabhupada is pointing out their mood. Oh! Whatever you wish to do with it, you may distribute or you may drink it yourself what else you could do, throw it away, with all that confidence with all that trust. “svairinnam” anyone who becomes independent, this is talk of women here becoming independent. However anyone who becomes independent gets into trouble that doesn’t help that person or that doesn’t help others who are dependent on
that person. I was reminded of because this “svarinnam” word I was reminded of similar word from the tenth canto of Bhagavatam.

kridasaktesu gopesu
tad gavo dura carinih
svaiRama carantyo vivisus
trna lobhena gahvaRama (SB 10.19.1)

While Krsna was playing with his friends the cows now had their backs towards the Lord and they were facing the grass and trna lobhena as they were greedy for the grass, they kept going with their backs towards Krsna svairan carantyo. And they become independent and they were wandering from forest to forest and the end result was, soon there was a forest fire, and they were caught in the middle forest fire, burning forest fire. And then ofcourse there was oh help, help, help help and then Krsna, when they were facing the Lord again. Lord says close your eyes and Lord drank all the
fire. So they were finally helped up but they got into trouble is the acarya’s comment in this verse.

svaiRama carantyo wandering of cows was svaiRama carantyo and trna lobhena they were greedy whether that’s Kama, Krodha or Lobha, Lobha is greed, the lust, anger, greed. This could be the cause of wandering away, back towards the Lord wandering independently, svaiRama carantyo, strinam svairininam and one could only invite the trouble for oneself and for others, that’s one comment on, even the cows, when they did the svairan carantyo, they got into the trouble as they didn’t stay in the vicinity of the Lord, but Lord was playing they could have stayed there. Whatever
little grass they were in need of instead they went away and that independent wandering of the cows ended up, they getting into the trouble.

strinam svairininam so in the previous verse, Srila Prabhupada has already, the famous moral instructor Chanakaya says.

visvasam naiva kartavyam
strisu raja kulesu ca

Not trust politician and women, famous one, difficult to digest lots of times, such instruction or such principle of morality. But Lord has appeared here, Srila Prabhupada is pointing, the Buddha appeared, sammohaya sura-dvisam (SB 1.3.24) to bewildered the demonic class and Lord has appeared here as Mohini murti to also bewilder the demons and He has taken the women form.

Women form has invested with such powers, balam me pasya mayayah (SB. 3.31.38) it was Kapil muni talking to his mother, she is also women, balam me pasya you want to see the power of that I have invested in form of a women, jayino disam (SB 3.31.38).

Some emperor he had just now returned to his capital and as bhruvi jrmbhena kevalam (3.31.38) as women only moves her eyebrows, he is emperor, conquer of the world and he has back to his palace or capital and he sees some women with the movement of eyebrows ya katoti padakrantan (3.31.38) he just ends up in their feet, licking their feet, serving their lotus feet, oh it is just feet.

balam me pasya mayayah ( 3.31.38), just see the bala of my maya, mam maya duratyaya (BG 7.14) this is my maya, I have invested such powers. So if maya, maya’s powers is exhibited by independent women, it is only talk of independent women. Independent woman is condemned as most undesirable thing to happen. Otherwise women are worshipped.

matravat pardareshu
losthavat pardareshu
yeha pasyati
seh pandita

Another principle of morality is that person is real pandit yeha pasyati one who sees matravat pardareshu all women as his mother, matravat pardareshu, atmavat servabhuteshu, other living entities as if they are him or myself. I respect other living entities, other parts and parcels of the Lord, as if they are myself. This is his vision. losthavat pardareshu, and the wealth of others, I have nothing to do, it is untouchable, I will not even touch or just, something is in the dustbin, yeha pasyati one who sees like this, is a real learned person. This is opinion of learned scholars.

Srila Prabhupada has translated the verse and this is opinion of the learned scholars. In the assembly of demigods, women is worshipped that society is civilized society or civilized country where women is honoured and worshipped, given position of a mother. If it is not society of devotees and demigods and civilized society then other things happen. An added this verse was reminded of the third chapter, there is a talk of Arjuna has a question.

atha kena prayukto yam
papam carati purusah (BG 3.36)

It is what it is, you know what is that,

anicchann api varsneya
balad iva niyojitah (BG. 3.36)

Sometimes, I know this is not right thing to do, this is sinful activity but you know something or someone, just drags me into it, annicchann api varsneya, balad iva niyojitah who is it, what is it, Oh Lord, This is Arjun’s question. If we also have similar question then we will also understand Lord’s reply to this question but we don’t bother such thoughts, don’t come to our mind and we will understand what Lord had to say but not, all the thing or everything that conveys us response to this question and it is a common answer, that it is all on the tip of our tongues and Krsna’s says.

Sri Bhagavan uvaca
kamaesa krodha esa
rajo guna samudbhavah

mahasano maha papma
viddhy enam iha vairinam (BG 3.37)

Lord begins like that and he has more to say viddhy enam, Arjuna do you have your notepad or writing dairy, viddhi, please not you should know , you should take a note of this. viddhy enam iha vairinam, oh that person, the force, something drags you in the activity which is as if you don’t wish
to perform that sin, that one is kama, that one is lust, Mr.Lust and Prabhupada says Mr. Lust has a younger brother called Mr. Anger because,

kamat krodho bhijayate (BG 2.62)

Kama krodha, first kama appears then krodho bhijayate, then there is a krodha, then there is a anger, frustration. The cinema’s have lot of time basically two things sex and violence. Samething. kamat krodho bhijayate (BG 2.62) Lord has said it kamat krodho bhijayate. One may say oh this is
your scripture, this is Hindu’s scripture, we are nothing to do with this, doesn’t matter in fact whether they know this is Lord’s statement, accept it or they don’t accept, same principal.

kamat krodho bhijayate (BG 2.62)

krodhad bhavati sammohah, Srila Prabhupada is pointing out in the purport that sammohah sura dvisam, Lord is appearing here as Mohini murti, sammohah suara dvisam, to bewildered the demons. So first there is a kama, which is in there, big stock of it. Kama and when that is not fulfilled then there is Krodha, frustration, anger and when it gets more thicker, concentrated anger, more and more anger person ends up with smrti bhRamasad buddhi naso ( BG 2.63) then Budhi intelligence is lost, this bewildered sammohah krodhad bhavati sammohah (BG 2.63) from anger comes sommohah, bewilderment. And when person is angry he is doing something crazy, crazy something, later on he may lament for. So advice is “When you are angry, just don’t act.” This is not time for action, take some deep breath, they advice like that, get your because the anger has turned up your breath, heavy breath and those heavy breaths, you are unsteady in your thought. So calm down and that is done with the help of asana and pranayam. Pranayam has role to play. Pranayam means it balance your thoughts within, with the help of deep breathing anyway this is that technique, our technique devotion technique.

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

With this also breath control is done, pranayam is also taken care of as one also chants in every dam, you are chanting, do your japa. You are also doing, you are sitting, chanting. The best asana for chanting is “sukhasana” or you could manage padama-asana or siddha asana. There are different
asana’s. This is sukhsana, crossed legged, you are sitting this is sukha-asana and this is the best asana for chanting. This is mode of goodness asana. As you get up, there is passion when you are up and when you lie down that is ignorance.

So these are two positions, three modes of material nature. So goodness, sitting is goodness and you chant. So we are in an asana and you are chanting and your pranayam is also taken care off and you are hearing Lord’s name that develops prema and that is just the other extreme of kama. You are bothered, you are agitated by kama and the solution is praying, replace kama, replace all that stuff, Kama with the prem and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has appeared with that gift of prema or love of Godhead. So why is Vedic culture, or the Vedas, the sastra’s are, why they are against this women, specially independent women, because in there, there is likely hood of this the kama, kama is aroused.

balam me pasya mayayah (SB. 3.31.38)

I have invested all the energies, in body of a women.
dhyayato visayan pumsah
sangas tesupajayate
sangat sanjayate kamah (BG. 2.62)

As one contemplates on objects of senses, the result is contemplated, contemplate on objects of senses, the form of women and women is also contemplating on form of a man and both ways it works, flow from one to the other and one to the other one. So independent women and independent uncontrolled mind, then dhyayato the contemplation is there. This women free or available or looking for a man and then some corresponding other men’s mind, also looking for and then

dhyayato visayan pumsah
sangas tesupajayate

If he is attached and from that attachment snagat sanjayate kamah, from that attachment comes lust and on and on and on and then buddhi nasat, they lost intelligent, buddhi nasat pranasyati (BG 2.63). You are doomed, person is doomed, all begins with some contemplation and then more things. So Lord has said this as, number one enemy. Arjuna there are others on the list but this one is number one. So the proposal of the Lord is, what do, how to deal with this enemy in the form of Kama.

papamanam prajahi hy enam
jnana vijnana nasanam (BG 3.41)

Lords proposal, so he spoke up, Kapil Dev, we are hearing here from Mohini murti, we are hearing from Lord Sri Krsna, learned scholars speak the same language. Sukdev Goswami. There is no hatred in Sukdev Goswami, he is such a pure, innocent personality, sarvabhut hridayam as if, he is in the
heart of everybody or he understands everyone’s heart and into such muni, I offer my obsciences. So Sukdev Goswami talks, as we said, he is upholding this principle, this principle of morality or just a social principle or etiquette for women and then other lessons for men and Srila Prabhupada, this is ,

dharma samsthapanarthaya
sambhavami yuge yuge (BG 4.8)

Bhagavatam is here, to establish Bhagavat Dharma, principles of Bhagavat Dharma, there is no room for hatred, love and hate, that is again “dvanda” of this dual nature, but this Krsna consciousness. Bhagavat is above the duality or is a means to bring the human race above this, love and hate and
kama and krodha and man and women principle. Only purusha is the Lord, Govindam adi purusham and everyone else is the prakriti, everyone else is a women in relationship with the Lord, everyone is a women.

Women is women, and men are also women, forget about this. At the spirit level and get rid of the bodies, spirit soul, prakriti and purusha, so that is the constitutional position. It changes with the bodies; women of today could be a man of tomorrow.

So Lord say, how to deal with this kama. What to do with this kama. What to do with this kama, with this lust and Lords proposal is “prajahi” jahi means to kill and Prajahi means real, really this kama, this lust has to be killed. There is no other way to deal with this. This is enemy, he has been termed branded as enemy to begin with. The kama is enemy viddhy enam iha vairinam (BG 3.37) so how to deal with this enemy and Lord’s say only thing is to kill this enemy. So I was just reading comments by “Sridhar Swami”, the famous or our previous senior acarya a commentator on Gita
and Bhagavatam, he says that to deal with enemy camp, enemy or as, there are four ways.

1. Sam
2. Dam
3. Danda
4. Bedha

Four things you could do, sam means some talk diplomatically or tactfully, have some talk and pacify him and ask him to, not to be enemy anymore at all. Talk it out, have a dialogue, sam Sridhar Swami says that doesn’t work with this enemy. You talk with Mr.Lust, he may not even come around for a round table conference, that’s sam. Then dam, means bribing, giving some bribe under the table, somehow, may be just give him part of the kingdom. Lord has already described him as mahasano maha papma (BG 3.37) he is such as sinful enemy that mahasano, sano means feeding.

So doesn’t matter how much you feed, he is never satisfied, whatever you feed, what bribe you, whatever you give him, he wants more and more and more. There is no end, mahasano, he has been described as “maha sano.” It’s like pouring oil or a ghee into the fire, so far that pouring is going on, there is no question of that free getting extinguished. So feeding this kama or giving, bribing, giving only something you know he will ask for more and more and more. So sam, dam, and then bedha, bedha means okay we are out casting you, you stay away, you don’t mix with us from now onwards. Something, something like that or separate him from what you say this, bedha difference. You are different or they are different, it is kind of put him out, alienated, good. You need to know some better words alienation. So he is part of the team alienation is done from the part of the group and he is alienated. So he is part of this Kama, krodha, Lobha, Mada, Moha, matsar, y this is a team, leading team, enemy team. So “Sridhar Maharaja says, it is difficult to separate them.” They can’t be separated where there is kama, there is krodha, anger and followed by lust and they are kind of one, they are also different, but they are one, the same group, they cannot be separated. So this bedha alienation also would not work. So sam, dam, bedha only remaining thing is danda, means punishment and the only punishment for this enemy is kill them, hang them. So while talking of killing, jahi, Lord says prajahi, not only jahi means killing, kill him, this is jahi, means he should be means, don’t leave any traces. Make sure he is dead, make sure and burn him.

So the purport of that Prabhupada writes of that Gita 3.41. Lust is only perverted reflection of the love of God, which is natural for every living entity. Love is natural, but if one is educated in Krsna consciousness from the very beginning, that natural love of god cannot deteriorate into lust, it is very difficult to return to the normal condition. Nonetheless, Krsna consciousness is so powerful that even a late beginner can become the lover of god by following the regulative principles of devotional service. So, from any stage of life, or from the time of understanding its urgency, one can begin regulating the senses in Krsna consciousness, devotional service of the Lord, and turn the lust into love of Godhead, the highest perfection stage of human life.

So that program of Bhagavat Dharma, to kill the lust, wherever it is. Unless the goal of life, which is love of godhead is clear and fixed, these topics are very difficult to understand. Once the goal is prema, prema is the goal, love of godhead is goal of life and had achieved this in this life time. Prabhupada gave us the target, this life time, then businessmen doesn’t think of making profits next life. He wants to do business now, profits now and close the deal or whatever. So Srila Prabhupada would speak like that in this lifetime, end of this lifetime. So goal is love, prema. So then the bhagavatam, the Vedic life style they can come very heavily down upon this lust business, lusty affairs. Because this is enemy, this is enemy, not just open arms policy, there is no talk like this. I don’t know, as much as I know little the Christianity, or their scriptures or Quran or they talk little bit but, not as much as the Bhagavat talks of crush it, kill it.

Unless that is done, there is no love of godhead, they are so you may be following some compromise or substandard, principle of religion or but then the corresponding outcome also is not going to be love of Godhead. You go somewhere higher by following some of those principles. So Bhagavatam has identified, Bhagavat Gita has identified, the enemy and where does it reside and here Lord in the third chapter is going step by step. Indriyani niyamaydo in the beginning, where to begin, how to conquer this enemy, so that some procedure is also stated, niyamayado indriyani , the sense, control, indiriyani mano buddhir asyadhisthanam ucyate (BG 3.40) then Krsna say this lust, who is enemy, you would like to know, where is my enemy, who is he and where is he before I attack or battle, fight, kill him. I have to know who is my enemy, where is he sitting. Lord says, indiriyani- in all the senses, mano – in mind, buddhir – in the intelligence.

So as he comes from outside from sense objects, one lets them come it and our mind going out and contemplating, bringing even those objects in and contemplating. So the gates are not guarded, gates are open. Enemy is coming in through the senses and now it has some in the mind and contemplation as if is welcomed not even identified, his enemy. We may have not prepared for battle, at least know this one is enemy, this one is enemy that realization, that understanding, this is my enemy, it is coming through the senses, through your intelligence unto the mind and if it is not
checked at the sense level and mind’s level then it keeps walking all over. Walking through and goes to the intelligence and once the enemy has captured the intelligence then what hope is there. He has captured, so atleast with the intelligence one is able to think this is my enemy, I know this is my enemy, he has come and I have to get rid of it.

So those whose are in maya, those who are in illusion, don’t know that they are in illusion but those who are Krsna Consciousness or trying to become Krsna conscious, they atleast know this is Krsna and this is maya, this is Krsna and this is prema and this is kama. This is love and this is lust, they may not have full development of love as of yet but at least they know oh this is love, this is lust the power of discrimination within intelligence and dadami buddhi yogam tam (BG 10.10) and Srila Prabhupada is talking about that in the purport that we read we may take to Krsna consciousness even at later date but we are serious, not here, then Lord gives intelligence in the tenth chapter, he says,

tesam satata yuktanam bhajatam priti purvakam
dadami buddhi yogam tam yena mam upayanti te

(BG 10.10)

So I have intelligence, otherwise the earlier intelligence was contaminated by lust, worldly intelligence; Lord says I give the intelligence. I become your intelligence agency, then how is that intelligence used. Yena mam upyanti te, yanti means to go upyanti means closer, to come closer
and closer to Me, that intelligence is used, with that intelligence one could discriminate, this is this, this is Krsna, this is maya, this is love, this is lust, my enemy or there he has entered sitting in my senses, in my mind, intelligence also captured to some extent. If it is fully captured then you can’t think, that some part of the brain is still free from illusion then you can see that the rest is, enemy has captured.

So goal is love of God, prema, so with that aim in mind, then everything else is strategy included what is stated here, the lose women or independent women behind them, there are independent men also, there is team behind women’s liberation, they say more men behind women’s liberation then women herself, you trace it back and as a team, they are illusioned, this sammohah, it is mentioned sammohahya to bewildered them. We also kind of left that incomplete there that Lord is Purusha and the soul is prakriti but then the soul is covered by two kind of clothing, two kinds of clothes.

vasam sa jarnani

Vasam is clothes, so two sets of cloth, one looks like a male, male cloth, male uniform and female uniform. So when that understanding of being soul is not there then they want kingdom of God. Srila Prabhupada would say, oh people want kingdom of God, but without God. What do I need god for, I am god- Ishvaro aham so that’s not only men’s thing, Ishvaro aham, women also think ishwaro aham and when woman is wanting enjoyment. She is not a woman anymore, she is a man. As Srila Prabhupada said, she becomes purusha, she takes the role of purusha and they both wanting to be purush, competition with the Lord. Living entities envious of the Lord and they want to enjoy independently, independent women wanting independently to enjoy the world, independent of what? Independent of Lord.

Otherwise where is this independence, independent women not just independent of man, ultimately independent of Lord, but when both are enjoying spirit, they are both take the role of purusah. They both want to enjoy and there is a divine couple Radha and Krsna, and then there are so many other pairs, as you and me, they sit together, we are god, enjoyer. This whole independent thing, men independent, women independent, when men is depending on god, father is depending on god, husband is depending on god, son is depending on god, God conscious.

And then women depends on father when she is a child, depends on husband when she is married, depends on son when husband retires or renounce the both depending on the Lord. The daughter- father, wife -husband, son -mother depending upon the Lord or wanting to achieve the Lord, get closer to the Lord. So this topics could only be understood in the context of Krsna Consciousness specially keeping in mind the goal of life.

If that is not understood, doesn’t even have a clue of what the goal of life is, who we are? and the Lord, love of god, if that is not there then immediately they will fight back with the talk that we are giving here or what Mohini murti has to say, what Kapil dev has to say, what Krsna or Srila Prabhupada and Sukdev Goswami has to say. Are you crazy and then who is crazy, this party says that they are crazy and other party says other one is crazy. So who is the judge, who is? So there are so many difficulties because of this independence of men or women. All sorts of difficulties. nutnam nutnam vicinvatam always looking for newer and newer partners, men is looking, women is also looking and this divorce cases this was such a rare thing in India specially, but now I happen to read that Delhi court they get some kind of 700 cases per week or per month also.

700 families are gone to the court, maybe I am not sure much bigger number here in the west, but the lawyers they are say, these cases were rare, 20 years , 30 years 40-50 years back. Very occasionally, someone would go all the way to the court, to battle out but this is not a good sign. Union, I mean married and separation, every time is breaking heart, some breaking bonds in not a, what one goes through but they are forced, another reason what happen to those children, who are in “varnasankara” this is one very major concern of Arjuna. The husband dies in the battle and women will go after another men and the children and this is it.

See what is happening, what is going on, as the result, so much of HIV, HIV they all, what is that other name of it? AIDS. I was in South Africa and now the life span, average life span is not 33 years in South Africa or may be in some parts 33 years. I asked what happened, they said lots of youth dying in their 20s and 30s. So this to throw in few difficulties, universally or globally for human races facing with, which has connection with this independence of men or women or no control over the senses, strinam svairininam. As it was happening to those cows, they drifted away from Lord, they drifted away from Lord, they didn’t care could have stayed around Krsna and they ended up in forest fire.

Oh! We all also end up in forest fire and this material existence is one fire, that’s why first thing we say samsara davanala lidha loka, very first thing that comes out of Hare Krsna devotees mouth is samsara davanala this world is on fire and more fires, how much fighting fires not possible, they will not be able to extinguish fire, only increase in fire, increase the fire only when ghanaghanatvan when the cloud , merciful cloud comes, rains showers, yesterday. By the mercy clouds and mercy drops and as they come down upon. So they are available, Krsna consciousness is being showered, all over, it’s made available with temples and Gita’s everywhere.

Book distribution , Govinda’s restaurants, these are mercy clouds, these are mercy, what other forms you are distributing mercy here, preaching to the congregation, congregation developments, youth preaching as many as audience as possible, we tried to Krishna consciousness, so that people are shattered people have no shelter.

dharmo rakshit raksat

If you want to protect someone, you should protect his Dharma, you protect his religion pull his under the umbrella of religion, dharma. Dharma, the dharma, not some ABC dharma preliminary dharma, that is also available on the planet. Then that person is protected. So the principle mentioned here, they are meant for protection and ultimately and then pulling everyone under the shelter of Krsna. By following these principles, one is protected, shattered and cultivation of Krishna consciousness of godhead and get out of here that’s the idea, get out of here.

Atleast get out of this lower consciousness, you may want to come back and preach, Dhruva Maharaja, Prahlad Maharaja, they don’t care about going back to godhead, but at least, at least come to the level of whether Krsna brings us back or He keeps us on in this world for His mission.
Please at least come to that level.

When Srila Prabhupada his servants in Prayagraj Allahabad has stolen some money and gone away and telegram was sent to Jhansi. Prabhupada was in Jhansi at that time and telegram message landed in Prabhakar Mishra, the first and only disciple that time in his hand and he had already read
the message and he rushed to Prabhupada and he wanted to read this message to Srila Prabhupada , the message said that your servants or workers have conflicted some money and fled, nowhere to be found up to that effect. So when after Prabhakar Mishra read that message to Srila Prabhupada
and looked at Prabhupada thinking that Prabhupada is going to be in tears or he is going to be very unhappy but that wasn’t the case.

Prabhupada was smiling, Prabhupada was happy face and that’s when Prabhupada quoted this verse that you are talking. Prabhupada said to Dr. Prabhakar Mishra

yesha anugranami, hari shednam shane shane

When Lord is kind to you, harishedanam, he steals, he takes away your danam shane shane, means gradually could be drastically, gradually, this verse says shane, gradually takes away your wealth. When Lords wants to benedict you, special benediction. So Srila Prabhupada took up it in that spirit,
he was reminded of that statement from Bhagavatam and he gave the purport also. So he fully agreed with, I mean when things are taken away , there is a saying in Marathi, I would say, I am from Maharashtra, there is a something similar, sounding similar, it says, asatil shite tal jamtil bhute
Bhute means ghost, shite means grains, if you have something, something to offer to feed ghosts, folks and others, they will be always dancing around you, flattering you, pleasing you, do this, do that. So they always come bigger and bigger number and big parties, if you have something, then they will come to get it, they will dance around you, but when you are bankrupt then they will say bye! See you later and what is expected when this happens is you would turn to the Lord. If you have expected him as a only shelter and another loss, yet another loss, yet another lost yet another calamity and Kunti says, my dear Lord , send me calmaties.

vipadah santu toh sasvat
tatra tarra jagad guru ( SB 1.8.25)

Calamities of this kind, of that kind of bankruptcy, she doesn’t specify but she said send calamities, send difficulties, all this in my direction and

bhavato darsanam yat syad ( SB 1.8.25)

And for sure, whenever there is calamity, I will turn to you, I will face you and as a result apnur bhava darsanam I don’t have, calamity after calamity, each time I will run to you, I will have your darsana, as a result, apnur bhava darshana I don’t have to take darsana of this world again, so she was pretty smart lady , this Kunti. No one has prayed like she did.

So things we are attached to, are taken away, one by one or all of sudden all of them, suppose if you are not on Kunti’s level, she takes it in a right spirit, if we are half way through then some thanking the Lord and some cursing the Lord. I didn’t know you are that kind of Lord, you are taking away these things. Well if that person cannot understand on, his or her own then the elders wise men, that’s why we need grandmothers or elders, wise men around us. Our society need, our community guides to help out counselling, explaining, trying to depend upon Lord ultimately. I mean, you know and then one makes play in we came empty handed and how do we go, empty handed and Srila Prabhupada once, maybe we had said several times that you prove it, this is your property, you prove it. How when you die, if you take this property with you, will accept that this was, this is your property. But no one does that, no one is able to manage hence sarvalok meheshwarama

I am the proprietor of everything that principle is established also going back, taking away taking away that ghost and you know dancing around, when they leave you in peace that is suppose to be conducive for your spiritual life. You are bothered by so many of them and so much wealth could be a big burden, extraction, keeping track of account giving. So one less item to worry about and that much time you could devote to Lord.

One of the 24 guru’s, the list of 24 gurus, one of the 24 gurus is you by yourself. So it is one of guru’s and there is example that ya, this whole context was, when the lady was doing unhusking of rice paddy, use the rod, long rod, held in the middle and there is a pile of rice paddy or wheat with the husk and with this they unhusk the manual and when this guru thing, 24 guru explained that is one guru this lady had the bangles and every time she did, it was making sounds and she was then may be decreasing number of bangles, finally even when there were two , there was still some sound, they were colliding with each other and finally it was one, no sound, so that is considered. One of the guru’s to be in situation like that, just by yourself you and your Lord, you are your, Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, you and your shravanam, kirtanam, you and remembering the Lord. So that
is only factors you could any given act, what is the cause gahana karmano gatih (BG 4.17) Lord says the topic of karma cause an effect and result, what are the causes , difficult to trace out. So that person may try to understand and blame this one, blame that one blame that one. So no action is complete unless the super soul, the five factors, Supersoul in involved. So there could be some explanation, discussion, counselling like that. Rule is Krsna, he is the wealth, He is the wealth. What if the , you lose the soul and what gained the world or what says the bible, you lose the soul gained the world, what gain is that.

So this giving, taking, gaining and lose more or less does happen with everybody without exception over, person has to just maintain his mental core, equilibrium and that link and my relationship with the Lord and that doesn’t change, doesn’t matter what happens to the world. We are living entities part and parcel of Krsna. Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and we achieve him through our devotion, practice that is a truth. So doesn’t matter you become empty pocket, ya Lord has given you so much and you are also bewildered if he gives too much and it is also too much for you to handle, if he takes away, it is too much for you to handle. So these are again the dual nature of this world. So the advice in the second chapter is thata maan apmaanyo labh hani, yet listed quite a few items that the person in sthita dhir munir ucyate (2.56) munir who is sthita dhir he has attained the equilibrium state of mind and he is in samadhi state, he is above this of loss and gain and respect and then insult.

So Lord with pride say my devotee he is santusta whatever comes in his way or even something goes away.

yadrccha-labha-santusto
dvandvatito vimatsarah

He is not envious and dvandvatito means beyond or transcendental to the dual nature of this world. Enemy and friend, local and foreigner, men and women, rich and poor, black and white and more into it. The world is made of these two things.

So I stop here.

Book Distribution- Very dear to the heart of Srila Prabhupada

Book Distribution- Very dear to the heart of Srila Prabhupada

01-12-2016

Vrindavan [22:49]

You can please Srila Prabhupada by distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books. Book distribution service was very dear to his heart. The service was given to Srila Prabhupada by Bhakti Siddhana Saraswati Thakur. Right here on the banks of Radhakunda, when Srila Prabhupada had come from Allahabad to join his guru Maharaja, Prabhupada was asked, ‘If you ever get money, what you should do? Print books!” And in the same Vrindavan, later on of course, Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur said, ‘You preach in the western world, in English language. In same Vrindavan, at Radha Damodar, life time in preparation, he was preparing, preparing, preparing to go to the west. And how he would go to the west? He would go with the books, books in English language. So he was translating the books, the first canto.

So Prabhupada was translating, and that time he had no help. Prabhupada was translating, typing, editing, proof reading, travelling to Delhi in the third class train. Now that train does not even exit these days, third class. It was so low class, it has been abandoned. Prabhupada used to travel on that kind of class and getting his books printed there. He had a place called Chippiwada, near Red fort. Prabhupada was promoting that this is my office.

That was his office, the Chippiwada, little place, Radha Krishna temple, where he was allowed to use that facility. That was his office and one place in Vrindavan, that was not Radha Damodar temple, the other one, Bamsi Gopal temple, that was his home or something. And then Prabhupada was getting his books printed. Sometimes he would carry the papers on his head from where he would buy, purchase paper, to the printer, just to save riksa money and getting the books printed. Sometimes he would be coming to the printing press without eating; again he had no money or he would save money so that he could invest that money in book printing.

After the books were printed, the printer would not give all the books. ‘Oh take hundred books. You sell these and when you have money, you pay and then we will give you more books.’ Like that whole thing started. Like that Prabhupada took so much trouble to translate and print, publish his books; that was the instruction of his spiritual master.

And then he went overseas with those books. And on the Jaladuta boat he was selling books. He ended up selling to captain Pandya. He sold books worth 20 dollars. So Prabhupada had in fact 40 Rs when he arrived in New York and he also had 20 dollars from the sale of books and then book distribution continued in New York. Of course Prabhupada was personally selling books in the book stores on ‘sell or return’ basis. He would drive on a bus and check how many books have been sold, not sold and so transactions were going on. And then gradually, gradually the book distribution was picked up by his followers.

Initially there were some Bhagavatam, but not so many copies, ‘Back to Godhead’ were printed in million copies. I think the target was, the times magazine prints, hundreds and thousands of copies, ‘Back to Godhead should also become popular like that.’ And he used to call back to Godhead as the backbone of ISKCON, backbone, BTG. And then smaller books and bigger books and then the books were being distributed all over the planet and I think in 76, within one year 7 million books were distributed by his followers from around the world.

Like that Prabhupada was pushing book distribution, ‘distribute books, distribute books, distribute books,’ that was his instruction, emphasis. Of course he also wanted his books to be read, ‘read my books, read my books, read my books’, he did not say in those words, but he did complained, ‘I have one complaint about you my disciples.

Complaint is, what is the complaint? You don’t read my books or not read enough. So Prabhupada wanted, his books were meant for reading and first one to read those books, Prabhupada was expecting that his followers, his disciples, his grand-disciples, his family members would read those books and also then distribute his books. So that book distribution which is also considered our, Gaudiya Vaishnavas’ consider that as family business. The business that we do and that is printing and selling and distributing books.

Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur had his printing press right in the temple, I don’t know where exactly, but the Deity could see the printing press, while the rolling, printing, the Deities were able to see the printing press and he called that as ‘Brihad mridanga’. Brihad, the sound of this mridanga the sound that is packed in these books would reach far and wide. That is Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur. So Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati, he was in the book distribution, printing books, distribute books. So Srila Prabhupada took that very seriously and that is later on number one service, business, seva, worship that is distribution of Srila Prabhupada’s books.

Prabhupada used to say, he will not die, he will stay alive in his books forever. And he would feel very very enthusiastic with those who were doing correspondence secretarial job, during last days. Big pile of mail coming through, there was no email those days everything the postman would deliver the big bundle. And Prabhupada would prefer to hear, ‘open that, oh this sankirtana report in here, something from Rameshwar, something from Gopal Krishna Gosvami or this is from this temple, some book score, Oh open that.’ So giving priority to such mails and Prabhupada used to hear those book scores.

I remember in 77 November, just one week before Prabhupada’s departure, we were also distributing books. Whole world was distributing books, each one of us were into book distribution, yes Maharaja, remember? Absolutely! Everyday of the year, not only the marathon, every devotee, every Tom, Dick and? Harry would be distributing books. Only pujaris would stay behind during the marathon. They would also rotate.

They would also want to go and distribute books. So I had come, I had a travelling party, that would distributed books. The name of our travelling party was Narada Muni Sankirtana Party. And we would be travelling all over like Narada Muni. So we had come one week before to see Srila Prabhupada and as we were allowed in his quarter. Prabhupada was of course in bed. And guess what? We gave report, I gave report of my travelling party to Srila Prabhupada and he was so anxious to hear, so happy to hear, ‘Oh which book is selling the most?’ There was hardly, barely he was able to speak, but he was enquiring, enthusing me to go on. Say more about the book distribution; say more about the book distribution. And I remember I had said one thing to Srila Prabhupada, that time I had returned from Badrikasram, distributing books. We had gone all the way to Badrikasram and then returned to see how Srila Prabhupada is doing health wise. So we reported to Prabhupada. ‘Srila Prabhupada,’ I said, ‘While we were at Badrikasram we had gone to see the Vyasagupha, the cave of Vyasadeva. So there we showed your Bhagavad Gita As It Is to Srila Vyasadeva.

Little bit humorous way of saying this, because I thought you know, Srila Vyasadeva resides in the cave. We did not see him but for sure he is seeing us and for sure the books, Prabhupada’s books we were carrying, he must have seen, Srila Vyasadeva must have seen. So we said,we showed your books to Srila Vyasadeva. And SrilaPrabhupada liked to hear that Bhagavad Gita was shown to Srila Vyasadeva.

So this book distribution was very, very dear to Srila Prabhupada’s heart and the books are, books are what? The basis! Books are the basis and preaching is the essence, purity is the force, utility is the principle. So you could utilize all the principle strategies to distribute books. And this year is Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON’s golden jubilee celebration year. And this is the last month, last chance. We had been glorifying ISKCON and glorifying ISKCON is glorifying Srila Prabhupada. They are not separable. ‘ISKCON is my body,’ sometimes he used to say, ‘ISKCON is my body.’ So this is last month. So the best thing we could do during last month is to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books.

I think it is GBC, may be book distribution ministry also was behind or may be together collaboration, there is a proposal for all of us, all the members of ISKCON, all the followers of ISKCON, including members of congregation and others, even visitors of ISKCON and those who are being benefited by ISKCON, connected to ISKCON, each of those devotees, members, associates, followers, congregation, they have to distribute 50 books this year, minimum 50 books as this is the 50 th anniversary of Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON. Haribol! Are you ready? Sleeping?

‘Double it’, Prabhupada used to say, ‘double it, triple, quadruples’. This is the minimum, like chanting 16 rounds is minimum and when in one conversation, I asked Srila Prabhupada, ‘just 16 rounds Prabhupada?’ ‘You could chant 16 thousand, who could stop you? You could chant 16,000. But
minimum is 16 rounds, you could chant 16000.’ So devotees distribute thousands of books, each devotee, there are such devotees amongst us, amongst the members of our temple devotees. So there are so many ways and means to distribute books. So get ready and I am sure this temple is doing
special Istagosties to make a strategy to distribute books. And this morning I heard yesterday’s scores.

They were just normal, nothing big, nothing special. I hope from tomorrow onwards the scores have to be doubled and tripled and quadrupled. So devotees don’t have to wait for the people to come here, you could go to the people. Make some plans like that. Go to Mathura, go to towns nearby, or go here, go there, go everywhere. By hook or crook, yena kena prakarena, so like that you distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books during marathon.
And this is also the reason why we distribute books, more books or do marathon during December and emphasize distributing Bhagavad Gita, as December is the month that Krishna spoke Bhagavad Gita; next Ekadasi, Moksada ekadasi, on the 10 th of this month, the battle of Kuruksetra would begin. (Gm
made sound of conch) Conchshells! And that day Krishna spoke Bhagavad Gita. What time of the day?

Morning, good, very good! Krishna spoke Bhagavad Gita during morning hours, because battles used to begin in the morning and would go until sunset and then they would take a break and they would get together and even they would meet enemies and friends and next morning enemies again, battling,
fighting. Yeah, so during early morning hours, Krishna spoke,

dharmak setre kuruk setre samaveta yuyutsavah
mamakah pandavaschaiva kim akurvat sanjaya [BG 1.1]

gita su-gita kartavya kim anyaih sastra-vistaraih

What need is there for another sastra when Bhagavad Gita exists, Bhagavad Gita is there, this is said in Gita mahatmya, greatness of Bhagavad Gita.

ya svayam padmanabhasya mukha-padmad vinihsrita

Bhagavad Gita, emanated from the lotus mouth of Sri Krishna, that Bhagavad Gita. Something that comes out of the mouth of Krishna is also Krishna. So Bhagavad Gita is non different from Krishna. So when we distribute Bhagavad Gita, we are distributing, take Krishna, this is Krishna in the form of speech, sound, what is spoke, this is Krishna.

So krishna se tomar Krishna dite par tomar sakati ache

So that Krishna is with you in the form of Bhagavad Gita and you could give that Krishna to others. Be kind and share Krishna to make the whole world Krishna conscious. And talking of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, He also gave instructions,

jare dakho tare kaho Krishna upadesa

What is this Krishna upadesa? This refers to Bhagavad Gita. Jare dekho tare kaho Krishna upadesa, upadesa, instructions of Krishna.

Srimad Bhagavad Gita ki Jai!
Gita Jayanti mahotsav ki Jai!
Srila Prabhupada transcendental book distribution ki Jai!

ISKCON Vrindavan

So we thank you, all of you for joining us this morning for the study of Bhagavatam – Nityam bhagavata-sevaya. In the Middle East I was there, one programme called Nityam bhagavata-sevaya and devotees assemble, recite Bhagavatam every day. Nityam bhagavata-sevaya. So this morning, seventh Canto chapter fifth, text number twelfth, please repeat.

sa yadanuvratah pumsam
pasu-buddhir vibhidyate
anya esa tathanyo ham
iti bheda-gatasati [SB 7.5.12]

sah—that Supreme Personality of Godhead; yada—when;
anuvratah—favorable or pleased; pumsam—of the conditioned
souls; pasu-buddhih—the animalistic conception of life
vibhidyate—is destroyed; anyah—another; esah—this; tatha—as
well as; anyah—another; aham—I; iti—thus; bheda—distinction;
gata—having; asati—which is disastrous.

When the Supreme Personality of Godhead is pleased with the living entity because of his devotional service, one becomes a pa??ita and
does not make distinctions between enemies, friends and himself. Intelligently, he then thinks, "Every one of us is an eternal servant of
God, and therefore we are not different from one another. This is how he thinks"

Purport

When Prahlada Maharaja's teachers and demoniac father asked him how his intelligence had been polluted, Prahlada Maharaja said, "As far as I am concerned, my intelligence has not been polluted. Rather, by the grace of my spiritual master and by the grace of my Lord, Krsna, I have now learned that no one is my enemy and no one is my friend.

We should also be thinking like this and talking like this. After having received the blessings of our spiritual masters and the blessings of
Lord Sri Krishna Balaram ki jai!

‘This mistaken idea has now been corrected and therefore unlike ordinary human beings, I no longer think that I am God and that
others are my friends and enemies.’

Isvaro aham -I am Isvara. Aham bhogi aham this aham that. A long list, the demoniac nature.

‘This mistaken idea has now been corrected and therefore unlike ordinary human beings I no longer think that I am God and that others are my friends and enemies.’ You want to be God? No? Or do you want to serve God? A question asked to a person who was showing some tendency or some inclination towards becoming God. This was in America in early days.

One Bhakta was around Prabhupada – Bhakta Tyton or Teeton. So Prabhupada – ‘You want to serve God or you want to be God?’ So this person ‘I want to be God’ {Laughter}. Because he wanted to be God he was looking for someone who could make him God. So when he met Prabhupada and Prabhupada asked ‘you want to be God?’ This person thought ‘finally I have met someone who could make me God. If he is making this offer I am sure he can make me God
otherwise why would he enquire?’ Then Prabhupada made further enquiries and he said ‘do you want to be God?’ ‘Yes yes.’ ‘That means now you are not God. You want to be God? That meant you are not God now.’ Then Prabhupada said ‘one who is not God cannot be God.’ God did not become God, God is always God. And one who is not God could never be God.’ Finished, all his aspirations were destroyed and then he decided to be servant of God. Then he became very good servant of God –Giriraj Swami Maharaj. { Haribol}.

My mistaken idea has now been corrected. Now I am rightly thinking that everyone is eternal servant of God and that our duty is to serve the supreme master for then we shall stand on the platform of oneness as servants. Oneness as servant servants – all servants, everybody is servant so that is the oneness how we are all one. In a different sense, not mayavada sense.

‘Demons think of everyone as a friend or enemy, but Vaisnavas say that since everyone is a servant of the Lord, everyone is on the same platform. Krishna Balaram ki Jai. Therefore a Vaisnava treats other living entities neither as friends nor as enemies, but instead tries to spread Krsna consciousness, teaching everyone that we are all one as servants of the Supreme Lord but are uselessly wasting our valuable lives by creating nations, communities and other groups of friends and enemies. In this list, very easily could be added as different religions.

And then one religion becomes an enemy of another religion and then they have battles. And then there are Shia Muslims and I am Sunni Muslims and I will get you, kill you. We’ve all become enemies like that.

We just had a nice kirtana, nagar sankirtana on Young Street in Toronto and then we were returning to the temple so we took our seats in the car, in the vehicle and then one person he approached me. I was in the front seat and he asked me ‘where are you going?’ I said to the temple, Hare Krishna. He said ‘no no, you are not going to the temple. And I said ‘please tell me where I am going’ and he said ‘you are going to hell.’ We just had nice kirtana and this person was ready to send me to hell. Then he pulled a Bible and was reading ‘One who does not accept Jesus in the heart, they will end up in hell.’

So this is the friend and enemy. Even religionists could think and do things in these terms. So they are not serving God and are not favoured by God as Prahlad Maharaja mentioned he was favoured by God. ‘You are not serving God, you are serving death!’ Even our Trump, the President of America he was in America and he said ‘These terrorists they are not serving God, they are serving death.

They are worshipping death, killing everybody.’ Everyone should come to the platform of Krsna consciousness and thus feel oneness as a servant of the Lord. In India in general there is some broad thinking, friendly thinking. India is normally friendly country. There was a war between China and India a long time ago, in early 60’s 1960’s so India was spreading the awareness s of friendship, giving that message ‘Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai.’
Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai. I was just a little boy at that time, and small village but we were also going around in the Gullies, ‘Hindi Chini Bhai
Bhai, Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai.’ I had no idea what we were talking about. Hindi – Hindi is a language and Chini is a sugar {laughter}.

They’re supposed to be Bhai Bhai – this is how I was thinking. Not even understanding what is this Hindi and what is this Chini. So later on I realised Hindi means people of Hindustan and Chini means the people of China- Chinese and they are supposed to be brothers. I understood the meaning when I grew up and understood the Hindi language also, but then only when I met Srila Prabhupada and studied the Bhagavad Gita as his feet, then this mistaken idea or I had no idea that bhai bhai that there are two persons who are bhai bhai, brothers.

What does that mean? It must mean common father otherwise what kind of bhai bhai- brothers are they? Aham bija pradah pita – I am the seed giving father of all the living entities, Krishna says. That’s it, so it was all clear. Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai, and then we could then expand – why Hindi Chini? All Stans – Khalistan, not only Pakistan but this Stan that Stan. All Stanas, people all over the world are brothers.

The brotherhood, the brotherhood that they talk about – universal brotherhood, so how is that possible? So we realise that we all have common father and that is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Some call him Jehovah, some call him Allah – Allah the Great, some call him Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Hari Hari. Although there are 8,400,000 species of life, a Vaisnava feels this oneness. In Italy there was a Saint – Saint Francis? He used to address Sister Bird and Brother tree and he was known for that. When he went around he would say Brother went around Brother Bird or Sister Tree he used to talk like this. So brotherhood not limited to human species but there are 8,400,000 varieties.

Aam Admi Party they say. Our Party is Aam Admi – for all the human beings our party. But our party is Aam Atma Party, for all of atmas. Not making any distinction, protection for all atma’s protection. So Prabhupada was not thinking of only human beings or only Gentlemen –Gentlemen only! No, Ladies also. Otherwise there’s a bheda in there, buddhi bheda.

Intelligence becomes prostitute and runs away giving up the devotional master Sri Krishna and goes here there and makes distinction ours and there’s. Men, woman makes distinctions human beings and animals the cows. Prabhupada cared for cow protection Go Mata Ki Jai! Also trees – tree should not be unnecessarily cut, Prabhupada writes in one of the purport.

So much deforestation also, to serve mother earth trees are essential and trees are even essential for our survival. They serve us we serve them, Hari Hari. So Prabhupada writes in purport that the government should not allow the cutting of the trees in the forest unless those trees or paper made from those trees are going to be used for BBT publications. Then the Government should allow the cutting of the trees, not otherwise.

Prabhupada was seeing the animals, the cows, the trees and not only big nations; he used to say big nations. He went to the tiniest country In the world, Mauritius. Just a little spot, a little dot. He went to America and to Mauritius also – he did not make that bheda, that distinction and favouring one, friendly to some big nation and inimical towards others. And then he said ‘this is the United Nations of the spiritual world!’

Devotees on the dais, he used to introduce devotees from China, maybe not China in those days. From America, from Africa, from here and there – and this is United Nations, otherwise why call it UNO? It is not United nations it is disunited. And he used to say, every time he drove by that UN building in New York. He used to say ‘yet another additional flag. Yet another additional – after few months another…another.

What kind of United – This is disunited, they are breaking into pieces, this is disunited.’ So unity is possible in Krishna consciousness only. The Isopanisad advise why lament, why be in illusion? Ekatvam anupasyatah. Oneness, yes Prabhupada also has said ‘one becomes Pandit. When the Supreme Personality Godhead becomes pleased with a living entity because of his devotional service, one becomes a Pandit. Right there in translation Prabhupada has put in this thought. Pandit – he becomes Pandit, and does not make distinction between enemies and friends. Pandit – Panditah what? Sama darsinah.

panditah sama-darsinah [BG 5.18]

nanusocanti panditah is also there, no lamentation. panditah sama-darsinah panditah sama darsinah. He is looking at what? He sees with equal
vision a learned and gentle brahmana, a cow, an elephant like that. The longer list and at the end says- panditah sama darsinah sama drishte is possible for pandit, for one who has also vision like this, he is pandit. He is learned. ya pashyati sah panditah. Who was it? Chanakya.

matravat para daresu – all the Daras, all the women are matravat, the property, the sampati of others. It is theirs, I will not touch – it is
their’s. And in this context what we are reading, what Prahlada Maharaja is thinking atmavat sarva bhuteshu- He is thinking all the bhutas, all the living entities are what? Atmavat, nicely said.

Atmavat- just like myself, others are just like myself as if they are me, myself. So how could I hurt others? Hurting others is like hurting me.
If I beat myself, hitting others, beating others and killing others is like killing myself.

atmavat sarva bhuteshu – They are like me or they are like me or they are Krishna’s. They belong to my Krishna, or they belong to my father supreme father. We are brothers, sisters. So this is Krishna consciousness. There is a relationship of master and servant, both master and servant are one because of their spiritual identity. This is also ekatvam. Spiritual Master is also servant of the Lord.

kintu prabhorya priya evatasya vande guroh sri-cara?aravindam

One line says saksad-dharitvena that’s fine. That’s fine welcome. At the same time the saksadhari is kintu prabhor yah priya eva tasya. He is very dear, he is a very dear servant a very dear devotee of Supreme Personality of Godhead. For that reason also vande guroh sri-caranaravindam. And Prabhupada is talking ‘ekatvam. The spiritual master, my master is also servant and servant is also servant, or servant may also take the position of spiritual master. Or superior, father is superior – like that. Ultimately everyone is a servant of Lord so Ekatvam, oneness. Although there is- this is Ekatvam. Thus the conception of ekatvam for the Vaisnavais different from that of the mayavadi. So as you can imagine, you can think now or later what Prabhupada is pointing at.

na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate
na tat-samas cabhyadhikas ca drsyate
parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate
sva-bhaviki jnana-bala-kriya ca (Svetasvatara Upanisad 6-8)

The Lord has mayavadis. The trouble with mayavadi’s is their misconception in that they don’t accept this Shakti of the Lord. Shakti and Shaktiman there are two. Energy and the energetic, they think only the energy exists, this exists. And the living entities are aham brahmasmi. So temporarily they have come under the illusion, Brahma has come under the illusion – this is their Brahma.

This is what this Brahma is, they think that this living entity who is Brahma has now come under illusion and as soon as you come out of this illusion, immediately you’re back with unachieved they call it. The living entity now separated under illusion is amsa and as soon as he realises brahma satya jagat mithya – This Jagad is mithya, Brahma is satya. Then he is back with Brahman – aham brahmasmi. But what does the Lord say in the Bhagavad Gita about this living entity?

mamaivamso jiva-loke jiva-bhutah sanatanah [BG 15.7]

Lord is amsi and the living entity his amsa, part and parcel of Supreme personality of Godhead, for how long? Sanatanah– forever-parts and parcels forever so that’s a good news! We are parts and parcels of the Lord – not Lord, but parts and parcels. Tiny, tiny Lords, separated. This energy of the Lord, and then again although we’re all living entitles, although we’re all servants – oneness is there. At the same time, we are not one. Each energy is meant to serve the energetic differently; each one is eternally living as energy, entity serving the Lord. Hari Hari. We are different,
simultaneously one and different.

One with the Lord and different from the Lord, but those who are different from the Lord – the living entities, each one is also different from each other. They are not all, they are all living entities as one –no! Each one is different, each one is different. There’s a beauty of the creator. Amazing each one looks different, talks different, thinks differently -all spiritual and eternal and different.

So we are all one and not one and we are different from each other and not also. This is the correct understanding. When a family member is killed by an enemy, all the members of the family would naturally be inimical to the murderer, but Hiranyakasipu saw that Prahlada had become friendly with the murderer. Who is the family member here? Hiranyaksh.Hiranyaksh is a family member. ‘My brother, my brother was killed by our enemy, that Vishnu is murderer! Look, this child of mine, my son, my son, my son. What have you learnt?’

Nice dialogue that is going on between Prahlad Maharaja and his father, wonderful dialogue. Which goes on in fact, which goes on and on and on forever between father and son – demon father, demon father, demon father and devotee son. When this kind of dialogue goes on ‘what has happened to you?’ Just see! Our children have been brain washed! This Swamiji, Bhaktivedanta Swami has brain washed our children.’ Sometimes- well I say this, there was car wash centres in America.

Car wash, now it is coming in India also but first time I saw this car wash centre. Then I would think that Hare Krishna centres are brain washing centres, brain washing centres. And so many parents took note of children have been brain washed and then they dragged ISKCON, Prabhupada to the court ‘who has brainwashed our children?’ Why has this happened?’ So we are talking about Buddhi here, Lord giving us intelligence. Lord favours and then gives intelligence to his devotees so he becomes Pandit.

So when I was a little boy I used to accompany my mother to the temple as a little boy and my mother used to get me to fold my hands, ‘okay fold your hands’ and so I did. What next? ‘Pray.’ ‘What prayer?’ ‘Oh God give me intelligence,’ So finally Lord given me intelligence, favouring me. I joined Hare Krishna movement. But Mother is thinking ‘Hey! What kind of intelligence God has given you? I didn’t want you to pray so that you would end up getting Krishna, ending up becoming a Hare Krishna.’ So she was not happy.

So this goes on between parents and children of different parties, who is crazy? Materialists say Hare Krishnas are crazy and Hare Krishnas say ‘they are crazy.’ This goes on. Therefore he asked, "Who has created this kind of intelligence in you? Have you developed this consciousness by yourself? Since you are a small boy, someone must have induced you to think this way." Hiranyakashipu enquired ‘since you are a small boy, someone must have induced you.’ Hiranyakashipu smiles when he hears the first reply. Hiranyakashipu was amused, a little amazed and amused ‘okay, this is a child. He is a little immature, he is thinking like this, talking like this. Then he is asking ‘is it yourself or someone else has worked on you?

jahasa buddhir balanam bhidyate para-buddhibhih [SB 7.5.6]

Para-buddhibhih – by someone else buddhibhih, brainwashing – he is talking like this, childish talk jahasa. Then Hiranyakashipu wanted to know ‘who is it? Who is it? Tell me.’ And then he said ‘Yan Mayaya’ Who’s Maya – because of who’s Maya. These people are ours, they are there and these are outsiders. This kind of distinction, bheda buddhi this is done by who’s Maya? Illusory Maya, mama maya duratyaya. mama maya, who’s maya? mama maya- my maya, duratyaya – very difficult to overcome, and what does- one of the functions of this maya is? She makes you think this dvandva – ours
and theirs and this and that, so many things. Enemy and friends and on and on and on this fight goes on.

He said that Bhagavan he has taught me this. Or Narada Muni on behalf of Bhagavan has taught me this. pasu buddhi vidyate, Lord gives buddhi and to some he gives pasu buddhi. Animal- like buddhi, animal intelligence.

Now as I read this Buddhi – the very last think that Sukadeva Goswami said to King Pariksit – one of the last items in the twelth canto on the seventh day of the recitation of the Srimad Bhagavatam, ‘very soon the snake is on the way and is going to be reaching on time.’ So just prior to that, Sukadev Goswami’s final instruction to King Pariksit, ‘pasu buddhim jahi imam rajan.

So this thought, thinking what? This pasu buddhi, this kind of animalistic thinking kill this, you kill this thought. pasu buddhi, this animal like thought, that I will die. You have nothing to do with the death. bheda-abheda, janma-mrtyu, this bheda. So don’t think in terms of death, abandon this thought that you will die.

na jayate mriyate va kadacin, no death no birth for the soul, there is no birth or death. And like that there is another page to go, time is flying when you have fun, what happens? Time flies. They also say time stands still. Only in the present when there’s a Bhagavatam class everything stops, standstill. We are in present only.

There are some managers, time keepers sitting around looking at the watch and keeping track. And of course there’s a biological clock also, biological clock. Around nine o clock there is an alarm. They have an amusing way of speaking; ringing and we are waiting to hear a very favourite prayer {laughter}. Maha prasade..When will that day come, time come?

om namo bhagavate vasudevaya-to wake up, maha prasade – then one jumps. Hari hari, so maybe I’ll just quickly read and finish. Or tomorrow’s speaker will read the purport?

Prahlada Maharaja wanted to reply that an attitude favourable toward Visnu can develop only when the Lord is favourable. As stated in Bhagavad-gita, K?sna is the friend of everyone.

suhrdam sarva-bhutanam
jnatva mam santim rcchati [BG 5.29]

The Lord is never an enemy to any of the millions of living entities, but is always a friend to everyone. What about devotees? Devotees are also, Lord is suhrdam sarva-bhutanam and devotee is suhrdam sarva-dehinam. sadhava sadhu bhusana. Remember that verse from Srimad Bhagavatam? Lord is
suhrdam sarva-bhutanam and devotee is suhrdam sarva-dehinam.

This is the same, this is also oneness between Lord and the Lord’s devotees, so they’re thinking alike. They are thinking alike. Devotees think like God. Not everything they could think, different things. But they think like God. That is how like father, like son. Children are God’s so they think like father, think like father. And when they think like this, that becomes high thinking.

Simple living and high thinking, high thinking is thinking like God, thinking like Krishna. That is high thinking. So Lord is always friend of
everyone and devotees are also friend of everyone. They also pray,

sarve sukhinah bhavantu Sarve santu niramayah
sarve bhadranni pashyantu makashcid-duhkha-bhag-bhavet

This is also high thinking, God thinks like this and devotees also think like this sarve sukhinah, sarve sukhinah.

ma kashcid-duhkha-bhag-bhavet
sarve bhadrani sarve santu niramayah

Let everyone become free from diseased condition, disease. I was invited for hospital opening and then I chanted this prayer, part of that is let everyone become free from disease.

sarve santu niramayah

The owner of the hospital said ‘Maharaja! You have prayed that let everyone become free from disease. I have just now opened my hospital. How could my business run if everyone. So this is happening. Broad thinking, high thinking. Wishing well and if there’s something you could do for their welfare.

If one thinks that the Lord is an enemy, his intelligence is pasu-buddhi, the intelligence of an animal. He falsely thinks, "I am different from my enemy, and my enemy is different from me. The enemy has done this, and therefore my duty is to kill him." This is seen all over the world, this philosophy, this tendency is all pervading. What you read in the pages of Bhagavatam here. This misconception is described in this verse as bheda-gatasati. The actual fact is that everyone is a servant of the Lord, as confirmed in Caitanya-caritamrta by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
jivera svarupa haya-krsneranitya-dasa

Bhakti Vinod Thakur says,

jiva krishna das ei vishvas karle tara dukha nahi.

’Just by knowing this, thin much ‘ei jiva krishna das.’ This living entity is servant of Krishna. karle tara dukha nahi there is no suffering. So
this is the propagation, how important this propagation of Krishna consciousness so that people could be happy.

As servants of the Lord, we are one, and there can be no questions of enmity or friendship. If one actually understands that every one of us is a servant of the Lord, where is the question of enemy or friend? Any question? No question, if we understand. For those who think in terms – they have not understood, so we have to understand.

Everyone should be friendly for the service of the Lord. Each statement here is like a vedavakya. That’s why we are also stopping every now and then, because there is so much has been said. Like the sutras. Each sentence becomes like a sutra, Vedanta sutra. We have to unpack, unpacking – analyse and then we have to contemplate. Everyone should praise another’s service to the Lord, yes? If we have heard this then what we have to do? What do you think? We have to praise service of others and not be proud of his own service. Hanuman was a little proud one time after building the
bridge, when a little squirrel had come. She was picking up some particle, dust particles and climbing up the big boulders and those rocks, and then shaking her body and dumping all fifty gram of sand.

So Hanuman saw ‘Hey, get out of..’ So she was putting some cement in those rocks but Hanuman thought ‘what is this? We are building big mountains and she’s bringing five grams, fifty grams of sand. Get out.’ Did Hanuman appreciate that? No. Rama was observing ‘come, come here.’ Then when he was called he was looking behind. We always do that, huh? When you are sleeping, and the person who is sleeping and he wakes up and begins looking behind. Just to give impression ‘no, not me no! Maharaja is pointing out someone behind me, not me’ ‘No you Hanuman, you.’ Then Lord gave this lecture. ‘What do you think who you are?’ A trina dapi suni chena  lecture, amanina manadena lecture. So this is a way of Vaishnava thinking, just
see. This is a way of Vaishnava thinking, Vaikuntha thinking, they think in Vaikuntha like this. And if we wish to back back to Vaikuntha, which we call going back to Godhead, unless we are trained and become perfect in thinking the way- not thinking the way. There’s no question of going back to Vaikuntha.

We are not fit for going back to Vaikuntha, we are not fit for going back to home, unless we begin thinking the way Vaikunthavasis, Golokavasis think. There may be rivalries and apparent competition between servants in performing service, but in the Vaikuntha planets the service of
another servant is appreciated, not condemned. This is Vaikuntha competition. There is no question of enmity between servants.

Everyone should be allowed to render service to the Lord to the best of his ability, and everyone should appreciate the service of others. If we could learn one of these things mentioned, that’s good enough for us to go back home, back to Krishna. Since everyone is a servant, everyone is on the same platform and is allowed to serve the Lord according to his ability. As confirmed in Bhagavad-gita15.15. What are 15.15?

Sarvasya caham hrdi sannivisto mattah sm?tir jnanam apohanam ca

The Lord is situated in everyone's heart, giving dictation according to the attitude of the servant. However, the Lord gives different
dictation to the nondevotees and devotees. Two kinds of dictations, devotees one dictation, nondevotees another dictation. Just like this is what mattah smrtir jnanam apohanam. Jnanam for somebody, smritir jnanam for somebody, apohanam for another – the nondevotee. So one who says ‘God
exists, God exists’ that dictation is coming from God and for one who says ‘God doesn’t exist! Show me God!’ That kind of dictation is also
coming from God. That kind of dictation is also coming from God also.

‘Is your father in?’ ‘Let me find out, check.’ And the little boy had gone looking for his father and when his father found out that such and such gentleman ‘I don’t want to see him. Tell him that I am not here.’ So child goes back to the door and he said ‘my father said..’ ‘What did your father say?’ ‘He is not here. My father said he is not here.’

So God does not exist, who said? God says. If you want to hear it like that, if you deserve that kind of sravanam, okay so it’s available. Logic is there and arguments are there and reasoning – all, everything is all there eternally from beginning of creation. Such forgetfulness also existing and source is the Lord so Prabhupada said, dictations, two kinds of dictations. So devotee gets one kind nondevotee get yet another kind.

The nondevotees challenge the authority of the Supreme Lord, and therefore the Lord dictates in such a way that the nondevotees forget the Lord's service, life after life, and are punished by the laws of nature. But when a devotee very sincerely wants to render service to the Lord, the Lord dictates in a different way. As the Lord says in Bhagavad-gita 10.10. What is 10.10?

tesam satata-yuktanam bhajatam priti-purvakam
dadami buddhi-yogam tam yena mam upayanti te

Very important. "To those who are constantly devoted and worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me." Everyone is actually a servant, not an enemy or friend, and everyone is working under different directions from the Lord, who directs each living entity according to his mentality.

End of the purport.
Srila Prabhupada ki…. jai.

Bala lila of Krsna

Bala lila of Krsna

Iskcon Chowpatty Mumbai [28:42]

It’s time to go back, just to stay in the mood of Damodara. Have you got the mood? Do you have Damodara mood, its Damodara month today? Beginning today or yesterday? Actually today is technically first day of Kartik, the first day of Purnima.

Last night we were dancing and certainly Radha Gopinath was dancing but not just with Radha but with millions of Gopis at the rasa dance. That was Rasa dance night. Did you offer sweet rice? No not in the morning mangal arati bhoga, no. You go to the rooftop someplace? So the moon rays would get in there. And the moon rays, whenever the Gopis are tired, fatigued they would relish some of that sweet rice. Did you do that? Yes? Where is the sweet rice? {Laughter}.

In Krishna Balarama temple right after mangal arati, they all rush to so many pots of sweet rice. All the devotees plunder big fight. There’s enough for everybody, Deena Bandhu Prabhu makes announcement ‘sweet rice.’ Special sweet rice, so that was, or not just was but still is last night’s pastime, it did not last for one of our nights but it lasted for entire night of Brahma, an entire night of Brahma. So has it stopped, the Rasa dance has stopped now? It’s still on.

Krishna appears once in one day of Brahma and how long He dances in the Rasa? A whole night of Brahma. So while that Rasa, which comes from Rasa, the mellow of conjugal love. Yet this morning that rasa is on and we are celebrating yet another Rasa here vatsalya Rasa. That Rasa, the mellow, the relationship between Gopis and Krishna, Radha and Krishna and this one is between Yashoda and Krishna, the residents of Vraja and Krishna.

I am not going to do the verse on the board that is what I meant. Let’s stay in the mood, the mood that we have just created a little bit by singing Damodarastak. Let’s condense this mood every day for next thirty days and for all the time to come. Not that thirty days are up so let’s do omething else. Yet there is also the understanding that the most attractive pastimes of the Lord are childhood pastimes.

That is also one understanding.

Also Madhurya Rasa is the topmost Rasa, considered topmost. Krishna is Rasaraj He is the king of all the Rasas. He is the source, Rasa Vaisa. He is the source of all the Rasas, and He is the enjoyer also of all the Rasas. To know that of course there has to be reciprocation between Him and his devotees. So varieties of Rasas varieties of devotees. Varieties are the spice of life. So Krishna spices his life in this pastime, or as this lila of Damodar also has taken place in the month of Kartik on the day of Diwali.

ekada griha dasesu yasodananda gehini

This is how the pastime gets narrated by Sukadeva Goswami in tenth canto of Bhagavatam. It says ‘Ekada’ Once upon a time. So that once upon a time was the day of Diwali, so that is during Kartik. The special Rasa dance is during Kartik so just the day before, night before Kartik, Govardhan Puja that is also during this month of Kartik.

Bahulastami, the appearance day of Radha kunda is also in the month of Kartik. Gopastami Krishna becomes cowherd. He was calf herd boy and then he becomes cowherd boy. He was promoted so this promotion also took place during this month. Likewise it’s full of festivals, this month. Srila Prabhupada also chose to enter the Lord’s pastimes during this month. Did I miss anything? This is also called Urjavrata. What is Urja? Energy and this energy is Radharani.

So this is also Radha Damodar, not only Yashoda Damodar RadhaDamodar pastimes. Srila Prabhupada stayed at Radha Damodar Radha Damodar ki…. Jai! I also remember the first time ever I went to Vrindavan was during Kartik. From Juhu we went and arrived at Mathura station and the first tanga flight I had was from Mathura station to Radha Damodar Temple and as we arrived and took darsana of the first deity at that time, that we had darsana of
in Vrindavan was Radha Damodar. Beautiful and the next right after darsana of deities, we were rushed into Srila Prabhupada’s quarters.

In the early hours of the morning we had arrived, Srila Prabhupada was in there by himself in a very small room. There was not even room for this asan, if you were to place this asan and twenty six inches tall cushion something at the back, Prabhupada sat very humbly and powerfully at the same time.

So we had darsana and devotees from Bombay sat around, some in the front and some on the side. I was sitting right in the front and Srila Prabhupada was talking and getting reports of Juhu Bomabay and he was also looking at us, moving his head like a camera [Showing by action] but whenever his glance fell on me he would stop before he moved again. Whenever he would come again he would stop and so I was wondering was that? But I did not have the outcome {laughter}.

I was trying to understand why I was getting Srila Prabhupada’s attention. So it went on many times and I could not figure it out until he said ‘Stop it!’ What did he say? ‘Stop it.’ And then I realised. In those days, while in some kind of attention I would hear and I used to do this {leg motion up and down, laughter}.

You have seen some people doing this, huh? This was getting his attention, trying to understand but I couldn’t figure it out {laughter}.
Then he said ‘stop it’ and then I stopped, never did that again. Only when I do demonstration.

So that was my first instruction in fact from Srila Prabhupada. Started with nisheda directly ‘Don’t do this, do this, don’t do this.’ So with having stopped this a lot of things need to be stopped this is just one nonsense, one distraction. We had the great fortune of being with Srila Prabhupada during the month of Kartik – this is ’72, 1972 and other devotees also had come, from different parts of the world.

There were maybe forty fifty devotees. The first official Vrindavan festival was being held, and there were forty, fifty devotees we thought ‘so many devotees!’ If we had the opportunity to tell someone ‘so many devotees!’‘How many?’‘Forty devotees!’ Forty devotees were so many. In ’73, beginning of ’73 Srila Prabhupada stayed at Mahadeviai? Kartikeya Mahadevia, you have seen his photographs with Prabhupada. Prabhupada used to stay, he used to stay downtown few times. So I had gone to get my Gayatri mantra from him and so it was just myself and Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada asked me ‘in Juhu, how many visitors come?’ And I told Srila Prabhupada ‘lots of visitors come.’ ‘How many?’ Prabhupada asked. I said ‘Fifty, sixty visitors come.’ And Srila Prabhupada said ‘so many?’

So fifty, sixty was so many. Prabhupada asked ‘so many?’ Now fifty, sixty visitors enter every minute, huh? Entering, exit so many.

So that was Kartik festival was new to us, everything in Vrindavan was new. So devotees – I think it was Gurudas. ‘So what are we supposed to be doing?’

Srila Prabhupada said ‘Nothing much just chant Hare Krishna twenty four hours a day during this Kartik.’ ‘What are we supposed to be doing?’ ‘Chant twenty four hours.’ This month is considered the month that helps in mantra siddhi achieving perfection in chanting the holy names of the Lord, Mantra Siddhi. So a lot of devotees come to Vrindavan and so they do a lot of chanting during this month. They get a lot of blessings of Radharani also during this month.

So Urja vrata, sitting here as if Bombay does not exist. So you’re in another world. It’s a concrete jungle and we are in the forest also here in Vrindavan. So many youths also here, how many youths are here? I know some of you are young at heart as they say [laughter]. If you are under 30 raise your hands. Oh! You are not, you are 35. So just majority 30 or 35. So the times have changed, youths are going to the temples during early morning hours. This wasn’t happening, so times have changed. Everyone used to think ‘when we get old’ religion was for those who were failures. Only turning to God when there was some difficulty. After enjoying his body and life and senses, when the body is getting rotten and then svaha. After we had enjoyed the useless when we get old we will think. Whats the hurry? So that attitude is changing. For that cause Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s sankirtana movement is causing that change. We are very happy, youths are stepping forward. Anyway, no one is old or young. This is again dvadva.

dvandvatito vimatsarah [BG 4.22]

dvandva of this world, to think someone is old someone is young is illusion also.

'ei bh?la, ei manda,'—ei saba 'bhrama' [Caitanya Caritamrta Antya 4.176]

Young means bhalo, nice. Manda means old and useless. This is also bodily concept. ‘Srila Prabhupada, Srila Prabhupada’ one devotee said while Prabhupada not well, ’77. Pancha Dravida Swami, my God brother said to Srila Prabhupada ‘I am young man, could I offer my youth so that you may live longer? Could I offer my youth so you may live longer?’ ‘Doesn’t matter if I leave.’ Did I make it clear? One is leaving ‘so that you may live’ and ‘I don’t mind if I have to leave.’ ‘Please accept my youthful days or years’ at that time Prabhupada said ‘you’re not young, I’m not old.’ He was explaining.

One reporter said ‘Why you are offering sannyasa to your young disciple? This is when they get old they should be given sannyasa but you are offering in the young age.’ Prabhupada asked so what is your definition of old age, or who is old?’ The reporter said ‘one who is about to die is old.’

Then Srila Prabhupada said ‘well I am old so I am seventy five, eighty years old and my disciples are twenty five, thirty years old. Is there
guarantee that they will not die before I do?’ You understand? And many disciples did die before Srila Prabhupada so one who is about to die is old. Who is not about to die, anyone here?

So we have to take birth with a death certificate. Here it goes guaranteed, one thing guaranteed. If you’re looking for a guarantee, one thing is certain. What is that? As sure as death. What happened? We wanted to stay in the mood of Yashoda Damodar {laughter}. Because of not having enough time I thought I would not do a Bhagavatam verse, just talk something about Damodar or Damodarastak. So I was saying, you probably have heard this is Bala Krishna. Yashodanandan, yes so that will bring us back into the mood again, childhood pastimes so many of them. Stealing butter, makhan chori is his favourite pastime, of the Lord and devotees also.

There is so many, unlimited pastimes like waves. Waves day and night, waves in the Arabic ocean here, and all the oceans, and all the oceans most of the ocean. Some oceans are less. So this is in Gokul and its night time, so late in the evening Yashoda is sitting in the courtyard outside Nanda bhavan. Krishna is in the lap of mother Yashoda.

Yashoda ca maha bhaga

Yashoda is very, very fortunate. Krishna is lying where? In the lap of mother Yashoda, and then when Krishna looked up, what did he see?
Moon, and he thought this is some kind of toy and he wanted to have that toy.

Children think in terms of playing and eating? It is these two things they like the most how to play with any object they get they like to see if they could play with it or eat it. You know toys they would eat sometimes. So Lord is acting like that, like a child from this world, and acting like children from this world. In this way He’s hiding His ID. His identity the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is the creator of the moon. He is creator of the moon, He is playing ‘oh mummy, that toy’ {weeping sounds}.

maiya chand khilona laio

O Mother, bring me that toy which is the moon. Chanda khilona, Please you get chand khilona, that toy. And if you don’t do so then, now I am in your lap but not for very long. If you don’t give me the toy, that one,

lauta jau dharnipar teri goda na ayoo maiya

I will roll on the ground but not lie ion your lap because you are not giving me the toy! So hurry up!

surabhi ko paya pana na kariya sira choti na gayo

And if you do not give me that toy. I will not drink Surabhi’s milk anymore. What would you drink, Coca cola, or Limca? [laughter] One young man opened his heart, he was from Bombay or at least his photograph was there, holding {Laughter}. I was looking at it, it was many years ago when we were going downtown to Juhu and we closely looked at it and the heart of the young man was a Limca bottle.

Here is Hanuman opening his heart {Laughter} Hanuman has Sita Ram and this young man had a Limca bottle. He had so many things and one of them was this Limca bottle [laughter]. Yet Krishna also had ‘maiya, why is Balaram’s sikha big one? He has lots of hair, big sikha and my sikha is very tiny. And Yashoda because Balarama drinks milk, if you drink you will also have bigger sikha.

But now He says ‘No I will not drink milk and I don’t care for my sikha.’

kaho nanda baba ko, tero suta na kahiyo

Now Yashoda is not taking any action and not giving that toy. ‘Not that toy! You know there is a toy shop around the corner let’s go there. ‘No no! Not that one.

And as Yashoda has not fulfilled her child’s desire, now He says ‘you know, I’m gonna tell everyone.’ ‘What will you tell?’ ‘I will tell everyone that I’m a son of Nanda Maharaja. And I could also rent some PA system, public address and go all over Gokul, tell everyone that I’m the son of Nanda Maharaja.’

‘That’s nice, you are the son of Nanda Maharaja, you may make that announcement there’s no problem.’ He might make that announcement but then He says ‘but I will also tell everyone,

tero suta na kahiyo

I’m not your son, I’m only Nanda Maharaj’s son, I’m gonna tell everyone. So you had better hurry up, like giving ultimatum. Krishna’s steals butter after He wakes up, right? So He’s already up.

Now someone says I should wake up Gopal, maybe in another brahmanda it’s time to wake him up while he has already stolen lots of butter in one brahmanda.

It is in the samaraag so we will do this quickly {referring to singing bhajan}.

Pastimes of Srila Prabhupada’s

Pastimes of Srila Prabhupada’s

Hare Krishna,

It is nice to be back in Vrindavan which is our home. This is Srila Prabhupada’s home also, Vrindavan. So, this gathering is international. 20 nations have gathered all the way from Australia, Italy, Russian, South Africa, United Kingdom, other countries,India? Poland, Holland okay Holland. Ukraine, Narada from Ukraine, Bhramachari here.

Gathering like this is a quite a rare occasion we don't get to be together. When I go to South Africa, there are South African devotees there. I go to American and American devotees like that. Or wherever I go, that country devotees gather or may few other countries. And then when is Vyas Puja, of course some more devotees come together. We have been doing these gatherings off and on. Trying to take the opportunity of the presence of the devotees from various countries in one place one time. There's someone from Kenya also. Ha Kenya? Okay, Someone from Kenya, little boy. Wonderful setting Vrindavan. Wonderful Krishna and His abode is also wonderful.

Adabhut Krishna, Srila Prabhupada describes Krishna has wonderful Krishna, begin with Krishna is wonderful. Srila Prabhupada has revealed Vrindavan unto us. Previous acarya has done this and then on behalf of previous acharya then Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura, Bhakti Vinod Thakura. Previous
acarya Srila Prabhupada has made Vrindavan kind of a talk of the town. Some people know Vrindavane very where. They know Mayapur every where also. I knew Vrindavan, but I did not know Mayapur. Only when I came to Hare Krishna movement, I heard of Mayapur. And again, when we heard of Mayapur. When you go to Maya’s Pur, Mayapur might be something is wrong with this name.

So Srila Prabhupada, very successfully reveal Krishna and Vrindavan, His abode to the whole world. Isn't it? Prabhupada gets the credit for this. One of the 10 offense is against the holy dhama. The acarya or the spiritual master, who reveals dham unto you, you offend him and there is an offense to dham. One who reveal dham unto to you, you offend him, then the dham gets offended. Dham is displeased with you as you displease or hurt or offend that acarya in some ways.

10 offences against holy name. You offend a vaishnav acarya, then holy name is offended, and you again offend that acarya a vaishnav who reveals dham unto you, then dham gets offended. We should be only glorifying Srila Prabhupada, all glories to Srila Prabhupada! Say it, all glories to Srila Prabhupada! So that's the rule, we should always be saying All Glories to Prabhupada! So, by his mercy, or merciful arrangement, that we are we are here in Vrindavan.

It was in 72 I got to come to Vrindavan for first time during this month, month of Karthik. I was in Vrindavan. I have not imagined I was just few, few months in the Hare Krishna movement and, and I got to come to the Vrindavan. And I didn't realize my good fortune that I was going to Vrindavan, Srila Prabhupada did all this. Importance of Kartik so he had invited his followers to come to celebrate this Kartik, Damodar mass in Vrindavan. And there were not so many devotees at that time. There were only 40-50 devotees were attending that International Festival Kartik mahotsav.

And we were thinking, Oh, so many devotees here. Those days 30-40 to 50 devoteesin Vrindavan. So many devotees. Now there are thousands just here just little tiny gathering in a corner somewhere. They already have 40-50 devotees or more, they're on their hundreds of such big and small gatherings.

With so started small like that, it was Kartik festival in 72. We were in Radha Damodar temple. That is where I saw Srila Prabhupada, I mean I have seen him in 71 Hare Krishna festival in Mumbai and 72 Hare Krishna festival.

But I didn’t meet Srila Prabhupada. I never was that close during that Kartik 72 as we arrived at Radha Damodara temple during early morning hours, early morning hours you are in Vrindavan and you are at Radha Damodara temple and your spiritual masters is right there and you're going to see him you know, so many the best combinations and permutations were taking place right there.

So as soon as, Srila Prabhupada, I mean he knew we had arrived, and we knew that he was just there. Srila Prabhupada’s door was wide open.Open door policy not closed door. And we didn't know how to knock, no knocking was required because doors were already opened. Can we, 10-15 devotees
we have come from Mumbai to join this festival, soon we sat around Srila Prabhupada. Room of this size you know, Srila Prabhupada’s quarter, room of this size, that not that not this, kitchen was across that room.

And Srila Prabhupada sat on the asana, “this is too high”, it was not even half of this height. In a corner Prabhupada sat and we sat around him and we were, I was sitting kind of where Radha-Kunda is sitting, this Radha-Kunda. So, I was never that close to Srila Prabhupada. And I was carrying a letter, I meant to meet Srila Prabhupada. As carrying letter of recommendation from my temple president for my initiation. Okay that I have that in my pocket.

And the very first meeting that I had, Srila Prabhupada was talking to us.He was, as he was talking was also looking at us, I guess. A camera around his head was going from one end to the other, taking pictures, taking notes.

So, when he would be looking at me, say when it was my turn to look at him, or him looking at me, and Prabhupada would stop as moving and then he was stop, before you would move again. When he was coming back where I was sitting, again he would stop each time this was had this happen many, many times. And I was wondering why Srila Prabhupada was, what was so special about me. As getting further the tension, I was wondering are my buttons okay? Or my tilaka? And trying to figure it out why was Srila Prabhupada staring at me and you're stopping, pausing there. So, I could not figure it out. I was just speculating, wondering, and then profile that doesn't stop it. Only then I realized what was wrong with me. In those days, I had a habit of moving my thighs. Whenever I heard someone with attention attentively. I was kind of absorbed in the hearing. Then I would move my thighs. Maybe vigorously or violently, I don’t know. And that was disturbing Srila Prabhupada. That was just anartha, not necessary.

“Could you stop” So that became my first instruction from Srila Prabhupada. Stop it! Do it, don’t do it. Two sets of instructions. And the very first one in my case was Don’t do this. Don't do this. And of course, that was one of the items, this could be made bigger, don’t do this. Don’t do this. Don't do that. And before even he asked me to chant Hare Krishna, I was gonna get initiated.

So, my instructions started with it. “Don’t do this” So, we got to be with Srila Prabhupada for whole month of Karthik. Hari Bol! But for two of us, we couldn’t be here for whole month as myself and Pancha Dravida. I got my first initiation. We were both from Mumbai, Bombay. So, we were sent to Agra (City in India).

You go to Agra, you collect grains, ghee, and gud and this and that come back to have the big festival for Govardhan festival. So poor, everyone else stayed on with Srila Prabhupada. We had come all the way from Vrindavan. And in those days, I more than seeing Krishna now we're more eager to see Srila Prabhupada. We're gonna miss Srila Prabhupada. We’re gonna miss Srila Prabhupada in Vrindavan. This was more on our mind that we are going to see Krishna in Vrindavan. See Krishna and we are going to see Srila Prabhupada and then he's going to show us Krishna. This idea will go to Srila Prabhupada and he'll show us Krishna. So,we are so much Srila Prabhupada conscious, those days and these days also consists of our spiritual master. We are gonna miss Srila Prabhupada!

We were young boys I was just in our early 20s and Srila Prabhupada: father, grandfather . Children want to go see daddy or the grandfather, so we are like that or I had that thinking. Then we were around Agra for some time, so we missed some fun, we missed Vrindavan and the transcendental fun,
pleasure being with Srila Prabhupada, hearing Srila Prabhupada and other darsanas for some time we, we have to be out so that was also another instruction from Srila Prabhupada, you go. You go out! I received first initiation from Srila Prabhupada in Vrindavan during Kartik. Probably some of you know, at Radha Damodar temple next to Rupa Goswami Samadhi, and I also received my sannyasa, initiation here in Vrindavan. I've tried to take sannyasa and I also wanted to be. In Vrindavan Srila Prabhupada said, you stay you stay wherever you are. You stay in Bombay and you study in Bombay, you preach in Bombay. I thought I am not sannyasi, I should do some serious studies. I even said, I will read your books, I want to read your books.

I'm a preacher, I'm going to be getting microphone all the time. So, I'm a preacher, you made me preacher. So, let me go to Vrindavan study. Prabhupada said you study here, you preach here. That in Bombay, you stay here for each year.

Then again in ’76, Srila Prabhupada said, we were in Vrindavan. And now you go to Mayapur. How do you go to Mayapur? You walk to Mayapur. Or if you're tired sit in the cart, bullock cart. So that program also started the padayatra, the famous padayatra project, program whose founder acarya is Srila Prabhupada. He gave instructions to do, bullock cart can kirtana on Radhastami. That was in New Delhi at Radha-Parthasarthi Mandir, that is his instruction, you go on a bullock cart. We're having nice time driving in German buses. I was part of Bombay crew Bombay devotees . Hansduta Swami, he wanted me to, we were kind of friends and we had we always did kirtanas together. So, he had come with the buses and he wanted to travel in India, but then his most of his party members were from Germany and few other countries, there was no one from India to translate or talk in Hindi. So he convinced me and then my GBC, Gopal Krishna Prabhu, Gopal Krishnadas adhikari at that time.

I joined the bus party and traveling all over North India with those buses we traveled a long time. And then buses had to go to Germany. And Srila Prabhupada found out that buses had to go and we had a two good size party, Sachinandana. He was part of the party and many others. Some devotees from India. Srila Prabhupada have said I should travel with a bullock cart. So, we're having a good time traveling in German buses and special horn special automatic door closing and opening system. Melody sound also, so 50 people will be watching how the door of this car is going to be closed and how it opens. Then the buses had to go and we had no transportation. So Prabhupada said, “Get down from the bus.” Where do I go, go to the bullock cart? I was kind of showing my position, I was born next to the bullock cart. And my first mode of transportation was bullock cart, when I was only a few months and I was taken around in a bullock cart. From place to place or from one town to another. So Srila Prabhupada, somehow, he knew this background so he asked me to do. So that was Radhastami. And then we met the preparations, we came to Vrindavan and Srila Prabhupada sent me to the bullock cart. The day we departed for Vrindavan, Srila Prabhupada gave the inaugural speech. All the devotees going on that party, we all gathered into Srila Prabhupada’s quarters. We broke a coconut, coconut breaking ceremony and we had coconut on Srila Prabhupada’s desk, for him to take the piece.

And he spoke to us for a long time giving all the guideline how, how we should be performing this Bullock Cart Sankirtana. “You should have Bullock card with a rubber tires” he said like that. “And when you go into the village, you should park near the well.” Why near the well? you will remain clean because there's water next to the water body. Why next to the well? Because well is the heart of the village. All the villagers come to the well, so if you are near the well then you don’t have to go from door to door, they will come to you. So, you parked next to the well, like that. And this winter month, each one of us should have two blankets, Prabhupada said. And he was giving all these instructions. His little children were going on the road, you had already taken them out of their homes and comfort zones and then he was sending them. Just sending out whatever. Just stay under the tree or on the bank of the river. And Krishna’s mercy, Srila Prabhupada was very kind.

So, we did that. And we went from Vrindavan to Prayag, Allahabad and Srila Prabhupada had come there for Kumbha mela and we had our bullock cart party and riding also there. Our cart was parked right in the camp, in the Kumbha mela camp. During morning walk, Srila Prabhupada did kind of
inspection of our bulls how they look like and looking at our cart. On the side of the cart, we had the name of our party we had written on the side of the cart. BHAKTIVEDANTA BULLOCK CART SANKIRTANA PARTY. So Srila Prabhupada, when he started reading that he held his head like this. He was reading the sign of the party by moving his head around. And he was very eager to know how party was performing and he called me one day into his tent and he wanted to know all the details of the bullock cart traveling Sankirtana party and I provided, I shared all the experience of our traveling party from here Vrindavan to Allahabad, Prayag. So Srila Prabhupada was so pleased, his face was beaming with beautiful pleasure emanating from his face. So, delighted to hear what simple thing basically he was happy that we're undergoing lots of inconvenience tapasya and we're depending upon Krishna.

How we are distributing his books and how we are going door to door and begging in the village, bhiksam dehi, people are giving us some potatoes and chilis and aata. And then when towards the end we are cooking all that whatever was available to cook. We were only getting aata, but not suji, so one devotee Siddharth prabhu, he started making a halwa from aata. It very famous and he was mixing some bananas also in it and it was very delicious and refreshing. Our good cook offered to Nitai Gaurasundar, we had a small deity. And you know we're inviting whole village and after kirtana talk, whatever balanced prasaad, after we had our bellies full. That we will do before any program and then whatever was balanced, and we'll announce that there's a prasaad, so people were coming with a plate. So, we make them sit down and serve them for prasaad. So, lots of people turning up and hearing Hare Krishna and philosophy and books and prasad. So, when we share this with Srila Prabhupada, he was so happy.

Then we were heading towards Mayapur. But we're only halfway through and we had only, you know, short time at our disposal. At the end of January, we were still in Allahabad than the beginning of march, we had to reach Mayapur and we were thinking for how to do it. We're thinking we want to be in Mayapur for Mayapur festival, but we are 800 miles away from Mayapur and there's no way in one month we could be in Mayapur. So, we're breaking our brains what to do. And then we came up with a, we could do this. Don't tell this to what we did.We hired a lorry.

In the beginning, we decided to travel at night, and we loaded everything our cart, our booth, ourselves into the lorry, also our baggage. And all night long, lorry drove us and dropped us at the border of Bengal and Bihar. So, through the entire Bihar we also had read from Chaitanya Charitamrita that it is risky to travel in Bihar! we had a good reason. About 500 years ago or when travelers would encounter difficulties, Srila Prabhupada told why to take risks. So, we started the journey in the evening and by the morning before sunrise, we had traveled a lot of distance. And we're very close, just maybe 100-150 kilometers from Mayapur. And then again, our program started.Walking and with a cart, kirtana. And we
had grand receptions in Bengal and ladies washing our feet and it was too much we're just 22-21 year old boys and they are considering we are some mahatmas here.

So anyway, we arrived in Mayapur during the day. That time Mayapur, this was 77 for some developments. There was a just Lotus building was there you know this building and the long building construction I think was still going on. So, we arrived and those are the going on at Radha Madhav temple. We took part in kirtana and immediately we wanted to meet Srila Prabhupada and Srila Prabhupada was in his quarters. As we climbed up lower and the second floor, we're about to get on the same floor as Srila Prabhupada, second floor. And then was only turning right and then Prabhupada’s
door, as we're about to climb up that floor. There was a Harisauri prabhu, well-built Australian. He stopped us and said where are we going? we thought we had a right to see our spiritual master,Srila Prabhupada. He was doing his duty he thought why disturb Srila Prabhupada.

So luckily, Srila Prabhupada, he had gone to the bathroom and he was coming out of the bathroom and he was about to get into his room. Then he saw some tussle, some pulling and pushing, and argument is going on and then here alizes the bullock sankirtan party and I was there. “Let them come” Hari Bol, the path was cleared, and we entered Srila Prabhupada’s quarters. We offered our obeisances to Srila Prabhupada and as we took our seats, all devotees from Bullock cart Sankirtan party received garland. There were big, big garland, smell of roses big roses there are many devotees who offered garland to Srila Prabhupada.

So, Srila Prabhupada puts the maha garland on the side. So, Srila Prabhupada was killing us with love. Yes, killing, killing with so much affection. If we were soldiers and we had come victorious and his congratulating, welcoming, param vijayate sri krishna sankirtanam. All glories to sankirtana, Padayatra Bullock Sankirtan! And then he again as he was very anxious to hear reports on experience for Sankirtan party from Vrindavan to Allahabad, he had heard that report. Now he wanted a hear from Allahabad,Prayag to Mayapur. So how was the journey, Srila Prabhupada asked. “It was easy journey to Mayapur planet Srila Prabhupada” That is how I tried to make it little humorous. “It was easy journey to Mayapur planet.”

And we provided some more details of our journey . Like that we were talking to our spiritual master Srila Prabhupada. Now you go to Bhubaneshwar and then go to Jagannath Puri and he immediately gave us another destination. We have gone from Vrindavan to Mayapur and to Jagannath Puri. So then, that was decided to be the next destination.

I was not with a party another it was idea to start another party from Hyderabad farm so I was on the way to Hyderabad. Then I was passing through Mumbai, on the way to Hyderabad and Gopal Krishna maharaj,he had lost me one time and he thought this is his opportunity to get me back again. And he spoke to Srila Prabhupada. And proposal was I should head up BBT traveling sankirtan party, Maharaja was in charge of BBT Bombay. And the proposal also was that while I'm traveling and preaching with a van distributing books, I could also oversee the bullock cart Sankirtan party. So, I could take care of two projects at the same time. So, we had gone to in a BBT van and tours of Bhubaneshwar and Jagannatha Puri and that was first time I was there 77 Jagannatha Rath Yatra Festival time and I'm very, very anxious to have the darshan of Jagannatha, the day before Rath Yatra they open the doors.

After Snana Yatra ,bathing to Jagannatha, and he gets sick and the doors are closed, no darsana for two weeks or so. And then day before Rath Yatra, they open the door so that day I was there with our party. I was trying to get in each other into the temple for the darsana. This time, we were stopped by the pandas, big pandas and a lot of prasaad. It was a bit surprise for us. Everyone else was going in for the darshan and some kind of pandas, they liked us, or disliked us, picked us up.

I had my danda and all that I thought that would make to be helpful. I had my passport to see Jagannatha. But there was no way they will not let me in Jagannatha Puri temple, because we are ISKCON followers. Rest of the India was thinking we are agents. We told them why we cannot take darsan? They replied,“You are Christian before and this ISKCON has converted you so you're not born Hindu”, so go out so we're still arguing and debating but nothing was working out so what worked out was they just picked me up those pandas and put me outside the door and for me I couldn't take darshan that day. But one devotee born in Christian family, he was also following me. My god brother from America, the black body, but not totally black, Indian looking kind of body. So, while we're battling with a panda, he kind of distanced from that battling crowd andhe went in and get a darshan of mam Jagannatha and he came back and “Maharaja tulsi for you!” [devotees laughing]

“Charan Tulsi from Jagannatha lotus feet”.I said thank you but how did you manage to get it? You were born in a Christian family! Jagannatha Lila! Jagannatha made all arrangements, because that Prabhu had strong desire to have darsan of Jagannath. Srila Prabhupada came to know, I was stopped from darsan and there was some correspondence but that expressed displeasure to Srila Prabhupada. Like that and so, that was we are talking about Jagannath Rath Yatra in 77. So, that is month what is that month, July month of July and then Srila Prabhupada was in Bombay and then he had to heal as you know, 77 and he had come to Vrindavan and then he had gone to Rishikesh for recuperation, and he had come back to Vrindavan. And then he had gone out to London. He was on the way to America, then he was again his health, not getting better. So,he wanted to go to Vrindavan, so he had come to Bombay. And so, then I also had come to Bombay. That Srila Prabhupada was different physically. He also looked physically less active although spiritually he was most active.

So, we had opportunity, I don't know whether that time could be that time on another time during that year. The BBT of Mumbai have just now published “The Perfection of Yoga”, translated in Marathi and printed in Marathi. So, I went to Srila Prabhupada’s quarters. My godmother Prassanatha Maharaj and his wife Parvati, we were together, and we went to Srila Prabhupada, we presented the book Perfection of Yoga in Marathi.

As a new publication in Marathi language, Prabhupada took it and was very happy and he handed book back to me and he said read so I, I read a little bit, a few lines are a small paragraph and I was thinking this is a Marathi Why should I be bothering to Srila Prabhupada, Marathi, Perfection of Yoga. So, I was kind of closing the book stuff in reading,“read on read on” and I had to read I read on and on. Srila Prabhupada was listening to perfection of yoga in Marathi language.Taking that to be transcendental language different a lot of times he would say in Mumbai to us, “look at the children in the audience”, he would speak in English, then he would point to us,“they don't understand but they are still there hearing”.

“They'll be benefited even if they don't understand the language, just because it is spiritual,it is about Krishna, they know it is about Krishna, so benefit is there.”So, he was appreciating that perfection of yoga in Marathi language. This was August-September We had opportunity to do kirtans with small kartal will be chanting.

Chant for Srila Prabhupada, every day I had my turn singing for Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada lying on the bed and sitting only one person sitting next to him on the floor and singing. One day I had gone out preaching all day making like members or something like that and then the debating ahead of my turn to chat and I was very tired, very tired.

Srila Prabhupada realized and “go take rest” He understood me and “go take rest” Another time, I don't know the context he that Guru puja.

ara na kari ha mani asha

There's no other desire other than fulfilling the desire of spiritual master. “ara na kari ha mani asha” Another time I chanted, and towards the end I stopped, and I asked Srila Prabhupada, “Prabhupada, Prabhupada does anything that we have not done as of yet that we should do so that you are cured and his answer was chant Hare Krishna.”

“Just chant Hare Krishna that will cure me just chant Hare Krishna.” He would say something. He said the medicine is to just chant Hare Krishna. So, he was there for some time in Mumbai Then Srila Prabhupada departed for Vrindavan, he came by train. This time he came by train. Normally, he would fly to Delhi, Mumbai-Delhi and then he will drive, but the reason wasfrom Delhi to Vrindavan that road was not in good shape. Or it had rained so potholes and so to avoid that Srila Prabhupada took that train journey. So, all there as Srila Prabhupada was leaving from the train station, train Mathura-Vrindavan. Bhima Prabhu, I suddenly remember. From Mumbai, BBT member, our god brother.

He had cooked something and brought for Srila Prabhupada so of course, he will see Srila Prabhupada. But then what had happened was someone locked him. It must have been accident. And he realized it was Prabhupada’s train at such and such time and for that he must be now leaving for the station. And he was banging doors and doing this and doing that could somehow get me out of here. I want to see Srila Prabhupada leaving for train station. Andno one came to rescue him that time. So, I had interviewed him and working on that many book projects, one of them is Bombay days.

Srila Prabhupada in Mumbai is one of my book projects.

That's where I had a lot of association of Srila Prabhupada and not just me for Bombay Yatra! So, Bhima prabhu was deprived of progress to see Srila Prabhupada, just before going to Vrindavan. And then 77 October, whole month of October, and then part of November, which was part of Kartik also 77 Srila Prabhupada was here and Vrindavan, that is homeand many more things happened, Srila Prabhupada was very active spiritually very active, fully conscious, Krishna conscious or aware. Srila Prabhupada was still writing his books. His purport on the 10th canto (Srimad Bhagavatam) 13th chapter he was working on. Next to his bed, there was big books drawer of our Acharya’s commentaries. Pradyumna prabhu will read out Sanskrit commentaries and Jayadvaita Maharaja will hold dicta-phone next to his mouth.

So Srila Prabhupada, he would listen to the commentaries and then he would write his comments and purport. So that went on even during those last days in Vrindavan. And I had another opportunity serving Srila Prabhupada, I had to find doctor for Srila Prabhupada. Some of these things I have shared other day when I had my time to talk Srila Prabhupada katha before Srila Prabhupada’s disappearance day. Srila Prabhupada had a friend called Dr. Ghosh from Allahabad. He was a grihastha from Allahabad so Prabhupada remembered him. So, I was asked to go find a doctor and was emergency and everything had to happen fast, so I had to travel fly, and this was the first time I flew into the plane. There's another time I was in the plane. I saw Srila Prabhupada in a plane. Only one time, that was in Mumbai.

Srila Prabhupada had boarded the plane. But we realized something Prabhupada had left behind and we wanted to get that to Prabhupada. He was already sitting in his seat and it’s time to start engine and we made arrangements through the authorities. This has to be delivered to Srila Prabhupada. So, I was sent “go, go, go”. So, the security I ran up the stairs and then I found Srila Prabhupada sitting to the window seat and I offered my obeisances and Dandavats. Everyone was surprised what is going on here.

For the first time in the history of Air India, someone offering falling flat in the aisles, collapses in concealed what happenedor as we saw Srila Prabhupada, Dandavats! So, we I delivered that item which was left behind and then I paid obeisances and so this is the only memory I have of Srila Prabhupada, sitting in the in the plane. I wished all the time to pick up Srila Prabhupada at the airport and once Prabhupada was in the plane and would go to the top of the another terminal building and would always keep an eye on that that that aircraft is Srila Prabhupada’s, now it is going to the runway, now is taking off, now taken off and we would keep looking at the plane till and finally disappeared and then as we could not see the aircraft anymore, Obeisances! and then back to the temple.

Similar to the gopis.
The gopis also when Krishna and Balarama living for Mathura. They kept looking at that chariot. There's some point they could not even see the chariot, they were looking at the dust that was raised by that chariot. And when they couldn't see anything anymore, they just collapse, fell on the ground. So, every time we would go to the airport, we would to go through these emotions as Prabhupada’s aircraft. Now he is leaving, 77 Srila Prabhupada wanted his doctor so he arranged me to go pick him bring him and he paid for my airfare. Of course, I had no money, have my own profile paid from his own funds. I managed to finally get that doctors that was one service I rendered and then we were traveling.

By this time our traveling party, that BBT traveling party, we had changed the name of a party as “Narada Muni travelling Sankirtana Party” as he was traveling very fast everywhere. Distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books we have gone all the way to Bhadrikastam. From Vrindavan to Bhadrikastam
distributing books.

And then we have no news of Srila Prabhupada’s health. This is 77, there was no email, there were no mobile phone even calling from Delhi to Vrindavan. You're lucky if you could get on the phone, or You come to Vrindavan to deliver the message say this or say that. You know what, there was no way you didn't succeed every time that he got on the phone, get message from Delhi to Vrindavan. So, what to speak of Bhadrikasram to Vrindavan.

So, we're in anxiety, so we were rushed back to Vrindavan. And that was only like a one week before Srila Prabhupada’s departure. And so, I have lot to do that time, which was departing days and his wishes too. He wanted to travel in with the bullock cart.

In 76, he had asked me to go start the bullock cart sankirtana and given me instructions and blessings and he thought by now we're kind of well-versed we, we have learned to act. And so, 77 November he wanted to personally go on that bullock cart, travel with the bullock cart as an experiment he wanted to travel.

He said, “Start and let’s go to Govardhan.”

So, there's a whole emotions and commotions and lot of things are going on or this proposal of Srila Prabhupada’s desire to travel to Govardhan on the bullock cart. And then that idea was dropped although bullock cart had come and was parked in front of Krishna Balarama temple. Srila Prabhupada could have asked for helicopter or he could have asked for some other transportation but no, he wanted to travel with bullock cart.

That's how Krishna travels in Vrindavan.

And when Krishna travelled from Gokul to Vrindavan, all residents of Gokul travelled, how did they do that? All weretravelling with bullock Cart. Krishna, Balarama, Yashoda, Rohini was sitting in one bullock cart and all those bullock carts were parked at Chhattikara. Chhattikara is town village all the bullock carts are parked there. And they stayed there for some time before they moved on to Nandagram finally.

That simple basic mode of transportation Srila Prabhupada preferredduring his last days also. Then after just one day in between again he proposed is traveling plans, traveling desires. And this time you wanted to travel with the buses, going to the place of the pilgrimage and as we were busy, I was one of those persons supposed to be organized each of Srila Prabhupada’s travel arrangements, busses and advance party and lots of talks about Srila Prabhupada. He was lying in bed and he was giving all the ideas of how to do the command party in advance party and that's party one was the main party arrives advanced party goes in advance and like that. We still follow the formula that he gave.

And that time we're also very happy thinking that Srila Prabhupada is going to stay longer with us because he wants to travel and he has dropped his ideas of going back to home or back to Krishna, he is going to stay on longer with us. So, we're happy that Prabhupada is going to be traveling all over India with the buses and we get to travel with him also. “So, could I travel?” different devotees proposing,Giriraj from Mumbai was proposing. “I will make live members wherever we go. There are rich people, some businessman, industrialist, I could make some nice members. Could I go through the program with you?”

Yes.

Not yes! [Srila Prabhupada making sound of yes] Bhakti Swarup Damodara Maharaja could I go and the scientific people? I could organize some bi conferences. Could I go?

[sound of yes] This was being made Yes, yes. Yes, you're okay. You could go.

And some of us Bhakti Chaitanya from Chandigarh, he was a good driver. Could I go I could drive you Srila Prabhupada? [Srila Prabhupada saying yes] So, like that many leaders were taking turn. Could I go Could I? Srila Prabhupada was agreeing, yes, you could go. And although I knew that I would definitely go that there are lots of discussions prior to this. But again, Iwanted to confirm so when I said, “could I also go Srila Prabhupada?”

Srila Prabhupada said, “he will be our leader”

So, I was also booked, confirmed. And in fact, that is the last dialogue encounter I remembered. Iremember Srila Prabhupada that STOP IT! [laughing] that was the first one and the very last one I remember is his traveling party idea. “You will be our leader”, and this was few days before
Prabhupada’s departure.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada! [Devotees chanting All glories to Srila Prabhupada]

So, Srila Prabhupada is the revealer of the Dham unto us. He invited us, to me also I remember in 72 or he allowed me to come and since then I've beencoming to Vrindavan. That was the first Karthik, I got to be Vrindavan, 72. And then with that bullock cart program that he asked me to do, traveling all over India and finally we came to Vrindavan. We are doing padayatra everywhere so why not in Vrindavan?

So,while making plans for Vrindavan padayatra, we made plans I'm going on Parikramapath. And that was the first ever Parikrama, ISKCON’s Parikrama. So, starting from that year then so that Parikrama we did was just around Gaur Purnima, Mayapur Vrindavan festival time so that all the devotees could take part.

And then following year with started doing Parikrama during Kartik and then that year to this year is a 22nd year, 22nd annual Vraja Mandal Parikrama which we are just about to conclude. So, because of the mercy of this the Damodara Masa and Kartik festival.

I just doing other calculations I normally think I don't get to stay in Vrindavan you go Bombay and preach there. But then when you do the grand total time, 22 months that is almost two years, almost two years I stayed in Vrindavan, besides some other in and out. And due to this padayatra and parikrama then we're also introduced to the wider Vrindavan. Prior to that we all we knew Vrindavan loi bazaar Vrindavan and may be Barsana, Nandagaon and Gokul…finished! That was kind of extent how much we knew. But around the time that we did padayatra in Vrindavan for first time, my God brother, Dhruva Maharaj prabhu, he had made us slideshow of Vrindavan’s twelve forest. That was first time I saw that photographs, deities and so that also kind of gave me idea so let's go.

How can we go to all 12 forests? The only way we go is through Parikrama. Only when we went on parikrama we got the see whole Vraja Mandal dimension. I did not know Raval. That Radharani was born in Barsana. Everyone knew Radharani was from Barsana, but later she moved to Barsana. So, all being revealed unto us by Srila Prabhupada’s Grace.

And it's no small thing what we are revealed, what has been revealed by previous acharyas and Srila Prabhupada. So, the truth has been revealed. Krishna has been revealed, Krishna’s dham has been revealed, Krishna’s name has been revealed, Krishna’s form has been presented and revealed unto us. His qualities, his pastimes, and we have brought so close to Vrindavan. We are brought in the midst of Krishna, cow herd boys, they could be just around us they see us we don't see them.

Cowherd boys maybe just around right now right here.I don't know whether on this floor but they could be they're herding their cows and Krishna may be sitting now on these trees and playing his flute right now! Or he may be at Radha Kunda, noon time is for gopis.

Astakaliya pastime! It’s amazing what has happened to us what Krishna has done to us with the help of our previous acharyas, Vaishnava acharyas and Srila Prabhupada. and we have brought back toKrishna’s lotus feet. And revealed Krishna to us And we are here back in Vrindavan, one year [passed] this quickly that one devotee on Vraja Mandal Parikrama towards the end of the parikrama, we asked him to share the realizations and one devotee
share his realization and he said, You know, he was from the west and he said in the West, he always thinks so, while he's on Sankirtana or wherever he always thinks, of going back to home, back to Godhead, meaning I had to go somewhere. It is not here. I'm not back. I had to go back somewhere I had to go then that is going back to home.

But then he said, as he since the time he, he came to Vrindavan, and he was going on Vraja Mandal parikrama, this thought that he had that he has to go somewhere, this thought was no more there, going back to home, back to Godhead is going somewhere else is going back to Godhead. That thought
was no more there. It was realization, meaning he was thinking I have come back home. I'm home. I'm back. I'm back. I'm back. Here the strong realization that I have come back from here, I don't have to go anywhere I have. I'm back. I am in Vrindavan.

So, how valuable is that realization? Someone could realize this. This is my home. This is Krishna’s land. I'm with Krishna. I'm here. Enter that spirit and when devotees doing Govardhan hill parikrama little home you know with one drop here at the rocky another one on the top Sheila stand in the front and they pray! What is their prayer? They may have a big bungalow wherever but they make little house there and “My dear Lord when I'm finished with his body could you give me shelter here is my house could I put on my dwelling be here in the Valley of this Govardhan hill, could you give us spot here” This is the mood and is a prayer please bring me back here.

So, there's nothing better to be had. There's nothing there's Krishna you know Krishna there's nothing more you need to know andwe have Krishna and is nothing more that he had toacquire. So, that kind ofarrangement or facility. Everything has been provided. We just have to go for it. Grab it. You're giving so much of your mercy Srila Prabhupada to this sannyasi, which sannyasi? Hari Bol? Bol Nityananda Bol, Hari Bol Hari Bol!

Prabhupada has given so much mercy to this Visnujan. And Srila Prabhupada, “No, no, I'm equal to everybody”, but he has taken more mercy. It is equally equal opportunity. But he has taken more. So, like that everything is available. And we all have equal opportunity. If we could take more and be greedy and grab this opportunityand grab Krishna’s lotus feet.

So, we are on the wayand if you could keep going keep movingin the direction that we are shown, the direction that previous Acarya hasgone followed

mahajano yena gatah sa pantha (CC Madhya 17.186).

That's the way, we have to make sure we are on the right path. And, in the right company the devotees, like minded devotees, sincere seekers of the truth, sincere seekers of Krishna, those kinds of devotees. And then, once you’re part of thatassembly crowd of the devotees, then what happens then you will naturally end up with Krishna.

Like if you have gone to Allahabad and you want to go to triveni sangam to take bath, as soon as you get off the bus or train, then you see people going, you don't even have to ask. In Allahabad you don’t ask, you don't ask people oh, which way is sangam where I go take bath. You don't ask, you just see which way people are moving there. Because everyone has come to take baths and they don't go anywhere else. So, you don't even ask, you know what people have come for. You just become part of that crowd. And once you're part of that crowd, sometimes you don't even have to walk. What happens, it is so crowded that you can't even put your foot on the ground, you are lifted, you get a lift. You are crushed within between two strong fellows. They're just pushing you bringing you forward. So that kind of devotee association benefits derives. So, chant, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare| Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare [devotees also chanting] and be with devotees and engage in Krishna’s various services and make your life perfect.

Thank you! Hare Krishna
Lokanath Swami Maharaja ki Jai

A pastime of Bali Maharaja and Vamandev

A pastime of Bali Maharaja and Vamandev

esha vaa uttamashloko
na jihaasati yad yashah
hatvaa mainaam hared yuddhe
shayeeta nihato mayaa [SB 8.20.13]

Translation: If this brahmana really is Lord Vishnu, who is worshiped by Vedic hymns, He would never give up His widespread reputation; either He would lie down having been killed by me, or He would kill me in a fight.

Yes. That’s the kind of person He is.

Purport: Bali Maharaja’s statement that Vishnu would lie down having been killed is not the direct meaning, for Vishnu cannot be killed by anyone. Lord Vishnu can kill everyone, but He cannot be killed. Thus, the real meaning of the words “lie down” is that Lord Vishnu would reside within the core of Bali Maharaja’s heart. Lord Vishnu is defeated by a devotee through devotional service; otherwise, no one can defeat Lord Vishnu.

He is mentioned herein as uttamashloko. Shloks you know? Different folks, different shloks. [laughs]. So these are uttam, uttamashlokas. The Lord, that is glorified by uttamashloko, the best of the shloks. ‘Utt’ means above and ‘tam’ means darkness or ignorance that is beyond the darkness. Shloks glorifying the Lord. That glory is not mundane glory, not in the mode of goodness, passion or ignorance. Such so-called glories exist, they are around.

The Lord's glories are uttama, transcendental to all these tamasic glories or glories in the mode of darkness. So, this verse says, He is the Lord who is glorified by the Vedic hymns. Vamandev ki… Jaya.

So, I was thinking, as usual, what are the lessons or highlights of this pastime? Vamandev and Bali Maharaja prasanga. What are the major principles established? What are some of the universal affairs take place in connection with this pastime? Even talk of cosmology and astronomy in connection with this pastime.

So that was my thought when I looked at the verse and I thought of pursuing that. So, let's see how far we can go. The demigods were in trouble. They get into trouble from time to time [Laughs] they are bhaktas, devotees of the Lord.

na me bhaktah pranashyati [BG 9.31) Lord has made that declaration.

So, He is stepping forward, He is there to intervene. The circumstances in which all this happenes is Kashyap Muni returns home and the wife did not seem so happy. He said: “What happened? What's wrong?” Then she shared what happened to all her sons. Some of the demigods are sons of Aditi and Kashyap. He is the progenitor. He said: “Ok, you could perform payo-vrath.” Which she does and in record-breaking time of just one dozen days, she brought the Lord before her.

I used to think for some time that Dhruva Maharaja broke the record. Within six months he managed to get the Lord standing before him. Here, Aditi managed to get the Lord within twelve days. As I say this, I am also reminded of Katvanga muni. Katvanga Muni: “Oh, I have seven days. What can I do? Oh, seven days is a lot of time.” Katvanga Muni had just a few moments, he became fully Krishna conscious and he went back to Godhead. Haribol! So, I think there are many record breakers, Aditi, Dhruva Maharaja and Katvanga Muni.

So, the Lord is tricky. He could trick and He has become vatu Vaman. Vatu means dwarf Vaman. Initially, He appeared in a regular form and size of the Lord and then He transformed Himself into Vatu Vaman. As it happened with Devaki and Vasudev. There was Lord Vishnu, four-handed and then He transformed Himself into a child. So, here He becomes Vatu Vaman and there is a reason. He doesn't consult but just by the desire of the Lord, things begin to happen. Just last night we were reading about that; iccha shakti. One of the shaktis of the Lord is iccha shakti. There is jnana shakti and parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate (Svetasvatara Upanisad 6.8)

Vividha means very many.  That is why He is known as shaktiman because He possesses all the shaktis. So, one of those shaktis is iccha shakti. Just mere desire and things happen. So, He had a desire to do something to help the Demigods. So, He has assumed this form, Vatu Vaman and now He proceeds towards the yajna on the banks of Narmada river. Bali Maharaja is now the Lord of the universe. Indra is no longer the Lord. He has been dethroned. He is hiding behind the clouds somewhere, scared and when Bali Maharaja had gone to challenge him and eventually attack him. Bali Maharaja’s power was felt in the outskirts of Amravati, Indra’s capital. When Bali Maharaja blew his conch shell, that was enough. All the demigods fled in fear just by hearing the sound of the conch shell. Hence it is said that when the conch shell is blown, the glories of the Lord are being
blown or broadcasted. One thing that I understand from the blowing of the conch shell is the glories of the Lord are being broadcasted or roared. The Bhagavatam is like the roaring of a lion, then little rabbits and all creatures, Kali’s followers; they all flee in fear when Bhagavatam does the garjana. When Bhagavatam roars, there is silence.

Sri Radha Gopinath ki… Jaya.

So, Bali Maharaja was performing the hundredth sacrifice. So, what happens when someone does this? You could also do, if you could manage. Perform hundred sacrifice and then you become the next Indra. So, this was about to happen, because this was the hundredth sacrifice. Hence the Lord's arrival was timely, just one more to go and Bali Maharaja ends up becoming Indra.

So, Lord Vaman comes the beauty of Vaman is described as the Sun is rising in the east. Bhagavatam describes that when Vaman Dev was walking towards the sacrifice everyone assembled felt “Is this the Sun God walking towards us as he is so effulgent.”

And of course, when Bhagavatam describes, koti surya sama prabha. The prabha or the effulgence coming from the Personality of Godhead is koti surya sama prabha. Koti means ten million Sun’s effulgence put together like that is the effulgence of the Lord. So the assembled people thought “Is this Sun coming in our direction?.”

Vaman Dev, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, has become a beggar. By doing so, He is glorifying Bali Maharaja. He is honoring Bali Maharaja aby taking the position of a beggar.

This is how the comments are, they talk about how He has become a beggar and then Bali Maharaja’s spiritual master said: “Hye! No, no! Don’t do this! Don’t surrender! Don’t give everything to Him!.”

If things are not favorable, then we reject it. That is the foundational principle.

anukulasya sankalpa pratikulsya varjanam

Anukulasya – favorable – Sankalp, I take a vow to do this because it is favorable. Pratikulsya- unfavorable – Whatever is unfavorable for devotional service we reject and what to speak of surrendering everything unto Him. Then Bali Maharaja rejects his spiritual master. This is quite a big thing in history. Bali Maharaja said: “I don’t care for your advice!”

He commented like that. Shukracharya: “If you give everything to the Lord. I am the Guru. I am supposed to be getting dakshina. What will I get? I will get nothing.” That kind of motivation. But Bali Maharaja considered that as unfavorable he rejected the proposal and the proposer for the time being at least.

Bali Maharaja: “Ok, go ahead, take three steps of land." Bali Maharaja was thinking, this is some kind of insult. “I am the proprietor of the three worlds.” There are fourteen planetary systems, three divisions; Svarga, Mrithyu lok, Patal ok and He is only asking for three steps of land. Bali Maharaja said, “What! Ask for more! Ask for more!” and then there is a point we must take note of.

Vaman Dev said: “If I am not going to be happy with three steps, well there is no end. If you give Me three planetary systems, or you give Me more and more, there is no end to the greed. So, no no, three steps of land is sufficient.” [laughs] Of course, while saying this Vaman dev knows what He will take in those three steps.

He says: “Promise is a promise, gentleman’s promise.” This greed part is a lesson from this pastime. Even Mahatma Gandhi said: “Need is ok, not the greed.” You have a right to whatever basic needs are there. That should be provided, you should acquire that much. However, when you get into the region of greed, there is no end. So, when Bali Maharaja finally asked: “This is what you wish? Just three steps? It's not going to be much. Ok, go ahead. So be it thathasthu.

Now the Lord is going to show His true nature. With one step He covers all the lower planetary systems. There are seven lower planetary systems and all that is covered by the Lord's one step. Of course, once He takes the first step, He is no more Vaman, He has become Trivikram.

Vikram also means victorious. He has become victorious by taking three steps. He has become Trivikram. When He does that, Bhagavatam describes that His form has become as big as the universe, and everything that is within the universe is now covered also.Everything is within Him. Some kind of universal form. It’s the Lords form Trivikrama, not the kind that Lord Krishna showed to Arjuna. But He is showing within Me, everything exists.
Just as Yashoda said: “Oh! You ate the dirt!” And Krsna says: “I did not eat.” Yashoda:

“Open your mouth.” Then, when Krsna opened His mouth, what did Yashoda see? The entire universe was in his mouth. Where Yashoda had the vision, it is called Brahmanda ghat in Vrndavan. At this particular ghat, Yashoda saw the entire brahmanda within the Lord.

vishvasya dhamne, that is the point.
namas te ‘stu damne sphurad-dipti-dhamne
tvadiyodarayatha vishvasya dhamne

The prayer says, I offer my obeisances to that rope also, and I offer my obeisances to that udar-the belly, which is vishvasya dhamne. One is damne and one is dhamne. This is where correct pronunciation is essential. One is damne–the rope. Dham is your belly. vishvasya dhamne. Whole vishwa is ok mam

So, that experience was there, that the whole world was inside that form of Trivikram. As His leg was extended and it reached Brahma lok, Sathya lok, they were wondering what this is, sticking out here and going and going higher. Soon they realized this is my Lord's lotus feet and Brahma gathers his associates and worshipped the lotus feet, including washing the lotus feet. He came with a kamandalu. As He pours the water, then the water that washed the lotus feet of the Lord started flowing. Ganga Maiya ki… jaya, this is Ganga.

pada-nakha-nira-janita-jana-pavana [Sri Dasavatara Stotra]

Lord’s pada- lotus feet, nakha-nails, nira-water, Brahma poured water. janita-jana-pavana – that water which washed the lotus feet and toes and nails especially mentioned became purifying water. Jana is all of us, the people. Pavana – purifying. That is one origin of Ganga is this. Another explanation is when the Lord lifted His foot, it kind of bumped into and hit into the covering of the universe and the water from the causal ocean starts dripping in.

That’s one more origin of Ganga related to the pastime of Trivikrama.

In the Garga Samhita, it is mentioned that one time the Demigod wanted to go all the way to Golok and do reporting of the difficulties on the earth. Dharmasya glanir, there is a decline in religious principles. “My dear Lord, You have to personally come!” Instead of going to the shore of ksirsagar, they wanted to go to Golok and that time they went through this tunnel which was caused by Vaman, Trivikram's piercing the covering. So the Ganga water is flowing in, from outside coming in and Devtas were walking right on the bank of Ganga in the opposite direction. The Garga Samhita describes. And when they came out for the first time, what did they see? There are so many universes all around, all over floating. When
they were inside, they didn't know, they had not seen anything, maybe had heard, but now they were able to see the brahmaandas all around.

So, when Vaman Dev was just arriving on the scene there was a daughter. It is mentioned both that she was a daughter of Bali Maharaja and in some places it’s mentioned that she was the sister. Ratnamala was her name. When she saw this little, beautiful, cute little boy holding an umbrella and a kamandalu, she really liked this boy and she thought or desired: “I wish I could have a child like him. Could I ever have a child, like him?” This was one thought.

So, two steps were taken, where is the third step to go? So, Bali Maharaja said: “The only thing left is my head now, so you may place your foot there.” Before that, Vaman Dev said:

“You promised three steps, ok arrest him!” The snake was there, Vasuki, and he tied up and arrested Bali Maharaja. When the sister or daughter Ratnamala saw that scene then she had another thought. “What, what kind of guy He is? I will kill Him!” Then this Ratnamala becomes Putna. In Lord Krishna’s pastimes, she takes the role of Putna. In her previous life, she was the sister or daughter of Bali Maharaja. Now she gets to have Krsna as her darling in her lap and how are you? Nice. Kissing and everything, ok have some breastmilk also. She got the Lord as her son and then the next thing, she wanted to kill Him. So, she had come with poison on the breast and her attempt was to kill. So, both things happened there.

When Bali Maharaja was tied up, then Prahlad Maharaja who is the grandfather of Bali Maharaja arrived on the scene begging for forgiveness. “My dear Lord, please take care of my grandson.” There are beautiful prayers. And then he was dispatched. “Ok, you can’t be here. You have surrendered everything. Now you are empty pockets nothing. You go to Sutal planet.” Bali Maharaja accepted. This pastime of Bali Maharaja and Vamandev, where Bali Maharaja surrenders everything, becomes the glaring example of atma nivedanam.

sravanam kirtanam
visnoh smaranam

pada-sevanam arcanam vandanam
dasyam sakhyam atma-nivedanam (SB 7.5.23).

Atma nivedanam – surrendering everything.Bali Maharaja is the one. He is matchless. No one could compare with the mood or surrender of Bali Maharaja. But then he had to be kind of punished or so called punishment. “Ok, you go to Sutal planet.” And the Lord asked Prahlad Maharaja to also go. “Give him your association and pacify him. He has gone through a lot right now. He lost everything, was insulted, humiliated and tied up. You be
there with him.”

And not only that. We also read here that a devotee could also defeat the Lord. So, Bali Maharaja has defeated the Lord. Both have defeated each other. Bali Maharaja also defeated the Lord because the Lord decides: “I will be there. I will be chaukidhar the guard. I will be at the entrance. And you don’t have to pay any salary. I will just do free service as a guard.” So that is quite a defeat of the Lord. The Lord is taking a humble position.

Then what also happens? This episode is the talk of manvantaras. Manvantaras are the topics of Srimad Bhagavatam. So, this 8 th canto, talks of manvantaras. There are fourteen Manus and in every Manvantara (Manus lifetime) there is an incarnation of the Lord. Now Bali Maharaja is scheduled to be the next Indra.

The seventh Manu- Vaivasvath Manu is there, ruling now and it is the twenty-eighth cycle of the four maha yugas that is on. So, when the rest happens then it’s the next Manu. In every Manu’s lifetime, there is one incarnation, Manu puthras-the sons of Manu, there is an Indra, the Sapta rishis. There are five-six personalities. They become part of the rule of Manu Maharaja. He is a ruler. He has a Manu samhita, and he rules. It’s his constitution. Indra is there every time. So next time, it will be Bali Maharaja. He has been designated to be the next Indra during the next Manu’s time. So, he did not become Indra this time. “Don’t mind. Wait for a while, and you will become the next Indra.”

This life is for Enlightenment not for Enjoyment

This life is for enlightenment not for enjoyment

Noida [1:6:32]

Happy to meet all assembled youth! Like some of you are old ones and some new faces. Faces also keep changing so whatever images we have of your face five years old, five years ago also changes. Luckily we are not worried about the faces but person behind the face is more important than the face. I am asked to address you, this address also is not to your face we are not addressing the faces or we are not addressing your hands or your feet but person behind the face and feet. Thus the basic advice of the understanding is we are not this bodies. You heard about this? Do we exist? We are not the bodies then all that we have is a body? We are not the body then who exists? Does anyone exist? It is the basic question. Our guru maharaja Srila Prabhupada use to say, “We have to understand we are not this body. He used to ask simple questions. He used to ask question Someone here raise your hand the question is. Are you the hand? Or it is your hand? It is your hand. You are not hand, you are not Mr.Hand. Touch your head same question is here are you the head or it is your head? It is my head. I am not head. Then, I am not stomach it belongs to me and legs also I am not the legs leg belong to me.

Then Prabhupada “Ok you are not the hands just cut of the hands, you are not the legs , chop off the legs” and therefore you are not hair, no hand, someone no leg, so you will throw the head and legs and scattered all over then where are you? Normally we think where is your ID? Do you have your ID? I look like this my photo, look into the mirror that’s me that is myself. But we just say I am not the face I am not the hand but we still put together that’s me just put all those pieces together that’s me. So this is analytical way of understanding we are not this body we are different from the body. We are owners of the body but not the body. Body belongs to me, hand belongs to me, I am not the hand it is my property head is my property whole body is my property.

So two things proprietor and the property. Body is our property then who is the proprietor? Proprietor of the head is different from the head. Proprietor exists or property sometime changes we have small property 10kg property when we took birth. Then 10 years old- 40 kg property, when we are 20 years old -80 kg property sometime. The same owner does not change whether it is a small property, small body, youth body, old body mother always addresses my son if son is a baby, is a man, is old man. So something in the body does not change but body changes and of course the big change takes place when the body dies. So, question is what is the difference between living body and dead body? What is the difference? Proprietor has left the property behind he is gone he has abandoned his property and he is no more in their inside. He has gone in search of another body then he becomes the proprietor of new body for some time then he dies and the body dies. But body is always there it appears to be living because the living force because of presence of the living force in the body as a result body seems to be living body otherwise body is always dead body.

It is made up of matter which is dead matter. If I wear gloves magine if I move my fingers, fingers of that glove also move why? Because there is someone inside those fingers in the gloves. Movement is considered sign of life and growth is also considered sign of life. Sometime the baby is born dead does that dead baby grow? No because the living force proprietor has already left. In the language of Bhagavat dharma it is called atma. So this is our ID we are atma or we are spirit soul within the body so we are not body we are in the body within the body. In one word what is difference between living body and dead body? Force that makes that particular body living has left. Ok in some other words? Dead body is inert.

People may not be philosophically very sound or knowledgeable about existence of soul but they all when someone dies they begin crying what do they say? Chala gaya (laughter) chala gaya. So who has left we always thought he is my brother, wife or my friend. The body is lying there in front of you, may in your lap or may be in the bed next to you but you are crying or declaring that he has left. So most illiterate or ignorant ladies also they make a big philosophical statement, he has left and what you do with the body now it is useless burn the body. Different religious traditions handle the dead body differently, burying the body or burning the body. Some traditions they put it out in open that vultures, birds could come and eat our feast. So our body turns into ashes or worms or stool. Three destinations of this beautiful body this is what happens ultimately turns into this three nasty products. So understand who you are and take care of yourself, understand yourself. Work for yourself work for your real self for satisfaction of someone deep within you, look after himself take good care of himself. You want to be really happy? We are talking is very basic foundational knowledge.

“Happy happy we shall be when we learn our ABC”

It is abc what we are talking is just a ABC of the religion or teachings of Gita and Bhagvat very foundational so we’ll be happy if we learn basic things. We are sprit souls do not ignore. There is lots of ignorance around why? Because the world is ignoring the soul the self totally ignorant neglecting the soul. And after studying doing the whole study of cosmos you know cosmology. So many branches of faculties are there. I am graduate, I am BA, I am BSC, I am LLB, I am MBBS like that they will have new degrees but now there are so many fancy names and even if more many more are added still world will remain ignorant.
Who we are we try to find out with the telescope. You put a slide and a drop of whatever solution and microscope and you see some creatures moving then you study and still you don’t know who you are? Oh!

Do you know boatman and scholar story? Sometimes you do that drama. Hey, boatsman big scholar addressing, do you know what cosmology is? What is that? I never heard where does it grow? Do they sell in market cosmology? And the scholar your 25% of your life is wasted. You don’t know cosmology? Oh! No I know, all I know is Hare Krishna. Something more little practical and do you know what computer science is? Oh! I don’t know I never heard your 50% of your life is wasted. So this still continued so do you know biology, botany no, you 75% of your life is wasted. Now there was a storm the boat was rocking more storm and more rocking and now it was the turn of boatsman. Hey scholar do you know swimming? (Laughter) No I never learned swimming you said my life was 75% wasted you are going to lose your 100% of your life. And there was a bigger storm and boats man
returned and scholar drowned. As the boatman swam across while chanting Hare Krishna he swam he reached the banks of the river.

So this world is also like a ocean bhava sagar and we should learn swimming to learn how to get across this ocean and not get drowned. Again again again and again leaving the body body is drowned, go for another body become properitor of another body again losing that drown another body.

Punarapi Jananam Punarapi maranam Punarapi janani jathare shayanam
iha samsare khalu dustare kripaya pare pahi murare

This prayer Shankaracarya prays, I have taken birth and I have died and drowned so many many many Please protect me please get me out of here please get me out. So we should find out who we are? We are spirit souls. And we have certain prescribed duties which cannot be done in any other species of life. No other species can read Gita and Bhagvat.

Hare Krishna temples and holy places and pilgrimages these are wholly and solely for human beings. So this life is for enlightenment not for enjoyment but enlightenment brings so much genuine enjoyment. It’s not a dry life when I arrived you stood up and all were chanting, jumping, dancing and enjoying. Sometimes you have a youth festivals they take this topics they divide group into 2 in the debate -This life is for enlightenment or enjoyment.

So any questions or comments

Question 1: How do we find out who we are?
Answer: You may enquire about it. When we don’t know something what we do? We approach someone who knows about it. We have enquiry counters everywhere so the temples are the place to make enquires or devotees of Krishna.

tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya
upadeksyanti te jnanam jnaninas tattva-darsinah [Bg 4.34]

One who is realised understood tattva the science of soul you approach him and pariprasnena you enquire from him. He can share his realisations or his experiences with you read Bhagavad Gita. So you can find out like that.

Question 2: Hare Krishna maharaja even after theoretically knowing that we are the soul why it is that most of the time we are on bodily platform we do not realise it?
Answer: So at least some times you realise it. May be not all the time but at least some time you accept you understand or you realise that you are the soul. we are talking at least That’s the good beginning when the talk touches your soul or you feel something within or you accept. It makes sense, I am a proprietor of the body. I am not a body I am proprietor of body. If this is logical accepted that could be beginning next time we think more about this and then it settles and sinks inside.

tesam pramatto nidhanam pasyann apina pasyati [SB 2.1.4]

The sastras Bhagavatam says we are so much attached to this body. So much brain washing has been done everyone has told us you are this body, you are this body, you are this body, take care of this body, take the photograph of the body. There I was in America side and the border of Canada was not far, someone in America said Maharaja that is America that is Canada very thin boarder it hardly makes any difference. What is a difference between Canada? Is it but we are taught in the schools you are not Canadian you are American then across the border in Canada you are Canadian boy you are not American. So this kind of
brain washing, you are this and we look at the mirror and we love so much we had so much and we try to solidify that illusion we are trying to look better and all make up. And you solidify your illusion your ignorance. Everyone else is doing that also then you come to Hare Krishna temple.

Every other person told you are the body, you are this body, you are this body, you are this body and then one morning someone tells, oh you are not this body! What? What do you mean I am not this body? It comes as big surprise. We never hear we never ever hear this and then you open Bhagavad Gita or we hear in satsanga very basic foundational information. So we hear life after life after life after life after we always thought we were this body. So this was conditioning we are conditioned to think.

For some years you think I am baby, I am baby but soon you young man and young man then you are lying in a bed and old you are changing body is changing. And soon after few years no no I am not this body is changing but something within you does not change and after that some years ago we were printing one article well how I (My self Lokanath Swam) came to Krishna Consciousness? We were looking for some photographs my photographs when I was a child then young man and college students. So they gathered some photographs they presented me one group photo with friends while I was studying. They gave me the photograph said you are in this group. And I spend lot of time and I could not filled out which one of this is my is it me and after quite some time I approved yes that’s me.

So I forget how I looked at looked like 40 years ago. I was a college student 40years ago 1971 there is a photograph where I could know connect myself. So much change has taken place in the body. I was looking at myself and looking at the photograph that’s not me. So like this if we think it is making sense but we never think like that. So this is like a stepping out of the routine of that circle. Coming here is coming outside stop and think before you proceed in association of those who know this science realised science to different degree spend time with them and you realise it for yourself it is to be realised by you ultimately others could share there realisation knowledge with you but that you have to grab it take it and realise it yourself.

Question: It is said body changes but proprietor doesn’t changes but when body is a baby then anything different when our own body grows?
Answer: The body is one kind of creation of the creator and our parents are not exactly the creators although they become some kind of cause or instrument but there is a creator Brahma is such person. The physical body is made up of matter earth, air, water, fire, ether. These are pancha mahabhutas -five elements. Within that body there is another body called subtle body made up of mind, intelligence and false ego and within that is yourself atma. So soul is covered by subtle body and another covering of the gross body. Creator is creating and making your body grow through the agency of nature or nature but behind the nature is a person God or Brahma. So balavastha generally all the children must play so this mentality of the child of wanting to play is also creation. His mind is created like that.

balavastha krida sakta yuvavstha taruni rakta

As soon as you are young man you are looking for young women this is also creation.

vrdhhavastha chinta magna

Most of the old people have anxiety. Children they never worry they are just happy they play. So as soon as body grows boyhood and then youth hood the transition of different hormones. I don’t know technically different things. Also we grow as a result we think differently you are made to think like that that’s part of the creation. Fear of death – Bhagvatam says the fear of death this is a creation of Brahma. The sense of false proprietorship we all have this false sense of proprietorship I am this or this belongs to me this proprietorships, sense of proprietorship we are cheating ourselves, keeping ourselves
in ignorance this also another creation of brahma. So like that not only you are given a body but you are also given that kind of intelligence and false ego.

prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah
ahankara-vimudhatma kartaham iti manyate (BG 3.27)

Krishna says in Bhagvad gita that kartaaham- I am the doer. Everyone thinks I the doer I am I did it. But he does not know Krishna says that someone else is getting that thing done through him. Someone else is the doer although because of illusion that person think I am the doer. Like in the puppet show puppets are dancing but the puppets are not dancing on their own accord there is a puppet master behind. Strings are attached to his finger and the head of the puppets, legs of the puppet move. You don’t see, you only see that show of the puppet one who is intelligent, elderly, matured he knows behind this there is a puppeteer. So behind whatever dance we do we are controlled again by different moods Goodness. Someone is controlled by mood of goodness, someone is controlled by mood of passion, someone is controlled by mood of ignorance and then you mix this. From three basic colours you get all colours right.

So that three moods material nature by mixing so many formulations and combinations and wide variety also what we do again same family we have five brother, three brothers, same family, same parents, same so many things but each child acts differently even in same age. Because there past is different previous life,
previous life and the impressions of those previous lives lie in our mind. Mind is a store, storage and those things from to this to do that and then higher authorities and jumps in higher authorities they know who you are? What your past is? What is your future? So things unfold in due course of time.

Question 4: Why are we separated from Krishna and sent to this material world?
Answer: How do we get here? What did we do for down fall? What is wrong? These questions are not very easy to understand but quickly we could say that Lord is described as Abhigya and svarat.

Abhigya means fully cognizant and svarat means God is independent and we being parts and parcels of the God we also have this independent nature of being independent. Then sometimes that part and parcel of God Krishna that living entity does miss use of that independence and turns away from God and then as a result he ends up in material existence. Have you said that more important is not how we got here? But more important is how to get out of here? If sometimes we fall in deep dark well what is more important to understand what time you have fell down? (laughter) What is a cause? Who pushed me here? Are this questions important or how could I get out of here? How could I get out of here? What will you say? I all these questions and debate you’ll be losing more time. So, work on how to go back to Krishna? How to join Him again? And be with Him again? This is possible in this human form of life. So that’s cut off the human form of life and also need some inquisitive enquiry how do I find how do I know I am spirit soul?

arto jijnasur artharthi jnani ca bharatarsabha [BG 7.16]

Four kinds of people come to the Lord. Lord says in Bhagavad Gita.
arto -someone in distress
artharthi-someone in need of money turns to God
jnani– some knowledgable person
jijnasu – inquisitive

And then we come in contact with right people at the right time those who know the science. Science of soul, Science of God, science of self-realization , then it is completed human birth. We have desire to know and you take that step make that
connection with those who know then you are on the path of progress.

Question 5: How do we know that person is bonafide persons, correct person, because there are so many people who publicize this?

Answer: The qualities, qualification, character of such persons are described by the Lord. Trust the Lord they are in Bhagavad Gita they are authoritative statement. So, before you go for buying the gold you should know difference between gold and the other metals look like gold. Copper, brass and gold. Just because copper looks, brass looks like gold doesn’t mean it is gold. We need to know if you don’t want to be cheated you should know what is gold? Difference between this and that.

Question 6: I would like to know why Hare Krishna Mantra, why not some other mantra? Does it have any relation like about this chanting Hare Krishna mantra has any relation about who we are?

Answer: Hare Krishna means Radhe Krishna, Radha Krishna. So, if you study sastras you will find out comprehensive knowledge of who is who and you come to conclusion that Radha Krishna are source of all. Everything that exists including many incarnations avatars Krishna is the source.

aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate [BG 10.8]

Only Krishna could make such a clams and this has been accepted by so many authorities. Of course already Krishna says this and that’s enough after this Krishna says what He speaks is nothing but the truth.

sarvam etad rtam manye yan mam vadasi kesava [BG 10.14]

Well that dialogue was on Arjuna. Arjuna Says,” Oh all that you are speaking my Lord is truth, and I accept that as it is.”

param brahma param dhama pavitram paramam bhavan (BG10.12)

You are the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So, that’s Radha Krishna. So, Hare Krishna means Radha Krishna. So, when you say Radha Krishna you are watering the root of the tree not the trunk of the tree or branches. Secondary, territory all the branches the leave, the fruits or the flowers, everything is nourished. Krishna is like that root or source. So, we go to the source we’ll water, we serve, we cultivate and everything is satisfied. And by chanting Hare Krishna you will realize. Chanter is the soul your lips, mouth doesn’t chant. Goal is not to send your mouth back to Vaikuntha it will never go never get there but the chanter. Unless someone in the microphone speaks, the speaker doesn’t speak.

So, the point is mouth is a speaker, there is a speaker mouth but, behind this speaker is a person and that’s the soul. So, when you chant Hare Krishna the chanter is the soul. One who chants is a soul and Hare Krishna is Krishna or God and when we chant with devotion that is bhakti in other words the soul is bhakta and Hare Krishna is Bhagavan and the process is bhakti devotion. So there is a realization by chanting Hare Krishna chanter realizes ‘ I am soul, I am part and parcel of Krishna, servant of Krishna.’ That is also the mood that is cultivated while chanting. Ok so we will stop here. (Applaud).

Disappearance day of Sri Ramananda Raya

Disappearance day of Sri Ramananda Raya
29052013 Vrndavan
svabhavika prema donhara udaya karila
dunha alingiya dunhe bhumite padila [CC Madhya Lila 8.23]

So translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada ki …jai.

Translation: Their natural love for each other was awakened in them both and they embraced and fell to the ground.
So these two are Ramananda Raya and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Purport : Srila Ramananda Raya was an incarnation of the gopi Visakha. Since Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was Lord Krishna Himself, there was naturally an awakening of love between Visakha and Krishna. Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu is the combination of Srimati Radharani and Krishna. The gopi Visakha is a principal gopi assisting Srimati Radharani. Thus the natural love between Ramananda Raya and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu awakened as they embraced.

This happened on the banks of Godavari at a place called Kovvur. We had an opportunity; Srila Prabhupada also went there in ’72. There’s a Gaudiya Math temple at this place and they also claim that this is the Vrndavan of the South.

As Krishna and Radha appeared here in North India and Vrndavan and there is another place, that is on the bank of the Godavari also Radha and Krishna appeared. You will be hearing or you have heard, you will be reminded of Radha Krishna’s appearance at that particular place.

So Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu is starting His travels of South India and prior to His departure from Jagannath Puri, Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya says “My dear Lord, when you are in Andhra Pradesh you please meet this Ramananda Raya. Don’t miss him, my humble appeal that you kindly meet him.”

Although born in a sudra family and now as a governor or Kshatriya, do not neglect him. Don’t stay away from him. Please see him because anyone who knows the mellows, the rasas. He is a great rasik and he is a rasagya – he is a knower of the rasas. He is distinguished amongst the rasagyas – he’s the topmost, so please see him.

So Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu travelling and travelling, He has come to the banks of the Godavari and of course Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu considered that Godavari to be..

Sri Yamuna maiya ki… Jai!

That is our Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. For Him every river is Yamuna. And there was a little forest also, around where he was. ‘Oh this is Vrndavan! If this is Yamuna then this is Vrndavan. So Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu danced and danced in ecstasy and then after quite sometime He crossed Godavari and now He’s,

gha?a chadi' kata-dure jala-sannidhane
vasi' prabhu kare krsna-nama-sankirtane [CC Madhya Lila 8.13]

For a long time he did his Krishna nama sankirtana.

hena-kale dolaya cadi' ramananda raya
snana karibare aila, bajana bajaya [CC Madhya Lila 8.14]

And there comes Ramananda Raya. He is in a palanquin. He is not an ordinary person he is a governor. He doesn’t walk like ordinary creatures. He is being carried in a palanquin and there is also bajana bajaya – the musical instruments are also being played and mantras are also chanted.

tanra sange bahu aila vaidika brahmana
vidhi-mate kaila tenho snanadi-tarpana [CC Madhya Lila 8.15]

He is accompanied by learned Brahmanas, pandits, purohits are there and they are chanting
mantras and the snana- the bathing of governor is done with all the Vedic rituals, all the
mantras everything is done perfectly.

prabhu tanre dekhi' janila–ei rama-raya
tanhare milite prabhura mana u?hi' dhaya [CC Madhya Lila 8.16]

Caitanya Mahaprabhu looked at the person in the palanquin and he thought ‘he is the one.
He must be Ramananda Raya.’

prabhu tanre dekhi' janila–ei rama-raya

And when He saw Ramananda Raya there in the palanquin, He wanted to run or His mind and heart started running towards Ramananda Raya.

tathapi dhairya dhari' prabhu rahila vasiya [CC Madhya Lila 8.17]

He controlled himself ‘Oh I am a sannyasi. I should be more serious, grave not chanchal. I should not be the first one to run up to him. So He stood where He was.

ramananda aila apurva sannyasi dekhiya

Then as Caitanya Mahaprabhu had seen Ramananda Raya, Ramananda Raya had seen Caitanya Mahaprabhu. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu stood there but Ramananda Raya started, he not only started but he ran towards Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Apurva sannyasi, sannyasi like Him, well he had never ever seen any sannyasi like this one.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu, sannyasi.
surya-sata-sama kanti, aruna vasana

So what was the special feature of this sannyasi? He was aruna vasana – He was as brilliant as the sun. He was wearing saffron robes.

subalita prakanda deha, kamala-locana [CC Madhya Lila 8.18]

He was well built, very tall, how much tall? You have seen Panca-Tattva in Mayapur? That is life size Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Don’t think ISKCON just exaggerated, just made Caitanya Mahaprabhu bigger in size. There’s no dearth of funds so they added some more extra kilos of some dhatus. So that size Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

subalita prakanda deha, kamala-locana

And lotus eyed sannyasi Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu

dekhiya tanhara mane haila camatkara
asiya karila dandavat namaskara [CC Madhya Lila 8.19]

And as he was coming closer, he threw himself at the lotus feet of Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

u?hi' prabhu kahe,–u?ha, kaha 'krsna' 'krsna'

Why are you offering obeisances? Get up, stand up and say Krishna Krishna…..Why are you just sitting there? He’s offering obeisances and we are just sitting, so say Krishna Krishna.

tare alingite prabhura hrdaya satrsna [CC Madhya Lila 8.20]

And then they were very eager for what? They were thirsty – satrsna to embrace each other. Thirsty, very eager.

tathapi puchila,–tumi raya ramananda?

Caitanya Mahaprabhu before embracing that person – He just wanted to make sure that this person was Ramananda Raya. He did not want to offer his obeisances to some wrong person. He was kind of sure but why not confirm?

So he asked are you Ramananda Raya? Are you Ramananda Raya?

tenho kahe,–sei hana dasa sudra manda [CC Madhya Lila 8.21]

Aha, yes that’s me – Sudra. I am low-born, dull headed. Yes that’s me, that’s me. Yes that’s Ramananda, that’s the one.

tabe tare kaila prabhu drdha alingana

So now it’s confirmed, he is Ramananda Raya and Mahaprabhu has stepped forward and gave a deep embrace to Ramananda Raya.

premavese prabhu-bhrtya donhe acetana [CC Madhya Lila 8.22]

And as their bodies have touched, ecstasy has aroused and they have lost all external consciousness -acetana as if nothing else exists. They’re totally oblivious to all external surroundings.

svabhavika prema donhara udaya karila

That is the verse. Now you know what is happening and where it is happening, this is the context.

svabhavika prema donhara udaya karila

Their natural affection, love for each other aroused.

dunha alingiya dunhe bhumite padila

As they are in a state of that embrace and as they have lost all external consciousness, they don’t know whether they are sleeping. There is another way to become lost, not oblivious to the surrounding, just go deep sleep and you don’t know whether there is a class going on or that today is the disappearance day of Ramananda Raya’s. Off, gone off like acetana – jada, dead.

Just the opposite of that spiritual ecstasy and they could also be losing all external consciousness. So that has happened to these two prabhus and they were not aware ‘Oh are we standing or..?’ So they lost the balance and they just fell down on the ground. And well, so this is this introduction to Ramananda Raya. You could see him you could smell; you could touch that Ramananda Raya. So this is a video, this Caitanaya Caritamrta. Krishna Das Kaviraj has complied, described that, captured those moments those rare times.

Are you taking notes? Blow by blow and then next then next paint the picture. We should extend the picture and then it would be 3D – three dimensional. As you hear you forget where you are and you just go back into that 500 year old, not old – fresh. It never becomes old. Old is gold. So this is a golden opportunity for us to read through and be there. What
else is happening?

stambha, sveda, asru, kampa, pulaka, vaivarnya

All these symptoms are visible as if Krishnadas Kaviraj is looking at a stambha – like a motionless, no movement. Sveda- perspiring, perspiration. He’s taking note of asru – tears gliding down the cheeks. Pulaka, trembling. The soul is touching the Supreme soul then all these symptoms manifest.

It’s not the body touching the body. It is the soul touching the Supersoul. When that yoga, that link occurs then all these symptoms.

dunhara mukhete suni' gadgada 'krsna' varna [CC Madhya Lila 8.24]

And there voices choked up but some sound could be heard of {slowly} Krishna, Krishna, Krishna. Krishna varna gadgada

dekhiya brahmana-ganera haila camatkara
vaidika brahmana saba karena vicara [CC Madhya Lila 8.25]

So while these two were embracing and they have fallen down on the ground and they were rolling on the ground, the Vedic brahmanas are looking at this scene and what are their thoughts?

ei ta' sannyasira teja dekhi brahma-sama

‘Look, look! This sannyasi’s brilliant, effulgent as Brahman.’

sudre alingiya kene karena krandana [CC Madhya Lila 8.26]

But why is such an exalted sannyasi embracing sudra? He should be crying and whatnot they are seeing, rolling on the ground? Not understanding. First not understanding Ramananda Raya. Going for externals. ‘Oh! He is Sudra, we know. He is born in a Sudra family and he is now governor administrator. Why should a sannyasi be touching him, embracing him?

ei maharaja–maha-pandita, gambhira
sannyasira sparse matta ha-ila asthira [CC Madhya Lila 8.27]

And then they also said, give him some credit, some qualification ‘our maharaja, Ramananada Raya, he’s a grave person. Normally he’s very grave he’s known for his gravity and he’s learned also, but why is he by touching the sannyasi becoming asthira, canchala – unsteady and is no more grave. This is not activity of a learned person, embracing and crying and rolling on the ground and perspiration.

ei-mata vipra-gana bhave mane mana
vijatiya loka dekhi, prabhu kaila sa?varana [CC Madhya Lila 8.28]

Immediately as Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Ramananda Raya they have taken note, the Vedic brahmanas they are called vijatiyas – vajiti or vijatiyas. They have no adhikar, they don’t belong to this realm. They don’t belong to this ream. This is not their cup of tea, say the Lord. They’re outcastes. Ramananda Raya has taken note ‘they are looking at us’ immediately they have withdrawn all this – they have suppressed, subdued their emotions.

All this ecstatic feelings. Preaching to the faithless. They are faithless; they don’t have faith so therefore these things should not be revealed unto them. Certainly they have already started blaspheming ‘what kind of sannyasi, what kind of governor is he?’ So immediately they have wound up their emotions, externally at least so they are not exhibiting.

sustha haña dunhe sei sthanete vasila

And then both of them sat down.

tabe hasi' mahaprabhu kahite lagila [CC Madhya Lila 8.29]

There was some laughing and humour and jokes and lighter moments are being shared.

'sarvabhauma bhattacarya kahila tomara gune

tomare milite more karila yatane [CC Madhya Lila 8.30]

I was asked to see you by Sarvabhauma bhattacarya, and then well I was looking for you. And then Mahaprabhu says ‘I did not have any extra endeavour to find you. Luckily, naturally I have found you here.

And Ramananda Raya says ‘Oh that Sarvabhauma bhattacarya, he is so kind, he is so kind. When I am with him he exhibits or expresses his kindness. He is away from me-I am here, he is in Jagannath Puri but he is always thinking of my welfare and that’s why he has remembered me and asked you to see me.

toma milibare mora etha agamana
bhala haila, anayase pailun darasana' [CC Madhya Lila 8.31]

‘I am untouchable, I am this I am that’ Ramananda Raya says. That Sarvabhauma bhattacarya very kindly directed you to see me and some talks like that- very confidential.

guhyam akhyati prcchati is going on.

kahan tumi–saksat isvara narayana

You are Narayan

kahan muni–raja-sevi visayi sudradhama [CC Madhya Lila 8.35]

I am just nobody. I am just fallen and sudra, lowborn.

mora sparse na karile ghrna, veda-bhaya [CC Madhya Lila 8.36]

In fact it is not proper, you are sannyasi, you are Brahmin and you have seen me – not only seen but you have touched me. So this is not right thing for you to do. So this is going on.

trinad api sunicena taror api sahishnuna
amanina manadena kirtaniyah sada harihi

The glaring example of trnad api sunicena is our Ramananda Raya ki …..jai!

So then soon one Brahmin stepped forward and invited Caitanya Mahaprabhu to come to his home and take lunch, bhiksha. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu goes to this brahmin’s place and takes prasad. Now they will be meeting, they spend quite many days meeting each other Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Ramananda Raya.

This whole chapter talks between Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Ramananda Raya so they have set the scene. So the talk is about to begin and class is about to end, we’ll be setting the scene. First chapter of Bhagavad Gita ‘setting the scene’ and then begins the dialogue. The first canto of Bhagavatam is setting the scene and then in the second canto Sukadeva Goswami begins Om Namo Bhagavate. So like that.

That is for you to do the homework, to study these talks. Read through and study these talks between Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Ramananda Raya, very confidential subject matters.

Caitanya caritamrta becomes very confidential, it is not for neophytes. First you study Bhagavad gita then you study Srimad Bhagavatam and then you enter Caitanya Caritamrta. Why is that? Because of the nature of these talks between Ramananda Raya and Caitanya Mahaprabhu and amongst other talks and subject matters, especially in the Madhya Lila here and then in Antya Lila in Jagannath Puri, the talks are confidential. The talks of Radha Krishna become confidential and then Madhurya Rasa, this is the essence of everything and the talks between Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Ramananda Raya are the talks between Radha and Krishna, talks of Radha and Krishna. What is happening here is, this is our Ramananda Raya. Although they are both talking, Caitanya Mahaprabhu becomes student He is the audience and the speaker is Ramananda Raya. He gets Ramananda Raya to
speak and Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu is relishing those talks.

What is the most confidential, what is best thing to do? The dialogue is also there starting with,

yat karosi yad asnasi yaj juhosi

No, no that’s external. Sarva-dharman parityajya that is external. Varnashram dharma that is external, go ahead talk more. That is external and then this and that. Then dasya bhava, no – more and then sakhya, vatsalya and madhurya and then he was there settled,

‘Talk more, talk more.’ Ramananda Raya talks the prema vivarta vilas is a compilation of Ramananda Raya and he is talking.
Radharani looking to the tamal tree, and She mistook that as Krishna and She is rushing and embracing the tamal tree. So there is misunderstanding. This is called vivarta. Srila Prabhupada is explaining in the section here, in the purports, understanding one for the other. All these transformations, spiritual transformations of the top level and Radha and
Krishna topics.

So day after day they meet and all night long. They have sleepless night when they are talking. Their Krishna katha is Radha Krishna katha. So during the stay, the meeting and stay during their talks here at Kovvur at the banks of Godavari, Caitanya Mahaprabhu one time, Ramananda Raya says ‘I used to see you as a sannyasi with a golden complexion but what is this, what am I seeing now? Your complexion has changed! You are looking no more like Gaurasundar but you are looking like Shyamsundar.’ He was seeing Shyamsundar. ‘Which one are you? I saw you as golden complexion sannyasi is that your identity or I am seeing you now, is this your identity? Who are you? Which one are you? And then Caitanya Mahaprabhu, then He quotes that verse.

sthavara-jangama dekhe, na dekhe tara murti
sarvatra haya nija ista-deva-sphurti

No, no it is not my fault. I don’t know. Because your worshipable deity is Krishna so persons who worship the deity, they’re exalted, ecstatic, emotional devotional state they only see their worshipable deity. They do not see – sthavara-jangama dekhe. Al though they see sthavara-jangama – some stationary objects, moving objects or persona. Although so much is happening around them, but they don’t see nothing else but their mind is always fixed on ista-deva-sphurti. They get inspiration and they see their worshipable Lord everywhere, so that is what is happening with you. It’s not my fault, I am the same. Your worshipable deity is Shyamsundar, so you are seeing Shyamsundar.

‘No, no, no, no – so Ramananda Raya, he is cleaning his eyes ‘what am I seeing?’ So he is seeing Shyamsundar. Then Sri Krishna in the presence of Vishakha, Krishna could not hide. He is revealing Himself to Vishakha as Krishna and then soon as Radha and Krishna. From Caitanya Mahaprabhu he is seeing Shyamsundar and then Sri Krishna Caitanya Radha Krishna nahi anya
So this is the Lord, this is a demonstration of that – Sri Krishna Caitanya Radha Krishna nahi anya.

Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu is non-different from Radha and Krishna and this fact was revealed unto Ramananda Raya. Only Ramananda Raya had such darshan, such an opportunity to see Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu as Radha and Krishna. Then Caitanya Mahaprabhu finally left South India, goes all over Tamil Nadu and Kerela and Karnataka and comes to Maharashtra and goes to Pandharpur and Nasik. He is at the source of Godavari river. He has collected Brahma Samhita at Adi Keshva temple near Kanyakumari and Krishna karnamrita on the confluence of Krishna-Vena River in Maharashtra.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu finally is on the way back to Jagannath Puri. He is in the northern province of Hyderabad it is described that He comes to Kalinga Desh, he comes to Kalinga country then He comes to Vidyanagar. This is where He meets Ramananda Raya once again and Ramananda Raya is again delighted to see Caitanya Mahaprabhu. We just went through this description, both are embraced in ecstasy and falling on the ground and then somehow managed sitting down and talking.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu says ‘Here, I have bought these two scriptures for you. This is Brahma Samhita and take this Krishna karnamrita. You remember, you were talking of those siddhantas and that tattva. All that you shared with Me is supported by these two scriptures.’ Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu says. Ramananda Raya makes a copy – it’s not a photocopy. He kept those two scriptures for himself. News spread that Caitanya Mahaprabhu is back in town.

More public started coming and then Ramananda Raya left, leaving Caitanya Mahaprabhu with all the assembled citizens. And then the citizens go away and again Ramananda Raya and Caitanya Mahaprabhu again just spend five to seven days talking about Krishna – Krishna katha.

During those talks one day, Ramananda Raya said- before Caitanya Mahaprabhu had left in fact, earlier first visit, he had advised him ‘you should leave this place. Leave your job and go to Jagannath Puri. I will be touring around and will return to Jagannath Puri. I would like to see you there and we will talk more of Krishna katha. So Ramananda Raya said ‘I have
applied. I have submitted my resignation and king Prataparudra has kindly accepted my resignation and I should be coming to Puri very soon. And Caitanya Mahaprabhu ‘Aaah’ in fact I had come back to you to make sure you do that. It’s good that you have the permission of the king to give up this post.’

So he says, the Lord, ‘Let’s go now, let’s go.’ Ramananda Raya says ‘no, no. When I go I’m not like you, a sannyasi. There’ll be horses, there’ll be elephants, there’ll be chariots – so much sounds and roaring of the animals and the sounds.. ‘So you proceed and I will soon join you.’ So that is what happened, Caitanya Mahaprabhu proceeded towards Jagannath Puri and then He arrived and now He was staying at Kasi Mishra’s home. Then before Ramananda Raya comes, Bhavananda had arrived with his four sons. Bhavananda is the father of Ramananda Raya and he wanted to surrender himself and his sons ‘We are at your disposal. Here is Vaninath. Here is Vaninath, my son. So he could do personal service to you and other sons are there.’ So Caitanya Mahaprabhu, said ‘Please do not consider me outsider. And then Caitanya Mahaprabhu ‘No, no. I know you are Pandu.’
Bhavananda Raya ‘you are Pandu and your sons are all five pandavas and your wife is Kunti.

And Ramananda Raya is Arjuna.’ He is called Arjuna and he is also supposed to be Arjuna and he is also supposed to be Vishkha Gopi.

So Caitanya Mahaprabhu kept one son and He said ‘your another son will be joining me very shortly Ramananda Raya. So keep one son. Vaninath Pattanayaka. There is also another Vaninath – Dvija Vaninath, brotherof Gadadhar Pandit. So there’s two Vaninaths. So Bhavananda Raya had returned with his other three sons, he was dedicating his life from wherever he would reside in his kingdom.

So then Ramananda Raya also joined Caitanya Mahaprabhu in Jagannath Puri along with Swarupa Damodar. Swarupa Damodar and Ramananda Raya they become the team – one is Lalita and the other one is Visakha. Naturally they are a team. So during the final pastimes in Jagannath Puri when the Lord is residing at Gambhira, these two devotees are always, always with Him, Swarupa Damodar and Ramananda Raya.

This is the time Caitanya Mahaprabhu,

samar pihitum unnata ujjwala rasam

Caitanya Mahaprabhu has appeared to relish and deliver unnata ujjwala rasa, the topmost mellow of Madhurya rasa that Caitanya Mahaprabhu is experiencing being Radharani. As Krishna He has done ‘dharma samstha panarthaya sambhavaami yuge yuge.’ He has spread the holy name,

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

So He is Krishna and He is Radharani. After His Krishna role dharma samstha panarthaya, South India tour and spreading, propagating the holy name, now He is there for eighteen years. Now He is always in Radha bhava.

Radha-bhava dyuti suvalitam naumi krishna-svarupam

He is there in the mood and in the emotions of Radharani. So that Caitanya in the mood of Radha is accompanied by Swarupa Damodara and Ramananda Raya. So all the time, or most of the time Swarupa Damodara he does some singing of appropriate songs and prayers to correspond the emotion of emotional feeling of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

So he hears the songs sung by Swarupa Damodara and He listens to the talks of Ramananda Raya. Even during the final chapter of Caitanya Caritamrta, chapter called Siksastakam, Caitanya Mahaprabhu is reciting ceto-darpana-marjana? and all those verse after verse.

Then He would give His own talk. He would say a verse and then He would give His own comments.

He would stay with these two brothers, Ramananda Raya and SwarupA Damodar and all night long Caitanya Mahaprabhu is just talking, sharing His emotions. One night one verse or he would go from verse to verse, talking commenting. That Ramananada Raya he wrote one drama, one natak called Jagannath Vallabha Natak. Ramananda Raya was not only an author, writer of this drama but then he was also the director. He was also the make-up man. The young girls they used to enact this drama of Jagannath Vallabha drama and Ramananda Raya he used to do make-up and before that the bathing and dressing all these young girls and acting these pastimes in that drama.

Ramananda Raya had zero agitation or disturbance in his mind. ‘Even some sannyasis they look at a wooden doll of a woman, they are agitated but look at my Ramananda Raya. He is undisturbed. These young girls are not wooden dolls, they are living girls, living moving but he is undisturbed. That shows he is always absorbed in the topmost mellow in Radha and Krishna and not bothered by these external forms, what he sees and what he touches.’ Caitanya Mahaprabhu used to discuss most confidential topics with three and a half persons it is said. One off those persons was Swarupa Damodara. The other person was Ramananda Raya, the third person was Sikhi Mahiti. The fourth person was sister of Sikhi Mahati called Madhavi but she was a woman so she is considered half in the grand total.

So one plus one two plus one three. Plus not one, but one and half. So this is how three and half persons Mahaprabhu would talk of the most confidential topics, Ramananda Raya is one of them.

Ramananda Raya tirobhava tithi mahotsava ki …jai

So on this day he departed and of course he must have returned to Vrndavan, he is Vishakha sakhi so where else would he go? From that pastime, Caitanya Mahaprabhu pastimes he is then returning to Caitanya Mahaprabhu pastimes. But why say return? That pastime is also eternal there in Jagannath Puri. So he is Vishakha here and Vishakha is Ramananada Raya. They’re eternally in the pastimes of Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Someone is trying to raise their hands – yes?

Question: The discussion between Ramananda Raya and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was going on and then the topic of daivi varnasrama system has come. I don’t understand from where this concept of daivi varnashrama system?

Answer: Well, Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s stand was ‘I’m not Brahmachari, Grihastha, this that.

naham vipro.. Gopi-bhartur pada-kamalayor dasa-dasa-dasanudasah

So when talking of the constitutional position and our position in the spiritual sky, we are also beyond- we give the name ‘varnasram.’ We kind of spiritualise, Krishnise by saying ‘Daivi Varnasram’ but still, Varna and Asram.

catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma-vibhagasah [BG 4.13]

Krishna says in Bhagavad gita that i am the creator the founder of this varna and asram, and what is the basis of this varnasram? it’s catur varnyam, its guna karma. guna means sattva guna, rajo guna, tamo guna. brahim is sattvik and ksatriyas like that and sudra are full of tamo guna. so first you decide which varna you belong to and then you have decided which
asram you go for. If you’re brahmin then you could be brahmin or you could be belonging to all the asrams -brahmacari, grihastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa for a brahmin.

If you are Ksatriya only three asrams, if you are Vaisya only two asrams. If you are sudra then your first and last ashram is grihastha ashram one ashram. So whole foundation of this varnashram is varna the colour – Sattva Guna is this colour.

Also there are colours for each gunas, each of the three orders of material nature. And saying they’re also Varna- Varna means colour. Varna also meaning the Gunas – Rajas, Sattva, Tamo. So we try to make the best use of a bad bargain as they say. Varnashram is kind of a bad bargain but make the best use by making it daivi.

It should be followed as much as possible but in the spiritual sky. Which is trai gunya.

trai-gunya-visaya veda nistrai-gunyo bhavarjuna

Even Krishna says ‘these topics in the Vedas you will find they are full of these gunas. Trai-

gunya-visaya veda nistrai-gunyo bhavarjuna – we should become transcendental to these three modes of material nature.

So as we have body and we have mind and we have upbringing, so we belong to this varna that asram so we should go even higher. Even that is external. ‘Oh that is external. Go forward or talk of something higher. Talk of something higher, go higher go higher go higher.’ Varnashram is left way behind ‘higher, higher.’

Question: As far as we are in the line of Rupanuga, so can we call Radharani as our mother?

Answer: tumhi ho mata tumhi ho pita tumhi ho bandhu tumhi ho sakha- maha sarva devo devah. Krishna is father, mother brother. He is all in all. So Radha and Krishna are not two, they are one.

ekatmanav api bhuvi pura deha-bhedam gatau tau

Caitanya Caritamrta in the very beginning says, ekatma – Radha and Krishna are one atma, one spirit but at some point pura- long long time ago, Deha bhedau- from one they became two. Then the same verse the next line says ‘and then five hundred years ago they again became one. They’re one, they became two and they are one again so whatever is Krishna, the same is Radha. So she looks like a mother, you could call ‘mother of devotion.

Question: She is in Parakiya Rasa so if we call her as a mother then what is the connection between this Parakiya Rasa?

Answer: So Parakiya Bhava, the Lord expands Himself and he plays with His, that form – Radharani. Not just He expands and becomes Radharani and other expansions but also He expands and becomes us. We are also His expansions, we are also his parts and parcels so we are meant for His enjoyment. So He enjoys Radha, He enjoys others and He also enjoys us. We are meant for His enjoyment and with Radharani, and the kind of pleasure that she gives is the topmost pleasure Hladini Shakti. We also give little pleasure but Radharani gives most of the pleasure, the topmost pleasure the Lord derives in company of Radharani.

So this is Parakiya bhava and Svakiya is in Dwaraka, Svakiya yes, from Krishna comes Radha from Radha come all this Mahishis of Dwaraka. They expand and become Lakhsmis. And then Krishna is expanding also and he’s become Vishnu or Narayana. Lakshmi Narayana and he’s also Dwarkadhish. His forms are expanding and Radha is also expanding and all these forms are corresponding Shakti and Shaktimana. Answer: There is reciprocation of these pastimes. Yes, Caitanya Mahaprabhu is a combination of both forms Radha and Krishna.

Question: Some reason why he combined both forms sri-radhayah pranaya-mahima. So Ramananda Raya is similarly the combined form of Vishakha and Arjuna. So is there any reason why?

Answer: I’m not sure. We find such personalities. Nanda Maharaja is also not one person but is two. Two in one – so here with Ramananda Raya we also see he is son of Bhavananda and all his sons are Pandavas and Ramananda Raya is Arjuna and he is also another dimension, another designation Vishakha. As Arjuna, as administrator, he has become governor and this role is over so now to Vishakha. Vishakha role begins as he meets Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

So from the time Ramananda Raya’s meeting with Caitanya Mahaprabhu that Arjuna role is in the background and now he is acting like Vishakha. ‘Okay now you come to Jagannath Puri. Come as Vishakha.’

Even the talks here going on, on the banks of Godavari are also like. In the presence of Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu is also like he is Vishakha. Earlier he was administrator, governor so Ksatriya role which Arjuna also had. So something could be said like that – Arjuna. Here’s Arjuna and now it’s Vishakha.

Question: So embracing is also Sakhya Rasa, when Caitanya Mahaprabhu embraced Ramananda Raya – Sakhya Rasa?

Answer: So this is Achintya, we say Achintya. We leave it aside. We don’t fight or debate or speculate.

Okay

Nitai Gaura Premanande Hari Haribol.

Glories of Lord Parasurama

Glories of Lord Parasurama

Mayapur

Haribol everybody, Hare Krsna.

Welcome and Thank you for joining us. Hari hari, and those who have joined include some very senior exalted vaisnavas, making my job difficult talking in their presence. But I pray unto them also, “Please bless me, give me strength. So, I could talk something worthwhile”.

Reading from canto 9, chapter 16, text number 6. So, to get to the sixth verse we have to read 5 previous verses.

Jamadagni then ordered his youngest son, Parasurama, to kill his brothers, who had disobeyed this order, and his mother, who had mentally committed adultery. Lord Parasurama, knowing the power of his father, who was practiced in meditation and austerity, killed his mother and broth ers immediately.

Gaur premanande hari hari bol!

Sri Krsna Caitanya, Help! It is also said, if you remember the lotus feet of Gauranga, then duskaram sukaram bhavet something that is very difficult to do, becomes damn easy to do. duskaram sukaram bhavet. But if you forget the lotus feet of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, then even damn easy thing becomes most difficult thing to do. So, I want to remember Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s lotus feet as I proceed to talk.

So, a little back tracking. This is just a beginning of new chapter, so a little review of the previous chapter or remembering some highlights of the previous chapter or summary of the previous chapter. Whatever you may want to call.

When Kartavirya Arjuna arrived in Jamadagni’s asrama and took away Kamadhenu, that time Parasurama, we will have to say Lord Parasurama. That chapter is entitled as ‘Warrior incarnation of the Lord.’ Somehow that was getting my attention. Lords warrior incarnation. Different varieties of incarnations and this was the warrior incarnation of the Lord. So, He was out of station when Kartavirya Arjuna had come and taken Kamadhenu forcibly, upon arrival he found out what had transpired. And then He wanted to take action. He could not tolerate injustice done. Gone to the capital of Kartavirya Arjuna. Kartavirya Arjuna did not fight himself, but he employed 17 aksauhini divisions to fight with Parasurama. Parasurama on one side and 17 aksauhini divisions on the other side. That’s a lot of army.

Some are on the back of the elephants, some are on the chariots, some are on the back of horses, some foot soldiers. The scriptures call it Caturangi Sena. The army has four kinds of army men as I said that some on the back of horses, chariots, elephants and some are walking. So big number and this was like in Kurukshetra there was 18 aksauhini divisions, so just one less. Those many aksauhini divisions sena or army Parasurama fought with single handedly and swiftly and His arms and weapons were acting swiftly like a mind and a wind it says. And he annihilated all. All went flat.

Lord Parasurama ki – Jai!

So, just see the prowess of my Lord, He is your Lord also, bow down.

“aise sri Parasurama ko mere baram bar pranam hai”

As we say that with Krsna, unto such Krsna I offer my obeisances again and again, and to such Lord Parasurama we offer our obeisance as you just saw what He did with aksauhini. So, then His army was no more in existence. Then Kartavirya Arjuna himself comes on the scene and I would like to remember, Kartavirya Arjuna with his Sahastra Bahu, Bahu means arms and he had one thousand arms. While he was battling with Parasurama. Why He is called Parasurama? because He holds Parasu in His hand. Parasu is a chopper or an Axe is called Parasu. So that is His weapon, so he is known as Parasurama. So, He has two sets of weapons, one is ParaSu (the chopper and the shield) and other one is bow and arrow. So Kartavirya Arjuna, he was holding with his five hundred left hands he was holding the bows, how many? five hundred of them in five hundred left hands, and in five hundred right hands, he was holding or stringing the arrows and shooting. You could imagine the battel.

But Parasurama had only one bow and one arrow but he was counteracting and dismantling all those arrows. So Kartavirya Arjuna couldn’t battle and fight with the use to arrows, then he started picking up and uprooting gigantic trees and throwing them at Parasurama and then Parasurama gets closer and with the chopper he uses chopping technique. He cuts all the arms of Kartavirya Arjuna and then finally whooopppp, finished.

This was a nice scene. Although Parasurama was very ghastly, still as a lila and a pastime of ParaSuram. So when enemy is at distance, Parasurama uses just bow and arrow and when He gets closer to the enemy or when enemy gets closer to Him, then He has chopper. I was thinking, this is Parasurama, there are three Ramas. Parasurama, Sri Rama, Balarama. So Balarama also has two weapons. He is Haldhara, so He has plough and the other weapon is club (Musala). Not regular club, little different kind. Now they offer Musala in Krsna Balarama temple, in the beginning there use to be club like a Hanumana holding club. But it’s not exactly like club, it is translated as club, but it is Musala. He is Musaldhar or Haldhara. What does Balarama do? Sometimes Balarama while fighting with an enemy, He drags His enemy with the help of the plough closer, closer and closer and when the enemy is close enough then shuupp.. with the club, and the enemy is finished.

So then Parasurama returns with Kamadhenu to his father’s grahasta asrama or father is also like a guru for Him, so He returned to His father’s asrama and He has a cow Kamadhenu but as we just finished reading those verses, statements of Jamadagni, He was not happy. “Oh! You killed, you killed Nardeva and this is sin, you committed sinful activity by killing Nardeva. The king who represents the Lord, who is the first citizen, the protector of the citizens and you killed him? This is a sinful act”. So Jamadagni was not at all happy. And that reminded me when Srngi also had committed offence of yet another nardeva, Pariksit Maharaja, then Samyak Rishi was also not happy. “Hey What did you do? You kid, you immature”. So, the Sanskrit word is there Angaha means committing sin. So, both of them Jamadagni Muni as well as Samyak rishi both of them used the same word Angaha, you committed sin, both of them used that word and both of them are chastising and expressing displeasure. Both the parents Jamadagni muni and Samyak rishi.

So then instead of the verse that is in front of us that describes the two qualities of Jamadagni mentioned, prabhava-jnah. First of all, Parasurama was prabhava-jnah. Parasurama knew the prabhava or influence or prowess of his father and spiritual master in regards to two, his prabhava and Samadis, he has undergone meditation. He has become powerful because he meditates. My father meditates. He is a meditator. And tapasaS ca sah, because he is a tapasvi, he undergoes all the austerity and performs meditation and that is why I know his prabhava. I am prabhava-nah, I am the knower of his prabhava. So those two items mentioned in the verse mentioned on the board, in the sixth verse of this chapter. But in the previous verses yet another quality of Jamadagni is mentioned, Ksamaya. Ksama- “You are kid, you are such an intolerant, you could have tolerated whatever Kartavirya Arjuna did. You could have forgiven”. So, this was the stand of Jamadagni. And he also said ksamaya rocate sauri, he said, Lord is pleased when one is tolerant, and he forgives others.

Pariksit Maharaja also did that with Kali, He forgave Kali “Okay you could stay in four places, to set that kind of scene, you could stay in four places, dyutam panam striyah suna”. Gambling means dyutam, panam means drinking, suna is where slaughtering is happening and striyah where there is prostitution. So, these four places you could stay. So, like that
fifth place also was offered. So, king Pariksit exhibited these, being Ksamashil, Ksamasva.

Parasurama had not exhibited that.
ksaminam asu bhagavams tusyate harir isvarah

And Jamadagni also said ksaminam those who are tolerant, aSu bhagavams tusyate Bhagvan becomes please with those who are tolerant. “Okay so you have committed sin so how to get rid of the reactions are waiting”.

So Jamadagni said,

tirtha-samsevaya camho jahy angacyuta-cetanah

You should go to the holy places, tour to the holy places, and develop angacyuta-cetanah. Srila Prabhupada would translate this as develop Krishna Consciousness. You should become Krishna conscious, go to the holy places and tirtha-samsevaya not only sevaya but samsevaya means samyak prakaren sevaya. Go deeper into the service, get into the details of the service, that is the meaning of samsevaya, tirtha-samsevaya and become Krishna conscious. So, then I was thinking that its good that this father, kind and authoritative and knowledgeable and learned and realised Jamadgani, he gave these instructions to his son Parasurama but then what about us?

We also committed sins, yes, any sinner here? One, two.. life after life after life all we did was sinful. Not that we committed one, two, five sin, everything we did was just sinful. Wrong. Because we were busy in Adharma, not in Krishna conscious. Or may be some kind of Dhama but we were not going for sarva-dharman parityajya. Yesterday we were hearing Devamrita Maharaja. His mother was also getting, “Hey, children you have to recite the verse of Bible first, if no recitation of bible then no lunch or no dinner.” So, there was some kind of pious deeds, or theistic, but lot of atheism, we also heard from Maharaja three kinds of Atheist. I never heard it before. Organic, naturally grown and everyone here in this world is naturally grown atheist and some are analytical with their logic and justification of all the sins they commit. So, all these two three kinds, some uttama Adhikari amongst the sinners or atheist, some madhyam Adhikaris and some kanishtha Adhikaris, different grades of atheist.

As Maharaj was describing his childhood and his mother’s instruction. So, I was thinking, I have to give class today, so I was thinking today I would say something about my mother. So, she would bring me to temples, sometime Hanuman temple, Siddhesvara temple or some other temples in my village. So, as we are in front of the deities, she would say fold your hands and we would do that and then Pray, and I wouldn’t know what to pray so I would wait for dictation from my mother. Please pray, “God give me intelligence”, pray to God give me intelligence, God give me intelligence. So, this was kind of standard prayer my mother use to get me to say. So, praying and praying so finally when god gave me intelligence and I joined became a Brahmacari at Juhu Hare Krishna land in Bombay.

And she was saying, “Oh! God, why did you give such intelligence to my son?” She was not happy with this kind of ntelligence, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam Saranam vraja and all that. And then my brother had come, finally found out whereabouts of me. You have to come, you have to return home, mother may not survive, she is ready to give up her life, please come and give your darshan just one time. she wants to see you. So, I went, it’s a long story, lot of event. So, I was in sadhu form, dhoti, kurta and shaven head. I was kind of a brilliant student in my high school and school days. So, all the villagers were thinking, he was a nice boy, he used to be nice boy, so now what has happened? He has gone mad, became pagal and my father was begging, he had a pant in his hand, and begging, please wear this, become normal. Although my father and my brothers they never ever had touched pants in their life. There were also in dhoti and kurta. But they wanted me to become a modern man, an Engineer and economic development so that was on there mind. So, they were thinking that one day our son will be come engineer, he would come back riding in a car or at least he will come with a motor bike, the something else happened, Srila Prabhupada gave me this Padayatra program, bullock cart sankirtana party. And in 1984 as we started our long walk, long sankirtana party from Dwaraka to Mayapur.

We went through Gujarat and came to Maharashtra, and one day guess what? One day we visited my village and I come into the village riding a bullock cart. Hari. So, our parents, like Jamadgani, the ideal father he gave the right instruction, our parents did not do but, Srila Prabhupada ki Jaya, Srila Prabhupada became our father. He took the role of a father. And now he had thousands of children. There also use to be talk that they are all your disciples, but some have recognised you are and some have not yet recognised that you are there spiritual father or spiritual master but at least thousands recognised and Prabhupada gave that similar instruction as Jamadagni.

tirtha-samsevaya acyuta-cetanah

Prabhupada gave us Mayapur Vrindavan festival ki jaya! You go to Mayapur, you go to Vrindavan and cultivate your Krishna Consciousness, so what our parents could not do, or no one did for us, on behalf of Gauranga, Gauranga, Gauranga, Gauranga, this is magnanimity of Gauranga, namo maha-vadanyaya kindly magnimously Lord gave Prabhupada to the world and he played a role of spiritual father and spiritual master and saved us.

And few thoughts on first verse on which Prabhupada has not written commentary I was reminded, yesterday we heard. How Balarama went on tirtha yatra of all India and then Parasurama also was asked to tirtha-yatram samvatsaram he also went on tirtha yatra and we heard yesterday, Balarama went on tirtha yatra pilgrimage for one year and Parasurama also went on tirtha yatra for one year. This Ram that Ram similarity. So, both Rams went on pilgrimage for one year. Balarama went on pilgrimage for one year and Parasurama went on pilgrimage for one year and Nityananda Rama, Balarama hoilo Nitai, He also went on pilgrimage. You know that, Right?

Kanai pandit, okay you have my son. And from Ekachakra gram journey began and Nityananda Prabhu was travelling and travelling assisting this sadhu all over India like Balarama travelled, Parasurama travelled and Nityananda Rama also travelled and as Nityananda had come, arrived at Radhakunda and that’s where he gets the news, “Hey, our Lord is here, Gauranga has appeared.” He received this news on the banks of Radhakunda and that’s when Nityananda Prabhu stops travelling, going round and round all over India and straight comes to Navadvipa, Haribol, I am here, gives some indication that I’m here, I am here, the way he arrived and Caitanya Mahaprabhu says go find out, whereabouts of Nityananda. And they had gone in all ten directions looking for Nityananda in Navadvipa. He is somewhere in Navadvipa but Nityananda did not want others to find him out. Nityananda wanted only Gauranga to find him out. So, he was right here but they couldn’t find Nityananda. It was the will of Nityananda. Then so they had gone back, no no we couldn’t find. We went everywhere, to every island, all the corners, nook and corners but we couldn’t find. Then Caitanya Mahaprabhu said ok okay, lets go, then Caitanya Mahaprabhu starts going in the direction on Bhaktisiddhanta Marga, Gauranga was walking, and gaur bhakta vrindas were right behind Him. Of course, Bhaktisiddhanta Marg was not there and at Nandanacarya bhavan so about 100, 150 or 200 meters down the road there is
Nandanacarya bhavan, it exists even now.

So, Caitanya Mahaprabhu entered, he inquired, do you know? Have you seen? if anybody know, he knows because he is Sarvagya meaning what? He knows everything. Sarvagya. And then that great meeting between the two Lords. Balarama hoilo nitai, Nityananda Rama and Gauranga met at Nandanacarya’s house called Nandanacarya’s Bhavan. And what a reunion!

What a meeting! embracing, shedding tears and trembling and rolling on the ground and went on and on before they calmed down and sat down and finally some exchange of thoughts happened. So that Rama, Nityananda Rama travelled and arrived at Navadvipa and the meeting took place. And Parshurama also travelled, like that many more things could be said but time and tide waits for none. We wish there was something to stop the time so that there is always 8.00 clock, the beginning, but the clock moves, and it has made one complete round and it is 9.00 o’clock.

Everything is sanctioned by the God

Everything is sanctioned by the God.
Srimad Bhagavatam : 3.26.18

So we read from Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 3, Chapter 26 text number 18.

antah purusa rupena
kala rupena yo bahih
samenvety esa sattvanam
Bhagavan atma mayaya
(SB 3.26.18)

Antah: within ; purusa rupena: in the form of super soul; kala rupena: in the form of time; of time; yah: He who; bahih: without; samanveti: exists; esah: He; sattvanam: of all living entities; Bhagavan: the supreme personality of Godhead; atma mayaya: by his potencies. Translation and Purport by Srila Prabhupad

Srila Prabhupad Ki Jai….

By exhibiting His potencies, the Supreme Personality of Godhead adjusts all these different elements keeping Himself within as the Supersoul and without as time.

Here it is stated that within the heart the Supreme Personality of Godhead resides as the Supersoul. This situation is also explained in Bhagavad Gita: The Supersoul rests beside the individual soul and acts as a witness. This is also confirmed elsewhere in the Vedic literature : Two birds are sitting on the same tree of the body; one is witnessing, and the other is eating the fruits of the tree. This purusa, or paramatma, who resides within the body of the individual soul, is described in Bhagavad- Gita 13.23 as the upadrasta, witness, and the anumanta, sanctioning authority. The conditioned soul engages in the happiness and distress of the particular body given him by the arrangement of the external energy of the Supreme Lord. But the supreme living being, or the Paramatma, is different from the conditioned soul. He is described in Bhagavad-Gita as Mahesvara, or the Supreme Lord. He is Paramatma, not Jivatma. Paramatma means the Supersoul, who is sitting by the side of
the conditioned soul just to sanction his activities. The conditioned soul comes to this material world in order to lord it over material nature. Since one cannot do anything without the sanction of the Supreme Lord, He lives with the Jiva soul as witness and sanction giver. He is also bhokta; He gives maintenance and sustenance to the conditioned soul.

Since the living entity is constitutionally part and parcel of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Lord is very affectionate to the living entities. Unfortunately, when the living entity is bewildered or illusioned by the external energy, he becomes forgetful of his eternal relationship with the Lord, but as soon as he becomes aware of his constitutional position, he is librated. The minute independence of the conditioned soul is exhibited by his marginal position. If he likes, he can forget the Supreme Personality of Godhead and come into the material existence with a false ego to lord over material
nature, but if he likes he can turn his face to the service of the Lord. The individual living entity is given that independence. His conditional life is ended and his life becomes successful as soon as he turns his face to the Lord, but by misusing his independence he enters into material existence. Yet the Lord is so kind that, as Supersoul, He always remains with the conditioned soul. The concern of the Lord is neither to enjoy not to suffer from the material body. He remains with the jiva simply as sanction giver and witness so that the living entity can receive the results of his activities good or
bad.

Outside the body of the conditioned soul, the Supreme Personality of Godhead remains as the time factor. According to the Sankhya system of philosophy, there are twenty five elements. The twenty four elements already described plus the time factor makes twenty five. According to some learned philosophers, the Supersoul is included to make a total of twenty six elements.

antah purusa rupena
kala rupena yo bahih
samenvety esa sattvanam
Bhagavan atma mayaya
(SB 3.26.18)

By exhibiting His potencies, the Supreme Personality of Godhead adjusts all these different elements keeping Himself within as the Supersoul and without as time.

bahir narsimho hrdaye narsimho bahir nrsimho yato yato yami tato narsimhah

He is everywhere. You can’t just get away from him or you can’t get rid of him. You can’t get rid of God. Otam, protam, described in Bhagavatam like that like in the cloth, the threads are two ways, otam, protam threads are this way and that way. Lord is also otam, protam.

andantara-stha-paramanu-cayantara-stham (brahma samita stanza 8)

Supersoul and soul of the universe and is also with in an atom. kan kan mein Bhagavan, kan, kan mein Bhagavan, every atom He is there, antah inside He exists, antah samanvety purusa rupena, inside He exists as purusa rupena that is sarvasya caham hrdi sannivisto (BG 15.15) Supersoul with in bahih kala rupena samenvety and He exists outside in the form of kal rupa, Purusha rupa, kala rupa the two rupas talked about here two forms.

Purusa rupena antah
kala rupena bahih samanvety

He exists samenvety eva sattvanam and what is He doing? He is exhibiting His potencies, the Supreme Personality of Godhead adjusts all different elements keeping Himself within as Supersoul and without as time. So sattvanam all the living entity sattvanam. So all the sattva, all the living entities or in relationship with the living entity, Lord is inside as supersoul and outside as the time factor. bhagavan atma mayaya and He is in action. How does He act atma mayaya with His
energies, He is everywhere. He is there

sambhavamy atma mayaya (BG 4.6) also sambhavamy

appears- atma mayaya and He is existing and acting atma mayaya with His energies. He is expertly hiding, Lord is expert in what? Hiding. We heard so many times, He is not very far. Where is He, He is right inside us. He is right inside within us, take so much time to, He is within us. Small sentence, right. He is within us just to realise this small statement,
sarvasya caham hrdi sannivisto (BG 15.15) sitting there, mattah smrtir jnanam apohanam ca (BG 15.15), why can’t we manage, just a simple realization that He is within us. He sits there and what does He do? Mattah samrtir from Me comes remembrance, from Me comes knowledge and from Me, that is from Lord comes forgetfulness also. So there is also sambhavamy atma mayaya (BG
4.6) or Bhagavan atma mayaya (SB. 3.26.18). He has energies to arrangement or He makes adjustments, Personality of Godhead makes different adjustments, keeping Himself within as Supersoul and without as time. So with one arrangement, we are able to remember Him, if you are lucky, lucky you? If you are lucky that arrangement you could remember Him and with another arrangement, you totally forget Him. He is just within you and you are going all over the three worlds, looking. Oh! Where is He? Where is He? Looking outside, He is right within you, forgetfulness. Well we are fortunate at least, if there is some clue that, He is there, He is, somewhere. We come to conclusion, oh He exists, He exists. asti, asti and if the person is astik, saying asti, asti, He is, He exists, He exists, so that person is astik also, that’s good starting point at least, He exists. But if you are influenced by apohanam cha forgetfulness, then you are also convinced that He does not, He does not exist. Who doesn’t exist? Who doesn’t exist,? Who doesn’t exist? God does not exist and this is because of the influence of the forgetfulness, aspect of the Lord, energy of the Lord, arrangement of the Lord and you are convinced that He doesn’t exist and who has convinced you like this, who has convinced you, Lord. I am within the heart and from Me comes the knowledge of remembrance and forgetfulness. So if someone is convinced that God doesn’t exist. This conviction also has come from, directly from Him, from Him comes the forgetfulness.

God doesn’t exist, who say so? God says, I don’t exist, Go ahead tell the whole world, I will give you some logical argument also that you could justify your, you could be, ignorance is blessed, you could get that kind of bliss, not disturbed by my existence, my presence, you could just be happy, I don’t exist, God tell from you know that I don’t exist, I don’t exist, like someone a visitor (knock) someone in there, the door is open, little child opens that door and gentle men, Is your
father here, let me go and find out , and he goes all over, it’s a big home so he has looking for father and the child say, no, your friend Mr. George okay Mr. Patel ; would like to see you. Oh! that George, oh! that Patel, Oh again, tell him I am not here. So child goes running back to the door and child says, My father said, my father said, what did my father said, I am not here. I don’t exist. I am not here. Who said? Father said. What did he say? I am not here. He is very much there. So everybody in the world thinking and declaring and writing books or whatever making proclamations that God doesn’t exist.

This Idea of God’s non existence also come from Him, comes from the Lord. He makes you think like this. He makes you write like this. He makes to talk like that because you like it. But who have seen, who have seen, who have seen, who have seen god? I haven’t seen, does that mean you haven’t seen, does that mean no one haven’t seen and one person has seen. Isn’t that good enough for having a proof of god’s existence. If one person has seen God. Is that enough like a thief, in the middle of the night thief, you know. He did his stealing and ran in the darkness and there is just one witness, whole village was sleeping and snoring and they didn’t know what happened but if one person had seen the thief. Is that good enough to prove that the thief existed. So likewise if, there is just one person in existence in the world, who has seen God, that’s enough, proof of God.

Someone has seen God.

So there are people for blind person, blind person may also and he does claim oh sun, sun doesn’t exist. Who is saying this? A blind person says, “Sun doesn’t exist.” What value does it have. Blind person says sun doesn’t exist, but next to him, is a person with the eyes and he is seeing the sun. So sun cannot existing or not existing at the same time. Sun existed, God exist. antah purusa rupena exist, Supersoul exit, kala rupena bahih and as time he exists outside. The Previous verse also said sa Bhagavan kala (SB 3.26.17) that Lord is time, the time factor is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, kaloasmi, so in the due course of time, we perform action and is witness by the Lord, who is described here as upadrasta, we perform some activity and upadrasta, Lord as a super soul he has taken note of it then time passes on and what happens in due course of
time, that action, the time come, that action, time for reaction comes. This action will take that much time for reaction, the different, say seed, some seed they fructify overnight but seed like coconut you may put in the ground and you go back next day, nothing happen, you go back after one week, nothing happen, if probably wondering seed is there or someone stole it, what happen have patience and then after few months, coconut gradually. So some seed fructify instantly, overnight,
some seeds take lot of time, time, take lot of time.

So upadrasta, the Lord has witnessed, He has witness and janamyonisu, this is that yoni, you take birth,

karmana daiva netrena (SB. 3.31.1)
sad asad janmayonisu (BG. 13.22)

The two ways, the two ways, karmana daiva netrena, karma you had perform the activity and karmana daiva netrena, daiva, devta is there, adi-dev, Lord is there or He has others also as witness, many parties are reporting to him. He also knows so karmana daiva netrena and then sad asad janmayonisu time has come for janam, death and Janam, “sad janam and asad janam”, higher species life and other higher lower species, this is all. So upadrasta, the kal factor is there. Lord is kal and then sanction has to be given. Anumanta, so in due course of time, Lord is keeping an eye, this action, reactions time has come,
this action reaction time has come and accordingly the, so this way. Lord as upadrasta and anumanta these functions. Witness and sanctioning authority goes on. So time Bhagavatam says we are reading here, Time is Krsna, time is Krsna, but if you go to Bombay then what do they say, time is money, time is money meaning that and if you don’t utilise your time for making money, what have you done. You wasted your time, you just simply wasting time, you know because he is not making money because time is money, which is sweeter then, like this they say. This is worth understanding that Bhagavat Dharma, Bhagavat understanding time is Krsna. Hence the time should be used for Krsna or acquiring Krsna. Could we say making Krsna or acquiring Krsna, they are using time for acquiring money, making money, those who understand that time is Krsna, they want to
acquire that Krsna and if you are not used your time for realising Krsna then you have wasted your time.

ayur harti vai pumsam
udyann astam ca yann asau
uttama sloka vartaya
(SB 2.3.17)

So that statement says, those who are busy in “uttama sloka varta” the news, messages, topics, nama, rupa, guna, lila, dhama, they are hearing about this topic.

prati-ksanasvadana-lolupasya
vande guroh sri-caranaravindam
(Guru Asthakam Stanza 5)

Acquiring “prati-ksanasvadana” acquiring relishing, naam, rupa, guna, leela, dham they are making best use of that time. Time doesn’t, time stand still, like a time, you are only in the present, you are with Krsna and you are present, you are in the present, all the time you remain present. So that time factor, you don’t go into the future, if you go into the future, you are not with Krsna. You go into the future and then what happens, some reactions waiting for you. As soon as you go into the
future, reactions are waiting for you, this reaction, that reaction. Oh! Why I am being arrested, someone may said, I just got up but someone was keeping the track. Oh the other night, you stole, you thief, so police catches up. Right, after few days police catches up, terrorist have been caught.

Most of the time they are, police is expert in catching up. So they are ordinary thieves caught. So they may say today I didn’t do anything wrong, I just got up. Fine, you didn’t do anything wrong today but one day, one night you did something wrong and the reaction time has come, punishment time has come now. So like that, if you didn’t exist in present, don’t exist with Krsna and how to exist with Krsna uttama shalok vartaya (2.3.17) or Srila Prabhupad is turning to Lord, facing to the
Lord, facing devotional service, Prabhupad is pointing out here, but if he likes, he can turn his face to the service of the Lord, not just facing, facing the Lord, sitting and sitting around, go do something Practical. Srila Prabhupad used to say sometimes, devotees use to come, gather around him, sit around, doing nothing, go do something practical, Prabhupad said. So Bhakti is not just devotion as lot of time Bhakti is translated as devotional but Srila Prabhupad translates Bhakti as devotional service. Devotional service you combine, prove it that you have devotion for the Lord. How would you prove, you do something for the Lord.

kayena manasa buddhya
kevalair indriyair api
yoginah karma kurvanti
(BG 5.11)

Yogis perform action very clear, it is a big misunderstanding sitting around, sitting around doing nothing. You know I have lots of devotion, you know, I have lots of devotion just sit around, just show your devotion facing devotional service, this is very typical way, Srila Prabhupad writes this, not facing the Lord. Facing devotional service and then the Lord will come. He will come to see you. Otherwise, you are sitting around facing the Lord. He may not be facing you. You are facing the Lord
but Lord may not face you, face towards you. But if you get up and if you are doing devotional service of the Lord, He will come to face you, shake hand with you. That’s the understanding Prabhupad emphasis on being active. So if we are active in devotional service and of course hearing about the Lord is a prime importance. Some devotees may not hear and just act that may also don’t work. Let us sit down and understand art of action.

yoga-sthah kuru karmani [BG 2.48]

This is Lord yoga-sthah situate yourself in yoga then establish your relationship with the Lord, link with the Lord, understand the Lord, understand yourself relationship, that is yoga-sthah and then Kuru Karmani, then you get up and perform activity. So this doesn’t say “Kuru Karmani, it Yogastha then “Kuru Karmani”. So this morning program that we have, this is for situating ourself Yoga-sthah. At the lotus feet of Krsna, understanding we are servants of Krsna this that and then Kuru Karmani.

mam anusmara yudhya ca (BG 8.7)

Two things mam anusmara and yudhya ca, two things are combined by the letter ca, anusmara ca, yudhya ca, so not only remembering and not only yudhya, not only fighting but while fighting or while remembering you fight, like that. So action is to be performed like that then, you are with the Lord and no reaction will await you. No reaction, if you take off, devotee some time, they take off flight at noon time, when the sun s up, up there. “Madhayan” time and if you fly at the speed of
approx. 1000 km/h from east to west. Are you able to imagine this, visualise this, taking off at noon time and you are flying in the westernly direction, with 100 km/h approx. What would be the experience. Sun would be always above you. Sun would be always just above your aircraft, you will never enter the darkness of the night, you will always be in light. If you stay with the sun, if you fly or run, whatever stay with the sun, then you are out of darkness.

Krsna – surya sama; maya haya andhakara
Yahan Krsna tahan nahi mayara adhikara
(Chaitanya caritamrita Madhya lila 2.22.31)

So that time factor, time is Krsna, and the time is used for acquiring Krsna by Chanting.

hare Krsna hare Krsna Krsna Krsna hare hare
hare ram hare ram ram ram hare hare

with full attention, attentively chanting, if there is distraction then reactions would be there. You will liable for punishment. Dandmahiti, punish him. So if we are with the Lord, while chanting, we are with the Lord, full attention, offence less chanting, but you can’t worry about offence less chanting only during chanting, no, if you want to chant, without offences then you will have to, while you are not chanting, you have to be careful. So actions we perform while, we are not chanting, those actions either they are gone help us to concentrate or be attentive during chanting or those actions are also going to distract us during our chanting. So it is like that chanting and not chanting time, other times, so we have to be careful, or be with the Lord all the time , 24 hours , because wasting time is , that is not allowed.

avyartha kalatvan
nama gane sada rucih
(cc. 2.23.18)

Such a nice statement nama gane sada rucih, avyartha kalatvan, arth means something substance or even economic for acquiring Krsna arth, vyartha means wasting time. avyartha kalatvan, so devotees know for this avyartha kalatvan, he does not waste his time and he is busy, not easy task, to be busy is not easy, In service of Krsna what is expected is that we stay busy. Khasn, anukhasn, ánu” means next moment also. “anukhasn” busy this moment, next moment, next moment, next moment, next moment then we are with the Lord, Lord is upadrasta, He is in our activities and Anumanta, is a sanction giver then he will sanction. What will he sanction. If he is pleased with you, and he has been mentioned here. Srila Prabhupad is mentioning that Lord is very very kind to the soul. Lord loves you. It is good to know this, Lord loves me. Okay thank you. I am included in the
list. So

man-mana bhava mad bhakto
mad yaji mam namaskuru
mam evaisyasi satyam te
pratijane priyo si me
(BG 18.65)

Priyo-si, you are Priya, you are very very dear to me, of course this statement is addressed to Arjun. But, is only Arjun very dear to the Lord, or others, or everybody is dear to the Lord. What do, you this. He is dear, all his parts are parcels are very dear, that is why knowing this, we also respect, all the parts and parcels of the Lord. Why? Because they are very dear to the Lord that they are Lord’s people, Lord’s part and parcel knowing this devotees very respectfully towards other living entity, other soul as if, atmavat sarvabhuteshu to that extent, atmavat sarvabhuteshu satvanaam, mention here all the living entities, they are part and parcel of the Lord. So knowing this that Lord’s people, the devotee love them, serve them and respect them. Amanina manadena , Lord loves them, because lord likes them and in endeavour, of us. Endeavour to go back to Krsna, what else would be there for us to succeed in going back to Godhead. If Lord doesn’t sanction, Lord doesn’t
want, Lord is not interested in this. What chances? Zero.

If Lord doesn’t want, Lord is not in favour of this idea, you going back to godhead. So this is, the saving race is this, Lord more than we want , Lord wants us. Lord likes us, Lord loves us. “haramkhor” Lord is so kind that he doesn’t hear what? Hey, He doesn’t hear. Oh! did he say Ram? He just said “haraam”, but kindly Lord, Hey, did he say Ram? He said Ram, yes, yes, yes, he said Ram. So that’s the kind of attitude Lord has towards living entity. He is very much interested in us. He has

not forgotten us, we may forget him. He remembers us and as we are reading here and everywhere that, why does he stay with us, wherever we go, he is with us. Does anyone else stay with us. Hey, you now next life. I will be a pig, my dear wife, or my dear children, would you like to join, they will say, Bye! See you later but doesn’t matter you are going to be in the next life, Lord is going to be there.

Whether you become a dog or a pig, whatever you become, Lord is there. Lord never ever leaves the living entities. Living entity alone, hoping that you will one of these days, you will turn to me. One of these days you will have this thought of me. You will think of me, you will and for little something he does, Lord want to give credit and put him on the path, on the way back to him. Lord is so kind like that. Any service, I was just thinking this morning that okay, you will get some
employment in spiritual sky, in Krsna’s abode, any services okay or any service. No, no, unless I am given this past, I am not gone accept that, anything. As well Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, dhuli sadrsam vicintaya.

Just make me particle, dust, sticking to your lotus feet, that’s all. You don’t even have to make me crown on your head, or some locket, ornament around your neck, hanging from your neck, no, no, just a dust particle, anything is fine. You are all okay with that, anything any service or you have some demand. I will find out, anything is okay. That is the way dhuli sadrsam vicintaya.

ayi nanda tanuja kinkaram and then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said my dear Lord, I am your servant, what about my payment. Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in that Sikshashtakam prayers at the end of Chaitanya Charitamrit, Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu he has to relish this sikshashtakam verses, take each verse, sometimes you spend whole night with one verse, this contemplating, relishing, mood of one verse of that ashtakam, make some comments, statements. So there when he talks about ayi nanda tanuja kinkaram. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, my dear Lord, I am your servant, what about my salary, vetan, this is vetan, salary. But I propose that you give me salary in the form of some “prem Dhan”. Give me some love, that would be my salary. At the end of the week, at the end of the month when it is time to give, make a payment, give me some Love, that’s all. Let love be the
payment. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu expresses the sentiments like that.

antah purusa rupena
kala rupena yo bahih
samenvety esa sattvanam
Bhagavan atma mayaya
(SB 3.26.18)

By exhibiting His potencies, the Supreme Personality of Godhead adjusts all these different elements keeping Himself within as the Supersoul and without as time. Time is running, we have to catch up with the time.

Any comments/ questions.
Krsna is all, good, Ya he is all good, then why the Bad exist.

Krsna is all good, the bad exist to help you to turn you to God. Latoon ke bhoot, baton se nahi mante, there is some bhutas, some ghost, they need some beating, they don’t go for a good advice, they want some kick, then they come to the senses. The world is so designed by the Lord, so that , so called bad is also good. It also helps to turn to God.

dukh mein sumrin sab kare
sukh mein kare na koi

This trouble is there, so when there are adverse conditions, something difficulty, some trouble, this, that. Oh! My God, then we turn to God. Just recently some scientist were doing some extra ordinary, experiment collider, whatever the name is. In Europe some place, high speed particle, the speed of particle, that particle would go seven times around the earth in one second, something like that goes seven circles in one second, went seven times around the earth with a speed. So it is quite
a scary thing, some people were scared, people committed suicide and there is also report that more people were going to temple. They thought some trouble is coming, Let us go to God. So those, so called bad things are good because the purpose is ultimate good for the living entity. They come into the senses, sooner or later because of that punishment factor.
