At appropriate time, Gopis make that appeal to Radha Shyamsundar, you may now enter Nikunja, these are special forest gardens, where only Radha and Shyamsundar enter others stay outside, this is an appeal “Nikunja me virajo Ghansyam Radhe Radhe”

Oh! Ghansyam. Oh! Radharani, you may now enter Nikunjas, Nikunja

“Sri Sri Radha Syamsundar ki jai”

“jayatam suratau pangor mama manda-mater gati
Mat-sarvasva-padambhojau radha-madana-mohanau”

Guadiya vaishnavas worship 3 deities of Vrindavan, the first they approach is Radha Madan Mohan, Madan Mohan, Madan is cupid, is a demigod, incharge of lust, and he goes around his puspaban, the arrow which also has flowers, keeps shooting right into the hearts, specially of those who are the young ones, young at heart and excites them. He arouses lusty feelings in them. This, Madan is very very beautiful, charming and specially empowered to attack the hearts with his arrows. The devotees, they take shelter of Madan Mohan , the Lord who attracts this Madan, Madan who attracts others, people of this world, young men and women get attracted to each other because of the influence of the Madan, then the Mohan, he does, he attracts this Madan to him. He makes Madan powerless.

“kandarpa koti kamniya vesesha shobham govindam adi purusam tamham bhajami”

We offer our most humble obeisance’s at the lotus feet of Govinda because he attracts this Madan.

“Kandarpa koti kamniya vesesha shobham”

This Krishna, Madan Mohan is so attractive that he attracts this Madan, not just one Madan, Kandarapa same thing, Kamdev Kamdev that is another name, so kandarpa koti koti, millions of cupids are attracted by the beauty of the Personality of Godhead. Hence, we take shelter of that Lord Krishna, known as Madan Mohan and once we are, we have a shelter of Madan Mohan means we have no more influence of this Madan. Then we approach another deity in Vrindavan that is Radha Govind, once we are free from this influence of kama, the lust, than we could settle in our devotional service, the spiritual life that becomes possible with the help of

Radha Govind ki jai …

“divyad-vrndaranya-kalpa-drumadhah
Srimad-ratnagara-simhasana-sthau
Sri-sri-radha-srila-govinda-devau
Presthalibhih sevyamanam smarami”

Smarami I remember, I meditate upon that Radha Govind, vrndaranya, Vrinda-aranya, that is vrindavan, aranya– forest, Vrinda-aranya, in Vrindavan, there are “kalpa-drumadhah” there are desire tree, kalpavrukshas, kalpa-drumadhah, underneath, under those kalpavruksha, or one of those desire trees, “simhasana-sthau” there is a throne, bedecked with jewels. “Sri-sri-radha-srila-govinda-devau” and seated on that throne are Radha and Govind.

“Sri-sri-radha-srila-govinda-devau
Presthalibhih sevyamanau smarami”

Presthalibhih, that Radha Govind is surrounded by very dear – Presth, alibhihGopis, specially lots of times, there are only astasakhis there. “Presthalibhih sevyamanau” and they are very very busy, absorbed these sakhis, gopis, manjaries also are serving this divine couple in so many varieties of ways, each one has a role to play, service to render.

“Presthalibhih sevyamanam smarami”

This is my meditation or I would like to meditate upon Radha Govind.

Srimaan-rasa-rasarambhi-vamsivata-tatasthitah
karsan-venur-svanair-gopi-gopinath-sriye-sunah

Then finally guadiya vaishnvas destination is Radha Gopinath, Nath, the master of the Gopis, Gopinath.

srimaan-rasa-rasarambhi

That lord at the beginning of the rasa, rasa-rasarambhi, before even the beginning of rasa, “vamsivat,” He climbs up a tree called vamsivat and he plays his flute and he sends invitation to all the Gopis to come and join him there in that particular forest and this is around 10.30 pm, He does this, while whole Vraja is entirely fast asleep, Krishna wakes up, Radha Gopinath wakes up, and that is His time for his most confidential devotees and associates called Gopis, headed by Srimati Radhika. So several hours, there is no disturbance of any sort, no other obligations, He just wholly and solely of His Gopies and specially of Radharani and they are ofcourse His, they are also kind of Him, they are Him, nondifferent, they are His potency, He is shaktiman and they are his shakti, He is their source, He is a powerhouse and they are the power, He is the potent and they are the potencies called Alahdini shaktis, pleasure potencies of the Lord, so Lord is just playing with His own energies, He is expanding, Radharani is Krishna, Krishna expands and he becomes Radharani, Radharani further expands and she becomes Gopis. So it is just, He is playing with Himself, with His extensions, expansions, His energies, He has right to do so.

Disease called impersonalism

Venue: Pandharpur
Verse: Srimad Bhagavatam 4.8.47

srivatsankam ghana-syamam
purusam vana-malinam
sankha-cakra-gada-padmair
abhivyakta-caturbhujam

Word for word:
srivatsankam — the mark of Srivatsa on the chest of the Lord; ghana-syamam — deeply bluish; purusam— the Supreme Person; vana-malinam — with a garland of flowers; sankha — conch shell; cakra — wheel; gada — club; padmair — lotus flower; abhivyakta — manifested; catuh-bhujam — four handed.

Translation by Srila Prabhupad:
Lord is further described as having the mark of Srivatsa, or the sitting place of the goddess of fortune, and His bodily hue is deep bluish. Lord is a person, He wears the garland of flowers, and He is eternally manifest with four hands, which hold beginning from the lower left hand, a conch shell, wheel, club and lotus flower.

Purport by Srila Prabhupad:
Here in this verse, word purusam is very significant. The Lord is never female. He is always male (purusa). Therefore the impersonalist who imagines the Lord’s form as that of a woman is mistaken. The Lord appears in female form if necessary, but His perpetual form is purusa because He is originally male. The feminine feature of the Lord is displayed by goddess of fortune—Laksmi, Radharani, Sita, etc. All these goddesses of fortune are servitors of the Lord; they are not the Supreme, as falsely imagined by the impersonalist. Lord Krishna in His Narayana feature is always four handed. On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, when Arjuna wanted to see His universal form, He showed this feature of four-handed Narayana. Some devotees are of the opinion that Krishna is an incarnation of Narayana, but the Bhagavata School says that Narayana is a manifestation of Krishna.

(The sloka and translation is repeated)

This section of Bhagvatam or some of the verses of this chapter here, chapter entitled “Druva Maharaj leaves home”, what we get to hear is a description of the beauty or beautiful form of the Lord. As we go through the chapters of Bhagvatam, and some other scriptures also, some places, some sections are describing the beauty of the Lord and there are lots of them from every now and then and yet there are other parts describing qualities of Lord Krishna. If you just try to visualize or think of those sections, you could think of several describing qualities of the Lord, Him as merciful and etc. 64 qualities. In Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu, Nectar of Devotion , Rupa Goswami while describing qualities of Krishna, he will take so many verses from Bhagvatam and scriptures also and while talking of the form of Lord, he will again quote the verses from Bhagvatam and other Vedic literature sources and there will be yet another section describing the pastimes of the Lord, lots of pastimes, everywhere and then there are some other chapters, sections glorifying the holy name of the Lord, Ajamil, story of Ajamil, and then there are other sections, descriptions of Vaikuntha as a whole chapter, describing abode of the Lord.

“Sri-Radhika-Madhava-yorapar-Madhurya lila guna-rupa nam-nam”

So all these name, form, quality, beauty is described throughout Bhagvatam. I think in Nectar of Instruction Upadesamrita Srila Rupa Goswami talks how, if you want to talk of a person in a complete way, then you have to talk of his name. Ok you said the name, some of the information or knowledge about that person, you have to know qualities of that person, then you get to know him more, you have to know how he looks like and you get to know him more, his activities, you know him more, his address, where does he stay? His abode? His residence? Then you know him more. So to know the Lord, Srila Prabhupad says, yes, everyone says “God is Great.” One of the quality of the Lord. “God is great.” But how is He great, that no one knows or they know very little about the description how God is great. Ok. Lord is beautiful but then, where are the descriptions of that beauty of the Lord, here you go, we are here. So Bhagvatam, Bhagvat also means different things related with bhagvan makes Bhagvat, things in relationship with bhagvan is Bhagvatam. So what is bhagvan?

“Isvarasha samagrasa viryasha yassha sriyaha jyana vairagyashaiva”

These 6 opulence of the Lord, this is what makes him Bhagvan, so those opulence’s again are described in Bhagvatam, hence this scripture is Bhagavat. It’s a complete scripture. If you go by this definition or understanding and if you want to understand someone, you have to understand his name, quality, activities, his place, name, address, telephone number, and then you know him fully. So if we apply this criteria to other scriptures, again in some other Purans, you don’t find name, form, qualities, activities, abode or very little, just drop here, drop there, yet there are other scriptures, the Bible and Quaran, there is hardly any description of the form of the Lord, although they will make a statement. Yes, man is made an image of God or Quaran will say, yes, in the seventh heaven, there is a throne and God is sitting there or on his right hand side, there is Jesus or there is a Mohammad sitting. They will talk of the hand of the Lord, right hand, his seat but then they will not describe how Lord looks like? Or Quaran also mentions, 99 names of Allah, as we have Vishnushastranam, 1000 names, Quaran describes, mentions 99 names and gives descriptions also of each name. What does it mean? So some names are mentioned, some introductory things, just giving hints, some indication only. But Bhagvatam is the only scripture, in existence, on the planet in the universe that describes off course we add, Guadiya Vaishavas add to this list, we add Caitanya Caritamrita to this list, Brahad Bhagvatam to this list, and like that we have, Guadiya Vaishanavas have bigger body of knowledge, because so many other says, “Oh! God is indescribable.” Did I say it right? He can’t be described. Ok. Then shut up. Can’t be described, this is what they want to do. Yes, can’t be described. So he is so wonderful, sometimes I have no words to describe what I just went through or the beautiful scene. Oh! I can’t describe, it is indescribable.

Krsna das Kaviraj would also say this how much I could describe not that I can’t describe but this is my limit. Caitanya Mahaprabhu is here in Vrindavan and what he is going through, his emotions, his ecstasies, its just beyond me. What I could manage I have described, more could be described by Anantsesa only. I leave this upto Lord Anantsesa, he has 1000 mouths and he is much more capable of describing and I have written just few chapters but crores of volumes could be written just to cover the pastimes of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu touring Vrindavan, going through Vrindavan. So others don’t know the Lord or they have made it easy, unfortunately describing Lord without the form. Yes! Yes! He exists. Yes he exists but he has no form, He is formless. Yes! Yes! God exists but he doesn’t see. What does that mean? Srila Prabhupad describes that in Isopanisad that means you are trying to call God as blind. Yes, yes He exists but cannot walk. What does that mean? He is lame, is that a description of Lord? Who would care to worship, pray to God who is helpless, can’t walk, can’t see, yes, you could see but God can’t see. What does that mean? You are more than God, yes, something that I can do but God can’t, I can walk, forget it. God can’t manage walking, I can talk but He is dumb fellow. Prabhupad argues like that, is that God? Understanding of God. This is a big disease, cancer spread all over the world, throughout the human race. This is called Impersonalism, Mayavad.

“Namaste sarasvate deve gaura-vani-pracarine , nirvisesa-sunyavadi –pascatya-desa-tarine”

People suffering, influenced and suffering because of the impersonalism, and another “ism” called voidism, nirvisesvad and sunyavad, the Buddha, “Mayavadam asat shastram” ,mayavad is a false scripture and I am the one. “Maeva kalau Brahman rupena” at one place. Shankar, Shiva is talking to his good wife “ I am the one appear in the age of Kali as Sankaracharya and I propagate this impersonal business, I take role of a Brahman, strong preacher Brahman, I go allover India preaching impersonalsim. But this is “Mayavadam asat shastram”, what kind of sastra is this? Asat, false and which has covered Buddhism, they are related. “One says God is, everything is zero” and shankaracharya had to say no, no, He is not zero, He is one. Then other acharyas had to appear and futher corrections saying He is not zero, He is not one, He is two. But then that was also too much, the two identities where so much stressed and which kind of made the distance bigger between the two, there close affinity and close contact and eternal relationship wasn’t so much emphasized and that had to be done as Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu with his philosophy of “achintyabhedabhedtattva.

He took kind of 2000 years, from the time Buddha appeared 2500 years ago and Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared 500 years ago. So, 2000 years to go from zero to one, to two, to simultaneously one and different, gradually and gradually He walks and then Srila Prabhupad has taken this philosophy of “personalism” all over the world, just recently, infact last week the Times of India wrote editorial and gave a hint why ISKCON is successful? The countries and place and towns and villages were even the bollywood, India’s Hollywood is called bollywood has not reached, places where bollywood has not reached, ISKCON has reached, small places and towns on the planet. So this huge success of ISKCON is because they are emphasizing this “personalism” in this world of impersonalism, editor noted, this world is full of impersonal, not only spiritually speaking but otherwise also dealings are very impersonal, like machines, no heart to heart, friendly dealings. There are no personal dealings, only business dealings, even if it sounds personal but its all motivated. So ISKCON is becoming successful because the world is dominated by impersonal philosophy impersonal dealings and what world needs is personal touch. ISKCON is propagating this Krishna is a person that’s what, impersonalism is because they make God impersonal,

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”

So “Srivatsankam” on the chest of the Lord. What is the sign on the chest of the Lord?” “Srivatsa.” What does it look like? It’s a line on the left side, left chest of the Lord, left side of the chest of the Lord. What’s the colour of that line? Golden and there is hair, hair on the chest of the Lord and there is a line, not just a mark but hair, fine hair and that is Laxmi, seat of Laxmi on the chest of the Lord.

“Srivatsankam ghanashyamam”

You all understand Ghanashyam, Srila Prabhupad gave that name to Ghanashyam. Bhakti Tirtha Maharaj was named Ghanashyam, kind of colour, deep black, deep bluish but weather that matched his karmi name, I don’t know, but matched the colour, John, so he should have been Jaggannath or Jagatpati, instead Prabhupad gave the name Ghanshyam. Gopis look at the clouds in the sky in the monsoon season and they are reminded of Krishna or even peacocks in Vrindavan, in Vrindavan clouds gathering up above in the sky, they begin dancing, they have a good time. Ghanshyamam, deep bluish, and anything that is deep and vast, is kind of bluish, ocean is deep, big. Right! So its bluish in colour. So is the sky, so there is some Krishna connection, Krishna’s colour, Krishna’s colour is reflected. Even the mountains, big, tall range of the mountains, looks what colour? Again bluish. “Ghansyamam purusham,” this word is significant, Prabhupad is pointing out, purusha also means He is person and purusha means enjoyer, He is male, because the womens liberation movement in the west, they are wondering.

Oh! God should be why why only male? Half of the population of humans are females, why are you saying God is male? But if you want to enjoy, anyone who wants to enjoy, he is a male, so these ladies are not ladies, they are not females, they want to be male, they take the role of male and want to exploit some other male, males, enjoyer, purusha means enjoyer, male means enjoyer. So male thinks female is a female, female thinks male is a female, they are trying to enjoy each other. Infact both of them are females, why are you fighting? What for? Understand? Who you are? You are female in relationship with the Lord that’s your position just surrender, you are meant for Lords enjoyment, you are to be enjoyed, not that your are enjoyer, this is when the spiritual life begins with this proper understanding, otherwise no one really understands who is who? Who is male? Who in female? So bhram, confusion, caught in this dual nature of male and female, black-white, easterner-westerner, all these kinds of….. “Vanmalinam,” he wears the garland of flowers from the forest, they just pick up fresh flowers of different colour and string them together and just offer, they don’t do much work on these flowers, yesterday we got some flowers from Solapur, there were so many colours in those flowers but those flowers were not natural colours, that imposed or painted from outside, the colours were put on those flowers, so vanmali doesn’t mean just take flowers as they are offer, cowherd boys also do this cowherd girls of course are even more expert in making garlands for Krishna.

“vanmalinam sankha-cakra-gada-padmair
abhivyakta-caturbhujam”

And he manifests four hands, he has four hands, each holding one symbol, one holding sankha, because which hand is holding which symbol makes lot of difference, he has different names. So Srila Prabhuapad describing here, maybe this is the normal, basic. He has four hands, two left hands, two right hands. So sankha, cakra, gada, padma, so you start from beginning, from lower left hand that is holding conch shell, next one is holding wheel. Left, upper left, then upper right hand is holding club and lower right hand is holding lotus flower, lets look at, is he holding?

Radha Pandharinath ki jai……………

Although one time Krishna tried showing four handed form, that did not satisfy the Gopis and Radharani, so Krishna had to appear in this form, so take a close look at this form.

Haribol………….

Proposal for Vrindavan by Upananda

No one appointed him but because of his concern for Krishna and Balarama and other residents of Gokul also, he had been doing this research and traveling and traveling, now, he just now returned from his travels and he is proposing, now he is saying, we have to leave this place.

“utthatavyam etha asmabir gokulsha hiteshibihi”

We care for all residents of Gokul and for every one’s benefit, especially for the benefit of Krishna and Balarama, we have to leave this place, is the proposal of Upanada.

“Maha Utpat Balana nashhetav”

It seems that the target of these attacks are balakas, the children, specially, Krishna and Balarama and he is reminding everyone, “Do you not remember,” all the assembled members of this august gathering that Balagnya, when Krishna was only six days old, Putana appeared, luckily you know, Krishna managed killing. Then Krishna was three months old, Shaktasur, just kicked that cart and cart went flying and broken into pieces. The attempt was there, trying to kill this child, then He was hundred days or three months old, Trnavarta came took the baby into the sky, of course the baby did not mind, He was enjoying seeing the whole Braja, first opportunity to fly in the sky free. Shilayam, and Krishna became heavier, he is briefly describing each past time, and on a big rock, he was killed as Krishna became heavier and heavier and then before us is this ghastly disaster seen, you could see the trees uprooted and,

“sureshvare paritrataha sureshvare tad api achuta rakshanam”

Achuta is, Sureshvar is, Lord is, Narayan is protecting our children but how long, one of these days, who knows? Who knows? So far, so good. Children have been protected but we can’t take risk. Then he says, “yaa shamo anyatra sanugaha,” we have to go, take everything, take everything with us, all the residents, all the cows, the basic needs with us and we have to leave this place, oh! Where do we go? What are you talking about? Do you have some concrete proposal? Yes, yes, and Upananda says,

“vanam vrindavanam nama pashavayam nav kananam”

I had been traveling and traveling throughout Braja Mandal and I have found a place, a place called Vrindavan. Let’s go to Vrindavan, Let’s go, are you ready? (Maharaja asks the audience and they respond by saying Haribol) What about the katha? (Laughter) We have taken sankalpa, we are in Vrindavan also, as we listen to katha of Krishna in Vrindavan, we are in Vrindavan, we are with Krishna, Krishna’s pastimes, just watch Krishna, take note of Krishna, try to become part of those pastimes, witness those pastimes, through the eyes of the Bhagvatam, Bhagvatam has two pages, right! So, see through one page with this eye and another page through the other eye and there is a window, hole is made into the Brahmand and you could see things beyond this universe through the eyes of Bhagvatam Shastra Caksusha,

“Gopgopigavam sevayam punyaadri tran Virudham”

And that Vrindavan is sevayam, very appropriate, suitable place for cows, always the concern is cows, for the cows very good place, very good place for us also and specially he is mentioning, therse is also punyaadri, there is one hill, mountain called Govardhan, there is lots of trina, grass, creepers and lakes, everything is there, beautiful place I have come across and we should go there right away. He made this presentation proposal for the residents of Vrindavan and he says we will go there,

“Bhavatam yadi rochate”

If you like we will go, if you, if you want, if you are ready, you think its a good place, I have described to you, if u like, we will go and what do you think was the response of the residents? Yes. Jaya, jaya. They said sadhu sadhu, say sadhu sadhu, (devotees reply sadhu sadhu), speaking Sanskrit now, forgot English? (laughs). Ya that’s what they said, sadhu sadhu iti wadinaha, as they heard, sadhu sadhu, Oh! Wonderful, wonderful and yes, we are for Vrindavan. Lets go to Vrindavan and they got ready to go to Vrindavan.

Lokanath Maharaj on sufferings of material world

Lecture By: H.H Lokanath Swami
Srimad Bhagavatam 3.29.03

virago yena puruso
bhagavan sarvato bhavet
acaksva jiva-lokasya
vividha mama samsritih

Synonyms:
viragah — detached; yena — by which; puruso — a person; bhagavan — my dear Lord; sarvatah? — completely; bhavet — may become; acaksva — please describe; jiva-lokasya — for the people in general; vividhah? — manifold; mama — for myself; samsritih— repetition of birth and death.

Translation:
Devahuti continued: My dear Lord, please also describe in detail, both for me and for people in general, the continual process of birth and death, for by hearing of such calamities we may become detached from the activities of this material world.

Purport:
In this verse, the word samsritih is very important. Sreya-sriti means the prosperous path of advancement towards the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and samsritih means the continued journey on the path of birth and death towards the darkest region of material existence.

People who have no knowledge of this material world, God and their actual intimate relationship with Him are actually going to the darkest region of material existence in the name of progress in the material advancement of civilization. To enter the darkest region of material existence means to enter into a species of life other than the human species. Ignorant men do not know that after this life they are completely under the grip of material nature and will be offered a life which may not be very congenial. How a living entity gets different kinds of bodies will be explained in the next chapter. This continual change of bodies in birth and death is called samsara. Devahuti requests her glorious son, Kapila Muni, to explain about this continued journey to impress upon the conditioned souls that they are undergoing a path of degradation by not understanding the path of bhakti-yoga, devotional service.

Shloka recited again….
Translation again….

Devahuti continues, my dear lord, please also describe in detail both for me and for people in general, the continual process of birth and death, for by hearing such calamities we may become detached from the activities of this material world.” Nice verse, all the verses are nice. Everything nice only is part of Bhagvatam.

Devahuti is addressing her son, she doesn’t say, my dear son, Tatahar. She is addressing him as bhagwan, word bhagwan is addressed in this statement, which doesn’t come in the beginning of sentence, it could be anywhere, it is not bhagwaan, bhagwaan, bhagwaan is bhagwaan, but when you want to address bhagwan, you say bhagwan, there is a difference, bhavaan, bhavan, some verse like that, someone said bhagwaan, she thought it was not written correctly.

Its correct, bhagwan is oh! My dear Lord. She is interested, not selfish, you could see, she wants to know what is good, not just for herself but also good for everybody Mamah and jivalokashya, something that is good for myself and all the living entities. Sanshriti, everybody, is undergoing the repetition of birth and death, that is, mam-sanshriti or jiva-lokshya sanshriti, my suffering and suffering of all the living entities, the sanshriti, going round and round, and vividaha, varieties, manifold, related birth and death and then related, in between birth and death, there are varieties of kinds of sufferings, vividah, I would like to know how one could develop detachment, viragaah, virag from the sanshriti, distance from the sanshriti, detachment from the sanshriti, yen pursho, again repeated, for all the purashas, purush here not is the supreme personality of Godhead, but a human being, conditioned souls, purushah, tend to enjoy, purushah means enjoyer, so human beings are also addressed as purushah because the position they have taken in this world, purushah, enjoyer, they forget that they are prakartis, so they have taken the position of purushah, so they are purushah, yen purushah viraagah, so that all the conditioned soul have developed viraag, not raag, raag, viraag, raag means attachment, viraag is the opposite of raag, is viraag, sarvato bhavate and this detachment of everybody under all circumstances, sarvato, sarvatra and sarvato, everywhere and for everyone, so that is the enquiry by Devahuti, Srila Prabhupad is pointing out, sanshriti, so Prabhupad, shreyashriti, shreyam is something that is beneficial for the welfare of person then there is called, shreya, shreyashritih,

Nashreya Anupasyami Hatva svajanahame

Arjun says that in the first chapter of Bhagvad Gita, oh, I don’t see any good coming out of this hatva, I kill svajanam, my own people, Aahave, in this battle, I do not see any, shreyah, shreyah na anupaschami, I do not see any good coming out of this, so preyas coming out of this, shreyas and preyas, shreyas and preyas, when we talk of this, may be something shreyas or Lord, you may be talking, I will get the kingdom, I will get some immediate benefits, may be there, some shreyas may be there, no preyas may be there, but I don’t see any shreyas in this, everyone is into what, into preyas, just do it, just do it, latest mantra around the world, meaning don’t even think, just go for it, you feel good, OK, if you feel good, do it, just do it.

As soon as you begin thinking like Arjun is thinking, he wants to think, he is a member of civilized society, he wants to think in long terms, not what I get now, and that’s all that I care about, what I get out of this now, then what happens later on, no one wants to think about it, so these are the two paths, so sanshriti has been mentioned in here, and Srila Prabhupad is mentioning, preyas, preyas-shruti now, shreyas, now confusing, shreyas-shruti, preyas and shreyas. Krishna also, so many things like this. Yes he would like to know, by hearing such calamities, sanshriti, then we may become detached from the activities of this material world and then Kapil Dev is going to talk of the sanshriti, the suffering of birth and death, specially the suffering of the conditioned soul within the womb of mother, it is to follow, just go on hearing and one day, he will get there soon, one of these days, you get there soon, it is coming and it is really scary, really, read that chapter, just be by yourself and read through that explanation, what the living entity is going through in the womb of mother, to the rays, hair would stand on end and you will be really scared and you may be thinking, is there some way out, some way, I don’t want to be in there, so upon the request, Achaksavah, please explain, please describe, the sanshritih, and Kapil Dev, is really, the naked face of the material existence, no sugaring of the pill, the pill as it is, without sugar, the pill as it is presented in the next chapter, what living entity has to go through the suffering, in the womb of the mother.

Punarapi jananam punarapi maranam Punarapi Janani Jhathare shayanam, iha samsare khalu dustare kripaya pahi pare murare
Is the prayer of shankara-acarya, infact, considered very intelligent prayer, saying and he is approaching Murari for that, O Murari, O Lord, you are the killer of Mura daemon, he was such a powerful daemon, and you killed him, you are known as Murari, but what about killing, what, kill my birth, kill my death, kill my old age, kill my disease. Otherwise, you know what good is your name is Murari, you are known as Murari, so please kill Punarpi jananam…………….shyanam.

Janani, the mother, jhathare, in the womb, shyanam, sleeping, the germs and worms, do they allow you to sleep there, no, is there light there? No, there is no lamp, night lamp, its only darkness. You can’t even stretch your hands and legs, like a little rainbow and so many descriptions are there.

Janani Jhatatre shayanam, iha samsare khalu dustare
This sansar is very very difficult situation, oh Murari, kripya, kindly do something, help me out of this, very intelligent prayer, we don’t even know what to pray for, so these acaryas are teaching, how to pray, what to pray for, Devahuti is teaching us what to ask for, so Lord is right there, he could give her the whole universe, anything, anything you like, he is the proprietor but all that she is asking, get me out of here, don’t give me anything from this world, I just want to be out of this world, see the difference.

Shunya itam jagat sarvam govind virahename

Without Govind, there is nothing, shunyaitam, shunya, big zero, the universe also is round, right, universe is brahamand, egg like shape round, so it is like shunya, you make sign of zero and sign of the universe, they are both round, Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, this whole universe is like a big zero, shunyaitam, whole universe although filled with so many-many things, it is just shunya, just zero, just empty, there is nothing, where is Govinda, Shunya itam jagat sarvam govind virahename.

So that is the point of Devahuti, please explain the sanshriti, real this, get this into our head, we are sick headed, please get this in there, so that we understand once and for all, suffering that is there, so that will develop viraag, we will develop detachment and we will go for devotional service which she has asked for in previous two verses, verse no 1 and 2, she is interested in devotional service, so how does one get to the devotional service? First comes, the detachment, first things first and then you go for devotional service, of course, you can start the devotional service from day 1, you come to Hare Krishna, we are full of attachment, but we chant Hare Krishna, hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna hare hare, hare raam, hare raam, raam raam hare hare.

Not that you become completely free, detached, and then you touch the bead bag to chant Hare Krishna, devotional service is so powerful, it can, it’s a beginning and the whole, the means and the goal are at the same time. Sometimes, detachment is the means and bhakti is the goal, gyan is the means, and bhaklti is the goal, bhakti is a complete thing. So lesson number 1 is that everyone needs to learn in this material world, this is not the place for enjoyment, this is not the place for enjoyment, OK, you can enjoy, but be ready to suffer, you are welcome to the club, you can enjoy but just be ready to suffer and this is what no one wants to do. Everyone wants to only enjoy and not suffer, and that is not just possible in this world. You always get two things, two sides of a coin, you can’t have just one side of a coin, coin means two sides and this world means dvandava, dvandava means two, dvandavatito vimat sarah, that’s a goal, dvandaya atit, you go beyond these 2 things. Everything has a counterpart, men and women, black and….. there is a big list, infact there is a big list, you thought we are exhausted, nothing more can be said, and on that list is happiness and distress, you are locals, I am foreigner, there is a day time and soon there will be night time, sometimes, they are democrats, sometimes….. atheists, like that, goes on and on, there is so much duality here, two things, you cant have just one, just be ready for the other one also.

It was Budddha Dev, not Buddha, his father never let his children, his son, Siddhartha, his prior name, his earlier name was Siddhartha, he wouldn’t let young prince to go away from the palace, always within the compound of palace, he was growing, he was a young man already and his father would not let him go, father’s idea was if my son steps outside of the palace compound and take tour, go around, he will come across the sufferings, he will see the sufferings and he did not want him to know that sufferings exist but the son was very-very anxious, Siddhartha was anxious, and then father was like, take a chariot and take a look, have sansar-darshan, see you are on the tour of sansar-darshan, looking at the world and he comes across, someone is trying to cross the road, help help, help, and he had not only two legs, Siddhartha thought he had three legs, he had a stick, not stick, walking stick, cane, he had a cane, bigger one and he was not straight but bow down, like a rainbow, he was a rainbow in the womb, and he is again getting ready, being some rehearsal, before you go into the womb, where you had to, you can’t be even stand straight, or sleep straight, you have to be in that form, a bent one, so towards, the end of this life also, bending is done, so that it gets little easier in womb, some rehearsal, some practice from previous experience is there, so you are being bent, so why is this person was not standing straight was Siddhartha’s question, he is an old man, now, he has a third leg, and why he is struggling, so he can’t see, he is asking for help, person falls down, he is getting trying to cross the road, such a struggle just to go across a 15-feet road, he is struggling, he is an old man, charioteer is explaining, he is an old man, then Siddhartha has no experience of this before, what do you mean by old man? Does everyone becomes old? What about me? No problem. Does everyone becomes old, of course.

Surely, so journey continues, chuk-chuk-chuk…chariot goes and then he sees someone on the footpath, he has leprosy and flies all around, he is suffering like anything, whats wrong with this one, he is sick, he is diseased. Does everyone get sick and diseased? Sure, What about me? Sure, No problem and then journey continues, horses are going and then procession is there, everyone is walking but one person is having a nice time, he is just lying flat on a stretcher kind of situation and four persons are carrying him and they are also singing “Raam Naam satya hai”…”raam naam satya hai”..”raam naam satya hai”… Now they are remembering, the name of Lord is reality, name of Raam is thruth, person’s cremation, person is being taken to the cremation ground, why is that everyone else is walking, why is that person not walking? Enquiry made by Siddhartha, he can not walk, he is dead, so where are they taking him? To the cremation ground…what will they do? they will burn him, will he come back? No. Does this also happen to everybody? For sure. And to me. No problem. You are on the list, so that was it. So, Siddhartha said, I have seen the world enough, enough is enough, please take my chariot back to the palace. And that night, when everyone was fast asleep, he never slept that night, what he had experienced during this sansar-darshan tour, that was on his mind, one day I am going to be old, one day I will also be sick, not just once, but again and again, one day they will be carrying me like that and I will not come back in the palace like this, so I want some way out of this, I want to end all this, so in the middle of night, he took off, goes to Gaya, sits under a tree and he is meditating and the result was enlightenment, he becomes enlightened, means Buddha, Buddha, comes from Bodha, Buddhi, intelligence, so he becomes enlightened, because of this viragah, viragah mentioned here, he saw suffering all around, he wanted to find solution to this problem, no patch work, some permanent solution, and that he has been taught by at another incarnation of Lord as Buddha Dev at part, the viraag part, so Devahuti is interested in knowing, please explain, please explain, for my benefit and for everyone’s benefit, this sanshritih, so much suffering is here, and by hearing this, she is expecting this, hoping, expecting, that there will be
Yen pursho Viragaah.

All the conditioned souls would develop detachment, they will give up this idea of trying to enjoy, so Krishna in Bhagvad Gita also,
Yehi samsrparsha bhoga dukha yonaya eva te, adyanta vantaha kaunteya nateshu ramte buddha. The intelligent Buddha, intelligent person will not indulge in something that has beginning and the end, adi antavat, infact this verse is also defining the who is the intelligent person, or which country is the intelligent country or intelligent society, this is how you define, judge and define, come to conclusion, is this country, is this individual, is this society, intelligent one, so Krishna says,
Adi antavat nateshu ramte.

One who doesn’t go for this business, adi anta, beginning and end, teshu na ramte, Buddha, Buddha, the intelligent person does not go for something that has beginning and coming to an end, and there is always beginning and end to the Yehi Samsparja bhoga, that is all the western or material advancement or civilization is all about, Yehi Samsparja bhoga, our senses are brought in contact with the sense objects, Samsparja, sam means nice, there is always this word, Sam-kirtan, even, Sankhya, Sankhya, akhya means to speak, explain, Sankhya, sankhya philosophy means nicely explained, ethically explained, sankhya, so samsparja, contact, contact of our senses with sense objects, a nice contact, samsparja and Krishna says, samsparja, this contact, senses coming in contact with sense objects gives birth to , ja, ja means birth, janma, samsparja, this gives birth to what, that is bhoga, but Krishna of course, He is the most intelligent personality says “dukha yona evte” something that becomes a cause of your enjoyment ete, ete, this that, close connection, this is what we are not able to figure this out, in this age of Kali, we are into enjoyment, we are not able to make the simple connection that bhoga yena evte, dukha yon evta, something that gave you happiness, that exact thing will become the cause of your dukha, bhoga that’s enjoyment dukha that is suffering, yoni means source, yoni, yonaya, many causes, but something that gave you pleasure, will give you suffering, that Krsna’s point is, something that gave you bhoga that will turn into roga, disease, your suffering, Yehi samsrparsha bhoga dukha yonaya eva te, adyanta vantaha kaunteya nateshu ramte buddha

And then he concludes, adyanta vanta, this beginning & end, nateshu ramte budha. Intelligent person will not go for this, so this modern, so called modern civilization is a total failure in understanding this point, simple point, something that gives you happiness will give you suffering. Do you want suffering? No, then don’t go for bhoga. Don’t want suffering, don’t go for enjoyment. But if you want to enjoy, be prepared to suffer. So Krishna Consciousness, bhakti-yoga, that is what she is interested to know. What is this bhakti-yoga? Please explain this bhakti-yoga, so that one transcends. One goes beyond this happiness & distress, birth & death all that. So this is Krishna Consciousness. Those who have not understood this Krishna Consciousness principle, God conscious principle. They are in ignorance and they will suffer and Srila Prabhupada, he was fully aware of this sanshriti, here also seen the naked face of this material existence, have full realization, that full, so being in Vrindavan, he was also thinking, people are suffering, people are suffering all over, so he could not just sit back & relax and enjoy. Being on the bank of Jamuna, he leaves Vrindavan, goes straight to the capital of the age of Kali, New York and showers few bombs there of
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Mahamantra and hands out some invitation & conducting his twice a week discourses. He is inviting them, please come, take part and he is explaining, what Devahuti is interested in, for jiva-loka, for everyone’s benefit Srila Prabhupada explains this science of bhakti-yoga, and he wanted many more to join him in his endeavor.

In India, he was attempting to, increase, expand his numbers, those who had so many children, he would approach, give me one son, no one gave, all are attached, then he goes to the West, America, whenever he wanted to, we also probably wanted to join Srila Prabhupada, but our parents would not let us do so, biggest stumbling block in India to join are the parents. When I joined, my mother was ready to give up her body, to give up her life. I received a telegram, but he went over to the West, the children there, that wasn’t the culture, good luck, they don’t have to consult their parents, they are on their own and they had gone to some extent, come to this Vairagya, some detachment, they are drop outs, cause of the suffering is, people around this country, hell with this, hell with that, looking for some alternatives and of course, they found drug as their alternative. The drugs were bringing them higher & lower, higher & lower.

Then, Prabhupada said, Ok! I have a drug that only keeps you higher. Stay high forever! You like that again, drug is there, dvandya is there, duality is there. They wish to stay high, but be prepared to go low. Go high, you go low, you go higher, you go lower, you go highest, you go lowest. No more going up, then you stay there, stay low. Then Prabhupada said, I have a drug that would stay high forever, then so many joined and then everything started and that was going on in New York only. Then there were invitations from the West Coast, then San Francisco, invitation from Mukunda, Prabhupada took, first flight Prabhupada took was from New York to San Francisco, that was first flight of his life, flying in aeroplane. Not flown before, that is why when I saw out of the window, all the buildings were looking like match boxes, when I am at the top of other, then gradually things expanded, Montreal was the third, New York, San Francisco, Montreal was the third, where does Los Angeles fit in? Fourth, so that was fourth in the row. Prabhupada made this as his western head quarter.

Los Angeles was the western head quarter for his International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Spent months, years, setting standards, training his followers, inspiring them to go all over US and starting more centre’s and then 3 Grahsta’s were chosen to go to Europe, to London, grahastas and Srila Prabhuada says what Gaudiya Sannyasi’s could not do, my grahsthas disciples will do now. He was proud of his grahstha disciples, even all disciples, grahsthas also, so they did it. So London, Europe was opened and then gradually other places. Then via Japan, he had come to Calcutta in late 70s. He had gone one time in the mid of, he was not well and soon as he was better he returned. But everyone was thinking, that is it, Prabhupada was not going to return. That was his 67, so he went in 67, then he went in 70, end of 70’s. Then he started travelling, doing big-big pandal programs in all over India. So he already conquered America, Europe, some other parts and he was making a big impact, big impressions upon the Indians.

With his western follower with him, to his right side, left side, behind everywhere and then Krishna Consciousness, then he went to Russia in June of 71. I was there in 71, March, pandal program and Prabhupada’s visit of Russia was already scheduled and made a point, make announcement, I don’t remember, I read only letter on, make announcement that I will be going to Russia, thousands, 20 to 30 thousand people in audience and one of his disciple to inform that Bhaktivedanta Swami, next he is going to Moscow. Big names India, someone going to Russia, America, two big big name in the world and also in India. He had already been to America and now he was ready for Russia. He made announcement that in June he will be leaving for Moscow. So he had gone to Moscow in June of 71 and Africa he had gone.

Africa was somewhere, so Prabhupada has made this Krishna Consciousness available all over the planet and there is no other solution, no one knows what the world is going through, you know when you are in difficulty. The present day leaders, the Presidents, the Prime Ministers, they have no clue, how to get out of this, totally confused. They will make big big statements, but they will make only more mess and so far, you will make only plans to exploit & enjoy. You should know only more suffering is awaiting you, that’s all, that’s your vision to enjoy. Enjoy kingdom of God, without God. According to this verse of Prabhupada, you are wanting to enjoy kingdom of God, without God, suffering would be there, you wouldn’t succeed, you will not succeed. Also, we haven’t mentioned here as Purusha, the enjoyer. We cannot compete; there is only one enjoyer that is Krishna. He will prove it and he is proving, no, you cannot enjoy, Ok, try it, see the results, it will work out for few moments, few days, few years, then you will see the outcome.

So there is only one purusha, only one enjoyer and everyone else is meant for his enjoyment. This is the conclusion, this cannot be changed, not reversed, not compromised, nothing, this is it or leave it. Have it or leave it, what is it, love or leave it. So, Devahuti would like some explanation, please explain, vicakshra, so that we understand the sanshriti and we turn to the Lord, go for devotional service, go for alternative, and only, so Prabhupada last pandal program that we did, in 71 was in Bombay was the first one. I happened to the fortunate one, Radhanath Maharaj was also, Yadubara, 3 of us was in an audience, in 71 pandal. We never met each other in that pandal, we found out later on, all 3 of us were there. And last pandal was there in 77, Prabhupada did not go to Vrindavan, leg of the festival, it was there in the Mayapur and from there he went to on the invitation of Giriraj, a brahmachari, still a brahmachari and Prabhupada was not well, but he did the pandal program and he roared, the topic was “Material civilization is total failure, only alternative is Krsna Consciousness”.

This was the theme of his very last public program that he conducted. So, 30 years ago, he declared publicly that this material civilization is doomed, failure, only way out is Krishna Consciousness. So it is our duty to further, further this, get convinced and please share this realization, this knowledge, so this is where the “Jare dekho tare kaho Krishna updesha” comes into the picture. “Jare dekho tare kaho Krishna updesha”, so what is Krishna’s updesha, bhagvad gita is his updesh, his instructions, so distribute Gita.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu is also behind this book distribution, distribute the knowledge, share the knowledge. “Jare dekho tare kaho” so distribute Srila Prabhupada books, there is knowledge, so when we talk, we could give the books, take out every opportunity, every forum possible, go on television, do the karma is good, is good, very good, yes or no and go with your boot as the language, scientist understand the language of boot. Prabhupada said, I think, he was saying in Atlanta. It was, kick them and then he corrected and added my boot, kick them. So karma is that front is very successful. So the myth has to be, what is it, myth has to be exposed or smashed. So there is a myth here, there is bubble of illusion here. This is the task of International Society of Krishna Consciousness, most important institution in the world, on the planet. Prabhupada made this claim, here he said, please understand this institution, you will support, push on this institution. So we have a big responsibility. This is all we have Krishna, we have Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu, so these are foundational days for Krishna Conscious movement, this is the future of the world, this is the future of this world. So Hare Krishna devotees are not confused or bewildered, that don’t know what is the way out. They could guide the entire human race. Prabhupada wants Brahmins, otherwise, otherwise he describes this society as the headless society. So what is the head, the Brahmin. One with knowledge is the head for society, so let us provides yogeshwara vani, where is lacking the society, we have to provide it, that is our role, brahmanical role, role of being exemplary and guiding, holding festivals, Rathyatra ki Jaya, big forum. Thousands of people come, thousands, so we have to understand, they want to hear philosophy, others we enter their heart, Krishna enter their heart through stomach, for those, enter stomach, heart is closer. He makes his way, heart can be conquered by prasadam, your tounge. So , a brahmachari, still a brahmachari and there is Krishna Con/strongstrongsciousness, such a beautiful, wonderful, sweet offering.

So, that there is no suffering, way out of suffering. Jai Advayta Maharaj gives shorter classes and leaves time for questions –answers you noticed. I do long classes and then no one wants to ask questions. Ok…..Thank you for… This is Srila Prabhupada’s 108th birth anniversary year also and I am starting from Janmashtmi Vyas puja, his 108th birth anniversary year, we are resolved to celebrate that, you remember 8 years ago was 100th Anniversary year, we did a good job, big job, centennial, we wish to do as many things, may be not everything, but as many things as possible to glorify Prabhupada and purify us. I said this is in San Diego and Badri Narayan Prabhu said it’s a nice mantra, nice sutra, Glorify Prabhupada, purify yourselves, satisfy supreme personality of Godhead, the glorification, purification, satisfaction, you glorify Prabhupada, become purified and Krishna is satisfied, nice sutra, this is how it works also, so let us take this opportunity to glorify Prabhupada, purify ourselves, many things different devotees can do, starting with big abhishek of Srila Prabhupada, Rukmani-Dwarkadheesh also, that’s the first item and then many more things to follow, big Mayapur festival, with lots of Prabhupada disciples and grand disciples, they are planning also, please remember, keep this in mind, spread the world around, Prabhupad family reunion in Mayapur, another big item, big marathon also, this year marathon, Is Vijay here? He was here, during centennial that was the biggest marathon of ISKCON’s history and he did it with some planning so, you are on the job. Ok, you are busy devotees and I like to talk…so..
Thank you for your time.
Jai Granthraj Srimad Bhagvatam ki Jai, Srila Prabhupada ki Jai, Rukamani Dwarkadheesh ki jai.
From audience: Lokanath Maharaj ki Jai.

Dhruva Maharaj’s meeting with Nanda and Sunanda

Srimad Bhagavatam verse 4.12.22, (Class at Mayapur)

Maharaj recites the verse:
Tam Krishna-padabhinivishta chetasam
Baddhanjalim prashraya namra kandharam
Sunanda-nadau upasrutya sasmitam
Pratyuchatuh pushkaranabha sammatau

Translation: Dhruva Maharaj was always absorbed in thinking of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna. His heart was full with Krishna. When the two confidential servants of the Supreme Lord, who were named Nanda and Sunanda, approached him, smiling happily, Dhruva stood with folded hands, bowing humbly.

They then addressed him as follows:
Purport: Maharaj reads the purport by Srila Prabhupada:
“In this verse, the word pushkaranabha-sammatau is significant. Krishna, or Lord Vishnu, is known for His lotus eyes, lotus navel, lotus feet and lotus palms. Here, He is called pushkara-nabha, which means “the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who has a lotus navel,” and sammatau means “two confidential or very obedient servants.”

The materialistic way of life differs from the spiritual way of life in that one is disobedience and the other is obedience to the will of the Supreme Lord. All living entities are part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, and they are supposed to be always agreeable to the order of the Supreme person; that is perfect oneness. In Vaikuntha world, all the living entities are in oneness with the Supreme Godhead because they never defy His orders. Here in the material world, however, they are not sammata, agreeable, but always asammata, disagreeable. This human form of life is a chance to be trained to be agreeable to the orders of the Supreme Lord. To bring about this training in society is the mission of the Krishna consciousness movement.

As stated in the Bhagavad-gita, the laws of material nature are very strict; no one can overcome the stringent laws of material nature. But one who becomes a surrendered soul and agrees to the order of the Supreme Lord can easily overcome those stringent laws. The example of Dhruva Maharaj is very fitting. Simply by becoming agreeable to the orders of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and by developing love of Godhead, Dhruva got the chance to personally meet the confidential servants of Lord Vishnu face to face. What was possible for Dhruva Maharaj is possible for everyone. Anyone who very seriously engages in devotional service can obtain, in due course of time, the same perfection of the human form of life.

Maharaj continues to speak:
Beauty of the two confidential associates of the Lord:
The viman (transcendental aircraft) descended and from there came down the two confidential servants of the Lord, Nanda and Sunanda. Their beauty is described in the previous verse 4.12.20. “They were beautiful. They had four hands and a blackish bodily luster, they were very youthful, and their eyes were just like reddish lotus flowers. They held clubs in their hands, and they were dressed in very attractive garments with helmets and were decorated with necklaces, bracelets and earrings.” Such beautiful personalities they were, from out of the world, coming from another world. No one was like them. They were seen by Dhurva maharaj. Soon he realized that they were the servants of Supreme Lord. Immediately he stood up. (Verse 4.12.21).

He was not sure what to do next. He went forward and paid obeisances. He started chanting the holy names of the Lord. As this was all happening, immediately by seeing those two “Urugaya kinkarau” servants of the Lord, he remembered the Lord. This is today’s verse. He started remembering the lotus feet of the Lord or started remembering the Lord from the lotus feet. He was totally absorbed, full absorption, 100%. Krishna says about His devotees in Bhagavad Gita verse 10.9, “mat-chittah, mad–gata-prana.” (The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service). My devotees’ consciousness is glued down to Me. Here Dhurva maharaj’s consciousness is “abhivinishta chetasam”. This is his internal consciousness – absorbed in thinking of the lotus feet of the Lord. Naturally, Dhurva maharaj acted according to what he was thinking. Immediately his hands were folded and he bowed down humbly thinking of the shelter of the Lord. He noticed the two associates of the Lord coming to him, while smiling, looking happy and coming towards him.

The Lord: Pushkara- nabha and His other symptoms are:
These two personalities are described as Purshkara nabha sammatua. “Pushkara nabha”, as the Lord is described in this verse, has seven lotus-like body parts. Some of them are mentioned in the purport – His lotus eyes, lotus navel, lotus feet and lotus palms. Seven parts are pinkish in complexion. There are 32 symptoms of the personality of Mahapurush – like long arms reaching the knees, broad shoulders, raised nose etc. Dhruva maharaj was informed in advance by Narada Muni, “when you follow the process of chanting the mantra, Om Namah Bhagavate Vasudevaya, you will see the Lord. Let me tell you in advance how the Lord would look, so that no one could cheat you by saying I am Bhagavan. Dhruva maharaj did not know how the Lord looked, but Narada Muni gave the whole description in his first dialog with him in several verses in which Narada Muni goes on and on. So one such symptom was raised nose. It is considered as the sign of beauty. In India, in the match making, they look at the nose of the bride (laughter). Unknowingly they know the standard of beauty.

The Lord has raised nose. The Lord has deep voice. When He talks, it is rumbling of clouds. His voice is loud and clear and could spread all over the universe, without the use of microphone. When Lord Narsimha deva was roaring, all over the universe, they were hearing – Oh lion roaring, lion roaring! They were scared. When Krishna plays flute, the sound goes all over. But again, the Lord has complete control over that sound also. When the sound of His flute goes all over Vraja, but not that everyone is listening. Two persons sitting next to each other, one may listen to the sound and one may not. Gopis are always listening to the sound of His flute. They go running and others ask, “hey, what happening?” They know what happened because they heard His flute. So Lord has complete control upon who is allowed to hear and who is not allowed to hear. Not that, He just throws like free cookies and lets it go wherever it lands. He has whole plan – He listens and He doesn’t listen.
His intelligence is deep. His naval is also deep. Some parts of His body are deep. Some parts are raised. So the grand total is 32 symptoms of maha purush.

So Narada muni had given these hints, Lord will be looking like this. When Dhruva maharaj had seen these “pushkaranabha sammatau” – authorized persons or confidential servants of the Lord, he was in fact momentarily bewildered and did not know exactly what does this mean. “Sadvasa vismrutah kramah” (verse 21 – being puzzled and forgetting proper behavior).

Significance of Madhuban:
Same thing had happened to him before. I was looking at the beginning of the pastimes of Dhurva maharaj; when he first had darshan of the Lord in Madhuban, one of 12 forests of Vrindavan, which happens to be just a few kilometers outside of Mathura. On Vraja mandal parikrama, you can visit Madhuban with us. As we start our Vraja mandal parikrama, the very first forest we come across is Madhuban, just outside Mathura.

Dhruva maharaj met his guru maharaja, Narad muni in Mathura on the banks of Yamuna at ‘Dhurva ghat’. He told Dhurva maharaj to go to Madhuban. So on parikrama, we stay there for one day and one night. Parikrama is a little tapasya (austerity). Such a coincidence is that we first go to a place where tapasya was performed. So at this very first stop, we pray to Dhruva maharaj for his mercy so that we are also able to perform some small tapasya on our way to parikrama. That is where he had darshan of the Lord in Satya yuga. Madhuban is a very special place. Of all the four yugas, Satya, Treta, Dvapar and Kali; the Lord appeared there in Madhuban in Satya yuga. This is a great significance of Madhuban. The Lord appeared there to give darshan.

Dhruva’s six months of intense devotional service:
Where Dhruva maharaj was performing austerities called ‘yoga-vipaka-tivraya’ (from Bhagavatam 4.9.2 at the beginning of the pastimes of Dhurva maharaj), what he was doing is described as a very intense program – tivrena bhakti yogena (Bhagavatam 2.3.10 – doing devotional service of the Lord with great force). Dhurva maharaj is known for being very serious, dead serious for an intense devotional program. Satatam kirtayanto mam yatanantas cha dhrida vratah (Bhagavad Gita 9.14 – Always chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me). Dhruva maharaj is known for this dhrida vratah or great determination.

By hearing about the fixed up devotees, by being around the fixed-up devotees, we are benefited. Dhruva means fixed – immovable and unstoppable. Nothing could stop him. Even though he was just a child, he was fixed in his goal of having a meeting with the Supreme Lord. Dhruva maharaj spent six months in Madhuban and within six months, he managed to have darshan of the Lord. He broke all the records. Within six months! Even it took six years for Buddha to become enlightened in Gaya. But Dhruva maharaj did it in six months. In Bombay, when I was in the Hare Krishna movement, not even for six months, I had service of going door to door to beg for rice for ‘food for life’ program. I was just a new bhakta and people would ask me, ‘have you seen God?’ (laughter). I said, I am just a new bhakta for two months; give me some more time. I have been around only for two months. But then six months passed, six years passed, and I am still waiting. (laughter).

Within six months, Dhruva maharaj managed for Lord’s darshan. He went from eating just fruits, then just leaves and then just water, then just air, and then no air, etc. Then Lord appeared, but again Dhruva Maharaj was so much absorbed in internal darshan of the Lord – due to his perfection in yoga, austerity, meditation, and mantra chanting – ‘sa vai dhiya yoga-vipaka-tivraya’ (Srimad Bhagavatam 4.9.2).

There was so much absorption in seeing the Lord internally that even when the Lord came and stood in front of him, he took no note of Lord standing before him. Lord wondered what happened to him. He said, “Hey Dhruva, I am here!” The Lord tried to get his attention. But Dhruva was so much absorbed seeing the Lord within with spiritual vision, divya chakshu. The Lord soon realized, he is taking My darshan from within. So He turned off that screen. Suddenly Dhruva said, “What happened? Did I lose Him?” So as he opened his eyes, Lord who was within was now without – in front of him. Hari bol!

Same bewilderment of Dhruva upon the Lord’s vision and of His servants:
When Dhurva maharaj saw the Lord in front of him, it is described as tad darshanena agata-sadhvasah (Bhagavatam 4.9.3 When Dhruva Maharaj saw his Lord just in front of him, he was greatly confused and offered Him obeisances and respect.). Same thing happened when he saw the two confidential servants of the Lord – Nanda and Sunanda. It is described in the same words as before –sadvasa vismrita kramah (Bhagavatam 4.12.22 – But, being puzzled, in hastiness he forgot how to receive them in the proper way). Dhruva was temporarily bewildered and did not know what to do, what next? Again he showed the same symptoms – he started offering prayers. Very similar situations: when he had first darshan and when he is going back to Godhead, two times, he was going through very similar emotions – while dealing with the Lord and again while dealing with the confidential servants of the Lord.

Drinking the beauty of the Lord, similar to the Gopis:
He offered prayers similar to those that he offered when he saw the Lord in Madhuban, offering dandavats and drinking the beauty of the form of the Lord with his eyes.
The gopis of course are very expert in drinking the beauty of Krishna. They drink the beauty of the Lord; they drink the form of the Lord. They drink and drink and as soon as the Lord is inside their hearts, they close the windows of their eyes. They take Him to the heart and make Him sit on the throne of their hearts and then they deal with the Lord – they communicate and reciprocate with Him. They couldn’t do that outside due to so many social pressures and customs and etiquettes to be followed. So they couldn’t meet with Him outside. So they drink the Lord’s beauty and contemplate.
Dhruva maharaj was doing something similar. He was drinking the beauty of the Lord with his eyes and with the mouth, he was kissing the feet of the Lord; with his arms, he was embracing the Lord. (Bhagavatam 4.9.3) When he had first darshan of the Lord, he saw the lotus feet of the Lord. And now also, when he was ready to go back to Godhead, he is remembering the same lotus feet.

Thus practicing remembrance of the form and beauty of the Lord, training in that way, in total agreement with the Lord; now Dhurva maharaj was remembering the Lord at the final moments of his life.
Pushkara nabha sammatau – in agreement with the Lord:
Srila Prabhupada says the most significant word in this verse is pushkara nabha sammatau’. Pushkara-nabha is the Lord who has lotus navel. Sammatau is one who is agreed upon, one who is recognized, approved by, sanctioned by or favored by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This word ‘sammatah’ appears at various places in Srimad Bhagavatam in over 80 entries.
Pushkara nabha sammatah means agreeing with Pushkara nabha or Supreme Lord.
Sadhu-sammatah meaning approved by the sages.
Shastra-sammatah meaning approved by the scriptures.
Acharya-sammatah meaning approved by and authorized by the acharyas
Prabhupada-sammatah – sanctioned, approved and authorized by Srila Prabhupada.
• Parampara-sammatah – approved by our whole Parampara, disciplic succession.

So this is all crucial and desirable to have all these sanctions and approvals and acceptance and this kind of agreement by the Lord, sadhus, shastras, acharyas, parampara and Srila Prabhupada. That is one whole set of approvals, sanctions, agreements.

Worldly agreements under Maya’s influence:
And then there is the whole world out there and they have their own sanctions and approvals and agreements etc. That is how the brain washing goes on in the whole world, life after life. Bahunam janmanam ante! After many many births, there comes a moment in one’s life – gyanavan mam prapadyate – a person becomes bhagyavan (fortunate) by the Lord’s causeless mercy, and he comes to know ‘Vasudevam sarvam iti’. Vasudeva is all in all – this much knowledge he gains– such soul is rare – sa mahatma is sudurlabha. (Bhagavad Gita 7.19)

Hare Krishna movement – training to agree with the Lord and disagree with maya:
Srila Prabhuapda is pointing out in the purport that the Hare Krishna movement is the program to train the souls (devotees) in Godly agreement; to get rid of that materialistic agreement with people , like camels, ashes, the stool eater hogs – the materialist men are agreeing upon different things and praising each other and what not. In Hare Krishna movement, one learns to get out of all those materialistic agreements, kick all that and to just go for such training as ‘sarva dharman parityaja mamekam saranam vraja’ (Bhagavad Gita 18.66: Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me) by which we are trained to agree with the Lord – Radha Madhava sammatah. This is authorized by Him. This is Hare Krishna mission, learning to agree with the Lord, and disagree with maya – external energy of the Lord. We are in this business.

Srila Prabhuapda writes in the purport:
“What was possible for Dhruva Maharaj is possible for everyone. Anyone who very seriously engages in devotional service can obtain, in due course of time, the same perfection of the human form of life as Dhurva maharaj.”

Dhruva maharaj ki jay! Gaura premanande Hari bol!

/strong, you will see the Lord. Let me tell you in advance how the Lord would look, so that no one could cheat you by saying I am strongHare Krishna mission

Lokanath Maharaj on concentrating on chanting

Suprabhat’ you understand, Good. That’s how it is translated. There’s a big difference between the two. Prabha, prabhat, here ‘bha’ means ‘light’. From bha comes bhaskar, there is bhaskar sabhagruha. ‘Bha’. We are also, the country that we stay in is called ‘Bharat’. This country, that is absorbed in ‘bha’, meaning absorbed in ‘light’. Then, from the light comes the delight. So in the morning, we get good sun. Lot of countries do not even see light of the day, like England and several countries. They just have to be satisfied saying ‘suprabhatam’, they just say good morning for other purposes.

Its a very good morning, good afternoon or good night, if we are on the brighter side, on the side of the light and also in a place where Bhagavat Gita was spoken, ‘Kurukshetra’, doesn’t use ‘bha’, ‘jyotisar’ sar is ‘shrot’, source of light. So the Bhagavat Gita is also source of light ‘tamso ma jyotirgamaya’ don’t stay in the darkness, go to the light and ofcourse the source of the light is not just the sun. Sun, it acts like a mirror. It just borrows and then reflects the light, light that comes from the Lord. Lord’s form is brilliant, He is brilliant. ‘Koti surya samaprabha’, again prabha is here ‘Koti surya samaprabha’, when the lord appears anywhere, on some planets, some universe. And this sun that we have, would be like a candle, in front of the effulgence, emanating from the Lord’s body. So originally light comes, anywhere there’s light that comes from the Lord. And you cannot see anything without that light.

At the night, when there it is a pitch dark, you open your eyes, find, go ahead open your eyes but do you see, unless Lord shows you with the light. Ok OK here here is a light. So how much dependent we are on the lord. For everything, we are dependent. Even stalk of seeing we depend upon him, unless there’s light, we cannot see and light you may say coming from the sun but Sun is also one of the eyes of the Lord, he has two, one is ‘shashisuryayo’ one is sun and one is moon. Only when the Lord opens his eyes in the form of sun or moon, the world is able to see. First person to see is Lord and then we are the next one. We kind of get the remnants. After Lord has seen, then we are the secondary seers of anything, This is knowledge. To know this, is knowledge, this is vidya. Contrary to all this is avidya. Vidya – avidya. So you are vidyarthi, ‘arthi’ vidyarthi, you are accumulating vidya, accumulators of vidya. So we could go on talking like this, however, I am also asked to focus on the topic of chanting. I don’t know whether you were told, as per schedule, this topic was for tomorrow morning, Radheshyam prabhu decided to shift that to this morning. So now we wish to begin our day. Infact, your day did begin at 4.30 in the morning and you already had been chanting

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare”.

So something that you had been doing for past several years, on and off, or regularly, some chanting. You are all chanting, you are all chanters of the holy name and this morning, you have chanted. So there is no need of the talk really, like after, someone had taken his meal and he is satisfied and he knows, right? No one else has to tell you. Oh! Now you are satisfied. You must be contented or happy now as you had big meal or big feast. Does someone else need to tell this to the person who has just finished nice ten course meal? Yes, does anyone else to tell? Likewise, I’m confident that also in the atmosphere like this, almost, like the forest of ‘Naimisharanya’ here. And only difference is there were 80,000 sages had assembled. Now the numbers are little smaller, right. There were 80 or 88 and there were 88,000 and we are 80 or few extras accept one dog barking (laughs). There is nothing else, you could hear because for chanting, you need peaceful surroundings. Physically, your aasan before you go for chanting, the goal is Samadhi ‘ashtanga yoga’ and in between, there is a aasan, your situation and pratyyahar, dharna, dhyan, dharna, samadhi , these things are also applicable to chanting. So aasan which doesn’t refer to the physical seat that you are sitting on, but even the place that building or the hall that you are sitting in and where the hall is situated and again that whole hall and other things where are they stationed. Aasan is not limited to two feet by two feet patch. Aasan refers to what is around you; your surroundings is also the part of the aasan. So this is conducive atmoshere for chanting the holy names of the Lord, but everything is just the favourable, aasan is proper. And again there are timings they are favourable and not so favourable timings for chanting the holy name.

For chanting, concentration is required. With the concentration, with attention we chant. So in order to have that attention, we need some external help; we need some help surrounding us, proper aasan, even the company, the good company or the best thing is that others are also chanting around you, people around you, they are also chanting. That helps you, that inspires you to be absorbed in what you are doing, you are chanting and others are, whatever fighting, others are running hither and thither. What would happen? Naturally, you would get distracted by their physical run around and specially this kind of sounds that they are chanting, that shouting, they would reach your ears and what would be the next thing? You would be compelled to think about what they are talking, and that’s distraction. If they are not talking about the Lord or talking about the chanting or not chanting then that sound vibration by them will cause distraction so these are the favourable and then favourable timings we were talking, the day is divided into three parts.

Early morning hours are dominated by goodness ‘Satvagun’. The day times are, is of passion, the run around, the rat-race and night times are the darker side ‘Tamogun’. Of the three, which one is the best time you think for chanting? Goodness! My goodness, my goodness, everything is good. You have just woken up, your mind is fresh, the world is fast asleep, that’s nice! Let them sleep because as soon as they get up, they are going to make lot of noise or your phones are going to be ringing, tring, tring, tring, tring, tring. So while others are, of course good if everyone would be up. And this would happen in good old days. People used to get up early in the morning hours called ‘brahmamuhurta’ and chant the holy name. If you want to realise ‘parabrahma paramdham’ that is Supreme Lord. So the best time brahmamuhurta, muhurta you would know that. Before doing any activity, usually the reference, they refer to jyotish, jyotishi. He knows good times, bad times that’s ‘muhurt’. So for doing spiritual activities is already once and for all, muhurta is declared. What muhurt? Which time? Brahmamuhurt. It is one hour and 48 minutes or something before sunrise. That time is Brahmamuhurt and is most favourable time. If you wish to have a link with the Lord, so when we chant Hare Krishna, this is also yoga. Which yoga is this? This is bhakti yoga, in which bhakti is involved and this is the top most thing. So while we are chanting.

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare”.

We chant with bhakti , with the prayerful mood, mood full of prayers. Even Srila Prabhupada goes to the extent saying,”crying like a baby.” Chanting, crying like a baby for help. Oh! Lord, please help, please pick me up, I am your child. Please engage me in your service. So we need to keep our mind praying like that, crying like that. So then it is ‘bhakti yoga’. Bhakti and yoga, what is yoga part? Yoga means to link. Yoga is linking, so what are we linking with here with Krishna. Which Krishna are we linking with, as we chant the holy name of the lord Krishna? Which form of the Lord Krishna? Krishna has many forms. Namrupa, one of the rupa, one of the form of Lord is his name. One of his avatar, Lord takes avatar, he descends.

He talks in Bhagavat Gita, ‘sambhavami yuge yuge’. Once in one age, one yuga, Lord appears. And what about now, we need Lord now. So Lord is willing to appear everyday but not only again once a day. But any part of the day and night. When does Lord appear? Whenever his devotees are calling him, Lord appears. Draupadi was in trouble, in difficulty, you know that. Dhusshasan on one side and Draupadi on other side, she struggles so that she would not be disrobed by this ‘roag’ Dhusshasan. Not sushyasan, not nice. Shasan means administrator, he was a bad, worst administrator. So she was trying, holding with both hands, the saree. She was protesting, protecting herself. That was not working out. Then saree with one hand, crying and praying with one hand. Did that work? It also didn’t work, finally she realised, “I have no strength, I am ‘abala’ means stree. Abala not much strength. So she decided to depend upon the Lord. She had both of her hands up and she cried out, “Hey Krishna, Hey Govinda.”

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare”.

You may say, “Oh! no Dhusshasan is troubling me. Why I should pray, cry unnecessarily? Everything is so nice here”. But infact that is not so nice also or things are just waiting, sufferings of all sorts are waiting. Janma, mrityu, jara, vyadhi is all waiting and this could be described. If you hear the description how we are always in difficulty and always in a place described by the Lord as he is describing this world as ‘dukhalayam’ ‘dukhalayam’ which we are trying to make it into a sukhalay and this attempt is going on for past billions of years. Since the beginning of creation and we have not succeeded. But this generation thinks,”just give us as few more years by 2020, we’ll have this as sukhalaya” (laughter). But no, we cannot change the nature of this world. It is programmed to be dukhalaya and it will remain so forever. So we are in difficulty, in very awkward position, situation we are in, this is part of the knowledge also. Just ignoring that there’s no suffering or finding just little relief is not the way out, we want the solution to the problem. Again in Krishna’s words this ‘Janma, mrityu, jara, vyadhi dukhadoshanudarshanam’. Even the most intelligent, one of the most intelligent person Shankaracharya is praying. Last night also we were repeating:
“punarapi jananam punarapi maranam punarapi janani jathare shayanam, yah samsare khalu dustare very difficult this is to overcome these difficulties, so kripaya pahi pahe Murari”. “Oh! Murari! Please protect me.”

These are wise men. Madhvacharya, Ramanujacharya all these are wise men, all these aacharyas, Tukaram Maharaj and the list is huge, big and the list of the scientists, Madhavacharya was a scientist. Did you know that? Ramanujacharya leading scientist of this world, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, there are hundreds and thousands of names of the scientists in this world. Lets define it in simple definition. One who knows the science is scientist. These personalities they knew the science. The science of the soul, science of the Supreme soul or even science of how this world is created. How many species are there? They knew everything, the reality as it exists. Not some mental concoctions and mental speculations. They knew the shastras, the Bhagavat Gita, the Vedas, puranas, Vedanta sutra and Upanishads, and Mahabharata and Srimad Bhagavatam. These are the shastras, this is shastra and one who knows shastra is shastradnya. These are shastras. Everything infact, you need to know is in there.

Let’s go back to the chanting. It’s related. So we want to link with the holy name of the Lord while chanting the holy name and this is called bhakti yoga. Chanting with devotion, chanting attentively the names and then the Lord appears. This is the point we were making. So Draupadi called out in all helplessness and Lord appeared. So when the mood like Draupadi is there, mood of the chanter, then Lord appears. When those circumstances, similar circumstances, that kind of state of mind and intense prayer then Lord appears and the chanter of the holy name, he feels the presence. And in advanced stage, one could see the form of the Lord right in front of your eyes as a result of this chanting. And once you have the Lord, then you have everything, why only something. Actually, we are the proprietors, you know what are we proprietors of? We are the proprietors of this whole universe. Because that is our father’s property. Do you think that it’s your father’s property. You are making such claims. Yes, yes this whole universe is our father’s property.

Sab bhumi Gopal ki.

“Esha vashyam edam sarvam, yad kinchit jagtam jagat teen tyakteen bhunjita, mam kasya kris dhanam”

As good sons, we take only a small portion, that’s enough for me and I remain satisfied. So we are rich man’s sons. He’s not just a man, he is Supreme Personality, Supreme Father of all of us. This is his property. This is his planet. This is his universe and we are his sons. Why should we be satisfied with something little? Why not own the universe? Ya we become owners of the universe and as good sons, we remain satisfied with “teen tyak teen bhunjita” He has given you your quota and be happy with it. This would be possible, only possible if we are chanters of the holy name of the Lord and knowers of what we are talking here. We know, knowledgeable we are. The chanting of the holy names of the Lord will satisfy us. We will be happy, we will be happy to realise the Lord. We will be happy. This whole experience of joy and happiness, this is a blissful experience of chanting the holy name and then some basic necessity and we are done with it. Simple living and high thinking, high thinking, high thinking. So those who are high thinkers, high thinkers they will be happy with simple living. Keep it simple stupid(laughter). Keep it simple. But you won’t keep it simple unless you are a wise man, knowledgeable person or unless you chant the holy names of the lord and be happy.

Infact happiness doesn’t depend on anything outside. Even if you are given the whole world, you won’t be happy. You know the attempt is being made to reduce the number of people on this planet with the scheme called? What is that scheme? What is the strategy of the government called family planning? Big name under that comes number of things there, abortion. Family planning in good old days, the women they used to get ashtaputra saubhagyavati (laughter). I bless you to have how many? (Devotees: Eight) minimum. Now there’s a different formula. So 40 years ago they were saying,”Hum do humare do.” “We 2 and we have 2. Gradually they have changed. “We 2 and we have 1.” So systematic attempt is being made to decrease the population so that each one of us will have more to enjoy. More spacing facility, more clothing, more this, more that. Less people will share all that exists. Each one of us will have something more, best idea and then we’ll be happy. This is how the fools are thinking. But imagine by cutting down the population, cutting and cutting and cutting and reducing, finally, there are two people on the planet. You have successed in doing this family planning and now the success is there are only two people on this planet. Are they going to be happy? What each person is going to think? What? What will you think? Two is too many, two is too many. There should be only one. This is the conditioning, this is the disease which Krishna has spoken 5000 years ago in Bhagavat Gita. The conditioned soul thinks ‘Eshvaro Aham’ I am Eshvar. So he won’t be satisfied unless everything is his. But that dream would never be realised. So just decreasing the population so that each one of us will have more to enjoy. More, whatever more, that’s not how it works, no way.

We already said that our happiness does not depend on anything outside. What we really need to satisfy is ourselves, by satisfying your senses your bodies and the bodies of your
family members or bodies, ok extend this ego. You may want to include more people of your community and satisfy their bodies or further expand, include whole countries population, the country men and you may want to finally include all the humanity at large and try to satisfy their senses and the minds and the bodies . They would never be satisfied till when? Till what is satisfied? Last night also, we talked whole hierarchy is there. The material world is out there which is full of sense objects and above the senses is what? Mind above the mind. Some people are intellectual being and they try to satisfy their intellect, intelligence. They don’t so much care for their body and mind. They only try to nourish their intellect. That is satisfied.

You would not be satisfied unless and until so ‘he’ ‘you’, the real ‘you’ in’ you’ is satisfied, then you are satisfied. So what is that real you in you? Who are you? This the first thing first when we would know this, when we would learn this ABC. Happy happy we shall be when we learn our ABC. This is ABC. Who am I? This ABC or otherwise you may be PHD and all that. Not happy, not possible. No one is ever become happy just by these degrees so that so that again you could have a good job and you can make money and enjoy, no you suffer, Lord doesn’t want us to suffer, Lord wants us to be happy. Chant Hare Krishna and be happy. And when the soul is happy, when you are happy, then few basic needs and everything is taken care of. Even Mahatma Gandhi used to talk this, you should be happy in what you need. Need is ok, but if you are bothered by the greed then that greed will drive you mad all life long. This is what the rat-race is all about which is in motion. We are little behind in India but we are catching up with that race. Do you think this would make us happy? But we don’t realise that the greed is giving us dictation. We could become happy with some basic needs. But once you have enemy, this greed is one of the six enemies of humanity at large starting with kam, krodh, lobh, maad, moh, matsarya. These are the six enemies.

Greed, being greedy is you are attacked by your enemy. But these days you are encouraged to become greedy and how you could grab and for that purpose you become intelligent so that you could learn grabbing. There if you go with the ‘kaichi’ , scissors into the pick pocketting, then you will be behind the bars. Now if you want to transfer the money from others pocket to your pocket. But there are other smart people . They learn the art and science, how to grab the money? How to transfer the money from others account to your account in a legal way, in an authorised way, grab more, exploit more, and more or accumulate more and more and be happy this doesn’t work like that, so this chanting of Hare Krishna, infact, this is all you need and by chanting of Hare Krishna.

You have the Lord with you and he satisfies you. He pleases you. You are pleased with your Lord. He is also Lord of your heart, he is also Lord of your family member. He is also Lord of your neighbours and friends and countrymen and humanity at large. Let them chant the holy names of the Lord and we see so many. Even Guru Nanak. What do we see him doing? What is he doing?Chanting, even chanting, lot of people. Even Buddhist, you go to the. What are the places called? Montesary (laughs), monestry you go and they have rosary and they are chanting, Christianity, they also have rosary and they are chanting. This chanting is a universal thing and not only Hare Krishna’s are chanting. But in fact, all the religions they stress this chanting thing. What we call japa meditation which could also be called japa yoga. Yoga means linking with the Lord. So you are all the chanters of this holy name. You already have taken to this chanting. Chant. Keep chanting. Chant little more and you will experience for yourself, we have seen people. They are ‘Nisckinchan’, they are pennyless but they are chanting the Lord and they are the happiest people on the Earth while others, they have big big beds. You could buy bed but not sleep. You cannot buy sleep in the market. You could buy food but not the hunger like that.

People’s peace of mind is disturbed and they are greedy and lusty and angry and what not as they are, they will never be satisfied. Unless they turn to Krishna to Sri Rama and we turn to the Lord with chanting the holy names of the Lord. Lord has made His access very easy by chanting the holy names of the Lord. This vibration of chanting, this is nondifferent from the Lord. This chanting is a very big topic. It’s a big big science. It could be approached, it’s a science. It’s a science. It’s very scientific, results are also there. You do this and you go there and then, this happens and then this happens. Ofcourse, While you are chanting you have to keep your mind focused while chanting, while chanting your mind is bothering, your mind must be dragging you here there and so it’s not just sitting idle there. But you have to be very active . You should be sitting motionless you are not moving. But your mind is going to be bothering you at the time of chanting. More botherations of the mind comes during chanting. Other times mind is relaxed, absorbed. But when you are trying to bring your mind closer to the Lord, the conditioned mind ” No, No, No don’t bring me closer to the Lord” no I want to be there’s a big tug of war during chanting. Chanting is not a peaceful time. It is a war time. This is the time to fight. In the war, you have to fight and you would require help of what?

To tame the mind, to subdue the mind. To keep mind peaceful what would you need? Here help of, help of association. What else? Last night we were talking. Intelligence you need intelligence. With intelligence you will have to control this mind while chanting. Keep focused on chanting the holy names of the lord. So in our ISKCON several leaders also have written several books and seminars and volumes have been written on the science of japa and chanting. How much could we say in one sitting. There’s so much to talk about, this is a science. We are spending 20 years, 30 years to learn, a branch of knowledge, some science. But this is no small science. This is science first of all, results are there. So listeners think this chanting is only for some people only for religious people. Are you a soul? Is anyone here not a soul. You would not be here? If you had no soul or you are soulless then what would happen? When there is no soul but the body is there then what happens? Ramnam satya hai, immediately the body is useless. What’s the difference between the living body and dead body?

Difference is of the soul. We are all souls everybody here is a soul . If you are a soul then this chanting is for you. We want to make humanity happy. Lord knows we are children of god, why would he wanting us to suffer. He already knows that we are suffering i.e. why he is giving us the way out. Don’t suffer, be happy. This was Prabhupad’s mantra,”Chant Hare Krishna and be happy”. So we want you all to be happy. This is what Prabhupada wants, I want, Radheshyam prabhu wants and so many other personalities, mahatmas. They are well wishers. Mahatma is a well wisher of the society. ‘Paradukha dukhi’ why did Prabhupada leave that peaceful atmosphere of Vrindavan? Why did he go to America? Why did he go 14 times around the world? He knew that people are suffering ‘Paradukha dukhi’, he was dukhi in Vrindavan to see people suffering. So he wanted to do something on behalf of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and this is what he did. And as a result of chanting, he saw even hippies became happies. With the pride Prabhupad would we heard him saying this, “Even hippies have become happies.” If hippies could become happy then we are not that big of a hippy. We are not some traits may be there in us. So they were in intense care unit those hippies. Gone cases, dropouts and what not, they were cured by chanting the holy names of the lord. We are not that bad we have just little fever, little headache, routine disease This sickness, we could be cured instantly by chanting holy name of the Lord. So please keep chanting and share this chanting with others.

Encourage others to chant this holy name. You don’t have to be first, first I will follow all regulative pronciples “Oh still I’m doing this thing or that thing. I am still drinking tea or I’m still doing” this that, I want to first stop this and then take to the chanting, no keep chanting and if you really wish to give up some bad habits, some sinful activity, you will be able to give it up, kick it out of your life. Kick that bad thing with the help of chanting take to the chanting, your job will be a lot easier, so you don’t have to work so hard as the world is working so hard to accumulate more and more and more and try to enjoy their senses and body and they’ll never become happy. So learn this technique, science of becoming happy and you are already on the path of becoming engineers and doctors and professionals. Yes, we wish you all success. But at the same time, everyone has to be a devotee of Krishna whether you are doctor or professor or javan or kisan or doesn’t matter who you are, we want Krishna Consciousness, God consiousness is for everyone. Only some people would be doctors some would be engineers, some people lawyers, some people farmer, some may be soldiers but everyone has to be a devotee of Krishna devotee of lord. This is common for everybody.

Arjun was a devotee. He was a big fighter. And do not think people of this India. They knew this technology. You go to South India, see what kind of temple they have built, the masterpieces. They are 5000 years old, they are thousands and thousands of years old. Marvelous architect, the beauty and heights! You think they did not know technology, they did not know architect, they did not know engineering. Everything that you need to know is there, it is there in sastras. This is what we are talking, Sthapatya sastras and so many. Even subtle sciences and we knew this.

There was a time when people came from all over the world came to India to learn and their learning was not considered complete. “Oh! You had been to India? Did you go to that Nalanda University? Or did you go to that Takshashila University? Are you a student of that University?” They were teaching everything from A to Z. Not just chanting or puja, all practical things. The health, you name it, the hygiene, what, administration and what else you name it and it was being taught by the rishis and munis and people came from all over the world. Jesus Christ was in India. He became learned in India. Big big scholars used to come in India to Bharatvarsha to learn. And then they would go and teach there, this is how the knowledge was spreading. I just recently read one article. One big Chinese scholar, he visited India and he was astonished by the learning that was going on in India, he was captivated. He was a big leading scholar, What is his name? Ya difficult Chinese name (laughter). So finally he toured India and he was so much impressed and he wanted to share this with his countrymen. He took lots of scriptures with him, big big loads and he also took some men, who would interpret, explain those scriptures back in their China after some journey on their land. They had to travel by boat to get back to China. So during their journey in the ocean, there was winds and some turbulence. So they thought, ”we need to download some of these extra luggage, some baggage, some weight here.” Otherwise the boat is going to drowned here in the middle of the ocean. So they were thinking of downloading, of throwing some of those manuscripts, some books into the ocean. Some, but those Indians ‘Bharat pandits, scholars’, they told ”no no hands off”. If you wish to minimise some burden, some weight. Why dont you throw us into the ocean? Or we are ready to jump off and give up our lives. The scriptures are more important, more valuable than our lives. They were ready to sacrifice.

Knowing the value, the knowledge in depth complete knowledge in those scriptures. So we are leaders and India had been leader and we will remain so forever. This is a false propaganda. As we remained slaves for 1000 years, for 1000 years India remain slaves of Muslims and then Britishers came and they had done such a good brain washing. Everything Indian, low class and everything west is high class and like that. And unfortunately, leaders of this country, not realising this value of what India stands for? But amongst those leaders were Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada ki jai…………. He pointed out the value of India’s culture and knowledge and the wealth of the holy name again

We want to make India wealthy. Wealth is meant to buy something which will satisfy you. But your rupees and dollars are not what you buy is not satisfying you. But the chanting of the holy name which is real wealth. ‘Goloker premdhan’ harinam sankirtan. This will satisfy you. Take this wealth of this holy name and become wealthy. If someone asks you,”Oh! Where did you go
, we had to gone become wealthy, we have come here. Three days seminar we had, we wanted to be enriched”. “Where did you go?” we went to become enrich, become richer. Rich in culture, rich in knowledge, rich in spirituality, rich or souls becoming rich. So go on becoming richer and richer, rich person is happy right this is the notion. Everyone we have to become rich to be happy but not the kind of rich the world is talking about. Your soul has to be rich enrich then you’ll be happy. So chant:

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare”.

We guarantee you that you will be happy. If you don’t become, take us to the court, complain. Like last year also I could meet you, after one year, you could fine me. So it’s guaranteed. This is the guarantee given by the Lord. Ok I took few extra minutes of you and again your breakfast is going to be late, dinner was late last night. I come to spoil your schedule and your routine program. But again I was very happy to be associated with youths of India we feel also young in asand it will remain so forever. So we are in difficulty, in very awkward position, situation we are in, this is part of the knowledge also. Just ignoring that there’s no suffering or finding just little relief is not the way out, we want the solution to the problem. Again in Krishna’s wor/emem/emd/strongs this sociation, old as we are becoming in association. You are boiling with enthusiasm and energy. So it’s nice again I want to express my joy to see youths of this great nation India are stepping forwards to know the treasures, the hidden treasures, our forefathers have left behind them. We need’ means to find this and you are searching looking and, you will find Hare Krishna movement will keep guiding you with the help of sastras and sadhus and acharayas. They are wise men, they were not drunkard, they were not gamblers, they were not women hunters, they were not meat eaters. You could be knowledgeable but you could be women hunter, you may be scientist but you could be a drunkard, you could be so called leaders but you could be meat eater. That is not civilized, when we are talking of civilization, civilized so you are going for that treasure, that wealth, that knowledge. So as you pursue your paths you are simultaneously investing your time and energy in, then life would be complete. This mundane pursuit is not the way because we are not only body, we are souls we have to take care of body and soul, you have now both, and this is complete.

Thank you.
H.H. Lokanath Swami Maharaj ki jai!!

Lokanath Maharaj on following instructions of spiritual master

Maharaja asking should the class be in English? Then what about hindi bhasi devotees. Devotees arranged for hindi translation.
So we are reading from canto 3, chapter 24, verse 12.
brahmovaca
tvaya me ‘pacitis tata
kalpita nirvyalikatah
yan me sanjagrhe vakyam
bhavan manada manayan

Word for word:
brahma — Lord Brahma; uvaca — said; tvaya — by you; me — my; apacitih — worship; tata — O son; kalpita — is accomplished; nirvyalikatah — without duplicity; yat — since; me — my; sanjagrhe — have completely accepted; vakyam — instructions; bhavan — you; mana-da — O Kardama (one who offers honor to others); manayan — respecting.

Translation:
Lord Brahma said, “My dear son Kardama, since you have completely accepted my instructions without duplicity, showing them proper respect, you have worshiped me properly. Whatever instructions you took from me you have carried out, and thereby you have honored me.”

Purport:
Lord Brahma, as the first living entity within the universe, is supposed to be the spiritual master of everyone, and he is also the father, the creator, of all beings. Kardama Muni is one of the Prajapatis, or creators of living entities, and he is also son of Brahma. Brahma praises Kardama because he carried out the orders of the spiritual master in totol and without cheating. The conditioned soul in material world has disqualification of cheating. He has four disqualifications: He is sure to commit mistakes, he is sure to be illusioned, and he is prone to cheat others, and his senses are imperfect. But if one carries out the order of the spiritual master by disciplic succession, or parampara system, he overcomes the four defects. Therefore, knowledge received from the bona fide spiritual master is not cheating. Any other knowledge which is manufactured by the conditioned soul is cheating only. Brahm? knew well that Kardama Muni exactly carried out the instructions received from him and that he actually honored his spiritual master.

The conclusion of the purport: To honor the spiritual master means to carry out his instructions word for word.

brahmovaca
tvaya me ‘pacitis tata
kalpita nirvyalikatah
yan me sanjagrhe vakyam
bhavan manada manayan

Translation again Lord Brahma said, “My dear son Kardama, since you have completely accepted my instructions without duplicity, showing them proper respect, you have worshiped me properly. Whatever instructions you took from me you have carried out, and thereby you have honored me.”

Lord Brahma ki Jai! Kardam muni ki Jai! Very good combination, like father like son. Father is Brahma and the son is Kardam, Kardam muni, Brahma is not only father but is also a spiritual master of the whole world, he is also the first living entity, not only the architect and engineer of this world but also the spiritual master. Not only he deals with the matter but certainly very expert with the spiritual matter. Brahma is talking to Kardam muni, he apparently is very pleased with Kardam muni, he has met and he has come to acknowledge what he just now accomplished. And thank you, well done, take a picture, good boy. “tvaya me ‘pacitis tata,” tata he is addressing Kardam muni as tata or son. Oh! Child. Brahma also addresses Kardam muni as Manada, sambodana, Oh! Manad Oh! Giver of the respect. He was known for giving respect and in this case also Manayana, you have given respect to me. I have experienced it personally. Not only it’s for name, manada, or they call you manada but you are practicing, manayana, your activities are manayana, always respecting others. So hence you are manada manada manayana Oh! Tata, oh! Son Kardam muni, you have ‘pacitis, worshipped me. Not just by offering flowers, which is also done or offering garlands or offering prayers but how have you worshipped me. “yan me sanjagrhe vakyam,” mode of your worship is this “guru-mukha-padma-vakya, cittete koriya aikya.” I gave you some instructions, vayakas, and you have followed them, sanjagrhe, samyakprakaren, you have gone deeper into the details of that instruction and you have carried out my instructions. Kalpita, you have performed a good performance and the best thing is nirvyalikatah, your activities or what you followed my instructions “me vakyam” and they were followed without duplicity, no duplicity, no cheating of any kind, you were very sincere and straight forward and Srila Prabhupad writes in the purport, we are going back to that statement. Brahma praises Kardam because he carried out instructions of spiritual master in totol that is sanjagrhe, thats one thing and without duplicity, that is nirvyalikatah. So that activity was he brought it to completion, you didn’t leave in the middle and did it thoroughly, good job and it was without duplicity and Brahma is very very happy. Haibol! You are happy or not happy? (Devotees are happy) some of you are trying to go to bed. (Laughter). We have to do job of hearing, good job in totol and job of chanting, present in this purport. Purport after purport after purport nirvyalikatah. I will do it, I am doing it nirvyalikatah. When I read this verse, came across this word, yes, without duplicity, I was reminded of Srila Prabhupad. Myself, Kirtan Maharaj and Prithu Putra, when we had taken sannyasa, just took sannyasa in Krishna Balaram temple courtyard. Then we followed Srila Prabhuapad to his quarters and we were interested in changing our name or any change in our assignment or any other personal instructions. We were curious, so went in Prabhupad quarters and Prabhuapad said, “add swami to your name, no change in name and go.” He did not say to go to Africa, he sent us back to Bombay, we had come from Bombay, the Bombay bramhacharis and regarding instructions, he gave one. I remember one, I will never forget that one instruction that he gave.

Man Mana bhava mada bhakto, mad-yaji mam namaskuru.

You do these four things in the world, all those four items and he said do this, do these four things and do it without duplicity and you will be successful. To give instructions, it takes little time, takes 30 seconds to say, but then to follow that instruction, it takes a life time, lifetime preparation, it’s a life time task. Do it without duplicity, remembering, remembrance of the lord, becoming devotee of the lord, worshiping the lord and offering obeisances unto lord. Do this, without duplicity, so many other things could be said, without this, without that, without this flaw or that defect, anartha, this aparadha, no no chant Hare Krishna and be happy, chant 16 rounds daily, your name is such and such before that I will follow four regulative principles and contract is signed, ok, you are initiated now. That takes only one minute but to follow that instruction in totol and without duplicity, it could take bahu nama janma nama, chanting the holy name.

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare”

We always say this, known thing, as soon as someone begins Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, in the class everyone else fills in the blanks, we know the mantra but then how we chant, how much we chant? Chanting 16 rounds, so we follow the instruction so when we get to chant 16 rounds are above the main instruction which we get some general instruction, some specific instructions, chant 16 rounds daily is common instruction given to all of us. Srila Prabhupad writes just follow one instruction, infact whole life is meant for just to follow that one instruction, chant Hare Krishna. “Harer nameva kevalam” nothing is more important (laughs), you chant Hare Krishna, you are also seva yogam kuru, one of the prayer is please make me fit for seva, you are chanting, chanting but you are begging for service. You have chanted and chanted and chanted but not rendered service, your chanting is incomplete, you have not done in totol. I used to chant like that when I was new devotee, I would like to sit around the area of temple and not so much eager to go out, go here, go there. My parents were not very happy . Brahma is happy with Kardam muni (laughs) and even Prabhupad gave me the name, not my siksha guru also, he gave me name that you are Samadhi dasa (laughter). Samadhi is not like real Samadhi, kind of absorption, no activity. You are Samadhi das.
So on chanting, from chanting comes, from name comes the form of the Lord, in spiritual technology, from Sabdha comes Rupa, from name comes form. In the beginning, there was a word and that word was recalled, Sabdha, from Sabdha comes form, so nama, rupa , guna, lila and dham. From “Name to Dham,” this activity also, you chant the holy name, you follow instruction of chanting the holy name of the Lord and the desired result expectation is that chanting of holy name gives you dham from nama to dham going back to home, we are going back to home, devotees in the west, they talk in English, we are going back to Godhead, home, with guitar and that we are going back to Godhead, we are going, so this going back to Godhead, from nama to dhama, we get the name to chant the holy name of the lord but then when we have to keep chanting and chanting and chanting till we realize that name is non different from the Lord. Oh! This name is the Lord.

“Nama chintamani caitanya rasa vigraha nitya suddha mukta abhinatvam, abhinatvam nama namino”

Infact this is the whole work, we have to keep chanting and of course and just recite the words within first six months, ofcourse, life in Krishna Consciousness we may come front with these words. You have learned by heart and it is just on the tip of your tongue, say it grammatical, you have to break it down, break it to the roots of this, this path.

“Bhaj Govindam bhaj govindam muddha matee”

But you are forgetting you are doing all this “Nahi nahi lakshati dukram karne” what you should be doing is “bhaj govindam” these are the verses we should understand and realize, we should worship Govinda. So chanting and chanting and chanting, keep chanting till you drop dead. Miles to go before we sleep, miles to go before we sleep, let us wish all the best miles to go before we sleep, it doesn’t refer this sleep is not (makes snoring sound) sleeping, sleeping is death. Miles to go before we sleep, long way to go, long way to go, long way to go, don’t stop. Uttistha, jagrata. Keep going you have this boon of human form of life, keep going, moving and he also reminds, the woods are lovely dark and deep, the woods were, world is woods, jungle, concrete jungle of Delhi and Noida, concrete jungle, the woods are lovely, dark, deep and appealing and griller, this, that but don’t get distracted in the world, the woods are lovely, dark and deep, miles to go, do not forget, miles to go before you sleep, miles to go before you sleep.
Chanting, chanting, chanting what so we have to go in Abhinatva Nama Namino, abhina nama of the Lord is nondifferent from the Lord. Rrupa of the Lord, nama, rupa is same. Oh! Here is the Lord you come in front of the deity, it’s very easy. Here is the Lord, here is the Lord but “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare” here is the Lord, here is the Lord, here is, this is the Lord, this Hare Krishna Hare Krishna is the Lord. No less than Lord, standing in front of us and this Hare Krishna Hare Krishna is the form and Quality of this Lord. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Lord is not different from Radha Parthasarthi Lord, Radha Shyamsundar Lord, Radha Gopinath Lord, Lord Radha Gopinath is Hare Krishna, Radha Gopinath is Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Radha Govind is Hare Krishna, Radha Govind is Hare Krishna. So we get the instructions to follow that in totol.
Oh! Have you seen God? I just started preaching, finally I started preaching and I as I was going door to door in society around Juhu in Mumbai. People would ask you are talking, have you seen God and I used to say come on I have just joined! (laughter). At least give me six months, you know, Dhruva Maharaj had six months. Dhruva Maharaj took six months and Siddartha Buddha, he took six years and I was having six days or six weeks. I was thinking, I was thinking very soon, very soon, one of these days, one of these months, one of these years I am going to see him; I want to see him (singing). Who is that? Oh! My Lord. Oh! My sweet Lord! I want to see you, I want to see you. I used to think soon I am going to see him; soon I am going to see him. One time I am going to see him, but yes goal is to see him, why not, goal is to see him and so we are chanting and from chanting, darshan will be possible, form, from nama comes rupa, realization of the holy name “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare.”.
To live, you are suppose to do just chanting. It doesn’t require anything more than that. Do this perfectly without duplicity, so we have one life time, not six days or six months or six years, we have one life time, we have one life time, we have one life time to realize this, you have one life time. Srila Prabhupad used to act like a business man. Business man thinks that I am going to do my business in this life, profits in next life, he doesn’t, he never thinks like that. Business in this life and profit also in this life. Phata-phat he wants, on the spot he wants. So like business man within this life time, we have to achieve the goal of human form of life. Everyday, everyday some progress or some tangible progress has to be made, how far I am or how close I am to my goal. Goal of life this Prem pumartho mahan.
The love of Godhead and for that simhavalokan, simha – avalokan, simha lion, avalokan see. He is the king of the forest, he is vanraj so he is known for infact what a simha does he goes some distance walking, going going in forest he stops and he reviews how far I am? Where I am standing now? He takes stalk of the situation and then he goes forward moves moves forward and then he stops the lion is known for this. Then again he does his avalokan simhavalokan. All great people follow the example of sihma, lion. Reviewing simhavalokan and then he goes and stops and reviews and then he proceeds. He doesn’t do the rat race. Rat is not known for this. Rat is busy, busy, busy, never stops, he has one hole, he is busy making another hole from one hole to another hole. And he was not happy with one hole, he has now two, he is not happy with third hole. Parbhupad talks people he has one house not happy with one house, another house, another here there another and they are running between one house to another house from house to bussines, from business to house, from house to house so like rat just like a rat. Someone has made this observation what does lion do? So he is glorified for his simhavalokan. But the rat is condemned for his rat race. The way rat runs the way the whole world is running, you can’t, could you ever stop the rat. Hye! Master rat shake hand, rat will never stop for shake hand.(devotee says) cat comes and gobbles. Rat runs back and forth, back and forth, rat race, racing like a rat, rat mentality behind the body rat has own mentality. That mentality is moving the rat back and forth, back and forth. They have four legs and Srila Prabhupad said modern people they have vehicle with four wheels they are moving on wheels they are moving on four wheels.
So kardam muni, he has followed intructions of Brahma. Similarly Brahma had expections from his sons. He gave birth to his four kumars, his sons four kumars. Brahma had created this world, the housing society, bijali, sadak, pani, whole lighting, sun the day time is light, night time night lamp moon. Air circulation vayu devata is given charge ok! Indra he will do the raining part. So all this is there but there is no population, no population everything is empty. So Brahma instructed four kumars ok go ahead now and fill up this universe create now, creation give birth to lots of children four kumars were not interested they said not going to do this surrender to this and how did Brahma respond or react? Response is one thing and reaction is another. He kind of reacted he became angry and he could not contain that anger, anger came from his forehead and he heard some crying, who was this? (Devotees -Rudra). Rudra Ok could you create why not and Shiva started the creation rudra and there were eleven Rudrani, the whole population but like “like father like son” anyways he is also vaishnava we don’t want to do offence but the mode of ignorance whole creation whole population was ignorant and full of ignorance and Shiva was playing din din…din damru and they all would get into action .What does a person in mode of ignorance do? (Devotees answering) Sleep ok, bad habits, destruction destruction. Ok this is what I was looking for ignorant person destroys his time by sleeping or destroys his health by eating. He destroys others becomes terrorist (laughs). So that’s what goes on.
Vishnu what does visnu do? His children what they do? Vishnu does maintenance and his devotees’ vaishnavs are also known for maintanances, goodness comes from Vishnu and his devotees. So Brahma creates, which is easy, not really! Easiest is destruction and the tough thing to do is to maintain. The toughest task is with Vishnu and vaishnavas. If you are into destruction then you better be follower of Shiva, not vaishnava. So Shiva’s creation was ferociously destructive, destroying. Brahma had just now created the world and before it existed for some time before the pralaya. But all these follower of Shiva creation of Shiva in the beginning of creation they started destruction and Lord had to give stop stop stop, hold on. Ok take this mala and keep chanting.

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare.”

“Pancha mukhe Mahadeva Ram Ram Hare Hare” So he was given this task, so Shiva is sitting and chanting and he is waiting for his time mahapralaya, destruction, one of the activity he does he took to work it and so four kumars had refused the production of praja and this shiva was very enthusiastic but praja he produced was into destruction. These two children they had not done one did not want to do anything other one did destruction and now Kardam muni, Manu Maharaja, Svaayambhu Manu, who is svayambhu svayambhu is Brahma and from Brahma svaayambhu, svaayambhu is Manu and his daughter Devahuti married to kardam muni, nine daughters and one wonderful son that they had given birth to so things are moving in right direction. Brahma is happy with this service. The instruction that is mentioned here “yan me sanjagrhe vakyam” I have given you instructions to fill up this universe with people manusha or praja. Kardam muni is prajapati. So he has followed that instruction to full satisfaction of Brahma and he is now personally thanking Kardam muni for following that instruction fully well and without duplicity and by this activity you have worshipped me, manad manayan you have respected me by doing this activity. This is act of respect not just praise with the words which could be cheap, well done for the activity translating that activity into action.
So you have not only praised me but you have, through your service you have pleased me and your activities significant point is your activity were “yan me sanjagrhe” without duplicity and in the purport srila prabhupad is pointing out.
Duplicity is cheating, dictionary meaning of duplicity duplication ,duplicitor person, ,meaning is deceptiveness in behaviour, deceptivity, deceptiveness in behaviour or speech, other meaning of this word duplicity could be more clear, sneaky, double deed, double facets “dil sacha aur chehara jhuta” it could be other way round chehara could be jhuta and dil could be sacha so, double facets and deceitful. Example is also of our, not our sampradaya putna, putna is known for deceit. Anartha that putna had by hearing the pastime of killing putna, we become free from duplicity, decietful, this sneaky, double facet mentality just by hearing that pastime one becomes free from that anartha, duplicitors.
In sastra, in Caitanya Caritamrita, vipralipsa, brahm, pramad and karnapatav these are the four defects Prabhuapad has quoted those four defects in the purport Caitanya Cartamrita in very beginning so many authorities all over the world are always talking , talking, talking but they have four defects, brahm that is illusion, pramad that is mistake, that we make mistakes from the heart, vipralipsa cheating, lipsa desire vipra here doesn’t mean vipra also means learned here it means ,cheating propensity, cheating desire to cheat , karmapatav your senses are imperfect, so these four defects Srila Prabhuapad says if you want to be free from these four flaws, four defects then you connect yourself with parampara coming from Brahma and as you hear from Brahma, down in line, when you hear you are free from these four defects and certainly the importance of instructions which are free from duplicity, certainly importamt to follow these instructions like kardam muni has pleased Brahma then we could also please our spiritual master.

Lokanath Swami on true relationship with Krishna

sah — the yogi; api — moreover; etaya — by this; caramaya — ultimate; manasah — of the mind; nivrittya — by cessation of material reaction; tasmin — in his;mahimni — ultimate glory; avasitah — situated; sukha-duhkha-bahye — outside of happiness and distress; hetutvam — the cause; api — indeed; asati — aproduct of ignorance; kartari — in the false ego; duhkhayoh — of pleasure and pain; yat — which; svatman — to his own self; vidhatte — he attributes;upalabdha — realized; paratma — of the Personality of Godhead; kasthah — the highest truth.
TRANSLATION
Thus situated in the highest transcendental stage, the mind ceases from all material reaction and becomes situated in its own glory, transcendental to all material conceptions of happiness and distress. At that time the yogi realizes the truth of his relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He discovers that pleasure and pain as well as their interactions, which he attributed to his own self, are actually due to the false ego, which is a product of ignorance.
PURPORT
Forgetfulness of one’s relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead is a product of ignorance. By yoga practice one can eradicate this ignorance of thinking oneself independent of the Supreme Lord. One’s actual relationship is eternally that of love. The living entity is meant to render transcendental loving service to the Lord. Forgetfulness of that sweet relationship is called ignorance, and in ignorance one is impelled by the three material modes of nature to think himself the enjoyer. When the devotee’s mind is purified and he understands that his mind has to be dovetailed with the desires of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he has attained the perfectional, transcendental stage, which is beyond the perception of material distress and happiness.
As long as one acts on his own account, he is subject to all the material perceptions of so-called happiness and distress. Actually there is no happiness. Just as there is no happiness in any of the activities of a madman, so in material activities the mental concoctions of happiness and distress are false. Actually everything is distress.
When the mind is dovetailed to act according to the desire of the Lord, one has attained the transcendental stage. The desire to lord it over material nature is the cause of ignorance, and when that desire is completely extinguished and the desires are dovetailed with those of the Supreme Lord, one has reached the perfectional stage.Upalabdha-paratma-kasthah. Upalabdha means “realization.” Realization necessarily indicates individuality. In the perfectional, liberated stage, there is actual realization. Nivrittya means that the living entity keeps his individuality; oneness means that he realizes happiness in the happiness of the Supreme Lord. In the Supreme Lord there is nothing but happiness. Anandamayo bhyasat: the Lord is by nature full of transcendental happiness. In the liberated stage, oneness with the Supreme Lord means that one has no realization other than happiness. But the individual still exists, otherwise this word upalabdha, indicating individual realization of transcendental happiness, would not have been used.

Shloka Recited Again:
so ‘py etaya caramaya manaso nivrittya
tasmin mahimny avasitah sukha-duhkha-bahye
hetutvam apy asati kartari duhkhayor yat
svatman vidhatta upalabdha-paratma-kasthah

Translation Recited Again: Thus situated in the highest transcendental stage, the mind ceases from all material reaction and becomes situated in its own glory, transcendental to all material conceptions of happiness and distress. At that time the yogi realizes the truth of his relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He discovers that pleasure and pain as well as their interactions, which he attributed to his own self, are actually due to the false ego, which is a product of ignorance.
Again wonderful statement and very wonderful purport. Statement of Srimad Bhagavatam is from Kapil Dev. This is one of the instructions of Kapil Dev on devotional service and Srila Prabhupada has explained that statement, that verse in the purport. This is so clear, crystal clear. We wish… the whole world was there to read this or listen to this…..They don’t have to listen to my talk, but someone giving talk and the whole world listening to this. In one stroke, in one goal, so much ignorance could have been destroyed and as a result, Bahaye Sukh dukha bahye, then you are outside of the realm of the happiness and distress has its realm, it has its world and then one who realizes the truth spoken here, then he is not accessible, the happiness of this world has no access as well as of course the distress has no access to that person…that person cannot be accessed, so that yogi that soul goes beyond happiness and distress of this material world. There was a time when this was a common knowledge, statements of Bhagavatam was kind of common knowledge, it was spoken everywhere, all the time and what was spoken and heard was further spoken and it was spread all around, as a result people were prosperous & happy, friendly and united & good people.
Kalo Sattva Haram Pumsam
Kalo: In the age of kali, Sattva Haram: That Satvikta, that goodness, that transcendence beyond goodness has been stolen.
Sattva Haram Pumsam: Of all…most of the people, as a result they have been demoted to the status of Sudras, Kalo Sudra Sambhava, the result of Kalo Sattva Haram Pumsam, take away Sattva, what remains is ignorance….You take away goodness…my goodness, then all that is left behind is just ignorance, which is the cause of all the suffering in this world….Days are ahead of us…such days are ahead of us.
Caitanya Mahaprabhu has predicted…
prithvi te ache nagaradi gra|
sarvatra prachar hoibe mor naam

One thing is mor naam…not mine….MOR NAAM ….MOR NAAM…Lords name will spread in every town every village.
HARE KRSNA HARE KRSNA, KRSNA KRSNA HARE HARE!
HARE RAMA HARE RAMA, RAMA RAMA HARE HARE!!

Will spread all over the world. In the beginning there was a word, W…O….R….D, and that word was with the God….In the beginning, there was shabda, word, then we could also say, 40 years ago in the beginning there was the Prabhupada, the founder acharya and that word was with him. In the beginning that word was with Prabhupada and that word has now spread, the sound shabda has spread all over, also kindly when there was a total ignorance all over, as kali-yuga appeared, Kaloh Nasht Drasham aisham…there are so many kaloh…
Kaloh Nastaiv Nastaiv Nastaiv…
Kaloh Sudra Sambhava…
Kaloh Satva Haram Pumsam….
Kaloh Nasht Drasham aisham…

Kaloh Nasht Drasham aisham…Kalyug advented, Tad-dinaat kalirayat aha…from that day, shyam tyakva svapadam gatah….the day Lord left this planet and he took everything with him, dhramayana adibhisaha, with everything..he went returned and all that left behind was total ignorance and darkness, in that situation Lord arranged: Puran Arkav Uditha
The Puran, this Srimad Bhagavatam Puran, Uditha, the horizon of this world, Srimad Bhagavatam appeared brilliant as sun. Prabhupadatranslates this Bhagavatam is brilliant as sun, well it is there in Bhagavatam. Bhagavatam…Bhagavatam has been described in Bhagavatam as puran, Arkav means SUN, brilliant as SUN, so that Bhagavatam. Prabhuapada took that Bhagavatam with him, he took the holy name with him, he took Bhagavatam with him and then it was spread, distributed books… distribute books… distribute books.. distribute books… distribute books…, hence distributed books all over…chanting of Hare Krsna took place everywhere and in 40 years, now Hare Krsna maha-mantra is being chanted as well as the books of Srila Prabhupada…Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-Gita is being studied and is being distributed in 160 countries….HARI BOL…Srila Prabupada Ki Jaya…and this is just the beginning, in 40 years 160 countries and millions of books & millions of readers, number million fold, in 40 years, this gives us confidence…yes…in 40 years this much is possible…the of course in 80 years, then in 160 years and then 260 and 2600 years, we have few thousand years to go, like that and its going to spread & spread and Caitanya Mahaprabhu wants to see this happen, so as Bhagavatam was being studied and was, we said common knowledge, as a result people were happy, united with the Lord, oneness, there is oneness…Prabhupada says oneness, Lord is Anandmayo Abhyasa, Lord full of happiness and oneness between the Lord and the living entity, that both are happy when they are linked, when there is a link, then the happiness from the reservoir of pleasure, RAS-RAJ SRI KRSNA, what kind of Krsna, RAS-RAJ SRI KRSNA, then that RAS, the happiness flows in the direction of the soul, if there is no resistance…electricity also flows only when there is no resistance to the flow. There are different bad conductors, they don’t allow electricity to pass through, because of the resistance. In our body also there is something that could resist, the flow coming from the Lord, flow of happiness, Rasa or flow of shanti coming from the Lord….
shantakaram bhujagashayanam
Lords akaar is shantakaram, his akar is shant, lord is peaceful, shantakaram & bhujagashayanam, is lying down on bhujaga, the transcendental ANANTA-SHESH, snake and that anyone who is linked with that Lord, then he is full of peace, he is full of happiness. Shanti Ananda, we have a birth right, all the living entities have birth right to be happy, to be peaceful, but then the mind could cause the resistance, mind doesn’t allow that flow coming from the Lord, reaching him, the soul and different minds of different person, offer different amount, different degree of resistance as a result they get different degree of happiness or peace coming from the lord.
Like in the fan, anyone want to talk on this verse more directly, but we are, we will get back to this quickly… So like in the fan with regulator, how many positions are there…1, 2, 3, 4, 5. When it is on 1, what happens, when the fan is on 1, put it on 5, on 3, on 4, sometimes there is fighting, so on 1, when it is on 1, what happens, fan moves slow, because more resistance, that regulator creates resistance to the electricity coming from the power house and the middle, there is a regulator an on the other side there is fan, in between fan and the power house is regulator, so when it is on 1, then very little electricity is allowed to reach the fan, when it is on 2, same fan, what could fan do, but you remind of electricity it gets, it moves faster-slower, when it is on 2, more electricity more speed, less resistance, on the 3, means less resistance, on 4 still lesser. The least resistance is when it is on 5, lots of electricity flows to the fan, then it moves, so in our body.
Karnam Bundha Moksha Yo… Karnam Bundha Moksha Yo
What is the other part…
Manaev Manushanam, manaev, certainly, manaev, oh it is mind, Manaev ManushanamKarnam cause Hetotutovam, the word here is Hetotutova, the cause is, the mind is the cause of happiness and distress of this world and this mind becomes the stumbling block, the mind causes the resistance and allows little or no flow of that happiness and peace and other qualities of the Lord, doesn’t allow to reach the soul. So, and that yogi, so the whole process here, in fact whole chapter, we are towards the end of the chapter, text no. 36. This whole chapter has been dedicated by Kapil Dev. To begin with He says:
Yagashya Lakshanam Vakshe
Now I will describe lakshan, the symptoms of yoga, the process of yoga.
Manoeneva Vidhina prasanam yati satvatham
And I will talk of the purification of the mind.
Yen eva vidhina manaha
So, the mind is purified. I will explain the process with which, with the help of that process, the mind will be purified, VIDHINA, and the result will be PRASANNAM YATI, the person will become happy, BRAHMA-BHUTAPRASANA ATMA, PRASANAM YATI SAT PATHAM…
She will be on the right path pantha en gantah sapantha, they will be on the right path, person will be on the right path and he will become prasann. Now I am going to explain you the process, and prior to this, Sa api et ya, means by this, by what we don’t know, those have been studying this Nityam Bhagavat Sevya, everyday, they know, but we are just the visitor, we are just draft in, then we don’t know, what has been talked about…
Etayah Charamyah Manasah Nivirtayah
By this whole process, all that has been described here, verse by verse by verse and this is one of the conclusion. Where as…Where as…where as…where as…, then what happens towards the end, it is resolved that, the temple should be opened on 14th of January, where as …where as, I am sure there are many where as in favor of opening the temple, so there are where as’es, all this where as, where as, this that, and the result of all this is Etatyah, by all this, Charamayah, in an ultimate possible way, manasaha, the mind, nivirtayah, mind is sesations, freed from its actions and reactions, it becomes free from all that, tasmin maheim ni avsitah…and not just the mind, of course what has to be situated when mind is not acting, not going between happiness and distress…
Samaya Sukha-Dukhe kritwa labha labho jaya jayo
The mind is always oscillating between like a pendulum between going from sukhe-dukhe, labha-labho, jaya-jayo, always identifying with. So, get mind out of this thought, so minds function is what, mind function is sankalpa and vikalpa. Sankalpa-Vikalpa, wants to do, does not want, gets involved, withdraws, this goes on. Should I do, should not I do, sankalpa-vikalpa. Tasmin, by this, tasmin maheim ni avsitah, the mind & of course intelligence & the soul, and as a result the whole yogi, bhakti yogi, avsitah is situated in this glorious position, in his constitutional position, as Prabhupada uses that word, or Arjuna says
Sthito Asmi Nashtomoha smritir labdha, tvat prashadad maya
Hey Achutya, by your prasada, what is that Prasad, is Bhagavad-Gita, all this dialogue that we are having here, this is whole Prasad, this is your mercy and a result, what has happened, Sthito Asmi, and I am now properly situated, Gata sandeha, beyond the doubt, I have no doubt. So that Avasitah, the situation, I am now situated, Sthito Asmi, so not only Sthito Asmi, Ok I am that’s not the goal, just be situated, just be, just being is not the goal, that me the goal of the yogi, in person they want to be, just want to be, but Arjun being a bhakti yogi, he has gone, just being beyond, just Sthito Asmi, so what he has done, what he is willing to do, what he wants to do, Karishey Vachnam Tavah, I am ready to act, Karishey Vachnam Tavah, that’s perfection, devotional service, bhakti is, not just a devotion, or a silent meditation, Prabhupada has translated bhakti as devotional service not only devotion, others, impersionalists, they like devotion, Om Shantih… Shantih Shantih Shantih Shantih Shantih, peace. OK that’s the beginning, but once you are peaceful, then what you will act, nivrityah, you are free from all this tussle, you are being pushed, don’t push me around, you always say don’t push me around, but are we always being pushed….
vaco vegam manasah krodha-vegam?
jihva-vegam udaropastha-vegam
etan vegan yo visaheta dhirah
sarvam apimam prithivim sa sisyat

Day & night being pushed and tossed. So nivirityah is becoming free from all this being tossed, action – reaction, chain of actions and reactions, so now because this person, this yogi, bhakti yogi, Prabuapada is describing devotional service, by following this the mind has become charamaya, completely, thoroughly, purified and situated. Tasmin Mahim Ni avsitah, that situation, that glorious situation, constitutional position of a yogi and with that the mind, intelligence is all co-operating, not causing any resistance, fully they are fully with the lord. Lord’s interest is my interest, this is what happened. Arjuna was not realizing this, he was thinking no I don’t want to fight, but Krishna I want the fight, you don’t want the fight but I want the fight. I have appeared, Paritaranaya Sadhunam Vinashaya Ca Dushkritam and lots of dushkritinas and they have to be, I have appeared, this is the purpose of my…my, you may not have any purpose Arjun, but I have purpose, I have appeared with purpose Sabhavami Yuge Yuge…and what is my purpose, I want to protect pandavas & devotees and I want to crush them, kill them, vipe them out of this planet, eradicate all these Dushkritinas. Dharma Samsthapana-thayar, Sambhavami yuge yuge.
So just to help Arjun realize this, Krsna has spoken whole Bhagavad-Gita and then towards the end, there is no difference, Krsna’s purpose, Krsna’s will, Arjun’s will, they are like one, I am with you, I am with you, just fight, Karishey Vacanam Tav, there is no difference, you can see my son, sometimes father say, there is no difference, you speak to me, speak to my son, we are together, we are same policy, we are in agreement with whatever , see my son, same thing, same thing, no difference, one, we are together, the lord and his devotees together, that kind of oneness, so avasitah, situation, situated in a constitutional position and that position is …
Sukha-Dukha bahaye, outside, so beyond happiness & distress of this world, Upalabdha paramat kashthah, so this is the kind of realization of paratma kashtah, there is parmatma, the supreme personality of Godhead and I am connected, I am his, this realization so that is one thing. First two lines and half of the fourth line, they are together, and the rest of 3rd line and half of fourth line, first part, they are another thought and that is:
Hetutva api asti kartari dukha yoryat…svatman vidhata
So when living entity is in the illusion, kartari, he is thinking, I am the doer, Karta-Aham iti manyate, this is kartari, karta-aham iti manyate, and who thinks I am the doer, moodha-atma, what’s the beginning…
Prakarate kriyamanani gune karmani sarvasha, Ahankara vimudh-atma karta-aham iti manyate
Actually everything is, the nature is doing, Prakarate kriyamanani…activities of prakriti, you are part of prakriti or prakriti is handling you, your hand is handled by prakriti, even your eye lids are handled by prakriti, everything is handled by prakriti, you get wounded, then the prakriti is, don’t think I heel the wounds, I don’t know how to heal the wounds, I was just watching and it has been heeled, I have no clue where to start the healing process and what next, ok little blood, little skin, ok lets change the texture and ok its full now, bring some skin on the top, who is doing this, its not me, all that I know is, I eat the food and the next thing is, go to toilet, so what happened in between, I have no control. I don’t know, how thing, whole thing is digested and bring this rasa, bring that rasa, juices and mixing, what kind of food, how to digest milk, how to digest yogurt, how to digest chutney, how this whole things goes on. I have no control, so Prakarate kriyamanani, every single movement in the body is governed by some agency in the world, in the universe, universal affairs, part of the universal affairs, not only the planets are being moved, rotated, there are so many things are going on in the body, the blood circulation, is it with my supervision, the blood is going this way, that way, if that was the case, I could have stopped the blockage of arteries and I have no control, so prakarti kriyamanan gune karmani sarvasah, so how the prakriti acting through the guna, by the gunas, by the 3 modes of material nature.
The prakrati is acting, and this is knowledge, this is knowledge, and then what is ignorance, ignorance is Ahankar vimudha-atma kartaham iti manyate, the word manyate is significant, manyate means considers, the vimudhaatma only thinks that way, that is not the fact, but he thinks I am the doer, which is not the fact, to realize this is not the fact, I am not the doer, I am not the controller, let it go, be happy, there is already someone controlling who is controller karta-aham iti manyate, he thinks he is the doer, kartari asati, sati means also chastity, when the mind is chaste then of course chaste mind accepts the swami, chaste wife accepts the swami, when chastity is not there, looking the other way, looking beyond your husband, beyond him, this way or that way, that is asati, that is illicit, that is prostitution, so mind becomes prostitute and does not accept lord as the swami, my swami, Swami Jagannath Swami, Jagannath Swami NayanPath Gami Bhava Tumha….where ever I look oh my lord you will be there… swami, so asati, when the mind becomes unchaste, then my begins thinking I am the doer, Svatman vidhata, and he attributes… oh this is, I am the doer, this kind of thought, I am svatman, I am doing this and as a result, dukhyo, sukha-dukhyo, he get caught in the middle of sukha-dukha, Hetutva, the cause of sukha-dukha, happiness and distress is caused by this, false ego, and Srila Prabhupada is describing this as ignorance, forgetfulness of one’s relationship with supreme personality of godhead is a product of ignorance, by yoga practice, one can eradicate this ignorance of thinking one self, independent of the supreme lord, so whole process is there, nothing is left to anybody’s imagination, all that we need to know is right here. Kapil Dev has so nicely described, part of that is meditation, astanga-yoga, he is talking about manoachirat virajam, stress is about on how to make mind, virajam, making mind virajam, vi means freedom, free, raja means passion or durt, contamination, virajam or amal, amal purana, like that sarvo-upadhi vinirmuktam tat paratvena nirmalam. Nirmalam, virajam, same thing, virajam how to make mind nirmal, pure, free from contamination and there is whole process, is describing astang yoga and that is non-diiferent from bhakti yoga, there is relationship between two or bhakti includes, bhakti yoga includes all other yoga, karma yoga may be just incomplete, because it does not include Gyan & Bhakti or gyan is still incomplete, because it excludes bhakti but when you come to bhakti yoga, in there are all the yoga’s, karma yoga, gyan yoga, astang yoga. You name the yoga, it is inclusive, it is there.
Complete yoga, bhakti yoga, so astang yoga, as described, the goal of it is Samadhi. Pratyahar can be, without pratyahar is not possible, dhayn, dharna, Samadhi, we cannot do without Samadhi. Samadhi is there, not only when we are put into Samadhi, then we are in Samadhi, know, while, we are still walking and talking, and still in Samadhi, so that kind of Samadhi, so he is talking of Yadaha manaha sva virajam yogen su samahitam. Manaha, yadah manah virajam, when the mind is yogen, by the process of yoga, bhakti yoga, is becoming free from contamination, then su-samahitam, then its properly situated, thats beneficial situation for the living entity, prasana vadanam bhojam, is describing the lord, and asking is dhyan, now time for dhyan, time for dhyan, dhyan of what, not just you light the candle and you do dhyan, no it is very clear, dhyan of, as soon as you talk of dhyan, dhyan of what, meditation, what is the object of meditation, immediately, what is the object of meditation, prasana vadanam bhojam, you remember, the lotus feet of the lord, lotus face of the lord, Nilotapad dal shamam shankha chakra gadadharam lasat pankaj kinjal ka pitakayo vasasam, some of the words you can make out what has been said here, srivatsa kaustubha mukta kandharma, the shoulders of the lord, matah virah kalye paritam vanmalaya and there are always , the bumble bees are around the lord, why, because lord is always wearing the garlands, vanmalaya, and they are always fresh, so the bees are always running, rushing, mmmmmmmmm, always around lord, wherever he goes, the bees follow him because he is wearing the fresh garland, kirit angad nupuram, darshaniyatamam shantam mano nayan vardhanam, mano nayan vardhanam, dharsanam, what kind of darshan, darshaniayatamam, the best darshan, the lord, Shantam, he is peaceful, mano nayan vardhanam, the mind has eyes, if you could see the lord with your mind’s eye or soul’s eye, soul has eye, mano nayan vardhanam, gladden, gladdening, the happiness is experienced as one is visualizing that lord, Apica darshanam sashwat sarvalok namaskritam, that lord, whole world is offering obeisances unto that lord, that lord. kirtan kirtanya tirtha yashasham punya shlokya yashash karam dhyayet..dhyaye, one should meditate upon this lord, samagrangam, samrga, angam, beginning with the feet, and go gradually, go, this has been described in the second canto, first canto, beginning chapters, meditation, and then go over the face, then as pujari’s also does the same, start with the feet, then on navel, then the face and then the whole body, samgra angam yavan chavte manaha and how long you should go on meditating, this is yavan chavte manaha, till your mind is fixed, then of course, from that time onwards, you can continue, you endeavor, endeavor, endeavor, this meditation, till the flickering of the mind, deviation, distraction, stops and you are able to fix your mind and like that he goes on sthitam vas vajamantama aseenam shyanam va guhashyam chitamm
So all this has been described evam haro bhagvati, pratilabhda bhao bhaktya
You are performing all this devotional service unto the lord and then what is happening authkanyta bashkalpya, you are very eager, curious and different symptoms are visible in your personality, that tears sliding down your cheeks, and tremble in the body when the soul is in contact with the supreme soul, soul begins trembling in the association, in presence of lord, it becomes existed and then all the symptoms, when the soul is experiencing different emotions, feelings and ecstasy, that manifests in the body and that has been described as of 8 different kinds. So after going through all this, then Kapil Dev comes to this statement, So apyah etatayah, by doing all this, this is so sweet, wonderful, mansah, mind becomes nivretyah, sensation from happiness, distress contamination is finished, situated in the glorious position, free from happiness distress, realizing his relationship with the supreme personality of Godhead and at the same time, he becomes free from ignorance of thinking himself as the doer, this was because of the unchaste mind, he was thinking that ways and simultaneously he is free from ignorance and immediately, there is a darkness in the room, then you go with light as soon as you, immediately, how long does it take, between ignorance, darkness and light, how much difference is there, as soon as ignorance is removed, immediately light is there, darkness is removed, light is there so gyan deepen bhasvatah, same thing in Bhagavad-Gita, Krsna says, lord is very very kind to his parts & parcels and gyan depen, lord lights the lamp in the heart, so that ignorance caused by Anukampa..
Tesham eva anukampaartham aham agyan jam tamah nashyami atma bhavastoh gyan deepen bhasvatah because I care, I look after my part & parcels, my devotees, so what do I do, and they are covered by the ignorance caused by Tamo-Guna or darkness caused by Tama and then I light a lamp gyan deepen, I light a lamp in their hearts and then everything is clear. So that provision has been made by giving us this Gita-Bhagavad, this whole process of krsna consciousness, is also time of distribution of Srila Prabhupada books. Right, marathon started or starting?, I saw one bus departing yesterday and so, time for distribution of books, in hundreds and thousands of books, Bombay, is one of the leading temple, not one of the leading or the temple, the leader in book distribution, so I don’t have to give any talk, I think you all are already converted & convinced and you are on the job, we have come here to get just the inspiration of how you do it, your spirit of book distribution and today lots of leaders are coming also here for meeting and the book distribution is always a topic of discussion, I was just hearing from Gopal Krishna Goswami Maharaj, he said GBC has resolved or Executive Committee of GBC, they are proposing, that every GBC meeting should begin with book distribution as a topic, like a standing topic. Every GBC meeting the book distribution so I am sure, today we also talked about book distribution, but while others are talking, you are acting like, talk less, work more, so time to work, time to distribute books, so distribute books, distribute books.. distribute books is a message. This is the time, the day Krsna spoke Bhagavad-Gita, just around the corner.
So Thank you for your attention.

Lokanath Maharaj on unity in diversity

We are reading from the Bhagavatam, canto 3, chapter 9 and text no 37. Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada ki jay!
“When you were contemplating whether there was a source to stem of the lotus of your birth and you even entered into that stem. You could not trace out anything. But at that time I manifested my form from within.” This is Sri Bhagavan Uvaca. Lord speaking unto Brahma.
Purport: Personality of Godhead can be experienced only by his causeless mercy, not by mental speculation or with help of material senses. Krishna Balarama ki jay! Material senses cannot approach the transcendental understanding of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He can be appreciated only by submissive devotional service. When he reveals Himself before the devotee, only by love of Godhead can one know God and not otherwise.
The personality of Godhead cannot be seen with material eyes but he can be seen from within; by spiritual eyes opened by ointment of love of Godhead. As long as one’s spiritual eyes are closed due to dirty covering of matter, one can not see the Lord. But when the dirt is removed by the process of devotional service one can see the Lord without a doubt. Brahma’s personal endeavor to see the root of the lotus pipe failed. But when the Lord was satisfied by his penance and devotion, he revealed Himself from within with no external endeavor.

“When you are contemplating whether there was a source to the stem of your lotus of your birth and when you even entered into that stem. You could not trace out anything. But at that time I manifested my form from within.”
Very wonderful. Wonderful statement by the Lord. Krishna is wonderful and of course his statement has to be wonderful. I don’t have to say it separately and he is stating this to Brahma, he has just now taken his birth. And he doesn’t even know the source of his birth or who has given him birth. Ok! There is some lotus there and the stem there. Does this also have same source? Does this, the lotus, which is this world, this is universe. Whether this universe has same source? Whether I myself also have some source? Vicinvatah, as you were searching, as you were looking. Trying to understand by yourself. You were breaking your brain this way and that way, which is called speculation. You were speculating. N?lena salile m?lam. You even entered that naal, the stem. Nalena salile mulam and you kept going down, deeper into that stem but still mulam. You could not find out the source of yourself. Puskarsya mulam, Puska, the lotus. Puskarsya mulam vicinvatah. You were searching for the source of that stem of the lotus.
Tubhyam mad vicikitsayam. You were trying to know this way. You were searching and you were trying to know. But as all your attempts fail, this is what happens? All attempts. As attempts of Brahma failed, who was the first person to take birth. Anyone who follows in his footsteps before Lord had revealed knowledge unto him. There is a Brahma before he became realized. Brahma, before the knowledge was revealed unto him by causeless mercy of the Lord or the primeval, not only the source of the existence but is also the source of all knowledge that exists. Tene brahmhriday adikawaye. Brahma is described as adikawi, the original poet. But he was just totally blank until the time Lord reveals all knowledge unto him. So Brahma before and Brahma after. The people are following to this day. This happened long, long time ago. They don’t even have a clue. How long, long time ago, the world was created. Hari! Hari! The universe was created. And they have their own big bang theories.
So Brahma, Brahma’s all attempts to know his own source. Who he was kim yami. And what is this world? What is the source of this world? All his attempts, all his endeavors totally were failure.
And then Atma me darsitorbahi, abahi. Abahi. There is a very wonderful word. Abahi, from within. Word sounds like outside bahi is outside. But abahi, when you attach aa, from somewhere, beginning from somewhere to bahi, outside. That is within. From within to outside. Abahi. Abrahma bhuvananu lopa. Aa, when there is aa means from this place to that place. Aa, abahi, aa, abrahma, avrindavan, Durbon. We go to Vrindavan to Durbon. Now, time has come to go so. AVrindavan. Ya! Vrindavan, from Vrindavan. Whatever. So abahi. It’s from within. Darshito. I showed you. I revealed unto you. Aatma me, unto you. Tubhyam, to you I revealed things or knowledge from within. And, the point is being made in the purport naturally. This is the only way, this is the only way to know the Lord and of course something that has also happened in between.
Brahma was looking, looking, trying to understand and then he had heard, before Lord revealed himself unto Brahma. Prior to that there was instruction to this Brahma. He was very jigyasu. Brahmajigyasa. He was very jigyasu. He was very curious. Curious as he was running in a total darkness, not knowing the source, nothing. And then he had heard the words. He had heard two letters. And then he put the two letters together and that becomes the word. Two lettered word. One was ‘ta’ other one was ‘pa’. ‘tapa, tapa’. And then he got into business. Oh! This is what I have to do. I have to do tapasya. So as he heard this word, with that he understands. Oh! This is what I should be doing. So he did tapasya and that was devotional service that he had performed. He had followed the instructions of the Krishnam vande jagadguru. The original spiritual master.
Krsna personally became the spiritual master of Brahma. He had become the spiritual master of Arjuna, like that he is the original spiritual master. So, Brahma received. He performed the tapasya i.e. the devotional service. And the dirty things, when the dirt is removed by the process of devotional service. Tapa, also is connected with taapa, the flame. That is also correct. Taaptrayi. So tapa, the austerities create fire taapa. The tapasya is fiery, creates fire. Oh! He is fired up. That he performed tapasya. The three kinds. Krsna describes in Bhagavata Gita. At the physical level, at the vocal level, and at the mental level and it is purifying. The fire of tapa, the purifying. You put gold into fire, all the impurities are removed and then gold begins to shine. Molten gold. Taptakancan gaurangi. Taptakancan. In that prayer, tapta, not only kancan gaurangi Radhe, taptakancan. Why taptakancan? Tapta is not only pure but is more brilliant than the other kind of gold. So as tapa is performed.
Tapo divyam putrak? yena sattvam
?uddhyed yasm?d brahma-saukhyam tv anantam.

Very famous statement! And Prabhupada has here this verse from Bhagavatam, this instruction of Vrishabhdev to his sons. So Prabhupada, we were his sons and daughters. Americans, “You, American boys and girls.” He said that. Sometimes he also said Europians. He never said that Indian boys and girls. (Laughs). Sometimes it feels envious. Alright you boys, American boys. Whenever you read those letters, what about me? (Laughs) So we are his children. So what was that point? Tapo divyam. Ya! Pure. So it’s gold.Tapo divyam putraka yena. Ya! So this instruction of Vrishabhdev and he is addressing this to his sons and Prabhupada to his sons and daughters, repeated this verse.
So this verse was repeated more frequently. Most, most quoted verse. Someone has done the research on Prabhupada. So, Tapo divyam. He performed tapa and again divya. Divya tapa. There is no one in the world who doesn’t performed tapasya. Even rikshawwala, chay! chay! At the train station all day is lots of endeavor, lots of inconvenience. Tapasya. Money! Money! Money! Money! Lots of tapasya. Every endeavor is tapasya. Austerities are there, inconvenience is there. But what kind of tapasya? Tapodivyam immediately. You want to perform tapa? Make sure it is divyam. It is transcendental tapascarya. Being in Vrindavan, during month of Kartik. That has come to kind of an end last night. Devotees going on Vrajamandal Parikrama and also performing lots of tapascarya. And that for us that may be some kind of end. But today is also the beginning of the Gopi’s performance. Gopi’s tapa started from today. After Kartik, Margashirha. Kartik, Margashirha, Pausha, Magha, Phalgun. So in this month, Hemante. Next ritu, Sharad ritu has come to an end yesterday. Sharad has two months, Aswin and Kartik. And now the next ritu, the season called Hemant, which has Margashirsha and Pausha. And in the first month of this Margashirsha, month after Kartik, Gopis, they kept going every morning to Chirghat. That time that ghat was not known as Chirghat. But at the end of that month that became known as Chirghat. Because after one month’s endeavors and austerities, going in cold winter early morning hour, singing glories of the Lord, they would go there, and they would do japa. Oh! Katyayani devi nandasutam patim me kurute namah. Son of Nanda Maharaja, may He be our husband. Patim me kurute namah, patim me kurute namah, patim me kurute namah. They were chanting these japa. And so lots of austerities.
Lord was pleased and that pleasure was expressed by the Lord by stealing the garments. Patim me kurute. Ok! Here I am. So, so another festival is beginning which lasts for one month. Gopi’s festival. So tapasya is yasm?d ?uddhyed. So when tapasya is transcendental then that brings about the purification. The dirt is removed by process of devotional service. We become clean. Not only clean shaven. Some devotees have shaved today. Shaved up. Month is over and the forest was growing and they shaved up. So, clean from outside. Clean from inside. Inside cleaning is more important. Heart cleaning, soul’s cleansing. So the tapasya. So the first instruction that Brahma received, do tapa! Tapasya, tapo divyam. Vrshabhadev repeated. Srila Prabhupada is repeating. One of the tapasya. It’s just a thought going. So many thoughts right, like a window, so many thoughts are floating but we have to keep a check. One thought has just crossed my mind.
One tapasya, austerity is to stay together. To stay together as a family or bigger family, small family, big family. Staying together is a big tapasya, big thing in this age of Kali. But if we could stay together and cooperate together, cooperate with each other to spread Krishna Consciousness. This is one of the major tapasyas of this age of Kali. Get lost is a mantra in the west and America. Get lost as soon as you have different idea, the other person has a different idea. Each one is an individual so having different ideas is natural, Prabhupada says. Having little different ideas. And then something else has to be applied. Unity in diversity. “You GBC men should come every year to Mayapur and one topic you should discuss every year!” Prabhupada said. Unity in diversity should be like an ongoing agenda. Amongst other agendas, unity in diversity. Some natures diverse. Diverse endeavors. The devotional service is of diverse varieties. Unity! See the Krishna connection. See Prabhupada connection and stay united. So this is a big challenge and takes lots of tapasya to stay together, to share, share Krishna.
People don’t like to even share God. If your God is Krishna. Oh! My God is Allah. OK! You get lost! Immediately the world is divided. People don’t even like to share God in this age of Kali. What to speak of sharing other things! So this is tapasya. Yes! This is a challenge also. So undergoing all kinds of tapasya, divya tapasya, transcendental tapasya. And of course tapasya is not just sitting down. As soon as we talk of tapasya. This is run around and tapasya. We are reminded of Hiranyakasyapu performing tapasya in one place. Others performing tapasya in one place. The Gopi’s are always, they don’t sit down. So they are performing tapasya for Krsna’s pleasure, undergoing so many inconveniences. So this tapasya is purifying. The dirty matter is removed and one comes out clean. Mr. Clean. Some politicians sometimes are Mr. Clean. According to their standards some kinds of Mr. clean.
The devotees are all Mr, Mrs Clean, when they went to Vrindavan and performed tapasya for one month or some days. Now we have come out clean. We are coming out of Vrindavan clean. Vrindavan is clean. Coming in contact with Vrindavan which is clean, pavitram, we become pavitra also. Vrndavan is nondifferent from Krishna. So staying here is some tapasya, but is purifying and the result is anant. Brahma-saukhyam tv anantam. Unlimited joy comes as a result. If we are connected with Krishna, not only we get joy, unlimited joy. Brahma-saukhyam tv anantam. The source of that joy, ‘Anandkunde’. Itidrk sva-lilabhir anand-kunde. Try to understand this word. You know both the words. You have to put them together. Anand and kund. ‘Kund’ you know. Radhakund, this kund, Narad kund. So many kundas are there in Vrindavan.
So for Vrajavasi, itidrk sva-lilabhir, by these kind of lilas of the Lord, stealing butter. Lila that Lord performed. Damodar Lila. Iti is thus. Itidrk, like this. Lilabhir, by these lilas. Anandkunde, he drowned the residents of Vrindavan in what? Anandkund. The kund that is filled with anand. We say ocean of bliss. Kund full of bliss. Sarovar full of anand. So Lord was drowning. Everyone was swimming in the ocean of anand. And that ocean of anand, that Vrindavana, Vrindavan or Vrndavananand. Or Harinaam or harinaamanand and Krishnakatha, Krsnakathanand. That Prasad, prasadanand, is welcoming us, inviting us, please come, please come, I am here. Eternally it is available. So the process is. Yes! Srila Prabhupada is talking of some siddhant here.
One word follows is upsiddhant. Upsiddhant dhwantharine. And Bhaktisiddhant was known for someone who opposed upsiddhant. Upsiddhant? Against siddhant. Against the process, scientific process of God’s realization. Prabhupada is talking the siddhant, the process of devotional service. Always stressing devotional service. But Prabhupada didn’t stress devotion only, he stressed devotional service. He didn’t describe or translate bhakti as devotion, but he translated bhakti as devotional service.
The devotion could be just sitting around, just sitting around. That’s what yogi’s do. Yogis also sit around. But time to get up. As soon as you get up and then you run around for Krishna. Kayena manasa buddhya kevalair indriyair api yogina karma kurvanti. Yogina karma kurvanti, Krishna has clarified. Yogis perform activities with their body, with their senses, with their intelligence, with their mind. Kayena manasa buddhya, so they are busy. So they don’t sit around. When there is time for chanting, they sit and chant. That’s the best way to do, sit and chant. There is time for sitting also. Best you get out of chanting is when you sit down and chant. But of course if you are sleepy, little bit sleepy, get around. Get some passion going. Arouse some passion. Transcendental passion. So devotional service is what Prabhupada always stressed. I also attend and sit some kind of devotion. When I joined I was into devotion. I would like to sit down and do my devotion. Not always enthusiastic to take my briefcase and go down town, Mumbai, Bombay making life members. I would spend little extra time in temple with my devotion, doing devotion. So my President didn’t like this and soon I, he gave me the name, before Prabhupada gave me the name, he gave me the name, Samadhidasa! Samadhidasa! Samadhidasa! (Laughs). But then he got me out of Samadhi. He disturbed my Samadhi. Got me into transcendental samadhi. So devotional service, not only devotion. And by that devotional service, then Krsna reveals more unto that candidate who is performing devotional service and the glaring example is the starting with the very first person at the beginning of creation.
What applied? What was applicable to Brahma is also applicable to each one of us. From the day one to day two, there was no different application. OK! This is day three now! No! Same application and day four, the next kalpa, or next yuga. This is eternal process. Way, way! `Atma me darsito bahih. Lord reveals himself unto that devotee, now Brahma. The same process, caksudan dila jei, janme janme prabhu sei, divyagyan hrdye prakasit. Divyagyan hrdye prakasit, divyagyan hradye prakasit. Caksudan, so on behalf of that original spiritual master, Sri Krishna, his representatives, they give caksudan. Dan means donation. Eye donation camp, ISKCON is like an eye donation camp. The doctors, eye doctors, this donation camp. So caksudan dila jei. Caksu, caksu! Ya! Eyes. Daan, donation. Janme janme prabhu sei. Because he gave me eyes, I would like to serve him. Janme janme prabhu sei. I would like to serve him life after life after life. And if I did so then what is the result? Divyagyan hrdye prakasit. So we get the process of this devotional service and that is the cleansing.
Visay chadiya kabe shuddha habe man
Kabe hama heribo sri Vrndavan

Talking about Vrindavan, here in Vrindavan. Here Narottamdas Thakur says, “Oh! When would that day come that I will be able to stay in Vrindavan. Oh! I will be able to see Vrindavan.” Yet another transcendental Vrindavan. He thought he was not seeing and he wanted vision to see Vrindavan. Kabe hama heribo sri Vrndavan. But then he had, he knew I could see Vrndavan when I, I am clean. Visay chadiya kabe shuddha habe man. When my mind is clean, shuddha habe man, then I will be able to see Vrindavan. It is right here. Again cleansing, tapasya, devotional service. We are purified and then we are able to see Vrindavan. The famous statement of same Brahma.
Premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena
Santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti
Yam syamsundaram acintya-guna-svarupam
Govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

Brahma is not only the creator, chief architect, engineer of this world but is also the first acarya. So he is teaching us, premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena. By devotional service, by devotion, when eyes tears slide down. Then seeing, santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti. Devotees always see the Lord within their hearts. Yam syamsundaram acintya, take the note, acintya-guna-svarupam. Otherwise, if you are not performing devotional service, not understanding and following devotional service, in that pure line of spiritual masters and disciples, then, then Krsna will be acintya, will be inconceivable, as it was inconceivable for Brahma. Outside the authority or authoritative arrangement of the Lord. He was trying to understand Lord from outside or he wanted to understand this world outside that process.
First time I read this verse, immediately, when I was reading in between the lines that Brahma was trying to understand the stem, which is practically the whole universe inside that stem. And, the scientists are also trying. Cosmologist, astronomers going with the Sputniks. This is the same endeavor as Brahma’s first endeavor. Brahma was going the way he goes looking, finding and the scientists are also doing the exact same thing. So as Brahma was total failure on the part of Brahma, understanding the universe length and breadth and source of the universe. All such attempts would be also total failure. Then I was thinking. My thoughts should be OK. I hope I am not speculating here. We are here. If we want to say something wrong, say in the presence of some learned devotees then they will correct it. I think, I don’t think, I am not saying that much wrong. Ok! Let’s see! Yes the creation is also Lila. You should describe like that.
The Avatara’s of various kinds and there is Purusavatara. And Maha-Visnu, Garbhodaksayi Visnu, Ksirodaksayi Visnu and they are creating this world. From Maha-Visnu comes the whole universe and then further the detailed creation is done by Garbhodaksayi Visnu and some more details are added by Ksirodaksayi Visnu. Like some time, lots of times, there is RCC structure of building first. And some interior decoration and the plumbing and the electrification and this and then that. So these three Lords, three Visnus. This is there Lila and they are creating. First universe is created and some more things are added and some more things are added. So this is the Lila of Visnu, of the Lord. So to understand this Lila and part of that knowledge will be understanding this world, understand the universe, understand the source of the universe.
How it was created by the Lord? And whether there are other universes also. All this could be revealed unto you as soon as you surrender unto that creator. As soon as you surrender unto Visnu, unto Krishna, then only it is possible to understand the universe, or how it was created, how many universes are there and lots of more things to be known are made known. This knowledge has been, the world was created and the knowledge was created at the same time. And the knowledge always existed. And when world was created knowledge was just made available. So all that we need to know, we could know through process of devotional service not through so called scientific endeavors. There endeavors according to, this is how the class expands, because we go this way or that way. There are the four defects of the mundane authorities. They are what? Bhrama, pramada, vipralipsa and karnapathav. These are the four defects of mundane authorities including the scientists.
The bhrama, making mistakes. Pramada, that is, what is that? Madness, illusion. Vipralipsa, that is making mistakes and then karnapathava that is being, senses being imperfect. And I have the second line is there aarsavigye vakye nahi hosh yei saba, according to Krsnadas Kaviraaja. This is from Caitanya Caritamrta. These four defects you do not find in the vakya, the statements of aryas. Those who are knowledgable. The devotees, vaisnava acaryas coming in the disciplic succession, in them, in there statements, these four flows are not found. But they are found in all other authorities, so called authorities. So all that we need to know, human beings need to know that knowledge is made available.
Yanneh asti na kutrcit. I came across another statement. This is Vyasadev speaking, Vyasa ukti, Vyasokti, Vyasa uvaca. He says if there is anything, or he is trying to claim, it’s an indirect statement. Everything that we need to know, vedai? ca sarvair aham eva vedyo ved?nta-k?d veda-vid. ‘Everything I am to be known by studies of the veda, I am compiler of the Vedas, that is Krsna, that is Vyasadev compiler. So he has included all the knowledge, complete knowledge is there. And then he says ‘na eha asti’. Something that is not here. Na, na, na kutsacit, then it is nowhere else. Something that is not in here. Something that is not in Vedas, Puranas, all the vedic texts compiled by Srila Vyasadev, Bhagavata Gita, Mahabarata, Srimad Bhagavatam, if it is not there, it is not to be found anywhere else. Don’t even look the other way or look beyond these sources. Everything you need to know is right in here. Na yat eha astit means nastit. Something that is not in here not to be found anywhere else. Not in scientific journals, not in Bible, not in Korana, not here, not there. Everything you need to know is right here.
Just chant Hare Krsna, sit down Ok! Sit down, sit down, chant Hare Krsna and study the scriptures or hear from the scriptures and you will be knowledgeable. You will be the best scientist in the world. One who knows this science is a scentist. Prabhupada was that scientist, Bhaktisiddhanta was that scientist and Baladeva Vidyabhusan was that scientist. Sastra! Ok! Sastra is called science and sastragya, one who knows sastras is a scientist. Sastragya, the knower of the sastras, the knower of the science is a scientist. All our acaryas are the genuine scientists.
And as soon as you begin chanting, you will know all about cosmology, all about astronomy. You, not only you know about this one universe, you will know about all other universes which are all around this universe. There is no other way. Even if you have a telescope, then you will see lot of things but everything from this universe. There is no way you could see something that the other universe exists. There is no way you could see. So those, so this is because it is karnapathava. The senses, the sense perception is defective. So the knowledge acquired by, the impuric knowledge acquired by with the help of same senses or they try to make the senses powerful. Microscope, increases the power of the eyes, and increase the power of ears to hear. But there is a limit. Ok! 10 times, 100 times, 1000 times, but there is a limit. There is much more, still more! Only microscope you could use is sastracaksusa. See through the eyes of the sastras. See through the eyes of the Srila Prabhupada’s books, And then you, you will see this is the telescope. This is the telescope.
You see through and you don’t have to endeavor much. Just chant Hare Krsna, dance little, take prasada and better to hear Bhagavatam before prasada otherwise. Chant, dance, philosophy and you will become most knowledgeable human being. The members of the International Society for Krsna Consciousness are most knowledgeable members on this planet. (Devotees – Srila Prabhupada ki jay).
Even our new bhaktas know more than big-big scientists. The truth exists. You just have to accept. Sarvametad rtam manye, yan mam vadasi kesava. That is the process. Arjuna said to Krsna,’Oh! Krsna’, He had been hearing now ninth and this is tenth chapter. The tenth chaper’s statement. The ten chapters he has heard and now Arjuna says, “Oh, Kesava, whatever you are saying is nothing but the truth and I accept it. Sarvametad rtam manye. I accept this as a truth. Not like the Yogis make the experiment with the truth.” There is a big saint amongst the politicians in India and he wrote a book. The title of the book was ’My experiments with the truth’. And Prabhupada commented,” You don’t make experiments with the truth”. (Some devotees take the name). Hey! Not supposed to be! It’s being recorded. It’s ok. It’s ok. All right! So you, Prabhupada said you don’t make experiment with the truth. You accept the truth and you will become knowledgeable. So, so what has been given by Krsna to us, given to Brahma first and then that line coming down through the disciplic succession.
Five thousands years ago there was a need to put this in writing. Because our memories are going to be, not good memories. So then Vyasadev compiled these sastras. They were in Sanskrit or Bengali and we don’t know these languages. So Prabhupada was instructed in English language, in English language. So Prabhupada did that in English language. Then to us, his Guru Maharaja said in English language. Then our Guru Maharaja, Prabhupada said in as many languages as possible, including Chinese and Russian and Dutch and French and Swahili and Czechoslovakian and Hebrew and almost in 100 languages.
Now this truth is being translated and spoken and being remembered. Now this truth in Bhagavata Gita, Bhagavatam, Caitanya Caritamrtam, Isopanisad, Bhaktirasamrtasindhu, this knowledge was not there. Just some, how are you? And what is the rate of this? And some health businesses and how far is that planet? And what kind of climate? These kinds of nonsense and some relative knowledge here, there, weather climate. These books are all about politics, lots of politics. And some kind of modern art and a lot of gossip. But these truths being translated for first time in known history, history that we know in all possible languages. Now you could hear Krsna in your own language. Krsna is speaking to you in your own language. Otherwise knowledge was kind of sealed or stored in Sanskrta.
So ahead of us is a book marathon of Srila Prabhupada. So some of you will be leaving or even if you are here. Let’s distribute this knowledge. Let’s distribute the truth. Let’s share the truth. Satyameva jayate. And of course only truth prevails. All others, after 100 years, after 150 years, then world comes to know oh! That scientist what he said was just a bogus thing or half truth. The Darwin, few year scientists, some people are getting fired up. In few years times, the 150th anniversary of Darwin’s, whatever he proposed, whatever papers he wrote, Darwin’s theory of evolution was first presented 150 years ago and in few years,150th year, the world is getting, You would be amazed. I am always amazed. Even in India, land of Bhagavatam, some people, they smart in these kind of Saktyavesa Avatara or Darwin, really fooled. People around the world including Indians are studying this, Darwin’s theory of evolution. That in the beginning there was amoeba. What about Brahma? First person created in the world was Brahma. Full fledged! He had four heads and just one celled animal! Full fledged! Four headed, brainy Brahma! The first creation, first person. Of course! Vaisnavas never believed, knowledgeable people, students of Bhagavatam. But others are imitating the west. According to that and the Britishers they were in charge of this country and they have got that kind of education going. We also agreed. We don’t understand. Whenever you have agreed, like a Nandibail. But then scientists are coming to realized. No!No! They are talking about now intelligent design.
Someone behind this creation, and the, and this intelligent design not just happened by just by chance and big bang. So they are coming with another theory called Intelligent Design Theory and that will last for sometime which makes little sense to us because intelligence implies the personality, if they could keep going, intelligent, intelligent design. Prabhupada says, “Oh! Such a beautiful flower! Who has made this? What an intelligent person has made these plastic flowers. When you go to the garden, you see so many beautiful flowers. Then you should be asking the same question. What a beautiful flower! Which intelligent designer has made this? Krsna has made this. Krsna’s nature, Krsna has made this, so from the intelligent theory, if they could go forward and come to conclusion that, that intelligence. Krsna is the supreme scientist is most intelligent, original intelligent person. So that will be progress. Also some heading in that direction is going on. But then in the mean time, 150 years were lost. People were thought that Darwin threw the light on the darkness, so that makes senses. Will you throw some light, prabhu? Could you throw some light on this? Meaning I am not able to see or understand this particular point or whatever. Please throw some light on this, means please explain or reveal truth. Throw some light! So instead of throwing some light this Darwin threw some darkness on the truth or covered the truth. But in the process billions of people were misguided. All the universities are teaching this nonsense, speculation.
Speculation is a topic. Speculation. That’s not the way. The only way is Ya! Perform tapasya ,devotional service. Get connected with the knowledgeable people on this planet and they are devotees of Krsna and acaryas and the book of. Devotees always see the Lord within their hearts. em knowlestrongItidrk sva-lilabhir anand-kunde.Prabhupadadge is Bhagvatam. The whole world isstrongstrong engulfed in the darkness of this age of kali. Lord created Bhagvatam and it is described as brilliant as sun.
Bhagvatam is brilliant, more brilliant. This is more brilliant than sun. In the brilliance of sun, the sun would be just like a candle. So that, so we have reached , we have as now, we have reached Bhagavatam, we have reached Bhagavan, we have reached is above. We are very close just around the corner from Lord, matter just sticking to this and pushing on and spreading this truth. Each one of us, we owe this obligation, “you do as I did,” Prabhupad said. So this makes these big endeavors of spreading this truth and making people knowledgeable and happy. This is the only way. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way. Haribol! Only way is way to the prasadam hall. Only way! Ok! It’s a little late, so we will stop here, you take prasad. So see you there or see you here, if you are leaving down this day. Please come back. Keep coming, keep coming, keep coming and finally when you give up your body, finally come and stay here eternally. Is that ok? This is the way. Krsna Balaram ki Jay! Srila Prabhupad ki Jay!

Lokanath Maharaja on unnecessary anger of the jivas

Bhagavatam canto 4, verse 11.7: Class at Vrindavan.
“Unnecessary anger of the jivas verses unlimited anger of the Lord.”
manur uvaca: alam vatsatiroshena, tamo dvarena papmana, yena punya janan etan, avadhis tvam anagasah
Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada. “Lord Manu said, my dear son, please stop. It is not good to become unnecessarily angry. It is the path to hellish life. Now you are going beyond the limit by killing Yakshas, who are actually not offenders.
Maharaja reads the purport, “In this verse, the word atiroshena means ‘with unnecessary anger.’ When Dhruva Maharaja went beyond the limits of necessary anger, his grandfather, Svayambhuva Manu, immediately came to protect him from further sinful action. From this we can understand that killing is not bad, but when killing is done unnecessarily or when an offenseless person is killed, such killing opens the path to hell. (Maharaja comments, “Other killing could lead to heaven. It is mentioned in second chapter of Bhagavad Gita. But this one could lead to hell when the limits are crossed.) Dhruva Maharaja was saved from such sinful action because he was a great devotee.
A kshatriya is allowed to kill only for maintenance of the law and order of the state; he is not allowed to kill or commit violence without reason. Violence is certainly a path leading to a hellish condition of life, but it is also required for maintenance of the law and order of the state. Here Lord Manu prohibited Dhruva Maharaja from killing the Yakshas because only one of them was punishable for killing his brother, Uttama; not all of the Yaksha citizens were punishable. We find in modern warfare, however, that attacks are made upon innocent citizens who are without fault. According to the law of Manu, such warfare is a most sinful activity. Furthermore, at the present moment, civilized nations are unnecessarily maintaining many slaughterhouses for killing innocent animals. When a nation is attacked by its enemies, the wholesale slaughter of the citizens should be taken as a reaction to their own sinful activities. That is nature’s law.”
Maharaja continues, “My dear son, please stop.” When I read that, I am reminded of Srila Prabhupada. Once, he also asked me the same thing, “stop it,” he said. This was in the year 1972. About 38 years ago, during the month of Kartik, in Radha Damodar temple, our team of 10-15 devotees traveled from Bombay to Vrindavan to see Srila Prabhupada. As I was sitting around Srila Prabhupada, right in front of him. We were giving report of Bombay and different activities and Srila Prabhuapda was appreciating or enquiring from time to time.
As he was talking to us, he was moving his head from side to side. So whenever he looked at me, he would stop for a fraction of seconds. Then he would move again and come back again to take a little closer look at me. I knew that Prabhupada was noting something and I was wondering what was getting Prabhupada’s attention. I was trying to figure out, oh have I forgotten my tilak or what? But I could not figure it out till Prabhupada said, “Stop it”. Then I realized what Srila Prabhupada was referring to.
Those days whenever I heard someone attentively, then I would automatically move my thighs. I did not even know what I was doing, going fast in my movement. I was in Vrindavan for the first time and I was listening to Srila Prabhupada in such proximity for the first time ever. I had seen him in Bombay on the stage and heard him before, but never ever so closely. So there I was, moving my thighs up and down and Prabhupada said, “Stop it!” That was the first thing he ever told me. And I stopped it. Whenever I do a little demonstration, I do it again. So spiritual master gives different instructions, do this and don’t do this. I thought this one phrase ‘stop it’ included the whole package – don’t do this, don’t do that and that, etc. Although he was giving indication to stop one item, I thought he was asking me to stop all the nonsense.
The Lord came to see Dhruva:
So Dhruva Maharaja chanted the mantra, “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya at a placed called Madhuban, not far from here. The main thing was his tapasya and remembrance of the Lord, taking bath in Yamuna regularly, as he was instructed by his spiritual master, Narada. He was thoroughly purified by the end of six months. He had darshan of the Lord or Lord was taking his darshan. Srila Prabhupada used to say this. If you want to see the Lord, it is not so easy. But if Lord wants to see you then it is very easy.
So Lord was pleased with Dhruva Maharaja and came to see him. But Dhruva Maharaja had not taken note that his Lord was standing right in front of him. He was just absorbed in his meditation of seeing the Lord within his heart. So, to get Dhruva’s attention, Lord turned off the screen inside. Whatever Dhruva was seeing inside, on the smriti patal, the screen of the heart or consciousness; Lord turned off that screen, and Dhruva Maharaja immediately opened his eyes and Lord Vishnu was right there.
Unnecessary and excessive anger lead to sin and hell:
So now Dhurva Maharaja was trying to take revenge because his brother, Uttama was killed; although Uttama was some kind of competitor for Dhruva Maharaja for the throne or the lap of his father. Due to Dhruva Maharaja’s affection for his brother Uttama, he killed the yaksha who killed his brother but now he was unnecessarily killing some more yakshas and that is the topic of this verse. “This is not fair, enough is enough, O boy”, Manu said. He is the law maker. We call it Manu Samhita. For Dhruva Maharaja, he was a family member, grandfather to Dhruva.
Manu was old but not useless. Sometimes there is culture in the West to kill someone if one is useless. Old people may be weak in body but their wisdom comes handy. This is the Vedic culture. In Vedic culture, even old people could be useful, helpful with their wisdom. Utility is the principle. Young people are usually foolish. It is said young and foolish; but old and wise. Their experience could be shared or used. Same thing is happening here. Manu is the ruler of the universe. Even though we cannot see Manu (& see only politicians ruling the countries), the supreme manager or administrator is Manu Maharaja. He comes up with the laws for dos and don’ts. He is advising his grandson to stop unnecessarily killing others who are not responsible and hence should not be killed.
Manu says, “Others are not offenders. One person has killed your brother and you have already killed him. Alam .. stop it. Don’t become excessively angry.” If anger is excessive, then you will commit sins. That will open the gate to hell. ‘tamo dvarena papmana’. So Manu’s laws are based on Krishna’s. Manu is not an independent lawmaker separate from Krishna. Krishna has also said this in Bhagavad Gita that there are three gates kama, krodha and lobha. These are the gates leading to hell. So this advise is based on Krishna’s.
Punya janan etan. Others are pious, innocent. Why are you killing them? Maharaja reads purport of Srila Prabhupada, “We find in modern warfare, however, that attacks are made upon innocent citizens who are without fault.
Unnecessary killing of animals by humans: Cause of war
We all have experience of this. Sirla Prabhupada is taking this opportunity to take up the cause of animal slaughter. Especially cows, they cannot speak. Srila Prabhupada is speaking on behalf of the cows; as if the cows are saying, “Just because we cannot speak, just because we don’t have the passport, that doesn’t mean we are not citizens.” Srila Prabhupada is making this point, just because you have passport you claim to be citizens and the cows don’t have passport. They are also citizens, innocents. Not only innocent, but so useful. So gentle. Even looking at the cow, we feel peaceful. By looking at a buffalo, we may not. Looking at a dog, do you feel peaceful? No. This is very special. Just by looking at the cow, just by being with the cows, you feel peaceful. If you want peace of mind, stay with the cow, be with the cows or serve the cows. So there could be a whole cow mahatmya. Name of this land is Gokul, Govardhan. Cow centered culture. All we need is some land and cows. God says, you drink their milk, not their blood. So called civilized nations kill the cows and drink their blood. Including India, Indians also do this. India is one of the leading exporters of beef, second largest. This is a great misfortune.
Cruel Parliament:
Some years ago, in the Indian Parliament, cow slaughter was the agenda. Some of the Parliament members wanted to be kind to the cows. They said, “whereas when animals are killed or slaughtered in India; whereas the machinery is old and useless; whereas the blades used for killing animals are not sharp enough, therefore (the Members of Parliament concluded), we should modernize our slaughter houses. Certainly we should import the equipment that is used in America and Ireland so that there could be painless killing.” It was unanimously accepted. Just see what they said, “Cows, animals are suffering when they are slaughtered. We have to be kind to them. Let’s modernize. Let’s get the best equipments possible for slaughter. Let’s have sharpest blades so that when they are killed, they will not feel the pain. Before they can even think, they are gone. Are the Members of Parliament very kind? What do you think? Very kind?
Fine sentiments of kindness destroyed:
So this is how slaughter houses are maintained. Srila Prabhupada is pointing out that in the purport. This is the cause of the war. Killing has its origin in animal slaughter. One of the major causes of war and killing among people is animal slaughter. With the appearance of Kali in Kali yuga came the four sinful activities. One of them is animal killing. As animals are killed, one of the four pillars of religion, which is called ‘daya’ or mercy is broken. Daya dharma ka mool hai (the foundation of religion is mercy). When the animals are killed and gobbled up, you become merciless. You lose all kindness, all friendliness. With animal killing, animal eating, all finer sentiments like kindliness are gone. Then such person could be a killer. He could he kill others. Kill and then go for lunch. He won’t feel bad at all. As tiger kills other animals, it just goes to sleep as usual as if he has done nothing. Killing is just a routine thing for a tiger. He doesn’t go to any temple to lament and say, “I am sorry. I killed that animal. How could I do such a thing? I take a vow I will never ever do such thing again!” Does any tiger or lion do such confession? No. Human beings are becoming like that. They can kill. They come with guns and bombs and kill. They don’t even know whom they are killing. The target people are not even their enemies. They just load the gun and go to market and kill hundreds of people.
One American lady in New York met Srila Prabhupada. At that time, America was battling in Vietnam War. She says, “Swamiji they are recruiting young men and sending them to war front. My son has been on the list, booked already.” She wanted that swamiji should say something to console her or pray to the Lord so that he doesn’t have to go to the war. So Prabhupada responded to this lady’s dilemma. Prabhupada didn’t express any sympathy. He said, “Oh that is nature’s law. He had been killing. You have been killing cows in your country. Correct? Now it is your turn to be killed. You killed cows and now it is the humans’ turn. It is nature’s law.”
So ‘atiroshena’, excessive anger is always exhibited. Not only anger, but lust and greed also. This could make the individual, family, community or nation go blind under the influence of these enemies – kama, krodha, lobha etc. (lust, anger, greed, pride, illusion and envy). When a person is blinded by kama or lust, he is called kamandha (blind due to lust) or similarly krodhandha (blind due to anger) etc. So lust becomes the cause of blindness. It is not that you have no eyes. But your eyes do not show you what is what just like in the darkness your eyes don’t see the obstacles. Similarly your lust could make you blind.
The two sons of Kubera:
The two sons of Kubera, the demigod in charge of treasury became blind due to pride. Narada Muni was passing by singing on his veena, Narayan, Narayan. Narada muni bajaya vina Radhika Raman nam. But these sons could not hear that. They were busy with their mada (pride). They were madandhan (blind due to pride). Thus they were cursed. This story has a connection to Damodar lila. But they were also blessed at the same time.
Story of Dantavaktra:
So this kama, krodha, lobha are dangerous things. Do you know Dantavaktra? During Krishna’s time on Earth, Jay Vijay appeared as Shishupala and Dantavaktra. Shishupala was killed in Hastinapur. After that, Krishna had gone from Hastinapur to Dwarka. The news of Shishupala’s killing had already reached Mathura and Vraja. Not far from Shantanu kund, Bahulaban in Vrindavan, there is a place called Datiha. It is the place of Dantavaktra. When Dantavaktra heard the news, he became furious and decided to kill the killer of Shishupala. So much anger, that he lost the sense of direction. He thought Krishna was hiding in Dwarka. But he didn’t know which direction to go for Dwarka because of his excessive anger. Do you have that experience when someone is extremely angry? Due to excessive anger, sometimes such a person ends up in doing something crazy.
So the advice is when you are excessively angry, stop! Don’t act. Don’t do anything drastic. An angry person loses his power of discrimination to decide what is right and what is wrong. In the present story of Dhruva Maharaja also, Manu Maharaja is also reminding, “My dear boy, you have lost the sense of discrimination. Your brother was killed by just one yaksha and not by others.”
As this Dantavaktra was lost, Narada Muni came and asked, “May I help you, sir? You seem to be lost.” Dantavaktra said, “Yes please. You know I want to kill Krishna. Could you help me?” I am finding it difficult to get Him. Narada Muni said, “No problem. I will tell Krishna that you want to kill Him. Then He will come to you to get killed.” So Narada Muni went flying, and playing his Veena. Dwarkadhish Krishna heard that Dantavaktra wanted to kill Him. Narada Muni said, “Could you please go to him. He desperately wants to kill You. He cannot come here. Could you please appear before him?” Immediately Lord mounted the chariot with Daruka. And off they went. In no time, Krishna arrived at the gate of Mathura, at the place of Datanvaktra and said to him, “Here I am”. They started fighting and soon Dantavaktra was killed. Hari bol.
Battle with Jarasandha – bigger than Mahabharat war:
Much earlier to the Dantavaktra story, Krishna and Balaram were brought to Mathura by Akrura and they killed Kansa. Kansa’s two wives Asthi and Papti started crying and they went back to their father’s house, to Jarasandha. When Jarasandha got the news, he became furious and wanted to take revenge. Jarasandha also wanted to kill Krishna who killed his son in law, Kansa. He came with a big army.
The battle of Mahabharat is more popular. But this battle was bigger than Mahabharat in one sense. The battle of Kurukshetra lasted for 18 days. But this battle lasted for 18 years. This happened on the eastern side of Yamuna in Lohavan. Krishna and Balaram were fighting with Jarasandha and his army for 18 years. Of course, the battle did not take place every day. Throughout the year, it was a cold war or preparations for the actual war.
Jarasandha was brining big army every year. In Kurukshetra, there were 18 aukshahinis of army (640 million), 7 on Pandavas side and 11 on Kauravas side. But here, there were 23 aukshahinis of sena. Jarasandha was bringing 23 aukshahinis of sena every year. Bhagavatam mentions, Krishna and Balaram they would take only small army. 23 aukshahinis verses a small army of Krishna and Balaram.
There is another distinction between these two wars. In Mahabharat war, only Krishna took part and that too without any weapons. He was just there. Balaram showed no interest. In fact, He went on pilgrimage during Mahabharat war. Both had different opinions about the war. But in this war, both the brothers, Krishna and Balaram were fighting shoulder to shoulder. They were of the same opinion and their strategy was like this, kill the army of Jarasandha but don’t kill Jarasandha. Each year they would kill the entire amry of Jarasandha, sparing him alone. Only he would survive. Then Jarasandha would run back to his capital and contact his friends and gather another army as big as 23 aukshahinis. They would come marching every year, like a season. He would take some time to prepare and as soon as the army was ready, they would march to Mathura for war. For Krishna and Balaram, it was an easy job. They would just go across Yamuna. They were in town. When Jarasandha brought his army, Krishna and Balaram would go across Yamuna and battling with Jarasandha’s army, killing army and sparing Jarasandha. This happened 17 times.
What was Krishna doing? Was it excessive anger of Krishna battling so many times. No. It was as per the Lord’s plan. Earth was in trouble, had taken the form of a cow and had gone to the demigods. Demigods went to the Lord. The Lord said, “Yes, it looks like I will have to appear; you cannot handle this situation, O demigods.” So much of ‘dharmasya glani’ (decline in religious principles). So the Lord had to come to kill demons and to protect the devotees. You could imagine how many demoniac people were killed there! 23 aukshahinis multiplied by 17. 391 aukshahini divisions of army were killed.
What do you think? Did Jarasandha do service or disservice to Krishna? Jarasandha did service to Krishna. How? Krishna had appeared to kill the demons. And Jarasandha was gathering all the demons and offering them one after the other like a svahah offering in fire sacrifice. Krishna had come for this business of killing the demons. Some have retail while some have wholesale business. Krishna’s battling with Jarasandha was a wholesale business, it was wholesale killing. Otherwise, Krishna would have to go door to door to find each demon and kill him. Then go to another village, town etc. so Jarasandha was doing all this homework and was presenting it to Krishna. Jarasandha’s friends must be demoniac. They were cooperating with him, assisting him. So big battle took place in Vraja mandal, Vrindavan region. Krishna exhibited His anger and there is no limit on anger when Lord becomes angry. His anger is limitless.
Hari bol.
