Reading Prabhupads books is like getting his association

Hare Krishna
It’s good that all of you have come. If you would not be there, then there would not have been such a wonderful kirtan. When many devotees come together and chant that’s called as ‘sankirtan’. All of you were enjoying kirtan, I don’t have to tell it differently. ‘Ram naam ke hira moti loot sako to loot lo’. By seeing this Lord is happy and devotees like Narada Muni are also happy.

Once when in America there was kirtan going on, Narada muni came and he was very happy, Prabhupad told that to the devotees present there in that kirtan. Brahma does creation he is an engineer and the first Acharya in our sampradaya, Brahma-madhava-goudiya sampradaya. Brahmaji says ‘iti shodasakam namnam kali-kalmasha-nasanam’ Kali is full of dosha but one thing is the best- ‘kirtanad eva krsnasya mukta sanga param vrajet’. So inspite of so many faults Kali yuga has one quality by chanting one can attain perfection of life.
“asat-sanga-tyaga ei vaisnava-acara” (CC Madhya 22.87) so one has to satya from asatsanga and take association of devotees that’s vaishnav behavior.

In London, one person met a book distributor, he had some days back bought a book of Prabhupada and read it also and he got inspired and started chanting the holy name on a handmade. And started chanting and also learnt about the 4 regulative principles to be followed. Cricket also should not be played its waste of time. So he followed all regulative principles.

Srila Prabhupada used to do dictation in night and then his disciples would do transcription and tthen his books were printed and distributed the books are all powerful. Reading Prabhupad’s book that’s also sadhu-sanga through book. So this man got association of Prabhupada through his books.
Srila Prabhupada ki jai!! Reading Prabhupads books is like getting his association.

So this was one incident how a person got inspired. There are so many such incidents. Prabhupad used to write books and read his own books. Once somebody said Prabhupada you are reading your own books, Prabhupada said, “No no! Lord inspired me and I just wrote. These are books of Lord they are not mine.”

50 years back Prabhupad went to New York. So this year is golden jubilee of Prabhupad’s journey to New York. So that day will be a celebration day, I always say this- when a ‘Devaduta’ travelled in Jaladuta’, so Prabhupada went via Nagpur. Prabhupada went to Sri Lanka and said, “Very clean city like Puna”. Then Prabhupada went to Cochin and stayed for one day there in a house. So I went to that place with All India padayatra there and the lady there of that house told us, “I had cooked prasad for your gurudev when he had come to Cochin”.

So there will be celebration at Kolkata, Cochin on that special day. Then after one month boat reached at Boston, Prabhupada saw the people there were very busy. And Prabhupada was thinking I am sent by my gurudev to preach but people are so busy here, rat-race you can’t stop a rat. Hye! Wait shake hand but it will not wait he is busy running to his house. He has many houses he is busy making house. Then one day a snake comes and stays there and when the owner comes and Haribol, it becomes ‘Prasad’ for the snake. So like that we are also busy and one day Kal comes in form of death and end of the journey- yatra samapta.

So Prabhupada prayed to Lord

“nacao nacao prabhu nacao se-mate
kasthera puttali jatha nacao se-mate”
… Markine Bhagavata-dharma

When Prabhupada reached New York by boat nobody was there to receive him. He had his bag and a umbrella. Prabhupada did not know where to go, turn left or right nothing zero. In such conditions Prabhupada preached there. He was not alone Lord was with him and had wealth of Harinam with him, he had Bhagvatam with him, this is real wealth.

You all read Prabhupada Lilamrita, it’s time to read Prabhupada Lilamrita this year.
Prabhupada lilamrita ki………… jai. Buy if you don’t have, read it it’s available in many languages. We are in debt to Prabhupada. What he gave us? Krsna-consciousness, he gave Krsna to the whole world. There was deficiency of Krsna-consciousnes, so Prabhupada gave Krsna-consciousness to the whole world, because of his mercy there are many followers of Krsna consciousness all over the world.

In Durban few months back I was there, there was ratha yatra 10,000 devotees had come for the 4 days festival celebration. Haribol !! Prabhupad started ratha yatra now we have ratha yatra all over the world. All mercy of Harinam, one who says Hare Krsna he immediately comes in contact with the Lord. Janmastami also is celebrated all over, book distribution all over; every 2 second one book of Prabhupada is distributed. Haribol!

In Caitanya raj, Caitanya Empire every time in some place some arti is going on, every hour, round the clock full week. So after reading Prabhupad’s books there comes revolution on consciousnesses. So try to join as many as new people to our movement. That’s the perfection of life. Everybody is suffering so many bhoga and Roga. 6 crore people are suffering from diabetes. Lord says ‘yogi bhava’ but people are after becoming bhogi, bhogi bhava.

So yoga day is coming 21 June, you also preach about bhakti-yoga. 6th chapter of Gita, Lord tells about astanga-yoga. Yoga is for health and fitness. So on that yoga day you go and preach about Bhakti yoga-connecting atma with Parmatma so preach and give the Holy Name to everybody.

Nitai Gaur premanande Hari Haribol!

Lord says you just take shelter of me!

Sundar Lala Saci Dulala
… (Vaishnava Song- Guru Maharaj singing)….
Radha Bankebihari ki… Jai! Grantharaj Srimad Bhagavata ki jai! Srila Prabhupada ki jai!

So this morning reading from Srimad Bhagavatam, canto 2, chapter 7, text number 53

“Mayam varnayato ’musya ?svarasyanumodatah
srnvatah sraddhaya nityam mayayatma na muhyati” (
SB 2.7.53)

mayam — affairs of the external energy; varnayatah — while describing; amusya — of the Lord; ?svarasya — of the Personality of Godhead; anumodatah — thus appreciating; srnvatah— thus hearing; sraddhaya — with devotion; nityam — regularly; mayaya — by the illusory energy; atma — the living entity; na — never; muhyati — becomes illusioned

Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada ki… Jai

The Lord’s activities in association with His different energies should be described, appreciated and heard in accordance with the teachings of the Supreme Lord. If this is done regularly with devotion and respect, one is sure to get out of the illusory energy of the Lord.

Purport:
“The science of learning is a subject matter seriously is different from the sentiments of fanatics”. And you could talk about each statement of Prabhupada also further. Fanatics! You know fanatics? Ya, You do? There are lots of them.
“Fanatics or fools may consider the Lord’s activities in relation with the external energy to be useless for them, and they may falsely claim to be higher participants in the internal energy of the Lord, but factually the Lord’s activities in relation with the external energy and the internal energy are equally good.” Ya! Yoga Maya and Maha Maya, Yoga maya is active in the spiritual world internally directly in relation with the Lord. While the external energy is dealing with external energy. Mayam! Says ‘mayam varnayato amusya’- Lord’s Maya, Lord’s external energy, this material world including how Lord first creates and then controls and maintains and eventually, annihilation also. These activities of the Lord Maha Visnu, Garbhadakasayi Visnu, Ksirodakasayi Visnu. These three Visnus put together is one avatar, Purusa avatar of the Lord, one of the avatars, Purusa avatar. So their activities are in relationship with the external energy which have been described also in the beginning cantos of Bhagavatam. So, we have to go further before, the point that Srila Prabhupada is making would be clear. So we are just introducing this. So, they are both equally good, that’s one point. Those are Lord’s activities either in relationship with internal energy or the external energy. They are “Lord’s” activities, “Lord’s” activities, so they are equally good.

“On the other hand, those who are not completely free from the clutches of the Lord’s external energy should devoutly hear regularly about the activities of the Lord in relation with the external energy.” In the beginning, “They should not foolishly jump up to the activities of the Lord’s internal energy, falsely attracted by such activities like His Rasa-Lila.” I think you are getting some points here now. Rasa- Lila is in the tenth canto, so don’t jump. Read earlier cantos also which are dealing with Lord’s activities with the, in relationship with the external energy of the Lord- “this” world.

“The cheap reciters of the Bhagavatam are very much enthusiastic about the activities of the Lord’s internal potency and the pseudo devotees, absorbed in material sense enjoyment, falsely jump to the stage of liberated souls and thus fall down deeply into the clutches of external energy”. “Some of them think that to hear about the pastimes of the Lord means to hear about His activities with the Gopis or about His pastimes like lifting the Govardhana Hill and they have nothing to do with the Lord’s plenary expansions as the purusavataras” This is how they think, there is a party thinking like this. And the “pastimes of the creation, maintenance or annihilation of the material worlds.” We have nothing to do with this; the, the creation, maintenance, annihilation and they go to the Rasa dance and other pastimes in the tenth canto.

Rather, the descriptions of such activities of the Lord as the purusavataras are specifically meant for persons who are in the clutches of the external energy. Topics like the Rasa-Lila are meant for the liberated souls and not for the conditioned souls. The conditioned souls, therefore, must hear with appreciation and devotion the Lord’s pastimes in relationship with the external energy, and such acts are as good as the hearing of Rasa-Lila in the liberated stage. A conditioned soul should not imitate the activities of liberated souls. Lord Sri Caitanya never indulged in hearing the Rasa-Lila with ordinary men.

That’s the point! He did indulge in hearing Rasa-Lila pastimes; but not with the ordinary men. With Ramananda Rai and Svarupa Damodar, they were liberated they are nitya-siddhas in fact one is Lalita other one is? – Visakha, Lord is talking with them. “In the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the science of God, the first nine cantos prepare the ground for hearing the Tenth Canto.” Ok I’ll get back to that. “This will be further explained in the last chapter of this canto.” We’ll take a look at it soon.

In the Third Canto it will be more explicit. A pure devotee of the Lord, therefore, must begin reading or hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam from the very beginning and not from the Tenth Canto. We have several times been requested by some so-called devotees to take up the Tenth Canto immediately, but we have refrained from such an action because we wish to present Srimad-Bhagavatam as the science of Godhead and not as a sensuous understanding for the conditioned souls. This is forbidden by such authorities as Sri Brahmaji. By reading and hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam as a scientific presentation, the conditioned souls will gradually be promoted to the higher status of transcendental knowledge after being freed from the illusory energy based on sense enjoyment

Thus end the Bhaktivedanta purports of the Second Canto, Seventh Chapter, of the Srimad-Bhagavatam, entitled “Scheduled Incarnations with Specific Functions”.
Mayam varnayato musya ?svarasyanumodatah,
srnvatah sraddhaya nityam mayayatma na muhyati.

The Lord’s activities in association with His different energies should be described, appreciated and heard in accordance with the teachings of the Supreme Lord. If this is done regularly with devotion and respect, one is sure to get out of the illusory energy of the Lord.

Ok so this is our Acarya, Lord Brahma speaking. Kindly Speaking “Mayayatma na muhyati” Atma has been illusioned and how to make that atma free from illusion is the goal. Goal of Dharma, goal of Bhagavatam also. So, how could that be achieved is described here. Mayaya- Means by maya. Mayaya means by maya. With maya ‘Atma na muhyati’- Atma is not illusioned. Well of course, this is being talked about, the atma’s… ya..haribol.. Let’s talk about hearing, when you sleep, that’s the end of the hearing. And then, we’ll continue to be what we are here. Illusioned! All the atmas in the Lord’s abode are… it has nothing to do with maya in the spiritual sky. “Sambhavami atma mayaya” (BG 4.6). Or His maya, the internal. Maya is also of two kinds you could say. Yoga maya and Maha maya, both are mayas. Both are energies, energy that governs, controls all those liberated souls in the spiritual sky, is internal energy of the Lord

“Mahatmanas tu mam partha, daivim prakrtim asritah”
(BG 9.13). Lord said that in Gita. Mahatmanas tu mam partha- Oh! that person is Mahatma, that person is mahatma! Who is that mahatma? ‘Mahatmanas tu mam partha, daivim prakrtim asritah’- the person, the soul that has taken shelter of “daivi prakrti” of the Lord, that is mahatma. So, there are “Daivi” prakrtis. Also Radharani is that “daivi prakrti”. So those who have taken shelter of “daivi” prakrti of the Lord- internal energy of the Lord- Yoga maya of the Lord they are Mahatmas. So in the spiritual sky, everyone is mahatma. No Duratmas, no bad atmas. Only, only pure devotees, entire population of that of pure devotees. Enlightened! “Enlightened” devotees. So, two Mayas, that is also Maya, the Yoga Maya and Maha Maya is active here, represented by Durga.

Radharani in the spiritual sky and Durga in the material world. Durga! She makes it difficult for going. “Dur..ga!” ‘Ga” -means to go and ‘Dur’ -means very difficult to go out. Durga also means fort, the fort of the Maha Maya, Maha Maya’s fort and Durga Devi is superintendent. And she is Chaya of the original spiritual Maya. Spiritual Maya’s, she is Chaya – shadow. And she “prakrteh kriyamanani, gunaih karmani sarvasah (BG 3.27). prakrteh kriyamanani, gunaih karmani sarvasah. All the souls here are governed by prakrti, Durga.

Now, these three modes of material nature- Sattva-Guna, Rajo-Guna, Tamo-Guna. What is that? Gunamayi, Gunamayi maya, what is that? – Daivi hy esa! Daivi hy esa guna-mayi, mama maya duratyaya (Bg 7.14). Daivi hy esa “guna-mayi”- My maya, external energy is “guna-mayi”maya. “Guna-mayi!” -full of gunas. Basically, three gunas – sattva- guna, raji-guna, tamo-guna. Gunamayi maya, Mama maya? “Mama” maya, Who’s Maya? – “Mama maya!” “My” maya, “My” energy. “Duratyaya”- very difficult to transgress! To transcend. To get out of the clutches of my three guna-mayi maya is very difficult. Difficult, but not impossible. Difficult it is, but; not impossible. So, how to, is there any possibility how to become free from the clutches of this tri guna-mayi maya? So, as soon as the three gunas take over, the soul becomes conditioned soul, bound up soul. Mam eva ye prapadyante, mayam etan taranti te. The Lord has the material problem, spiritual solution coming up. The problem is we are caught, we are bound and we are being tossed by the waves of this illusory existence. Thrown from one body to another, one planet to another, one species to another! And then, but, Mam eva, mam eva ye prapadyante! Mayam etam taranti te. “Mam eva”- those who surrender unto Me, Mayam etam taranti te- immediately, instantly they could become free from my Maya.

There are two.., there are but two things. One is Krsna, other one is Maya, there is no third party. Third party is us, in fact. We are the third called tatastha energy. Internal energy, external energy and we are? – Beech, Beech mein (speaking in Hindi). Like a beach, beach is always in the middle. Of what? – One side there is the water, other side there is the land and the middle is what? – “Beach.” Beech mein Beach (Hindi). Then what happens? Sometimes that beach becomes part of the ocean. Waves come, they cover and entire beach is covered then it’s part of the ocean. Other times, it is part of the land. So sometimes the beach is covered by the water, other times covered by? – The land. So, our status is like that. The tatastha energy is like that, marginal energy is like that. Sometimes covered, governed by the internal energy. It could also be governed, covered by the external energy.

So now, as we are here in this material world, we were very much covered by the external energy of the Lord, influenced by the external energy of the Lord. And then hence, in deep illusion and the goal is how to become free from this illusion. Being governed by the external energy is not very pleasing, It’s torture. And Srila Prabhupada explains there is a cat. Cat holds sometimes the rat. Rat is held by the cat, Yes? Yes, yes? You have seen? That happens in this country also? We see that in India happening around. And then, sometimes, same cat, mother cat, also holds the kitten. “Miaw, miaw, miaw..” (Guru Maharaj making sound of a cat). The helpless, little baby cat, the kitten is crying “miaw”, mummy! Miaw, miaw, miaw. And the mother cat comes and holds by the neck and brings upstairs or next door or here, there. So, the holder is the same, the cat holding. Sometimes rat is held and other times the kitten is held. When the rat is held, is rat very happy in the mouth, the clutches of, the jaws of the cat? Is the rat happy? Yes or No? So the same cat, when it holds the kitten, does kitten try to get out of the clutches of the “Cat’s” clutches? Very happy! The soft and warm touch of the teeth. As long as you like to hold me, I am very happy in this situation. I am very happy. The kitten never complains, never tries to get out of the clutches. So, it is like that the same Maya. Well, Lord’s Maya, as we are hearing, there no difference between Lord’s external energy or His dealings with the external energy and His dealings with the internal energy. Because it is same Lord in fact. This, He is holding. But; for the conditioned soul, when external energy holds, this is a torture and when internal energy holds, gives shelter to the soul, soul is very, very happy.

So, goal is to get out of the clutches. Like a rat, rat’s position rat is held. We are like a rat held by Maya. Not happy there, we want to be held by the Lord’s internal energy. “Then” we would be happy. So, daivi hy esa guna-mayi, mama maya duratyaya. Lord’s Daivi prakrti is holding us, all the souls in this material world and souls are not happy. They cannot be happy in that situation. “Mahatmanas tu mam partha, daivim prakrtim asritah” Mahatmas are those who take shelter of the internal energy of the Lord and Lord says ‘yes!’ “Mam eva ye prapadyante, mayam etan taranti te”. You just take shelter of me! Surrender unto me! You just, you just call out like that kitten miaw, miaw! Miaw, miaw. Immediately the mother cat must come. That’s the arrangement. Does come! Must come! So, the conditioned soul is in trouble- Help! Help! Kelp! Help! – Krsna Krsna Krsna Krsna, Krsna Krsna pahimam. Please protect me- Krsna Krsna Krsna Krsna, Krsna Krsna raksamam. (CC Madhya 7.96).
So this – Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Although we are singing here, but, this call, emergency call. Someone in distress is calling – Ö Lord, O Lord, O Lord!” Enough is enough. Please get me out of here Oh! Lord.
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

Calling for Krsna so that He would accept us again, give us shelter again…
“Punarapi jananam, punarapi maranam, Punarapi janani jathare shayanam
Iha samsare bahudustare, kripaya apare pahi murare” (Bhaja Govindam by Sri Sankaracarya, text 22).

This is, Sankaracarya is praying, this is Sankaracarya’s prayer. My dear Lord, “punarapi jananam, punarapi maranam” – repeated birth and death. For a while, Janani jathare shayanam- lying there, called shayanam. Sleeping, lying in the womb of the mother, not very comfortable situation. Not at all “iha samsare bahudustare, kripaya apare pahi murare”. “Please, please O! Lord, please.” Protect me from this birth and death and entering into another womb, into another womb… “Mayayatma na muhyati”- So, this verse is talking. When you come to the stage, the stage of the free from the illusion caused, clutches caused by Maya. Mayaya, “na” muhyati- Free from influence of Maya. You would like to attain such a stage? Or, yes ok? How are you Sir? Fine, everybody is fine. “I Am fine.” He is in ICU, but, if you ask him how are you? – I am fine. So, first we should be realizing we are in deep trouble, trouble waters. And then, that will to get out. ‘Will’- I want to become free form this illusion, free from this bond, free from this suffering! Free from this suffering.

So, when that will is strong, I mean there has to be will right. There has to be will to become free from the clutches, free from suffering. Then, we would be looking for some other alternatives. We have tried this, we have tried that and nothing is working out, then I will try out something different. The “will” has to be there. Thinking, feeling, willing. Thinking and feeling. “Feeling” not filling, “Feeling”, “feel.” If we are filled with “feeling.” We are full or filled with “feeling.” That feeling would be there, after thinking. Thinking, feeling and that strong will. So, more we think, more we think, more we think, more we think. What happens? From thinking, comes the feeling and when feeling becomes stronger, stronger, solidified, then, the strong will, strong will. And then, where there is will, then what happens? We will find the way! So, we are also making point as will… (microphone problem).

Feeling, something thrilling, microphone is feeling. Failing! So, by hearing, this thinking, food for thought. From “hearing” comes the feeling. Thinking, feeling, willing. So the thoughts are here. The topics are talked about here and as we hear more and more.., as we hear more, there is more… We think. We “Hear”, we think right? The hearing makes us think. Is that right? Hearing makes us think. We take notice of something, noteworthy. As we hear, the feelings are stirred up leading to the strong will. So, anyway, we could, then, kind of conclude that hearing is important. Hearing is important, hearing is important in order for this thinking, feeling and willing to happen. It all starts with hearing. And that is what is being talked here. Sranvatah – hearing, Sranvatah- we should hear! We should hear! How should one hear? One should hear sraddhaya. One should hear with faith. “Sraddhaval labhate jnanam” (BG 4.39). Krsna said- If you have faith, then you will acquire the knowledge. If you hear something with the faith, then that, you will accept that. You will admit, you will accept that. That will become your property. That will become part of you. But, if you have no faith, then you will reject. That will bounce off. That, what heard, will not settle. That will not become your possession because you don’t have faith or you have a doubt.

So, sraddhaval labhate jnanam, Samsayatma! Samsayatma vinasyati! (BG 4.40). If you doubt, you doubt, doubting, doubting, doubting, doubts, vinasyati! You will be destroyed. Already destroyed and you will be further destroyed. So there is talk of hearing here. But hearing how, how to hear? – sraddhaya. And what kind of hearing? – nityam- constant hearing -hearing all the time. “Nityam bhagavata-sevaya, bhagavaty uttama-sloke bhaktir bhavati naisthiki” (SB 1.2.18). Same Bhagavatam has already made this statement. Hare Hare. Haribol! Gaura Haribol!
What is that statement? Says – “Nityam bhagavata sevaya”
This says nityam also. That one also says nityam bhagavata sevaya. And if you hear and you hear nityam. Nityam means, nityam means constant or nityam also meaning regular. One person said “you know, I, I visit, Bankebihari Temple, I am a “regular visitor.” Every Janmasthami.” That’s also nityam right? That’s nityam. He is a nitya sevaka, nitya visitor. Nitya means regular, once a year. ”Every year, once a year, I am there!” I am a regular visitor. So, that is also nityam. That person could claim. He is right if he says I am nityam, I am regular. But; there is also, ya then, every Sunday he is also nityam. Every Sunday, I am Nityam. Every, every day, every morning. That is also nityam. And this nityam, has to be extended.

So, the terms used in the Sastras says ksana, anuksana, ksana means moment. Ksana means moment. This is the time factor that cannot be further broken into pieces. Just one moment. One moment or you are visiting or you are hearing. This moment- Ksana- anuksana, anu means the following moment, also hearing or also remembering. Ksana- anuksana. This moment and the next moment also and the following moment also and the following moment also and that is also nityam. So again we will have to understand what is this nityam.

“Tesam satata yuktanam bhajatam priti-purrvakam” (B.G 10.10). Lord said in Bhagavad-Gita Lord said something similar. “Tesam satata yuktanam bhajatam priti-purrvakam”- “Those who serve me” how? – Sraddhaya or? Well, with faith or priti, with loving, loving service and satata yuktanam. Satat! Satat! Means constant, constant! Like satat, word satat. How does it sound? Is there any space between those letters? Satat. They are so much next to each other – satat. Constant like that. The word, when you hear this word satat, is there some space? There is no spacing out. There is no interspace, satat. That is the purpose the Lord is using this, this particular word satat. ‘Tesam satata yuktana’- Those who are engaged – Yukta, equipped with the service. How often? Or what kind of service? Satata-yuktanam. I mean that’s the, that’s the goal. What do the residents of the spiritual sky, they are also serving the Lord. Do they go herding cows with Krsna once a year? They claim “yes! I am, I am a regular cowherd boy. I am regular associate of the Lord. Every, on Gopasthami day, I go herding cows.” No! They do, they do it every, every, every day. And of course, other times, they do some other things also. “Pritipurvakam and Stata-yuktanam” And the goal is going back to home, back to Godhead. Then this, well, that’s fine once a year; but then, it will take long, long, long time.

So, Sranvatah? “Srnvatam Sva- kathah Krsnah, punya- sravana-kirtanah” (SB 1.2.17). Lord’s, the Bhagavatam also has said Srnvatah. About hearing this, srnvatah, so Srnvatam Sva- kathah Krsnah, punya- sravana-kirtanah. Hearing about the Lord. His katha, of the Lord is? – Punyasravana- kirtanah. This is punyatma. Most pious – punya. They have acquired punya by doing what? Punya sravana- kitranah. And this hearing, what would that hearing do? “Hrdy antah stho hy abhadrani, vidhunoti suhrt sadam” (SB 1.2.17). Hrdi antah sthah. Hrdi means in the heart. Which part of the heart? Well, everywhere, specially, hrdy “antah” sthah. “Deep” within the heart- Core of the heart. There are so many black spots, desires, vasanas, this, that. ‘Hrdy antah stho hy abhadrani”- is abhadra, amangala, inauspicious. Mundane, matter, “stuck” to your heart. Hrdaya granthi! There are knots also. Hrdaya granthi. The heart is full of knots. Knots of attachment. “Asa pasa satair badhhah” (BG 16.12). This is all hidden in the heart. Well, in the heart, in the mind. This is part of our? – Antahakarana. The subtle body made up of mind, intelligence, false ego and the consciousness. This is our antahakarana. And in there, you will find all the, all the desires. Asa Pasa Sataih. “Sataih” – hundreds, thousands badhhah. This is how one conditioned soul becomes baddhah jiva. Baddhah- bound! So many strings attached us. “Strings” attached. Bound. You cannot move. So as one hears! As one hears..

“Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”

Or as one hears “punya-sravana-kirtanah”, sva katha Krsnah, then that katha, those topics will do the cleansing of the heart. Cleansing of the consciousness. All those desires will be cleansed. “Ceto- darpana marjnam” (Sri Sri Siksha Astakam, Verse 1) will happen. Consciousness cleansing. Become free from desires. It is possible, becoming free from Kama. Ok kama, get rid of kama, get rid of kama!

So, by hearing about Krsna, the “hearing” about Krsna, the “hearing” about Krsna. As soul hears about Krsna with, with faith and with, constantly and cleansing will happen. Thinking, feeling, willing will happen. Will to attain Krsna will also become stronger. Will to go back to Krsna will also become stronger. Well, hearing. From hearing comes thinking, feeling, willing. “Hrdy antah stho hy abhadrani vidhunoti surt sadam

“Nityam bhagavata-sevaya, bhagavaty uttama-sloke bhaktir bhavati” and, that statement also says as one hears Srimad-Bhagavatam, nityam bhagavata sevaya. Srila Prabhupada gave us this nityam bhagavata. Not just seven days and your obligation is over. Bhagavat saptah, seven days and that again jump to the Rasa dance. Forget all these earlier cantos. Well, everything done not in authorized fashion.

So, as one hears Srimad-Bhagavatam, then, that person hearing Bhagavatam becomes Bhagavat. What does that mean? In relationship with the Lord, that is called Bhagavat. From Bhagavat, “Bhaagavat”- related with the Lord. Bhagavat-Dharma or Srimad-Bhagavat or Maha-Bhagavat, Bhagavat, devotee Bhagavat. His activities would be fit to be included in the Bhagavat or He is fit to enter the pastimes of the Lord. “Bhagavaty uttama-sloke”- Because he has developed now Bhagavaty uttama-sloke, “bhaktir bhavati.” Bhaktih bhavati. He will attain bhakti- bhaktir bhavati naisthiki! Another dimension being added here. He will achieve Bhakti! What kind of Bhakti? – naisthiki bhakti. He had started with sraddha. He had started with sraddha. Sranvatah sraddhaya nityam. And by hearing and hearing and hearing and hearing, thinking, feeling, wiling, your will is becoming stronger. Your sraddha is becoming stronger. And now, you have attained nistha. You were at the level of sraddha, then, you did Sadhu sanga. Means you did hearing. Bhajana-kriya, you did practices as per the instructions. And Anartha nivrtti. That has done what? – You have become free from anarthas. “Anartha nivrtti sa” (CC Madhya 23.11). Anarthas, becoming free from anrthas. As one becomes free from anarthas, undesirable, unwanted, useless stuff, activities or thoughts or whatever. “An”, “an”- “artha”, an-artha, artha. Artha means ‘meaning’ also. Means meaningless (Anartha). Artha also meaning economy, economy. So, mundane economy could also be anartha.

So, as one becomes free from anarthas, then, he is now nistha. Bhaktir bhavati naisthiki! The bhakti is described. Adjective used to describe Bhakti is naisthiki Bhakti. He started with sraddha bhakti. Now he has naisthiki bhakti- mature. When sraddha matures, when sraddha becomes pakva, matured stage of sraddha, faith is nistha. So, nistha, Srila Prabhupada translates that as irrevocable or irreversible. No reverses, no U-turns. Drdha sraddha. Drdha sraddha is nistha. No “Aya Ram, gaya Ram”- He is not – (Speaking Hindi) Aya Ram, Gaya bhi Ram Pata hi nahi chala. When he comes, when he goes, very unsteady, “Very” unsteady. So, from that unsteady stage, one becomes now fixed, fixed up. So, how, how did he become fixed? – By hearing. Nityam bhagavata-sevaya, bhagavaty uttama-sloke bhaktir bhavati naisthiki. And then, there is lot more, higher to go. And then, there is asakti, then there is ruci, then there is the Bhava, then there is the, there is the “Prem” levels.

So, chanting is also, chanting and hearing that we do, it is also, becomes nistha level chanting and it becomes asakti level chanting. From sraddha to prem, that ladder is there. And then, ruci level chanting, bhava level chanting and finally, “prem” level chanting. Fully evolved. So Naisthiki is like halfway through, long way, long way to go. The uphill task is over. And you are climbing the hill. Climbing, climbing, climbing, then, last few stretches becomes even harder. Harder to get there. Hundred people started walking, climbing. Mountain climbing, fifty went halfway through and then, another twenty five were dropped and another, were dropped. Finally you will find only five persons reaching the mountain top. They made it! They made it! So, at sraddha level, many started at sraddha level. Many started. But; to come to this naisthiki requires a special endeavor, extra endeavor. And this endeavor is this, ya, hearing. Hearing, chanting and practicing and ever and ever and you are at nistha and then got to keep going forward also. So that Mayayatma na muhyati! Atma becomes “free” from, completely free from illusion. And he has developed Krsna prem which is what? – The goal of life is Krsna Prem. We should avoid all the ten offences against the holy name so that we achieve the goal of life which is what? – “Krsna Prem” is achieved, “Krsna Prem”.

So, by constant hearing, Sravanam, Kirtanam, Visnoh Smaranam. We remember the Lord more. We are reminded of the Lord more and more as we hear more, Sravanam, Kirtanam. And hearing, so, has to be about Visnoh smaranam. Visnu, hearing about Visnu or Visnu-tattva – Krsna, Ram, Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Then you will remember them only. You heard about Krsna, you will l remember Him. You heard about Maya, you will remember Maya. So, whatever the topic of you are hearing is, that is what you will end up remembering. So, this world is reminding, busy reminding us of Maya and if you want to remember Krsna, then, hearing about Krsna. Well, that is, Srimad-Bhagavat Gita also and Bhagavatam also. In fact, before Bhagavatam, hearing Bhagavad-Gita. Not jump to Bhagavatam, read Bhagavad-Gita. Do ABCD first before you go for higher education. So, Gita, Bhagavat and then, gradually, Tenth canto, then, Caitanya Caritamrta. And chanting of the holy name is always there. “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Ram Hare Ram…” and this also has to be heard? – Sraddhaya and nityam. With faith, with love and devotion and constantly so that we get rid of this anartha business cum go to higher levels. Go higher and go higher and go “higher…”

Hare Krishna to you.

“tam agatam ta utthaya pranipatyabhinandya ca
pujayitva yathadesam sukhasinam athabruvan” (S.B 4.31.4)

Translation and short purport as by Srila Prabhupada, Srila Prabhupada ki jai!!

Translation:
As soon as the Pracetas saw that the great sage Narada had appeared, they immediately got up even from their asanas. As required, they immediately offered obeisances and worshipped him, and when they saw that Narada Muni was properly seated, they began to ask him questions.

Purport:
It is significant that all the Pracetas were engaged in practicing yoga to concentrate their minds on the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

pracetasa ucuh

“svagatam te surarse adya distya no darsanam gatah
tava cankramanam brahmann abhayaya yatha raveh” (S.B 4.31.5)

pracetasah ucuh-the Pracetas said; su-agatam-welcome; te-unto you; sura-rse- O sage among the demigods; adya-today; distya-by good fortune; nah-of us; darsanam-audience; gatah-you have come; tava-your; cankramanam-movements; brahman- O great brahmana; abhayaya-for fearlessness; yatha-as; raveh- of the sun.

Translation and purport again by Srila Prabhupada ki jai!!

Translation:
All the Pracetas began to address the great sage Narada: O great sage, O brahmana, we hope you met with no disturbances while coming here. It is due to our great fortune that we are now able to see you. By the travelling of the sun, people are relieved from the fear of the darkness of night-a fear brought about by thieves and rogues. Similarly, your traveling is like the sun’s, for you drive away all kinds of fear.

Purport:

Because of the night’s darkness, everyone is afraid of rogues and thieves, especially in great cities. People are often afraid to go out on the streets, and we understand that even in a great city like New York people do not like to go out at night. More or less, when it is night everyone is afraid, either in the city or in the village. Ok village is also there, I was thinking of my experience of the village, getting scared, not only cities, Prabhupada is writing, in the village also. Jaya Radha Rasabihari ki jai!! However, as soon as the sun rises, everyone is relieved. Similarly, this material world is dark by nature. Everyone is afraid of danger at every moment, but when one sees a devotee like Narada, all fear is relieved. Just as the sun disperses darkness, the appearance of a great sage like Narada disperses ignorance. When one meets Narada or his representative, a spiritual master, one is freed from all anxiety brought about by ignorance.

(Maharaj repeating the verse and translation again)

I remember, one thing came to my mind that we also have travelled to Mathura by train and then to Radha Damodara temple. This was in ’72 and just now we have, we have darshan of deities there. We went into quarters of Srila Prabhupada small and as we were sitting around, about dozen devotees from Mumbai, our leader was Pancadravida prabhu and he was going to be swami during that Kartika. So we had arrived and I was also, I was Raghunath and I was going to become Lokanath that month, anyways a small thing. As we were sitting around Srila Prabhupada, it was Panchadravida prabhu; it is only appropriate as we see here the etiquette. The Pracetas as they are sitting at the feet of Narada Muni and as he has taken his seat, they are questioning, they are also glorifying him.

So in that mood, Panchadravida, he was glorifying Srila Prabhupada and it was morning hours, sun had just risen as we were going from Mathura station to Radha Damodara, sun was rising in the east and as we arrived in Prabhupada’s quarters, he started glorifying Srila Prabhupada.

‘Srila Prabhupada, you are brilliant like sun’ I do not remember more but he has, I don’t know maybe he got this idea from Pracetas, that Narada Muni was compared- ‘abhayaya yatha raveh’ just like, your travelling is like the sun’s travelling and he drives away all kinds of fear. So very similar the mood or expression was there, addressing on our behalf, our leader was addressing Srila Prabhupada and comparing him, ‘you are like a sun, you are brilliant like a sun’, Srila Prabhupada ki jai!!

‘svagatam’ at the time, Srila Prabhupada welcomed us in Vrndavana and he was inquiring. ‘How was your travelling, we hope you made no disturbances while coming here’, that is Pracetas talking to Narada Muni. So in Vrndavana, Srila Prabhupada was also making inquiries, how was our journey, in fact, another time in Mayapur, we walked from Vrndavana to Mayapur and as we arrived there in Prabhupada’s quarters. Prabhupada inquired from all the padayatris bullock cart Sankirtan Party, ‘how was the journey?’, Prabhupada asked, ‘how was the journey?’ and I remember me replying saying, ‘it was easy journey to Mayapur planet Prabhupada’. The title of the book, Easy Journey to Other Planets, so I put that into, it was easy journey to Mayapur planet Srila Prabhupada. We had travelled in both of these cases, so Srila Prabhupada was very kindly inquiring how was the journey, how was the travels. And here Pracetas were inquiring as we always do; how was the travel, how was the flight.

‘svagatam’ and you are welcome, ‘svagatam te’- we welcome you and who are you, ‘sura rse’ you are sage among the Demigods, the few verses earlier was also described as the ‘sura – asura’ he’s the sage among the suras and asuras. ‘dhiradhira jana priyau priya karau manyau saranyakarau’ like that the six Goswamis, ‘dhiras and adhiras, gentlemen and ruffians, in both the camps, six Goswamis were very popular or honoured, so was Srila Narada Muni. ‘distya no darsanam gatah’- it is our good fortune that we have darshan of yours, we are getting your audience, we have your audience, ‘darsanam’ we’ll come back to this ‘darsanam’. ‘tava cankramanam brahman’, ‘cankramanam’ – going round and round and round, you are ‘cankramanam’, you are going around, ‘yatha raveh’ -it is just like ravi, ravi is sun. Today is Ravivar, today is Sunday, today is sun’s day, so today is called Ravivar and tomorrow is Somavar, someone else’s day and Mangal’s var. We have 7 days each one for attributed to different Personalities. Today is the sun’s day, Ravi’s var, Ravivar today so ‘yatha raveh’ just like sun. Your wandering around is just like sun and not only you are wandering like sun, that is also something else also like sun that you do, what does the sun do? He disperses darkness, disperses darkness, ‘krsna surya sam maya hain andakar, jahan krsna vahan nahin maya andakar‘ -where there is sun, there is no darkness, where there is Krsna, there is no Maya.

So where there is sun, there is no darkness. So as sun disperses the darkness, drives away darkness and as the result ‘abhayaya’ immediately people are relieved, as soon as the sun rise, they get relieved, relief from the darkness and what causes, darkness causes fear, fear from thieves and rogues and what, serpents’ lot of parties. The ghosts, they also appear at night time, terrorists may come take advantage of darkness, the dark activities, activities in mode of ignorance take place at night time. There is ‘tama’ what is that? ‘evanukampartham aham ajnana jam tamah‘ Lord Krsna says in Bhagavad Gita 10th chapter, 11 verse- that when I am kind to somebody, what do I do? ‘anukampartham’ My ‘anukampa’ -My compassion to somebody, in what form? ‘aham ajnana jam tamah’ I- aham, ‘ajnanajam tamah’ ‘tama’ the darkness born from ‘ajnana jam’. Ajnana- the ignorance, ja- the birth, ignorance gives birth to tamah- the darkness, ‘ajnanajam tamah’ ‘aham ajnanajam tamah’ what do I do? ‘nasayamy’ – I destroy that ignorance caused by what? ‘tamah’ ‘aham ajnana jam’ ignorance, darkness caused by ignorance, ‘nasayamy’ I destroy how do I destroy? ‘nasayamy atma bhava stho jnana dipena bhasvata’- I light the lamp within the heart of that person and ‘bhasvata’ immediately there is the light, ‘bhasvata’ . ‘Bha’ is light, ‘bhaskara’ sun is also called Bhaskara, ‘kara’ means doer, he is a doer of what? ‘bha’, the light. He is a doer of the light. He is a spreader of the light; he spreads the light, so sun has another name called Bhaskara. As also Bharata, people of the nation which are those who are ‘rata’ are absorbed in ‘bha’ the light, the light of torch, light of knowledge and they are Bharatiya not just because of their passport, I have Indian Passport, I am Bharatiya, I am Indian, no. By definition, if you are absorbed in light coming from Bhagavata and Bhagavad Gita, then you are Bharatiya, then you should have Bharatiya passport otherwise we should surrender all the passports (Laughter).

So as that sun spreads the light, drives away the fear and that is what you do also, O! brahman, Narad Muni has been addressed as first of all, you are a ‘sura-rse’ – you are sage among the demigods, that is one address and you are also brahman, you are brahman translated as ‘brahmana’. And who is the Brahman ? ‘brahma janati iti brahmanah’ ‘brahma janati’ – when one knows brahman, brahma is a brahmana. And in this case, he not only knows ‘brahmeti paramatmeti bhagavan’ he also knows Bhagavan, so you are knower of the Truth, you are knower of the Truth, O! how lucky we are. ‘distya’ we are very fortunate that today we have ‘ady’- today we have ‘darsanam gatah’, we have your darshan, we have your audience, ‘svagatam’- you are welcome. Such Personality as you are, we welcome you, ‘su svagatam, “svagatam krsna …..……svagatam” we welcome you.

When King Pariksit welcomed Sukadeva Goswami to the large audience of sages sitting on the bank of Ganga, sitting around King Pariksit and wondering what to do, what process he should follow and whole deliberation is going on. And while that was on, there Sukadeva Goswami arrives and the children in Hastinapur and other folks they didn’t know. So that time King Pariksit said also; ‘yesam samsmaranat pumsam sadyah sudhyanti vai grhahi’ (S.B 1.19.33) just like this, just like, what happens? This ‘sadyah’ means today, as adya and sadyah. Pracetas are using word ‘adya’ and King Pariksit says sadyah means today, now and here what happens? ‘suddhyanti’ there is a purification, ‘grha’ homes are purified, people in this home are purified instantly ‘yesam samsmaranat’ just by remembering you, just remembrance of you is sufficient for the purification. But ‘kim punah’ but is all good fortune, King Pariksit said, ‘kim punar darsanam’ you are giving us darshan, remembrance was enough but today we have your darshan, ‘kim punar darsanam sparsa‘. We are able to see you, we’ll be able to touch your lotus feet, ‘pada sauca’ we’ll be able to wash your lotus feet, ‘asanadibhih’ and we’ll be able to offer you exalted seat and ‘adibhih’ and that’s not all. ‘adibhih’ lots of many other things we’ll be able to offer to you, a big feast for you and when you lie on the bed, we’ll be able to massage you, do this for you, do that for you. O! how good, its good fortune of all of us assembled sages and of course myself King Pariksit. That is his mood, he has welcomed Sukadeva Goswami and he says ‘tava darsanam’ Your darsanam and not only darshan, sparsa, pada, sauca, asana adibhih, O! how fortunate I am today, King Pariksit said. So ‘darsanam’ Pracetas are talking of darshan, King Pariksit is talking of darshan ‘distya no darsanam gatah’.

So this darshan when, of course we used to have a darshan, is this darshan time? Could we go see Srila Prabhupada, is this darshan time? Yes Yes darshan time. In Bombay we were very fortunate. To be in Bombay was a great good fortune for us, we Bombay brahmacaris, this being Srila Prabhupada’s office. He spent more time in the office right? People spent lots of time in the office. So Srila Prabhupada spent lot of time in his office more than, Mayapur not as much in fact. If you go through biography, he spent little time, only doing festivals in between the festivals, hardly ever was there may be just few times. I wrote a book and did a little research about it but he spent lots of time here and Srila Prabhupada used to come all the time coming from London, coming from Los Angeles, coming from Tokyo, coming from here, coming from there and also coming- going and we used to be here. Srila Prabhupada used to be for months together in Bombay. One time he spent 3 months, 3 months and every morning there was the Bhagavatam class by Srila Prabhupada! Haribol!!. There was no need for announcement, today Bhagavatam class, no announcement (Laughter).

Srila Prabhupada was in town, every morning and classes is one of the items. Every morning, morning walk, every morning he would return from this road, this building was not there. Temple was where this tower, one of these towers, temple was right there and as Srila Prabhupada returned from the beach; one time also I was the pujari, head pujari, Prabhupada always coming on time, before time, waiting and greeting of the deities, ‘govindam adi purusam’ then asana. Srila Prabhupada used to take his asana, we used to offer him Guru Puja, not just some smaranam, not just smarana, not just remembrance, he is to be right there sitting in his asana ‘Vyas asana’. And we offering him Guru Puja and kirtans and offering him flowers and toward the end he is throwing flowers and we used to jumped to catch those flowers. And Prabhupada is signaling us, we were already dancing but he would do like this, ‘jump high, high, jump high’, we were thinner or lighter those days especially I was (laughter). So flying high was easier, now we can’t even lift our 80 or 100kgs or and then ‘jaya radha madhava kunjaihari’ his style of ‘jaya radha madhava’ and drums and then Srila Prabhupada very intensely with his eyes closed and singing ‘jaya radha madhava. And we would see sometimes the tears from his eyes gliding down and then ‘jaya om visnnupada….’ obeisances and ‘om namo bhagavate…..’ class and then during the day we would go do preaching, making life members and again we used to have darshan. Those buildings don’t exist now, now we have, heaven has cropped up or heaven has descended, they were different buildings and Prabhupada stayed in one of those buildings and then around I think 5 o’clock or so after we returned from preaching, again darshan of Srila Prabhupada on the roof top.

We used to bring some life members and friends others also, darshan on the roof and then Bhagavad Gita class everyday he used to give Bhagavad Gita class. So day in and day out, hundred times, hundred morning walks, hundred times he returned for Radha Rasabihari darshan, a hundred Guru Puja, hundred Bhagavatam classes and during the day some other interactions, more darshan and on and on and on such a great good fortune of ours to have Srila Prabhupada amongst us with us and not only we had darshan, but sparsa- the touch and ‘asana adi bhih’ and all that we had able to do. So there used to be darshan hours, O! darshan hour!

So there is a talk of darshan here, so when we go for darshan or when we have darshan of the spiritual master and of great acharyas, we have darshan of maha bhagavata darshan. Why do we call that as a darshan? Is it only we are able to see him and you take some photographs also go away, we have darshan, we captured him. Seeing, well that is one kind of darshan, it’s just limited. Meaning of that “darshan”- darshan is what he speaks, that is darshan. His speech is darshan, ‘tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya’ and then what happens, ‘upadeksyanti te jnanam jnaninas tattva darsinah’ (B.G 4.34). When we go for darshan we have audience, he speaks and he gives darshan, ‘tattva darshan’ he is ‘tattva darsinah’, he gives darshan of the Tattvas and ‘darsanam tattva’ is not different from darshan of the Lord. He gives darshan, even the ‘sad darshans’ the six schools of thoughts or philosophies, Sad Darshan they are called. Vedanta darshan and Sankya darshan different darshans not just philosophy. They are darshan, they are helping you, they are giving you darshan, ultimate darshan of the Lord. They are so transparent, transparent via medium that you look at them, you look through them and they do not stand between you and the Lord. You look at them, you hear them and you see the Lord. As they give the vision to see the Lord, so that you could have darshan of the Lord. So you are taking darshan of the spiritual master or exalted personality like Narada or Srila Prabhupada is the darshan of the Lord.

One time, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura was in Calcutta in his Gaudiya Math talking to a group of disciples. He begin the talk giving some darshan or some philosophical darshan, Tattva darshan and then one disciple, he got up he went away and he returned after some times and when he returned, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvate Thakura Maharaj inquired. ‘Oh! Where did you go?’, ‘ Guru Maharaj I went for darshan, I went for darshan’. He went into the temple room and he had come back and he thought ‘if I give this reason I had gone for darshan, ok ok thank you, good, you had gone for darshan, sit down.’ He was expecting that kind of response, ‘ My Guru Maharaj will be pleased that to know that I had gone for darshan but Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura was displeased with the disciple. “Oh! You went for darshan? And as you stood in front of the deities, you opened your eyes, right?’ yes I did, ‘and you closed your eyes’ yes I did ‘ and opened and closed’. So Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura he said, ‘ so how was your eyes exercise? (Laughter) how was your eyes exercise, you open your eyes every time, you close your eyes, so how was your eye exercise?’ and he rebuked his disciple.

‘You fool! I was giving you darshan here, right here I was arranging darshan, I was giving you eyes to see the Lord and you prefer to go away and take darshan on your own with your eyes, carma caksu, carma caksu, with eyes made up of leather, the skin. ‘cakshu dan dilo jei janme janme prabhu sei’ ‘cakshu dan’ so when there is darshan given by great personalities, Mahatmas, ‘mahatmanas tu mam partha daivim prakritim asritah’ (B.G 9.13). Those who have taken shelter of ‘daivim prakriti’. When we take darshan , they are giving us ‘drishti’, they are giving us vision to see the Lord, that way they give us darshan. That is why we say, ‘om ajnana timirandhasya jnananjana salakaya caksur unmilitam yena tasmai sri guruve namah’. What does this verse say? ‘om ajnana timirandhasya’, ‘ajnana’ again, ‘ ajnanajam tamah’ what Krsna says in the Bhagavad Gita, ‘ajnanajam tamah’ ignorance is coming from ajnana, the darkness is coming from ajnana, ignorance. So ‘timirandhasya’ – I was in total darkness, what did my spiritual master do? ‘ om ajnana timirandhasya jnananjana’, ‘ jnanajana salakaya’ – the doctor those who do operation, ‘salakaya’ take scissors, they take different instruments, ‘salakaya’ he used, ‘ jnananjana salakaya’ and ‘caksur unmilitam’, ‘caksur unmilitam’- he opened my eyes. I was totally blind, covered with ignorance and the darkness and he opened my eyes and he gave me, showed me the light of the day, light coming from Krsna, he has showed me the Lord or showed me the path, showed me the technique, the process how to see the Lord, to meet the Lord.

‘jiv jago jiv jago, gauracanda bole’, so that my jiva, my jiva, its I am jiva I am living entity not my living entity could we say? No..I cannot say my living entity, Krishna could say we are His living entity. ‘mamaivamso’ but when we talk, we cannot say my jiva, I am jiva, I am jivatma not that I have jivatma, you understand the difference? It’s not my jivatma. So ‘jiv jago jiv jago’ that song by Bhaktivinoda Thakura says, ‘jiv jago’ – wake up sleeping soul. What do we say? wake up sleeping soul and not wake up sleeping body. Body wakes up and body hungry finally. After 10 hours of sleep, when you are hungry, body wakes up, time to go to the office, body wakes up or this that or some call, someone knocking at the door. Paper! Paper! Newspaper or raddi paper and then we wake up but even after that kind of waking up, jiva- the soul keeps sleeping all day and all night. Soul never wakes up, completely covered all over.

So who wakes up the soul, we say ‘jiv jago jiv jago gauracanda bole’, now Gaurachanda has come and Gaurachandra is calling, that is why, what you should do?. ‘kota nidra jao maya pisacira kole’, that is how long I am going to sleep in the bed, but you are out of the bed, you are woken up but this call says, how long am I going to sleep in the lap of witch called Maya? . So, one gets up, gets out of the bed, you are out of the bed, you have jumped out of the bed but you continue to be still in the bed, in the lap of Maya. So ‘jiv jago’ hence O! Soul, wake up sleeping soul- wake up sleeping soul. So that waking up is done by Narada Muni, Srila Prabhupada and all the representatives of the Lord are here to wake us up all. And after we have woken up, they give us darshan, ‘ distya no darsanam gatah’ they give us darshan, they give us eyes to see, they give us Tattva Darshan so that we could see things as they are.
Now what time is it? ok…

So that’s Lord arrangement, Lord comes personally also, ‘sambhavami yuge yuge’ and then next yuga again He comes, next age and next in between what happens? He sends His devotees, He sends His representatives. And His people, they act on His behalf, they are empowered, they have Power of Attorney from the Lord and they represent Him. ‘mam ekam saranam vraja’, Lord says “surrender unto Me” and they come and what do they say? Surrender unto Krsna. Is there any difference? Prabhupada used to ask this question, ‘Is there any difference?’ Krishna says ‘mam ekam saranam vraja’- You surrender unto Krsna, surrender unto Me Krsna says and spiritual master says surrender unto Krsna, any difference? There is no difference. So this is also Bhagavad Gita As It Is.

Let Krishna speaks, you shut up, you shut up, let Krishna speaks. So this is request, they let Krsna speaks otherwise everyone is speaking, everyone is speaking, speaking, talking, talking, talk has become cheap now. The bills are much smaller now, telephone bills, the mobiles bills, what they talk is cheap and the bills also, phones are cheaper, bills are cheaper bills and talk is very very cheap talk, cheap talk. Everyone is talking, no one is hearing, everyone is talking. God has given us 2 ears and 1 mouth, should we be hearing more or talking more? 2 ears 1 mouth, hear more, talk less. Sometimes we should stop talking and listen then again of course depends whom do you talk to. Whatever little talk you talk, talk you hear that hearing, so give your ears to the Lord. In fact, this is how we take darshan. Taking darshan is not with the eyes; darshan is with the help of the ears. If you are interested in seeing or interested in darshan, you use the ears to hear, “come near- sit here- do not fear- I am here” Krsna could say. ‘abhayaya’ fearlessness; so as soon as we are with the Lord, then there is no more fear. So we take darshan of these great Personalities and we become fearless because ignorance is destroyed, driven away and Maya is replaced with Krsna. ‘nirvidya mananam akuto bhayam, icchatam akuto bhayam’, those who wish to become fearless, ‘harer namanu kirtanam’ there is some verse like that in the 2nd canto. You want to become fearless, all the sages have come to conclusion, you should chant “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare” this was conclusion 5000 years ago.

“etan nirvidyamananam icchatam akuto bhayam
yoginam nrpa nirnitam harer namanukirtanam” (S.B 2.1.11)

Sukadeva Goswami says all the sages after lot of thinking and thinking and churning, they have come to conclusion, ‘nirmitam yoginam nrpa’, O! King all the yogis have concluded, what is the conclusion? ‘harer namanukirtanam’ 5000 years ago Sukadeva Goswami said that and by doing so what happens? ‘akuto bhayam’, one becomes ‘yadi icchati’, if you are expecting, desiring fearlessness, those who wish to be fearless, anyone here wants to become fearless, interested in becoming fearless? Everyone! Everyone wants to be fearless. So the prescription here is in this age of Kali, you take shelter of the holy name. 5000 years ago it was declared by Sukadeva Goswami and he said ‘it’s not me, it’s not me, so many sages have said the same thing, I am just repeating the conclusion of the sages, thinkers’. This is the age of Kali, “harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam”, so chant Hare Krsna and be happy, don’t be afraid anymore. “mam ekam saranam vraja, aham tvam sarva pabebyo moksayisyami ma sucah”, do not fear, do not fear, Lord has guaranteed, so surrender unto Me. So in this age of Kali, Lord also appears, “kali kale nama rupe krsna avatara”. Lord takes His avatara in the form of Harinaam. Harinaam is avatara, Harinaam prabhu, ‘namasraya kori jatane tumi thakaha apana kaje’ and taking shelter of the holy name.
On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Krsna said, surrender unto Me and in the age of Kali there is surrendering unto the holy name of the Lord, ‘namasraya kori’ take the ‘asraya’ shelter of the holy name. So is this contradictor or there is some connection between Krsna speaking on the battlefield? And asking of surrender unto Me, surrender unto Me and you are also supposed to be surrendering unto the holy name. So is that Krsna and the holy name, are they two different things, two different Personalities? Same! ‘abhinatva nama namino’ ‘abhina’ not different. That Lord Sri Krsna who appeared 5000 years ago, spoke Bhagavad Gita has now appeared as the holy name.
So we hear we hear we hear the sound ‘sabdh, sabdh brahma’ and from the sound, our philosophy from sound comes the form. From sound comes the form, so from Hare Krsna Hare Krsna sound comes the form or again comes or not comes, sound is the form. It is a little spiritual technology here, sound is the form and this Hare Krsna is the Lord. Or as we chant chant chant but not only chant, what else we have to do? Hear and hear and hear. What happens if it is done properly? ‘sravanam kirtanam smaranam’ and then more things. You could do ‘smarana’ remembrance, remembrance of what? remembrance of the form of the Lord, remembrance of the qualities of the Lord, the pastimes of the Lord, abode of the Lord; all that we are reminded of as we chant the holy name of the Lord. As so the process is supposed to be very easy and very sweet and all that, so we get this darshan.

Narada Muni in fact, he wanted to take darshan of Brahma at the beginning of the age of Kali and after he had darshan. Narada Muni had darshan of Brahma and Narada Muni inquired, ‘now, now this is a new age, what is the process for this age?’ O! Chant the Holy name, chanting the Holy name, Harinaam. ‘could you be more specific? There are so many names, there also Visnu Sahasranaam, thousand names, could you say which name?’ and Brahma gave darshan. He gave Tattva darshan, he made this point; Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

“iti sodasakam namnam kali kalmasa nasanam,
natah parataro payah sarva vedesu drisyate”
(2nd verse Kali Santarana Upanisad)

This is Brahma speaking from the sky, ‘you know dear disciple, dear child’ Narada Muni is son of Brahma, Narada Muni is disciple of Brahma so he is addressing, “my dear child, my dear disciple, I want to tell you that in this age of Kali, this Hare Krsna mahamantra, ‘iti sodasakam namnam kali kalmasa nasanam, kali kalmasa nasanam’, all the flaws, all the faults are destroyed, ‘kali kalmasa, natahparataro, sarva vedesu’ I am the knower of the Vedas” Brahma says, You know I am not just any Tom Dick and Harry as they say, I am somebody, who am I? “Tene brahma hrda adi-kavaye” I am the adi kavi, I am the first one to hear the Vedas. There was a time there was just Lord and myself, only two of us in the entire universe. Only two persons and that time. Lord spoke to me, He revealed all the knowledge of the Vedas, essence of the Vedas was revealed unto me and that person is talking to you, you understand? And this is what I have to say, the knower of the Vedas. This is what I have to say that ‘natah parataro’, ‘paratara’ means better, upaya- solution, ‘sarva vedesu’ in all the Vedas, ‘drisyate’ as far as I could see, I could understand, there is nothing but the chanting of the holy name and he specified which name to be chanted, Hare krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

So let us all chant, take the shelter of the holy name and be happy and be fearless. We just have to do this chanting properly, if we just do this chanting properly. The goal is darshan of the Lord, Goal is darshan of the Lord, the goal is to have audience of the Lord, the goal is as once Srila Prabhupada said or wrote that the goal is to join the dancing party of Radha and Krsna. So try to achieve that goal, the means is there to achieve the goal. You have a means and the right means; sadhan and sadhya, sadhya is joining dancing party and sadhan is ‘ harer namaiva kevalam’. So just do the sadhan properly, then don’t worry if you are on the right path, doing the right things, right mantra, right darshan, Tattva darshan, everything just right, right means then we will achieve the goal. If you are sitting on the right train (Laughter) and if you want to go to Chennai but you sitting in train going to Kolkatta, will you go to Chennai? Did you understand? So if you are sitting on the right train, right mudra, right everything is right, the means is right then the goal is achieved.

The chanting of Hare Krishna has to be done attentively. You hear about that? How should the chanting be? Attentive chanting, attentive chanting, attention. Not being attentive, so after 10 offences we say, those who wish to achieve the goal of this human form of life, which is? Krsna prema, goal is Krsna prema. Those who wish to achieve that goal, what do they have to do? Chant attentively; hear the holy name attentively avoiding all the offences against the holy name. And Bhaktivinoda Thakura says that we continue to commit 10 offences if our hearing is inattentive. If we are not chanting with full attention, then you are bound to commit offences. So this is the most serious offence. Avoiding this, avoiding that but attentive chanting is not done, attentive chanting does not happen then we’ll continue the breeding round, the inattentive chanting becomes the breeding ground for the offences.Well this is not the time for Japa Reform Seminar or Japa Retreat; you should attend around the world, now devotees are going through this Japa Retreats, Japa reforms seminars.

So attentive chanting, ‘ Harinaam Chintamani’ by Bhaktivinoda Thakura, there comes the topic of discussion, Inattentive chanting. I won’t give the whole seminar but there is one thing that I will, I will like to share which I have learnt from one of the seminar or that while we are chanting our japa, “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”. In order to have our chanting with full attention or attentive chanting, something else is on our mind, in our thought has to be got rid of or drive away, stop that so that we could end up hearing. We chant, that happens very very well uttering the name, then it just bounces off our mind. You throw the ball and then the ball does not go in or stick to the wall, what happen, the ball just bounces back, the ball. So lot of times that happens, we chant “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna” but it just bounces back because we are not free to hear, we are busy.

Another thing came as soon as I said busy, This is when I was a new devotee myself and in old temple, this is very small temple now, our President Giriraj dasa brahmacari, that time Maharaj he was brahmacari, he was chanting and some big life member had come to see him and I found out that someone wanted to meet Giriraj prabhu that time our President, so I went. He was chanting in the temple and I mentioned to him that such and such life member want to see you and his response was, ‘tell him that I am busy’. And my thought was what! You are not busy (Laughter), you are just sitting and only chanting, you are not busy!(Laughter). This was my mind talking inside; I didn’t speak out (Laughter). I didn’t dare to speak to my President like that, you are not busy. That I was thinking, you are not busy, what excuse just because you don’t want to see that person, you are coming up with the excuse you are busy.

But much later, I didn’t know when, took quite some time for me to realize that this chanting is supposed to be a business not in a mundane sense business. It is a serious thing, you are preoccupied, you are busy with something, you are busy with chanting and of course we say, chanting is a time when you have appointment with the Lord. Chanting is a time when your appointment is with who? With Krishna, your appointment is with the Lord. So that you meeting Him, having some dialogues with Him, isn’t that a business, a serious thing?

So anyways, we have to realize this chanting of Hare krsna is, is serious thing and we should be only chanting while chanting and we do also. We don’t do lots of things during chanting and we sit and chant and even if we are doing that, we still may not be, we still may be busy inside. We are not talking with others, not on mobile, not doing this that, not busy in that sense but even sitting and chanting but still we are too busy, too busy to hear the holy name. We have no time, we are busy. Japa mala is making rounds, one round, two rounds or mind is making rounds around the world million dollars, go round around the world, around the home or around the man, around the woman, around around the car or mind is making rounds of the car, doing pradakshana of the car that we have just purchased this or that or…And we are just not free.

Let chanting go on, round is going on just outside but it is not entering us. It is not touching our souls or soul is not hearing, ‘jiv jago’ the soul has to wake up, soul has to hear. But there is something else between the chanting which is the holy name, which is the Lord. Hare Krsna is the Lord and the soul is the recipient of that mercy, the target of the chanting is, the chanting should reach the soul but then what happens? In the middle there is the mind like the stumbling block.

mana eva manusyanam karanam bandha moksayoh’

Mind could become the cause of bandhan or moksa, this is the verdict of the sastra. The mind could become the cause of bondage or liberation. So what is, where is the mind, what is the mind doing during chanting. This mind is also part of the process of hearing and chanting or mind is having some wanderings and thoughts, some kalpa vikalpa and accepts this and rejects that.

So anyways, here is what I had heard during, Mahanidhi Maharaj in fact in his seminar, he was talking that when we go to shopping mall or some shopping center. Usually, there is music, they play music and it is called ‘mood music’, mood music to get into the mood, mood music. So that is in the background the music is on and lots of people are talking, buying, shopping and they are also hearing that music and getting into the mood of what they, they have to do their shopping there. So he was pointing that two things are happening simultaneously. The mood music is going on and something else is also going on. So while we are chanting, the mind’s mood music is on and it just doesn’t allow you to hear this music of the chanting music “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”.

It just doesn’t penetrate, this does not go in there and that music goes on and on and on. So chanting and hearing that chanting and then remembrance and the whole guidelines what thoughts you should have during chanting the holy names. So attentive chanting, attentively hearing the Holy name, each word, each mantra. Our other Japa Reform Party or person says, hear the whole mantra, one mantra at a time. Bhurijana prabhu talks, hear the mantra from beginning to end, the 16 words make sure you are chanting 16 words first of all. Make sure your mantra is not 14 word mantra or 12 word mantra or not just snik snik Hare Hare. Prabhupada says snik nik Hare Hare snik snik Hare Hare. That’s all you hear snik snik Hare Hare snik snik Hare Hare. So then you go to some snik loka (Laughter).

So be fully alert, opening of the mouth and tongue vibrating, ears are hearing, get out all the stumbling blocks, clear the mind, get all the thoughts out, ‘yato yato niscalati, tatah tatah’ (B.G 6.26) wherever the mind goes, from there you drag the mind and fix that on the holy name wherever it goes. Don’t follow the mind, drag it back. When it is going to Krishna, don’t stop, don’t drag it back but elsewhere it is going, bring it back. So chanting is not the time that you are just sitting around, within the time our body, our mind, our intelligence, our soul, everything absorbed everything busy. ‘sumedasah’ this process of chanting will be glorified or the Lord will be glorified in the form of His holy names, which kind of people will glorify or worship the Lord in the form of His holy name? ‘sumedasah’- intelligent. So sharp intelligence being very alert, keeping watch on the movements of the mind.

Ok I’ll stop here. So just some homework for you, all of us.
Grantharaj Srimad Bhagavatam ki jai!!

The spirit of enjoying binds us to this material world

Dated: 10/ 10/ 2010
Venue: ISKCON Vrndavana

Hare Krsna! Thank you for being with us, this morning as we read from Srimad-Bhagavatam, from canto 4, chapter 25th, text number 15th.

“nila-sphatika-vaidurya- mukta-marakatarunaih
klpta-harmya-sthalim diptam sriya bhogavatim iva” (SB 4.25.15)

Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada KI… Jai!

The floors of the houses in that city were made of sapphire, crystal, diamonds, pearls, emeralds and rubies. Because of the luster of the houses in the capital; the city was compared to the celestial town named Bhogavati.

Purport:

In the city of the body, the heart is considered to be the capital. Just as the capital of a state is especially gorgeously filled with various high buildings and lustrous palaces, the heart of the body is filled with various desires and plans for material enjoyment. Such plans are sometimes compared to valuable jewels such as sapphires, rubies, pearls and emeralds. The heart becomes the center for all planning for material enjoyment.

“nila-sphatika-vaidurya- mukta-marakatarunaih
klpta-harmya-sthalim diptam sriya bhogavatim iva”

The floors of the houses in that city were made of sapphire, crystal, diamonds, pearls, emeralds and rubies. Because of the luster of the houses in the capital, the city was compared to the celestial town named Bhogavati.
This is Vrndavana, I was expecting some pastime that we talk about and anyway we always have freedom, at some point. The characteristics of King Puranjana is the chapter, is the theme, Puranjana. So you have been reading through, hearing this nityam bhagavata-sevaya (SB 1.2.18) as part of the Sadhana given to us by Srila Prabhupada. Hearing Narada Muni, is Narada Muni speaking? And he is talking to, king Pracinabarhisat and when talking to that king, he is narrating, there is narration about another king. He started his narration saying “asit puranjano nama raja” (SB 4.25.10), there was a king called Puranjana and he had a friend, this is also mentioned. “avijnata sakha asit! raja asit” avijnata sakha ca asit, they are both there. There was a king, called Puranjana and his friend called avijnata sakha! Or this king did not know that he also had a friend and avijnata-cestitah, neither he knew what were the activities of his unknown friend because he was just a Puranjana, pura meaning city, Nagpur and Jagannatha pur or puri.

So Puranjana, Jana means person, person residing in pura or person residing in the city and that is the living entity that resides in all the cities which are bodies. So hence, Narada Muni is talking in fact, all of us, all, everybody, all of you are devotees or maybe you are not Puranjanas (laughing). But everybody is a Puranjana. So that everybody is residing in the Puri. “nava-dvare pure dehi” (BG 5.13) this is Lord Sri Krsna’s words from Bhagavad Gita, “nava-dvare pure dehi” which has nine gates. So living entity that resides in the body and that is his, that is his town, that is his city or that city itself could be a capital or Oh! That’s the HEART of the town! They say, THAT IS THE HEART OF THE TOWN, down town, city center. So this body is the city and center of this body is what? – Heart! And, about that heart, we are hearing about that, that heart. The city of the body, the heart is considered to be the capital, in the city of the body, in the city of the body Prabhupada writes, the heart is considered to be the capital and the capitals are normally very very opulent. Krsna – Balarama ki… JAI!

Specially capital, rest of the country may be underdeveloped but every country makes sure as we go around the world we see, the capital city, that country invest all the wealth, make a show piece when others come that they will be impressed with their country. They might not see the countryside they just would end up seeing the city so they make sure, that capital city is lustrous, dazzling, Shining and glittering and Slick.

So, likewise the city the heart here, compared to the valuables- nila- sapphires, crystals and diamonds and pearls and emeralds and rubies, the whole heart is bedecked with all these valuable gems and all those valuable gems and rubies are considered, considered his different items for enjoyment. His plans for his enjoyment. “klpta-harmya-sthalim diptam” – so the floors of the places are lustrous and the sriya, the opulence of this city could only be compared with Bhogavati! – bhogavatim iva. Bhogavati is yet anothe very very opulent township. You will find that in lower planetary system. That is the capital; that is also capital. That is the capital of the Nagas. Nagas have naga – loka, because it is in lower planetary system, there is a description that the sunrays do not reach in that region. But no problem, there are Nagas with the diamonds and rubies on their hoods and they are all shining and dazzling. So there is a light all over and that capital is very very opulent. This is Bhogavati! In Bhagavatam this Bhogavati is compared, when they describe the INDRAPRASTHA! That was like a Bhogavati or that DWARKA, Oh! that was like a Bhogavati, capital of the Nagas. So now the, our heart which is capital, compared with the capital of the body and that is compared with the Bhogavati also.

Such plans, Srila Prabhupada writes, the heart of that body is filled with the various desires and plans for material enjoyment. Such plans are sometimes compared with the valuable jewels as sapphires all that. The heart becomes the center of all planning for material enjoyment. So heart is important, isn’t it? In the whole body, we give lot of importance to the heart. Oh! That’s Heart! Within the core of my Heart, this is so dear to my Heart! Or sometimes devotees will say “I LOST MY HEART IN VRINDAVAN!” They do not say (jokingly) I lost my leg in Vrndavana (laughters), I lost my finger or I lost some hair or I lost my head or I won’t even go back, I lost my heart, so dear to my HEART. So nothing seems to be as important in the body as, as what? As the heart! If everything stops, some other items or parts of the body stop we could carry on but if the heart stops; everything stops. And of course spiritually speaking, the heart is, heart is the seat! That’s where we reside. Where do we stay? Us as the souls, we stay in the heart. That’s the base of the soul. Soul is based in the body. Ah, based in the heart! Here is the soul and next to the soul is? Super-soul also and that is avijnata sakha. There is, the super-soul is avijnata sakha, not known to the living entity although he is the closest neighbor and the best friend also, sakha but soul does not know that his friend is just around the corner, not even, he is just there! So forgetting that sakha, “suhrdam sarva-bhutanam” (BG 5.29), he gets into the spirit of enjoyment and then he is bound to this world, well, he is bound to this body and then the body it becomes part of the world, he is bound to the world. How is he bound? For binding you need some, how do you bind something? With the ropes! Very good. So, there are ropes, we are bound with the ropes and those ropes are called hrdaya granthi, hrdaya.
Again we want to use this to carry on with this theme heart and the capital. Hrdaya! and Hrdaya, in the Hrdaya there are hrdya granthis, there are bonds, there are Knots! Ropes, the ropes are binding. Well, two things are bound here. This knot is binding body with the soul, matter with the spirit and in the conditioned state, he cannot figure it out which is which, what is what, who is who! “yasyatma-buddhih kunape tri-dhatuke” (SB 10.84.13). yasyatma-buddhih- because he is bound, he cannot figure it out, uhm. yasyatma-buddhih- because he is bound he cannot figure it out, yasyatma-buddhih-he thinks body is myself, he forgets the soul and forgets the super-soul. Of course he has already forgotten and doesn’t even know who he is and he is completely bound. Because of his Hrdaya granthis, Hrdaya granthis also have there are “samsaya-granthis” (SB 11.24.29) another name given to these granthi, these bondages and these knots- samsaya-granthis! – Doubting, doubtfulness, the conditioned soul is always doubting.

As a result what happens? Krsna says in Bhagavad Gita again- “samsayatma? Samsayatma vinasyati, Samsayatma vinasyati! – One who doubts, is Doomed! Vinasa- destroyed. So hrdaya granthis have some samsaya granthis. There are always doubts and always questions and no faith and no shraddha and he is always doubting. Hrdaya granthi, samsaya- granthi, there are Karma granthis, as the result from karma, Karmas are binding. Karma granthis are there, Karmas are binding. Soul is bound up; soul is bewildered because of samsayas.

And all this is because of his spirit of enjoyment, he wants to enjoy, wants to enjoy. Srila Prabhupada in one of his purport says- the soul in the body, this Puranjana is like a king. He is free, to do anything and everything to enjoy. Let’s enjoy! Want to enjoy! He is free so he is also, that’s the reason or another reason why he is called King! He is king of the body! This is all given to use, all yours and material nature gives ok here it is! Take it! It’s for you! And once he has it, then he is the king of the body. He is a master; he makes a master plan and “OH! I have conquered that enemy. And I will conquer him also! Oh! I have acquired this much wealth today and tomorrow I have this strategy to make MORE money!” And once I have money what do I do? “diva carthehaya rajan, kutumba-bharanena va” (SB 2.1.3)

As soon as sun rises in the east during day time, Divaca Artha, where is money, where is money, where is money? ‘divaca arthe haya rajan’ and then money for what?- ‘kutumba-bharanena va’- for maintenance, enjoyment of the family in his kingdom now he is not alone but he has some, some soldiers. In the words of Sukadeva Goswami –“ dehapatya-kalatradisv, atma-sainyesv asatsv api” (SB2.1.4) he has some little, little army around him. He had a body then Deha, apatya- children and Kalatra- wife, adisu and so, that capital has some citizens. Beginning with, of course the words of Rsabhadeva “pumsah striya mithuni-bhavam etam” (SB 5.5.8)- this where the crux of the matter is THIS- pumsah- of the humans or male then, striyah- the woman, mithuni-bhavam, mithuni bhava, maithun, this, the sex in the center and that bhava. Not Madhurya bhava or Sakhya bhava, Dasya bhava there are so many kinds of bhava as at here in Vrndavana is full of bhava, Vrndavana is full of mellows and rasas because of rasa-raja Sri Krsna ki… Jai!

Rasa-raja Sri Krsna, reservoir of all pleasures and his different rasas, Madhurya rasa, that’s the topmost rasa and vatsalya rasa in Vrndavana, Sakhya rasa- so many sakhas and hardly any friend no, Dasya rasa is not in Vrndavana. Some his friends may be carrying, I carry your lunch packet. He is a friend but he is carrying lunch packet, so he is predominantly friend but he also plays a role of being a servant. In Vrndavana, Madhurya rasa as the number one dominating “parakiya-bhave jaha brajete pracar” there is vatsalya and there is Sakhya, lots of Sakhya bhava. So this world is a reflection, oh! Not this, not Vrndavan, I forgot that I was in Vrndavana this world is different. I was just now in Delhi, so I thought, thinking ‘This’ world is, that Delhi world or the rest of the world is reflection of THIS world. So this bhava here, reflection of that bhava is the material world. The topmost bhava, topmost rasa in Vrndavana is Madhurya rasa, Sringar rasa, conjugal loving dealings of Radha and Krsna, Gopi and Krsna. So what is the topmost in the spiritual sky appears in the material world as the lowest thing. Well ‘sastra-caksusa’ (SB10.84.36) – point of view or Krishna, a devotee, vaisnava point of view, that is the lowest, of course! For the materialist that is the topmost. The topmost pleasure is the, this mithuni bhava “pumsah striya mithuni-bhavam etam” Maithun bhava. So “tayor mitho hrdaya-granthim ahuh” (SB 5.5.8). So when man and woman they get together, what happens? Well, their contact, their interactions the hrdaya granthis they come into existence. The knot after knot after knot after knot, they are bound.

The farmers in the villages they get animals to go around, in the middle they have a stick or a pole and there is a rope and some cows or bulls are tied they keep going round and round you can imagine, some of you must have experienced, I have experienced in my village. So all day, almost all day the, the animals are going round and round and round they are walking, they are going but they are not going away, they just go around that, the pole in the middle. So like that the person bound to “pumsah striya mithuni-bhavam etam” the house is in the center, and who is in the center of the house? – Woman is in the, the center of the center. And then Rsabhadeva says grha- the house, the ksetra or maybe there is some more land, property, grha ksetra and suta- the sons, children, apta- relatives, vittaih- the wealth and bank balances. “moho yam” (SB 5.5.8). And this creates whole big illusion, these are the items for enjoyment, starting with grha ksetra, woman, wife, children, and we need vittaih, wealth, money.

So they gather all this and they try to enjoy and every time they try to enjoy, what happens? They are bound. And they are more ‘hrdaya granthis’ every endeavor they make, they think I will get out of this! Get out of, but another attempt they make they get more entangled and the knots become tighter and tighter. This reminded me of, again going back to the village scene or the countryside, there are great gardens and the foxes always come, they like the grapes. So, smart farmers what they do with the atta, (speaking Hindi-kya kehte hein usko?) the, the, when it is made wet before chapatti, you make chapatti? Dough! Dough! (Laughing). I never gone to the kitchen, I don’t know this! I only eat chapattis. I don’t know what happens before that (jokingly). So dough! So they, they take a big pot and the pot is filled with the dough which is sticky as you know. And that whole thing is kept at the entrance of the, the grape garden from where the foxes go in and out. And they spoil all the garden, they eat something, they spoil lots of grapes. So to protect the garden, the farmer does this- puts this, the dough in a pot so as foxes going, trying to go in, one of his hind leg gets stuck into the dough, in the dough. The fox seeing- “OH! No problem! Only one hind leg is in the dough! What I am going to do now is! The another hind leg which is free, I am going to push little bit, just little bit and get this hind leg out. And as he makes his attempt, the other leg also gets stuck. Then OH… NO PROBLEM, my fore legs are free! I had just used one leg now I am going to use both the, the front legs and I will push little bit and get these both legs, hind legs out and I’LL BE FREE and in the garden, enjoying the grapes. As he tries to push his, the front fore limbs, into the dough, sticky dough, immediately he is stuck! He couldn’t get the hind legs out. All his four legs are into the dough, he is stuck! But he thinks, there is always ray of hope. He says No Problem! , my whole mouth is all free. My head is free, I am going to push little bit with the head and get all four legs out and I will be in the garden! As he makes this attempt his whole head is stuck, his all four legs are stuck, he make, begins making the noises. The farmer comes to know. He comes with a stick and beats him to death of half killed and ok GO!

So this is something like this happens as one tries to make attempts, oh! I am in trouble but I have this plan, this scheme, I will get out of this. But as he makes attempt, that fails and his, his hrdaya granthis are, he is bound more with the samsaya-granthis and then, the karma granthis, more and more karma is created and he is bound more and more. Of course, the advice is that, “bhidyate hrdaya-granthis” (SB 1.2.21) In the very beginning Suta Goswami’s advice is “bhidyate hrdaya-granthis” – all the hrdaya granthis, all thebondages, the knots, should be pierced, cut… “bhidyate hrdaya-granthis chidyante sarva-samsayah” All the knots of the doubtfulness, doubting! Bonds caused by the hmmm, doubts. Chidyante! Cut that into pieces! So “bhidyate hrdaya-granthis chidyante sarva-samsayah ksiyante casya karmani” And you eradicate! You eradicate! All the karmas, they are sticking. They are binding, they sticking to the consciousness. There are beejas and this and that, there are different phases, stages, kuta, prabdha. So ERADICATION! “ksiyante casya karmani” ksiyante, ksaya means ksaya is also one disease called tuberculosis TB! TB! It’s called ksaya, TB! Tuberculosis. Person, who is healthy gradually, gradually diminishes in his size and then you know he has ksaya roga and finally only bones and the skin.

So ksaya means diminishing like that- smaller and smaller, smaller. So there is a big heap of the karmas. ksiyante means minimizing, diminishing, diminishing, diminishing. Diksa! That is also the explanation of di, Diksa. ksaya, there is the Spiritual Master gives “dadati jnanam” he gives jnana! And that jnana does the ksaya of the karmas. Karmas are exhausted; karmas are eradicated by the knowledge delivered by the Spiritual Master.

“jnanagnih sarva-karmani bhasma-sat kurute tatha” (BG 4.37)
. Lord said in Bhagavad Gita- jnanagnih -Jnana! The knowledge has the fiery thing! So what does that do? jnanagnih! The fire of the knowledge, “bhasma-sat kurute tatha”! sarva-karmani- all the karmas are? Destroyed, BURNED to the ashes. That’s the power of knowledge. Or it is said- you take a sword of knowledge, armed with yoga, armed with the knowledge then you cut. sarva-samsayah- all the doubts, the bonds, those bonds you cut. Karma! Karma granthi you cut, cut, cut! Those who are knowledgeable, they use the knowledge to cut these granthis, cut these bonds. Different kinds of bonds that we talked about- hrdaya granthi, samsaya granthi, karma granthis are cut, burnt! ksaya, exhausted, eradicated. And as finally comes to know after many trials and errors of trying to enjoy. Kathopanisad explains- there is a tree, on the tree there are two birds, one is atma, the conditioned- illusioned soul is trying to enjoy! He has so many plans. Sometimes he enjoys of some good karma or punya karma, he goes to heaven, enjoys and then there is the suffering. He goes between these two, two states, two seasons. Sukha- duhkha season. Sukha season, duhkha season. “agamapayino nityas tams titiksasva” (BG 2.14), of course Lord’s advice is – try to tolerate. So he goes through happiness, sometimes distress sometime. But the other Bird! He is saksi. “saksi ca, anumanta ca” he is anumanta, he is only witness, he doesn’t indulge in, in enjoying this world.

So he is sometimes HEY! That bird is always, happy or fixed. There are no ups and downs for him. Who is he? Could I also, attain such a state? Could I get out of this “dvandva-mohena bharata; iccha-dvesa-samutthena” (BG 7.27) iccha- desires and dvesa- hatred and the illusion and the dvandva of this world? Could I transcend? Could I also? Some thoughts like this and anyway! Then he turns to Him, begins to listen to the, the Lord in the heart. In the same heart, Lord sitting is the ‘avijnata sakha’ “mattah smrtir jnanam apohanam ca” (BG15.15). He was provided with lots of forgetfulness and then as, he comes to, begins gradually coming to the senses, the conditioned soul, paying attention to the super-soul, then he begins getting the knowledge and remembrance. And, then he comes in contact with Vaisnavas, then he gets his Bhakti. Bhakti comes from Bhaktas, bhaktas give him Bhakti finally. And he, then he gets some mantra. “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare! Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare!”

And that, that mantra, listen to this. Not that you were not listening, but, this must be something important so, attention! Savadhan! The Mantra acts like a, like a bow and that then Soul is the arrow. The soul is the arrow! The bow and arrow, bow is the mantra; soul is arrow, an arrow. foooo!!! (Making sound). Next thing is you shoot and what’s the target? – Supreme Personality of Godhead! His Lotus Feet, His devotional Services is the destination, TARGET of that arrow! So the piercing, the hrdaya granthis and all, all cut to pieces. When Mantra is USED! , then the soul gets the BOOST! Psheeeww!! (Making sound). Something is pushing him out of the situation that he is stuck into. So when mantra gives big boost to him, then, that arrow, the soul ends up at the Lotus feet of, of the Lord Sri Krishna- Balarama, Radha- Syamsundara, Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai.
And he is out, his enjoying spirit, finished; it has come to an end. He is not bound anymore. He is out of his own Kingdom, he is not a king anymore as he was thinking- “I am Puranjana, I AM… all in all! I am this, I am this, I am the enjoyer and this, all that, he is free from, he is, now at the, Feet of the Lord and he is in another Kingdom where Krsna is the King or Krsna is King in Dwarka. Where Radharani is the Queen! Someone said this is… Vrndavana is not Kingdom, Vrndavana is not Kingdom, Vrndavana is Queendom! Kingdom, Dwarka is Kingdom of Dwarkadhish but Vrndavana is a Queendom, Queendom and this is ‘tapta-kancana-gaurangi – Radhe vrndavanesvari vrsabhanu-sute devi pranamami hari-priye”. And then, the soul is properly situated. And that’s the, that’s the goal, that’s the perfection of life and, and that world is… that capital of Krsna or Radharani has original, spiritual sapphires and

“cintamani-prakara-sadmasu kalpa-vrksa- laksavrtesu surabhir abhipalayantam, laksmi-sahasra-sata-sambhrama-sevyamanam” (Bs 5.29)

All these wealth, all these sapphires, sphatika, vaidurya, mukta and marakata, Arunaih, Vrndavana is land of Laksmis, not just one Laksmi. In Vaikuntha only one Laksmi, Narayana has only one Laksmi. But Vrndavana has? “sahasra-sata-sambhrama-sevyamanam” So many Laksmis. There is so much, how much wealth? Very very RICH land is Vrndavan, even the steps of the kundas, the ghatas- there is no stone, there is no cement (laughing), no dirt all Jewels! Even for construction (laughing) even for construction they use such a material, then what to speak of the palaces, there is so much wealth in this, in this land of Sri krishna and Balarama and. So there is no loss, there IS NO LOSS! As we heard, you know- a few of your family, were you lost? Few brothers, sisters? So called lost, but you get so many more brothers and sisters, what is the loss? Maybe you left one mother behind, you got so many Mothers, you left some wealth behind, oh what’s the loss? Krishna is your Father that becomes your Father’s property. Lot of people say “Is that your father’s property? Is that your father’s property? What do you think; this is your father’s property?” We could say yes! Yes! My Father’s property. Who is my Father? If Krsna is my Father, then? – All property is my property also. My father’s property! But I want to be a good son that is why I will take only how much? – “tena tyaktena bhunjitha” (Isopanishad 1st slok). Only as much as I need I will take, I want to be good son as Jesus was a good Son of the Lord and so I want to be a Good son. Otherwise whole property belongs to me, belongs to my Father but I have so many brothers and sisters, so I will take only as much as I need!

So there is no loss, coming to Krishna, so the scriptures advertise, Srimad-Bhagavatam advertising the spiritual sky. There is always advertisement- go to, GO TO KATMANDU! And you, you go to Katmandu and then GO TO PARIS! They always advertise, there is something here or something there. And people just begin, they go round and round. Wherever you go, they say- you go elsewhere or you go elsewhere! So there is promotion and advertisement and commercials to buy this, go here, go there

The scriptures are also advertising Vrndavana… Krsna. Go to Him, GO TO HIM! GO to Him. He is this, He is that. No false promises, all reality, all factual! “sreyah-kairava-candrika-vitaranam” (CC Antya 20.12) for your good fortune- “sreyah-kairava-candrika-vitaranam param vijayate sri krsna sankirtanam” as one gets involved with the sankirtana movement, then that sankirtana, that Holy Name, that Lord, from Him comes the, MOON BEAMS come. And then what happens? -The kairava, the Lotus begins blooming! And what is that Lotus? – That is sreyah or good fortune. The good fortune Lotus begins blooming with the beams of candrika of the beams of Krsna Consciousness, beams of the Holy, holy spiritual beams, rays, rays of hope and good fortune and all like BLOOMS! So… ok, so I think we, made few points, I tried to say… few words, any questions? … Comments?

Haribol!
Grantha-raja Srimad-Bhagavatam KI! Jai! Sri Krsna- Balarama ki, Jai, Srila
Prabhupada ki ……..Jai,
Gaura premananden Hari- Hari Bol!

Becoming meek and humble is outcome of advancement in Krishna Consciousness

“iti bruvanam nrpatim gayaka muni-coditah

tustuvus tusta-manasas tad-vag-amrta-sevaya” (S.B 4.16.1)

Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada.

Translation:
The great sage Maitreya continued: While King Prthu thus spoke; the humility of his nectarean speeches pleased the reciters very much. Then again they continued to praise the King highly with exalted prayers, as they had been instructed by the great sages.

Purport:
Here the word muni-coditah indicates instructions received from great sages and saintly persons. Although Maharaja Prthu was simply enthroned on the royal seat and was not at that time exhibiting his godly powers, the reciters like the suta, the Magadha and the vandi understood that King Prthu was an incarnation of God. They could understand this by the instructions given by the great sages and learned brahmanas. We have to understand the incarnations of God by the instructions of authorized persons. We cannot manufacture a God by our own concoctions. As stated by Narottama dasa Thakura, sadhu-sastra-guru: one has to test all spiritual matters according to the instructions of saintly persons, scriptures and the spiritual master. The spiritual master is one who follows the instructions of his predecessors, namely the sadhus, or saintly persons.

A bona fide spiritual master does not mention anything not mentioned in the authorized scriptures. Ordinary people have to follow the instructions of sadhu, sastra and guru. Those statements made in the sastras and those made but the bona fide sadhu or guru cannot differ from one another.

Reciters like the suta and the Magadha were confidentially aware that King Prthu was an incarnation of the Personality of Godhead. Although the King denied such praise because he was not at that time exhibiting his godly qualities, the reciters did not stop praising him. Rather, they were very pleased with the King, who, although actually an incarnation of God, was so humble and delightful in his dealings with devotees. In this connection we may note that previously (4.15.21) it was mentioned that King Prthu was smiling and was in a pleasant mood while speaking to the reciters. Thus we have to learn from the Lord or His incarnation how to become gentle and humble. The King’s behavior was very pleasing to the reciters, and consequently the reciters continued their praise and even foretold the King’s future activities, as they had been instructed by the sadhus and sages.

“Praise of King Prthu by the Professional Reciters” this is the name of the chapter. Prthu, what is he known for? the nine processes of devotional service, then for each process there is one devotee who kind of stands out, he is remembered immediately as soon as we say for instance, we say,

“Sravanam”- then which devotee we remember- Parikshit Maharaja.

“Kirtana”- , Sukadeva Goswami,
“Smaranam”- Prahlada Maharaja.

There are other names also who could be said also, some kind of established understanding that these devotees. Then when we come for

“archanam”- Prthu, Prthu Maharaja.

Prthu Maharaja is the topic, he is being praised, King Prthu’s appearance, that the subject matter and after he has appeared and after he has been enthroned, he is being praised by the reciters and he says, ‘no, no, no no, no, not yet, not yet, don’t praise me, I am not praiseworthy yet’ and he said he is a newcomer, ‘I have not manifested all those qualities and ‘maybe you are giving me some more….’. He is thinking like that, O! reciters, you are praising me, maybe this is your expectations, I understand, but I haven’t achieved that evolution or level of qualities and but I understand, this is what you expect but I should not be praised the way you are doing now.

He is incarnation, one of the avataras, saktyavesa avatar of the Lord and hearing these words from him, is quite humbling experience. He has those qualities and he is claiming no.. no.. no.. no I don’t have these qualities. On the contrary, we normally fight, no, no, no I have that quality, no, no, I have more than what you have said. When someone praises us, then we say, Oh! Finally someone has realized that how advanced I am, atleast someone is understanding my advanced stage. So, we fight the other way. We are not yet there, but we say, no, no, we have more than what you think. And Prthu Maharaja says no no, no I am not that, this is too much; wait wait maybe after 10, 20 years could come back and praise me the way you are doing now but right now I am not that….. So, Srila Prabhupada is pointing out this as “humility”. Although actually an incarnation of God, Prthu Maharaja is, he was so humble and delightful in dealing with theses devotees, thus, we have to learn, so some conclusion or some lesson Prabhupada is pointing out. If Prthu Maharaja could be that humble, he does not have to be humble. So, take a lesson and thus we have to learn from the Lord or His incarnation how to become gentle and humble; and the King’s behavior was very pleasing to the reciters.

So, this is a natural consequence of the advancement in Krishna consciousness. What is the consequence? That one becomes meek and humble, he takes humble position which is not a false, genuine humility exists and by cultivation of Krsna consciousness, one realizes how insignificant, tiny person he is. He is not the center of the universe or he is not all in all or he is not the Lord of all. Then this is also when a person is knowledgeable, so this knowledge infact. I am just this part and parcel tiny, just a speck, just a dust, this is knowledge; to know as we are.

Knowledge is to know as we are, to know our position as humble servant, this is knowledge, to know things as they are. That’s knowledge, there is nothing, no exaggeration, no demolition even no plus or minus, as it is, that’s knowledge. So we are somebody in relationship with Krsna, we have some value, but we still are, the fact is we are just tiny living entities and the point is, we are not the only one here in this world. Like us, like you and me, there are billions of personalities and they also have to be accommodated and they also have position, humble position of being servant of the Lord and the servant of the servant serving the Lord and serving the devotees of the Lord and that way. We have our position but we are not the only one in the world, there are others and the spirit souls; they are as good as you are, no less. Literally speaking or some circumstances, big small positions in this world, age factor is there, then education in this world other topics, but Kunti Maharani says, there are 4 things that people become proud of in this world, one thing is the birth, high birth. For some reason, everyone thinks his birth is very high, because I have taken birth in such and such country, my birth is high, because I have taken birth in aristocratic family my birth is high. Because whatever…you could say so many things, you always have some justification how your birth is very high birth and you attached importance to it high birth, that’s one thing.

Then education, education is supposed to make you humble in fact, that’s why you become educated to become knowledgeable of your position, your constitutional position. Education is for that purpose but they never find out who they are, what they are, how tiny they are and who others are and in this whole infrastructure or whole situation they are just one bit, little piece, part of the puzzle. So education, people become proud of education.

Then some kind of beauty. Does anyone think that he is not beautiful? Everyone thinks I am and they look into the mirror and….(Laughter). Everyone is proud of his beauty, master piece or I am the standard. Although everyone has the same, every person has nose, 2 eyes, mouth, forehead, this 4- 5 parts on the face and they have been differently managed, same thing but as soon as you change the positions, different thing happen to you. The tiger, you push his nose down and they have tiger’s nose, cat’s nose. They have the manipulation, Nature is manipulating and just creating different feelings. But the best is, everyone has a mouth, everyone has a nose, nostrils and eyes and forehead, and the chin. There is so much variety, so much variety, for that we should be appreciating God because God’s nature is creating. No two persons are alike except for Pankajanghri and Jananivas in Mayapur. But there is also difference. Those who know, I haven’t figured it out in 30 years (Laughter) don’t tell them. I take long time before I open my mouth. I don’t know who is who there (Laughter) but there is a difference. So the beauty is the eye of the beholder it’s said. Even though the beauty doesn’t exist, the beholder, one who sees, he just feels he thinks, this is a beautiful person. So, like that there is attachment to the beauty.

And then the wealth the 4 things, the high birth then education, beauty, wealth. If I don’t have, I am going to acquire it. I have acquired so much and I have all these plans to acquire more. And I have defeated this enemy and I am going to defeat this many more. This is, Krishna says – demoniac nature, divine and demoniac nature. The thoughts of the demoniac person he always thinking like this, planning like this. So these factors become the bondage and it becomes difficult to exhibit humility. There is every reason they are proud of this possessions or these attributes, beauty, birth, high birth, education. The Lord, He possesses all these qualities, all these opulence’s. Here Prthu does possesses, Prthu Maharaja but he displays his humility. Here Prabhupada is pointing out, look look at this example of Prthu Maharaja, see how humble he is. Be humble; be gentle, gentle, humble. These are qualities of a vaisnava; 26 qualities of vaisnava.

So, there was an assembly of some saintly persons, in Maharashtra. One time, there was a gathering and they were testing who is humble, who is mature. So they decided to find out who is most matured in their knowledge. (Guru Maharaj discussing in Marathi, with a devotee in the audience, what’s his name?). So, we are just trying to gather right figures, right facts there. But the point is, so they decided to check out the humility and maturity of. One person was going to do the examination, he has a stick and he was going to beat on the head and so those who complained, those who protested, those who reacted or those who took their own stick to fight back, so they failed. And those who tolerated the beating on the head, they passed the test, they were considered humble, tolerant.

In other word, not identifying with the body or bodily concept and….No I am different from the body, you rascal, don’t hit me, you hit me! Prabhupada gave that example; someone in the back car dashed into the front car, the person in the front car said, ‘you, you hit me! You hit me!’ that person in the back car, the driver, I didn’t hit you, I hit only your car! But this person in the front car, he identifies himself so much with the car. Although his car was hit from behind, he is, he exclaimed, ‘No! You hit me, you! He came out and gave a punch on his nose. So something similar, this bodily concept; identifying with the body. So, education, the high birth, the beauty, the wealth this is all connected with the body. It is here today it will disappear tomorrow, one of these days and all you are left with the soul. Soul is what you are, what we are and not the body. But, we identify everything that is in relation with the body. My birth is here, so I took birth, my body took birth in this country, so immediately I am this, I am American, I am this, took birth in such and such family, oh! I am high birth such and such family. Wealth comes oh! And immediately I am wealthy person, next you go bankrupt and you are despondent. So, all these things, all in relationship with this world outside. So, cutting all these connections cut off and go internalize, turn towards God and then… My position in relationship with the Lord that is knowledge and that is most important. My relationship with this world is comes and goes, changes ever changing. Ya, so you may become Brahma, you may fall down, become Indra or indragopa germ, some germ its known as indragopa germ, I don’t know, have you seen? Some insignificant germ you become next day you may become Indra.

So, up and down you go, So that’s changing but there is one thing that never changes and answer is ‘ei jiva krsna das e biswas’ Bhaktivinoda Thakura says, ‘ei jiva krsna das e biswas’. These jivas, these living entities are Krsna’s dasa, Krsna’s servants. By knowing this, he says ‘korle to ar duhkho nai’, all your duhka, all your miseries finished. The day you are convinced that I am spirit soul and I am servant of Krsna, ‘ei jiva krsna das e biswas’. Full conviction that I am part and parcel of Krishna, I am servant of Krsna eternally, that is my position. I am eternally servant of Krishna. Thus, finished, you don’t have to bother with some promotion or demotion, promoted to become Indra, demoted to become germ, indra germ. You are free, fixed; my position is I am servant of Lord Krishna. Then, you don’t have to bother and whatever happens in this world up and going down. Others may think you are going up and down but you are fixed as a servant of Krsna, mind fixed to the last breath, not aspiring like Desai, could become Prime Minister; then you’ll come back, you’ll strive to become Prime Minister, all attached to the nice home, nice family, then you may have to come back. You could come back to the same house but you come back as a rat, in the same house you stay but as a rat.

So, the best policy is to find out, ‘ke ami’. This is Sanatana Goswami’s program, ‘ke ami’, he inquired that to Caitanya Mahaprabhu in Benaras, Varanasi. He ‘ke ami’ and why am I going through this, ‘tapa-traya’, why these four miseries; adhyatmika, adhidaivika, adhibautika are bothering me, torturing me, why? Why? This is his question and anyway we are going in philosophical here. The purpose was to say some more pastimes, Pandharpur dhama, Vitthala .

In Remuna in Orissa, then Pandharpur, I don’t know other places; they allow abhishek in front of you, then dressing in front of you. There are only few temples in Bharata varsa. There is no curtain between you and the Lord. This is Lord’s private..this is something that Yashoda has privileged, of course she doesn’t just sit around and watch , she is the one who does the bathing, changing clothes and putting on new clothes and the other assist. So, this is the Lord’s very confidential and internal and eternal spiritual affair pastimes. The bathing is a pastime; whole world is bathing, no big deal. The Lord is bathing, Lord is being dressed. Every time new experience, elevating, evolution and finally you show the mirror to the Lord.

(Guru Maharaj says) I remember when I was the head pujari in Radha Rasabihari temple, within couple of hours dressing Radha Rasabihari. Then turban and then peacock. As soon as you add turban, it would enhance the beauty and the peacock and then finally flute comes, that’s kind of order. And then you show the mirror to the Lord and while He is looking into the mirror, you look at Him and sometimes, happened few times, there is no peacock feather, you are showing mirror to the Lord!!! Then you realize, oh!..Then immediately….the flute is not there, you are showing the mirror to the Lord!!!(Laughter). So, that feeling, you look at the Lord while He is looking into the mirror after you have personally dress Him. The Lord is appreciating, you have dressed Him and He is appreciating the way He has been dressed by you. You feel, oh! The Lord is happy!

When I was the head pujari, brahmacari, I just had dhoti, I didn’t even have kurta (Laughter). It didn’t matter in Mumbai it was manageable without kurta or sometimes kurta, sometimes no kurta because also you cannot offer arati with a kurta on, and I had to offer 6 aratis, I was offering 6 aratis, every arati, so taking off kurta, putting on I was not bothering, I was just keeping it aside. So I didn’t have to bother about myself, my dressing, how I looked like. I was just happy seeing the Lord is happy. The Lord is satisfied, it doesn’t matter how you are looking like.

All lifelong all that you cared is your beauty, you looking into the mirror, praising your own beauty, appreciating your own beauty, your raised nose and your eyes reaching almost ears and if they didn’t reach, you going kind of stretching them with the kajal and ointment and brushing, dragging them. Although your eyes are just like a monkey, you want to make them like a deer and so many other attempts are there. And finally that body dwindles and death, all lifelong you appreciating your body, you attempting to improve your body and skin care and nail care and this polish and that polish. Useless, all that labor finally burnt to the ashes. That beauty you thought was beautiful. What a waste!! All those thoughts gone, finished.

Instead you should appreciate the beauty, appreciate the beauty of the Lord and all that appreciation is to your eternal credit. Purifying and not that you are not beautiful, but that’s not your body that is beautiful, the soul is beautiful, soul is beautiful, soul is Krishna’s child, Krsna is beautiful. The parents are beautiful then the children are also beautiful, isn’t it? That happens, the parents are beautiful featured then the children are also beautiful. So, Krsna is beautiful then His children, the souls are beautiful. We should be more proud of the soul’s beauty not body’s beauty. Soul’s beauty is also eternal, not only soul is eternal, soul’s beauty is also eternal.

So, this Lord Vitthala, Tukarama Maharaja says “sundar te dhyan ubhe vitevari kara katavari thevoniyaa” meditation on the Lord. This is a beautiful meditation of the Lord, Lord who is standing with His hands on His hips. This is “sundar te dhyan ubhe vitevari” the Lord who is standing on the brick. ‘tulsi har gada kase pitambar aavade nirantar hechi dhyana’ the Lord with the garland, tulasi garland this is special feature, I think no deity in the world I would say doesn’t get as much as tulasi and garlands as much as Lord Vitthala gets. No worship of Vishnu is complete without tulasi. That’s there offering tulasi to the feet, offering tulasi in the offering plate on each item. But here there are many tulasi they used, tulasi garlands, tulasi mala, ‘tulsi har gada ‘.

So, Tukarama has praised the Lord, ‘Oh! Lord, you have the garland around your neck, ‘tulsi har gad’ always there is a garland. Tulasi at your feet, tulasi around your neck because she is very dear. Something that is very dear to you, where you put that object? You put around your neck, so tulasi is very dear, so tulasi is around the neck of the Lord. ‘kase pitambar aavade nirantar hechi dhyana’ Oh! Lord, you with a tulasi garland and the bright yellow garments as you wear, I like to remember that form eternally. ‘makar kundale talapti shrwani kanti koustubhmani virajati’ makar kundale – then there are earrings like a shark, the fish and they are dazzling and that dazzle that glitter of the earrings then reflects on your face because they are shinning, sometimes shaking is there, so your face is already bright face, it becomes even more brighter as with the shinning of the earrings. ‘kanti koustubhmani virajati’ ‘ and around Your neck there kanti, kaustuba kaustubha, special mani jewel called kaustubha, no one else has a kaustubha jewel. When they did the churning of the ocean, the demigods on one side, the demons on another side and the milk ocean was being churned, 14 different items emerged from that churning and kaustubha mani was one of the jewels obtained and it was given to Vishnu, Krsna, oh! this is for You. So from that time onwards Vishnu is wearing that Kaustubha mani. Prior to that it was a bit difficult. If you go to Vaikuntha, the residence of Vaikuntha, they look like Vishnu with four hands, they also have crowns and so many similar features, so difficult to know who is who, you may be doing ‘jaya jagadish hare’ to some living entity (Laughter). You thought he is the Lord, that looks like Him, but that’s not Him! So, there was a difficulty like that in recognizing the Lord so He was given this kaustubha mani. That easy, right? One with the kaustubha mani is Vishnu, everyone else is His devotee, part and parcels. This kaustubha mani is like the I.D of the Lord. Oh! he is not the Lord, not the Lord, no kaustubha mani, not him, not him, not him, not him, Yes!! Him! Because He has kaustubha mani, ‘kanti koustubhmani virajati’.

So, “Tuka mhane maze hechi sarv sukh!! Pahin shri mukh avadine” Tukarama Maharaja says, this is it, this beautiful form of the Lord standing on the brick wearing yellow garments, tulasi garland around His neck, kaustubha mani on His chest and earrings hanging from His ears, this Lord, this I , I am just happy to meditate upon this Lord. So, this Lord, He came here from Dwarka and then He never went away! This deity is not installed by anybody; this understands of Tukarama and others. Lord came here and He stood here and He is waiting for His devotees to come to Him.

So, briefly you could say, that once in Dwarka, Rukmini noticed that her husband, Dwarakadhish was paying some extra attention to some young beautiful women. And she didn’t know who she was and the way He was mixing, mingling, very familiar and joking and He had good time and He was so friendly with them. And Rukmini was saying, Oh! Look! He is, He never behaves like this with me, first of all what business He has to talk with other women, so confidentially, so close and right here in my palace! In front of my nose! NO! She was very very upset, with her He has a different dealing, He acts like a boss, you shut up Rukmini, hey! I say shut down, but He was not doing like that; He was very friendly with these strange ladies. Rukmini has never seen before, certainly they were exceptionally beautiful, a group and there was one leader of that group. So, the gopis headed by Radharani, they were in Dwarka and so, Rukmini was naturally very disappointed with her husband, very upset, almost on the verge of going for divorce…just she didn’t go to any court or just she decided to quit or go away. So, she went away and travelled and travelled. Because she is from we could say so, we can’t read the mind of Rukmini, we don’t have access to Rukmini’s thoughts but we could say something that Rukmini appeared in Maharashtra is one of the state in India called Maharashtra. She appeared near Amravati, we have ISKCON center and we have ISKCON in the place of Rukmini’s birth!! Haribol!!

The birth place of Rukmini and we have 5 acres of land acquired in Rukmini’s birth place. Lots of time we do take this Maharashtrian tour to Rukmini’s birthplace, Kundinpur. It’s called Kundinpur. This time we didn’t go. I just received the call yesterday from our Akrura prabhu. He was in Kundinpur, Rukmini’s birthplace and he called and said we are also with Rukmini Dwarkanath. We are in Pandharpur, he is in Kundinpur, we were communicating and he is doing some initial land development, digging well and planting trees and fixing one hill; to have Govardhan hill, there is a hill already there and it was made like a Govardhan and so he is busy. In future you could go in Rukmini’s birthplace, so, she is from here. Maharashtra is very big, so that’s part of Maharashtra, so she left Gujarat, Dwarka, Gujarat state and she entered Maharashtra and finally she comes here on the bank of Chandrabhaga. There was a forest called Dindirvana, she selects this, some traces of the forest is still there, and so she was here by herself doing tapasya or leading various austere life away from opulence of Dwarka. And so there back in Dwarka when Dwarkadhish realized nowhere Rukmini to be found in the palace or in Dwarka town, then He started to search, looking for Rukmini.

There are two versions I have come across that says Dwarkadhish directly came here sitting in the chariot and He found Rukmini in Dindirvana, other side of the river; and the other version is, He went to Vrindavana first and from Vrndavana He came to, He was with, He took some cows with Him. He took cowherd boys with Him and the whole entourage is going around looking and searching and they came to a place called Gopalpur, that’s where you were there this morning. And you saw some footprints of the cows, the calves, yes or no? and flute, footprints, mark of the flute so that Gopala,Gopala Krsna, Gopalapur because Krsna came from Vrndavana and thus where He had come and He sits down takes His food, all the cowherd boys are sitting around Him and He finally finding Rukmini here.

So that 2 versions we can say He came directly from Dwarka, the other one He goes to Vrndavana and then He comes with the cows and cowherd boys from Vrndavana. Hence, the Gopalpur here. So He Dwarkadish, Sri Krsna tries to pacify her, His dear wife Rukmini but that didn’t work. She was very furious and fuming fired up.

So, Dwarkadish didn’t succeed so then He remembered, Lord remembered He had promised one devotee who was living in this area, that’s Lord promise was that He would visit him so Lord goes to visit him and his name is Pundalika and Lord knocked at the door. Hey! Who is it? That’s Me! So, Pundalika realized that from the deep voice, not ordinary voice, deep rumbling like when the clouds, thunder, like a thunder, sweet at the same time and he was a devotee and he had a promise. So, he was busy taking care of his vaisnava parents. “Serving vaisnavas is superior than serving Vishnu”. That philosophy. He requested Lord, ‘Lord I am a bit busy, please hold on, I’ll be just now finished, I’ll be with you, just few more minutes, so please take this, this asana for you.’ So, he took a brick and placed in front, please stand. So, Lord took that asana and stood there and then when he was done with serving his vaisnava parents, he was back with the Lord and then the dialogue. And very special appeal from this Pundalika to the Lord. ‘My dear Lord, you please stay here and thank you for your visit, I have been blessed. I am eternally indebted to you but I would like some many more in future blessed, benedicted by your presence, your darshan, so please stay here.’

And so, Lord decided, obliged and He stays on here, then after sometimes Rukmini, she was pacified, she forgave the Lord for His misbehavior, you could say so then she also joined. Because she joined a little later, she has separate temple, separate altar. They are not on the same altar as you have noticed. So, They have stayed on and They are here and we are here and it has taken long long time for us to directly come in contact with Lord face to face. So, this is not deity that was carved in Jaipur and then later on installed, that’s one way of doing things. The other way is called svayambhu, the Lord just manifests and becomes the deity. That is also not the case here. The third and very unique situation; that Lord during His manifest lila, He visits this place and He stands here, He becomes the deity, Lord. Like we know, Dwijavaninath from Navadwipa, there is Gaura Gadadhara temple in one of the nine islands. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Gadadhara they were visiting this Dwijavaninath and this devotee also requested, ‘My dear Lord, please you stay here’. So, when the Lords were requested, you please stay here, so the Lord became the deity but the two Lords also started towards Jagannatha Puri; that’s where They had to go but then this Dwijavaninath and Gauridas Pandit, two names I am hearing, two similar pastimes happened twice. I’ll say Dwijavaninath because I have heard that. So, when the Lords were walking towards Jagannatha Puri, They were leaving, Dwijavaninath ran, My Dear Lord, you stay.. you stay, then as he was requesting you stay, ok We stay. So, those who were walking towards Puri, they became deities and those who had earlier become deities, they began walking and as they are walking, he running to Them, hey! no, no You stay, you stay, ok We stay; They became deities and other party began walking. He was going back and forth and this pastime, Lord is trying to prove, I am not different from My deity and that we could also understand here.

So Lord stayed here and He also returned to Dwarka and continued His pastimes in Dwarka, not that everything was wound up here. That could be big question, oh! Then what happen to the remaining pastimes of the Lord? They happened as They returned. He stayed here and returned to Dwarka at the same time. So, that Lord is here, whole Gopalapur dimension is here, its Krsna, Vitthala is Krsna.

You saw Him eating butter? You noticed? They offered Him big bowl in the middle of arati. You took notice of that? It happens for few minutes….in the middle of the bathing, abhishek, the arati is going on and He is also offered a bowl butter, so He is Krsna. So, that is the basic foundation of ideas, pastimes and once the Lord was here, then always His devotees and Caitanya Mahaprabhu visits then Nityananda prabhu then many others, Sankaracharya and Tukarama. Aand there is chanting and dancing, ya, there lots of faith in chanting the Holy name people have in Maharashtra. Lots of Bhagavad Gita is also distributed in Maharashtra, Marathi language. The most sold Bhagavad Gita as It Is in India is in Marathi language!! More than Hindi, combined sales of India, Hindi Bhagavad Gita distributions, that is defeated by the scores of Bhagavad Gita in Marathi. There is big demand, big number. I remember when 30 years ago, I was selling Bhagavad Gita for 10 rupees, I sold Bhagavad Gita for 10 rupees, whole day I was saying “gita gya gita bagha” .

Agree with the Lord and disagree with Lord’s external energy or Maya

“tam krsna-padabhinivista-cetasam baddhanjalim prasraya-namra-kandharam
sunanda-nandav upasrtya sasmitam pratyucatuh puskaranabha-sammatau” (SB 4.12.22)

Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada (Srila Prabhupada ki……….. jai)

TRANSLATION:
Dhruva Maharaja was always absorbed in thinking of the lotus feet of Lord Krsna, his heart was full of Krsna. When the two confidential servants of the Supreme Lord, who were named Nanda and Sunanda, approached him, smiling happily, Dhruva stood with folded hands, bowing humbly. They then addressed him as follows.

PURPORT:

In this verse the word ‘puskaranabha-sammatau’ is significant. Krishna, or Lord Visnu, is known for His lotus eyes, lotus navel. These sentences are to be meditated; you could meditate as we go through these sentences. He has lotus eye, lotus feet and lotus palms, here He is called Puskara-nabha, which means “the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who has a lotus navel” and sammatau means “two confidential or very obedient servants”.
Where is this two coming from? sammatau that means two, not only sammata but sammatau there is difference. krishno –two krishnas, ramo- two ramas, sammatau- two confidential servants and they are obedient . The materialistic way of life differs from the spiritual way of life in that one is disobedience and the other is obedience to the will of the Supreme Lord. All living entities are part and parcel of the Supreme Lord and they are supposed to be always agreeable to the order of the Supreme Person; that is perfect oneness.
In the Vaikun?ha world all the living entities are in oneness with the Supreme Godhead because they never defy His orders. Here in the material world, however, they are not sammata- agreeable, but always asammata- disagreeable. This human form of life is a chance to be trained to be agreeable to the orders of the Supreme Lord. To bring about this training in society is the mission of the Krsna consciousness movement. Prabhupada says one of the mission statement of Krishna consciousness movement- “To bring about this training in the society is the mission of Krishna consciousness movement”.

As stated in the Bhagavad-gita, the laws of material nature are very strict; no one can overcome the stringent laws of material nature. You agree? Agreeing- disagreeing is the topic, this is the truth accept truth as it is. But one who becomes a surrendered soul and agrees to the order of the Supreme Lord can easily overcome those stringent laws.

“mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te” (B.G 7.14)

Including the stringent laws, one of the stringent law is “jatasya hi dhruvo mrtyur” (B.6 2.27) dhruvam Dhruv Maharaj, “jatasya hi dhruvo mrtyur” you have taken birth the death is ‘dhruvam’- death is certain. Also if you die, birth is also certain both. Stringent laws could be transcended by being agreeable to the Supreme Lord that’s the point here.

The example of Dhruva Maharaja is very fitting. Simply by becoming agreeable to the orders of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and by developing love for Godhead, Dhruva got the chance to personally meet the confidential servants of Lord Visnu face to face. What was possible for Dhruva Maharaja, listen to this; what was possible for Dhruva Maharaja is possible for everyone Haribol!! Good news, good morning news (Laughter) very encouraging, it is also food for thought in the early morning hours, thinking more about this all day. Anyone and Srila Prabhupada concludes the purport with this statement saying anyone who very seriously engages in devotional service can obtain, in due course of time, the same perfection of the human form of life.

You had darshan you develop love for the Lord and what is happening right now here through the stages towards the end of this episode Dhruva maharaj prasanga. He is getting ready to take off go back home that is also part of the perfection. Dhruv Maharaj is attaining “tam krsna-padabhinivis?a-cetasam baddhanjalim” anjali- palm, baddha- together tight baddhajalim,

“tam k?sna-padabhinivis?a-cetasam baddhanjalim prasraya-namra-kandharam sunanda-nandav upasrtya sasmitam pratyucatuh puskaranabha-sammatau”

Dhruva Maharaj was always absorbed in the thinking of lotus feet of Lord Krishna; his heart was full of Krishna.
Jai Radha Madhav ki………jai

When the two confidential servant of the Supreme Lord who were named Nanda and Sunanda approached him smilingly, smiling happily Dhruva Maharaj stood with the folded hands bowing humbly they then addressed him as follows. The viman has appeared descended and in there these Nanda and Sunanda confidential servants of Lord, they are coming down the aircraft and they are described even their beauties are described.

“deva-pravarau catur-bhujau” (S.B 4.12.20) how many hands, ‘shyamau’ their complexion and ‘kisorav’ – they are young not old folks and they also have lotus eyes and they have club in the hands and beautiful clothing and they have a crown and ‘kundalau’- earring, beautiful personality out of this world they coming from another world no one like them they were seen ‘sa dadarsa’. Dhruva Maharaj saw such personalities ‘vijnaya’-soon he realized “uttamagaya kinkara”. Oh! These are ‘kinkara’ – servants of Uttamagaya, Uttamsloka -Supreme Lord’s servants are here. ‘Utthitah’- immediately Dhruva Maharaj stood up ‘sadhvasa-vismrta-kramah’ but he is bit bewildered also not sure what to do now? ‘Nanama’ this could not go wrong, so he goes forward and he is offering his obeisance.

“namani grnan madhudvisah” (S.B 4.12.21)
chanting the holy names of ‘madhudvisah’ madhud-visah, not madhu visa, you get visa for this country that country. madhudvisah -this is the name of our God brother but he is always addressed not correctly, pronounced not correctly, madhudvisah enemy of madhu, dvisah- enemy madhudvisah. These names are chanted, Lords name he is chanting and as this all happening immediately by seeing those two ‘gaya-kinkarav’ the two servants immediately he is remembering Lord “tam krsna-padabhinivista-cetasam” Dhruva Maharaj started remembering the lotus feet of the Lord starting with the lotus feet of Lord his remembrance begins, totally absorbed full absorption 100% cetasam. ‘mac-citta’- Krishna says like that “mac-citta mad-gata-prana bodhayantah parasparam”

Sri Krishna glorifies or He does introduction of His devotee, what kind of my devotee? mac-citta – his chetna his consciousness ‘mac-citta’- glue down to me. ‘padabhinivis?a-cetasam’ this is his consciousness internally he is absorbed as he is remembering the lotus feet of Lord. ‘Baddhanjalim’ natural manifestation of what is inside what he is thinking about external manifestation immediately his hands are ‘Baddhanjalim’ folded hands ‘prasraya-namra-kandharam’- his shoulder he is bowing down namra with humility bow down, ‘ashraya’ he is taking shelter of the Lord he is bowing down.
“sunanda-nandav upasrtya” and he is noticing those two ‘kinkarav’ the servants are ‘upasrtya’ – they are gradually coming towards him and he is also noticing ‘sasmitam’ – they are smiling they are very happy ‘sasmitam’ and now these two personalities are described “puskaranabha-sammatau” puskaranab- Lord with the lotus naval and seven part of His body are lotus like some of them four five of them are mention already in purport 7 parts are like lotus like, seven parts are pinkish in complexion and total 32 symptoms of Personality of mahapurush the great personality, Personality of Godhead 32 symptoms long arms reaching the knees, broad shoulders ,raised nose.

Dhruva Maharaj was informed by Narada Muni in advance as you will follow the proper channel follow the process the “om namo bhagvate vasudevaya” follow the particular process you will be seeing the Lord and in advance I tell you, when you look at the Lord when you see the lord- He is going to be like this. So that no one could come and cheat “I am Bhagvan!!!!” so he did not know what Bhagvan looks like, then he would go for that Bhagvan. No! No! When you will see the Lord whole description was there, first dialogue there are several verses Narad muni goes on and on Lord like this. His nose would be raised nose not like this; somehow sign of beauty is considered having raised nose is sign of beauty .When matchmaking going on atleast in India they look at the nose of the bride (laughter) bride or bride groom which one? I get confused. Bridegroom is male or female? Bride, so unknowingly they know the standard of beauty is raised nose. Lord has raised nose try to look for such kind of nose and Lord has deep voice, when He talks it’s like rumbling of the clouds His voice deep and loud and clear could go all over universe without microphone could reach everywhere.

When Lord Narsimha was roaring whole world was trembling, so they were hearing lion coming lion coming they were scared. when Krishna plays flute its sound goes all over but again it is, Lord has complete control over that sound also when Krishna plays flute sound is goes all over Braj but not that everyone is listening. Two persons sitting next to each other one of them listens Gopis are listening and they are getting up and running away hey! What happen? What happen? They know what happen they heard. So Lord has complete control who hears, who is allowed to hear, who is not allowed to hear. So not that He just throws like free cookies and wherever it lands. He has whole plan, he listens, he does not listen, he does not listens, he listens. His intelligence is very deep, deep intelligence, naval is deep also. So some part of His body are deep deep naval, deep intelligence like that some part are raised so grand total is 32. Narad muni had given these hints Lord will be looking like one of this “puskaranabha-sammatau”. So when Dhruv Maharaj had seen this “puskaranabha-sammatau” these authorized persons, confidential servants of the Lord, he was infact momentarily bewildered he did not know what to do next so what does this mean.

“sadhvasa-vismrtathe krama?” (S.B 4.12.21) same thing also happened to Dhruva Maharaj, when he had darshan of the Lord now here he is getting ready to go back to Godhead but when he darshan of the Lord for the first time in Madhuvan. You had been hearing Madhuvan Madhuvan but how many of you know where Madhuvan is? How many of you? You may say Vrindavan. He went to the forest we have heard those mention but which forest did he go to? Which forest? Vrindavan forest and then Vrindavan has 12 forest , Radharaman maharaj knows he is sitting here and Madhuvan is forest not far from Mathura Vrindavan next time you are in Vrindavan Mathura you go to Madhuvan its few kilometers outside Mathura infact. When we go on Brajmandal Parikrama that’s easy way don’t go alone come with us (Laughter) this year. (Maharaj says) could I do little commercial here (Laughter) 2011 Brajmandal Parikrama is 25th Brajmandal Parikrama

Brajmandal Parikrama Silver Jubilee Ki…. Jai……..Haribol

So we have very special Parikrama coming up go with us. So as we start our Parikrama very first forest is Madhuvan just outside Mathura and we spend one whole day and one night also he did not meet Narada Muni there he met Narada Muni in Mathura on the banks of Jamuna called as Dhruva Ghat and Narada Muni said – “You go to Madhuvan” and then he went to Madhuvan.

So we spent there because Parikrama is little tapasya program (laughs) don’t be scared, so coincidence first place we go to the place where tapasya was performed by Dhruva Maharaj. So we pray we pray and pray for his mercy so that we are also able to perform some austerity some tapasya. So madhuvan is where? Some idea now, so that’s where he had darshan of the Lord in Satyuga. Madhuvan is also very special, in all the four yugas Lord appeared there in Satya, Treta, Dwapar, Kali this is very significant thing about madhuvan.
So in satyuga He appeared to give darshan He is always there but then He appeared and this pastime took place right there in Madhuvan. So where Dhruva maharaj was performing austerities. This is beginning of pastime of Dhruva maharaj what he was doing is described here he had very intense, very intense program and when there was fruit of that “tivrena bhakti-yogena” Dhruva maharaj is known for this he is serious, very intense “tivrena bhakti-yogena”.
“satatam kirtayanto mam yatantas ca dridha-vratah” (B.G 9.14)

“dridha-vratah” – vow, Dhruva means fixed, how many of you would like to get fixed up? I would like to be fixed up, so it’s very befitting that we are by hearing about the fixed up devotees by being with around the fixed up devotees. Dhruva means fixed, immovable or unstoppable nothing could stop him. Oh! You are just a child, “no….no… whatever I want to meet the Lord” and then he was in that forest. The other day we went to the Bhaktivedanta School and they had a school drama very wonderful drama the topic was Dhruva maharaj and then whole light and sounds very facts like walking through the pages of Bhagvatam or Life of Dhruva maharaj. So especially when this scene, Nanda and Sunanda coming down and to bring him back home very mystical the colors and lights and sounds like real thing, like face to face witnessing that.

So Dhruva maharaj he has already spent six month in Madhuvan within six months he managed to have the darshan of the Lord, he broke all the records within six months. Even it took six years for Buddha to become enlightened in Gaya he spent six years then some enlightenment something came in his direction. But Dhruva maharaj just six month and I was not even six months in the movement in Bombay I had a service of going door to door and begging for rice for food for life, during that time, I was a new bhakta and people would as, O! Have you seen God? (Laughter) and I was thinking give me a break. I just started atleast Dhruva maharaj had six month and I am just few month old bhakta give me some more time. Then six month passed, six year passed (laughter) I am still waiting.

So within six month he managed first month he lived on fruits only then leaves only then water only then air only and then no air Lord only then Lord appeared. But again Dhruva maharaj was so much absorbed, perfection of all that he had been doing austerities and yoga, meditation, mantra chanting he was so much absorbed. He was seeing the Lord inside and Lord had come personally and was standing before him but because he was so much absorbed he did not even take note of Lord standing before him. Lord was wondering O! What happened? Hey! Dhruva hey! I m here, He is trying to get his attention; Dhruva is just absorbed seeing the Lord within with the spiritual vision not with this chakshus but divya chakshu. He was seeing the Lord, Lord soon realized he is taking darshan my darshan within. So Lord turned off that screen inside and then immediacy Dhruva maharaj, hey! What happen did I lose him? As he opened his eyes, Lord that was within was in front of him Haribol….

And now as he was seeing the Lord “tad-darsanenagata-sadhvasah” (S.B 4.9.3) same thing same word this ‘sadhvasah’ which was infact in yesterdays verse, Dhruva maharaj as he was seeing the Lord he was temporarily bewildered not know what to do, what next and again the same symptoms he starts offering prayers. So very similar when he had first darshan and the ultimately he is going back to home two times he is going through very similar emotions dealing with the Lord and here dealing with the confidential servants of the Lord. He is offering prayers as he saw the Lord in Madhuvan dandvat very humbly bowed down and as he saw Lord in front of him he is drinking the beauty of the form of the Lord drinking the beauty of that form of Lord with his eyes.

And of course the Gopis they are very expert in drinking the beauty of Lord and they drink whole beauty they drink the beauty of form of Lord with eyes they drink they drink bring the Lord and as soon as Lord is inside they close these windows these eyes. They take Him to the heart make Him sit down on the throne and then they deal with Him communicate; reciprocate with Him they couldn’t do that outside so many social pressures and customs and netiquettes to be followed they couldn’t meet outside in public. So they would drink the Lord His form beauty and contemplate. So Dhruva maharaj was doing something similar here he is drinking the beauty of Lord with his eyes and with mouth he is kissing the feet of the Lord there is talk of feet when he had first darshan as he is now getting ready to go, he is remembering the same lotus feet of the Lord “padabhinivista-cetasam” absorbed in same lotus feet he had darshan before now he is remembering same darshan of the Lord with his arms he is trying to embrace the Lord. Thus he is practicing, remembering the Lord’s form, beauty trained like that total agreement with the Lord, he is now remembering the Lord at the final moments his life.

Some of the devotees were in Haridwar and they noticed that so many truck loads of coca cola bottles they were distributing freely distributing freely free coca cola right on the bank of Ganga. Some of our preacher asked, what’s happening you are distributing right on the banks of Ganga this coca cola jal not ganga jal whats the idea? So they said when our father was about to leave body we knew he was a devotee of Shiva and so we were reminding “please daddy please daddy remember Bhola” one of the name of Shiva is Bhola Bhola Bhole nath but this father was saying no..no..coca cola (laughter) no no daddy only few more breath to go please say Bhola few more minutes to go please say Bhola no no get me coco cola (laughter) now only one more breath to go please daddy please daddy make attempt to say Bhola atleast no get me coca cola. And he went probably to coca cola loka (laughter). So they the foolish sons they thought last will of our father was coca cola he wanted coca cola so they went to Haridwar distributing coca cola thousands of bottle of coca cola.

So Prabhupada most significant words in this verse Prabhupada has pointed out “puskaranabha-sammatau” pushkarnabh lotus naval Lord and sammatau one who agrees one who agrees, sammautau recognize, approved by the Supreme Personality of Godhead or agreed upon by Supreme Personality of Godhead sanctioned favored by . This word appears in Srimad Bhagvatama and so many other scriptures everywhere 18 entries for this sammata word.

“puskaranabha-sammatau” so agreeing with the the Pushkarnabh, “puskaranabha-sammatau” agreeing with the Supreme Personality of Godhead and then it comes sadhu sammata, shastra sammata approved by sadus, shastra sammata approved by the shastra, acharya sammata approved by the acharya and like that. Then this is all spiritual and desirable all this sanctions, approvals and expectants this kind of agreement with Lord, sadhu, shastra, acharya or Prabhupada sammata, Prabhupada sammata approved by Srila Prabhupada sanctioned by Srila Prabhupada, authorized by Prabhupada and our all Parampara parampara sammata approved by disiplic succession.

So that’s one whole set of approvals or sanctions, agreement and there is whole world out there and they have their sanctions and approvals and agreements and that is you get by agreeing with them with their approval their authorization that’s all brain washing goes on in this world life after life “bahunam janmanam ante” and then comes movement in our life “jnanavan mam prapadyate” (B.G 7.19)

By lords causeless mercy person becomes bhagyavan and he goes for “vasudeva? sarvam iti” he has jnana now, what is his knowledge? “ Vasudev sarvam iti” only this much “Vasudev is all in all” how much knowledge “ Vasudev is all in all” this much knowledge “sa mahatma sudurlabhah” that Mahatma such soul is rare.

So Srila Prabhupada is pointing out in the purport that this Hare Krishna movement is this is the program to train the souls the devotees from other kind of agreement get rid of that, agreeing with the people like asses, like the stool eaters they are agreeing upon different things and praising each other and what not. So get out of that kick all that “sarva-dharman parityajya” and go for “mam ekam saranam vraja” go for such training to train ourselves to agree with the Lord –Radha Madhav sammataha. Sammataha root word is ‘mata’- means obedient of the Lord, His approvals, things authorized by Him. This is Hare Krishna movement with this mission learning to agree with the Lord and to disagree with Lord’s external energy or Maya and agreeing with Krishna if we did that then Prabhupada says same thing could happen to everybody, everyone has a chance. Anyone who very seriously is in devotional service can obtain in due course of time same perfection of human form of life as it was attained by Dhruva Maharaj…..ki …………jai.

Attitude of a Preacher

Hari bol!!

“Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya”

So today is very last, this is very last day of the whole session (laughter) time for celebration, finally. You’re happy that you have learned a lot or happy that you’ve finished? Studies never finish I was talking the other day it’s a long life long process, ever learning remain students for rest of your life, keep learning. What is the topic? Surrender. What is the big topic? What is the subject that you study? Or we all study? What is the subject or object of our knowledge? Krishna.

So much to know, every time you know you become joyful properly situated ‘Sthitosmi gata sandeh’ (B.G 18.73) this goes on every day, every day you know more sthitosmi, sthitah-asmi properly situated more properly situated grounded, otherwise ‘kamala-dala-jala jivana talamala’ (Laughter) can’t settle may be tilting, collapsing, sinking, terminating but with the knowledge hearing which is bhakti yoga a person is svarupena, finally ‘sva-rupena vyavasthitih’. Svarup, sva- our, own rupa our own form in relationship with the Lord not that we separately situate ourselves. We situate ourselves at the lotus feet of the Lord. ‘dhuli-sadrisham vichintaya-sthitah, tava pada-pankaja-sthita’ sthiosmi-situated where? At the lotus feet. And acting not just sitting situated sitting acting kayena- acting with the body, manasa-with the mind, budhya-with the intelligence. kevalya indriyerapi- even all the senses are active engaged employed in the service of the Lord. “Yoginah karma kuruvanti” – yogi’s act this is how they become Bhakti yogis. One kind of Yogi’s they are jnani’s, so they attain only shanta-rasa, they are Jnani Bhaktas and they attain shanti, peace.

“The Gopis are never peaceful” (laughter).

Always running where is Krishna where is Krishna? When I am going to see Him? Where I am going to get flowers for Him on the banks of Kusum sarovar. When we meet Him? Is someone going to interrupt our meeting? Or is Madhumangal going to be coming? O! I got rid of Madhu, O! I got rid of Madhu.

You know that pastime at Premasarovar, Madhumangal comes with a stick for bumble bee that was disturbing Kishor-Kishori. He thought why is this bumble bee bothering the divine couple? So he came with a stick and droves it away. And while it was going away, O! I got rid of Madhu I got rid of Madhu. Then Radharani jumps into conclusion that he got rid of my Madhusudan. Finally we had met finally we had met and this rascal Madhumangal he got rid of my Madhusudan. She jumps to that conclusion and she is feeling all vacant without Madhusudan and She is into tears. Krishna was next to Her and He was like I am here I am here, He makes attempt, she was gone no external consciousness she was deep within. So He could not convince that He was next to Her. Seeing Radharani in that sorry state of existence Krishna, He was influenced He was overwhelmed and He was into tears seeing Radharani’s state of mind and the separation. And Radha’s tears and Krishna’s tears they were flowing down they were mixing and flowing and they were filling up a lake. Filling up a whole lake with tears of Radha and Krishna. So that lake is still there today in between Barsana and Nandgaon. That lake is called Prema sarovar. So the Gopis life is not that peaceful.

So Bhakti yogis are busy engaging their body, mind, intelligence, sense whatever else is in their possession. So ‘tvadiya vastu govinda tubhyam- eva samarpaye’, this is the attitude, we are talking of attitude or person in knowledge he comes to conclusion that ‘Tvadiya vastu Govinda’ Hey! Govind all these vastu all these things in my possession are yours. Hence what do I do? I offer them back to You. Engage them in your service. Oh! Then I become free become liberated. Otherwise it’s just big burden. Some people don’t mind that burden they go on increasing burden.

Srila Prabhupada once told humorous story of an old lady carrying a big bundle of stick. Wind coming blew away her bundle of sticks. Started telling ‘Please Please God wherever you are please appear here. When God appeared, ‘Yes lady what could I do for you? Please help. Don’t you see this bundle of stick this is mine I had collected them. Please help so God was helping kept the bundle on head, lady was in business and Bye!..(Laughter).
The Karmis or others may not offer everything to the Lord. They may need help just to increase their burden. Karma, karma is performed by karmis and Karmis are into furtive activities furtive results. So there is karma mishra and jnana mishra. The knowledgeable person as we heard this morning Kapil dev instructs his mother he performed devotional service, surrender everything unto the Lord it is His.

“Appropriate attitude of a preacher in reference to Nectar of Devotion”

Here is the attitude, the author of Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Srila Rupa Gosvami, very humbly submits that he is just trying to spread Krishna consciousness all over the world, although he humbly thinks himself unfit for this work. So we are Rupanugas, anuga means one who goes after Acharyas, go and then anu behind you go then you become Prabhupadanuga –Rupanuga- Acharyanuga.

So “sri-caitanya-mano-bhistam sthapitum yena bhtu-tale, svayam rupah kada mahyam dadati sva-padantikam”. So Rupa goswami and like him the other Acharyas they know ‘Sri Caitanya mano abhistam’- what is on the mind of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu they know. Caitanya Mahaprabhu was reciting very confidential verse at the time of rathayatra. It was in the mind of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and later on Caitanya Mahaprabhu found out the kutir of Rupa goswami He found a piece of paper maybe some leaf and that verse which He was thinking of was found He was surprise, how come, and who is it? Who read my mind? And there was none other than Rupa goswami. That time when Mahaprabhu had arrived at Rupa goswami’s kutir Rupa goswami was in the ocean taking his noon bath and as he returned, are you the one? Is this yours? So Rupa goswami had access to the mind of Caitanya Mahaprabhu- Sri Caitanya mano abhistam. Because Lord is cause of all causes including this one, Caitanya Mahaprabhu revealed this verse into the heart of Rupa Goswami.

So Acharyas they know the mind of the Lord, mission of the Lord they execute the mission. But they always humbly think that they are unfit to do this work. That should be the attitude of all preachers in Krishna conscious movement. That is all you all are preachers propagators of Krishna consciousness. Brahmins, learned brahmins and pandits what does pandit Brahmin do? Pathan-paathan. Pathan-paathan he studies and he teaches this is a primary function of brahmin. Adhyan-Adhyapan studying shastras keeping his life simple not complicating otherwise he will have to work. There is no time of studies, no time for sharing the knowledge. So he keeps his life simple bare minimum necessities. His thoughts are high; life is simple, simple living high thinking.

So what is high thinking? What is highest thought?

Krishna Conscious related thoughts, Krishna’s thoughts in Bhagvat Gita this is high thinking, Bhagvatam this is high thinking. So when those high thoughts are there then we could also one could also manage with simple living without high thinking simple living is not possible it’s difficult. Those who wish to be live simple simply not just simply living (laughter) simple living and simply living there is difference. So you should take note of what is high thinking. We keep on saying high thinking high thinking simple living high thinking, what is high thinking? Krishna consciousness. Think like God thinking like god, so our father is our Lord of course just little fraction of all that God things we could, we have limits we could only choose so much, store only so much thoughts accumulate, assimilate or capability capacity small same thought just some bits of those thoughts God’s thoughts. God’s thought thinking like God, Godly person who becomes godly doesn’t become god. He becomes godly because his thoughts are like God. They are good godly then they are good for that person who is thinking and others those who come into his contact those who listen to him whole welfare.

We should never think of ourselves as great preacher but should always consider that we are simply instrumental to the previous acharyas and simply by following in their footsteps we may be able to do something for benefit of suffering humanity, so that kind of attitude. We are never independent we are dependent or interdependent or independently thoughtful. Prabhupada said he would like to see his followers independently thoughtful. Srila Prabhupada that Markine Bhagvata and Srila Prabhupada is in Boston and when he saw people in Boston when he saw the rat race. Like a rat people are moving backwards and forwards. Srila Prabhupada is there with the Caption Pandey of the Jaladuta boats captain- ‘Swamiji come we’ll go for a little walk.’ This is the first time Srila Prabhupada has touched the land of America, land of opportunities they say. By seeing the mood of the people there and Prabhupada was like oh! These people are not even stopping. How do I preach? But Lord You have brought me here and my Guru maharaj has desired that I go to the west and preach Krishna Consciousness in English language. And Prabhupada started praying he gets on the boat. Now boat is going from Boston to New York. Srila Prabhupada is with pen and paper in boat and he is writing.

“nachao prabhu nachao nachao sei mate ami to kasteir putali” – I am just a puppet in your hand my dear Lord make me dance Oh ! Lord make me dance as you feel make me dance, let me talk or dance as you feel. My name is Bhaktivedanta now you have to prove, do something so that Bhakti and Vedanta, I am supposed to be equipped with Bhakti and Vedanta the conclusion of the Vedas are known to this person he is embodiment of bhakti. So you get something done through me use me. That’s the mood he is praying to his Guru maharaj, praying to Shri Krishna. And always giving credit to his Guru maharaj ‘MY GURU MAHARAJ MY GURU MAHARAJ’. I am sure you have heard Srila Prabhupadas lectures when he makes reference to his guru maharaj the way he says “my Guru Maharaj” with his heart. He is proud and heartful, mouthful my guru mahraj and that if there is anything miraculous you are seeing westerners have taken to Krishna consciousness this is mercy of My Guru Maharaj. I feel his presence always as if My Guru Maharaj is next to me and asking me to do this do that he is watching.

Oh! Why he is Bhavktivedanta Swami Maharaj he passes by Bhaktisiddhant sarasvati Samadhi whenever he comes to Kolkata to Mayapur he does not get out, he doesn’t pay respect to his guru maharaj samadhi some of god brothers. Srila Prabhupads god brothers making comment like this and finally these comments reaches Prabhupada and (bang on the table) what do they think my guru maharaj and he is always next to me. So whether every time he got out of the car and offered his obeisance’s not, he said always my guru maharaj is next to me. He is present he is guiding me I feel his presence.

“krsna se tomara, krsna dite paro, tomara sakati ache, ami to kangala, krsna krsna boli, dhai tava pache pache”. This is the mood of the preacher or a follower, he humbly submits that Krishna is with you, you have Krishna you have Krishna, and you are competent to give that Krishna to me hence I am running after you ‘dhai tava pache pache’. I am just pauper and have no good qualities I am just made up of your mercy. All these quotes our Acharyas have beautifully written sung in the poetry of Bhaktivinod, Narottam Das thakur. So simply by following in their footsteps we may to do something for the benefit of suffering humanity. So on our own we don’t do nothing much, we are we do on behalf of our previous acharyas, our spiritual master then we are empowered and we are able to accomplish something. That mood is not there then we are cut off then dry branch of the Caitanya tree (laughter). That branch may be still on the tree and acting in some way but it is all dry. Not only the branch should be part of the trunk of the tree all the juice going through it then leaves and the flowers and the fruits and then one offers that to others. Ok so just little glimpse of that mood, we were contemplating our attitude appropriate attitude of the preacher of Krishna Consciousness.

And then what happens today were you given some home work? Ok. Students reading assignment Bhagvat Gita chapter 18 verse is 56 all the way to the end of the chapter. And then it says identify and discuss the relevant significance verses mentioned in the Bhagvat Gita that section last chapter. This sections this group of verses. So you have studied all these verses? What does that mean you have memorized kanthastha? Learned by heart or Learned by throat? Yeah these are really wonderful verses. One should put oneself himself at the position of Arjun and listen hear Bhagvat Gita.

Bhagvat Gita is targeted towards each one of us.

Then Arjun is asking question they are like our question. We don’t even know how to ask or what question to be asked. Arjun is doing all that perfect questions perfect answers that is what this dialogue is Bhagvat Gita. World has heard or seen how many dialogue right now how many dialogue are going on in the world? 100? (Laughter) everywhere every nook and corner wherever you go. On the earth, in the ocean, on the trees, in the sky, in the heaven, in the hell. Talk on mobile has become cheaper now so people are just talking talk it up Chat, chatting talk is cheap talking has become cheap now. Because it cost less talk is becoming cheaper and cheaper there is no quality no substance of people no quality people are just talking not even thinking just talking. They use to say just do it now it’s just talk it. So these are all dialogues they are all conversations and then this world has experienced one extra ordinary dialogue“samvadam imam adbhutam” that wonderful, astounding, amazing, divine conversation and that is this Bhagvat Gita.

“gita sugita kartavya kim anyaih sastra-vistaraih” what is the need of any other conversation any other dialogue any other sastra this is “ekam sastram devaki-putra-gitam”- One sastra is enough, one scripture is enough Bhagvat Gita.

So the Lord had come He did come and if He had gone and returned to His own abode without giving Bhagavt Gita then what would we be doing? Lord will stay on His spiritual sky and we would stay here on and on and on… He wanted us to follow Him. Get out of here go back to Him and to do that He has left this message behind in the form of Bhagvat Gita, Haribol Haribol Haribol. Meaning what? Spirit soul. So anyone wants to make some comments? Observations? You found something significant got some realization which you would like to share with us?

(Devotee asking question about sikha and feeling sleepy in class) (Maharaj says) It might be boring my presentation; you should tie your Shikha to the fan there and put it on, fan on (Laughter). In good old days the gurukulies they use to have their shikhas tied. So you are not the first one and only one it’s a tradition. Ya ok, you want something which will wake you up? Once and for all when you think you have to when you stop thinking then. One mantra wakes you up in ISKCON they say ‘maha-prasade govinde’ you wake up ‘Om namo bhagavate’ (Laughter).

Yes Prabhu (another devotee asking question) well, lot of time you are given instruction to do this. Spiritual master they give general instructions and he gives some specific instruction do this or do padayatra or print books or distribute books or preach in English language. Yes do scientific preaching life comes from life and not matter prove this to the dull headed scientist otherwise kick on their face. So once you are given this assignment and you are in the field to accomplishing it and this is when the attitude that we just talked about you are not independent. Because this activity of preaching is not a mundane material activity mercy factor is there. And current has to flow from Krishna to whole disciplic succession to you then you are empowered. “krsna-sakti vina nahe tara pravartana” what is the other part? “kali-kalera dharma hari nama-sankirtana” dharma for this age of kali is nama sankirtan and to propagate this sankirtan movement “krsna-sakti vina nahe tara pravartana” Krishna is shakti.

By mercy of spiritual master we get that shakti we get intelligence whatever it takes to do it.

As soon as again we think we think we are the doers I am the doer I don’t need anybody I can do myself and pride and all that then whole flow of that energy, flow of empowerment is blocked then your mind becomes a bad conductor. Electricity when it flows there some wires and metals are good conductor it is said some are bad conductor they creates resistance something that is flowing and something else resists it protects it or blocks it from flowing or coming to you. When fan has regulator and regulator is on 5 so fan is? (Fuhhhh) fastest speed so what does that what is happening there? What regulator is doing? Least resistance so current is coming from power house and to those wires and to your house. So the regulator on 5 means allows current to flow whatever current is coming all supplied to that fan. If it is in the middle it is blocked only so much current is allowed to go to the fan and move the fan. If it is on 1 it’s more resistance more blockage only little leakage little flow is allowed and then fan moves also slow and then when it is on 0 complete blockage and no flow of current, fan is there everything is there whole setup is there but no movement because everything is blocked.

So this attitude of mind intelligence how that function what we think or what is our mood with that either we allow parampara to act through us or we block that whole energy or flow whole mercy whole intelligence and then your pride and your this. So our capacity to function one could accomplish so much we should not think I could do only so much but if you allow Krishna to work through us than unlimited. See how much Prabhupada accomplished so it wasn’t just 70 year old man who is penny less and friend less as he appears externally. But he was neither penny-less he had wealth of the holy name and he was not friend less he had best friend with him that is Krishna and the holy name. Just see how much was accomplished otherwise this is 70 year old man who doesn’t even leave home what to speak of going overseas and.. Hmm is that enough?

(Another question from a devotee) Start thinking and a simple life would be a byproduct which you just follow. If you keep thinking high think of Krishna your bodily concept would be nil or just to keep body and soul together kind of philosophy and if that’s not the case than all the lust, all the greed, all the anger of the world will take over and there is no end to how much you have to accumulate to fulfill the desires. So this Mr. Anger Prabhupada says- Mr. Lust and he has younger brother he said called anger. ‘kamat krodho bhijayate’ (BG 2.62) from kama comes from krodha so first there is kama- lust and then from lust comes anger.

So this world is very busy it is accumulating and there is no end to all that greed. One thing is a need, Mahatma Gandhi said need is ok so basic need you need some little shelter, few set of cloth, food to eat like that basic needs you have right to fulfill your needs. But when the greed is taken over there is no end to it. So they try to do this family planning they try to decrease the number of people on the planet or in the country. So they think that each one will have enough if less people X amount of wealth. People are less so each one gets little more share let’s cut down the population cut down. But that is not really the solution. Finally say there are only 2 people cutting down cutting down now only 2. What do those 2 people think? You will think 2 is too many, 2 person is too many there should be only 1 and that’s me. Because you know I have to share 50:50 he gets the half of the wealth of the country or the planet goes to him only half I get. This is not fare because the condition soul ‘ishvaro aham’ that’s the disease. I am the controller and he is competing he is competing with the Lord right? Unknowingly living entity is competing with the Lord. So as much Lord has, no I should have that much. I cannot be half Lord I want to be full Lord. So if this high thinking is not there, proper thinking is not there Krishna Conscious thinking teachings of Bhagvat Gita one has not learned then there is no end. You are high living lifestyle and death style even I will die in a style.

(Question by a devotee) what does he say there and what verse is He saying? ‘yathecchasi tatha kuru’ (B.G 18.63) Krishna is Krishna may be giving option but we don’t. I was just listening it’s said that the spiritual master is more merciful than Krishna in one sense that Krishna gives choice but spiritual master just do the right thing just do this. Not this or that it goes ill together the spiritual life and material life and sense gratification and sinful life goes ill together. We cannot have one foot in one boat and one foot in another boat. It is very awkward. So you have to take off the foot from the other boat and just be in a boat that is going back to home we are going back to home tin tin tin tin some devotees play guitar we are going back to home (Singing).
So that means they have to come on this boat. Yeah so I mean first we encourage them to practice this devotional service high thinking and then they will give up the lower nature lower thinking. So when those young American boys and girls the early followers they were coming there were no screening on the door only pure devotees come in everyone else out, everyone was welcome and everyone was encouraged to chant and dance and sit down little philosophy and Prabhupada was personally feeding them prasad cooked by him, offered by him even washing pots afterwards. Then at certain point he introduced 4 regulative principle and those who wish to follow will join our mission you have to follow regulative principle are you ready? And they were ready by that time. So that is all step by step approach brings them higher and higher and higher.

So we know what the goal is ‘bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yas casmi tattvata?’ (B.G 18.55) to know tattvatah. Lord is stressing herein verse 55 ‘tato mam tattvato jnatva’ one who knows Me tattvatah is very important to know tattva, siddhanta, philosophy or things as they are, then that person will enter ‘visate tad-anantaram’. “sarva-karmany api sada kurvano mad-vyapasrayah mat-prasadad avapnoti sasvatam padam avyayam” (B.G 18.56). So then that person will attain final destination eternal destination that’s Lord’s abode. ‘cetasa sarva-karmani’ (B.G 18.57) so with all intelligence full Krishna Consciousness you render all services ‘sarva-karmani sannyasya’, sannyasya giving up whatever is false.

‘buddhi-yogam upasritya mac-cittah satatam bhava” (B.G 18.57)

‘mac-cittah’ means Krishna consciousness in your chetana there is Krishna mac-cittah. I am in your consciousness you become like that 24 hours a day Prabhupada is translating ‘mac-cittah sarva-durgani mat-prasadat tarisyasi’(B.G 18.58) . So by Lord’s grace ‘mat-prasadat sarva-durgani’ durga, ga means going and du means dushkar very difficult to go or cross over transcend. So ‘mat-prasadat’–by my mercy you will be able to overcome. ‘atha cet tvam ahankaran na srosyasi vinanksyasi’ but you don’t listen to me because of your pride this is like towards the end, Krishna has been talking for past 40 minutes few more minutes to go before He would conclude His conversation then He says because of false ego if you don’t listen to Me then you will be lost.
‘yad ahankaram asritya na yotsya iti manyase’(B.G 18.59) I will not fight because if your false pride if you would take that stand I will not fight then by my nature you will have to be engaged in warfare and whole purport and nice things explained. Everyone has a propensity he is a kshatriya so fighting is natural for him. So if he doesn’t fight for Krishna doesn’t use his propensity for Krishna then he will use it for something else he will kill some sparrows some birds. It is in the blood in the system if he doesn’t do for Krishna then ‘isvarah sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese arjuna tisthati’ (B.G 18.61) very nice verse “bhramayan sarva-bhutani yantrarudhani mayaya” isvarah although isvarah parmeshwar Himself is talking so Krishna is talking as if you know He is Isvarah. Isvarah sarva-bhutanam, isvarah stays in the heart of all the living entity. He doesn’t say I reside elsewhere off course He had said that ‘aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate’.

“aham isvarah sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese”- desh also means country isvarah stays in a country called heart ‘hrd-dese’ this is a desh there is a one nationality one country called hridaya heart and isvarah, isvara resides there. Sarva-bhutanam and only yantra mentioned by Lord in Bhagvat Gita is body is yantra and soul is riding on that yantra and yantra is made up of maya and wandering around and isvarah is also next to him.

‘tam eva saranam gaccha’ tam-eva who is tam? to that ‘isvarah sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese arjuna’, tam unto that Lord or ‘tam eva saranam gaccha’ gaccha- go because he is scared of me (laughter) Kamsa says because he is scared he is gone into cave in the heart of living entity he is hiding and Shiva is in cremation ground and Bramha is this he is talking about and his followers are doing all this flattery, o! you are such a hero and we are with you. You don’t have to worry about this Vishnu don’t worry about this. Ya, so even they knew where the Lord is residing.

‘tat-prasadat param santim sthanam prapsyasi sasvatam’ (B.G 18.62) So shanti sthanam the abode of peace is Lord is achieved as one surrenders unto Him. Now He says I am going to tell you ‘guhyad guhya-taram maya’ I have explained confidential or even more confidential knowledge unto you. You should contemplate ‘vimrsyaitad asesena’ take your time deliberate upon all that I have said to you and then ‘yathecchasi tatha kuru’. Yes I know you have minute independence I am not going to force you, you have independence so fight -not fight it is up to you. That minute independence so Lord is giving there’s a scope to exercise that.

‘man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru’ (B.G 18.65) now this is called guhyatamam this statement ‘sarva-guhyatamam bhuyah srnu me paramam vacah’ (18.64) Now I have spoken something guhya confidential I say something guhyatar- something more confidential but now I am going to talk guhyatamam the most confidential. And what is that most confidential thing? ‘man mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru mam evais?yasi satyamte pratijane priyo si me’ come to me and man-mana four times here. Lord says, you do four things but every time He says His name is attached, man mana your mind fixed upon Me. ‘Man mana bhava mad bhakto’ take notes of this mad bhakta, man mana mad bhakta become My devotee. Mad-yaji when it comes to offering offer worship, worship Me. Mam namaskuru and obeisance’s also unto Me.

So there is no room for speculation it’s very clear person who is standing before Arjun just remember Me. Become My devotee, worship Me and your obeisance’s unto Me. And if you did so then? Mam evaisyasi, you will achieve Me. And this is the truth and I promise and I well because I love you I like you Arjun. So you come back to me, I would like you to come back to Me. And for sure you will come back I promise this so as we said we can put ourselves in the shoes or in position of Arjun and Lord is talking to us. You will you will come to Me ‘mam evaisyasi satyam’ there was no need for Lord to say I am speaking the truth because all that Lord speaks is only truth and nothing else but the truth.

Trisatyam Lord is described by those demigods when Lord was appearing in Mathura those prayers. And then now “sarva dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja” so give up Christianity give up Islam is it saying that? Yes or no? Give up or not give up? Give up Christianity? No could it refer is it possible? They did not even exist. Buddhism is 2500 years old. Krishna did not say but well it’s a big subject matter.

(Devotee asking question) well quickly in the first chapter Arjuna is concerned about different dharmas. Jaati dharma this dharma that dharma and whole first chapter Arjuna is talking about different obligations towards society towards that. So Krishna is -give up that all those dharma’s because those dharmas were keeping Arjuna from battling or fighting those things were coming in the way of executing the will of the Lord, which is devotional service of the Lord. So give up all those dharma’s then He had said when appears ‘dharma samsthapanarthaya’ Lord had just said I appear to establish dharma and next thing He says give up varieties of dharma. So there is some distinction Lord appears to establish the principles of dharma but there are some principles which are to be given up or secondary but then dharma is mentioned OK give up all the varieties of religion then what do I do?. ‘mam ekam saranam vraja’ that is dharma ‘mam ekam saranam vraj’ that is dharma. And everything else that comes in between stops you from surrendering unto Krishna including demigod worship, karmakanda, jnanakanda, this kanda that kandakevala vishera bhand they are part of the shastras then finally there was Gita and Bhagvat we were hearing this morning.

“So Bhagvatam has made easy only Bhakti no other thing”

So goal is to come to the level of bhakti. Bhakta performs bhakti and achieves Bhagavan so that’s the dharma of the soul. The soul is bhakta he performs bhakti devotional service and achieves bhagavan is Supreme Personality of Godhead. So everything extra and all that neeti and morality and this obligation that obligation that has to be given up. Jnana mishra and karma mishra bhakti.

“anyabhilasita-sunyam jnana-karmady-anavrtam anukulyena krsnanu-silanam bhaktir uttama”.
“na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va jagad-isha kamaye mama janmani janmanishvare bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi”.

So this verse is also talking ‘na dhanam na janam na sundari’ this is no karma I don’t want to be karmi enjoy life this aspect that aspect and life and perform this yagya and get a beautiful wife and beauty or elevation to higher planets. I am not into that na dhanam this karma and karmi results of karma furtive activities which is part of dharma which is part of the sashtra, compete package it is there is listed. And then ‘mama janmani janmanishvare’ no karma no jnana ‘mama janmani janmanishvare’ I don’t want liberation either. I don’t want to be karmi furtive worker no karma no jnana and result of it liberation. Janmani janmani, I am willing to take birth I don’t mind taking birth but in each birth I would aspire for one thing and that is ‘bhaktir ahaituki tvayi’. Aspire for bhakti what kind of bhakti ahaituki tvayi no no motivation no ya it’s causeless devotional service.

So this dhanam janam this karma and this to mukti this is a part of a complete package of dharma. So some of these things are to be given up and that is ‘sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam’. So with this we will have to look at Quran as we look at Puran also. Some other things from puran are to be given up to go higher or to achieve the final destination Golok or Krishna’s lotus feet. So likewise we have to give up, Quran for sure they do stress on one, no demigods the cleansing is done some kind of ‘sarva dharman paritayajya’ and that aspect the demigod they did the marjanam, even at the time of Mohammad when he appeared they were worshipping some kind of 600 demigods they still have the list of 600. So they stress one of course impersonal for sure, they just have wall and they offer obeisances, there is no altar or no form.

‘mam janmani janmani ishware’ – I don’t want liberation, I am ready to take birth after birth, I don’t aspire to become liberated merge in Brahman, which is result of jnana, the jnanis are they have Brahman realization, merging into Brahman. Don’t mind taking birth but in each birth devotional service. Ok so this topic is big topic ‘sarva dharman parityajya’ this is the crux of the matter, in fact if this could be understood we should be understanding this thoroughly well this is like the essence. We should clear on what is Lord is talking about ‘Mam Ekam Saranam Vraja’.

Sometimes there is comment about this vraja, vraja means to go, vraj also means Brajmandal you go to Brajamandal. You take shelter of Braj and go to Braj. Give up all mundane material world just go to Braj, go to Vrindavan or go to Mayapur same. This Braj is equal to Mayapur and Braj non different. Love thy Lord with all their heart with all their strength. This is Bible, talking about love but then they also talk of, oh! Lord give us our daily bread. And Prabhupada said this is ofcourse that could be like “arto jijnasur artharthi jnani ca bharatarsabha” (B.G 7.16) 4 kinds of people come to me, those who are in need of artha some economic development.

So Srila Prabhupada was one time few of us were there in Mumbai and just before we were to leave for preaching he was explaining the difference that they pay to Lord O! God to give us or daily bread not pure. He appreciated at least they are approaching God but then he cited the example of Yashoda. Yashoda feeds bread and butter to the Lord. If He doesn’t come on time then she goes with a stick (laughter). Bread is ready butter is ready, instead you asking or begging give us daily bread, give us bread and butter. Here devotees says God eat bread butter.

So they are some seeds you will find in Quran and bible. Even 99 names of Allah are mentioned in Quran. That’s why when they chant on beads their beads have 99 beads not 108 because 99 names. But ‘namaste saraswati deve gaura-vani-pracharine nirvishesha-shunyavadi pashchatya-desha-tarine ‘. So trouble is with Hinduism included and Buddhism for sure and this Islam and Christianity this is all impersonalize voidism the karmi the karma you will find some karma in Puran and Quran as well. Jnana you will find there as well furtive activities. So in that sense this is to be given up, if the Hinduism is to be given up. I mean the essence of Hinduism is Krishna Consciousness. Whatever is not a substantial there is something secondary or something so those things are to be given up. And then you get something in return and that is ‘mam eka’, ekam-we. And we were hearing this morning they are so many incarnations of the Lord so Bhagavan but svayam Bhagavan is “ete camsa-kala? pumsah k?snas tu bhagavan svayam” (S.B 1.3.28). So there is difference between Bhagavan and svayam Bhagavan. So here svayam Bhagavan is ekam.

“Have you seen our Krishna?”

Krishna took temporarily form of Narayan and stepped in front of them and Namo Narayana they offer their obeisance and inquired, have you seen Krishna? And then this so called Narayan heard this enquiry, “have you seen our Krishna?” This Narayana could not maintain His position (laughter). So Gopis kind of dragged Krishna from Narayana He was just playing doing little drama in humors ways, He added some hands here and there. He had hidden his flute but when heard their enquiry, “have you seen our Krishna?” Krishna ‘mam ekam’ their Krishna had to appear and His hands were dropped off. Krishna takes His flute and played the flute. So ‘mam ekam’ and then ok He did not make any progress.

And then after that ‘mam ekam sharanam’ yesterday we were dealing with Krishna don’t preach to those who are not austere and at least four conditions were mentioned. Those who are not into devotional service, those who are not bhaktas, those who are envious to them do not preach. And then, but He says those who preach they become very dear to Me. And Oh! Dhananjay you have heard this with attentive mind. He is again enquiring Arjun all that I am talking now have you heard did you hear with attention? You are with Me? You are focused? He is enquiring like that. We also have to see whether we were focused. So is your ignorance and illusion now dispelled? And this will happen only when hearing was with attention, focused. Result of such hearing oral reception receiving Krishna through ears. Seeing Lord also with the help of ears, we don’t see much with eyes, see with the ears. So have you done this? In response to that Arjun says yes yes, I did it. And as a result now “nas?o mohah” we talked yesterday or day before about that but we have been talking “O! Infallible one, my illusion is now gone, I have regained my memory by your mercy this has happened”. And I am now firm and free from doubt and I am prepared to act according to your instructions and dialogue ends there.

So there is no need whole talk started in the middle of the battle early morning hours on Moksada Ekadasi day at sun rise time Krishna had to talk army ready to go conch shells are being blown. And then Krishna had to get into this conversation because Arjun Dhanurdhar he is dharurdhar but not ready to fight. But now he is ready to fight so no need to talk further so Krishna stops.

As soon as Arjun yes ‘karisye vacanam tava’ then everything has stopped. So officially the dialogue the samvad ends here between Krishna and Arjun and you could count sometimes someone has counted Dhritarashtra speaks once only and Sanjay spoke so many verses Arjun I think some 70 or verses are somebody saying 80? So sounds 70-80 I forgot the exact numbers so there is number like that and then Krishna has spoken over 600 verses and then Sanjay is another dialogue going on his dialogue ended Kurukshetra dialogue has come to an end but Hastinapur continue. So this Sanjay uvaca is talking in Hastinapur and ‘roma-harshanam’. And what is happening to him as he was hearing? The hair standing on end as I have heard this conversation then he says I was able to hear this conversation “vyasa-prasadac chrutavan” (B.G 18.75) you should take note of this Sanjay says I was able to hear because of the mercy of Srila Vyasadev because Srila Vyasadev gave that extra ordinary power to see and hear this was given to Sanjay.
He was ready to give it to Dhritarashtra himself but Dhritarashtra declined, no no if I see now I’ll be seeing distraction of my sons only. So better I remain blind then Vyasadev had given special vision power, doordarshan television to Sanjay and this is ‘vyasa prasadaC’ I was able to hear directly ‘yogesvarat k?snat’ directly from Krishna I have heard and as I keep hearing this samvad ‘adbhut samvad drishyami’ I am becoming very joyous, Jolly happy. I take great pleasure and punah punah again and again as I remember also remember that “rupam adbhutam’ hari’s form. He is coming to my mind. And vismayah wonderful “hr?yami ca puna? puna?” and I am enjoying. So these are the reactions responses of Sanjay who also was a witness to this conversation he was directly hearing and relating that with Dhritarashtra.

In the beginning Dhritarashtra enquired “Kim kurvat sanjay” First verse chapter one text one ‘O! Sanjay please tell me please tell me’. What did they do? So what did they do? Means who is winning who is losing the battle? So this is beauty of Bhagvat Gita the circle is getting completed. The note on the note that Bhagvat Gita started now it is ending on that note. And Sanjay is reply to Dhritarashtra he says wherever or you wanted to know Kim kurvat what is happening at the battle and I must tell this to you. And wherever this Yogesvar Krishna and this partha this dhanurdhatra there you will see 4 things ‘tatra srir vijayo bhutir dhruva nitir matir mama’ (B.G 18.78). As far as my mati goes my intelligence functions as far as I know the shastras and have done experience I must tell you this that who is going to be victorious who will win in the battle? Because battle is just now starting but he is ready to give the conclusion from his experience.

“Their victory is guaranteed”

Although this battle is going be won by? Arjun party. “Pandavas vijayastu pandu-putranam yesham pakshe janardana”. Vijayastu pandu putranam. So Pandu putra’s vijay is guaranteed. Sons of Pandu will be victorious why? Esham pakshe janardhana, Janardhana is on their side, so their victory is guaranteed. So this is wise man like Sanjay could from their experience their realization they could draw conclusion like this. And the first word of Bhagvat Gita is? “Dharma” last word is “mama” so this Bhagvat Gita is mama dharma my dharma. This is Krishna’s my dharma. I have given this dharma. My dharma is Bhagvat Gita. Laws of the Lord, dharma is laws of the Lord. Laws are given by Me in Bhagvat Gita from “dharma to mama”. First word Dharma last word Mama in between it is dharma mama dharma.
So “6 items of Surrender” someone could write 6 items of surrender? Who knows what are they one by one? Ok

Whatever is favorable you accept that’s first, of course listing is one thing it’s not easy to know what is favorable there could be big debates and fights on what is favorable

2) Whatever is unfavorable you reject. Kick out that’s easy right? That’s how it is again same thing discrimination determining what is unfavourable. Because mind is going to be playing big role always accept -reject ‘sankalpa-vikalpa’ at every moment mind is doing this. So above the mind is? Intelligence, and above that is soul and super soul. So with the help of Caitya guru and with the help of our superiors Spiritual Master we’ll have to come to right conclusions what is unfavorable for me. What is favorable for me? Food for someone could be poison for others. Each varna each ashram that quite of wide variety of list. Favorable list unfavorable acceptance rejection.

3) Having firm faith that Krishna will protect. We struggle even in does God exist? Then we have to get over that first. Does God exist? So not only god exists but He will protect us, that’s the sign of Surrender.

4)Krishna is only maintainer our only Visvambhar, Vishvambhar ok maintenance is also His portfolio G.O.D – He is Generator He is Operator He is Destroyer. So God Vishnu maintains Krishna maintains specially maintenance of our devotion not just feed our body which animal’s bird’s bodies are also fed and eating sleeping is going on. Our maintenance devotee maintenance is not just soap and toothbrush and life insurance these days you are working on. ‘Yogakshena vahavyam’ so it’s not just material needs but body mind soul has needs and maintenance.

5) Self surrender -full surrender, ‘atma nikshep’ OK what is atma nikshep? Fully surrender as per His wishes you act.

6) And on the top of that we have to be humbl
e, is that difficult? How big is the soul? Not big. By nature we are humble by nature we are humble but we take false position being centre of the universe.

Question: Is there difference between to maintain and protect?

One is maintain and one is protect are part of this, there is difference subtle difference.
Question: All these are symptoms of Surrender and one of the items there is surrender so what is the difference?
Answer: Fully surrender it says, yes Bali Maharaj surrendered everything surrendered everything other things are different from that being humble is also surrender. When the thief surrenders to the police, he agrees to surrender I am going to surrender my gun, I am going to surrender my stealing robbing tendencies and you just order me I will act as per your wishes and we’ll listen to you. So we are also some kind of culprits like that disobeying the laws of the Lord disobedient stubborn what not. So we want to surrender, our wealth also everything.

‘tvadiya vastu govindam tubhyameva samarpaye’ –all belongs to You
, lets offer back to You. Take humble position means also we are surrendering that ignorance taking a false position of being somebody “ishvaro aham” as soon as you become humble then ishvaro aham that bhava you have surrendered that bhava that attitude or false pride you are renouncing you are giving up kicking it is unfavorable also. You may say whatever is unfavorable you reject so this Ishwar bhava is unfavorable you also give that out. As you give it up you become humble is also sign of surrender. They are interrelated as they explained like that and the result ‘mam ekam sharanam vraj’ kind of surrender. “Sarvadharman paritagya” give up varities of religion or so called religion or secondary principle of religion give up.

So that is also giving up “anukulyasya sankalpah pratikulyasya varjanam” whatever is ‘pratikul’- against contrary ‘varjanam’- give up. So I think we have as I said we have a limit I think we have to now move on to the next topic. Of you doesn’t mind ok what is the next one?

“Substantiate the importance of surrender to Krishna through the bonafied Spiritual Master, coming in disciplic succession appropriate reference to the shastras”

Transparent via media is Spiritual Master

Transparent- what is transparent? You could see through you look at spiritual master and you see through him. Who do you see? Krishna he shows you Krishna or you see through him Krishna he doesn’t block your vision. Others could be acting like a cloud you are here and the cloud in the middle sun is other side and you don’t see sun anymore. ‘Krishna surya sam’ He is also like a sun Krishna is like a sun. So some people come in the middle especially women comes in the middle or men could come in the middle something comes in the middle and you are illusioned. Your ignorance and darkness you stop seeing, you go blind I mean one little entity is enough to keep, just see the power of maya. “balampashyame mayaya” Kapil dev said to mother just see the power of my Maya specially in the form of women “strimay yam” just one women or one men or someone he could be keeping you away from the Lord. But then Spiritual master comes in the picture comes in front of you and he doesn’t block your path or vision no illusion you see through him with his help everything becomes clear ‘cakhu-dan dilo jei, janme janme prabhu sei divya-jnan hrde prokasito’.Divya jnana transcendental knowledge is revealed.

So this is the Lord’s arrangement. With the help of this arrangement this is big part of dharma infrastructure the whole facilitation that Lord does so that living entity conditioned soul is freed sadhus and shastras acharyas. The Guru the Spiritual Master has a big role to play and Krishna says surrender unto Me, Prabhupada says there is no difference if Krishna says surrender unto Me and spiritual master says surrender to Krishna. He is not talking; this is as it is Bhagvat Gita as it is. For some other so called spiritual master may one day declare I am God, don’t look beyond me, don’t look through me, some one behind me. So then such so called guru has to be rejected. He is unfavorable sign of surrender whatever is unfavorable you reject. Again Bali Maharaj rejected Shukracharya he was not letting Bali Maharaj surrender unto Vaman dev he rejected spiritual master because he was acting low some motivated or not transparent. The importance of surrender could be the “tad viddhi pranipatena” (B.G 4.34).
So Krishna has personally recommended this, so this is Lords divine scheme strategy arrangement and there are different spiritual masters – Shiksha Guru, Diksha Guru, Vartmapradarshak Guru, Caitya guru variety. And each one is to be understood they have roles to play. Shiksha guru could be prominent in someone’s life and Diksha Guru he is a torch light of knowledge spiritual master. “tamaso ma jyotirgamaya” – get out of the ignorance go to the light.
That light is coming from Krishna. So that’s the role of spiritual master.

The forth topic is “Substantiate the importance of surrender to Krishna as ultimate conclusion of Bhagvat Gita”
With reference to some other Bhakti shastras importance of surrender to Krishna has ultimate conclusion of Bhagvat Gita. This is the conclusion of Bhagvat Gita. What is the conclusion of Bhagvat Gita? lot of time you say what ‘sarva dharman paritayjya’ the importance of surrender what is the importance of surrender? ‘ mam ekam sharnam vraja’- Surrender unto Krishna.

Is it important? How? Why? Freedom through Surrender in this material. ‘mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te’ again to me only ‘mam eva prapadhyante’- those who surrender unto Me only what happens? ‘taranti te’- they are liberated. Any other thoughts? Let us surrender this life anyway we have to surrender so why not surrender, begin surrendering get used to this surrender and then attain perfection. At the end will be forced to surrender whether you want to or not to you will be forced. So why not be wise and voluntarily surrender.
(Question by devotee) Surrendering unto Him “jnanavan mam prapadyate” more you know Lord more you will surrender unto Him, there is a connection. ‘jnanavan’ –one who is knowledgeable you will surrender unto Lord those who do not surrender what is their position?

“ye sastra-vidhim utsrjya vartate kama-karatah
na sa siddhim avapnoti na sukham na param gatim” (B.G 16.23)

(Question by devotee, Maharaj says Haribol!! Quite powerful logical). Even Demigod big big Demigods are surrendering unto the Lord. Bramha with the tears in his eyes prays to the Lord and he had committed some offence and he had comeback. Like that Indra also come to surrender he came with Surabhi Cow, he came to Godrum dvip. Bramha had come to Antardvip performing austerities then he was given this Haridas Thakur Bramha is Haridas Thakur position incarnation. So Demigods take the dust of Krishnas feet on the head, while Krishna who is around in the forest of Vrindavan taking care of the cows bare foot Krishna goes barefoot serving cows playing with his friends. The Lakshmi and the Demigod they seek the dust of Krishna’s feet take that on their head. In that kind of Krishna is nice wonderful Krishna He is serving cows, He is playing with His friends. Yashoda could chastise Him, knowing that kind of Krishna lot of people don’t know that Krishna, Vrindavan Krishna. Ok so it was nice being with you, talking to you.

Thank you.
Lokanath Swami Maharaj Ki Jai!!

We have obligation of spreading the Holy Name

Venue: Mayapur Dhama

Dated: 18th Feb. 2015

Occasion: Disciples gathering

Hare Krishna

This is our yearly Mayapur festival; you are all welcome to Mayapur. This is the best welcome final welcome in Dhama, no welcome is better than this. This is where you have to finally end up going back to godhead back to home. Srila Prabhupada founded ISKCON in 1966 and everything started from there.

Srila Prabhupada has revealed the dhama for us, acharyas revealed the dhama for us. Who knew Mayapur but now it has become world famous. There was a time when Mayapur was not known but now it’s known all over that’s speciality of Srila Prabhupada

Srila Prabhupada also revealed Caitanya Mahaprabhu for us and with that Hari was also made known to the world by Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada was that chosen Senapati Bhakta, Srila Prabhupada ki…….jai.

So dhama became known to the world and Holy Name became known to the world then Srila Prabhupada gave us ISKCON to prove the prediction of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
“prithivite ache yata nagaradi grama
sarvatra pracara haibe mora nama”
So this prediction was there but hardly any one ould understand the prediction, but Srila Prabhupada Understood ‘prithivite’ all over not only Bengal. Srila Prabhupada became the ambassador of the Holy Name. The prediction is the will of the Lord it’s not modis strategy or Obamas …its Lords strategy who could avoid it, stop it. So many places are antigod..this ism..that ism..materialism… Seeing is believing…pratyaksya vada.

So we start doubting but its Lord’s desire. So spread the Holy Name, Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Ishvar of Ishvar, Vaikuntha nayak, Jagannath, Guaranga Mahaprabhu ki jai…sleeping people can’t spread Krishna consciousness.

So you have assembled her, you have been touched by Guaranga..Guaranga…Guaranga. You have come in contact with Guaranga, Lord has identified you so it’s an arrangement of the Lord not accident. Its arrangement of the Lord it’s not an accident (Maharaj says I always say this). You are here for a reason, you the soul that’s what you are; you are not a lump of matter the dead matter. This Krishna consciousness is not for the dead matter it’s for the soul it’s for liberation of the soul from the body.

The mind has all the ideas of enjoying, the desire are there right in the mind. So first you come in contact with the Name then from Nama to Dhama that Nama brings you to dhama then you landed up here …nama to dhama

So keep chanting, Kirtan mela is also the reason why you are here. Mayavadi says Lord has no form so they are limiting Lord. Lord is everywhere. Srila Prabhupada revealed the dham for us he started festivals for us. Lord has form so we also have form, soul can talk walk this is how the soul participates in Lords Lila. So Lord had eternal abode, eternal form. So Srila Prabhupada informed the whole world about Mayapur Vrindavan jaganath Puri.

Pralaya does not harm the dhama. Markande muni found Mayapur intact at the time of pralaya. First festival in mayapur 1972, 50 devotees were present for the festival. Then Srila Prabhupada did 3 ground breaking ceremonies first at Mayapur then Vrindavan then Mumbai that was his vision all in 1972. (Maharaj says –In 73 I attended mayapur festival and then onwards..)

Srila Prabhupada revealed the dhama and brought his disciples here. Every year number of devotes is increasing. Srila Prabhupada said the Mayapur festival is like the matsya avatar…he was small in kamandalu then he became big then he was put in pond then finally in ocean. So Srila Prabhupada said our festival is like the matsya avatar now every year the number is increasing all buildings full, preaching is increasing then from nama to Dham.

So you are soul, you won’t realize in few minutes but as you progress in devotional life you will realize. So don’t just let your body grow. It grows as we grow in age and we become vayovrudha but important is becoming jnana vrudha becoming more realized. Prahalad Maharaj was jnana vrudha and hiranyakasapu was vayovrudha.

Green Coconut you shake you hear voice. Then as it grows it becomes separate from the cover. Detached from it, it’s in the shell but not attached to it. ‘You are of this world but you are not of this world’ good words to understand.

So continue chanting grow up do not remain a child, (Maharaj says) how cud I serve? One disciple was asking, I said chant you have taken vow to chant and read books, take association. We are sadhaka, there are 64 components of Bhakti if you can’t do 64 do 9 if you can’t do 9 do 5 of them. Sadhu sanga, nama sankirtan, bhagvat sravan, dhama vasa and vigraha aradhana and if you can’t do 5 just do chanting and if you can’t do that then forget.

Krishna conscious life is life. So propagate Krishna consciousness its nature of devotee to preach like ant they see one grain of sugar and they call all the ants come come and ant verses dog mentality.

So some Indians are not Indians ‘mere juta hai Japani patlun englisthani’. Devotees are real Indians, to make your life perfect ‘janma sarthaka kari karo paropakara’ –give- we have obligation ‘janma sarthaka’ by propagation of Krishna consciousness by all your talent.

So devotees go all around preaching that’s what you need to do in whatever state you are we have this obligation of spreading the Holy Name. ‘bharata-bhumite manusya janma haila yara janma sarthaka kari’ karo paropakara’ (Cc. Adi 9.41)

Hare Krishna

Why is not everyone attracted to Krishna?

“nyasta-kridanako balo jadavat tan-manastaya
krsna-graha-grhitatma na veda jagad idrsam” (S.B 7.4.37)

Translation and purport by Srila Prabhupada ki jai!

Translation: From the very beginning of his childhood, Prahlada Maharaja was uninterested in childish playthings. Indeed, he gave them up altogether and remained silent and dull, being fully absorbed in Krishna consciousness. Since his mind was always affected by Krishna consciousness, he could not understand how the world goes on being fully absorbed in the activities of sense gratification. Prahlada Maharaja is a big example of a great person fully absorbed in Krishna consciousness. In Caitanya-caritamrta (Madhya 8.274) it is said:

“sthavara-jangama dekhe, na dekhe tara murti sarvatra haya nija ista-deva-sphurti”.

A fully Krishna conscious person, although situated in this material world, does not see anything but Krishna, anywhere and everywhere. This is the sign of a Maha-bhagavata. The Maha-bhagavata sees Krishna everywhere because of his attitude of pure love for Krishna. As confirmed in the Brahma-samhita (5.38):

“premmnjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti
yam syamasundaram acintya-guna-svarupam govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami”

“I worship the primeval Lord, Govinda, who is always seen by the devotee whose eyes are anointed with the pulp of love. He is seen in His eternal form of Syamasundara, situated within the heart of the devotee.” An exalted devotee, or mahatma, who is rarely to be seen, remains fully conscious of Krishna and constantly sees the Lord within the core of his heart. It is sometimes said that when one is influenced by evil stars like Saturn, Rahu or Ketu, he cannot make advancement in any prospective activity. In just the opposite way, Prahlada Maharaja was influenced by Krishna, the supreme planet, and thus he could not think of the material world and live without Krishna consciousness. That is the sign of a maha-bhagavata. Even if one is an enemy of Krishna, a maha-bhagavata sees him to be also engaged in Krishna’s service. Another crude example is that everything appears yellow to the jaundiced eye. Similarly, to a maha-bhagavata, everyone but himself appears to be engaged in Krishna’s service.

Prahlada Maharaja is the approved maha-bhagavata, the supreme devotee. In the previous verse it was stated that he had natural attachment (naisargiki ratih). The symptoms of such natural attachment for Krishna are described in this verse. Although Prahlada Maharaja was only a boy, he had no interest in playing. As stated in Srimad-Bhagavatam (11.2.42), viraktir anyatra ca: the symptom of perfect Krishna consciousness is that one loses interest in all material activities. For a small boy to give up playing is impossible, but Prahlada Maharaja, being situated in first-class devotional service, was always absorbed in a trance of Krishna consciousness. Just as a materialistic person is always absorbed in thoughts of material gain, a maha-bhagavata like Prahlada Maharaja is always absorbed in thoughts of Krishna.

“nyasta-kridanako balo jadavat tan-manastaya
krsna-graha-grhitatma na veda jagad idrsam” (S.B. 7.4.37)

From the very beginning of his childhood, Prahlada Maharaja was uninterested in childish playthings. Indeed, he gave them up altogether and remained silent and dull, being fully absorbed in Krishna consciousness. Since his mind was always affected by Krishna consciousness, he could not understand how the world goes on being fully absorbed in the activities of sense gratification.

Big question, how world is going on? Why are people attracted to this or that? Because he was mad after Krishna, he was crazy after Krishna for Krishna, who is crazy, big question. They say we are crazy, we say they are crazy. So Prahlada Maharaja from the very beginning of his childhood, ‘nyasta-kridanako balo’ it’s a difficult thing. ‘bala avasta krida saktah yuva avasta taruni raktah vrudha avasta chinta magnah’, then where is your time. There are only three phases, stages of life; boyhood, youthful days and the old days and you have one activity that keeps you busy and that particular phase of your life Shankarachaya has made this observation ‘bala avasta krida’- you are a bala, you are a child balak and you are attached to the play, all that you could think of is play where are my toys and when would I get the holiday and I would run to the playground, meet my friends and have fun with them, this is during the childhood days.

And as soon as body grows young, young boys are looking for young girls and young girls are trying to find out where are the young boys. This is some kind of un-natural but natural in this world and then as you grow old, chinta-magna, you are totally absorbed in anxiety, you are taken away by anxiety about your future, when I leave my body, what will happen to my property and this and that. So, not to be affected by the play things, toys, when you are a child, not to be affected by young man or young woman when you are young and not to get into this anxiety business, free from anxiety, old age, that is Krishna consciousness.

And Prahlada Maharaja is just a little boy and he has no interest in playing. The children are playing all over the world; children are playing but he was not playing. One time I used to think only children in India must be playing, the western countries are so serious the scientific advancement and from childhood day they must be in the laboratories but then when I went to the west first time I saw children playing in the playground just like I played or other children, no difference whether India or over-seas. Then I joined, I was not a little boy, I joined Krishna consciousness and then my eldest brother brought me home back to the parents otherwise my mother would not survive, she had to see my face.

So as I was spending some days there, my friends would play and I would sit down there chanting my japa which I had learned from Giriraj Maharaj and my authorities in Bombay. I had spent only few weeks and my brother was there to get me. So by seeing that my friends were playing and I was there chanting Hare Krishna, my sister would be in tears crying what is happening, she couldn’t understand as Prahlada Maharaja couldn’t understand, how people are attracted to sense gratification. So my sister had hard time understanding what is this? Why is he not playing, why is he not playing? And he was jadavat as if dull, inert, not moving, he would just sit around just thinking of his Lord. tan-manastaya tat-manah, Krishna says mat-manah this says tat-manah, his mind in Him, om tat sat, tat tattvam asi- tat is Supreme Personality of Godhead. tanmaya – fully absorbed, mattah.

“mac-citta mad-gata-prana bodhayantah parasparam kathayantas ca mam nityam tusyanti ca ramanti ca” (Bg 10.9) with great pride Krishna is describing symptoms of His devotee, my devotee mac-citta – his citta is absorbed in Me, tan-manastaya – his mind was, Narada Muni describing the qualities of Prahlada Maharaja. Prahlada Maharaja’s mind was in Krishna into Krishna and this was because ‘krsna-graha-grhitatma’ – Krishna had become graha, Krishna had become a strong influence like a graha, a planetary influence. Prabhupada explains like a Saturn, Rahu, Ketu, specially people are afraid of Shani, they are specially afraid of Saturn, Shani that even in Braj mandal there’s a big Shani dev mandir and people come from Delhi, Agra, Jaipur everywhere big crowd, big crowd at Shani mandir, they come to Vrindavana, they go to Shani instead of making Krishna as their graha, Krishna the Supreme planet. Prabhupada in the purport says, Krishna the Supreme planet, Krishna ‘surya sam’ we say this, ‘maya hai andhakar, jaha Krishna taha nahe mahe adhikar’. Krishna surya sam, Krishna is what? Godhead is light, so that light, we get light from that Surya that graha that is Godhead, Supreme planet and the greatest influence Prahlada Maharaja has is of this planet, Krishna graham.

Wonderful selection of the word Krishna graha, Krishna has become, He is around, Krishna is around and He is influencing Prahlada Maharaja. grhitatma – he has taken Krishna inside him, grhitatma, he is absorbed in Krishna, Krishna is around him wherever he goes, that planet goes with him, planet is around him always influencing him doesn’t matter where he goes. Krishna graha is following him, he cannot be away from this Krishna graha. ‘krsna-graha-grhitatma’ – and as he is fully absorbed in Krishna, in Krishna consciousness, he is just a little boy and na veda – that is why he has difficulty understanding why other are attracted to something else rubbish jagad idrsam – this world is like this the way it is as he sees around, why is it like this? na veda – beyond his comprehension, why? Why is not everyone attracted to Krishna?

‘ya karsati sa krsna’- Krishna is that personality who attracts everybody but unfortunately some are attracted directly to Krishna, some are attracted to His external energy ‘mama maya duratyaya’ (Bg 7.14) they are attracted to maya, whose maya is it? Whose maya? Krishna’s maya they are attracted to. So they are attracted, good to be attracted, attracted by Krishna Himself directly not by His external energy. Such are the wonderful qualities of Prahlada Maharaja. I mean I should have said lot of qualities and then say such, we just said few but there are many more qualities we have missed, some of us we were not here just landed in Mayapur were deprived of those morning classes in Mayapur and devotees are listening to the good qualities, the best qualities of Prahlada Mharaja.

The devotee who asked me take class he said if I wanted to I could summarize the chapter. So I will not summarize the whole chapter just back into few verses where Narada Muni begins narrate the few qualities of Prahlada Maharaja. These are good morning hours, good morning and the mornings are to be spared to be reserved for remembering devotees like Prahlada Maharaja, remembering Personality of Godhead or His devotees. When there is a function, some seats are reserved there’s sign also ‘reserved’, so mornings are reserved, ‘pratah smarniya’ Prahlada Maharaja is pratah smarniya, worth remembering. As soon as you get up, you shouldn’t be thinking of some rascal, no keep those rascals out of your sight. Lord Krishna in Dwarka, He would go around seeing a cow, meeting a Brahmin, some gentleman like that. He would make sure while touring the wonderful auspicious objects He comes across a cow, better it is calf drinking milk, a person drinking water, person with full water-pot, not an empty water-pot. And make sure the cat doesn’t cross, when cat is running the ghosts are running behind him and they may capture us, catch up with us.

So the morning hours are very special hours, morning hour’s brahma muhurta these hours are foundation of the day. Foundation of day we build the day with the foundation of the morning. Morning is strong; yesterday we were talking also sadhana for the managers. Morning should be reserved by the managers fully absorbed sadhana, principles of sadhana that is remembering Prabhupada also. Ofcourse beginning with Prabhupada, ‘dhyayan stuvams tasya yasas tri-sandhyam vande guroh sri caranaravindam’ ‘dhyayan stuvams tasya yasas tri-sandhyam’- tri-sandhyam– pratah, madhyan and sandhya, three joints, thrice a day starting with the morning.

So we could spend little time remembering some other qualities that Narada Muni has mentioned, qualities of Prahlada Maharaja and when we say him Maharaj, he is Raja Maharaja not necessarily sannyasi maharaja, he was a king also he is prince now. He would be the king, so some of us assembled are administrators, managers so you could take some qualities, learn from the example or take these qualities inside us, imbibe these qualities that would help us to manage our little kingdoms, Pune kingdom or Calcutta kingdom, ISKCON this, ISKCON that these are all our kingdoms and presidents, managers, emperor, king, administrator.

Brahmanyah and also in few days time we will be celebrating because of such wonderful qualities of Prahlada Maharaja. Lord appeared to protect His devotee Prahlada Maharaja, just few days around the corners, more time we spend thinking of Prahlada then Narsimha would also protect us, very kind Narsimha dev ki Jai! He is very very kind. Radha Madhav becomes Narsimha and He is very very kind. Lot of things are revealed by mercy of Narsimha. “sridharah sakalam vetti sri nrsimha prasadatah” Oh! This Sridhar Swami he knows everything Lord said once when Sridhar Swami Maharaja, not our Sridhar Maharaja, the commentator Sridhar Maharaja he appeared even before Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Even Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had high regards for Sridhar Swami. So when he compiled his commentary on Bhagvad Gita, Sridhar Swami did, then he presented that to the Lord to the deity to review his commentary, I need some comments my dear Lord, please review my book.

So that time Lord made this statement, “Aham Vetti suko vetti” I know and Sukhdev Goswami also knows “vetti na vetti va” who’s that? Vyasadev ‘vetti na vetti va’- I am not sure whether Vyasadev knows everything or he doesn’t know as he compiled so many other scriptures also. Finally he came to final conclusion but for sure I know, Sukhdev Goswami knows, I don’t know about Srila Vyasadev but Srila Sridhar Swami knows ‘Sri nrsimha prasadtah’. Sridhar Swami was a great devotee of Narsimha that was his worshipable deity. Then our Sridhar Maharaja also became a worshiper of Narsimha and you know how fearless Sridhar Maharaja was during his last days, he had no fear of death, he was smiling in the face of the death.

“dehantara-praptir dhiras tatra na muhyati” (B.G 2.13) not bewildered but the change that was about to come Jai Narsimhadeva ki Jai! Narsimhadeva protects may all our managers be protected by Lord Narsimha but when we have qualities like Prahlada Maharaja then Lord has no choice but to protect us, we don’t even have to pray, He will do His duty, He knows Oh! here my devotee, He would be around you, around us wanting eagerly wanting to protect. So what are some of the qualities of..so we go back to the verse. “brahmanyah sila-sampannah” (SB 7.4.31) brahmanyah, Prahlada Maharaja was ‘brahmanyah’ – very cultured brahmin, ‘brahmanyah sila-sampannah’ – the best character, sila-sampannah, su-sila – money is lost -nothing is lost, health is lost- something is lost, character is lost- nothing is left, everything is lost. So he was the best character, sila-sampannah so much more could be said about each quality but we have to move on.

‘satya-sandho’ – always searching for the absolute truth, Prahlada Maharaja Haribol!! Always absorbed and looking looking looking where is where is He, satya-sandho, jitendriyah – jit-indriyah, conqueror of indriyas, he had conquered his senses, job becomes lot easier. it is a different life all together of those who are jitendriyas, sense controllers, lot of energy is invested in trying to control the senses and sometimes they go but those who have controlled their senses or even endeavoring to control, so we have succeeded to some extent and to that extent Lord is with us or reciprocating accordingly. ‘ye yatha mam prapadyante’ (Bg 4.11) sense controlled, “take control of your life, take control of your life” so that is jitendriyah- you have to become controlled and not something else is controlling, don’t push me around. You go to the west and they say ‘don’t push me around’, but his wine and girlfriend is always pushing him around senses are pushing him around, he must smoke now and he has to, he is pushed around he has to go buy a cigarette. Although he says don’t push me around but he is pushed around around all the time, don’t push me around, the way they say in the west. So jitendriyah, Krishna was pushing him around and nothing else was between him and Krishna, jitendriyah. ‘atmavat sarva-bhutanam eka-priya-suhrttamah’ (SB 7.4.31) ‘atmavat sarva-bhutanam’ like atmavat sarva bhutesu.

“matrvat para-daresu para-dravyesu lostravat
atmavat sarva-bhutesu yah pasyati sa panditah”

That person is a learned pandit person, ‘atmavat sarva bhutesu’ same thing
atmavat sarva-bhutanam – O! Others are like me; I would treat others as I would treat myself or others are me that’s me that person is me. The way I would like to be treated I would also treat that person like wise ‘atmavat’ or be concerned with his needs, his interest, and his concerns. Put yourself in that person’s shoes did I say it right? Put into other’s shoes and then you feel how you feel into that shoe. So Prahlada Maharaja this is his quality, as a manager we need this quality, understand others before we make a judgment about him. Be him, you be him ‘atmavat sarva bhutanam’, atmavat – I am him, it’s not a mayavad, we are all one but understand him, he is a individual, be personal not impersonal or neutral. Be personal each person is different and that goes on. ‘eka-priya-suhrttamah’ – the way Lord treats others he used to also treat them like Lord would treat them others, his treatment was not different from Lord’s treatment but he would understand how would Lord treat this person under such circumstances and then he would treat him accordingly. Lord would speak to him ‘dadami buddhi-yogam’ (Bg 10.10), taking advice from others, how should I tackle this one now, it’s beyond me now I can’t handle or I am bewildered like that.

So understanding and “dasavat sannataryanghrih” (SB 7.4.32) and if there were superior, so there are three things, three kinds of dealings of Prahlada Maharaja mentioned, if someone is superior then he would dasavat – like their servant respecting elders and being their servant. ‘pitrvad dina-vatsalah’ first it was atmavat then there was a dasavat, he made mental notes, very nice adjectives used qualities atmavat, dasavat, pitrvad dina-vatsalah there are some juniors, children, dependents then he would take the position of pitrvad like fatherly. He becomes elderly for them and treating them nicely like children are looked after, he is a father father figure, they are dependent on him. ‘bhratrvat sadrse snigdho’ and if they are equal then like a brother or a friend – sadrse, with the elders he become dasavat but the juniors he becomes pitrvad like a father and equals bhratrvat he takes the position of a brother or friend.

‘gurusv isvara-bhavanah’ and towards gurus isvara-bhavanah what is this isvara-bhavanah – saksad-dharitvena samasta-sastrair, isvara-bhavanah, saksad hari, well then at the same time, ‘saksad-dharitvena samasta-sastrair kintu prabhor yah priya eva tasya’ so he has good understanding, proper understanding of who is who and he deals differently, accordingly, appropriately with each person. ‘vidyartha-rupa-janmadhyo’ he is full of knowledge, he has lots of wealth also, he is beautiful and his birth he is a leader in that demoniac community, he is a leader. So inspite of all this he is equipped with so many qualities, he is free from pride. ‘mana-stambha-vivarjitah’ while Queen Kunti says ‘janmaisvarya-sruta-sribhir’ as soon as you have high birth, some learning, you have beauty then mana – you become full of pride and then you cannot chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. It’s very difficult for such person to utter Holy Name of Lord, I am from such and such family what do you know, I am wealthy person.

Sir take little Prasad! I approached once one gentleman he said just now going to hilton hotels just going to hilton hotel. So he refused prasad I am going to hilton hotel he thought this prasad is for poor people I am a rich person don’t you see my car I just got out of this car, don’t you see a dog here he showed I am not staying in some kind of hut. So with this you can’t take to Krishna consciousness, but that was not the case with Prahlada Maharaja, ‘nodvigna-citto vyasanesu nihsprhah’ (SB 7.4.33) and when there are difficult times, dangerous conditions, Prabhupada is translating ‘vyasanesu nodvigna varah’- not disturbed, undisturbed under the trying times difficult situations. “duhkhesv anudvigna-manah sukhesu vigata-sprhah” (Bg 2.56) Krishna in second chapter He says there’s every reason for you to get agitated, disturbed. But again there in second chapter Krishna is describing the qualities of munih, person fixed in Krishna consciousness, person in samadhi, what are the symptoms, please explain the symptoms ‘ka bhasa’ (Bg 2.54) – what kind of language does he speak? How does he sit? How does he eat? How does he walk? And then Krishna talks. Oh! whenever there are difficult times, such devotee absorbed in Krishna consciousness, ‘samadhi-sthasya kesava’ that’s one in samadhi absorbed in Krishna consciousness, ‘anudvigna-manah’ duhkhesv anudvigna-manah.

The same thing here Prahlada Maharaja also not disturbed by ‘vyasanesu dantendriya’ – he had complete control over his senses and intelligence, he had refined intelligence as a result he was ‘prasanta-kamo’ – prasanta – for him one who has controlled his senses, for him Lord is around the corner, Lord is not away. So ‘prasanta kamo’ – he has subdued all the lusty desires. Prahlada Maharaja had ‘rahitasuro ’surah’ he was born in asura family but he was free from asura qualities. Although born in demoniac family, he had no demoniac qualities and Prabhupada writes in purport – From this verse we discover that a man is not qualified or disqualified simply by birth. This gives us encouragement, we are also not necessarily born in a devotee family, born in less or more demoniac family and it seems possible even in such family we could have qualities like Prahlada Maharaja. Prabhupada is encouraging us, you don’t be discouraged, look example of Prahlada Maharaja, just have to take shelter of Narada Muni, listen to him or listen to Prabhupada, disciplic succession.

“yasmin mahad-guna rajan grhyante kavibhir muhuh” (SB 7.4.34) Prahlada Maharaja’s qualities are chanted, remembered by kavibhir, the poet, saintly devotees, they always remember his qualities. ‘yatha bhagavatisvare’ – and his qualities are like qualities of Supreme Personality of Godhead in minute quantity, his qualities are qualities of.., they exist forever in his devotee like Prahlada, Supreme Lord’s qualities exist in Prahlada like devotee forever. I am just running through this quickly, few more verses to go.

“sadhu-gatha-sadasi” (SB 7.4.35) whenever devotees get together and they want to make a list of great devotees, that place the name of Prahlada will appear, when devotees want to talk of great devotees so far, world has seen these great devotees, immediately Prahlada Maharaja’s name is there. Some of you were children, I remember also when I was child and I was immediately told story of Dhruva Maharaja, Prahlada Maharaja, who else heard these stories when you were just little children? Atleast from India side, not in Boston or New York, such stories were not going around but others born in Bharat varsha, immediately we hear the Dhruva Maharaja, Prahlada Maharaja, these are big names.

And “gunair alam asankhyeyair mahatmyam” (SB 7.4.36) So Narada Muni says what could I say his qualities are so many, innumerable qualities, you cannot make a list, big list, unlimited qualities, tasya sucyate – but one thing, one amongst those qualities that stands out is ‘vasudeve bhagavati yasya naisargiki ratih’ is naisargiki ratih- natural attraction for the Lord “vasudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogah prayojitah janayaty asu vairagyam jnanam ca yad ahaitukam” (SB 1.2.7) his attachment for Lord is so natural that I must tell, that I must say. Even if I don’t get to say all the qualities but I must point this out to you Narada Muni says, is he talking to Yudhistira Maharaja? Yes he is talking with Yudhistira Maharaja Rajan, my dear king, I won’t be able to say everything all the qualities but I must bring this to your attention, ‘vasudeve bhagavati yasya naisargiki ratih’ – natural attraction he had for his Lord.

Oh! Is your Lord everywhere? Ofcourse. In this pillar also? Why not? He didn’t even had to think; natural. Is your Lord everywhere? Yes Yes, in this pillar also? But this pillar is my pillar, this belongs to me, your Lord is residing here, not paying any rent nothing. And because Prahlada Maharaja had very spontaneously, yes my Lord is everywhere, in the pillar also and Bhagvatam says ‘bhasitum satya’ – to prove that words of Prahlada Maharaja were true, Lord appeared in the pillar. His devotee had said, Prahlada said my Lord is in the pillar, he has already said it, now I have no choice, Lord appeared on the pillar and He proved that His devotee’s words were true. Such a naisargiki ratih Prahlada Maharaja very natural. He was born with these qualities, this was his first nature.

As a result we come to the second verse: “nyasta-kridanako balo” (SB 7.4.37) even as a child, he would not play everyone else was playing. On the contrary he would stop other children from playing, hey friends come come and then he would get them to chant and dance during the school break when one teacher has left, another one is coming, he would become a teacher, he would go hey friends stand up stand up raise your hands Hare Krishna Hare Krishna.. and the others would chant. So he was stopping playing of others as Srila Prabhupada had stopped also our playing. We could have certainly done lots of other nonsense things like I could have, my parents wanted me to be an engineer by now I would have my own a motor bike and returned back to village with the bike to my parents.

But because Prabhupada also like a graha like a planet in our life he appeared and he changed everything, the whole direction changed. Whatever was due, the direction was set because of our karmas and Prabhupada appeared in our life and he also gave Krishna in our life, he gave us Radha Madhav, he gave us Narsimha, he gave us Prahlada Maharaja, his life, his teachings, his Bhagvatam all these are like a planet Krishna planets for us also. So more we expose ourselves to these sunrays of this Krishna graha then we will be purified as sunrays are purifying all the places where people pass stool, urine, sun is purifying sun is not contaminated from this, sun is purified.

So Krishna is there in the form of Radha Madhav, the deities, Krishna is there in the form of Holy Name for us, Krishna is as brilliant as sun “kalau nasta-drsam esa” (SB 1.3.43) people lost their eye sight in this age of Kali then Lord arranged this Bhagvatam- ‘puranarko adhunoditah’. Bhagavtam appeared which is brilliant as sun, it is another sun supreme planet Bhagvatam, prasadam is another Krishna, ‘swa-prasad anna dilo bhai’ Lord appears in the form of prasad. The dham is not different from Lord. So many of you are so fortunate that you could, we are just visitors, we are in and out but some of you have become permanent residents you are here, we come we go but you are always here, day after day year after year you get to be in the dham.

So by avoiding all the ten offenses at the lotus feet of the dham reside in the dham influence your life, our life, dham is another planet. So all these different features have been packet in package called International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Krishna is packed in different features and delivered unto us and in turn it is our duty to deliver this Krishna to others and others and others. So children will stop playing, young people will stop running after this or that one or there will no anxiety during old age. Nice time during old age till the last breath such is a life influenced by, if it is influenced by Krishna planet, Supreme planet.

Any questions or comments? Srila Prabhupada ki Jai!

In His absence the Age of Kali has spread its influence everywhere, so I am sorry to see this condition of existence and this is Dharni uvaca : mother earth has replied “I am sorry for this” that’s her. And even if it were possible to count the atoms after smashing the earth into powder, she replied here, still it would not be possible to estimate the unfathomable transcendental qualities of the Lord. He make all the water in the ocean, you make ink with that and then he make full earth planet could be your paper and write down, sky is your paper; you want to make sky in a paper? Some others make earth into paper, or make all the trees into their pens and then go ahead writing the qualities of Lord you will not see the end of those qualities; ‘anyeca’, the word ‘anyeca’, ete anyeca these qualities and many other are not possible to estimate unfathomable transcendental qualities of the Lord.

Krishna das Kaviraj he is describing Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s tour of Vrndavan and he has compiled the account in few chapters, he says I am done with it. There’s so much more to write koti, the word use is koti granths’ am writing one, but 10 millions scriptures could be written just to describe Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s past times in Vraj including all the emotions, the feelings, the dealings that he had with every creature moving in, jungam sthavar and he is also remembering may be Anantshesha Anant could take this project he has thousand mouths, he could describe. Anant also in the beginning of creation, he was given this task of holding the another planets and the universes on his hoods and then another task while you are holding all these planets you also glorify the Lord, begin talking, glorifying the task your sahastra vadan you could talk talk and then he said “how long do I have to keep holding all these planets?”, “not for very long”, “but how long?” Well as soon as you finish chanting all the glories, all the qualities, naam, lila you have covered and when there is no more nothing more to talk about then you could throw off those planets. “Oh that’s nice I can, I have thousand mouths and I have just now start and quickly quickly finish and I don’t have to carry this big burden. That is how Anantsesa was thinking and he started his project of recitation of unlimited glories and He chanted and chanted and He is chanting till the present and He would continue to chant till the time for pralaya would come and he would be still in the middle annihilation time.

So no limit to the unfathomable transcendental qualities and in front of that each mouth there is audience not that 2000 mouths same message or same thing is talking. (Maharaj asking) How many speakers do we have? couple? 2? 3? 1? (Laughter). So same thing; you go to each one of those two of those and same message comes out, same message, it was not like that; Anantshesh, he has thousand topics, simultaneously he has thousand, on thousand fronts he is glorifying the Lord and audience they go from one to another to another one just to check out what is else being talked about. (Ok, it’s coming up, I did not notice) It is said that Lord Anantdeva has tried to expand the transcendental qualities of the Supreme Lord with His numberless tongues, and that for numberless together it has been impossible to estimate the qualities of the Lord, this is for Anantadeva. The above statement of the qualities of the Lord is just to estimate His qualities as far as a human being is able to see Him. But even it is so; the above qualities can be divided into many subheadings. According to Srila Jiva Goswami, the third quality, intolerance of another’s unhappiness- daya intolerance of another’s happiness, Can be subdivided into (1) protection of the surrendered souls and (2) well wishes for the devotees.

In Bhagvad-gita the Lord states that he wants every soul to surrender unto Him only, and He assures everyone that if one does so He will give protection from the reaction of all sins. Unsurrendered souls are not devotees of the Lord and thus there is no particular protection for everyone in general. So Lord gives protection to those who surrender unto Him, “dharmo rakshati rakshitah”. This is arrangement of the Lord; Lord protects those who protect dharma. “You protect dharma and dharma in turn will protect you”, this was statement of Lord to His mother Yashoda. “Take shoes, wear shoes”. “No no cows don’t have shoes”, “Then take umbrella”, “Cows don’t have umbrella”. “Mother mother…”, Lord gave lecture to His mother, “dharmo rakshati rakshitah“. “You just have to take care of cows which is our dharma and everything else would be taken care of, would be protected, don’t worry mother. Let Me just take care of cows, let Me just protect cows and will be protected”.

Dharmo rakshitah. “Sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja” (Bg. 18.66), give up all varieties of religion and then what, “mam ekam shranam vraj” that is religion. Give up all other varieties and you go for this variety and that variety is mam ekam sharanam and this is paramo dharmo – supreme dharma, “bhaktir adhoksaje paro dharmo” (S.B. 1.2.6). For the devotees He has all good wishes, and for those who are actually engaged in loving transcendental service of the Lord. He gives particular attention. He gives direction to such pure devotees to help them discharge their responsibilities on the path back to Godhead. And Lord takes charge of that person, gives him direction, as He did, Narada muni gave instructions to Dhruva Maharaj in Madhuban just few days ago and because he was very anxious to meet the Lord and the Lord takes note of that, oh! this person is interested in Me and immediately Lord makes the arrangement “brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija” (CC Madhya 19.151) first we meet the devotees, Lord sends His devotees to us vartma pradarshak guru someone becomes vartma pradarshak, vartma? What is vartma? Path, pradarshak, pra darshak – shower, shower of the path, one who shows you the path.

Oh! Rath yatra is this way, temple is that way or what is the address? Where is festival? Little pushing in the direction of Lord and some other devotees also. Lord is equally kind to everyone and the sun is equal then shiksha gurus, and then vartma pradarshak, shiksha guru, diksha guru and chaitya guru, any other names? We are familiar with these four names, “amara ajnaya guru hana tara’ ei desa” (CC Madhya 7.128) Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, you all become gurus; one of these three kinds, not…Chaitya guru? No (Maharaj Laughs) there’s only one. Again you could have many shiksha gurus, there’s one diksha guru. Ya there are many who want to take advantage of sun’s rays, sun is available. Similarly, the Lord says that the surrendering unto Him is guarantee for all protection from Him, but unfortunately persons are unable to accept this proposition and therefore they suffer from all material miseries. So even though the Lord is equally well- wishing to everyone, the unfortunate living being, due to bad association only is unable to accept His instructions in toto, and for this the Lord is never to be blamed, Lord is doing His part, everything possible and you have to take some steps, some initiative, initiation, initiative.

Sun has come all the way to your courtyard and he has travelled billions of miles all the way from sun globe, the sun light and has come on the roof in the front, courtyard, there’s little shake hand; co-operation, other person is extending his helping hand, you have to raise your hand, he has made it he has extended. So Lord has done so much, He is doing, little initiative from living entities part he will be taken charge of by the Lord and His devotees could be taken under their wings they say. The hen as soon as there is some big bird in the sky the little chicks, we have seen immediately bird spreads its wings, 10 chicks, they are all covered, when we were little children we had seen this in our village and they are protected. Then hen is also watching, so dharmo rakshtih – protection is there.

Devotee association, you get more devotee association, senior devotee association and I am protected. He appears to be partial to His devotees, but factually the matter rests on living being to accept or reject equal treatment by the Lord. The Lord never deviates from His word of honor, “yoga-ksemam vahamy aham” (Bg. 9.22). And there was one faithless person he had no faith ,he was a Brahmin, he was even a Brahmin and Lord was not providing, what kind of Lord He made this promise “yoga-ksemam vahamy aham”, he had learned that verse by you know, kanthsth by heart he used to recite this all the time, but waiting and Lord not keeping His promise, he scratched that and said, “I don’t believe yoga-ksemam” and then he had gone out looking for something that he was in a need of. In the meantime procession coming towards his young boys playing and dancing entered the house of this Brahmin and their leader was very beautiful, somewhat bluish completion, wearing yellow garments. Oh! please take this, wife of the Brahmin, here is a gift for you, bye and walked out. His wife had noticed although very beautiful and charming, enchanting boy the leader of this group, but there were some scratches and blood is seen on His face also. So party goes profession and then Brahmin comes home, his wife was waiting, oh! Here is a gift for you, gift for you, open the gift and finds all that he was looking for.

Oh! Who gave this? And she describes. Oh! You know face of that young, sweet, and then this Brahmin realized, oh! That’s my Lord you were talking about and then just in morning I crashed that verse, I had no patience I was impatient to have this that and Prabhupada told this. So Lord never deviates from his word of honor. Who says that Lord does not honor or protect that doesn’t appear, he doesn’t do so because they do not call out like Draupadi. So there is one song, nice song “who says that Lord does not eat, log khilate nahi, people do not feed Lord like shabri had fed ‘Shri Ram’ or that wife of vidura, Vidurani had fed the Lord oh! That is the best meal of my life. I had never had such a food. So who says that Lord does not eat? Because they do not feed like Shabri, you know Shabri? You have heard about shabri from Ramayan, Ram visited some lower class society, she was waiting for Sri Ram, Ram will come to this part of the forest ‘danda-karanya’, finally Ram had come. Swagatam, su-swagatam Sri Ram please come big welcome, simple but grand, heart-grand, little rangoli was there. Have a seat, have a seat, no big thrown made up of gold or there were no jewels just little straw mat but the devotion that hospitality, intense, there was water and some fruits berries, she wanted to make sure the berries that she was goin to feed the Lord, they are the right kind, ripped and sweet and she would do little testing if it was ripe, sweet, ready to go then she would offer it to Sri Ram, vatsalya bhava and Ram, “give more give more”. There were no pine apples or fruits, just berries grown all around her hut.

So who says that Lord doesn’t eat? Because you don’t feed the Lord like Shabri fed the Lord, who says this, who says that because you don’t call out like Draupadi. When He gives assurance for protection, He promises that, His promise is executed in all circumstances. It is a duty of a pure devotee to be fixed in the discharge of the duty entrusted to him by the Lord or the Lord’s bonafide representative, the spiritual master. The rest is carried on by the Lord without a break. So Lord has his part and devotee has his part and Lord does He does His part, keeps His promise gentle man. What does gentleman do? Gentleman’s promise, promise is promise. So Lord keeps His promise that is part of His qualities, all these qualities, 40 qualities mentioned here, cleanliness, truthfulness, leadership, complete independence, what about us? When living entity tries to do that complete independence it gets into trouble. Depending on Krishna, depending on devotees of Krishna interdependence not independent, these are two extremes completely independent, and overly dependent. The middle path interdependence, depending upon each other, “bodhyantah parasparam” (B.G 10.9) and all that.

We cannot imitate the Lord in every respect, oh! Lord has His qualities, oh! He is independent, I am his part and parcel, I also exercise now my independence and soon as living entity goes for that option, “bhoga vancha kare nikata-stha maya tare japatiya dhare” immediately Krishna’s maya grabs him, hang him, and he is punished again and again by the death because of his independence, punish him, not only kill, but hang him, at the end of each life, what punishment, hang him ok so in this lifetime, what should we do? Hang him, “janmanam ante bahunam” (Bg. 7.19) “punarapi jananam punarapi maranam”, it’s a punishment for being independent. So all these qualities of the Lord, in Him reside all qualities, in us also, in a soul also, His qualities reside, minute quantity. His qualities are “yasyasti bhaktir bhagavaty akincana” (S.B 5.18.12) yasya asti bhaktih bhagavaty, what kind of bhakti? Akincana bhakti – one who has devotion, unto the Lord, akincana nishkincana, and “sarvair gunais tatra samasate surah” (S.B 5.18.12) and immediately that person is endowed, gifted with all these qualities, yasasiti bhakti, one who has devotion, bhakti for the Lord, immediately qualities of the Lord flows from Him to the devotees or qualities which are already there living entities being part and parcel those qualities are revived and he become also qualified.

Then he exhibits all this straightforwardness, faithfulnesses, knowledge, kindheartedness, magnanimity, all these qualities would be exhibited. But the apparently obvious these qualities were not visible in a human being’s beginning of Age of Kali and hence ‘socami’, I am thinking or I am lamenting hence my lamentation you know oh! Dharma oh! Bull and the cow, or having a dialogue in the beginning at the Age of Kali. Kali is now just now coming on the scene and already some symptoms are visible mother earth is concerned, worried and lamenting and that’s why she doesn’t look very happy. oh! what’s the matter with you? And she says yes ‘rahitam’ you know because He is no more with us, that Lord with these qualities is no more- rahitam. “socami rahitam lokam” (S.B. 1.16.30), rahitam is without Him and now this ‘papmana’ this Kali is appearing on the scene and is a store of all sins, Kali Kali what kind of Kali? Kalina papmanam – he is a store, he is a super bazaar, you name the item of sin, Oh! you have this sir? Sure, and what about that, he has all varieties of sins and is going to display all over the planet and so he is setting the scene. So Kali is encountered with this Kali by king Parikshit and you will be getting some places to reside in the kingdom he has one foot in the door and get me get me he is pushing the door and he succeeds in getting one foot some space and then gradually expands. Oh! 4 places you could stay “dyutam-panam striyah-suna” (S.B 1.17.38) and any more yes where there is corruption anything with artha laxmi fifth place then he was in business and he had all his strategy spreading all over.

Lord also has His strategy, ok I am leaving. “krsna svadhamo upagate dharma jnanadibih saha”, Lord has gone to His own dhama, He has taken dharma and jnana with Him, right? Dharma jnanadibih adi, what else? Similar items like this, He has taken them away and what happened? All these things were because Lord and light was there, Lord left, Krishna “surya sam” and as soon as Krishna was not on the scene, there was total darkness and “kalo nasta drasham esam”, people lost the eye sight, not that they had no eyes, they were seeing outside, they are seeing only outside, that looking within was not there kind of light inside was turned off ‘aham ajnana-jam tamah’- “tesam evanukampartham aham ajnana-jam tamah nasayamy atma-bhava-stho jnana-dipena bhasvata” (Bg. 10.11) the lamp that is lit within or Lord when He has special kindness and compassion, what does He do? ‘ajnana-jam tamah’ ajnana or something born from ignorance, and what is born out of ignorance? tamah – the darkness and kind Lord, “hey hey I will light the lamp” jnana-dipena bhasvata, jnana-dipe – He lights the lamp of knowledge. So when He left, He kind of turned off that light jnana-dip nothing inside, it’s all darkness. Kali has appeared, influence of Kali, ignorance, in brahma muhurta they are sleeping, what time is mangal arti? 9:30 in the morning where am staying not far away from here there is a temple where every morning mangal arti is 9 o’clock you could tell, close your eyes, tell me which Age is this possibly could be when mangala arti is at 9 o’clock. You could close your eyes and say oh! this must be! Sounds like Kaliyug.

So when Lord has departed and there is a transition, the new age, the new season as Prabhupada calls it. It looks like a new season, the climate change in last few days, in the morning the climate change new climate. So like that, transition from one age to another and Kali is appearing, so from Lord’s side all arrangements also been made for those sincere souls and sincere seekers there is an arrangement even in this Age of Kali, now Bhagvatam appears. “purana arka uditaha” brilliant as sun, Bhagvatam appears, Lord departs and Bhagvatam appears another things also appear. As the Kali appears, then not only this dharni in the form of cow was lamenting, bhakti devi was also lamenting, bhakti devi and jnana and vairagya and that whole team and (I am just reading) Narada muni says “vrutha khedayase bale aho cintataru katham” (Srimad Bhagvatam Mahatya 2.1) don’t lament, no cause for lamentation. “Sri Krishna caranam bhojam smara dukham gamisyanti”. You just remember the lotus feet of Sri Krishna caranam bhojam smara, very clean instruction clear and dukham gamisyati, “tvam tu bhaktih priya tasya satatam pranato adhikah” (Srimad Bhagvatam Mahatya 2.2). You are very dear to the Lord, even dearer than His own pran “tvaya ahutastu bhagavan yati nichagrahesvapi” and Narada muni says, “you know, if you appeal to the Lord, He is ready to go anywhere, everywhere, “tvaya ahutastu bhagavan yati nichagrahesvapi” nicha- fallen “yavanah khasadayah abhira kirata pulinda pulkasa” (S.B 2.4.18) and this and that and this country that country so ‘nicha graheshuapi’. Lord is ready to go wherever you want, O! Lord please come this way, this house, come to that, come to that, you are ready to.

Then Narada muni says, “badhva anjalim tvaya prustam kim karomi iti cha ekada” (Srimad Bhagvatam Mahatya 2.6), ekada: once upon a time, you ask that Lord, my dear Lord badhva anjalim, you had your hands folded and enquired prustam “tvaya prustam kim karomi” anything I could do, my Lord for you? And Narada Muni says, Lord responded “mad bhaktan poshaya iti ca”, madbhaktan poshaya – you nourish my devotee, make them healthy, you become some kind of tonic for them and then “angi kruta tvaya tad vayi prasanno”. Lord was very pleased with you then He, He gave two sons to you and that was jnana and vairagya, “muktim dasim dadau tubyam” and gave one maid servant also He added maid servant to you entourage and what is that made servant? “muktim dasim dadau, muktim dasi dadau” He gave mukti as your dasi, so mukti becomes dasi of bhakti. Lord has made that arrangement, “jnana vairagya kamimo”, those jnana vairagya are sons and we conclude here, then in “kalinasaddrasa koapi yugo nasti varanane”. Narada Muni says “oh! My dear bhakti devi you know”, “ya ya please tell me what, what is it?” “kalinasaddrasa yugo nasti” there is no Age like Kali, not in bad sense. It is very good time, this is the best of the ages. Oh! Vranane-bhakti devi ““kalinasaddrasa koapi yugo nasty”- there is no other age like the Age of Kali and then we have devotees like Narada muni, their determination in this Age of Kali, all this difficult times, adversities and challenges and this and that all the symptoms of Age of Kali. Everything all odds against, but then Narada muni says “tasmin tvam sthapishami” tasmin tasmin means that is what Kali yuge tasmin, this kind of Kali yug “tvam sthap ishami”, I will establish you. Where? “gehe gehe jane jane”, gehe gehe – in every house, I will establish you. “gehe gehe jane jane” in every person, this is my vision, this is my target. What is your strategy sir? Narada muni says: “annaya dharman tiraskritya”, you have heard this before? Very nice “anyadharman tiraskritya puraskritya mahotsavan”. tiraskritya – I will abandon, I will discard all other dharmas or processes in this in all other strategies, puraskritya – keeping in front of Me, I will accept that strategy, and what is that? mahotsavan, mahotsav “festivals, I will organize festivals, “bhakti nrityati yatra cha” where bhakti will dance, where you will dance as she does in Vrndavan, in festival bhakti dances.

So this is with organizing festivals, Srila Prabhupada has taken this seriously. When Prabhupada started his International Society for Krishna Consciousness, knowing what promise he had made to Bhakti devi, what kind of vow that he had taken, Srila Prabhupada had adopted this formula, utsavan, Sunday festival, and this festival, and Janmashtmai festival, and what other festivals? Hare Krishna festival. I joined the movement because of Hare Krishna festival in Bombay and Prabhupada was travelling all over India with Hare Krishna festival, chanting, dancing, feasting in festivals and sending parties on the streets everywhere and various kinds of festivals, morning program is like a festival, like a festival. Where there is a festival, there is a feast or where there is a feast there is a festival. And then Narada muni says, “tada naham harer daso, loke tvam na pravartaye” if I don’t do this, and I am ready to give up my “hari dasatva”, it is not possible to do that but he says, I have jata but I’ll shave off, I will throw away my veena or grow beard or something to fast to death, I’ll not take sweets. If I don’t succeed in doing this, here a point he’s making, “tada na aham”, if I don’t do this what I have just said, then “harer daso na harer daso loke tvam na pravartaye” if I don’t follow this, then no harer daso, then I can’t claim myself to be a Haridas, Hari’s das, Harer das. We will stop here; ok thank you very much

Srimad Bhagvatam ki jay!!
