Bhakti is pure and includes love with God and His devotees

Venue: Yavatmal (Maharashtra)

Dated: 6th June 2017

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu started the sankirtana movement.sankirtanaika-pitarau

pitarau means two – Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu. Caitanya Mahaprabhu was Krsna and Nityananda Prabhu was Balaram. Caitanya Mahaprabhu was Ram and Nityananda Prabhu was Laksman.

They appeared in Bengal. The Lord comes for ‘dharma sansthapan’, for re-establishing the principles of religion.Caitanya Mahaprabhu propagated religion by the process of sankirtana. For this Maha Vishnu, Narada Muni, Radharani and team appeared with Him.
He established the dharma of ‘kaliyuga’. i.e. the Sankirtana movement.

We are not Hindus. God did not establish Hindu or Muslim or Christian. The Muslims said that people who resided on the banks of the Sindhu River are Hindus. Gita or Srimad-Bhagavatam or the Veda/Puranadoes not have the name Hindu. Dharma is either Bhagavad dharma or Varnasrama dharma or Sanatana dharma. For Kaliyuga the dharma is Sankirtana dharma.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu is God. He is Krsna. He descended to deliver us and for the upliftment of the conditioned souls Caitanya Mahaprabhu together with NityanandaPrabhu established the sankirtana movement.

Then 400 years later Srila Prabhupada took the task to spread this message.Srila Prabhupada preached alone in New York’s footpath at the age of 70. He had no associate, but as soon as Srila Prabhupada did kirtana, people were attracted.
Hare Krishna is God. This is Radha and Krishna.“j?v j?go, j?v j?go, gaurac?nda bole”
Who is calling? Gaura Chand (moon). “Get up!” He calls with the Hare Krishna mantra. He is telling us to take shelter of the Holy Name .

Srila Prabhupada started to preach all over the world, spreading the Dharma, the dharma of the Hare Krishna mahamantra. Now this preaching has reached Yavatmal. Lord Krsna has reached Yavatmal in the form of the holy name. An Avatar (incarnation) took place. The appearance of the Lord happened in one place, but Harinama appeared in all places for all persons. Each person has an avatar for himself/herself. We have to experience the feeling – anubhav, bhagwad sakshatkaar. This realisation or anubhav that Harinama is the avatar for this age is our goal of life.’I will see Krsna in this body with these eyes.’ This is the goal of life. It should be realised that HARE KRISHNA is Lord. Our Human form is for the realisation that the name is cintamani, the wish fulfilling stone. This is raskhaan (the mine full of mellows), this realisation that God and His Name are one, this realisation is the goal.

For this realisation we have to do sadhana throughout our life. To understand that Hare Krishna is Radha Krishna. For this the devotees are bringing on behalf of Srila Prabhupada, Parampara, Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the Bhagavad-Gita, Srimad-Bhagwatam. Through these scriptures they are giving us the Hare Krishna mahamantra.
We do say that you should take the name. At the same time, we also guide you on how to do sadhana as per the sastra/scriptures. You are given all the do’s and dont’s.
There are 10 offenses against the holy name. By doing Japa with offenses we cannot realise God in the name. It has to be realised that the Name is nectarean. When we realise nectar, we are avoiding offenses. Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu (Nectar of devotion) is a guide on how to do japa. You all are becoming sadhakas, so you have to learn the 10 offenses to the holy name.

The 1st offense is sadhu/bhakta/jiva ninda or blaspheming the devotees who are propagating the holy names of the Lord. So chanting with blaspheming will not bear any fruit. It can take lifetimes with blasphemy. But we do not want to wait. We need to do something urgently. For example in business we want immediate profit, not that profit will come after lifetime. Similarly Hare Krishna is like a business. So the profit of japa is Love of Krishna and returning to the abode of the Lord. We do not want to stay here.

So there are 9 more offenses.
Kali means age of quarrel & hypocrisy (pakhand, tanta, dhong). Wherever there is quarrel and hypocrisy, there is the existence of Kali. We do not want kali in the Hare Krishna movement otherwise this will also become a den of kali. We HAVE to keep kali OUT . For this the progress has to be there – naam ruchi, jiva daya, vaishnav seva. We all are vaishnavas and we will progress. If hatred(dvesha), jealousy(irsha), blasphemy(ninda) is done in the Hare Krishna temple, it becomes like the general world. Drain this out and take shelter of Krishna (mam ekam saranam vraja).

Caitanya Mahaprabhu said to always do japa. To make this continuous chanting possible Caitanya Mahaprabhu instructed – t???d api sun?cena taror api sahi??un?/ am?nin? m?nadena k?rtan?ya? sad? hari? – become humble, tolerant. Do not expect respect and always give respect. This will help to constantly chant the name of God.Caitanya Mahaprabhu has an expectation in Yavatmal, that all do sankirtana. If we always want to kirtana, follow the instruction of Chaitanya mahaprabhu.. And then those who regularly do kirtana will be glorified like how Hanumanji was glorified.Ravana also took the name of the Lord but with a different attitude. Thus glories came to Hanuman’s side and defamation to the side of Ravana (vikhyaat versus kuvikhyaat). There is so much difference in the character of Hanuman and Ravana.

You spread the glories of the holy name. Glories as in Srimad-Bhagwatam, Ramayana, Caitanya Caritamrita, etc. is to be spread all over. People are sad and this is a BIG problem. Lots of miseries are there – adibhautik, adhyatmik, adidevik. All are troubled by these miseries. Only the devotees know this. Yavatmal residents will be benefited by spreading the glories of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. We will be purified by taking prasada. We will do cow protection.Even in China people are taking to vegetarianism. No intoxication
No illicit sex. Not following this is creating many problems. Men should follow the vow of a single wife and women should be pativrita (chaste )No gambling. These 4 are the dens of Kali. There should be no talks of what is in the mind ( man ki baat) but talk of Krsna.

There are as many number of roads as there are number of opinions.Having our own opinions without a base is cheating. This cheating is also gambling. So Krsna’s opinion has to be followed. Everything else is gambling. Therefore Srila Prabhupada gave us Bhagavad-Gita As It Is.This movement of Srila Prabhupada is very, very Important.
It is really good that everyoneis connecting. The Hare Krishna population is increasing, and this is good indication that Krsna’s opinion is being followed.

Srila Prabhupada said that Purity is the force. So this Hare Krishna movement is to be kept pure, in the mode of goodness. Raja guna (mode of passion) divides while satva guna (mode of goodness) unites. So to keep united we have to come to the mode of goodness.

‘He is mine, he is not’ is low class thinking. This type of thinking is not Krishna Consciousness. So purification is needed just as water is to be purified to keep diseases away.

Bhakti is pure and includes love with God and His devotees. Keep this in mind. You are all volunteers. Quantity increase should be complimented by increase in quality to decrease the influence of MAYA(illusion). Yavatmal volunteers should avoid the influence of Kali.

Love devotees!

A kanistha (low level) devotee is one who loves God, but hates devotees. Get promoted to madhyam (middle class) and Uttama (High class) devotees by loving God and loving devotees. A 3rd class devotee is one who hates. We do not want 3rd class devotees.

Hare Krishna

Attitude towards Vaishnavas

Thank you for this opportunity that we have today with you. You are all Bhakti Shastris, Bhakti Shastragya meaning also like you are scientist. One who knows the Shastras – Shastragya . ‘Gya’ means one who knows, Shastragya:-one who knows shastras is scientist; this is yet another vaishnav definition for understanding of who is a scientist.

“yah sastra-vidhim utsrjya vartate kama-karatah
na sa siddhim avapnoti na sukham na param gatim”
(Bhagavad Gita 16.23)

Lord Krishna says: One who discards all the shastras and he is busy doing activities but he has given up all the shastras abandoned, that person “na sa sukham avapnoti” that person will never ever be happy, what else? ‘na sukham avapnoti’ (in audience param gatim) ‘param gatim’ and there is one more (in audience) ‘na siddhim’- No perfection, no happiness, no final destination is achieved by those who reject, abandon, discard the shastric injunctions. Now you have become shastragyas you are scientist, I am happy I am able to meet scientist or social scientist here in Mayapur. You are completing now your 3 more days to go and you are done with it. Now is a time to apply the knowledge science that you have been studying, what you are studying Upadesamrta like that Isopanishad, Nectar of Devotion and Bhagavad Gita.

I think one year I taught Isopanishad and of course you were not there and then another year I had taught something else. So I have been asked I am given some homework today and next 2 days.
You need 7 attitudes towards Vaishnavas (Students handbook page 110)
Learning objectives it says at the top,
Discuss appropriate attitudes towards senior devotees in temple who have not completed Bhakti Shastri degree.
You have and they haven’t and you are back to the temple and you are in the midst of those devotees or you are the only one who has done the Bhakti Shastri. You are the one carrying your certificate hanging around your neck (laughter). Some big accomplishment to have a degree in Bhakti Shastri, not a small thing. So then what should be your attitude towards or in the midst of all those other devotees who haven’t done Bhakti Shastri?

With reference to Shri Isopanishad mantra 10 it says:
“anyad evahur vidyaya anyad ahur avidyaya”

One result is derived from the culture of knowledge and that a different result is obtained from cultural nescience that’s ignorance. In the purport Srila Prabhupada writes: In a modern society even a boy thinks himself self sufficient and pays no respect to elderly men. Due to wrong type of education being imparted in our universities boys all over the world are giving their elders headaches. Elders are getting headaches from the boys and girls also its not mentioned here. They give headaches to their elders so you understand what is expected from you. These are mundane universities and modern society and they what they cultivate is ignorance (avidya).
‘anyad ahur avidyaya’ – cultivation of vidya is one and cultivation of avidya is yet another one.
So what you had been cultivating is? Vidya not only vidya but Rajvidya: the king of knowledge.

“raja-vidya raja-guhyam pavitram idam uttamam” (Bg. 9.2)

Uttam-‘tam’ means ignorance, utt – means above, beyond, at the top. Uttam: beyond ignorance that’s uttam. No tinge of ignorance means full of knowledge. In other words, uttam means full of knowledge which is devoid of ‘tam’-devoid of ignorance. So, you had been cultivating not just vidya but raja-vidhya. So, those who cultivate avidya, they give headache, those who cultivate vidya they should be giving what? Some soothing bam, some relief to the elders or other vaishnavas some of them also for sure are going to be senior to you.
So, what should be your attitude?

What you should be thinking now with all this vidya in your head?
What you should be thinking of others?
How it should be dealing with others?
Your relationship with others?

Oh!! You have answer, okay! What kind of help you would render? “SERVICE”, don’t give headache at the head but at the feet (laughter) serve them.
What is the outcome of vidya? Knowledge you cultivate what does that do?
Humility, very good!! Amongst other things what you achieve is the humility. If you want to take note there is a statement in that shastras that says
“vidya dadati vinayam”
Probably you have heard this, Vidya –that’s vidya, dadati -that gives, vinayam- that is humility. Vidya gives humility, it also says

“vidya vinayen shobhate”

Shobha means beauty, one becomes beautiful his beauty is enhanced, as he cultivates vidya and then he is full of humility. That humility is the beauty of the person, he looks beautiful. “vidya vinayen shobhate” you learn vidya -Bhakti Shastri and you study this shastra that shastra you become humble. And that’s the decoration that’s alankar, sadhu bhusan- sadhu abhushan, “sadhavah sadhu bhusanam”.
“titiksavah karunikah suhridah sarva-dehinam
ajata-shatravah shantah sadhavah sadhu-bhusanah” [SB 3.25.21]
Titiksavah, karunikah, ajata-shatravah, shantah sadhavah sadhu-bhusanah- ornaments. So humility is one such ornament. So this is what one should be going back with, returning to your respective temples or homes, towns, countries. What is a reward, award, ‘You Have Become Humble’ -Humility.

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said:
“trnad api su-nicena taror iva sahisnuna
amanina mana-dena kirtaniyah sada harih” (Sri Siksastakam-verse3)

Even this is also result of cultivation of knowledge, vidya, titiksavah- becoming tolerant and “trinad api sunicena”- humble, “amanina mana-dena”- you are ready to give all respect to others and how much respect for yourself? Some give and take should be there (laughter). But Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says only give. Normal policy is taking only, normally you like to take everything, take respect, not give anything in return. But Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says don’t expect anything in return- just give- keep giving.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has himself given commentary on Sri Siksastakam at the end of Chaitanya Caritaramrita last chapter called Siksastakam. And in association of Ramananda Raya and Svarupa Damodar like Personalities, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu- He says one Siksastakam one verse and he talks just brief few comments. So comments to this “trinad api verse” Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says

“uttama hana vaisnava habe nirabhimana
jive sammana dibe jani’ ‘krsna’-adhisthana.”

That person becomes nirabhimani, abhiman is pride, nir – no, becomes pride less- not puffed up. There is the puffed rice and then there is another kind of rice is chipped rice (laughter). Nirabhiman, “jive sammana dibe” and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says person gives sammana to other jivas, other entities why? He is giving reason why! Says “jani krsna adhisthana”. Knowing that the other souls they are situated in Krishna or other souls are Krishna’s souls, they are Krishna’s, Krishna’s people, they were just separate, they had nothing to do with God or Krishna then you may punch their noses. But knowing that they are Krishna’s people, Krishna’s devotees, they are situated in Krishna, grounded in Krishna, sitting next to Krishna, knowing this person always respects others, that’s Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s reason.

So this is part of the knowledge so not only knowing Krishna, but
“vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyo” (B.G 15.15)

Vidya, Vedyah and Vidavan- three factors, vidya is knowledge, vedyah is object of knowledge and vidavan is one who knows, one who has cultivated the knowledge is vidavan. So by now it is expected that you are all vidavan. Vidavan – Vidya has gone in you, now you possess vidya, vidavan like Bhagavan and this van and that van and Jnanavan . You are full of vidya, so you are vidavan. So Krishna says with vidya one understands me.
“aham eva vedyo”- I am to be known, so knowing Lord is then complete when we also understand energies of the Lord “vividhaiva shruyate”. Vividhaiva- Lord is full of potencies. He is potent with potencies; He is Shaktiman because He has lots of shaktis. And to know His shaktis -His energy is part of knowing Lord. So, living entities is shakti of the Lord ‘tatastha shakti’ of the Lord. And that shakti is very dear to the Lord. We have to know this, not we know only that

“mamaivamso jiva-loke jiva-bhutah sanatanah
manah-sasthanindriyani prakrti-sthani karsati” (BG 15.7)

Knowing verse sitting right in your kantha called kanthasta, where are the verses in kantha- kanthasta- well versed. They are sitting in your kantha ready to go but they need to be brought from kantha to the heart –‘hridayastha’ from kanthasta to hridayastha.

From the heart then ‘hridayangam’ – then assimilation, not just accumulation information accumulation but that information assimilation so that there is a transformation. So why should we respect that living entity we are surrounded by living entities all around? That also we have to find out when as one studies shastras and becomes vidavan by studying vidya -rajavidhya then this is part of the knowledge.

Knowing Lord and knowing Lord’s energies knowing Lord’s souls -anshas. Lord is anshi and living entities are ansha. Anshi is full ‘purnam’ and that purna Lord has anshas- parts and parcels. But they are His parts and parcels and they are very very dear to Him, they are very dear to Him. So, they are to be respected.

“aham eva vedyo” I am to be known, this has to be expanded. I am to be known, that I Krishna includes His shaktis, His energies, especially energy that is to be focused is his living entities, His parts and parcels we should take note of this. They exist and they are not just piece of dirt that you could just kick and push and pull and they are His and they are very dear to Him.

“sadhavo hrdayam mahyam” sadhus are in my heart , I am in their heart, they are in my. So, I think we are going to be making more general presentation of this “attitude towards Vaishnavas”. There are 5 different parties mentioned here.
1. Towards senior devotees in the temple.
2. Discuss appropriate attitude towards vaishanavs outside ISKCON.
3. Viewing Vaishnavas who have fallen down.
They are all living entities, they are in different categories, in different situations, different body, different country, different institutions and very different sampradayas, even different age groups and genders could be different but they are all living entities and attitude towards them.
So fallen ones and again return to practice of devotional service and then with reference to (Bhagavad Gita 9.30) “api cet su-duracaro”.
4. Importance of maintaining proper attitude towards Vaishnavas in regards to future development of ISKCON and their own spiritual life.

So like that there are different angles, perspectives thrown in here. So they are all living entities and they are living and they are Krishna’s entities. Krishna’s parts and parcels that makes them very special so they are to be respected, honoured. And this is expected from person in knowledge, one who has cultivated knowledge.
Krishna is talking of “panditah sama darsinah” (BG 5.18) what is pandit? Pandit is one who is in knowledge. In Vrindavan they call them Pandas, Vrindavan pandas, they are suppose to be Pandits means knowledgeable. Hence they could guide you also, take you on a tour of Vrindavan. They know Vrindavan, they know Krishna. They are dhama gurus.
So, “panditah sama darsinah” So, what is a qualification of that Pandit? that Krishna describes as:
“vidya vinaya- sampanne brahmane” (BG 5.18)

Infact to call someone a pandit or Brahman or vidavan, “ vidhya vinaya sampanne”.
Sampanna means equipped, not only he has vidya but he also has vinaya.
“Vidya vinaya sampanne”

We are troubled with the conditioning, we are conditioned souls, we are trying to get out of that conditioning but conditioned person, as soon as he gets something, gains something, possesses something, immediately that’s the trouble part. Even if it is vidya immediately we become proud of. Even popper is proud of, he has just few pennies but he becomes proud of pennies. From penniless to few pennies he becomes proud. You acquire knowledge, you have some beauty and you have some high percentage and what else, shruti, shreya, aishwarya, janma. These are the causes also that Kunti Maharani is talking, immediately one becomes attached and proud and he wants to displays his janma and his beauty and his education part, Bhakti shastri degree. Yes! This is challenge, how to acquire knowledge and not to feel we have it or infact this knowledge will do its part, if it is cultivated properly knowledge will reward person with humility.

“Vidya vinaya sampanne”

Then brahmane, then he is looking at Brahman, he is looking at cow, is looking at chandal “sva-pake ca” (BG 5.18) dog-eater and he is looking at elephant, he is looking at dog also. He is looking it at all these parties ‘brahmane’ looking at brahman, gavi -at the cow, hasti -the elephant, sva-pake – dog-eater. So what is equal in all these entities? He is looking at all these entities, parties, personalities as soul, it’s tougher to look at the dog and look at soul in him offer your respect to him.

There was a saint in Italy Saint Francis, he would address all the entities as own brothers and sisters. Non human and all other entities, he had genuine respect. He was kind of “panditah sama darsinah”. He is seeing all the creatures, all the entities as parts and parcels and brothers. So God brother they are also our God-brothers and God-sisters in other bodies in cat body and mosquitoes comes to you, must take him as mosquito brother, then rat brother, snake brother.

Some experience they talk because you have hatred towards others or even animals like the serpents they’ll attack you violently, but your attitude towards them is not of hate then they’ll also be very friendly. Children may be playing with them, as soon as you kill your attitude even animals, they change their attitude and they don’t act like, they don’t exhibit their normal animalistic attitude. They’ll change their attitude because your attitude is different, towards them.

So, fallen down vaishnava, now he has returned to the devotional practice what should be the attitude, how should you be dealing with that person, compassion. Any other suggestion? Compassion, to be fallen nothing special to be fallen, its common (laughter). Not to be surprised but the difference is from fallen he is trying to rise; he had gone higher at some levels but then some setbacks. So they are different from the common fallen, something different, something to his credit, he made attempt to rise, go against his so called fallen nature, he lifted himself or

“Brahmanda brahmite kona bhagyavan jiva” (CC Madhya Lila, 19.151)

Must be very fortunate soul came in contact “Guru-krishna- prasade paya” . Maya is very strong, is that part of the knowledge also? Krishna consciousness person knows that maya is very strong. Don’t take it lightly, Srila Prabhupada used to say: “trouble with my disciples is they are not afraid of Maya (laughter). They are not afraid of Maya, one should be, She’s so strong- “mama maya durattaya” because it’s Krishna’s Maya. And Krishna is strong, so Krishna’s Maya also has to be strong. If it is not strong Maya, then it cannot be Krishna’s Maya. So knowing this also, Maya is strong,

“api cet su-duracaro”- So this is Krishna’s stand, even if one commits most abominable action, engaged in devotional service he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated in his determination.

“ksripram bhavati dharmatma” (BG 9.31)

And Lord addresses him as Dharmatma, that person is Dharmatma, so we cannot call him duratma. Lord is calling him Dharmatma, who are we to take different step. So just understand that, Lord is educating us infact, in this regard how to deal with those fallen.

“kaunteya pratijanihi na me bhaktah pranasyati”

And Lord even is declaring that my devotee never perishes. So Lord is also addressing that person as a devotee “My Devotee”

“svalpam apy asya dharmasya trayate mahato bhayat” (BG 2.40)

‘svalpam api’ – little progress, so now he has nothing to fear, ‘trayate mahato bhayat’ means no more going down to the lower species, you’ll be protected. During Srila Prabhupada’s days, you know some of our God Brothers, God Sisters in those days; we would call them blooping, bloop — when you throw little rock in the lake how does it sound? Bloop !! We throw little rock, we listen: Bloop! So this world is like a big ocean and them someone becoming “punar mushika bhava” becoming mouse again. He blooped, she blooped, so of course we were concerned and we would approach. I was there at least on one occasion and some devotees, oh! That prabhu, that mataji, have you know blooped left.

So Prabhupada, his response was they would they would come back he would be very much concerned, blooped but they will come back in this life or the next, but they’ll come back because
“na me bhaktah pranasyati” (BG 9.31)
Its guarantee that Lord has given and I was just looking at Sridhar Swami commentary on this
“na me bhaktah pranasyati” Bhagavad Gita commentary he says
“Kutarka karksha vadinah na etad manneran”
By hearing what Lord just said,
“api cet su-duracharo” (BG 9.30)
“ksripram bhavati dharmatma” (BG 9.31)
But those who want to argue or those who are faithless they may not accept this. My dear Lord then what you have to say

“iti shanka vyakula cittam arjunam prosayate”

This has not appeared in the dialogue but it is like reading in between lines and then the commentaries they are. So Arjuna, what you just said some people may not accept this. They may argue against this. “vyakula ciittam” Arjuna’s, mind is vyakula and his influence affected by this. He is thinking, oh everyone may not accept this. He is fallen and then still he is accepted to be as Dharmatman. So then Lord says this is not in Bhagavad Gita, but commentary: hey kaunteya! “Oh Arjuna !” This Krishna says

“atah kahaladi maha goshapurvakam vivadha mananam sabham gatva”

You go to such assembly where the all critics and all envious all these people they are not accepting this statement of mine. You go their
“gatva bahum utiksha”- you raise your arm and you aim and nishankam; without any doubt, “pratijanihi pratigyam kurum”, on my behalf take a vow. You boldly declare Krishna says. You go when all such people out there in big number, they have assembled you go and declare. Oh ! okay, I’ll go. What should I say?, Krishna! What should I say? So then Lord says, you say this:

“parmeshwarasha bhaktah”- My Bhakta, my devotee, “su- duracharo api na pranashyati”.

I just said, you repeat. You go there, you raise your hands and then you shut them up. And you say what I said this is the truth. You just say it out Loud! And make it clear and boldly declare that

“su-durachara api na pranashyati
apitu kritartaha eva bhavati”

On the contrary, kritartaha- they attain perfection and they never perish. They survive and they revive, they thrive, you say this on my behalf to this is. So knowing that much we could treat that person accordingly. So is it compassion
But those devotees as they return, they don’t have to go through a new Bhakta training. In few days, few weeks, they are, they could even give a Bhagvatam class. Their previous experiences all are revived, manifested and you could be even friendly with them. Compassion is for; compassion is for whom? Who do we exhibit our compassion towards? Some juniors so, some innocents, they may quickly become senior to you because they were 10 years practising Krishna consciousness, you have practiced only 3 years. When they come back everything is normal, back to normal, back on track, all surviving and reviving and thriving has happened. Then they are way ahead of you also. You are only 3 years but they are 10 years and 3 months of practice in ISKCON.

“isvare tad-adhinesu balisesu dvisatsu ca
prema-maitri-krpopeksa yah karoti sa madhyamah”

Total 4 categories and we deal with them differently.
First part is Isvar himself, the Lord Himself.
Second part is tad-adhinesu: those who are subordinate surrendered unto Him and they are practicing, they are in good standing.
Third party -balisesu, just now coming. “adau sraddha” they are innocent third party.
Fourth part is dvisatsu- they are envious towards santas – the sadhus, means atheists or demoniac. So that’s the fourth category.

So, what do we do with each one of them? The shashtra say: “prema, maitri, kripa, upeksha.” You give your prema, give your love to Ishwar, those are 4 categories and now 4 things you could do. So you have to match – prema, maitri, kripa, upeksha. Prema : Ishwar gets prema, you love the Lord. Tadadhinesu- the devotees they get your maitri, your friendship. And a friend in need is friend indeed. To render your help, assistance
Then Balisesu those are innocent they get kripa, they deserve kripa, your compassion, your kindness, consideration and dvisatsu, those who are anti-devotees, you could maintain safer distance from them. Offer obeisance from a distance or just stay away upeksha. So this is shastra chakshusha also. Now your knowledge of the shastras, so you look at the world around you.

When you look at anything and everything and immediately get your chasma (laughter) get your Shastra chakshu together and do then do the evaluation, then do the calculation and conclusion with the help of the knowledge of the shashtras. Not just your mind ‘sankalpa vikalpa’- acceptance rejection. Just because you feel good then you accept and then you reject, no use of shastras, use of intelligence, sharpening your tools. With the help of the shastras, studying of the shastras. Your tools are sharpened and then use the tools, evaluating not just mind but with the use of intelligence.

“dadami buddhi yogam”

Lord gives intelligence, so these intelligent statements, is wisdom in the form of this Bhakti Sastras that Lord has shared. This is Lord giving us wisdom, giving us intelligence and then you don’t just reject or accept on sense level or mind level but you use your intelligence.
If you are given medicine, lot of time, they are bitter. Your first reaction would be you would like to do what? Spit it! This is at the mind’s level you would be spitting but if you think; use your intelligence then knowing that this is good for your body or your health. So, something’s at the mind’s level you are ready to reject. Wait a minute! Then intelligence comes on the scene and you understand what is this? It might be bitter but is this useful. All that glitters is (audience: not gold) not gold. So you know glittered that doesn’t mean I should go for it, you think.

Again part of “yah pashyati sah panditah”. One who sees, we were just talking about shastra chakshushas (eyes). With the help of shastras “shastra chakshusha” more you use, you hear this shastras, study shastras. One devotee I don’t remember who that one was, but I heard this long time. He said then the knowledge takes the front seat. Knowledge comes in the fore front. All that he had been reading, studying, it is on your mind. If you are not studied of course and you have not read and then you forgot, then ignored and then knowledge takes back seat, maybe in the brain there is some place where they are stored in and you can’t find it, it’s just thrown in the pile. So as one studies and then contemplated and applies that knowledge and that knowledge stays fresh and then his shastra chakshusha is always with the help shastras, authority sadhu shastra archaryas. He is looking at the world, looking at the persons, different parties, and then accordingly takes decision or stand.

There are lot of attitude problem in devotees, so we need to work on this attitude. This is also relationship. Okay let’s use a word “sambandha” – very first thing is sambandha you come in contact, you have some relationship “sambhand” then comes “abhidheya” then comes “prayojan”. The first thing is “sambhand” -the relationship. If the relationship is not right, with a right attitude, right understanding, relationship is not right. Then nothing is going to go right. So this sambhand, this attitude, the relationship with the Lord, with the Lord’s world -this is Lord’s creation.

“isavasyam idam sarvam yat kinca jagatyam jagat
tena tyaktena bhunjitha ma gradhah kasya svid dhanam” (Sri Isopanishad 1)

Immediately you are given a tool, how to deal with this world. First of all, this world belongs to isavasyam. This is Lord’s world and now you are not the only one in the world, there are others, you are not the only son like a Jesus. They say Jesus was only son, I think he is a good son, He is a one good son but we know there are many sons. Unlimited! If God is unlimited He must have unlimited sons. So that God’s property, this world is God’s property. This has to be shared amongst His children.
‘Tena tyaktena bhunjitah’- There is a quota for you. The rest of the property, Hands off! Don’t Touch! It’s meant for other or somehow if it lands in your hands, then you shares that with others, give it in charities. Knowing that it belongs to the Lord and it is meant for other children of God. So this how you know how to deal with this world, how to relate with this world. What to do with this world? Whose world is it? How much do you really need and just keep that much and be happy with it.

“yadrccha-labha-santusto dvandvatito vimatsarah” (BG.4.22)

Lord says: My devotees whatever comes to their way they are satisfied with that much and as a result, they transcend this dvandva –this duality and they remain non-envious. They become free from envy. So philosophically we know we are envious, living entities envious of the Lord and living entities is envious of other living entities. So not only we have to become free from envy, I don’t want to be envious of the Lord, but then we make other living entities as a target and lots of envy towards them, but then Lord is not happy with that. Lord is not happy with that. So “yah pasyati sah pandita”.

So pandit is that person

“matrvat para-daresu para-dravyesu lostravat
atmavat sarva-bhutesu yah pasyati sa pandita”
Again Pandit, person who is vidhavan, knowledgeable, he has done Bhakti Shastri going for Bhakti Vaibhav and this and that. This is expected from him that “atmavatsa sarvabhuteshu” how does he deal with others. Atmavat- the way one deals with himself or herself, sarvabhuteshu- he should deal with others likewise sensitive to their feelings, their needs, their interests and concerns, so lots of sentiments, sensitivities, intricacies knowing these things, so atmavatsa.

So, importance of maintaining proper attitude towards Vaishnavas in regards to future development of ISKCON and their own spiritual life. So for future development of ISKCON also if this is understanding ‘atmavat sarvabhuteshu’. This could take care of lot of things these few words but it’s a lifetime homework infact.
“atmavat sarva bhutesu”- You love others, serve others, the way you would like to be loved and served. Learned person does this.

“para-dravyesu lostravat” – Other’s wealth loshtavat its like kachra or it is dustbin, discarded you don’t touch; it’s others you don’t need security anymore. So 10% of the population in the world is of type, I am security man, I’m secured and security. There, but if you would do this ‘loshtavat praradraveshu’ you don’t need security. Security locking system, this and that and all the way. The cameras and CCTV. But instead you just do this “loshtravat para dravyesu”- other’s wealth, oh!! I won’t touch, it’s not mine.

Because people they are not knowledgeable, they are not pandits. So they want to grab everything. My property others property also my property, my father’s property also my property. And just I will not only work hard I am going to work smart and work on transferring other’s bank balances to my bank balance. We are going to be smart and get higher education, so that those who are less educated I am going to exploit them do pick pocketing in different ways. If I go with scissors, pick pocket I might be arrested, but I’ll use my intelligence. It’s a pick pocketing; I’ll do it in a different ways, in intelligent ways. I’ll become wealthy so that’s ignorance and cultivation of avidya.

On the contrary, “yah pasyati sah pandita”
One who knows this, others wealth I’ll not touch.
matrvat para-daresu – ‘matrivat’- The woman or other’s wives are like my mothers. Easier said than done, but this has to be done there is no way out. So for senses or mind, it may be pleasing but use of intelligence now,
matrvat para-daresu , my attitude is matrvat that is my mother. So towards the future development of ISKCON, I think this principle, this knowledge, this cultivation of knowledge is of immense benefit.

Specially raising ourselves from kanistha adhikari level to madhyam adhikar. Atleast Prabhupada said atleast come to the madhyam adhikar. Our movement will only survive and spread if we did that, if we remain just kanistha adhikaris only loving Radha Madhava the best deity worship in the world. That’s fine but infact we also have to worship devotees, how to worship devotees, serve devotees not just lip service. Serve Lord and serve devotees of the Lord. Serve devotees of Krishna Consciousness movement, serve them and worship them. Prabhupada said cooperate with each other, so that his society is protected after he is gone. So that protection will come from our knowledgeable action. Action equipped with knowledge, Yogasthah in the verse of Sri Krishna :

“yoga-sthah kuru karmani” (BG 2.48)

Prabhupada says that devotee by the way he deals or dealing with others, he does ‘dharma samsthapanarthaya’- he establishes dharma by his dealing by his interactions. Of course standard reactions, standard relationships, standard attitude, standard sambandha with that devotee establishes dharma, establishes Krishna Consciousness, Krishna Consciousness movement, or principles of Krishna Consciousness or established by his, his dealings, his Krishna Conscious dealings full of knowledge as advised in the shastras; Gita and Bhagavat and Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu, and Isopanishad, Updeshmarita.
One studies and then he is properly situated and that’s yogasthah. He has become yogi; he is situated in Yoga linked with the Lord properly. ‘Yogasthah’ then ‘kuru karmani’ then person is expected to act, a person is expected to deal, relate with the world, relate with other devotees, new devotees or senior devotees or fallen and then come back devotees or other institutions, other vaishnavas. For everything there is a standard.

So we are happy that you have been completing your study of the Bhakti Shashtras. Now there is jnana part and then comes vijnana the application. So I think application this is what, what is being talked now, then you’ll be walking out of door and then you have to deal with others, they haven’t done their Bhakti Shastri, in your temples wherever you come from and then you meet this situation, that situation, this devotee that devotee, someone superior, someone equal, someone junior, someone critical and then what you are suppose to be doing in each one of those situations. Get ready, are you ready? Haribol……..

Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur avirbhava tithi mohotsava ki…… JAIII!!!!!
Nitai Gaur Prema Nande!!

Qualities and mood of Preacher

Venue: Mayapur
Dated: 4/2/2010

Haribol!!
(Guru Maharaj asking the Bhakti sastri students) You were here yesterday? And what happened? What did we talk about?
Attitude towards living entities ants and elephants and from knowledge comes humility. “kanthasta and hidayasta” don’t keep just to the throat but bring it to the heart and then do not just accumulate that there but assimilate so that there is the transformation ‘yoga sthah kuru karmani’ (B.G 2.48) someone has taken note of, that was one of the concluding statements we made. ‘yogtha sah kuru karmani’ which was Krishna’s advise to Arjuna but is that just for Arjuna? It’s especially for us. Arjuna is already yogi and Bhakta, ‘bhakta si me’ (B.G 4.3) that we want to become devotees, so He is giving us advise, ‘yoga sthah kuru karmani’. So ‘yoga sthah’ that’s being in yoga, established in yoga, established in knowledge, want to talk in the context of ‘what we are doing here’, studying the sastras and acquiring knowledge and we want to become knowledgeable, equipped with knowledge. We could also say ‘yoga sthah kuru karmani’ or ‘ jnana sampanna’ we become ‘jnana sampanna’ like what ‘vidya vinaya sampanna’ (B.G 5.18). Equipped with vidya, vinaya, knowledge and humility, so ‘jnana sampanna’, equipped with the knowledge then you act.

Don’t just walk into the world ignorant but walk into the world on the scene equipped with the knowledge. That’s why the very first stage or phase of life is called ‘vidya vidyarthi dassa’ vidya arjan is the primary focus and function of brahmacari life, ‘brahmacari gurukule vasandato</strong' and then he does acquires knowledge, acquiring knowledge. So you are brahmacaris? Certainly it’s the age to acquire knowledge. In fact, never stop keep acquiring knowledge all lifelong. We should never be wasting one sann-moment, those who wish to acquire knowledge, do not even waste one sann, one moment is the same, ‘avyarthalalatvam’ that’s another technical term. There is a term called sann and kann, kann-dana, so those who wish to become wealthy, they do not afford they should not be wasting not even one kann, one grain, should be only accumulating one grain, two grains, more grains and on. If you waste, how could you be wealthy? How could you be accumulating wealth if you waste one grain, two grains, more grains. So one kann and one sann, kann sann, they are two different word, kann means grain and sann means moment. Do not even waste one moment of your life, acquire knowledge. Your moments, moment after moment, anuksann, sann, anuksann, moment after moment after moment should be invested in acquiring knowledge, realizing knowledge, becoming wise, wisdom. So once we are equipped with the knowledge, then we could act in knowledge and then that action will be proper action then that’s the Bhakti yoga, ‘jnanavan…what does he do? mam prapadyate’.

We do not surrender unto Krishna because lack of knowledge. More knowledge you have, you will surrender more unto Krishna. When we say knowledge, knowledge of what? ‘vedais ca sarvair, aham eva vedyo’ (B.G 15.15) I am to be known. You acquire more knowledge, you know Krishna more and then as you know Krishna more, you feel like, Oh! Such person, I would love to surrender unto Him! I didn’t know He is such a sweet, beautiful, this that kind of person.
So, more we know and from ignoring Krishna comes ignorance; Oh! He is ignorant, ignorant of what? Krishna. Oh! He ignores me, you know, he ignores me, ignores me, I was right there but he just ignored me. You hear sometimes people complaint, he ignores me; he doesn’t acknowledge my presence or doesn’t shake hands, he didn’t even say Hare Krishna to me! (Laughter) just ignores me. From ignoring Krishna one who ignores remains ignorant. So more we hear, more we study, more we discuss Krishna, ‘bodhayantah paras param’ then ‘mat citta mad gata prana’ (B.G 10.9) then that person’s consciousness is stuck to Krishna’s lotus feet. And he is ready to give ‘radha krsna prana mora jugal kishore’ immediately, oh! My life unto such Lord, ‘jivana marane gati arna hi mor’ during my this lifetime or marane or even if after I die, after that, where do I go? ‘gati’, my destination is Radha Krsna.

So, this is the result of knowing Krishna. We don’t care for Krsna and don’t want to surrender unto Him because we don’t know Him. So more we know Him, more we’ll surrender unto Him and ‘sa mahatma sudurlabhah’ such mahatma is rare and then that mahatma will deal with the world appropriately. Actions will be full of knowledge, equipped with knowledge and ‘na mam karmani limpanti na me karma phale sprha’ (B.G 4.14) as is the case with Krishna, I am not attached ‘na karma phale sprha’ no motivation in performing my activities and ‘na mam karmani limphanti’ the activities do not bind me,that’s the case with Krsna. Like father like son; He is father and we are His sons, so the way He acts, we’ll act accordingly. All spiritual activities, no more entanglement, we know all the dealings, we know how to deal with the world, energies, living entities, this kind of devotees, that category of devotees or fallen devotees or faithful devotee, we cannot say demoniac devotee (Laughter) demoniac devotee! kanishta adikari is a combination, two in one (laughter). He plays double role (Laughter) behind the curtain he is someone else and on the stage he does good acting. So that demon is also hidden in us, that’s anarthas, cleansing with the knowledge, ‘ceto darpana marjanam’ and then only devotee, got rid of demon. You read the ‘Krishna killing demons’ and the benefit is that demon like qualities, if those qualities are in us, then just by hearing Krishna killing that demon, the demoniac nature in us is also killed. Anyways demoniac devotee is not the term commonly used but in practice we see sometimes demoniac devotee. It’s not a laughing matter, is this? Oh! I found enemy, I found enemy, where is it? That’s me! (Laughter). I found my enemy, I found my enemy, where is it? Who is it? That’s me. So, enemy is within us.

kama esa krodha esa rajo guna samudbhavah
mahasano maha papma viddhy enam iha vairinam’
(B.G 3.37)

Take note, you have a diary? Take note of this viddhi, you should know, you should note this, ‘enam vairinam’, that is your vairi, that is your enemy, ‘kama esa krodha esa’ so Arjuna said that,’ I am forced ‘balad iva niyojitah’, someone compels me, I know it’s not good no no no, I shouldn’t be doing this but something just drags me into it, pushes me.’ Who is it? What is it? ‘atha kena prayukto yam papam carati parusah’ (B.G 3.36) this was inquired by Arjuna. So even practicing devotee may experience this, this is what Arjuna is talking about. He knows this is not right, no no no no but then one ends up doing that. So what is it? Who is it? That’s a demon Arjuna, that’s a demon. That’s enemy and the name given is ‘ kama esa krodha esa’ there are two of them; there are more of them, bunch of them.

So, basically we are talking of those ideas, attitude, proper attitude towards senior devotees and other vaisnavas outside ISKCON fallen down and again return to practices and then an importance of maintaining proper attitude towards vaisnavas regards the future development of ISKCON. So we had made some comments and there was not much discussion, interaction but not much. If there is anything you wish to do, any discussion? But before we do that I did skip one, we had 5 points to discuss but one of them was in reference to Bhagavad Gita 6.44 purport Srila Prabhupada has quoted up.

‘aho bata sva paco to gariyan yaj jihvagre vartate nama tubhyam’ (S.B 3.33.7)

This is Devahuti’s statement from Bhagavatam and so that’s also a party, means a chanter of Holy name.

‘aho bata sva paco to gariyan yaj jihvagre vartate nama tubhyam
tepus tapas te juhuvuh sasnur arya brahmanucur nama grnanti ye te’

Those who chant the Holy name of the Lord, so they are all the vaisnavas like that and proper attitude towards the chanters of the Holy name. So the commentary by Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura Maharaj on this verse is quite amazing. A person is a dog eater and recommendation is- he should be worshipped if he is ‘vartate nama tubyam…..nama grnanti ye te’. If they are chanters of the Holy name of the Lord, then ‘gariyan’ they should be worshipped, be honoured, don’t think anything. They are chanting the Holy names of the Lord, dog eaters are mentioned and that’s kind of lowest thing to do. That means anybody, everybody in this world, dog eaters or rat eaters (Laughter) in China they eat rats, ant eaters. In China they produce breads with different kinds of ants, oh! This bread is red ant bread, this kind of label they have. Not that this has cashews and this has pistachios (Laughter) this bread that bread or banana bread forget it, they have as many kind of ants they could find in China. They accumulate, maybe they must be producing ants and then one bread with one kind of ants or maybe some mixed ant bread and you gobble it up. So even them, if they are chanting, if they take to chanting, then immediately they are ‘gariyan’- they are worshippable.

“yasya svapacha sa jihvagre eva natusampurnayam tasyameti samyam” Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura, he says that chanting, ‘jihvagre…’ agre means the tip of the tongue, they may not be even using, ‘sampurna’- the complete tongue, the whole tongue, they are just using the tip of the tongue, even then they have to be worshipped. They may be chanting not properly, that’s one meaning of chanting with the tip of the tongue only- ‘jihvagre’. In order for one to chant properly, proper pronunciation, you need to make something called ‘prayatna’, ‘prayas’, even ucharan, ‘prayatna’, whole endeavor, movement of the lips and the mouth and the tongue and the throat, you need to make extra effort. In Bengal they some pronouncing some syllables, they make it easy, Lucky Narayan, what kind of Narayan? Lucky Narayan (Laughter) Lucky. Instead of saying Lakshmi, to say Lakshmi so much effort, lots of air and movement and the tongue to say Lakshmi! Lucky! (Laughter). In Bengal they do not say Lakshmi, they say Lucky. So many words also, ‘khatriya’ not ‘kshatriya’, ‘khatriya’. So there are some short forms where you do not use your whole tongue, you end up using part of the tongue, some of the movements, tip of the tongue only and our devotees from the West also do different things (laughter).

So ‘jihvagre’, this verse says this person he is a dog eater and he is chanting with ‘jihvagre’ meaning tip of the tongue, meant he is not even chanting properly, doesn’t matter, even then he is worshipable. You are chanting the Holy name even improperly; incorrectly you get the credit and is worshippable. And ‘nama eka………..artha” then this verse also says ‘jihvagre vartate nama tubyam’ that this person is chanting one name, not all the times. Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura says, ‘the verse doesn’t say ‘namani’, namani means plural, nama is singular, namani is plural; like pushpani, phalani, pushpa is one but pushpani is many pushpa, many flowers. So he may not be even chanting a lot of chanting, some chanting, some name he is chanting even then he is chanting, he is ‘gariyan’, he is worshippable.

‘vartate’ and then he comments upon the word ‘vartate’, activity ‘vartate’ meaning this person is still in the process of chanting, he is in middle of chanting. He has not even completed his chanting, ‘vartate’ not completed the action of chanting, even then this person is ‘gariyan’. He is in the process, present tense presently chanting, he is in the middle of chanting, he has not completed the chanting; chanting or reciting. Chanting the holy name or chanting mantras recitation, ya! he is in the middle of chanting, he has not completed chanting or he has just now started chanting, just now started, he is not seasoned chanter, doesn’t say that here, he is chanting. He is in the process, just now started chanting, not long time ago and even then that person is to be honored, to be worshipped. And it is to be understood that this person has sometimes in the past within this life or previous, one of the previous lives he has performed all the tapasyas, all the yajyas he has performed. Gone around, taking bath in the holy places, he has given all the charities. He has done all these, as the result now he is chanting the Holy name of the Lord. So this chanting of the Holy name of the Lord is the topmost thing to do. So the 8th offence against the holy name is, chanting Hare Krishna to be considered as one of the most auspicious ritualistic activities. So this one is not a furtive activity, some karma kanda section, some pious activity, punya karma; this is pure devotional service. Which is outcome of doing everything else by the person in the past; hence he has now become eligible to chant the Holy name. Even Chinese, if he is chanting the Holy name now, sometimes in the past he has done everything else.

(Question by devotee being asked)
Answer by Guru Maharaj – He is a beginner, he has started chanting, quantity of chanting, one hour, one month or he has not been even gone through shraddha, bhajan kriya, anartha nivriti, nishta and all those phases, he has shraddha and he has now started chanting. Who can repeat the question? Who understood the question?
Devotee in the audience – as Maharaj explained worshippable, someone who chants is worshipped. Is worshippable means admirable or we should offer him pooja even if he has bad habits?

Guru Maharaj continued….O! Well, you can offer him a flower (Laughter) a garland, offer him obeisance’s, you could do his parikrama (Laughter). He is worship able; you could do ‘sodasupachar’ (laughter). He’ll give it up..Like those chanters in 26 second avenue, New York they were coming with their wine bottles, girlfriends, long hair but they were chanting. Then few months later, Prabhupada said, ‘anyone ready to follow four regulative principles?’ and assembled there, they were ready, it’s like perfection achieved. If they stick to the path, they are on the right path now and if they do some more right things, keep doing even they will be achieving perfection. So in advance, they already have become worshippable. Ok, beside this, anything else from yesterday you want to go back to and otherwise we quit and turn to today’s assignment.

Question – Yesterday you were telling that knowledge, we cultivate knowledge and we already become proud or…how can we properly continue knowledge?

Answer – Like we pray for success to the Lord and Lord fulfills your prayer, we should be remembering, my success is because of the Lord. Lord fulfilled my desire, my prayer. So we should be giving all the credit to the Lord and praising Him or giving Him credit. If we do not do it then we are hypocrites; not grateful or not honest. So again Lord is giving us knowledge and as soon as he has given the knowledge, then, ah! That’s my knowledge, I acquired it; so kind of pride. You have forgotten that you have given. So part of the cultivation is remembering the source of that knowledge or who gave the knowledge and part of the realization is as we become knowledgeable, we realize two things, may be there are some others but want to say two things. God is great, that’s one realization and other realization is, I am just insignificant, infinitesimal…like that, I am just tiny bit, ‘ansa’- just part and parcel. So, God is great, He is isvara, ‘mayadhyaksena’- He is superidentant. He is ‘sarva karana karanam’- cause of all causes….all that full of opulence’s- He is Bhagavan, sarva aisvaryapurna, all the six opulence’s in full but I am just tiny dust.

‘ayi nanda tanuja kinkaram patitam mam visame bhavambudhau
krpaya tava pada pankaja sthita dhuli sadrsam’
(5th verse of Siksastakam)

Please fix me as an atom dust particles at your lotus feet, I don’t even want to be garland around your neck or crown on your head; make me crowned on my head, don’t say this, just make me dust particle and I’ll be more than happy, I mean any connection. So these both things are part of realization, so one is God realization, other one is self realization Lord is Vibhu and I am anu, ‘vibhuatma anuatma’. So this has to be, otherwise again ignorance takes over. This is the knowledge and we have to stay knowledgeable all the time, today, tonight, tomorrow morning, tomorrow, day after. God exists and I also exist but then He is that size and I am this size. That is knowledge, keep it intact, contemplate and don’t lose the sight of your size and servant, not only servant but servant of the servant of the servant. Tendency here is to become boss but the goal is to become das. Boss, it’s very hard from boss to become das, take the position of das. But that’s the position, constitutional position; eternally we are that, so humility and I am not the only servant.

Krishna is Supreme Personality of Godhead and I am the servant, I am His servant, that’s a big position! Krishna is Supreme Personality of Godhead and I am His servant but we should remember that you are not the only servant. That should make you miserable (laughter) I wish I was the only servant of the Lord, sometimes you are some big person’s servant or spiritual master’s servant and then you don’t like to share that service with another servant. Spiritual master and I am his servant- personal servant. He doesn’t like to share otherwise 50-50 and I am half the servant. If there is another servant also then your position is, kind of lost your position. I am the only servant, so sometimes they become attached and they don’t want to give, share that.

So, if we could be happy, Krishna is Supreme Personality of Godhead and he has many many many many servants and then you are lost! You are just nobody, one of the billions and trillions, countless servants and you are just one! But in fact still is not a small position. You are lucky, lucky you, Lord accepts you also as His servant. So happy to be one amongst many servants or servant of the servant. That’s even higher position, to be servant of the servant, is a superior position. And you want to have even higher then you go servant of the servant of the servant, that’s higher position. Even higher position, then servant of the servant of the servant of the servant. So not only we appreciate Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead but we appreciate other servants of the Lord, other devotees of the Lord. “purusam nrsu” Lord says in the Bhagavad Gita 10th chapter, ability in man “purusam nrsu” . The human beings, if they have the capability, ability, that’s Me, that’s Me! So whenever we see some capability, ability in some other devotee, other servant of the Lord, you should be…Oh! This is Lord, Lord has made him capable. His ability, his capability, responsibility, response ability, how he responds, how responsible, responsibility. When you see someone responsible- see Lord, that’s not Lord but Lord has appeared in form of that ability. Lord wants us to see that “purusam nrusu” I think we stop and proceed….ok.

So, B.G 12.13-19, what do you normally do when you have an assignment like that? Read. So you have read and you have come? Now what do you do? Question and answer, oh! You are not ready to make a presentation? (Laughter) So, it’s all open, anything is possible.

So, first of all it says, identify qualities B.G 12.13-19, which are particularly relevant for preachers of Krishna consciousness. Ok so why don’t we do that? We want to identify. There is board or something? ya, so who is the writer? So verses, you know which verses you have come prepared and now we want to identify. Specially remember preachers for Krishna consciousness, quality relevant to the preachers of Krishna consciousness. So, who want to say? Ok raise your hand. You should be able to explain or give little purport on each of these qualities and how to apply.

“Quality relevant to the preachers of Krishna consciousness- equal in happiness and distress”
Preachers shouldn’t be envious; on the contrary he should be kind.
Tolerant in provocative situation
Free from false ego

Oh! You are looking in the book and reading is that allowed? That’s easy (Laughter)

Pure in practice
Equal in honor, dishonor, he is equal
Expert, could do many things at a time
He is always satisfied

Who is he? We always say- He is always satisfied, he is equal (Laughter), he is not envious, what about us, what about me? (Laughter) You are going to be preacher now. At the end of this Bhakti sastri, you will be entering the field of preaching. This is what is expected of you not that someone is pure, he is pure, he is determined, he is…I am! (Laughter)

Doesn’t care for residence, (any new hand?)
Fixed in knowledge
Silent, you were silent all this time (Laughter) that’s a good point but you have broken your silence (Laughter) I will not preach, I will be silent.

Mind and intelligence fixed on Krishna
Free from mundane association

How many qualities we have? I think we should stop listing the qualities, I am sure there are more, some you have forgotten or if we give you time, I am sure you’ll be able to say more but then we also have some time limitations.

Some discussion on this?
How preaching Krishna consciousness helps to further develop these qualities?

Who could say? Now you have learned this, memorized these verses, these qualities but as now you enter the field of preaching, how does that help you to further cultivate and develop these qualities, this is a little discussion.
Devotee from the audience: When we get into the field of preaching, we get the opportunity to practice all of these and by practicing all of these. We could practice some realization, with realization we have a deeper understanding of these qualities and so we’ll be able to engage more deeply into that and imbibe them more properly with realization.

Guru Maharaj- some trial – error also you’ll make, some mistakes and someone was asking and then next time you improve, someone will point out, ah! No prabhu, you did wrong, you said wrong, so next time you rectify your act. Ok, yes prabhu? The more we preach, the more we learn, that’s very good!

Ya! Also Prabhupada said- you read, you hear, you repeat and you realize. In one purport, Prabhupada makes that order, you hear, you read and then you repeat, you preach, you realize, it helps you. ‘aniketana’. Srila Prabhupada also writes you know those Yamduttas, they were not able to, didn’t represent Yamaraja properly in the field. One time they were challenged, they were defeated you know the history from Ajamila’s episodes. Prabhupada writes there, preachers of Krishna consciousness should enter the field of preaching well equipped, knowledgeable. So that there is no humiliation, no embarrassment, I am not remembering the exact words. Prabhupada says, Ajamila in that pastimes, the Yamduttas, they were not able to represent, their performance was very bad but our preachers should be keeping that in mind that you don’t repeat their performance. So better be prepared and go into the field. Of course, they were defeated that time and they went back to Yamaraja and they received some more lessons and then they again went into the field and they didn’t make more mistakes again.

Our preachers are sent, our preaching go door to door. What happens? Are you welcome at every door? Some places may be there is sign ‘Welcome’ (Laughter) or ‘atithi devo bhava’- the guest are as good as God, open door, open arm policy. But at some other doors, ‘Be aware of dogs’ (Laughter) sign is there, they may be opening door just to get the do out (Laughter),shu..shu…. go go go, we have seen, we experienced this. Chasing the dog or they will call the chaukidar, get rid of this sadhu or as the bell rings, they first check who is (Laughter) you know these little things they do. So you’ll not be welcomed everywhere, some places, yes, other places, other experiences. So what happen? What do you have to learn from this? Tolerance, equal in honor and dishonor, right there you will be tested and tried in the field. Here you have memorized the verse “equal in honor and dishonor” and here comes the experience (Laughter) then what do you do? How you respond?

They speaking like, you are welcomed, you have invitation and you are given microphone and audience and faithful audience but that may not be the situation every time. So, you’ll be learning, you have to learn. You may be making some mistakes that’s fine, that’s expected you will make mistakes ‘ to err is human’ but it said, if you don’t learn from your mistakes you have made, then you remain a fool. But if you learn from your mistake, then you become wise and experienced. So after you have gone through some experience, could do little review yourself or present to others, ‘this is what I did or said, please give your feedback, how could I do this next time I’ll have opportunity. So some learning, improving, ok…so we’ll do gayatri, those who are Brahmins and then we’ll have more points.

So someone has Gita, can I have a bigger copy? Ok, here it is thank you. So we have few more points for today and what’s the time limit? Sky is the limit.

So Krishna has delivered Bhagavad Gita, knowledge of Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. He has already asked him to give all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me and if you do that, what will I do in return? I’ll protect you, He said! I’ll deliver you from all the sinful reactions. Do not fear, ‘ma sucah’ and Krsna will now say ‘idam te natapaskaya nabhaktaya kadacana na casusrusave vacyam na ca mam yo bhyasuyati’ (B.G 18.67) . This confidential knowledge, you know which one is this, which has already been spoken, presented. This idam, previously been spoken, presented, this confidential knowledge may never be explained to those who are not austere or devoted or engaged in devotional service nor to one who is envious of Me. So that’s the end of the preaching. Who do you preach to? You do not preach to those who are not austere. They are not austere, don’t preach, never to be explained this knowledge to those who are not austere “atapskaya”. ‘abhaktaya’- If they are not devotees do not explain this to them and ‘asusru..’ – not engage in devotional service, do not explain this knowledge unto them and ‘na ca mam yo bhyasuyati’ – those who are envious, they are also not to be explained this knowledge.

And now discuss Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada, that’s not in the purport or you have that? ok.
Mahaprabhu’s and Srila Prabhupada’s mood of extending the eligibility for hearing Bhagavad Gita beyond the limits, Krishna establishes in B.G 18.67 with appropriate references from the Bhakti sastras are discuss the relevance for this mood for ISKCON preachers and that’s you, ISKCON preachers.

So, one Krishna said, we just have heard what one Krishna had to say. And then not another Krishna but same Krishna now His name is ‘ krsnaya caitanya namne’, His name is Sri Krishna Caitanya, this is how Rupa Goswami, ‘namo maha vadanyaya krsna prema pradayate krsnaya krsna caitanya namne...krsnaya…’ I offer my obeisance’s unto Krishna, which Krishna? Whose name is Sri Krishna Caitanya, you get that, ‘krsnaya krsna caitanya, namne krsnaya’ I offer my obeisances unto Krishna whose name is now Sri Krsna Caitanya. So that Sri Krsna Caitanya, ‘jare dako tare kaho krsna upadesh’. One Krsna said on the battlefield of Kurukshetra ‘this is not to be shared, explained to this party that party, they are not eligible’. And then the same Krishna becomes very very magnanimous, unconditional, His way of giving Himself to others is unconditional, charitable, He is magnanimous; more fallen you are, more eligible you are. ‘mo sama patita prabhu na paibe ara..’ because you will not find more fallen person like me, so my dear Lord this is it, I am the candidate, ‘doya koro more’ – please be merciful unto me. ‘patita pavan hetu tava avatara’ – my knowledge is, I have gone to Bhakti sastri course when I was in Mayapur, I have become follower of Bhaktivedanta swami Prabhupada’s Hare Krsna movement and I had been singing or hearing some songs of Narottama dasa Thakura and now I know You are ‘patita pavana hetu’. You have appeared to deliver the fallen souls and I am the fallen, very fallen soul, ‘doya koro more’ please be merciful unto, ‘kripa koro, tava avatara’.

So that Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu is saying ‘jare dako tare kaho krsna upadesh’, you just bumped into somebody and then, you don’t ask him, ‘are you austere prabhu?’ (Laughter) because I know Krishna says, this is not to be explained to them, who is not austere, so if you are not austere, am not going to talk to you. Or what else, are you devoted? (Laughter) Haribol spirit soul? Are you devoted? (Laughter), if you are not devoted, I’ll take lunch break, I’ll honor Prasad, I’ll not preach to you and like that. And like that, are you envious of the Lord, are you engaged in devotional services? So, Caitanya Mahaprabhu, He is Krishna but now has becomes magnanimous, more kind, kinder than Krishna is Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. And ‘patra apatra nahi vicar, sthan asthan nahi vicar’-where to preach, where not to preach is not to be considered, you don’t have to think, who is eligible, who is not eligible, that’s not the consideration. “prati ghare giya” Caitanya Mahaprabhu said that to ‘suno suno haridas, suno nityananda’ they were the leading preachers, Haridasa Thakura is Brahma, the first acarya of our disciplic succession and Nityananda Prabhu is Adi Guru- Balarama. So these two leading preachers, Mahaprabhu says, prati- you go to every home and tell them, ‘bolo krsna bhaja krsna kara krsna siksa’.

You teach siksa, give them instructions of Krishna to them, bolo krsna, ask them to chant Hare Krsna, bhaja krsna, ask them to worship Krsna. And that is what these two Prabhus were busy doing. Nityananda Prabhu would go, knock the door, when they open the doors, Nityananda Prabhu would offer His pranam. That is by example instead of expecting humility from them, instead of expecting humility in the audience, the speaker he is exhibiting his humility and as a result those householders they are stunt to see this preacher’s they are humble, He is very humble, tolerant, respectful. So even if they have plans of not respecting but just seeing how they are respectful towards those householders, towards those persons they want to preach to, right there some revolution in their consciousness and their attitude. Even if they are faithless, immediately they’ll have some faith in those sadhus, in those preachers and on the spot those who are not eligible, they have become eligible just by seeing those preachers, seeing the attitude of the preacher, seeing the humility of the preacher before even they hear the knowledge, how knowledgeable are the preachers.
When we were leaving for Padayatra in ’76, first Padayatra we did was from Vrndavana to Mayapur. It took us five months to get here with the bullock cart Sankirtan Party. The day we were leaving, we had gone to see Srila Prabhupada, get his blessings and we wanted him to do the inauguration of the Padayatra bullock cart Sankirtan Party. And Prabhupada gave us speech and we had some discussion. Prabhupada gave lots of instructions, so one of those things Prabhupada said was that, if people are capable of hearing, understanding philosophy then, ‘jare dekho tare kaho krsna upadesh’ otherwise he said, ‘jare dako tare kaho hare krsna upadesh’ Prabhupada said it differently. Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, ‘jare dako tare kaho krsna upadesh’, krsna upadesh refers to, this is Krsna’s upadesh, Bhagavad Gita is Krsna’s upadesh, Krsna’s instructions, that is Bhagavad Gita. So when Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, ‘yare dekho tare kaho krsna upadesh’, Caitanya Mahaprabhu is referring to, He preached Bhagavad Gita, message of Bhagavad Gita to them.

But Prabhupada said, if they are not…because we also we’ll be going through small villages and even some people illiterate, some farmers, simple people may not digest the teachings of Bhagavad Gita, the confidential knowledge. So he said ‘hare krsna upadesh’, so what did Prabhupada meant? Just chant “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”. So we could do that, just ‘hare krsna upadeh’, ‘yare dekho tare kaho hare krsna upadesh’. So normally most of the programs, we start with the kirtan, then end up also with the kirtan, we do sandwich and between little philosophy; layer of bread at the bottom and tomatoes and cheese and another bread on the top, sandwich nice package.

So, the chanting of Hare Krsna, people may not be into this ‘krsna upadesh’, but ‘hare krsna upadesh’, people in general, you want to find out what is dharma for this age of Kali. Chanting of Hare Krishna must be dharma because people naturally get attracted to the chanting of the holy names of the Lord. Have you seen, and as soon as we stop after chanting and dancing for sometimes and we make some announcement or begin talking, what happens? They all turn away, go away (Laughter) disappear and you end up with 4 or 5 people. There are 500 in the beginning, only few listening to your ‘krsna upadesh’ or…So that’s nice package, so Hare Krishna chanting includes infact the philosophy of Krishna consciousness includes everything. And so people, they like chanting and as they become favorable, become inclined and then little talk could be given, philosophy presented, present Bhagavad Gita books or some people may not be into chanting or hearing your discourse, they may be happy with prasadam. That’s also Krishna, enters their heats through their stomach. They are close inside, right? (Laughter), stomach and heart. So, put Krishna into the stomach, the heart will melt; and make heart little favorable and soft and then little dose of philosophy.

Srila Prabhupada used to say, ‘nacho gao, khao’, Krishna consciousness is so sweet, chanting, dancing, feasting and little philosophy (Laughter). First Srila Prabhupada would say chanting, dancing feasting and little philosophy. Sit down and talk but mostly chanting dancing. Take prasadam and little philosophy. So to go by Krishna’s standard and Bhagavad Gita then lot of people will not be eligible to receive this explanation, this dialogue. So then Caitanya Mahaprabhu mood, Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s formula, the way He has packaged, Srila Prabhupada said people come to our temple, so beautiful temple, ISKCON temple, ‘angraise ka mandir’ very clean. In Vrndavana they say ‘angraise ka mandir’, English temple very clean English temple. ‘saheber matha’ they call it ‘saheber matha’ . So they are not glorifying the deity, they are not glorifying Krsna in His form and but even if they glorify beautiful temple, clean temple or good devotees, nice people, courteous people, this could be starting point also, preparing them.

So you don’t have to start your preaching right away but maybe after next visit, next visit, next visit, let them experience other things, just clean temple, beautiful temple, chanting, dancing, feasting other things. And then they should be getting ready at some point to hear. Srila Prabhupada wanted his books, he said, first class or excellent packaging, excellent contents, best contents, best packaging, colour, cover hardbound, so lots of people in early ’70s, they would buy Krishna book. Krishna book like book in India, people have never seen any printing like this or Back to Godhead front cover, inside…Even when I first time saw glitter, printed in Japan. Printing in India 20-30-40 years ago, was very lousy or so. But people not much into content but the packaging was going for, displayed book printed in Japan, overseas, so even those things are winners.

And of course when we talk of austerity, there is a degree, variation of degrees. Some people may be little austere, atleast little austere, some people are more austere, some people not austere, devoted, it’s very rare to find a zero devotion, atleast 1%, 10%. We were just talking, in Bengal is a topic, even 90% of the CPM, the communists are believers although they are officially supposed to be communists and against God and Godlessness. Officially they don’t like their Ministers should be attending a religious function, one minister just resigned, I can’t, I cannot manage, I’m religious, I have sentiments for God, how could I hide, how could I not participate in religious function. I resign from your Communist party and he was made out of the party. I have resigned but he says most of my colleagues they are 90% of you all believers (Laughter). You may officially saying I don’t believe in God, Godlessness ki jai!! So he was saying 90%. So to that degree could be also explained to them that they are faithful or devoted or engaged in devotional services or they are austere.

ye yatha mam prapadyante tams tathaiva bhajam aham‘ (B.G 4.11). So, if you think like that, identify people, atleast I see some faith, I see some devotion, I see some austerity that this person is performing. Then Srila Prabhupada policy also for preacher is do what? ‘Fanning the spark’- you see little spark, just little spark you see and the fire, little spark the coal, kind of now it is dying out, it is getting extinguished. When you see that spark and you could from that spark get a blazing fire by fanning it. It is a little spark and you just blew it. What would happen? It will extinguish, it will die out, finished, if you blow it how much that little spark could handle. If you blow, that will be blown out, finished, so you have to be careful and if it is little less blowing, too much little blowing, then also do not make much difference to the, not get the blazing fire out of that spark. So this is art, ladies in the villages, they know how much to blow. In the beginning they blow a little bit and as there are more fire and they also blow a little more, increase their air, more air. So, this art of preaching, how much this person could handle, how much faith, how much you preach to in first phase, first meeting. So, you don’t have to say everything, no hard rule for chanting, no hard rules and fast rules, that’s how we start right? Caitanya Mahaprabhu doesn’t say that, then gradually ten offences (Laughter) against the holy name. No hard and fast rules then ten offences, you have to study Harinaam Cintamani, Bhajan Rahasya and gradually you come up with some more rules.

So that whole art, art and science of preaching has to be learnt as preachers of Krishna consciousness, all those qualities are going to be coming very handy, very useful in presenting philosophy of Krishna consciousness. You saw how Nityananda Prabhu, it was working out, people were becoming inclined, favorable just by seeing His approach, His attitude. Jagai and Madai, how much tolerant, who saved Jagai and Madai? Not Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Caitanya Mahaprabhu had different strategy, Sudarsana!! Getting His Sudarsana cakra ready. But Nityananda Prabhu, the preacher of Krsna consciousness was more tolerant and by seeing on the spot, on the spot these two prabhus, Jagai and Madai got converted; by seeing the kindness of Nityananda Prabhu, they could not believe how kind was Nityananda Prabhu.

There was change of heart and they, on the spot they surrendered, they were ready to follow the four regulative principles and they would chant “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare” and they were saved. So that’s the mood and mission of Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada. We can’t say that contradicts Krishna’s expectation in Bhagavad Gita. It fits in or preparing them so that they become favorable, faithful, devoted, austere. There was a devotee called…Rathayatra…Jayananda. Devotee’s lots of time cite his example. He was very expert in engaging people, just seeing some new bhaktas, new people, he is building rathas and they were just standing around and immediately he would engaged them, do this, do that, paint this, cut this and people would be willing to assist in the services. He was very very expert, very sweet in his dealings and very expert. One of the qualities, expert, so he would engage them. Krishna says, they should be devoted, so Jayananda, he would get them to devote some of their energy, intelligence in works and make them eligible for message of Bhagavad Gita, philosophy of Krsna consciousness.

Narada Muni was little boy where he would just go help his mother, mother washing dishes and cutting in the kitchen. Maha Bhagavatas have come for Caturmasya, Bhagavad katha and little Narada Muni, hey! Bring that little water, get flowers and they’ll give these Bhaktivedantas, they were giving little little task to Narada. Son of this maidservant, so he said how he came to Krsna consciousness. How I came to Krsna consciousness. Narada Muni explains in first canto of Bhagavatam and he had association of these Maha Bhagavatas, little service and with their permission I would take prasad and as the result he became Narada Muni, very thoughtful. So, this little boy, he was given some services to do, some association, some prasad and he became devoted, devotee. So, if you don’t have the eligibility, put into the situation, circumstances where people become eligible to receive Krishna consciousness, appreciate Krsna consciousness. ‘agyat sukriti’ -unknowingly people rendered this service, that service and gradually they become eligible for Krsna consciousness. What do you say? You are finished? Good point.
Whatever works, this is Krishna’s policy, whatever you find eligible, devoted, austere, non envious person, share this explain this knowledge with them. And other places of you are dealing with Jagais and Madais and remember Nityananda Prabhu, remember Srila Prabhupada. ‘yena kena prakarena’ – Think of some ways and means to introduce Krishna consciousness. You have compassion also; you are preacher, full of compassion that’s driving you crazy. You want to give Krishna so you think harder, you’ll find ways and means to introduce Krsna in some form, book form, prasadam form, deity form, chanting dancing form, philosophy form and some culture event form, some kind of membership form get them filled. So, lots of people will fit into, they will like some aspects of Krishna Consciousness or they will like some aspects to some degree, one of the aspect to just little degree, that could be starting then if one is applying that, striving harder to give Krsna, then very few people will be left out, most of the people will somehow fit into one of these categories, one of these aspects of Krsna consciousness and then devotee could also has patience.

One sadhu would go, ‘bhiksamdehi…bhiksamdehi’ bhiksa is not a principle, purpose of visiting homes, but that’s excuse to preach, give us alms, give me alms. So he used to go to one house and that person, whatever he was, communist, atheist or… so he would not, never gave anything, he only drive away this sadhu from his home. One day, this person gave ‘bhiksamdehi’ this person that day he came, he went inside and came out to the door and threw some ashes into his begging bowl or his bag or his kamandalu, so this preacher, sadhu, he became very delighted. Next day, ‘hey! what happen? You are very delighted, so happy, joyful, what happen, did someone gave you some billion dollar in charity?’ and he explained, ‘ this person would never ever give me anything but today! He at least, he thought of giving, what he gave, that don’t ask me! (Laughter); today he gave, he thought of giving and he ended up of giving, he not only thought but he gave it.’ So, he was very happy. So, one of these days he will give the right thing, atleast he thought, he never gave but now he started giving. Maybe he gave wrong thing but one of these days he’ll give the right thing also.

Patience like this, tolerance like that, because Krsna does say after few verse that, ‘na ca tasman manusyesu kascin me priya krttamah’</strong (B.G 18.69) anyone who share this dialogue with others, so that person is very very dear to Me. No one is as dear to Me as that one who shares this dialogue with others. So we want to be dear, preacher wants to be dear to Krsna by giving this, delivering this message to others so that attempt, wanting to become dear to Krsna, then you will do all possible, whatever is possible. The more risk you take for Krsna, Krsna will be more pleased, you'll become more dear, not just easy going and burning desire, house is on fire, the world is on fire, world is the house for so many living entities. So when house is on fire and preacher on war footing, when there is war then everyone takes it very seriously. Even ladies pick up guns, children will begin throwing bombs, that's a war, emergency and the flood, they say Nityananda Prabhu was cutting canal from Mayapur, from the river goes canal into the field, 100 mile distribution of water. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu, preachers they cut the canal flooding. Seeing the flood here, Prabhupada also, Ganga gets flooded, Mayapur flooded, so we should be flooding the whole world with preaching Krsna consciousness or love of Godhead and when the flood or Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Nityananda Prabhu were flooding the world, the faithful people were drowning deeper. The faithless ones were floating at the top. They also had a connection somewhere deeper, somewhat on the surface, so they all affected, influenced to different degrees as the waves come. Seems we have to move on, it’s ok, we move to couples of points more to go and what is this now... Discuss aspects of Srila Prabhupada's mission reflected Bhagavad Gita 13.26 Verse and purport; discuss relevance of these aspects of Srila Prabhupada mission for ISKCON, 13th chapter text 26. Who has Bhagavad Gita? Read the verse. “anye tv evam ajanantahh srutvanyebhya upasate
te pi catitaranty eva mrtyum sruti-parayanah”

Translation: Again there are those who, although not conversant in spiritual knowledge, begin to worship the Supreme Person upon hearing about Him from others. Because of their tendency to hear from authorities, they also transcend the path of birth and death.
This is the preaching, to hear someone speaks, preach to them and they are not very much conversant with spiritual knowledge but they begin worshipping Supreme person just by hearing from others. So because of their tendency to hear from authorities, so their tendency is to be exploited or employed in Krsna consciousness because they like to hear, the tendency to hear from authorities is there. So as they hear, they also transcend the path of birth and death. Purport, who will read? (Purport being read by devotee from the audience).
Purport: This verse is particularly applicable to modern society because in modern society there is practically no education in spiritual matters. Some of the people may appear to be atheistic or agnostic or philosophical, but actually there is no knowledge of philosophy. As for the common man, if he is a good soul, then there is a chance for advancement by hearing. This hearing process is very important.

Lord Caitanya, who preached Kr?s?n?a consciousness in the modern world, gave great stress to hearing because if the common man simply hears from authoritative sources he can progress, especially, according to Lord Caitanya, if he hears the transcendental vibration
“HareKrsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare”

It is stated, therefore, that all men should take advantage of hearing from realized souls and gradually become able to understand everything. The worship of the Supreme Lord will then undoubtedly take place. Lord Caitanya has said that in this age no one needs to change his position, but one should give up the endeavor to understand the Absolute Truth by speculative reasoning. One should learn to become the servant of those who are in knowledge of the Supreme Lord. If one is fortunate enough to take shelter of a pure devotee, hear from him about self-realization and follow in his footsteps, one will be gradually elevated to the position of a pure devotee. In this verse particularly, the process of hearing is strongly recommended, and this is very appropriate. Although the common man is often not as capable as so-called philosophers, faithful hearing from an authoritative person will help one transcend this material existence and go back to Godhead, back to home.
From hearing to back home, you start from hearing- you end up back to home. So, what is the central theme of this verse, what is stressed in this verse? Emphasized hearing, we have tendency to hear. So make sure you don’t hear speculative speculator but you hear from right authority and that right authority mentioned here is what? Pure devotees then you are in business. So all that it takes to attain Krsna, achieve Krsna, develop Krsna consciousness and ultimately, not ultimately but already in the process you transcend the path of birth and death and finally return back to home, back to Godhead “nitya siddhya krishna prema sadhya kabhu nai sravanadi suddha ceete karaha udaya”.

So, does every living entity has potential to love Krsna? Or only selected few? Every single…you close your eyes, you are touching some living entity, you know that one also, is it living entity? yes, yes…i am living entity. And for sure we know he has a potential to love God, serve God, ‘nitya siddha krsna prema, sadya kabhu…’ this prema is not something that its outside some place and then you open some window and put it inside; go to super bazar and buy some kilos of Krsna prema and have it for breakfast. Is that how it works? Or smear it all over the body from outside, like chandan, Krsna prema. So where there is soul, there is Krsna prema, Krsna prema is in the soul, integral part of the soul is Krsna prema, it’s in him. So to revive that, what is recommended here is? ‘sravana adi….’ beginning with sravana, ‘sravana adi’ means sravana and etcetera. Sravana, kirtanam….like that other devotional activities, processes, but the principle one is ‘sravana’ so that is stated and others have been mentioned etcetera…’sravana adi’.

So by hearing from right authorities, pure devotee, from parampara, disciplic succession, hearing then revival, ‘sthito smi gata sandehah’ (B.G 18.73) ready ‘karisye vacanam tava’. This happened to Arjuna, Krsna did whole demonstration, look look Arjuna, in the beginning Krsna is showing the confused Arjuna, bewildered Arjuna, Arjuna shedding tears and Arjuna talking like a pandit. But you are not pandit, look at your face, there is a mirror, you are lamenting, pandit never laments, you are talking like pandit but you cannot be pandit because you are lamenting. So that kind of Arjuna was in the beginning, then He preached, Krsna talked, ‘sishyaste aham’- Now I am your disciple, soul surrendered unto you, instruct me. Krsna instructed and after 45 mins, what happen? One microphone was given to Arjuna (Laughter) what did he said? He said, ‘nasto mohah’- my mohah finished, ‘smrtir labda’- regain my consciousness. And how does this happen? ‘tvat pradan mayacyuta’- You are ‘acyuta’, You are infallible, I was fallen but You lifted me by Your prasada, what is this prasada? not ‘maha prasade govinde’ (Laughter), that’s the only that we think of but he was referring to Bhagavad Gita as the prasada. ‘tvat prasadan’, prasada came right up in Your mouth. As the result, I am situated properly, no more doubts, I had so many doubts in the beginning, I was trembling, ‘gandivam sramsate hastat’ (B.G 1.29)- all limbs were trembling, gandiva was slipping out of my hands, ‘mukham ca parisusyati’- my mouth was drying up, I was not seeing any beneficial coming out of this whole endeavor, ‘na ca sreyo anupayami hatva…(B.G 1.31)

All that he was saying but now, all is finished, now I am settled, situated properly, so what now, ‘karisye vacanam tava’ (B.G 18.73) now I’ll act; now I have knowledge, I will now implement that knowledge. Not that I have knowledge now, let’s take lunch, knowledge I have now, fighting will think afternoon or tomorrow, let’s take lunch, I have understood, was that attitude of Arjuna? What was his attitude, what was his stand? Right now! Now and her I am ready to fight and hare I go and he started and throwing arrows, showering, he didn’t delay, postpone his implementation. He was acting with knowledge he was told. While remembering Me, you fight, not only fight, not only remember, do two things together, while remembering, you fight. Some people only remember, sit down and remember don’t act and some people just act, they don’t remember but Krsna says, ‘mam anusmara yudhyaca tasmat sarvesu kalesu’ (B.G 8.7), while remembering. So Arjuna started doing that, ‘mam anusmara yudhya ca’, so like that.
So Bhagavad Gita was like a demonstration, see what happens. You see now a person in delusion, bewildered, this that now I am going to talk to him and he is going to hear Bhagavad Gita. Ok, he has heard Bhagavad Gita, now Arjuna, what he had to say and he makes the statement and we understand the outcome of hearing, person is transformed, person is properly situated, ready to act in knowledge, equipped with the knowledge, is acting. Hearing has been, Atul Krishna prabhu we were talking yesterday and I was asking him , what do you want to get out of this verse, what is the central theme? He said hearing the knowledge, the truth, the core of heart of ISKCON, that should be central theme going through the body of ISKCON and activities governed by the knowledge, right source, Gita, Bhagavat, parampara of pure devotee.

Srila Prabhupada has given us and never minimizes importance of hearing and chanting, knowledge, activities based on knowledge. So this has to remain a central focus activity; not getting sidetrack sometimes by other charitable kind of nature and he was citing example of salvation army, one of denomination of Christianity. One of the branch or whatever you want to call, in the beginning they were doing some kind of preaching, talking sastras for salvation of people, I think they were getting criticized or what are you doing for the public, doing something practical or philosophical. So, that society, they changed and they got into social welfare activities giving charities, clothes and this and that and there was no more preaching from Bibble and sastras and philosophy, just welfare. ‘manav seva, madhava seva’, ‘daridra narayan’, Narayana has now become daridra, poor Narayana , He is no more Lakshmi Narayana, He is ‘daridhra Narayan, so He needs help, Narayana needs help. Help, help help. Lots of people, lots of organizations, religions and groups are doing that because Christians are doing it. And converting Hindus so to stop that, Hindus are also getting into charitable work, opening hospitals, doing this that. So they are doing, Christians are doing, Hindus are doing charity work, ‘daridhra narayan’.

As a result, the hearing, the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam, the philosophy, whole knowledge is all abandoned, neglected, forgotten, just some sentiments. As a result they could be converted but because they have no knowledge, they don’t want to understand because people don’t have knowledge. Is it possible now, you have become ‘bhakti-sastri’ knowledgeable, some Christians come and want to convert you, is there any possibility? And you will end up tying cross, give up your kanti mala and has a cross around your neck. Rather they will changed because you are convinced that’s ‘nishta’. So people are getting converted because they only ‘ado- shradha’- some shradha, some sentiments, some faith is there but there is no knowledge of the sastras, they are not established, that nishta is not there.

So if you really want to make sure that they are not converted anymore, this hearing and chanting, pure hearing and chanting, not just some ‘karma kanda jnana kanda kevala viseyera bhanda’ -pot of poison is stressed, rituals. So lots of chanting, “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”. Lots of book distribution, lots of talking, hearing, more and more people are involved, exposed to this pure hearing and chanting, to other different functions, media, rathayatras, this that festivals and again giving sharing this knowledge, he is hearing and chanting.

This is the topmost welfare program, living entities topmost welfare is in. Well give them Krishna, hearing and chanting, what is exchanged, take Krsna, give Krsna, this is what happens. The living entities are in bliss happy, so emphasize the importance of hearing and chanting. They take it because they have tendency to hear from authorities, otherwise people are claiming to be authority, becoming some kind of authority, they get on the microphone, come on people, you must be authority! Some position, some political leader, some social leader and people have tendency to hear from authority. So that if they could hear from the right authority, faithfully hearing, faithfully hearing from authoritative person will help one transcend this material existence and go back to home, back to Godhead.

Ok, so I think we should be stopping around now. If there is more, well we’ll catch up that tomorrow. Alright?
Haribol!!!

Attitude of a Preacher

Hari bol!!

“Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya”

So today is very last, this is very last day of the whole session (laughter) time for celebration, finally. You’re happy that you have learned a lot or happy that you’ve finished? Studies never finish I was talking the other day it’s a long life long process, ever learning remain students for rest of your life, keep learning. What is the topic? Surrender. What is the big topic? What is the subject that you study? Or we all study? What is the subject or object of our knowledge? Krishna.

So much to know, every time you know you become joyful properly situated ‘Sthitosmi gata sandeh’ (B.G 18.73) this goes on every day, every day you know more sthitosmi, sthitah-asmi properly situated more properly situated grounded, otherwise ‘kamala-dala-jala jivana talamala’ (Laughter) can’t settle may be tilting, collapsing, sinking, terminating but with the knowledge hearing which is bhakti yoga a person is svarupena, finally ‘sva-rupena vyavasthitih’. Svarup, sva- our, own rupa our own form in relationship with the Lord not that we separately situate ourselves. We situate ourselves at the lotus feet of the Lord. ‘dhuli-sadrisham vichintaya-sthitah, tava pada-pankaja-sthita’ sthiosmi-situated where? At the lotus feet. And acting not just sitting situated sitting acting kayena- acting with the body, manasa-with the mind, budhya-with the intelligence. kevalya indriyerapi- even all the senses are active engaged employed in the service of the Lord. “Yoginah karma kuruvanti” – yogi’s act this is how they become Bhakti yogis. One kind of Yogi’s they are jnani’s, so they attain only shanta-rasa, they are Jnani Bhaktas and they attain shanti, peace.

“The Gopis are never peaceful” (laughter).

Always running where is Krishna where is Krishna? When I am going to see Him? Where I am going to get flowers for Him on the banks of Kusum sarovar. When we meet Him? Is someone going to interrupt our meeting? Or is Madhumangal going to be coming? O! I got rid of Madhu, O! I got rid of Madhu.

You know that pastime at Premasarovar, Madhumangal comes with a stick for bumble bee that was disturbing Kishor-Kishori. He thought why is this bumble bee bothering the divine couple? So he came with a stick and droves it away. And while it was going away, O! I got rid of Madhu I got rid of Madhu. Then Radharani jumps into conclusion that he got rid of my Madhusudan. Finally we had met finally we had met and this rascal Madhumangal he got rid of my Madhusudan. She jumps to that conclusion and she is feeling all vacant without Madhusudan and She is into tears. Krishna was next to Her and He was like I am here I am here, He makes attempt, she was gone no external consciousness she was deep within. So He could not convince that He was next to Her. Seeing Radharani in that sorry state of existence Krishna, He was influenced He was overwhelmed and He was into tears seeing Radharani’s state of mind and the separation. And Radha’s tears and Krishna’s tears they were flowing down they were mixing and flowing and they were filling up a lake. Filling up a whole lake with tears of Radha and Krishna. So that lake is still there today in between Barsana and Nandgaon. That lake is called Prema sarovar. So the Gopis life is not that peaceful.

So Bhakti yogis are busy engaging their body, mind, intelligence, sense whatever else is in their possession. So ‘tvadiya vastu govinda tubhyam- eva samarpaye’, this is the attitude, we are talking of attitude or person in knowledge he comes to conclusion that ‘Tvadiya vastu Govinda’ Hey! Govind all these vastu all these things in my possession are yours. Hence what do I do? I offer them back to You. Engage them in your service. Oh! Then I become free become liberated. Otherwise it’s just big burden. Some people don’t mind that burden they go on increasing burden.

Srila Prabhupada once told humorous story of an old lady carrying a big bundle of stick. Wind coming blew away her bundle of sticks. Started telling ‘Please Please God wherever you are please appear here. When God appeared, ‘Yes lady what could I do for you? Please help. Don’t you see this bundle of stick this is mine I had collected them. Please help so God was helping kept the bundle on head, lady was in business and Bye!..(Laughter).
The Karmis or others may not offer everything to the Lord. They may need help just to increase their burden. Karma, karma is performed by karmis and Karmis are into furtive activities furtive results. So there is karma mishra and jnana mishra. The knowledgeable person as we heard this morning Kapil dev instructs his mother he performed devotional service, surrender everything unto the Lord it is His.

“Appropriate attitude of a preacher in reference to Nectar of Devotion”

Here is the attitude, the author of Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Srila Rupa Gosvami, very humbly submits that he is just trying to spread Krishna consciousness all over the world, although he humbly thinks himself unfit for this work. So we are Rupanugas, anuga means one who goes after Acharyas, go and then anu behind you go then you become Prabhupadanuga –Rupanuga- Acharyanuga.

So “sri-caitanya-mano-bhistam sthapitum yena bhtu-tale, svayam rupah kada mahyam dadati sva-padantikam”. So Rupa goswami and like him the other Acharyas they know ‘Sri Caitanya mano abhistam’- what is on the mind of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu they know. Caitanya Mahaprabhu was reciting very confidential verse at the time of rathayatra. It was in the mind of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and later on Caitanya Mahaprabhu found out the kutir of Rupa goswami He found a piece of paper maybe some leaf and that verse which He was thinking of was found He was surprise, how come, and who is it? Who read my mind? And there was none other than Rupa goswami. That time when Mahaprabhu had arrived at Rupa goswami’s kutir Rupa goswami was in the ocean taking his noon bath and as he returned, are you the one? Is this yours? So Rupa goswami had access to the mind of Caitanya Mahaprabhu- Sri Caitanya mano abhistam. Because Lord is cause of all causes including this one, Caitanya Mahaprabhu revealed this verse into the heart of Rupa Goswami.

So Acharyas they know the mind of the Lord, mission of the Lord they execute the mission. But they always humbly think that they are unfit to do this work. That should be the attitude of all preachers in Krishna conscious movement. That is all you all are preachers propagators of Krishna consciousness. Brahmins, learned brahmins and pandits what does pandit Brahmin do? Pathan-paathan. Pathan-paathan he studies and he teaches this is a primary function of brahmin. Adhyan-Adhyapan studying shastras keeping his life simple not complicating otherwise he will have to work. There is no time of studies, no time for sharing the knowledge. So he keeps his life simple bare minimum necessities. His thoughts are high; life is simple, simple living high thinking.

So what is high thinking? What is highest thought?

Krishna Conscious related thoughts, Krishna’s thoughts in Bhagvat Gita this is high thinking, Bhagvatam this is high thinking. So when those high thoughts are there then we could also one could also manage with simple living without high thinking simple living is not possible it’s difficult. Those who wish to be live simple simply not just simply living (laughter) simple living and simply living there is difference. So you should take note of what is high thinking. We keep on saying high thinking high thinking simple living high thinking, what is high thinking? Krishna consciousness. Think like God thinking like god, so our father is our Lord of course just little fraction of all that God things we could, we have limits we could only choose so much, store only so much thoughts accumulate, assimilate or capability capacity small same thought just some bits of those thoughts God’s thoughts. God’s thought thinking like God, Godly person who becomes godly doesn’t become god. He becomes godly because his thoughts are like God. They are good godly then they are good for that person who is thinking and others those who come into his contact those who listen to him whole welfare.

We should never think of ourselves as great preacher but should always consider that we are simply instrumental to the previous acharyas and simply by following in their footsteps we may be able to do something for benefit of suffering humanity, so that kind of attitude. We are never independent we are dependent or interdependent or independently thoughtful. Prabhupada said he would like to see his followers independently thoughtful. Srila Prabhupada that Markine Bhagvata and Srila Prabhupada is in Boston and when he saw people in Boston when he saw the rat race. Like a rat people are moving backwards and forwards. Srila Prabhupada is there with the Caption Pandey of the Jaladuta boats captain- ‘Swamiji come we’ll go for a little walk.’ This is the first time Srila Prabhupada has touched the land of America, land of opportunities they say. By seeing the mood of the people there and Prabhupada was like oh! These people are not even stopping. How do I preach? But Lord You have brought me here and my Guru maharaj has desired that I go to the west and preach Krishna Consciousness in English language. And Prabhupada started praying he gets on the boat. Now boat is going from Boston to New York. Srila Prabhupada is with pen and paper in boat and he is writing.

“nachao prabhu nachao nachao sei mate ami to kasteir putali” – I am just a puppet in your hand my dear Lord make me dance Oh ! Lord make me dance as you feel make me dance, let me talk or dance as you feel. My name is Bhaktivedanta now you have to prove, do something so that Bhakti and Vedanta, I am supposed to be equipped with Bhakti and Vedanta the conclusion of the Vedas are known to this person he is embodiment of bhakti. So you get something done through me use me. That’s the mood he is praying to his Guru maharaj, praying to Shri Krishna. And always giving credit to his Guru maharaj ‘MY GURU MAHARAJ MY GURU MAHARAJ’. I am sure you have heard Srila Prabhupadas lectures when he makes reference to his guru maharaj the way he says “my Guru Maharaj” with his heart. He is proud and heartful, mouthful my guru mahraj and that if there is anything miraculous you are seeing westerners have taken to Krishna consciousness this is mercy of My Guru Maharaj. I feel his presence always as if My Guru Maharaj is next to me and asking me to do this do that he is watching.

Oh! Why he is Bhavktivedanta Swami Maharaj he passes by Bhaktisiddhant sarasvati Samadhi whenever he comes to Kolkata to Mayapur he does not get out, he doesn’t pay respect to his guru maharaj samadhi some of god brothers. Srila Prabhupads god brothers making comment like this and finally these comments reaches Prabhupada and (bang on the table) what do they think my guru maharaj and he is always next to me. So whether every time he got out of the car and offered his obeisance’s not, he said always my guru maharaj is next to me. He is present he is guiding me I feel his presence.

“krsna se tomara, krsna dite paro, tomara sakati ache, ami to kangala, krsna krsna boli, dhai tava pache pache”. This is the mood of the preacher or a follower, he humbly submits that Krishna is with you, you have Krishna you have Krishna, and you are competent to give that Krishna to me hence I am running after you ‘dhai tava pache pache’. I am just pauper and have no good qualities I am just made up of your mercy. All these quotes our Acharyas have beautifully written sung in the poetry of Bhaktivinod, Narottam Das thakur. So simply by following in their footsteps we may to do something for the benefit of suffering humanity. So on our own we don’t do nothing much, we are we do on behalf of our previous acharyas, our spiritual master then we are empowered and we are able to accomplish something. That mood is not there then we are cut off then dry branch of the Caitanya tree (laughter). That branch may be still on the tree and acting in some way but it is all dry. Not only the branch should be part of the trunk of the tree all the juice going through it then leaves and the flowers and the fruits and then one offers that to others. Ok so just little glimpse of that mood, we were contemplating our attitude appropriate attitude of the preacher of Krishna Consciousness.

And then what happens today were you given some home work? Ok. Students reading assignment Bhagvat Gita chapter 18 verse is 56 all the way to the end of the chapter. And then it says identify and discuss the relevant significance verses mentioned in the Bhagvat Gita that section last chapter. This sections this group of verses. So you have studied all these verses? What does that mean you have memorized kanthastha? Learned by heart or Learned by throat? Yeah these are really wonderful verses. One should put oneself himself at the position of Arjun and listen hear Bhagvat Gita.

Bhagvat Gita is targeted towards each one of us.

Then Arjun is asking question they are like our question. We don’t even know how to ask or what question to be asked. Arjun is doing all that perfect questions perfect answers that is what this dialogue is Bhagvat Gita. World has heard or seen how many dialogue right now how many dialogue are going on in the world? 100? (Laughter) everywhere every nook and corner wherever you go. On the earth, in the ocean, on the trees, in the sky, in the heaven, in the hell. Talk on mobile has become cheaper now so people are just talking talk it up Chat, chatting talk is cheap talking has become cheap now. Because it cost less talk is becoming cheaper and cheaper there is no quality no substance of people no quality people are just talking not even thinking just talking. They use to say just do it now it’s just talk it. So these are all dialogues they are all conversations and then this world has experienced one extra ordinary dialogue“samvadam imam adbhutam” that wonderful, astounding, amazing, divine conversation and that is this Bhagvat Gita.

“gita sugita kartavya kim anyaih sastra-vistaraih” what is the need of any other conversation any other dialogue any other sastra this is “ekam sastram devaki-putra-gitam”- One sastra is enough, one scripture is enough Bhagvat Gita.

So the Lord had come He did come and if He had gone and returned to His own abode without giving Bhagavt Gita then what would we be doing? Lord will stay on His spiritual sky and we would stay here on and on and on… He wanted us to follow Him. Get out of here go back to Him and to do that He has left this message behind in the form of Bhagvat Gita, Haribol Haribol Haribol. Meaning what? Spirit soul. So anyone wants to make some comments? Observations? You found something significant got some realization which you would like to share with us?

(Devotee asking question about sikha and feeling sleepy in class) (Maharaj says) It might be boring my presentation; you should tie your Shikha to the fan there and put it on, fan on (Laughter). In good old days the gurukulies they use to have their shikhas tied. So you are not the first one and only one it’s a tradition. Ya ok, you want something which will wake you up? Once and for all when you think you have to when you stop thinking then. One mantra wakes you up in ISKCON they say ‘maha-prasade govinde’ you wake up ‘Om namo bhagavate’ (Laughter).

Yes Prabhu (another devotee asking question) well, lot of time you are given instruction to do this. Spiritual master they give general instructions and he gives some specific instruction do this or do padayatra or print books or distribute books or preach in English language. Yes do scientific preaching life comes from life and not matter prove this to the dull headed scientist otherwise kick on their face. So once you are given this assignment and you are in the field to accomplishing it and this is when the attitude that we just talked about you are not independent. Because this activity of preaching is not a mundane material activity mercy factor is there. And current has to flow from Krishna to whole disciplic succession to you then you are empowered. “krsna-sakti vina nahe tara pravartana” what is the other part? “kali-kalera dharma hari nama-sankirtana” dharma for this age of kali is nama sankirtan and to propagate this sankirtan movement “krsna-sakti vina nahe tara pravartana” Krishna is shakti.

By mercy of spiritual master we get that shakti we get intelligence whatever it takes to do it.

As soon as again we think we think we are the doers I am the doer I don’t need anybody I can do myself and pride and all that then whole flow of that energy, flow of empowerment is blocked then your mind becomes a bad conductor. Electricity when it flows there some wires and metals are good conductor it is said some are bad conductor they creates resistance something that is flowing and something else resists it protects it or blocks it from flowing or coming to you. When fan has regulator and regulator is on 5 so fan is? (Fuhhhh) fastest speed so what does that what is happening there? What regulator is doing? Least resistance so current is coming from power house and to those wires and to your house. So the regulator on 5 means allows current to flow whatever current is coming all supplied to that fan. If it is in the middle it is blocked only so much current is allowed to go to the fan and move the fan. If it is on 1 it’s more resistance more blockage only little leakage little flow is allowed and then fan moves also slow and then when it is on 0 complete blockage and no flow of current, fan is there everything is there whole setup is there but no movement because everything is blocked.

So this attitude of mind intelligence how that function what we think or what is our mood with that either we allow parampara to act through us or we block that whole energy or flow whole mercy whole intelligence and then your pride and your this. So our capacity to function one could accomplish so much we should not think I could do only so much but if you allow Krishna to work through us than unlimited. See how much Prabhupada accomplished so it wasn’t just 70 year old man who is penny less and friend less as he appears externally. But he was neither penny-less he had wealth of the holy name and he was not friend less he had best friend with him that is Krishna and the holy name. Just see how much was accomplished otherwise this is 70 year old man who doesn’t even leave home what to speak of going overseas and.. Hmm is that enough?

(Another question from a devotee) Start thinking and a simple life would be a byproduct which you just follow. If you keep thinking high think of Krishna your bodily concept would be nil or just to keep body and soul together kind of philosophy and if that’s not the case than all the lust, all the greed, all the anger of the world will take over and there is no end to how much you have to accumulate to fulfill the desires. So this Mr. Anger Prabhupada says- Mr. Lust and he has younger brother he said called anger. ‘kamat krodho bhijayate’ (BG 2.62) from kama comes from krodha so first there is kama- lust and then from lust comes anger.

So this world is very busy it is accumulating and there is no end to all that greed. One thing is a need, Mahatma Gandhi said need is ok so basic need you need some little shelter, few set of cloth, food to eat like that basic needs you have right to fulfill your needs. But when the greed is taken over there is no end to it. So they try to do this family planning they try to decrease the number of people on the planet or in the country. So they think that each one will have enough if less people X amount of wealth. People are less so each one gets little more share let’s cut down the population cut down. But that is not really the solution. Finally say there are only 2 people cutting down cutting down now only 2. What do those 2 people think? You will think 2 is too many, 2 person is too many there should be only 1 and that’s me. Because you know I have to share 50:50 he gets the half of the wealth of the country or the planet goes to him only half I get. This is not fare because the condition soul ‘ishvaro aham’ that’s the disease. I am the controller and he is competing he is competing with the Lord right? Unknowingly living entity is competing with the Lord. So as much Lord has, no I should have that much. I cannot be half Lord I want to be full Lord. So if this high thinking is not there, proper thinking is not there Krishna Conscious thinking teachings of Bhagvat Gita one has not learned then there is no end. You are high living lifestyle and death style even I will die in a style.

(Question by a devotee) what does he say there and what verse is He saying? ‘yathecchasi tatha kuru’ (B.G 18.63) Krishna is Krishna may be giving option but we don’t. I was just listening it’s said that the spiritual master is more merciful than Krishna in one sense that Krishna gives choice but spiritual master just do the right thing just do this. Not this or that it goes ill together the spiritual life and material life and sense gratification and sinful life goes ill together. We cannot have one foot in one boat and one foot in another boat. It is very awkward. So you have to take off the foot from the other boat and just be in a boat that is going back to home we are going back to home tin tin tin tin some devotees play guitar we are going back to home (Singing).
So that means they have to come on this boat. Yeah so I mean first we encourage them to practice this devotional service high thinking and then they will give up the lower nature lower thinking. So when those young American boys and girls the early followers they were coming there were no screening on the door only pure devotees come in everyone else out, everyone was welcome and everyone was encouraged to chant and dance and sit down little philosophy and Prabhupada was personally feeding them prasad cooked by him, offered by him even washing pots afterwards. Then at certain point he introduced 4 regulative principle and those who wish to follow will join our mission you have to follow regulative principle are you ready? And they were ready by that time. So that is all step by step approach brings them higher and higher and higher.

So we know what the goal is ‘bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yas casmi tattvata?’ (B.G 18.55) to know tattvatah. Lord is stressing herein verse 55 ‘tato mam tattvato jnatva’ one who knows Me tattvatah is very important to know tattva, siddhanta, philosophy or things as they are, then that person will enter ‘visate tad-anantaram’. “sarva-karmany api sada kurvano mad-vyapasrayah mat-prasadad avapnoti sasvatam padam avyayam” (B.G 18.56). So then that person will attain final destination eternal destination that’s Lord’s abode. ‘cetasa sarva-karmani’ (B.G 18.57) so with all intelligence full Krishna Consciousness you render all services ‘sarva-karmani sannyasya’, sannyasya giving up whatever is false.

‘buddhi-yogam upasritya mac-cittah satatam bhava” (B.G 18.57)

‘mac-cittah’ means Krishna consciousness in your chetana there is Krishna mac-cittah. I am in your consciousness you become like that 24 hours a day Prabhupada is translating ‘mac-cittah sarva-durgani mat-prasadat tarisyasi’(B.G 18.58) . So by Lord’s grace ‘mat-prasadat sarva-durgani’ durga, ga means going and du means dushkar very difficult to go or cross over transcend. So ‘mat-prasadat’–by my mercy you will be able to overcome. ‘atha cet tvam ahankaran na srosyasi vinanksyasi’ but you don’t listen to me because of your pride this is like towards the end, Krishna has been talking for past 40 minutes few more minutes to go before He would conclude His conversation then He says because of false ego if you don’t listen to Me then you will be lost.
‘yad ahankaram asritya na yotsya iti manyase’(B.G 18.59) I will not fight because if your false pride if you would take that stand I will not fight then by my nature you will have to be engaged in warfare and whole purport and nice things explained. Everyone has a propensity he is a kshatriya so fighting is natural for him. So if he doesn’t fight for Krishna doesn’t use his propensity for Krishna then he will use it for something else he will kill some sparrows some birds. It is in the blood in the system if he doesn’t do for Krishna then ‘isvarah sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese arjuna tisthati’ (B.G 18.61) very nice verse “bhramayan sarva-bhutani yantrarudhani mayaya” isvarah although isvarah parmeshwar Himself is talking so Krishna is talking as if you know He is Isvarah. Isvarah sarva-bhutanam, isvarah stays in the heart of all the living entity. He doesn’t say I reside elsewhere off course He had said that ‘aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate’.

“aham isvarah sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese”- desh also means country isvarah stays in a country called heart ‘hrd-dese’ this is a desh there is a one nationality one country called hridaya heart and isvarah, isvara resides there. Sarva-bhutanam and only yantra mentioned by Lord in Bhagvat Gita is body is yantra and soul is riding on that yantra and yantra is made up of maya and wandering around and isvarah is also next to him.

‘tam eva saranam gaccha’ tam-eva who is tam? to that ‘isvarah sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese arjuna’, tam unto that Lord or ‘tam eva saranam gaccha’ gaccha- go because he is scared of me (laughter) Kamsa says because he is scared he is gone into cave in the heart of living entity he is hiding and Shiva is in cremation ground and Bramha is this he is talking about and his followers are doing all this flattery, o! you are such a hero and we are with you. You don’t have to worry about this Vishnu don’t worry about this. Ya, so even they knew where the Lord is residing.

‘tat-prasadat param santim sthanam prapsyasi sasvatam’ (B.G 18.62) So shanti sthanam the abode of peace is Lord is achieved as one surrenders unto Him. Now He says I am going to tell you ‘guhyad guhya-taram maya’ I have explained confidential or even more confidential knowledge unto you. You should contemplate ‘vimrsyaitad asesena’ take your time deliberate upon all that I have said to you and then ‘yathecchasi tatha kuru’. Yes I know you have minute independence I am not going to force you, you have independence so fight -not fight it is up to you. That minute independence so Lord is giving there’s a scope to exercise that.

‘man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru’ (B.G 18.65) now this is called guhyatamam this statement ‘sarva-guhyatamam bhuyah srnu me paramam vacah’ (18.64) Now I have spoken something guhya confidential I say something guhyatar- something more confidential but now I am going to talk guhyatamam the most confidential. And what is that most confidential thing? ‘man mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru mam evais?yasi satyamte pratijane priyo si me’ come to me and man-mana four times here. Lord says, you do four things but every time He says His name is attached, man mana your mind fixed upon Me. ‘Man mana bhava mad bhakto’ take notes of this mad bhakta, man mana mad bhakta become My devotee. Mad-yaji when it comes to offering offer worship, worship Me. Mam namaskuru and obeisance’s also unto Me.

So there is no room for speculation it’s very clear person who is standing before Arjun just remember Me. Become My devotee, worship Me and your obeisance’s unto Me. And if you did so then? Mam evaisyasi, you will achieve Me. And this is the truth and I promise and I well because I love you I like you Arjun. So you come back to me, I would like you to come back to Me. And for sure you will come back I promise this so as we said we can put ourselves in the shoes or in position of Arjun and Lord is talking to us. You will you will come to Me ‘mam evaisyasi satyam’ there was no need for Lord to say I am speaking the truth because all that Lord speaks is only truth and nothing else but the truth.

Trisatyam Lord is described by those demigods when Lord was appearing in Mathura those prayers. And then now “sarva dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja” so give up Christianity give up Islam is it saying that? Yes or no? Give up or not give up? Give up Christianity? No could it refer is it possible? They did not even exist. Buddhism is 2500 years old. Krishna did not say but well it’s a big subject matter.

(Devotee asking question) well quickly in the first chapter Arjuna is concerned about different dharmas. Jaati dharma this dharma that dharma and whole first chapter Arjuna is talking about different obligations towards society towards that. So Krishna is -give up that all those dharma’s because those dharmas were keeping Arjuna from battling or fighting those things were coming in the way of executing the will of the Lord, which is devotional service of the Lord. So give up all those dharma’s then He had said when appears ‘dharma samsthapanarthaya’ Lord had just said I appear to establish dharma and next thing He says give up varieties of dharma. So there is some distinction Lord appears to establish the principles of dharma but there are some principles which are to be given up or secondary but then dharma is mentioned OK give up all the varieties of religion then what do I do?. ‘mam ekam saranam vraja’ that is dharma ‘mam ekam saranam vraj’ that is dharma. And everything else that comes in between stops you from surrendering unto Krishna including demigod worship, karmakanda, jnanakanda, this kanda that kandakevala vishera bhand they are part of the shastras then finally there was Gita and Bhagvat we were hearing this morning.

“So Bhagvatam has made easy only Bhakti no other thing”

So goal is to come to the level of bhakti. Bhakta performs bhakti and achieves Bhagavan so that’s the dharma of the soul. The soul is bhakta he performs bhakti devotional service and achieves bhagavan is Supreme Personality of Godhead. So everything extra and all that neeti and morality and this obligation that obligation that has to be given up. Jnana mishra and karma mishra bhakti.

“anyabhilasita-sunyam jnana-karmady-anavrtam anukulyena krsnanu-silanam bhaktir uttama”.
“na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va jagad-isha kamaye mama janmani janmanishvare bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi”.

So this verse is also talking ‘na dhanam na janam na sundari’ this is no karma I don’t want to be karmi enjoy life this aspect that aspect and life and perform this yagya and get a beautiful wife and beauty or elevation to higher planets. I am not into that na dhanam this karma and karmi results of karma furtive activities which is part of dharma which is part of the sashtra, compete package it is there is listed. And then ‘mama janmani janmanishvare’ no karma no jnana ‘mama janmani janmanishvare’ I don’t want liberation either. I don’t want to be karmi furtive worker no karma no jnana and result of it liberation. Janmani janmani, I am willing to take birth I don’t mind taking birth but in each birth I would aspire for one thing and that is ‘bhaktir ahaituki tvayi’. Aspire for bhakti what kind of bhakti ahaituki tvayi no no motivation no ya it’s causeless devotional service.

So this dhanam janam this karma and this to mukti this is a part of a complete package of dharma. So some of these things are to be given up and that is ‘sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam’. So with this we will have to look at Quran as we look at Puran also. Some other things from puran are to be given up to go higher or to achieve the final destination Golok or Krishna’s lotus feet. So likewise we have to give up, Quran for sure they do stress on one, no demigods the cleansing is done some kind of ‘sarva dharman paritayajya’ and that aspect the demigod they did the marjanam, even at the time of Mohammad when he appeared they were worshipping some kind of 600 demigods they still have the list of 600. So they stress one of course impersonal for sure, they just have wall and they offer obeisances, there is no altar or no form.

‘mam janmani janmani ishware’ – I don’t want liberation, I am ready to take birth after birth, I don’t aspire to become liberated merge in Brahman, which is result of jnana, the jnanis are they have Brahman realization, merging into Brahman. Don’t mind taking birth but in each birth devotional service. Ok so this topic is big topic ‘sarva dharman parityajya’ this is the crux of the matter, in fact if this could be understood we should be understanding this thoroughly well this is like the essence. We should clear on what is Lord is talking about ‘Mam Ekam Saranam Vraja’.

Sometimes there is comment about this vraja, vraja means to go, vraj also means Brajmandal you go to Brajamandal. You take shelter of Braj and go to Braj. Give up all mundane material world just go to Braj, go to Vrindavan or go to Mayapur same. This Braj is equal to Mayapur and Braj non different. Love thy Lord with all their heart with all their strength. This is Bible, talking about love but then they also talk of, oh! Lord give us our daily bread. And Prabhupada said this is ofcourse that could be like “arto jijnasur artharthi jnani ca bharatarsabha” (B.G 7.16) 4 kinds of people come to me, those who are in need of artha some economic development.

So Srila Prabhupada was one time few of us were there in Mumbai and just before we were to leave for preaching he was explaining the difference that they pay to Lord O! God to give us or daily bread not pure. He appreciated at least they are approaching God but then he cited the example of Yashoda. Yashoda feeds bread and butter to the Lord. If He doesn’t come on time then she goes with a stick (laughter). Bread is ready butter is ready, instead you asking or begging give us daily bread, give us bread and butter. Here devotees says God eat bread butter.

So they are some seeds you will find in Quran and bible. Even 99 names of Allah are mentioned in Quran. That’s why when they chant on beads their beads have 99 beads not 108 because 99 names. But ‘namaste saraswati deve gaura-vani-pracharine nirvishesha-shunyavadi pashchatya-desha-tarine ‘. So trouble is with Hinduism included and Buddhism for sure and this Islam and Christianity this is all impersonalize voidism the karmi the karma you will find some karma in Puran and Quran as well. Jnana you will find there as well furtive activities. So in that sense this is to be given up, if the Hinduism is to be given up. I mean the essence of Hinduism is Krishna Consciousness. Whatever is not a substantial there is something secondary or something so those things are to be given up. And then you get something in return and that is ‘mam eka’, ekam-we. And we were hearing this morning they are so many incarnations of the Lord so Bhagavan but svayam Bhagavan is “ete camsa-kala? pumsah k?snas tu bhagavan svayam” (S.B 1.3.28). So there is difference between Bhagavan and svayam Bhagavan. So here svayam Bhagavan is ekam.

“Have you seen our Krishna?”

Krishna took temporarily form of Narayan and stepped in front of them and Namo Narayana they offer their obeisance and inquired, have you seen Krishna? And then this so called Narayan heard this enquiry, “have you seen our Krishna?” This Narayana could not maintain His position (laughter). So Gopis kind of dragged Krishna from Narayana He was just playing doing little drama in humors ways, He added some hands here and there. He had hidden his flute but when heard their enquiry, “have you seen our Krishna?” Krishna ‘mam ekam’ their Krishna had to appear and His hands were dropped off. Krishna takes His flute and played the flute. So ‘mam ekam’ and then ok He did not make any progress.

And then after that ‘mam ekam sharanam’ yesterday we were dealing with Krishna don’t preach to those who are not austere and at least four conditions were mentioned. Those who are not into devotional service, those who are not bhaktas, those who are envious to them do not preach. And then, but He says those who preach they become very dear to Me. And Oh! Dhananjay you have heard this with attentive mind. He is again enquiring Arjun all that I am talking now have you heard did you hear with attention? You are with Me? You are focused? He is enquiring like that. We also have to see whether we were focused. So is your ignorance and illusion now dispelled? And this will happen only when hearing was with attention, focused. Result of such hearing oral reception receiving Krishna through ears. Seeing Lord also with the help of ears, we don’t see much with eyes, see with the ears. So have you done this? In response to that Arjun says yes yes, I did it. And as a result now “nas?o mohah” we talked yesterday or day before about that but we have been talking “O! Infallible one, my illusion is now gone, I have regained my memory by your mercy this has happened”. And I am now firm and free from doubt and I am prepared to act according to your instructions and dialogue ends there.

So there is no need whole talk started in the middle of the battle early morning hours on Moksada Ekadasi day at sun rise time Krishna had to talk army ready to go conch shells are being blown. And then Krishna had to get into this conversation because Arjun Dhanurdhar he is dharurdhar but not ready to fight. But now he is ready to fight so no need to talk further so Krishna stops.

As soon as Arjun yes ‘karisye vacanam tava’ then everything has stopped. So officially the dialogue the samvad ends here between Krishna and Arjun and you could count sometimes someone has counted Dhritarashtra speaks once only and Sanjay spoke so many verses Arjun I think some 70 or verses are somebody saying 80? So sounds 70-80 I forgot the exact numbers so there is number like that and then Krishna has spoken over 600 verses and then Sanjay is another dialogue going on his dialogue ended Kurukshetra dialogue has come to an end but Hastinapur continue. So this Sanjay uvaca is talking in Hastinapur and ‘roma-harshanam’. And what is happening to him as he was hearing? The hair standing on end as I have heard this conversation then he says I was able to hear this conversation “vyasa-prasadac chrutavan” (B.G 18.75) you should take note of this Sanjay says I was able to hear because of the mercy of Srila Vyasadev because Srila Vyasadev gave that extra ordinary power to see and hear this was given to Sanjay.
He was ready to give it to Dhritarashtra himself but Dhritarashtra declined, no no if I see now I’ll be seeing distraction of my sons only. So better I remain blind then Vyasadev had given special vision power, doordarshan television to Sanjay and this is ‘vyasa prasadaC’ I was able to hear directly ‘yogesvarat k?snat’ directly from Krishna I have heard and as I keep hearing this samvad ‘adbhut samvad drishyami’ I am becoming very joyous, Jolly happy. I take great pleasure and punah punah again and again as I remember also remember that “rupam adbhutam’ hari’s form. He is coming to my mind. And vismayah wonderful “hr?yami ca puna? puna?” and I am enjoying. So these are the reactions responses of Sanjay who also was a witness to this conversation he was directly hearing and relating that with Dhritarashtra.

In the beginning Dhritarashtra enquired “Kim kurvat sanjay” First verse chapter one text one ‘O! Sanjay please tell me please tell me’. What did they do? So what did they do? Means who is winning who is losing the battle? So this is beauty of Bhagvat Gita the circle is getting completed. The note on the note that Bhagvat Gita started now it is ending on that note. And Sanjay is reply to Dhritarashtra he says wherever or you wanted to know Kim kurvat what is happening at the battle and I must tell this to you. And wherever this Yogesvar Krishna and this partha this dhanurdhatra there you will see 4 things ‘tatra srir vijayo bhutir dhruva nitir matir mama’ (B.G 18.78). As far as my mati goes my intelligence functions as far as I know the shastras and have done experience I must tell you this that who is going to be victorious who will win in the battle? Because battle is just now starting but he is ready to give the conclusion from his experience.

“Their victory is guaranteed”

Although this battle is going be won by? Arjun party. “Pandavas vijayastu pandu-putranam yesham pakshe janardana”. Vijayastu pandu putranam. So Pandu putra’s vijay is guaranteed. Sons of Pandu will be victorious why? Esham pakshe janardhana, Janardhana is on their side, so their victory is guaranteed. So this is wise man like Sanjay could from their experience their realization they could draw conclusion like this. And the first word of Bhagvat Gita is? “Dharma” last word is “mama” so this Bhagvat Gita is mama dharma my dharma. This is Krishna’s my dharma. I have given this dharma. My dharma is Bhagvat Gita. Laws of the Lord, dharma is laws of the Lord. Laws are given by Me in Bhagvat Gita from “dharma to mama”. First word Dharma last word Mama in between it is dharma mama dharma.
So “6 items of Surrender” someone could write 6 items of surrender? Who knows what are they one by one? Ok

Whatever is favorable you accept that’s first, of course listing is one thing it’s not easy to know what is favorable there could be big debates and fights on what is favorable

2) Whatever is unfavorable you reject. Kick out that’s easy right? That’s how it is again same thing discrimination determining what is unfavourable. Because mind is going to be playing big role always accept -reject ‘sankalpa-vikalpa’ at every moment mind is doing this. So above the mind is? Intelligence, and above that is soul and super soul. So with the help of Caitya guru and with the help of our superiors Spiritual Master we’ll have to come to right conclusions what is unfavorable for me. What is favorable for me? Food for someone could be poison for others. Each varna each ashram that quite of wide variety of list. Favorable list unfavorable acceptance rejection.

3) Having firm faith that Krishna will protect. We struggle even in does God exist? Then we have to get over that first. Does God exist? So not only god exists but He will protect us, that’s the sign of Surrender.

4)Krishna is only maintainer our only Visvambhar, Vishvambhar ok maintenance is also His portfolio G.O.D – He is Generator He is Operator He is Destroyer. So God Vishnu maintains Krishna maintains specially maintenance of our devotion not just feed our body which animal’s bird’s bodies are also fed and eating sleeping is going on. Our maintenance devotee maintenance is not just soap and toothbrush and life insurance these days you are working on. ‘Yogakshena vahavyam’ so it’s not just material needs but body mind soul has needs and maintenance.

5) Self surrender -full surrender, ‘atma nikshep’ OK what is atma nikshep? Fully surrender as per His wishes you act.

6) And on the top of that we have to be humbl
e, is that difficult? How big is the soul? Not big. By nature we are humble by nature we are humble but we take false position being centre of the universe.

Question: Is there difference between to maintain and protect?

One is maintain and one is protect are part of this, there is difference subtle difference.
Question: All these are symptoms of Surrender and one of the items there is surrender so what is the difference?
Answer: Fully surrender it says, yes Bali Maharaj surrendered everything surrendered everything other things are different from that being humble is also surrender. When the thief surrenders to the police, he agrees to surrender I am going to surrender my gun, I am going to surrender my stealing robbing tendencies and you just order me I will act as per your wishes and we’ll listen to you. So we are also some kind of culprits like that disobeying the laws of the Lord disobedient stubborn what not. So we want to surrender, our wealth also everything.

‘tvadiya vastu govindam tubhyameva samarpaye’ –all belongs to You
, lets offer back to You. Take humble position means also we are surrendering that ignorance taking a false position of being somebody “ishvaro aham” as soon as you become humble then ishvaro aham that bhava you have surrendered that bhava that attitude or false pride you are renouncing you are giving up kicking it is unfavorable also. You may say whatever is unfavorable you reject so this Ishwar bhava is unfavorable you also give that out. As you give it up you become humble is also sign of surrender. They are interrelated as they explained like that and the result ‘mam ekam sharanam vraj’ kind of surrender. “Sarvadharman paritagya” give up varities of religion or so called religion or secondary principle of religion give up.

So that is also giving up “anukulyasya sankalpah pratikulyasya varjanam” whatever is ‘pratikul’- against contrary ‘varjanam’- give up. So I think we have as I said we have a limit I think we have to now move on to the next topic. Of you doesn’t mind ok what is the next one?

“Substantiate the importance of surrender to Krishna through the bonafied Spiritual Master, coming in disciplic succession appropriate reference to the shastras”

Transparent via media is Spiritual Master

Transparent- what is transparent? You could see through you look at spiritual master and you see through him. Who do you see? Krishna he shows you Krishna or you see through him Krishna he doesn’t block your vision. Others could be acting like a cloud you are here and the cloud in the middle sun is other side and you don’t see sun anymore. ‘Krishna surya sam’ He is also like a sun Krishna is like a sun. So some people come in the middle especially women comes in the middle or men could come in the middle something comes in the middle and you are illusioned. Your ignorance and darkness you stop seeing, you go blind I mean one little entity is enough to keep, just see the power of maya. “balampashyame mayaya” Kapil dev said to mother just see the power of my Maya specially in the form of women “strimay yam” just one women or one men or someone he could be keeping you away from the Lord. But then Spiritual master comes in the picture comes in front of you and he doesn’t block your path or vision no illusion you see through him with his help everything becomes clear ‘cakhu-dan dilo jei, janme janme prabhu sei divya-jnan hrde prokasito’.Divya jnana transcendental knowledge is revealed.

So this is the Lord’s arrangement. With the help of this arrangement this is big part of dharma infrastructure the whole facilitation that Lord does so that living entity conditioned soul is freed sadhus and shastras acharyas. The Guru the Spiritual Master has a big role to play and Krishna says surrender unto Me, Prabhupada says there is no difference if Krishna says surrender unto Me and spiritual master says surrender to Krishna. He is not talking; this is as it is Bhagvat Gita as it is. For some other so called spiritual master may one day declare I am God, don’t look beyond me, don’t look through me, some one behind me. So then such so called guru has to be rejected. He is unfavorable sign of surrender whatever is unfavorable you reject. Again Bali Maharaj rejected Shukracharya he was not letting Bali Maharaj surrender unto Vaman dev he rejected spiritual master because he was acting low some motivated or not transparent. The importance of surrender could be the “tad viddhi pranipatena” (B.G 4.34).
So Krishna has personally recommended this, so this is Lords divine scheme strategy arrangement and there are different spiritual masters – Shiksha Guru, Diksha Guru, Vartmapradarshak Guru, Caitya guru variety. And each one is to be understood they have roles to play. Shiksha guru could be prominent in someone’s life and Diksha Guru he is a torch light of knowledge spiritual master. “tamaso ma jyotirgamaya” – get out of the ignorance go to the light.
That light is coming from Krishna. So that’s the role of spiritual master.

The forth topic is “Substantiate the importance of surrender to Krishna as ultimate conclusion of Bhagvat Gita”
With reference to some other Bhakti shastras importance of surrender to Krishna has ultimate conclusion of Bhagvat Gita. This is the conclusion of Bhagvat Gita. What is the conclusion of Bhagvat Gita? lot of time you say what ‘sarva dharman paritayjya’ the importance of surrender what is the importance of surrender? ‘ mam ekam sharnam vraja’- Surrender unto Krishna.

Is it important? How? Why? Freedom through Surrender in this material. ‘mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te’ again to me only ‘mam eva prapadhyante’- those who surrender unto Me only what happens? ‘taranti te’- they are liberated. Any other thoughts? Let us surrender this life anyway we have to surrender so why not surrender, begin surrendering get used to this surrender and then attain perfection. At the end will be forced to surrender whether you want to or not to you will be forced. So why not be wise and voluntarily surrender.
(Question by devotee) Surrendering unto Him “jnanavan mam prapadyate” more you know Lord more you will surrender unto Him, there is a connection. ‘jnanavan’ –one who is knowledgeable you will surrender unto Lord those who do not surrender what is their position?

“ye sastra-vidhim utsrjya vartate kama-karatah
na sa siddhim avapnoti na sukham na param gatim” (B.G 16.23)

(Question by devotee, Maharaj says Haribol!! Quite powerful logical). Even Demigod big big Demigods are surrendering unto the Lord. Bramha with the tears in his eyes prays to the Lord and he had committed some offence and he had comeback. Like that Indra also come to surrender he came with Surabhi Cow, he came to Godrum dvip. Bramha had come to Antardvip performing austerities then he was given this Haridas Thakur Bramha is Haridas Thakur position incarnation. So Demigods take the dust of Krishnas feet on the head, while Krishna who is around in the forest of Vrindavan taking care of the cows bare foot Krishna goes barefoot serving cows playing with his friends. The Lakshmi and the Demigod they seek the dust of Krishna’s feet take that on their head. In that kind of Krishna is nice wonderful Krishna He is serving cows, He is playing with His friends. Yashoda could chastise Him, knowing that kind of Krishna lot of people don’t know that Krishna, Vrindavan Krishna. Ok so it was nice being with you, talking to you.

Thank you.
Lokanath Swami Maharaj Ki Jai!!
