Attitude towards Vaishnavas

Thank you for this opportunity that we have today with you. You are all Bhakti Shastris, Bhakti Shastragya meaning also like you are scientist. One who knows the Shastras – Shastragya . ‘Gya’ means one who knows, Shastragya:-one who knows shastras is scientist; this is yet another vaishnav definition for understanding of who is a scientist.

“yah sastra-vidhim utsrjya vartate kama-karatah
na sa siddhim avapnoti na sukham na param gatim”
(Bhagavad Gita 16.23)

Lord Krishna says: One who discards all the shastras and he is busy doing activities but he has given up all the shastras abandoned, that person “na sa sukham avapnoti” that person will never ever be happy, what else? ‘na sukham avapnoti’ (in audience param gatim) ‘param gatim’ and there is one more (in audience) ‘na siddhim’- No perfection, no happiness, no final destination is achieved by those who reject, abandon, discard the shastric injunctions. Now you have become shastragyas you are scientist, I am happy I am able to meet scientist or social scientist here in Mayapur. You are completing now your 3 more days to go and you are done with it. Now is a time to apply the knowledge science that you have been studying, what you are studying Upadesamrta like that Isopanishad, Nectar of Devotion and Bhagavad Gita.

I think one year I taught Isopanishad and of course you were not there and then another year I had taught something else. So I have been asked I am given some homework today and next 2 days.
You need 7 attitudes towards Vaishnavas (Students handbook page 110)
Learning objectives it says at the top,
Discuss appropriate attitudes towards senior devotees in temple who have not completed Bhakti Shastri degree.
You have and they haven’t and you are back to the temple and you are in the midst of those devotees or you are the only one who has done the Bhakti Shastri. You are the one carrying your certificate hanging around your neck (laughter). Some big accomplishment to have a degree in Bhakti Shastri, not a small thing. So then what should be your attitude towards or in the midst of all those other devotees who haven’t done Bhakti Shastri?

With reference to Shri Isopanishad mantra 10 it says:
“anyad evahur vidyaya anyad ahur avidyaya”

One result is derived from the culture of knowledge and that a different result is obtained from cultural nescience that’s ignorance. In the purport Srila Prabhupada writes: In a modern society even a boy thinks himself self sufficient and pays no respect to elderly men. Due to wrong type of education being imparted in our universities boys all over the world are giving their elders headaches. Elders are getting headaches from the boys and girls also its not mentioned here. They give headaches to their elders so you understand what is expected from you. These are mundane universities and modern society and they what they cultivate is ignorance (avidya).
‘anyad ahur avidyaya’ – cultivation of vidya is one and cultivation of avidya is yet another one.
So what you had been cultivating is? Vidya not only vidya but Rajvidya: the king of knowledge.

“raja-vidya raja-guhyam pavitram idam uttamam” (Bg. 9.2)

Uttam-‘tam’ means ignorance, utt – means above, beyond, at the top. Uttam: beyond ignorance that’s uttam. No tinge of ignorance means full of knowledge. In other words, uttam means full of knowledge which is devoid of ‘tam’-devoid of ignorance. So, you had been cultivating not just vidya but raja-vidhya. So, those who cultivate avidya, they give headache, those who cultivate vidya they should be giving what? Some soothing bam, some relief to the elders or other vaishnavas some of them also for sure are going to be senior to you.
So, what should be your attitude?

What you should be thinking now with all this vidya in your head?
What you should be thinking of others?
How it should be dealing with others?
Your relationship with others?

Oh!! You have answer, okay! What kind of help you would render? “SERVICE”, don’t give headache at the head but at the feet (laughter) serve them.
What is the outcome of vidya? Knowledge you cultivate what does that do?
Humility, very good!! Amongst other things what you achieve is the humility. If you want to take note there is a statement in that shastras that says
“vidya dadati vinayam”
Probably you have heard this, Vidya –that’s vidya, dadati -that gives, vinayam- that is humility. Vidya gives humility, it also says

“vidya vinayen shobhate”

Shobha means beauty, one becomes beautiful his beauty is enhanced, as he cultivates vidya and then he is full of humility. That humility is the beauty of the person, he looks beautiful. “vidya vinayen shobhate” you learn vidya -Bhakti Shastri and you study this shastra that shastra you become humble. And that’s the decoration that’s alankar, sadhu bhusan- sadhu abhushan, “sadhavah sadhu bhusanam”.
“titiksavah karunikah suhridah sarva-dehinam
ajata-shatravah shantah sadhavah sadhu-bhusanah” [SB 3.25.21]
Titiksavah, karunikah, ajata-shatravah, shantah sadhavah sadhu-bhusanah- ornaments. So humility is one such ornament. So this is what one should be going back with, returning to your respective temples or homes, towns, countries. What is a reward, award, ‘You Have Become Humble’ -Humility.

Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said:
“trnad api su-nicena taror iva sahisnuna
amanina mana-dena kirtaniyah sada harih” (Sri Siksastakam-verse3)

Even this is also result of cultivation of knowledge, vidya, titiksavah- becoming tolerant and “trinad api sunicena”- humble, “amanina mana-dena”- you are ready to give all respect to others and how much respect for yourself? Some give and take should be there (laughter). But Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says only give. Normal policy is taking only, normally you like to take everything, take respect, not give anything in return. But Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says don’t expect anything in return- just give- keep giving.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has himself given commentary on Sri Siksastakam at the end of Chaitanya Caritaramrita last chapter called Siksastakam. And in association of Ramananda Raya and Svarupa Damodar like Personalities, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu- He says one Siksastakam one verse and he talks just brief few comments. So comments to this “trinad api verse” Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says

“uttama hana vaisnava habe nirabhimana
jive sammana dibe jani’ ‘krsna’-adhisthana.”

That person becomes nirabhimani, abhiman is pride, nir – no, becomes pride less- not puffed up. There is the puffed rice and then there is another kind of rice is chipped rice (laughter). Nirabhiman, “jive sammana dibe” and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says person gives sammana to other jivas, other entities why? He is giving reason why! Says “jani krsna adhisthana”. Knowing that the other souls they are situated in Krishna or other souls are Krishna’s souls, they are Krishna’s, Krishna’s people, they were just separate, they had nothing to do with God or Krishna then you may punch their noses. But knowing that they are Krishna’s people, Krishna’s devotees, they are situated in Krishna, grounded in Krishna, sitting next to Krishna, knowing this person always respects others, that’s Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s reason.

So this is part of the knowledge so not only knowing Krishna, but
“vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyo” (B.G 15.15)

Vidya, Vedyah and Vidavan- three factors, vidya is knowledge, vedyah is object of knowledge and vidavan is one who knows, one who has cultivated the knowledge is vidavan. So by now it is expected that you are all vidavan. Vidavan – Vidya has gone in you, now you possess vidya, vidavan like Bhagavan and this van and that van and Jnanavan . You are full of vidya, so you are vidavan. So Krishna says with vidya one understands me.
“aham eva vedyo”- I am to be known, so knowing Lord is then complete when we also understand energies of the Lord “vividhaiva shruyate”. Vividhaiva- Lord is full of potencies. He is potent with potencies; He is Shaktiman because He has lots of shaktis. And to know His shaktis -His energy is part of knowing Lord. So, living entities is shakti of the Lord ‘tatastha shakti’ of the Lord. And that shakti is very dear to the Lord. We have to know this, not we know only that

“mamaivamso jiva-loke jiva-bhutah sanatanah
manah-sasthanindriyani prakrti-sthani karsati” (BG 15.7)

Knowing verse sitting right in your kantha called kanthasta, where are the verses in kantha- kanthasta- well versed. They are sitting in your kantha ready to go but they need to be brought from kantha to the heart –‘hridayastha’ from kanthasta to hridayastha.

From the heart then ‘hridayangam’ – then assimilation, not just accumulation information accumulation but that information assimilation so that there is a transformation. So why should we respect that living entity we are surrounded by living entities all around? That also we have to find out when as one studies shastras and becomes vidavan by studying vidya -rajavidhya then this is part of the knowledge.

Knowing Lord and knowing Lord’s energies knowing Lord’s souls -anshas. Lord is anshi and living entities are ansha. Anshi is full ‘purnam’ and that purna Lord has anshas- parts and parcels. But they are His parts and parcels and they are very very dear to Him, they are very dear to Him. So, they are to be respected.

“aham eva vedyo” I am to be known, this has to be expanded. I am to be known, that I Krishna includes His shaktis, His energies, especially energy that is to be focused is his living entities, His parts and parcels we should take note of this. They exist and they are not just piece of dirt that you could just kick and push and pull and they are His and they are very dear to Him.

“sadhavo hrdayam mahyam” sadhus are in my heart , I am in their heart, they are in my. So, I think we are going to be making more general presentation of this “attitude towards Vaishnavas”. There are 5 different parties mentioned here.
1. Towards senior devotees in the temple.
2. Discuss appropriate attitude towards vaishanavs outside ISKCON.
3. Viewing Vaishnavas who have fallen down.
They are all living entities, they are in different categories, in different situations, different body, different country, different institutions and very different sampradayas, even different age groups and genders could be different but they are all living entities and attitude towards them.
So fallen ones and again return to practice of devotional service and then with reference to (Bhagavad Gita 9.30) “api cet su-duracaro”.
4. Importance of maintaining proper attitude towards Vaishnavas in regards to future development of ISKCON and their own spiritual life.

So like that there are different angles, perspectives thrown in here. So they are all living entities and they are living and they are Krishna’s entities. Krishna’s parts and parcels that makes them very special so they are to be respected, honoured. And this is expected from person in knowledge, one who has cultivated knowledge.
Krishna is talking of “panditah sama darsinah” (BG 5.18) what is pandit? Pandit is one who is in knowledge. In Vrindavan they call them Pandas, Vrindavan pandas, they are suppose to be Pandits means knowledgeable. Hence they could guide you also, take you on a tour of Vrindavan. They know Vrindavan, they know Krishna. They are dhama gurus.
So, “panditah sama darsinah” So, what is a qualification of that Pandit? that Krishna describes as:
“vidya vinaya- sampanne brahmane” (BG 5.18)

Infact to call someone a pandit or Brahman or vidavan, “ vidhya vinaya sampanne”.
Sampanna means equipped, not only he has vidya but he also has vinaya.
“Vidya vinaya sampanne”

We are troubled with the conditioning, we are conditioned souls, we are trying to get out of that conditioning but conditioned person, as soon as he gets something, gains something, possesses something, immediately that’s the trouble part. Even if it is vidya immediately we become proud of. Even popper is proud of, he has just few pennies but he becomes proud of pennies. From penniless to few pennies he becomes proud. You acquire knowledge, you have some beauty and you have some high percentage and what else, shruti, shreya, aishwarya, janma. These are the causes also that Kunti Maharani is talking, immediately one becomes attached and proud and he wants to displays his janma and his beauty and his education part, Bhakti shastri degree. Yes! This is challenge, how to acquire knowledge and not to feel we have it or infact this knowledge will do its part, if it is cultivated properly knowledge will reward person with humility.

“Vidya vinaya sampanne”

Then brahmane, then he is looking at Brahman, he is looking at cow, is looking at chandal “sva-pake ca” (BG 5.18) dog-eater and he is looking at elephant, he is looking at dog also. He is looking it at all these parties ‘brahmane’ looking at brahman, gavi -at the cow, hasti -the elephant, sva-pake – dog-eater. So what is equal in all these entities? He is looking at all these entities, parties, personalities as soul, it’s tougher to look at the dog and look at soul in him offer your respect to him.

There was a saint in Italy Saint Francis, he would address all the entities as own brothers and sisters. Non human and all other entities, he had genuine respect. He was kind of “panditah sama darsinah”. He is seeing all the creatures, all the entities as parts and parcels and brothers. So God brother they are also our God-brothers and God-sisters in other bodies in cat body and mosquitoes comes to you, must take him as mosquito brother, then rat brother, snake brother.

Some experience they talk because you have hatred towards others or even animals like the serpents they’ll attack you violently, but your attitude towards them is not of hate then they’ll also be very friendly. Children may be playing with them, as soon as you kill your attitude even animals, they change their attitude and they don’t act like, they don’t exhibit their normal animalistic attitude. They’ll change their attitude because your attitude is different, towards them.

So, fallen down vaishnava, now he has returned to the devotional practice what should be the attitude, how should you be dealing with that person, compassion. Any other suggestion? Compassion, to be fallen nothing special to be fallen, its common (laughter). Not to be surprised but the difference is from fallen he is trying to rise; he had gone higher at some levels but then some setbacks. So they are different from the common fallen, something different, something to his credit, he made attempt to rise, go against his so called fallen nature, he lifted himself or

“Brahmanda brahmite kona bhagyavan jiva” (CC Madhya Lila, 19.151)

Must be very fortunate soul came in contact “Guru-krishna- prasade paya” . Maya is very strong, is that part of the knowledge also? Krishna consciousness person knows that maya is very strong. Don’t take it lightly, Srila Prabhupada used to say: “trouble with my disciples is they are not afraid of Maya (laughter). They are not afraid of Maya, one should be, She’s so strong- “mama maya durattaya” because it’s Krishna’s Maya. And Krishna is strong, so Krishna’s Maya also has to be strong. If it is not strong Maya, then it cannot be Krishna’s Maya. So knowing this also, Maya is strong,

“api cet su-duracaro”- So this is Krishna’s stand, even if one commits most abominable action, engaged in devotional service he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated in his determination.

“ksripram bhavati dharmatma” (BG 9.31)

And Lord addresses him as Dharmatma, that person is Dharmatma, so we cannot call him duratma. Lord is calling him Dharmatma, who are we to take different step. So just understand that, Lord is educating us infact, in this regard how to deal with those fallen.

“kaunteya pratijanihi na me bhaktah pranasyati”

And Lord even is declaring that my devotee never perishes. So Lord is also addressing that person as a devotee “My Devotee”

“svalpam apy asya dharmasya trayate mahato bhayat” (BG 2.40)

‘svalpam api’ – little progress, so now he has nothing to fear, ‘trayate mahato bhayat’ means no more going down to the lower species, you’ll be protected. During Srila Prabhupada’s days, you know some of our God Brothers, God Sisters in those days; we would call them blooping, bloop — when you throw little rock in the lake how does it sound? Bloop !! We throw little rock, we listen: Bloop! So this world is like a big ocean and them someone becoming “punar mushika bhava” becoming mouse again. He blooped, she blooped, so of course we were concerned and we would approach. I was there at least on one occasion and some devotees, oh! That prabhu, that mataji, have you know blooped left.

So Prabhupada, his response was they would they would come back he would be very much concerned, blooped but they will come back in this life or the next, but they’ll come back because
“na me bhaktah pranasyati” (BG 9.31)
Its guarantee that Lord has given and I was just looking at Sridhar Swami commentary on this
“na me bhaktah pranasyati” Bhagavad Gita commentary he says
“Kutarka karksha vadinah na etad manneran”
By hearing what Lord just said,
“api cet su-duracharo” (BG 9.30)
“ksripram bhavati dharmatma” (BG 9.31)
But those who want to argue or those who are faithless they may not accept this. My dear Lord then what you have to say

“iti shanka vyakula cittam arjunam prosayate”

This has not appeared in the dialogue but it is like reading in between lines and then the commentaries they are. So Arjuna, what you just said some people may not accept this. They may argue against this. “vyakula ciittam” Arjuna’s, mind is vyakula and his influence affected by this. He is thinking, oh everyone may not accept this. He is fallen and then still he is accepted to be as Dharmatman. So then Lord says this is not in Bhagavad Gita, but commentary: hey kaunteya! “Oh Arjuna !” This Krishna says

“atah kahaladi maha goshapurvakam vivadha mananam sabham gatva”

You go to such assembly where the all critics and all envious all these people they are not accepting this statement of mine. You go their
“gatva bahum utiksha”- you raise your arm and you aim and nishankam; without any doubt, “pratijanihi pratigyam kurum”, on my behalf take a vow. You boldly declare Krishna says. You go when all such people out there in big number, they have assembled you go and declare. Oh ! okay, I’ll go. What should I say?, Krishna! What should I say? So then Lord says, you say this:

“parmeshwarasha bhaktah”- My Bhakta, my devotee, “su- duracharo api na pranashyati”.

I just said, you repeat. You go there, you raise your hands and then you shut them up. And you say what I said this is the truth. You just say it out Loud! And make it clear and boldly declare that

“su-durachara api na pranashyati
apitu kritartaha eva bhavati”

On the contrary, kritartaha- they attain perfection and they never perish. They survive and they revive, they thrive, you say this on my behalf to this is. So knowing that much we could treat that person accordingly. So is it compassion
But those devotees as they return, they don’t have to go through a new Bhakta training. In few days, few weeks, they are, they could even give a Bhagvatam class. Their previous experiences all are revived, manifested and you could be even friendly with them. Compassion is for; compassion is for whom? Who do we exhibit our compassion towards? Some juniors so, some innocents, they may quickly become senior to you because they were 10 years practising Krishna consciousness, you have practiced only 3 years. When they come back everything is normal, back to normal, back on track, all surviving and reviving and thriving has happened. Then they are way ahead of you also. You are only 3 years but they are 10 years and 3 months of practice in ISKCON.

“isvare tad-adhinesu balisesu dvisatsu ca
prema-maitri-krpopeksa yah karoti sa madhyamah”

Total 4 categories and we deal with them differently.
First part is Isvar himself, the Lord Himself.
Second part is tad-adhinesu: those who are subordinate surrendered unto Him and they are practicing, they are in good standing.
Third party -balisesu, just now coming. “adau sraddha” they are innocent third party.
Fourth part is dvisatsu- they are envious towards santas – the sadhus, means atheists or demoniac. So that’s the fourth category.

So, what do we do with each one of them? The shashtra say: “prema, maitri, kripa, upeksha.” You give your prema, give your love to Ishwar, those are 4 categories and now 4 things you could do. So you have to match – prema, maitri, kripa, upeksha. Prema : Ishwar gets prema, you love the Lord. Tadadhinesu- the devotees they get your maitri, your friendship. And a friend in need is friend indeed. To render your help, assistance
Then Balisesu those are innocent they get kripa, they deserve kripa, your compassion, your kindness, consideration and dvisatsu, those who are anti-devotees, you could maintain safer distance from them. Offer obeisance from a distance or just stay away upeksha. So this is shastra chakshusha also. Now your knowledge of the shastras, so you look at the world around you.

When you look at anything and everything and immediately get your chasma (laughter) get your Shastra chakshu together and do then do the evaluation, then do the calculation and conclusion with the help of the knowledge of the shashtras. Not just your mind ‘sankalpa vikalpa’- acceptance rejection. Just because you feel good then you accept and then you reject, no use of shastras, use of intelligence, sharpening your tools. With the help of the shastras, studying of the shastras. Your tools are sharpened and then use the tools, evaluating not just mind but with the use of intelligence.

“dadami buddhi yogam”

Lord gives intelligence, so these intelligent statements, is wisdom in the form of this Bhakti Sastras that Lord has shared. This is Lord giving us wisdom, giving us intelligence and then you don’t just reject or accept on sense level or mind level but you use your intelligence.
If you are given medicine, lot of time, they are bitter. Your first reaction would be you would like to do what? Spit it! This is at the mind’s level you would be spitting but if you think; use your intelligence then knowing that this is good for your body or your health. So, something’s at the mind’s level you are ready to reject. Wait a minute! Then intelligence comes on the scene and you understand what is this? It might be bitter but is this useful. All that glitters is (audience: not gold) not gold. So you know glittered that doesn’t mean I should go for it, you think.

Again part of “yah pashyati sah panditah”. One who sees, we were just talking about shastra chakshushas (eyes). With the help of shastras “shastra chakshusha” more you use, you hear this shastras, study shastras. One devotee I don’t remember who that one was, but I heard this long time. He said then the knowledge takes the front seat. Knowledge comes in the fore front. All that he had been reading, studying, it is on your mind. If you are not studied of course and you have not read and then you forgot, then ignored and then knowledge takes back seat, maybe in the brain there is some place where they are stored in and you can’t find it, it’s just thrown in the pile. So as one studies and then contemplated and applies that knowledge and that knowledge stays fresh and then his shastra chakshusha is always with the help shastras, authority sadhu shastra archaryas. He is looking at the world, looking at the persons, different parties, and then accordingly takes decision or stand.

There are lot of attitude problem in devotees, so we need to work on this attitude. This is also relationship. Okay let’s use a word “sambandha” – very first thing is sambandha you come in contact, you have some relationship “sambhand” then comes “abhidheya” then comes “prayojan”. The first thing is “sambhand” -the relationship. If the relationship is not right, with a right attitude, right understanding, relationship is not right. Then nothing is going to go right. So this sambhand, this attitude, the relationship with the Lord, with the Lord’s world -this is Lord’s creation.

“isavasyam idam sarvam yat kinca jagatyam jagat
tena tyaktena bhunjitha ma gradhah kasya svid dhanam” (Sri Isopanishad 1)

Immediately you are given a tool, how to deal with this world. First of all, this world belongs to isavasyam. This is Lord’s world and now you are not the only one in the world, there are others, you are not the only son like a Jesus. They say Jesus was only son, I think he is a good son, He is a one good son but we know there are many sons. Unlimited! If God is unlimited He must have unlimited sons. So that God’s property, this world is God’s property. This has to be shared amongst His children.
‘Tena tyaktena bhunjitah’- There is a quota for you. The rest of the property, Hands off! Don’t Touch! It’s meant for other or somehow if it lands in your hands, then you shares that with others, give it in charities. Knowing that it belongs to the Lord and it is meant for other children of God. So this how you know how to deal with this world, how to relate with this world. What to do with this world? Whose world is it? How much do you really need and just keep that much and be happy with it.

“yadrccha-labha-santusto dvandvatito vimatsarah” (BG.4.22)

Lord says: My devotees whatever comes to their way they are satisfied with that much and as a result, they transcend this dvandva –this duality and they remain non-envious. They become free from envy. So philosophically we know we are envious, living entities envious of the Lord and living entities is envious of other living entities. So not only we have to become free from envy, I don’t want to be envious of the Lord, but then we make other living entities as a target and lots of envy towards them, but then Lord is not happy with that. Lord is not happy with that. So “yah pasyati sah pandita”.

So pandit is that person

“matrvat para-daresu para-dravyesu lostravat
atmavat sarva-bhutesu yah pasyati sa pandita”
Again Pandit, person who is vidhavan, knowledgeable, he has done Bhakti Shastri going for Bhakti Vaibhav and this and that. This is expected from him that “atmavatsa sarvabhuteshu” how does he deal with others. Atmavat- the way one deals with himself or herself, sarvabhuteshu- he should deal with others likewise sensitive to their feelings, their needs, their interests and concerns, so lots of sentiments, sensitivities, intricacies knowing these things, so atmavatsa.

So, importance of maintaining proper attitude towards Vaishnavas in regards to future development of ISKCON and their own spiritual life. So for future development of ISKCON also if this is understanding ‘atmavat sarvabhuteshu’. This could take care of lot of things these few words but it’s a lifetime homework infact.
“atmavat sarva bhutesu”- You love others, serve others, the way you would like to be loved and served. Learned person does this.

“para-dravyesu lostravat” – Other’s wealth loshtavat its like kachra or it is dustbin, discarded you don’t touch; it’s others you don’t need security anymore. So 10% of the population in the world is of type, I am security man, I’m secured and security. There, but if you would do this ‘loshtavat praradraveshu’ you don’t need security. Security locking system, this and that and all the way. The cameras and CCTV. But instead you just do this “loshtravat para dravyesu”- other’s wealth, oh!! I won’t touch, it’s not mine.

Because people they are not knowledgeable, they are not pandits. So they want to grab everything. My property others property also my property, my father’s property also my property. And just I will not only work hard I am going to work smart and work on transferring other’s bank balances to my bank balance. We are going to be smart and get higher education, so that those who are less educated I am going to exploit them do pick pocketing in different ways. If I go with scissors, pick pocket I might be arrested, but I’ll use my intelligence. It’s a pick pocketing; I’ll do it in a different ways, in intelligent ways. I’ll become wealthy so that’s ignorance and cultivation of avidya.

On the contrary, “yah pasyati sah pandita”
One who knows this, others wealth I’ll not touch.
matrvat para-daresu – ‘matrivat’- The woman or other’s wives are like my mothers. Easier said than done, but this has to be done there is no way out. So for senses or mind, it may be pleasing but use of intelligence now,
matrvat para-daresu , my attitude is matrvat that is my mother. So towards the future development of ISKCON, I think this principle, this knowledge, this cultivation of knowledge is of immense benefit.

Specially raising ourselves from kanistha adhikari level to madhyam adhikar. Atleast Prabhupada said atleast come to the madhyam adhikar. Our movement will only survive and spread if we did that, if we remain just kanistha adhikaris only loving Radha Madhava the best deity worship in the world. That’s fine but infact we also have to worship devotees, how to worship devotees, serve devotees not just lip service. Serve Lord and serve devotees of the Lord. Serve devotees of Krishna Consciousness movement, serve them and worship them. Prabhupada said cooperate with each other, so that his society is protected after he is gone. So that protection will come from our knowledgeable action. Action equipped with knowledge, Yogasthah in the verse of Sri Krishna :

“yoga-sthah kuru karmani” (BG 2.48)

Prabhupada says that devotee by the way he deals or dealing with others, he does ‘dharma samsthapanarthaya’- he establishes dharma by his dealing by his interactions. Of course standard reactions, standard relationships, standard attitude, standard sambandha with that devotee establishes dharma, establishes Krishna Consciousness, Krishna Consciousness movement, or principles of Krishna Consciousness or established by his, his dealings, his Krishna Conscious dealings full of knowledge as advised in the shastras; Gita and Bhagavat and Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu, and Isopanishad, Updeshmarita.
One studies and then he is properly situated and that’s yogasthah. He has become yogi; he is situated in Yoga linked with the Lord properly. ‘Yogasthah’ then ‘kuru karmani’ then person is expected to act, a person is expected to deal, relate with the world, relate with other devotees, new devotees or senior devotees or fallen and then come back devotees or other institutions, other vaishnavas. For everything there is a standard.

So we are happy that you have been completing your study of the Bhakti Shashtras. Now there is jnana part and then comes vijnana the application. So I think application this is what, what is being talked now, then you’ll be walking out of door and then you have to deal with others, they haven’t done their Bhakti Shastri, in your temples wherever you come from and then you meet this situation, that situation, this devotee that devotee, someone superior, someone equal, someone junior, someone critical and then what you are suppose to be doing in each one of those situations. Get ready, are you ready? Haribol……..

yuga-dharma phalau vande jagat priya karo karuna avatarau”

Karuna avataro-Guar Nityananda, the founding Supreme fathers of this Hare Krishna movement, Hare Krishna sankirtan movement are Gaur Nityananda and not far from here is Srivan angan and not angam. Many of devotees say angam, angam means body. Angan means courtyard angan not anganam so Srivas angan. SriKrishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu would chant

“Hare krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”

All night long kirtan and Caitanya Mahaprabhu He would go mad, roar like a mad man also and chant and dance doing His uddanda kirtan, uddanda nrutya.

dhule dhule gaurachanda hari guna gai
asiya vrindavane nache gaura rai”

He was dancing like that in Vrindavan 500 hundred year ago, Caitanya Mahaprabhu travelled to Vrindavan and he danced there also so that is ‘dhule dhule’ one kind of dance and he would do uddand nritya, He would jump high in sky and floating, trying to reach out his Lord where are you O! Lord? And he would be seeking for his Lord, he would jump. When Sachi mata had observed that kind of uddanda nritya of her Nimai dancing in Shantipur, he would jump high and fall flat on the ground so that was heart breaking experience for Sachi mata, considering that her Nimai getting hurt as he lands on the ground. She was praying to mother bhumi, mother earth that whenever my darling when he falls down in your lap. Please make sure that he was not hurt, let him experience like he is falling on bed of roses or something soft ground. So this was going on every night, all night long chanting and dancing on and on and on for weeks and for months. Advaitacharya was not very happy that Lord was dancing with “pure” devotees, what about the others? So he was the one, Advaitacharya was the one who had prayed for the merciful descend of the Lord.

“dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata”

“There is so much decline of the religious principles my Lord this is the time you did promise or made that statement whenever there is decline in religious or of the religious principles
“sambhavami yuge yuge” – you would appear”. So advaitacharya had come some 50 years prior to advent of Gauranga as if he had come as a advance party to do all evaluation of the situation and he had come to the conclusion now only Lord can rectify the situation so he prayed and Lord had responded and Gauranga appeared. But then he was chanting and dancing with some selected few and what about the rest of world then Advaitacharya, he falls at the feet of Gauranga and says oh! Lord be merciful

“Patitpavan hetu tav avatar”

The purpose of your avatar is patit pavan, to uplift the fallen souls so please do so these are pure devotees, its fine that you chant and dance with them but what about rest? So then Gauranga Mahaprabhu continued his kirtans all over Mayapur, Navadwip. Bhaktivinod Thakur explains in his famous kirtan.

“udilo aruna puraba bhage dwija mani gora amani jage
Bhakta samuha loiya sathe gela nagara braje”

So early morning the sun rose in the east. (Bell rings in the temple of Rajapur Jaggnath) O! Something is appearing Jagannath is rising appearing here Jai Jagannath Swami ki jai! Jai Jagannath! Jai Jagannath! Jai Jagannath ! Jagganath Baladev Subhadra Ki ..Jai

So gathering all his followers, devotees, Mahaprabhu was dancing all over, throughout Navadwip Mandal.

“tathai tathai bajalo khol”

“dhik tam dhik tam dhig etan kathayati satatam kirtana-stho mrdangah”

Mrdanga uvacha, mrdanga says all the time what does mrdanga says? Dhik- I condemn those folks, kirtan is going on here where I am being played, mridanga is being played and what you are doing over there? You are condemned dhik dhik, I condemn you, I condemn you, ‘etan dhigetan’- all these people are condemned because you are not present in the kirtan, mrdanga speaks like this during Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s kirtan.

“mukunda madhava yadava hari bolena bolo re vadan bhori”

So they are chanting,
“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”

And they are also chanting Mukunda say Mukunda Mukunda Mukunda. “bolena bolo re vadan bhori” using all their strength, love their Lord with all thy strength, with all thy heart, the bible also says “love thy Lord with all thy heart, with all thy strength”. So this song of Bhaktivinod also says “bolena bolo re vadan bhori” So some devotees along with their kirtan they are also doing preaching to those who were witnessing the kirtan running out of their homes to observe the kirtan. So devotees were preaching to them you also chant full hearted, full throated, heart full, throat full.. “balena bolo re vadan bhori”. And what is the next part ?

“preme dhala dhala sonara anga carane nupura baje”– again dhule dhule

That golden complexion Lord, “Preme dhala dhala”- full of prem, ecstatic feeling, emotions. He is dancing with ankle bells tinkling jingling around His ankles. Devotees must be playing mridanga very expertly, they also loving the sound of tinkling and jingling the bells also do come across. Mridanga playing was not drowning the sound of the nupur. The tinkling and jingling of the bells also were audible. Mridanga being played and those kartal and bits of all that there was also sound of jingling bells from ankles of Gauranga!

“kiba mantra dila gosai kiba tara bala japite japite mantra karila pagal”

This is another time as Sri Krishna Chaitnaya Mahaprabhu, he was maddened as he chanted rolling on the ground and this was very common thing shading tears. He would do kirtna in Jagannath Puri Jagannath puri dham ki jai !!! In front of Jagannath’s cart and when He would go round and round all people all devotees are all around Him and making three circles. Nityananda Prabhu was in the first circle around Gauranga and then Srivas and then Kashishwar and others would make the second circle. King Prataparudra and others would make the third circle and he would be in the middle protected from the public or He could have His own space. Gauranga would have His own space for chanting and dancing and not getting distracted, so they would form circles. He is everywhere simultaneously he is everywhere. Not that he is here and then after some time going round and round and that time shading tears. From the Lotus eyes of Gauranga tears would flow drowning not just making people little bit wet. They would drowning in those tears, becoming all soaked in tears of Gauranga.

“Nayanam galad ashru dharya” -dhara- flow. It was coming out, the flow coming out forcefully, so it was not just dropping down but going, spreading all around and it was coming out so forcefully reaching out going for long distance so all around the tears of Gauranga!! So one time He had again approached his Guru Maharaj Ishvarpuri and he was wondering Oh! What kind of mantra “Kiba mantra dila gosai”- what kind of mantra you have given to me? “japite japite mantra karil pagal”- by chanting or while chanting I just go mad, my body begins trembling, rolling on the ground, I become stunt ,this happens that happens, sometimes my complexion changes, Gauranga’s body changes complexion. The Golden body would turn pinkish while He was in Vrindavan golden body turned bluish black!

“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”

He was doing His japa, japa yoga underneath of Imali tala, Tamarind tree all from Krishna’s time, there was a tamarind tree 500 years ago and still there is tamarind tree. And after while at bank of Yamuna underneath the tree chanting His japa and while chanting He became so much Krishna conscious that He was no more Gauranga, He was not Gaursundar! But he became Shyamsundar! Body was shyamavarna.

So that also was result of His madness, ecstatic feelings. So He had inquired what kind of mantra? So much power, so much strength has invested in this mantra. This mantra just taken charge of me and makes me dance, make me mad. What kind of mantra have you given oh! Spiritual master?

“hari hari viphale janama gonainu”

And kirtan parties Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s kirtan party, Chaitanya mahaprabhu already in Jagannath Puri and parties would go from different towns and villages to Jagannath Puri to participate in Rathyatra festival. During one such time, as devotees were arriving in Jagannath Puri and they were performing kirtan or while performing kirtan they are entering Jagannath Puri and King Prataprudra, was enquiring “who is that devotee?” Oh! That is Advaitacharya ,“ who is that one in bluish?” Oh! That is Nityananda and who is that he was enquiring and he said I have heard kirtans before, same mantra same mridanga, kartala also, but this is something different. I have never experienced this kind of kirtan, these prabhu’s are chanting, singing, dancing what is this Kirtan? Then he was told, this is “Prem Kirtan”. So Mahaprabhu and His associates, followers they would perform Prem Kirtan, shuddha Naam.

Every day we chant keep doing this. This Hare Krishna Mahamantra is the Prem, the Love of God or in this name, the form of the Holy name. Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu delivered Krishna Prem to this world. “Krishna Prem Pradayte” He appeared to deliver Krishna prem and what is that prem?

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Keep chanting!!!

So let’s chant, utter not just by the tongue, but by the soul. Let the soul sing this supreme song. We always hear encouragement chant from the heart. Because within the heart there is soul, Let the soul chant, so that kirtan was brought by Gauranga from His own abode and chanted here in Navadwip.

Most intelligent persons would go for Gauranga

Speaker: HH Lokanath Swami
Venue: Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir
Date: 7 March 2016

So that’s the verse, Eleventh Canto, Chapter 5, Text 32. Are you familiar, if you have looked at the board? Yeah! Sounds familiar? Not new! But ever ever new also at the same time! Never be-comes old!
So here we are in land of Gauranga, Gauranga! (Devotees respond: Gauranga!) Sri Krishna Cai-tanya Mahaprabhu ki (Devotees respond: Jaya!) And also we have gathered here amongst other reasons, gathered here for Kirtan Mela ki (Devotees respond: Jaya!) Yes, you have come here for Kirtan Mela! Some of you have just come for the Kirtan Mela.. So I thought of selecting a verse that talks of Caitanya Mahaprabhu as well as of course talks about the kirtana, sankirtana- yajna, that we are engaged in here. So quickly as time is running.

krsna-varnam tvisakrsnam sangopangastra-parsadam
yajnaih sankirtana-prayair yajanti hi su-medhasah
( SB 11.5.32)

Translation and Purport by disciples of His Divine Grace A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prab-hupada ki (Devotees respond: Jaya!)
“In the Age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the names of Krsna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krsna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions.”

“This same verse is quoted by Krsnadasa Kaviraja in the Caitanya-caritamrita, Adi-lila, Chapter Three, verse 52”. And I was reminded that Laghu Bhagavatamrta of Rupa Goswami, he also quotes this verse in the very beginning of Laghu Bhagavatamrta, Rupa Goswami does, its part of his mangalacarana, same verse.

“His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada has given the following commentary on this verse. “This text is from Srimad-Bhagavatam (11.5.32). Srila Jiva Gosvami has explained this verse in his commentary on the Bhagavatam known as the Krama-sandarbha, wherein he says that Lord Krsna also appears with a golden complexion. That golden Lord Krsna is Lord Caitanya”. Did you hear that, “That golden Lord K???a is Lord Caitanya.” Very nice the way Prabhupada is commenting based on Krama-sandarbha. “who is worshiped by intelligent men in this age. That is confirmed in Srimad-Bhagavatam by Garga Muni, who said that although the child Krsna was blackish, He also appears in three other colours — red, white and yellow”

“ idanim krsnatam gatah”
(SB 10.8.13), Garga Muni, idanim krsnataam gatah, now He has be-come Krishna. But previously He was, suklo raktas tatha pita (SB 10.8.13). He has three other colours, sukla-white in Satya Yuga, rakta-red in Treta Yuga and now He has appeared in Dvapara Yuga as Krishna, so what is the remaining age, Kali Yuga, pita. So four colours mentioned and then he had already mentioned three ages. So fourth age is Kali and pita is remaining colour, so that is Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s colour.

“Who said that although the child Krsna was blackish, He also appears in three other colors — red, white and yellow. He exhibited His white and red complexions in the Satya and Treta ages respectively. He did not exhibit the remaining color, yellow-gold, until He appeared as Lord Cai-tanya, who is known as Gaurahari”
Hari who is Gaura. Either Gauranga whose complexion is Gaura anga, golden complexion or Hari Hari. So Gaurahari! He is Hari, but what kind of Hari He is? (Devotees respond: Gaurahari) Gaurahari! Don’t just say Hari! Hari! Say Gaurahari! “Srila Jiva Gosvami explains that k???a-var?am means Sri Krsna Caitanya”. That is he is getting back to the verse, there is krsna-varnam and that refers to Caitanya. “Krsna-varnam and Krsna Caitanya are equivalent. The name Krsna appears with both Lord Krsna and Lord Caitanya Krsna.”

“namo maha-vadanyaya krsna-prema-pradaya te krsnaya krsna-caitanya-namne”
-I offer my obeisance’s unto krsnaya, krsnaya because namah is there, I offer my obeisances unto Krishna, you say that in Sanskrit as krsnaya, which kind of Krishna, krsnaya krsna-caitanya-namne, Krishna whose name is Krsna Caitanya, unto that Krishna I offer my obeisances. krsnaya krsna-caitanya-namne, Krishna whose name is Krsna Caitanya, I offer my obeisances unto Him.
“Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but He always engages in describing Krsna and thus enjoying transcendental bliss by chanting and remembering His name and form. Lord Krsna Himself”. So that is krsna-varnam, anyway I will go ahead, keep going and then get back.

“Lord Krsna Himself appears as Lord Caitanya to preach the highest gospel. Varnayati means ‘utters’ or ‘describes.’ Lord Caitanya always chants the holy name of K???a and describes it also”. He chants and He describes. And that is why He is called here as krsna-varnam, the very first word of this verse is what, krsna-varnam, krsna-varnam, varna. So Krishna, these are varna’s. Also varnan, from that comes, varhah, description. So krsna-varnam, who always chants and describes, so thats krsna-varnam. And because He is K???a Himself, whoever meets Him will automatically chant the holy name of Krsna and later describe it to others”. That’s preaching.

“He injects one with transcendental Krsna consciousness, which merges the chanter in transcendental bliss”. In all respects, therefore, He appears before everyone as Krsna, either by personality or by sound. He appears as personality or sound. Personality is there in the form of vigraha and sound is,

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

He appeared you could say. And there is no difference. The form and the description, not different. Or form and the sound no difference, form and the sound. Simply by seeing Lord Caitanya one at once remembers Lord Krsna. One may therefore accept Him as visnu-tattva. In other words, Lord Caitanya is Lord Krsna Himself.”Haribol! (Devotees: Haribol!)

So its a long purport but we don’t have long time for the class here. So I will kind of stop there and well go to the verse and make few comments. Some comments have been made and we’ve already read, we heard. But we could make few more connections.
Earlier in this same chapter question was raised by Nimi, King Nimi and Karabhajana Muni, he is talking to Karabhajana Muni. It is a dialogue between King Nimi and Karabhajana Muni. And the question raised was,

sri-rajovaca
“kasmin kale sa bhagavan kim varnah kidrso nrbhih
namna va kena vidhina pujyate tad ihocyatam” (SB 11.5.19)

Please tell me, kasmin kale, or kasmin yuge, in which age, bhagavan kim varnah, Lord appears in which kind of varnah, or complexion, colour. namna, or what name does He become known as in different ages, kena vidhina pujyate and by which process, paddhati, mode of worship He is worshipped in or worshiped by.
So he was interested to know in which age, which Lord, which incarnation, colour, please tell me colour, please tell me the name, please tell me the process He is worshipped. So after Satya, Tre-ta, and Dvapara, he has already given reply to those questions or those ages have been described. Which Lord appears and what colour does He appear and how is He worshipped and what are the names. And now is the turn of the age of Kali and then he talks of this verse.
In the age of Kali, the Lord appears, krsna-varnam tvisakrsnam sangopangastra-parsadam, so this kind of Krishna, Lord appears in the age of Kali, krsna-varnam, krsna varna, He always chants,

Krsna Krsna Krsna Krsna Krsna Krsna Krsna he!

Like that. krsna-varnam, He always chants and always describes Krishna, that’s krsna-varnam, krsna varna tvisa akrsna, tvisa refers to the luster, complexion, ok what kind of complexion, a-krsnam, a means no, krsna means black. He does not appear as a blackish complexion. Opposite of black is what? White, more than white! He appears as golden, which is very close, white plus much more! krsna-varnam tvisakrsnam and that one also, krsnaya krsna-caitanya-namne gaura-tvise namah, same tvisa is, you find tvisa here and that pranama mantra of Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu there is also tvisa, tvisa, grammar has done something to that tvisa. So gaura-tvise, I offer my obeisances unto the Lord who is of golden complexion, like that mantra we offer obeis-ances with.

“namo maha-vadanyaya krsna-prema-pradaya te
krsnaya krsna-caitanya- namne gaura-tvise namah”

Four things quickly, four things are mentioned, Krishna’s, Lord’s name is mentioned, what is His name, krsnaya krsna-caitanya, then His form is mentioned, what kind of form, gaura-tvise, form of the Lord, gaura-tvise is a form. So name, form, and quality, what is the quality of, namo maha-vadanyaya, this is the quality of Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu, amongst all or many, so many qualities, this is predominating quality of Sri Krishna Caitanya. He is namo maha-vadanyaya, maha, most magnanimous, matchless Lord, no one comes close to Him when we talk of the magnanimity of the Lord. So namo maha-vadanyaya, this is, this is the quality, guna of the Lord and what is remaining, nama, rupa, guna and lila, the pastimes, so what is the pastime of this Lord Gauranga, namo maha-vadanyaya krsna-prema-pradaya te, krsna-prema-prada, krsna-prema-prada, da the giver of Krishna prema, prada, He gives so much, prakrsta rupena, gives so much. So its not only, like narada, just da there but prada, He gives so much, ocean of prema. So that pranama mantra itself has nama, rupa, guna, lila of Gauranga.

So tvisakrsna, tvisa, refers to complexion of the Lord which is a-krsna, not black. sangopanga-stra-parsadam, so there are four items here. The letter sa there, sa means with, equipped with, with that, sa anga, anga, upanga, sangopangastra, astra, sangopangastra-parsada, fourth is parsa-da.

sa anga, sa upanga, sa astra, sa parsada, He appears along with all these items here. So He appears with anga, limbs, they are like a part of Him. So Nityananda, Advaita is anga of the Lord. In the commentaries by acharyas, Jiva Goswami they explain this. Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura also quoting other commentators. Srila Prabhupada briefly does mention, we did not reach that part in the purport.

upanga, Srivasa and many many devotees are upanga’s. So anga, upanga, astra,

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

is a astra, is a weapon, to do what, “paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskrtam” (Bg 4.8), there are so many duskritina’s, dusta’s the demons. So astra the holy name, so the astra’s are used for killing the demons. But the Lord has appeared as the most magnanimous. So this time His wea-pons are not the usual bow and arrow, the axe like a Parasurama is using, Krishna is Sudarshana. In fact when Nityananda Prabhu was attacked, Caitanya Mahaprabhu had appeared on the scene with Sudarshana! But then He was reminded, No, No, No, Nityananda Prabhu, not in this age, not this weapon.

The weapon is,
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

It is also described that Lord’s beauty is also weapon. The demoniac mentality or demoniac con-sciousness is killed or defeated just by the beauty of Gauranga. He was so beautiful, just by look-ing at Him, the arrows are shot at, at the person who is looking at Mahaprabhu and he is killed in no time. His beauty is the weapon, captivating, capturing and then that person surrenders unto Gauranga.

So there are the astra’s mentioned, there are several astra’s. Prasadam is also astra. And hence comes the ISKCON bullet, ISKCON bullets are gulab jamuns. And you are finished! So Prabhu-pada just fed prasada and so many demons, American demons, demoniac nature was killed. There were hippies, there were demons, they chanted Hare Krishna, ate gulab jamuns and they were happy. The hippies became happies.

So Prabhupada was senapati bhakta, talking of senapati, sena means army, he is chief in com-mander and then he made New York his destination. Go to New York, New York the capital of the age of Kali. And upon arrival there he started showering bombs of the holy name and the time bomb his books were also weapons. They would explode but not destroy but construct beautiful heart or consciousness.

So Bhagavatam is a weapon, Bhagavatam is complete, in there is Krishna’s beauty, Krishna’s form, Krishna, Krishna. So sangopangastra-parsadam, His parsada’s are Gadhadhara is His par-sada, Govinda was His parsada, Ramananda Raya was His parsada, Rupa Sanatana were His par-sada and many others. So all those who were with Him at that time, those who appeared along with Him, they are anga’s limbs or upanga’s secondary limbs, or astra’s the weapons or parsada’s His companions, they are always around.

“yajnaih sankirtana-prayair yajanti hi su-medhasah”

So first two lines is one part in this verse. Lord is described. It is just Lord’s description. What kind of Lord is described? Like this, krsna-varnam tvisakrsnam sangopangastra-parsadam, am, am, you see, for some reason it is ‘am’, ‘am’. So they are one family, they are together. They all describe Lord. And here is already established now. He is Sri Krishna Caitanya, because gaura-tvise a-krsna, He is not black, He is golden.

So then the two more parts are there, yajanti hi su-medhasah, su-medhasah yajanti, su-medasah is su means nice wonderful, medhasah intelligent. The most intelligent persons yajanti, they wor-ship, most intelligent persons, what do they do, they worship. Who do they worship? In this verse, they worship krsna-varnam tvisakrsnam sangopangastra-parsadam, su-medhasah yajanti, intelligent persons worship this Lord, Gauranga.
‘alpa medhasam’, Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita, alpa medhasam, those who are less intelligent devan deva-yajo yanti, they worship demigods, less intelligent Lord said. Less intelligent alpa medhasam, here is su-medhasah. Alpa means no or little, and su-medhasah, so much intelligent, highly intelligent persons, most intelligent persons would go for Gauranga! go for Gauranga! go for Gauranga! go for Gauranga! go for Gauranga!

So yajanti his su-medasah, now they worship this Lord, but how do they worship, what is the mode of worship? what is the process do they adopt? That is the third part. yajnaih sankirtana-prayair su-medhasah yajanti, they worship, how do they worship yajnaih, yajnaih means by per-formance of yajna and doesn’t stop there, not giving any room for speculation, immediately that yajna’s name is mentioned. Which yajna? sankirtana yajna. There is no yajnaih and then full stop. Period! No! yajnaih sankirtana-prayair yajnaih su-medhasah yajanti, the intelligent persons wor-ship this Lord in the age of Kali by chanting

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

So you must be intelligent that you have assembled here to worship the Lord who appears in the age of Kali. Worship how, by chanting krsna-varnam, as Lord did personally in fact, krsna-varnam, Lord personally did this “apani acari jagate sikhaya” by His own example He taught others, He taught the whole world. So He chanted 500 years ago personally. All that chanting started in Mayapur, Navadvipa and He takes sannyasa, He travels all over India chanting and dancing and the way He has shaken up, shaken, shaken up the whole world, or universe and left the vibrations – Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna! So that is what is shaking us up, waking us up, those vibrations are still in the air! Of course He has not stopped chanting, still He is here, Gau-ranga is here! “kona kona bhagyavan dekhi bare pare”, those who are fortunate they could even see today, Gauranga Mahaprabhu performing His pastimes and His pastimes here are kirtana lila.

And same lila Prabhupada expanded that. Mahaprabhu chanted just within the boundaries of In-dia and Prabhupada said, ‘Mahaprabhu left this job of spreading, chanting beyond the boundaries of India up to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.’ (Devotees: Haribol!) So he became the founder acharya 50 years ago, ISKCON was founded, and then same “sankirtanaih kapitarau” as sankirtana was started by Mahaprabhu here was then inauguration took place and now it has reached far and wide. And what is the indication, how do we know it has reached far and wide? Right here, we see the faces from around the world, we heard day before yesterday devotees from 70 countries are here. (Devotees: Haribol!)

And then I say, I have been saying this, from nama to dhama. Devotees receive nama wherever they are, in their country they receive nama, and that nama the holy name brings them to dhama. (Devotees: Haribol!) So nama to dhama.
So one day will come as predicted by Caitanya Mahaprabhu, this yajnah, sankirtana-yajnah will be performed in every town, every village of this planet. And from every village, from every town devotees will be making plans to come to Mayapur for Kirtan Mela, amongst other festival aspects. And they will be coming from every little town, Timbaktu, there is a Timbaktu, from there also they will come. So this is just the beginning, this is just the beginning, 50 years passed and now another 9000 years to go. You could imagine. This temple which is going to hold 10,000 devotees, the TOVP temple in the front is built to accommodate how many devo-tees,10,000 but for sure as soon as temple is opened it will be filled, it will be packed. (Devotees: Haribol!) Then we have to make plans for bigger temple, or stadium.

Ok Thank you very much!

Books of Srila Prabhupada is Sankirtan that came from his lotus mouth

Date : 19th October 2015
Venue : Govardhan Eco-village, Wada

Forest Govardhan Eco-village and you are going to be making plans or strategies, working out strategies of how to distribute books, of Srila Prabhupada ki….. jai!!

So that got me interested and I dropped in (laughter) I don’t know how I fit in here. We all fit in here, this is a sankirtan moment and book distribution is sankirtan. It’s not only kirtan but it is sankirtan, “samyaprakarena kirtan” wholesome kirtan. And there are all the glories in the books of Srila Prabhupada’s books -Bhagvad-Gita as it is and Bhagvatam as it is. So all are glories of Shri Krishna or glories of the Holy Name.

“nama-sankirtanam yasya sarva-papa pranashanam” (12.13.23)

This is how Bhagavatam ends, “nama-sankirtanam yasya, sarva -papa pranashanam”

So conclusion is, the kirtan and these books of Srila Prabhupada are sankirtan or we could also say Sankirtan that came from lotus mouth of Srila Prabhupada, his realizations. He poured his heart into those dictaphone machines all night long or starting from somewhere in middle of the night as we all slept. Prabhupada would get up and speak his realizations into the Dictaphone machine and then some disciple would transcribe and then some editing and layout and here is a heart of the press, the book. So and then someone opens the book and reads the book what is he hearing? The kirtan performed by Srila Prabhupada. So the books are packed with kirtan, so distribution of those books of Srila Prabhupada is kirtan, is sankirtan. This world is in very bad need of is these books.

“Kaloh Nasht Drasham aisham” okay prior to that Shyam tyaktva swapanam gatha Lord departed for his own planet, taddinat – from that day the kali advented then what happened? Kaloh Nasht Drasham aisham people lost the eye-sight, just during flood-day light and they have eyes but they do not see like, they have become blind, okay then we could also say they have become krodha andha, krodh-andha, krodha is making them andha or lobhandha and kamandha and madandha and what not andha. All these things are making them andha- blind. Then Lord, out of his causeless mercy, adhuna means now or then, when kali advented then “Puran ark udita” Lord appeared in the form of Bhagavatam, brilliant as sun. Lord appeared in the form of Bhagavatam. Idam- means this, idam bhagavatam nama puranam brahma-sammitam. This is called “idam bhagavata? nama” this is called Bhagavatam and this is Brahma samhitam, Srila Prabhupada translates Brahama samhitam as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This Bhagavatam is Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Just few days ago, I was just looking at the dictionary meaning of samhitam, what is this samhitam? And the dictionary meaning is, is equal to, as good as or it has same value as what? Brahma samhitam, the Brahma, Parabrahma and then, there is Bhagavatam, Bhagavatam is same as Krishna; it has same value as Krishna, same value. It represents Brahma, so Brahma samhitam.

So when we, distribute Gita or Bhagavatam and then Nectar of Devotion, this is all Brahma samhitam and these are glories of the Lord. Certainly they are the glories of the holy name, all over

“adav ante ca madhye ca harih sarvatra giyate”

Hari has been chanted, has been glorified in the beginning of Srila Prabhupada’s books, you could say in the middle end everywhere “harih sarvatra giyate”. So people of this age of kali, I mean we were one time very much in the middle of the age of kali and I am sure from wherever we were Maharashtra, Gujarat or wherever we were born, from there we have come here, today Govardhan Ecovillage. Do you think Srila Prabhupada’s books made the difference or Srila Prabhupada’s books they have brought you all the way to this point, yes-no? How many of you would say so? Everybody, Haribol !!!

Then, now we have become, you have become sadhus “sadhava sadhu-bhushana” these are your ornaments, titiksavah karunikah, the tolerance and compassion. So someone was compassionate and he gave you Krishna, in the form of Srila Prabhupada’s books gave you this knowledge opened your eyes. You were blind, right? And then “caksur unmilitam” someone did the operation, someone gave the book and immediately, as soon as he had the books then he had the glasses sastra-caksusa hey !! Now I could see, I could see! So someone kindly guided you, gave you book then you read or others explained those further explained those books or points.

So I think it is our turn, it’s your turn now, to be kind to our brothers or fellow human beings and give them helping hand, give them knowledge, give them knowledge packed poured into those books in the form of word-meanings and translations and purports. Give those books out and yeah this will be very pleasing to Srila Prabhupada and then

“yasya prasadad bhagavat-prasado”

And Lord also has said that towards the end of Bhagvad Gita, He says, what is that? No one is dear to me as dear as he or she, who shares this samvadam, this conversation between Krishna and Arjuna. This conversation which is very confidential, beneficial and that person becomes very-very dear. Of course.Lord is pleased with them and they are very dear to him. So this knowledge distribution, book distribution is not a business or sometimes it is also said if there is any business authorized, transcendental business that gaudiya vaishnavas do that is book distribution. All Acaryas,

“nana-sastra-vicarannaika-nipunnau sad-dharma-samsthapakau nana-sastra-vicar”

Big pile of scriptures in the middle and Goswamis are sitting around and they are doing nana sastra vichar and they are writing, they are contemplating, they are sharing and then those three Prabhus were the first, travelling sankirtan book distribution party from Vrindavan, the grantha-mandir, eventually these books were piled in a cart and Narottam das Thakur, Shyamananda and Srinivas Acharya, 500 years old, original Sankirtan party, transporting books.
And I think we also, did some, atleast Prabhupada sent us from Vrindavan to Mayapur in 1976. He also asked us to start a bullock-cart sankirtan party. And Srila Prabhupada, he did even inauguration of that Bullock cart Sankirtan Party. And what were we doing, we were distributing, those days we would not have so… many-many books as we have them now or English books they were getting printed but certainly we did not have them in vernacular language. Prabhupada used this word, he wrote me a letter. So travelling and travelling anyways, our party has reached Kanpur, our destination was Mayapur. So there I wrote to Prabhupada that our Party needs, we could use some financial assistance and Prabhupada sent me a reply. And he said, “Outside help is no good” (Guru maharaj laughing). And, he said “you should distribute books in vernacular language and raise your funds and that way manage”.
And Prabhupada enclosed Sankirtan newsletters, says “your god brothers from the west look at the scores, they are distributing books and this is how they are also maintaining our institution, you do the same with the Bullock-cart Sankirtan”.

So that was a big challenge it took quite some time but eventually our padayatra Sankirtan book distribution party also not only they, So, okay on the way, there were bullock-carts, it’s not a carts, it’s a chariot, it’s a ratha pulled by the bulls and there is a kirtan in the front, it’s amplification and the deities are in the chariot. Prabhupada is seating on the front and there is a driver and I was just there last week in the Trupati ratha, I also drove.

And as people hear kirtan even bulls unless we do kirtan the bulls are not very enthusiastic to pull the cart (laughter). And as the kirtan is heard by all people, passersby or those who are in the field or wherever they are, immediately that gets the attention and then they look and something is moving on the road and they, they come running, they come running and ones they are there, there is darshan, there is a charanamrita and we distribute books. I just did that, few days ago and then we made all those who had bought the books and there were lot of people, so many on my right side, so many on my left side and we took a photograph and they were very happy, carrying books.

Then also the bullock cart sankirtan party in 1976, we had a much simpler set up but even then as we entered the village, we would have a group of brahmacharis, they would perform kirtan in the front of the cart and other few this side, few other side going from house to house and would cover the whole village. Kirtan is on and of course we would also do bhiksham dehi, bhiksham dehi…we would have been also begging for alms or whatever they could give atta or potatoes or yeah chilli for you and collecting grains and vegetables and distributing books also along with the kirtan party.

Later on in 77, the BBT travelling sankirtan party, Gopal Krishna Maharaj, while my bullock cart sankirtan party was on the road, then I also was asked to while overseeing the bullock cart sankirtan party I would also be travelling for the BBT vehicle sankirtan party distribute books and from time to time see how the bullock cart is running or walking as this was, Prabhupada had approved that. Prabhupada had approved, I do the bullock cart sankirtan and then Gopal Krishna Maharaj’s intervention he also wanted me to do the BBT travelling sankirtan party so when we had a van and we had installed the speakers on the top of the van and sound system and we would go to towns and villages. We would start from one end of the town, we would put on Prabhupada’s kirtans out loud and brahmachari’s with the book bags, door to door, shop to shop and kirtan then I would get on the mike and also make announcement encouraging “the book distributors are coming and we are from here and please they have gift for you, book for you, Gita for you, go for it and this and that”.

And those were the days, Bhagvad Gita “daha rupeya madhe Bhagvat Gita” (Marathi). Same Bhagvad Gita, we have distributed in 10 rupees. Aamogh-lila you remember Amogh-lila? Once, he travelled from I think Pune or Mumbai to Pandarpur, Akshaynanda swami also and he was distributing books. “ghyah-bagha daha rupai fakta daha rupai fakt daha rupai” (Marathi). So we would announce, I would announce and distributors would distribute books, again the kirtan on. So that was nice mostly that was a formula that we would apply wherever we went.

Put on the kirtan and along with a vehicle kirtan parties the book distributors would move and they would give all the encouragement. Hye!! look, look our vehicle is here, our party or we are here and as devotees heard they are inspired, they were getting, all the strength from the sound vibration of “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare” .

And so big support for those books distributors, they are not by themselves and you know, there is no one around me just me and only me, it’s me to face the maya, all the forces by yourself. This is also not advisable, Prabhupada always sent us in pairs even for life membership program in Mumbai that we would be doing and we always went in pairs. That gives you strength, so having a party, what to speak of having a bigger party and then, what to speak of having a kirtan on loudspeaker and when all the books are sold out you come back and fill up your bags again and then go out and as it’s to be a transcendental fun, and then move to the next town to the next town and to the next town.

And so last time that our party had travelled to and by that time we had a name for our party called Narada muni travelling sankirtan party. We started with BBT but then we gave a name because we were travelling so extensively like Narada muni would move, swiftly. So it was month of November 77. That reminds you of something? Yeah, so we were on the road and we had gone to Himalayan Mountains and Badrikashram for long time we had no news of Srila Prabhupada’s health and those days no mobiles or no SMS and ohh what not? Even telephone forget it even calling from Delhi to Vrindavan, not so easy but we were at Himalayas .

So we finally decided to return to, to climb down and return to Vrindavan . And as soon as we arrived in that Krishna-Balarama temple we went straight to Srila Prabhupada’s quarter and we requested secretary that we are allowed to have darshan of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Prabhupada kindly allowed. And our whole Narada Muni travelling Sankirtan Party, brahmacharis mostly, we were all brahmacharis, I was only sanyasi, I had taken sanyasa.
So Prabhupada on the bed, lying for months he was in the bed only. Only occasionally they would make him sit for some feeding, some drinking or just for a change, otherwise mostly lying down. So as we sat around Srila Prabhupada in that such a state and as he knew that we have just returned from a traveling sankirtan, those days traveling sankirtan means book distribution, Book distribution party is here.

And immediately Prabhupada opens a dialogue. And this is just may be 5-6 days prior to Prabhupada’s departure on 14th of November he departed and we are talking about 5-6 days prior. So immediately Prabhupada is enquiring, ohh!! which book is selling the most? And which books are we carrying selling? The whole dialogue, this is how books were on in his heart or on his mind and books….books….that’s why distribute books, distribute books, distribute books . And I will never die so far the books are being distributed that makes me, gives me life or I feel young. And otherwise also, secretary always used to tell us, there is a pile of mail that Prabhupada would receive and the first mail that he would be interested about reports of the book distribution. Those mails are first reported to Srila Prabhupada.

So with us also I personally experienced that how dear it was to his heart this book distribution. I had also humorously mentioned to Srila Prabhupada same time that while we were at Badrikashram “Srila Prabhupada, we showed your Bhagvad Gita to Srila Vyasadeva” I said. Because while at Badrikashram, we had visited the cave of Srila Vyasadeva’s cave. There is a Ganesha Gufa not far away from there. So because we were carrying Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagvad- Gita, so I thought, he resides there. We did not see him but for sure he saw us and sure he also saw Prabhupada’s Bhagvad- Gita. So I threw that humorous statement. We showed your Bhagvad-Gita to Srila Vyasadeva, Prabhupada. Prabhupada was happy to hear. So, the very first conversation of we talk more, but it began with the book distribution and which books, and which books is selling the most and these enquiries.

So, it’s important that you, you the second generation, and also third generation, I see some more new bodies, some older and some older sons and some have departed also. That we know how our founder Acarya His divine grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabupada , what value what importance he gave to this book distribution activity and of course, he was instructed to do so, not whimsically, he had this idea of. If you ever get money what you do with that money? Print books. So this was Swami Bhaktishiddhant Saraswati Thakura’s instruction.
And finally there was money and then there were books and he did not want them to be just printed and stored and take a photograph, looks nice, good stock. Fill in the stores, print out and pack the godowns and the other part is emptying the godowns, distributing books. So, yeah also, of course read books, read books of Srila Prabhupada more you read, you will realize the mahima, the mahatmya, the greatness of those books and you could be more convinced. This book is the most valuable thing in the world I want to give this to others share this gift. And this is kari kar para upakar giving others, giving Srila Prabhupada’s books to as many people as possible; there is the demand all over. There is a big demand everywhere.

I was just in China two months ago and we had opportunity to distribute Prabhupada’s Chinese Bhagvat Gita as it is (everybody clapped and said Haribol) and we ended up with distributing 1200 Bhagvad Gitas in 10 days (Haribol). And that was nice and that also was kirtan and book distribution or program was mostly kirtan little talk. Mostly kirtan and then those who were coming for kirtan party and they had to pay entrance fees which included the cost of the book. They were giving books free but that was part of the entrance fees. So we were doing kirtan, chanting and distributing books at the same time.

Srila Prabhupada ki… Jai!!
Srila Prabhupada transcendental book distribution ki…… jai!!
Nitai Gaur Premanande Hari Haribol!!

Padayatra- Walking Back to Godhead

Dated: 12th October 2015
Venue: Akaramapalli Namahatta center, All India Padayatra

Lord Ram and Laxman appeared in Treta yuga, same Ram Laxman appeared in Dwapara yuga as Krishna Balaram. In this present age kali yuga beginning of the age of kali they appeared as Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu. So it is like Ram Laxman has come now seated in the chariot.

Balaji is also non different from Krishna, Balaji is Krishna, Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Krishna. Vakula mai, Balaji’s kitchen incharge, you know Vakula? She is Yasoda mai. So Yasoda and Rohini’s children are Krishna Balaram. And then Krishna Balaram had gone to Dwaraka, where Balaram was married he had only one wife (Laughter) Krishna had more than 16,000 wives. All these marriages were attended by Vasudev and Devaki. But Nanda and Yasoda they were in Vrindavan they were not able to take part in the marriage ceremony.

All the mothers have desire to see their sons getting married, they rarely would like to see their son becoming a brahmachari (laughter). So knowing the desire of His mother Lord Krishna arranged His own marriage ceremony. That pastime took place in Narayan Vanam. So Balaji is Sri Krishna, Jai Balaji.

So you may consider Balaji has come or Ram Laxman has come or Krishna Balaram has come in the form of Guar Nitai, Nitai Guarsundar Ki…..jai

We are all His children, yes you are or not? Haribol (response of the devotees there). You may say I am a father, mother I am not a child infact I have children. How could be a child? All the souls are children of the Lord and that Lord has come to your town. On the chariot there is also murti of Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada founder acharya of ISKCON and my spiritual master.

So 50 years ago Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada he travelled to America. He travelled by cargo boat, his journey started from Kolkatta boat went to Colambo and to Cochin. Just yesterday I and many ISKCON leaders were present in Cochin to have a memorial celebration of 50th anniversary of Srila Prabhupad’s departure to America.
So Srila Prabhupada was a great devotee of Caitanya and Nityananda, Nitai Guarsundar. He was chosen empowered “saksad-dhari” who was sent to the west. To make Lord’s prediction come true, 500 years Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu predicted “Prithvite ache yata nagaradi grama sarvatra prachara haibe mora nama” – My name will be chanted in every town, in every village of this planet. Srila Prabhupada after reaching America he founded this International Society for Krishna Consciousness to spread the Holy Name everywhere. To spread this chanting of “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare” everywhere.

Srila Prabhupada the founder acharya of Hare Krishna movement, asked us to do this Padayatra- travelling with this bullock cart. Walking festival- Padayatra, he asked us to start padayatra on 1st Sept 1976 in New Delhi, that was Radhastami day, Haribol……..

We were just 10-15 disciples of Srila Prabhupada, those days they were only disciples of Prabhupada there were no other Guru’s in ISKCON he was the only spiritual master. So when everything was ready, kind of ready then we requested Prabhupada to inaugurate the padayatra. Again 1976 we were ready to go from Vrindavan to Mayapur walking…Haribol. Prabhupada gave us that instruction- “you go to Mayapur from Vrindavan”. During inaugural function we sat down and Prabhupada gave us further inspiration and instructions to do this Padayatra –Bullock cart sankirtan party.

Then again the main purpose was to spread the Holy Name around, distribute the knowledge about Krishna in the form of Gita, Bhagvatam. Prabhupada said “jare dako tare kaho hare Krishna upadesh” (Laughter). He said little differently from what Caitanya Mahaprabhu said. He said you may be going to the villages people may not always understand the philosophy so instead of “jare dekho, tare kaho krsna-upadesa” he said “Hare Krishna upadesh”.
Let them chant “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare”. This program started in 76, and during Prabhupada’s 100th birth anniversary, 100th birthday celebration of Srila Prabhupada we organized Padayatra in 100 countries..Haribol…Europe padayatra, Australia padayatra, Mauritius padayatra, South Africa padayatra ….all over the planet Hare Krishna devotees have walked, danced, chanted Hare Krishna.

This is Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s program; this is God’s program- this propagation of the holy name, spreading the holy name, bringing holy name to every person that we meet. And this particular party “All India Padayatra”, what’s the name? Srila Prabhupad’s All India Padayatra. I don’t know whether you have seen back of this cart? We have gone around 5 times parikrama of whole India…Haribol.. Badrikashrama in the north, Jagganath Puri in the east, Rameshwar in the south and Dwaraka in the west like this 5 times and then zigzagging also in between (laughter). We also have come to Tirupati, I think this is the 5th or 6th time we have come to Tirupati.

We have gone to thousands of villages and towns in India. These Padayatra devotees just only during month of kartik they go to Vrindavan for Vraj mandal Parikrama otherwise other 11 months this cart is on road, going from one village to another to another. This padayatra has walked 150,000 kilometers …..haribol. And as I said during the day these murtis are Nitai Guarsundar, ISKCON has many other travelling parties travelling groups they carry Guar Nitai deities on travelling book distribution parties but these deities are most travelled deities on this planet…Haribol. Millions of Indians in all the states of India almost all the states of india they have taken darshan of Nitai Guarsundar ki……….jai

Srila Prabhupada has revealed Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Nityananda Prabhu to the world. He was kind of concealed or covered, He was limited to Bengal and Orissa, people of Bengal and Orissa knew who is Caitanya Mahaprabhu nowhere else. Caitanya Mahaprabhu was locked in Caitanya Carita Amrita which was in Bengali script world did not read Srila Prabhupada translated Caitanya Caritamrita in English language and then, is it available in telagu? Translation is going on in telagu language also and so many languages around the world. In this way Srila Prabhuapada has presented Caitanya Mahaprabhu to the whole world.

As we said “Vrajendra-nandana jei, saci-suta hoilo sei, balarama hoilo nitai” so one who was Nandanandan He becomes Sacinandan that’s Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Balaram becomes Nityananda Prabhu. So these are their identities, they are Krishna Balaram. They are Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna Caitanya Mahaprabhu ki ……Jai, Nityananda Prabhu ki……………..jai

So they were acting like devotees, when Lord appeared He was acting like a devotee. Acting like a devotee or acting like Radharani who is a devotee of Lord. “jagate sikhaye” – to teach the whole world Lord was playing a role of a devotee. By His own example Lord is teaching and inspiring the whole world to worship the Lord, Chant the holy name of the Lord.

He played that role so perfectly as a devotee, so the world misunderstood Him or they understood Him as a devotee. Hye! He is a devotee, He is a bhakta, like Tukaram was in Maharastra and Narsingh Mehta was in Gujarat and Mira bai was in Rajasthan and also Nanak ji and Surdas and this likewise in Bengal there was great devotee called Caitanya. So the world thought he is a devotee, yes! You are a devotee. His real identity is He is Lord Himself “sri Krishna caitanya radha Krishna nahi anya”- Caitanya Mahaprabhu is non different from Radha and Krishna.

Why does He have a golden complexion? Why is he Gauranga? “antha Krishna bahira guara” inside He is Krishna and from outside He has covered Himself with Radhaduti and bhava- the complexion of Radharani. So what is the color of Radharani? Who knows? Matajis know? Gold, Ya you always like gold (Laughter) .

Real gold is Guaranga, Guarangi, you should get attracted to Guaranga and Gaurangi. “tapta kanchan gaurabgi radhe vrindavane swari” radhe vrindavane swari- she is controller of Vrindavan, queen of Vrindavan. She is “tapta kanchan” Her complexion is likethat of molten gold. So Lord assumed that complexion of Radharani, thats radhaduti- that’s complexion, duti means complexion.

Lord also assumed the bhava “radha-bhava-dyuti-suvalitam” – bhava – the emotions of Radharani. And this private, confidential reason why Lord appears as Caitanya Mahaprabhu to understand Radharani, to understand her emotions her devotion. So Krishna becomes Radharani.

So that Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda prabhu they had traveled 500 years personally all over India. You remember Balaram had traveled all over India? When Krishna was busy during Kuruksetra war driving the chariot of Arjuna. So same Balaram when He appeared as Nityananda Prabhu, He also traveled the way Balaram had traveled.
Hare Krishna

Srila Prabhupada is Bharat Ratna of this soil

The materialism versus spiritualism, so India has always stood for the values, the spiritual values. India produces men of character and big big heros, personalities. There was a time the students, the scholars they would come to India to study different sciences. India was known for the knowledge. Knowledge is complete knowledge; our shastras are also, all aspects. Not just how to attain moksha and go beyond this existence and attain liberation. That of course, but even how to lead a practical life, a successful life, a good life, healthy life, prosperous life. How to do that, this was also taught. This education was also there. That knowledge did exist. That treasure, house of knowledge still there. We had Nalanda, you heard that name, that university? Nalanda and Takshashila and Navadvipa. The scholars came from all over the world. One scholar from China, he had come and travelled, toured all over India. And he was so impressed with the learning, the body of knowledge, all aspects of knowledge and the scriptures which contain complete knowledge. Materialism, spiritualism, you name it and it was all in there.

So I just read this, this scholar, his name is Chinese name; during his tour, he has gathered all the manuscripts which he wanted to bring back home, Back to China. (Laughter)

His home, it sounded like back to home, back to Godhead. And then, he was taking some scholars with him who would teach, interpret those scriptures and explain the deeper meanings. So as they were back home, back to China, they had to travel on the way through a boat. What ocean that could be? Bay of Bengal, some tours, Japan side, Pacific and like that they were going. So they were traveling in a boat loaded with the manuscripts from India and the scholars also. It must be some rainy season like that. Again not just India or Hindus. Because this knowledge that we are talking is a science like a physics and chemistry and other sciences. It is said everywhere, right? H2O, 2 parts of hydrogen and 1 part of oxygen and all that. KLMnO4, catalyst and what comes out is H2O. This is the same formula that is being taught all over. Then this is called scientific. In fact, knowledge given by the Lord and our sages is scientific, is eternal, unchangeable, very valuable.

So Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada ki jai!! He was that Bharatratna. You may want to call someone Bharatratna and give a title. He was the ratna of this soil. He knew the value and then he endeavored to share this knowledge, this wealth, this treasure with the rest of the world by establishing, by founding this International Society for Krsna Consciousness. I am personally very very happy. This is how Srila Prabhupada was encouraging his countrymen to step forward and understand India’s culture, India’s scriptures, India’s wealth, real wealth and be enriched, become rich in experience and make the whole world also richer. So he did a lot. He did everything possible so that, some of the Indians will understand the value of the world around all over will understand. And he was successful. We could see right here he is taking every opportunity he took talking all the time, sharing this knowledge all the time. So it was kind of disappointing in early days that just one student from Bombay joining. Of course later on some more joined and more they are joining. But I am talking of the way it started in ’71, ’72, ’73. So not only I am happy , I am happy because I know that what used to make Prabhupada happy. I am sure Prabhupada is watching from wherever and he is happy to see so many youths of India are taking keen interest in this subject matter. So it is very encouraging. So I am happy that I have the opportunity to be with you, share something with you today.

Curbing the symbol of sin, that is the whole work for us this evening. Curbing, killing, smashing, dashing and subduing the sin or symbol of sin. It says in fact, the greatest symbol of sin is the lust.
Thank you

Srila Prabhupada cannot disappear from this world

Venue: Vrindavan
Dated: 2008
Occasion: Srila Prabhupad’s Disappearance day

As we are gathered here at the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada remembering him, I am reminded of a verse from the Bhagavatam.

“yesam samsmaranat pumsam sadyah suddhyanti vai grhah
kim punar darsana-sparsa-pada saucasanadibhih” (S.B 1.19.33)

Thus, the remembrance is sufficient for suddhyanti, for purification, remembrance of Srila Prabhupada. ‘kim punar darsana’, then what to speak, some of us had also opportunity for darshan of Srila Prabhupada. ‘sparsa’ the touch, the lotus feet also we touched and massaged his feet. ‘pada saucasanadibhih’ we did worshiping and washing his lotus feet. ‘asana adi bhi’, we offered him asann and etcetera, so many other services we were able to render while he was amongst us. But now all that we are left behind is basically one item from this list and that is darshan. And I was saying darshan that is available now to us is only sada darshan, the philosophy. So Prabhupada gave us his instructions and we could be sheltered by that darshan.

Today we have assembled to celebrate the disappearance day. But on the occasion like this, especially on disappearance day, I feel Prabhupada is appearing more, Haribol!!

As we hear about him, as we are reminded about him, especially I got to see Prabhupada disciples gathering in big number on this occasion. And my thought also, we cannot imagine Prabhupada’s disappearance. Prabhupada cannot disappear from this world, from ISKCON, from our life. That could be the end of lot of things if Prabhupada disappeared. We cannot allow that.

Hence, darshan of Srila Prabhupada in the form of his instruction, were specific instructions also given to us. And general instructions and his purports, his books full of darshan which is available now, accessible to not only to his disciples, but grand disciples and generations to come. This morning I was strongly feeling gratitude, I feel occasionally, should feel this all the time. But today I was thinking Prabhupada gave me Krsna. Prabhupada gave me life. I was dead. Life without Krishna is simply a death.

We become lively; life comes as we are made lively by the spiritual master, by his instructions and his guidance. We are all indebted to Srila prabhupada for what he has done. He has given Krsna. Is there anything more anyone else could give? No. So once his disciples were asking, “Is there anything we could do to become free from the debt that we owe to you Srila Prabhupada?” He said, “Nothing could be done.” But after a little pause he said, “Yes, you do as I did.” And that refers to, ‘You preach as I preached.’

It’s nice we are gathered and we are making offerings. But then the best offering would be offering ourselves wholly and solely to propagate the mission of Srila Prabhupada which is Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s mission. Giving Krsna to more and more and more people and this will be most pleasing to Srila Prabhupada. And as we do that, Srila Prabhupada who is very far from us, he will be very next to us as we follow that instruction.
So on this day, we are being reminded, it’s a day of separation but how we could stay closer is by following him, dedicate our lives to propagate this Krsna consciousness movement for the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada ki jay!!!!

Krishna is the only way, Krishna Consciousness is the only way

“yenaivaham bhagavato vasudevasya vedhasah
mayanubhavam avidam yena gacchanti tat-padam”
(SB 1.5.31)

Translation: By that confidential knowledge, I could understand clearly the influence of the energy of Lord Sri Krsna, the creator, maintainer and annihilator of everything. By knowing that, one can return to Him and personally meet Him.

Purport: By devotional service or by the most confidential knowledge, one can understand very easily how the different energies of the Lord are working. One part of energy is manifesting the material world; the other (superior) part of His energy is manifesting the spiritual world. And the via medium energy is manifesting the living entities who are serving either of the above-mentioned energies. The living entities serving material energy are struggling hard for existence and happiness, which is presented to them as illusion. But those in the spiritual energy are placed under the direct service of the Lord in eternal life, complete knowledge and perpetual bliss. The Lord desires, as He has directly said in the Bhagavad-Gita, that all conditioned souls, rotting in the kingdom of material energy, come back to Him by giving up all engagements in the material world. This is the most confidential part of knowledge. But this can be understood only by the pure devotees, and only such devotees enter the kingdom of God to see Him personally and serve Him personally. The concrete example is Narada himself, who attained this stage of eternal knowledge and eternal bliss. And the ways and means are open to all, provided one agrees to follow in the footsteps of Sri Narada Muni. According to sruti, the Supreme Lord has unlimited energies (without effort by Him), and these are described under three principal headings, as above mentioned.

Wonderful proposal is here, that we could meet Him. Good news! We could meet Him!! Haribol!! If you are interested, if there is will then there is a way. No will no way, there is no way you will meet Him. If there is no will then there is no way, forget it.

But those who are interested meeting Him, it seems possible. This was the experience of those Bhaktivedantas. You were here, right for some days? They know what the story line is. You know who is speaking here? Narada Muni is speaking and he is speaking unto Srila Vyasdeva. Conversation between Srila Narada Muni and Srila Vyasdeva, the two very great great personalities. In fact, they have been listed in the list of incarnations. Krsna, the source of all incarnation’s chapter. These temple devotees have gone through chapter number three. And in there, you find the name of Srila Vyasdeva, You find the name of Srila Narada Munii. So know these two great souls, these two incarnations of the Lord, empowered incarnations of the Lord. They are meeting in Badarikashram, almost on the top of the Himalayan Mountain. Badarikashram is on the top, Himalaya ke godha mein. On the bank of Sarasvati they are meeting. Alakananda, the sacred branch of Ganga is also not far from there. One morning, one beautiful morning like this one today. Is this beautiful? This is okay, good one but more beautiful up there, where everything is so clear, no pollution, no car goes there. No, the cars are also allowed going but when they had this conversation, everything was clear. Not only the air was clear but the consciousness also, especially of Narada Muni. Srila Vyasdeva was facing some difficulty. His consciousness was bit polluted. And as a result, he was despondent. As Narada Muni arrived from above, from his travelling preaching mission and as he comes, Narada Muni is never quiet, never quiet. He is always chanting ‘narada muni bajaye vina radhikaramana namne’. Others say he is always chanting ‘narayana narayana’. But that is not the case, he does chant ‘narayana narayana’ but he also chants names of Radhika and Raman. He is very confidential devotee of the Lord, associate of the Lord. He has place in Badarikashram. He is worshipper of that Badri Narayana in this Bharata varsha. There is so many varshas, nine varshas? Yes? And one of them is Bharata varsha and the deity is Narayana and the worshipper is Narada Muni. So while chanting the names of the Lord, he was arriving, descending, landing there. And then he saw Srila Vyasdeva and he didn’t seem very happy. “Hey! What’s wrong with you? You are not a family man (Laughter) And these early morning hours also? You should be jolly.

“brahma-bhutah prasannatma na socati na kanksati’ (BG 18.54)

For realised soul there is no lamentation, there is no hankering, ‘prasannatma’ he is always blissful, “But look at you face.” And then Srila Vyasdeva, ‘guhyam akyati prachati’, he disclosed his mind in confidence what he was facing. He was having little hard time or in the terms that which are used these days. He didn’t have a job satisfaction (Laughter). He had compiled so many scriptures, Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads and Vedanta Sutra, Mahabharata. But still he was not happy with the job he has done for the compilation of all these texts. Here Narada Muni is the spiritual master of Srila Vyasdeva. So Srila Vyasdeva said, ‘Please I would like you to do the review of my books, book review. “So Narada Muni undertook the task and immediately came with the conclusion. ‘Yes yes certainly I could now see why you are not very happy.” ‘vasudevasya mahima hy anuvarnitah’ (SB 1.5.9). “Where is mahima of Vasudeva? You have compiled all these scriptures. Well, you have sprinkled few drops of here and there of some mahima of Vasudeva. But ‘hari sarvatra giyate’ Hari should have been everywhere on every page. In every line, every word, every single syllable. ‘vasudevam sarvam iti’ Vasudeva is all in all. But you have kept Vasudeva out of your all these books or just little touch. And that’s the reason you are not happy.” So as for observations and recommendations of Narada Muni, who was the spiritual master of Srila Vyasdeva, he undertook compilation of yet another scripture. And he compiled the final and the best scripture in existence. That was and that still is Srimad Bhagavatam ki jai!!!

So while they were talking, conversations continued after the book review, statements… ‘srnvanti gayanti grnanti sadhavah’ (SB 1.5.11). “You should compile a scripture that is very dear to the sadhus, the saintly person, saintly devotees of the Lord. So that they could do ‘srnvanti gayanti grnanti sadhavah abhiksanah’ all the time also. By reading that scripture, they will be purified. ‘te eva pasyanti achirena tavakam padambujam’. And if they study such scripture, Bhagavatam, then as person hears and chants and recites and remembers, the result is ‘te eva pasyanti’. They will be able to see. ‘achirena’ they will not take much time. What will they see, ‘padambujam’ the lotus feet of the Lord and then beautiful form of the Lord, beautiful face of the Lord.” So as they were still talking about e subject matter , Srila Narada Muni is talking about his previous life. In his previous life, he was son of a maid servant. Well, how did he get there or how did he end in becoming son of a maid servant. Then we have talk of his previous yet another life. In his previous life, he was a Gandharva. He was a very exalted person in a higher planetary system. And so many singers and reciters were invited and it was expected that they would chant the glories of Sri Krsna, ‘vasudevasya mahima’. But there were also many young beautiful girls in the assembly. So he lost the track. He was distracted, he lost his focus, forgot his mission. And he ended up chanting the glory of demigods. He forgot the Supreme Personality of Godhead and he was chanting ‘jaya durge, jaya ambe….’ (Laughter). As a result of that, he was cursed to become son of a maid servant in the next life. So in the second life as he was son of a maid servant, that is what he is talking about in the present third life that he has now achieved when he is talking to Srila Vyasdeva about his second life, middle life.

So that time he was very lucky although son of a maid servant. It was month of Caturmasya, the four months starting with shravan, bhadrapad, ashvin and kartika. These four months are called Caturmasyas. So some bhaktivedantas had come, some parivrajakacharya, the travelling monks had come. The exalted devotees of Sri Krsna had come. They had come just outside his village. I am going to make this long story short so that we could reach the conclusion or come to where we are now. This verse, we are way behind (Maharaj talking). So he had opportunity to associate with the saintly persons. His mother used to go so he also used to go behind the mother. He had no father, no brother. He was the only child, so he used to go with the mother. Mother busy in the kitchen washing pots, cleaning. She had several services. And the child is to be around the saintly person. “Hey boy, come here, come here. Bring some water. Bring some tulasi, bring some Ganga jal. Bring this, take this.” And the child was running happily doing this and that for the saintly persons and he would also listen to the message. And one important thing he did, he says ( This is Narada Muni infact, talking to Srila Vyasdeva how he came to Krsna consciousness. How he became devotee of Krsna). Like in our Back to Godhead magazines, we publish articles, ‘How I came to Krsna consciousness.’ That is the subject matter and Narada Muni is talking, how he came to Krsna consciousness. ” I had association of devotees. I rendered some service to those devotees. I listened to some messages but I also ate lots of prasadam. With their permission, I took lots of prasadam”.

As they were living, those bhaktivedantas were very kind to poor hearted souls. ‘krpaya deena vatsalah’, they were very very kind, ‘deena vatsalah’, the poor in consciousness. You have no money or empty pocket, then also you are poor. But there is another kind of being poor. Other way you could be poor in consciousness. Of the two, it is better to have no money but you are rich in consciousness. Every and each consciousness you have Krsna for you. In fact, that’s all you need. That’s all soul needs. “So these bhaktivedantas, they were very very kind to me.” Narada Muni says. “‘jnana guhyatamam’, they gave me most confidential knowledge.” One more time, they may have summarized all the Bhagavatam or something in essence, one more time, one more time most confidential. So Narada, he was not Narada Muni that time, he became Narada later on. One more time he heard. ‘yena’ in this verse, first word is what? What is the first word? ‘yena’ by which. ‘By which’, this refers to, by the confidential knowledge that he had, Narada Muni had received. I could understand clearly the influence of the energy of the Supreme Lord Sri Krsna. He could understand everything. He could understand the energies of the Lord, different energy of the Lord about which Prabhupada is talking in the purport. And by knowing that, one can return to Him, the Personality and meet Him personally.

So Narada Muni had received this knowledge and he did meet Lord personally. He is talking about what he has heard. But then, soon after this bhagavat recitation, most unfortunate thing happened to Narada Muni. He lost his mother. While she was going in the middle of the night to milk the cow and the snakebite and she was dropped dead there. Oh what to do? But he was prepared. Because he had all the knowledge. He was equipped with the knowledge. He was not lost, he was not bewildered. He was not confused, he exactly knew what to do under the circumstances. Well, certainly it was beyond him, the death of the mother. No child, no no, what to speak of a child wanting mother’s death. No, he had never ever thought of such thing. But he had no control over. He took that as Lord’s arrangement. So he did the final rites. He burnt two things. He burnt the body of the mother and he also burnt little house they had, little hut they had he also burnt. In fact, we heard that he brought the body to the house, to the hut. And he burnt the hut with that body of the mother also. Now he has no one in the world, no property, no relatives, but he had that knowledge. He had that confidential knowledge. And what is the purpose of that knowledge, ‘vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyo’ (B.G 15.15) ” I am to be known”. The knowledge that one acquires. Well then we have to understand which knowledge helps us to understand Him, the Supreme Lord.

‘raja vidya raja guhyam pavitram idam uttamam’ B.G 9.2). The king of knowledge, “adhyatma vidya vidyanam’ (B.G 10.32), ‘adhyatma vidya’ knowledge about the self. Who am I? ‘athato brahma jijnasa’. “Oh dear human being, oh, now finally and fortunately you have become human being. Become inquisitive, inquire, find out who you are, and what is this world all around you. And when you are no more, when you are dead, you would be wanting to turn left or right or go up and down. You should have all the plan. You should know everything. You should know vidya. You should also know avidya.” This is the advice of Isopanishad. Not only vidya, avidya also. So Narada Muni was equipped with this knowledge. As he had no one around him, he starts travelling, walking and walking, doing padayatra. Going through the towns, villages and industrial areas, the forest and the hills. And he comes to a very thick, forest was dark in the middle of the day. And the snakes were crawling and the owls making all the very scary sounds. Fierce animals were roaming freely; of course this was their home. In the midst of all that, there was little Narada, he was just a young boy. But he was not afraid of nothing. He was only thinking. He was remembering all that he had heard and read the Bhagavatam. He was thinking,as a result of thinking of the Lord, where is my Lord, where is my Lord? He was looking for the Lord. He was very hungry and thirsty. But all that he could see was there was a water body. So he quickly took bath and drank water. That’s all, no food, only water. He felt some relief then he sat underneath a tree and he started meditating upon the Lord in the heart. Looking, searching and searching and he was just fixed. He was fully focused, only thing he was seeing as per the description of the Lord and His beautiful form. He was fixing his mind on that Lord. He is Syamsundara, he was thinking of Syamsundara’s form. The pinkish lotus feet, the Lord’s ankle bells, Lord’s thighs are short and waist is like a lady, a thin waist Lord has. Lord’s navel, broad chest, long arms reaching His knees. Short neck, raised nose, reddish lips, lotus eyes, blooming lotus eyes. Broad forehead, beautiful curly hair and a peacock feather. ‘pitambara aravinda netra’, was wearing pitambara…like that. His palms were also pinkish and they were like a lotus hanging. He was not holding lotus but His hands were like a lotus. This part (Maharaj showing with his hand), was like a lotus flower. That part was pinkish, His fingers were like a lotus petal. And the hands were very fragrant also like a lotus, not because some powder was applied there. Naturally the Lord’s hands were fragrant.

So he had been hearing the description of the Lord. There is talk of seeing the Lord in today’s verse. So now he was seeing the Lord, Lord in his heart. And this was result of hearing about that Lord. He wanted to achieve that Lord. He wanted to see that Lord, meet Him personally. And that is what was going on here. He was meeting the Lord in his heart. He had interview with the Lord. He was seeing the Lord face to face. That darshan that audience with the Lord did not last very long. Lord disappeared and then he heard a voice. This is ahead appeal, you will be reading this in following verses and chapters. Then he heard the voice, “Yes, that is it boy. Next time I’ll give you darshan in the next life.” As he was not able to see the Lord, He was not in front of him within his heart anymore, that disturbed his darshan, his samadhi.

Then he had to wait till next birth when he became Brahma’s son. From Lord, Brahma took birth and then Narada Muni appeared. And he had lots of darshans of the Lord. Always taking darshan of the Lord, meeting with the Lord. Dancing with the Lord and everything, his life was just God centered, Krsna centered. So by that confidential knowledge, I could understand clearly the influence of the energy of Lord Sri Krsna, the creator, maintainer and annihilator of everything. By knowing that, one can return to Him and personally meet Him. And what about my life? I have to be engineer. I have to be doctor, I am already somebody. I have a job. Already 9.30 -10 o’clock I have to catch a bus. So this hearing about the Lord, making up the mind of finding the Lord, realize the Lord and finally meet the Lord, is this only for selected few or everyone should be doing this? What do you think? Well, if you are a soul, then you should have a goal of meeting the Supreme soul. Otherwise the whole thing is lost. Are we soul? Is everybody a soul? Everybody has soul? What do you think? Everyone has a soul? No? Some are thinking everybody has no soul. Some are convinced. Students are convinced. But atleast human beings, Christians say animals have no soul. So let us eat them. They are made for us to be exploited, to be enjoyed. Lets think that they are in ignorance, I would say and move on the human race. All human beings, there is a soul in their bodies. You cannot be living being if there is no soul.

Life comes from life, not from matter. Life comes from life and the Supreme life, lively Personality, Personality of Godhead. And he declares in Bhagavad Gita , ‘mamaivamso jiva loka jiva-bhutah sanatanah’ (B.G 15.7). All the living entities, they are My parts and parcels. We are the souls, we are not these bodies. I’m not this hand. This is my hand, I am not Mr. hand, I am not Mr. head, this head belongs to me and this is my chest and the belly. I am not Mr. chest, I am not the legs, legs belong to me. I am the proprietor, in other words I am the proprietor of the hands, head, belly and legs. This belongs to me. Right there with little logic, Srila prabhupada used to use this kind of logic. We could understand that there are two things. There is a ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’. This has been described in Bhagavatam as ‘aham’ and ‘mama’. ‘mi’ ani ‘maza’, ‘mein’ aur ‘mera’. So this mein’, this ‘aham’ this ‘mi’, that is me, that is soul and the rest is the body. And there is another kind of energies of the Lord, external energy of the Lord.

So need of the soul is looking forward to meet the Supreme Lord. Everyone is looking for the Lord. Even George Harrison said that. You heard of George Harrison? He is no more. But he was big big singer. His name was Harrison. He was follower of Srila Prabhupada. He used to chant “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”. And he did big great service to Srila Prabhupada mission in London by donating a big mansion which is known as Bhaktivedanta Manor. And he paid for the entire cost of the printing of the Krsna book long time ago. And in there, there is a George Harrison’s statement and he has signed also. So everyone, everyone is looking for the Lord knowingly or unknowingly. And he explains how everyone is looking for some rich persons. He wants to associate with the rich persons. He is attracted to the rich people or riches or the wealth. No one is exception. Everyone is looking for wealth, riches.

Where is money, where is money? “diva ca arthe haya rajan kutuba bharne nava”. As soon as they get up, Lakshmi Lakshmi Lakshmi. They are chanting the mantra. So they are looking for wealth. Krsna has that wealth, Krsna is full of that wealth, He is Bhagavan, He is dhanavan. He is Bhagavan meaning He is dhanavan. So if you are looking for wealth, that meant even to George Harrison, you are looking for the Lord. You are looking for most wealthy person. If you find someone wealthy, you will say, ‘Oh! he is not as wealthy as that one.” And you go find, meet him ad there is another wealthy person, I go to him like that. Why everyone is interested going to heavenly planets? Because there are even more riches than Tatas and Biralas . People will find Kuvera and other demigods very very rich. But then, there is someone even more richer than the demigods. That is the Supreme Lord. You will not be satisfied by meeting a person who has wealth. You will think, Oh there is another one, another one wealthier. And most wealthy person is Sri Krsna. So you are looking for that ultimate person, most wealthy person. So this is just the wealth part.

Let’s go for the beauty and, oh this person is more beautiful and you meet him. That one is more beautiful, like that. This is how we are changing bodies. Because we are looking for a beautiful person. This one is more beautiful, oh! This one is more beautiful. But the most beautiful is Sri Krsna. So that search that we are searching for a beautiful person, that search will end only when we meet our Lord who is most beautiful.
And knowledgeable, you may know so many knowledgeable people. You may be thinking, ‘My professor is very knowledgeable.’ Oh! But then I know someone else who is a noble laureate and he is more knowledgeable. But the most knowledgeable is again Sri Krsna. What He spoke only for 45 minutes, in the battlefield of Kurukshetra 5000 years ago, that still holds as the truth. Others knowledgeable persons are coming and going. And what they have to say is studied even and becomes popular for 50 years, few 100 years and then that is dumped until someone comes and proves that this is all wrong. Its all bogus, but what Krsna spoke 5000 years ago, so many scholars are trying to understand even today. So Krsna is most knowledgeable. Krsna is most powerful, He showed that, His power by lifting Govardhan hill. That’s nothing; His expansion Anantshesha is holding all the planets. Very very powerful, so He is most powerful. So these are different opulence of the Lord. So our search for the beautiful person, wealthy person, knowledgeable person, renounced person, famous person, strong person, Bhagavan.

“aisvaryasya samagrasya viryasya yasasah sriyah jnana-vairagyayos caiva”

These opulence are Krsna’s, God’s opulence. And the soul is looking for that person. And going for that person, another person, from one body to another, from one planet to another, one universe to another; this search will end only when we find the Lord of our heart. When the soul meets the Supreme soul, then we’ll be fully satisfied and not otherwise. Well, one could search or think of searching the Lord only in the human form of life, not in another species of life. ‘jalaja nava lakshani’ There are 9 lakhs varieties of species in the water. The Vedic texts are so precise. krimayo rudra-sankhyakah ‘ The germs and worms are of 11 lakhs of varieties. ‘pakshinam dasa laksyanam’- 10 lakhs varieties of birds and 20 thousands varieties of plants, 30 thousands varieties of animals. You have been adding? This is 80 lakhs and ‘manusyanam catur laksyanam’, the human species are 400,000 varieties, 4 lakh varieties. They are not all in this planet. Not necessary in this universe but wherever. This breakdown is there and of all the species the human species are most rare species.
Because this offers us the most rare opportunity of coming to the temple. Or coming to God or thinking of God or hearing about God. This dharma business, this religion business is only for human beings. I travelled long distance came from Pandharpur, not a cat has come. Not a dog has come. Only human beings have come. This is a proof that Bhagavatam is dharma, is Krsna. This chanting of the holy name , oh! This is only for human beings. Others can’t even think, it’s beyond them. Only human beings could think. So everyone, Prabhupada had said, is rotting in this material world. Everyone is rotting, suffering. I had to visit hospital in Nagpur few days ago. Terrible experience as I had to visit the Intense Care Unit. Wherever I could see, I don’t want even think …and then you die, Life is tough.

I was in New York; well I was in Nagpur few days ago. But few years ago, I was in New York. On the wall, someone wrote, some New Yoker he wrote his realization on the wall. He said, “Oh, life is tough, and then you die.” That was not all. He had another short line at the bottom. “Then you are born again. For another tough life, tough life, tough life”. Then you die and then born again and again and again and again. No one wants this, no one wants to die. Anyone here, when I had travelled and enquired in South Africa, I was there a few months ago. So, ‘No, I have not met one person, I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die.’ But everyone must die. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to suffer. But suffering is there. We were in Gaya just few weeks ago. Buddha was Siddhartha before? Siddhartha and He wanted to see the world. But His father would not let Him go. He had to stay within the palace compound. No going outside. But He insisted, ‘ No no father, I must go daddy no!’ ‘Okay boy go.’ So He was given a chariot and a chariot driver. They were going around and doing Bharata darshan. And what He saw was, you know. Someone was terribly suffering, lying on the footpath and flies…. He was very sick and what not.

‘Oh! What is wrong with this person?’
‘He is very sick, that’s why he is suffering.’
Siddhartha said, ‘Does everyone get sick?’ Sure. ‘Will I get sick also?’
‘Yes, one day sure no problem.’

And then, move on move on. Someone is struggling to cross the road. He was not only having two feet but another support stick. ‘Hey please help, help me to cross the road.’ He had trembling body. He was falling down and getting up. ‘Hey, what’s wrong with this person chariot driver?’
‘Oh, he is old man, he is weak, invalid and blind now. That’s why he is struggling.’
‘Does everyone get old?’
‘Oh for sure.’
What about me?’
‘You also, no problem you will also get old.’

And then he said, carry on carry on.
‘Oh what is this? Rama naam satya hai, Rama naam satya hai. Hey what is happening here? I see that one person is enjoying nice ride (Laughter). While everyone is walking in hot sun. One person is just… They are throwing flowers on him. He must be a special person. But everyone is saying Rama naam… but he is not.’
‘Oh, he is dead person.’
‘What do you mean?’
‘They will bring him to the ghat and going to burn his body.’
‘What!! Does everyone die?’
‘Sure.’
‘And what about me?’
‘No problem (Laughter), you will also die one day.’

So He had just little darshan as he was going around. Father didn’t want Him to see this. That’s why he was keeping him within the palace. So Siddhartha said, ‘ Okay chariot driver, it’s enough. I have seen the world enough, no more now I don’t want to see the world. Bring My chariot back to the palace.’ Chariot back to the palace and that night, very night…. He was young man, young wife, young son also, Rahul yes? That’s the name. He has a son called Rahul. So He took off in the middle of the night. He goes to Gaya. He becomes enlighten, he wanted to find solution. ‘Oh, I know the four problems. I have made list. Not 40, not 400 problems but My problems are four.’

‘janma mrtyu jara vyadhi duhkha dosanudarsanam (B.G 13.9)

He had made a list. ‘I have four problems that I will be facing. And if I don’t solve them in this life, I’ll have to come back again. Again those four problems and again if I don’t tackle them in that life, then another life and another. I want to put full stop to this suffering!’ So severe austerities and meditation and He becomes enlighten. He becomes Buddha. And then He wants to enlighten others. He was incarnation, one of the ten incarnations of the Lord, Buddha Dev. Don’t think He belongs only to the……. He is also our incarnation. So this Lord Buddha, He made this list for us. These are four problems. Krsna says this in Bhagavad Gita. Prabhupada is talking here. We are rotting here in this material world suffering. So, is there alternative to this suffering? The way out, is this only something that we scare people, so they have hard time even when sleeping at night? Do scriptures talking of only negative things and pointing out suffering of the world and humanity and individuals? No, that’s not the case. There is way out and that way out is realization. I am a soul, I am atma, I am atma. I am spirit soul. I am Krsna’s. I belong to God, I am His part and parcel and I must meet Him. There is so much knowledge about these matters. The soul and the Supreme soul and there is yet another kingdom of the Lord; spiritual kingdom of the Lord. No one knows about it, Krsna knows. And hundreds and thousands of pure devotees have confirmed this fact. Pure devotees, they have no tendency to cheat anybody. Narada Muni, Madhavacharya, Tukaram Maharaj, well just named few. There are thousands of them. Hundreds and thousands say the same thing over again and again and again. They only think of the welfare of others, these great personalities. And they are confirming these facts which have been said by Krsna in Bhagavad Gita or described in Bhagavatam.

Scientists do not know, of course well why should scientist know? Just because you are scientist, you should know everything? There was one honest scientist. He was again talking of only material knowledge, was Newton or Einstein or something. He took one particle of sand on the beach. He was on the beach. ‘I know only just one particle. I don’t know about all the particles around me. That much knowledge. There is so much more to know. I know only little bit, this tiny bit.’ We all have tiny brains, with the tiny brain how much could you know? All that people are knowing is about the matter. But there is so much to know about the spirit soul and the spiritual world. The Russian scientists came to conclusion, ‘Oh, if there is a matter, there must be anti matter also. Then is a complete combination.’ They came to this conclusion. If there is matter, there must be anti matter also. Well, you may know something something from this world. You wanted to become javan or kisan or doctor or engineer or some kind of professional. Well fine, we all do that. We know about this trade, that brands about the computers or constructions or cloth making or building, whatever different different things each one of us. But there is one thing that everyone must know about and that is the soul. About soul, everyone should have knowledge. About this world and worldly things, I may know something. And he knows another thing and he knows another thing. He is a science student, he is artist, he is biologist, he is a physicist, he is a geologist, he is a botanist. I am finished with the list. Cosmology, astronomy okay like that. There are so many departments of knowledge. And he belongs to this department, that department. But there is one department which is common for all the souls. There is one knowledge that everyone must study.

Prabhupada was taken on a tour of Boston University and he visited all the departments, 20-30 big tour. And at the end he said, ‘Where is that department that talks about the soul? You don’t have such department? It is incomplete.’ Where is the branch of knowledge? Where is the faculty that teaches about ‘Who am I’? I am studying everything else in the world but I do not know who am I. This is the cause of suffering. This sense of so called enjoyment is there on the surface level which does not last very long. ‘ehi samsparsah ja bhoga duhkha yona ya evate’ Anyone who is enjoying must suffer. This is the law also of this world. Those who wish to enjoy, we don’t stop you. Go ahead enjoy but be prepared to suffer. You may not want to suffer but you must suffer. You have to suffer. These two things go together. This is part of knowledge. This Gita will teach. Be prepared, be aware. You want to enjoy? Okay but you will be suffering. It is not possible to enjoy only. It is also not possible to suffer only. The complete package is two types of seasons. Sukha season and then dukha season. Every body’s life has these two seasons. But Krsna consciousness is talk about going above. No sukha, no dukha only anand which has origin in the soul and the Supreme soul. By nature we are blissful. We talked about God and soul and Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam.

“Oh, but is it accepted or proven by the scientist? Is this scientific? What you are talking, is this scientific?’ Of course, it is scientific. Krsna is Supreme scientist and many more could be said. So why science has to put stamp of approval on what Krsna has to say, what sadhus have to say, what Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavatam has to say, why? Is this scientific? Could you prove it scientifically? Could be proven, It is a science. To begin with this is a science, original science, the best science. Science of the soul, science of God, sastra.

‘yah sastra vidhim utsrjya vartate kama karatah na
Sa siddhim avapnoti na sukham na param gatim’ (B.G 16.23)

So anyone studying, continue your studies. Study physics, study chemistry, study this, study that. Study germs, worms (Laughter). So many persons, they take one germ and the whole life, they are focused on one tiny germ. The movements, the life span the tendencies, likings and disliking of that germ. Whether germ or something of that sort. We are studying whole life. Study little bit of that but lot of times we invested in studying who we are. Who is God? Where and how we exist and what is my relationship with Him? And once we have Him, we have everything.
Srila Prabhupada used to say so, one department, another knowledge, another property, this that. Different different zeroes. There is no ‘1’, then all these zeroes put together and one big zero. Okay I’ll stop. Any questions? Quick questions. There is so much to talk about. I am sure Radheyshyam prabhu, another prabhus have been talking to you and you have been discussing this. We are happy to see so many students from all over the planet. All over the country have assembled here. This is a rare opportunity for us to see such a scene. Young people, of course why should we wait for our body are rotten and then make an offering of rotten. The fresh flower, fresh fruits of this season. And you are the fresh fruits of this season, of this world. And all of you should be offered at the lotus feet of Sri Krsna.

Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaj used to talk like this, a garland of jivas. ‘Prabhupada, we have come from the West and here are 108 new bhaktas.’ As if they are like a garland and they are being offered to Srila Prabhupada. Please offer them to Sri Krsna. Bring them to Sri Krsna, offer them garland of flowers or garland of fruits. So here we see nice offering. Why you should be serving Maya, you should be serving Krsna. This is the proposal of Krsna, this is the proposal of all the great sages and saintly persons and our ancestors have talked like this. Only when we started imitation of the West and as they made us the slaves for almost 1000 years by the Muslims and the Britishers and then the Dutch and French. Then we lost the track, we get distracted. Even after the independence. Okay we have independence so that we could have Rama raja. We’ll establish the principles of Rama, Krsna. This was the vision. but again forgotten as soon as we had the first Prime Minister of India. He said, ‘Oh this dams, the bridges and the factories, these are our temples. These are the places of worship or us.’ Although born in a Brahmin family, as he was born in a Brahmin family, but he was brought up and his education in the West, he was very much influenced by the West. He used to get his cloths ironed in Paris. And they used to bring his cloths to Delhi from Paris, ironed cloths. Then he would put on his cloths. He was influenced like that. He wanted his whole country like that. Again the modern science, we are modern scientific and industry and technologies, the way to go. So many promises made by technology and the industrialist civilization have been not fulfilled. And the ill effects of that modern technology and industrial lifestyles are about to… in front of us. 10% of all Indians are having kidney trouble. Well because I just happened to read this two days ago. One of every 10 Indians is having kidney trouble. And heart trouble, so many other kinds of troubles. Someone else kidney trouble, but someone else with some other kind of troubles. Soon Indians to be on the top of the list of HIV, the Aids we are leading. We are getting there, we’ll be number one. I was in Africa, the life span of south Africa has been reduced to 33 years. With more than half the population is suffering with the Aids. Shame! Matter of shame.

The most sick country in the world is America and the terrorism. We cannot have a sleep at night. You have nice bed, you could buy bed but not sleep. You could buy food but not hunger. There is no hunger, no sleep because of anxiety or so many things. This is the spirit of enjoyment. It is the result of enjoyment. Suffering is here catching up with us. We should wake up. If we cannot wake up everybody, we could start by waking up few people. I can see here, good gathering here, woken up or waking up. ‘tamaso ma jyotir gamaya’ Get out of the darkness, go to the light. Light of what? Light of Supreme Personality of Godhead is light. Krsna is ‘surya sam maya hai andhakar’. Light of Bhagavat, light of Bhagavad Gita, be knowledgeable. Know who you are then proceed. Stop, think and proceed.
So this is the proposal of International Society for Krsna Consciousness. This was what Prabhupada all life long, he was talking this language on behalf of Krsna. And in only 40 years ago, there was just him by himself. And you will be happy to know, I am sure you know. Already so many hundreds and thousands millions of followers… The Krsna Consciousness has reached 160 countries in 40 years. It’s good news or no? Haribol!! And it’s just the beginning. That means people around the world; Krsna Consciousness is in big demand. And it is the only alternative. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way. Krsna is the only way, Krsna Consciousness is the only way. The holy name is the only way to get Krsna. So continue with your studies and whatever else you have been doing in your life. But add Krsna, know Krsna and spread this knowledge of Krsna around which is called Krsna Consciousness. This will do good to you, your family. This is good for your family. Because your family is also souls, family of souls. This will do good to our country, to the humanity. And all the living entities will be benefitted by this message of Bhagavatam. By knowing that, that refers to knowing Bagavatam, knowing Bhagavad gita, one can return to Him, return to Krsna and personally meet Him. That is what we said in the beginning. This is nice proposal, wonderful proposal of meeting with the Lord. And Narada Muni is speaking from his personal first time experience. Such meeting is possible and this is our birth right to meet Krsna.

Prabhupada’s spiritual master said, ‘This political freedom is not that important. More important is to make the soul free from the shackles of this bond of this material existence.’ That is why in 1922, Prabhupada was about to join Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom movement. He had already started wearing kadhi cloths and attending meeting. Also going to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, his underground meetings. And as he met with Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati, he said, ‘ No no, its more important to take up the mission of Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu seriously. And make people free from illusion. Free from ignorance. Ignorance is cause of suffering, make them knowledgeable.’ And Prabhupada took that instruction very very seriously. Thank God that this instruction was given by Bhakti Siddhanta and he took it seriously also Prabhupada. As a result, what is happening? As a result we are sitting here today. Someone is talking and others are hearing and others will also talk further about this. So it started in 1922 with Prabhupada taking this mission very very seriously; spreading the knowledge, making the people knowledgeable. I am sure you will like not to forget Krsna. We can’t forget. He is so wonderful, how could you forget Him. Forget everything else. It’s all rubbish, all temporary cause of suffering. Embrace Krsna, go for Krsna. Meet Krsna, personally meet Krsna, Start meeting, Radha Kunjabihari is Krsna. See Him, see with the knowledge what you have heard and stand before Him. And chant His glories, chant His holy names in front of Radha Kunjabihari. Take Krsna Prasad and every person that you care… I care for my parents. I care for my friend. I really want to care, do something useful. If you are thinking like this, please share this Krsna Consciousness with them. Then and then only you have done something tangible, substantial for them. Otherwise this ‘ahara nidra bhayam maithun’ business goes on. Don’t think this eating, sleeping, roti, kapra, makaan, everyone is provided.

Whether in the bird society, animal society. Just because they don’t have university, they don’t have parliament, they don’t have Super bazaar or big bazaar like in Pune; they have big bazaar now. Is this big bazaar going to make Pune happier? Don’t be in illusion. We guarantee Pune will be more suffering in years to come. Pune vasi show us hand and ask us, ‘Please give us your predictions.’ So we will say, you are enjoying? Yes yes. You want to enjoy? Yes yes. Material way? Yes yes. You will suffer!! (Laughter).

We don’t have to curse anyway. Why should we be cursing? But we could only speak the truth. We guarantee suffering. Well, I don’t have to do anything. It is all programmed. It is all planned. So curb down this enjoying spirit independent of Krsna. Of course there is so much enjoyment in relationship with Krsna. So much enjoyment. So much to enjoy. We are not inviting you to come and suffer with us. Radheyshyam is not inviting, he is going all over the country and bringing young people and preaching to them. So that they would nicely suffer (laughter) He is not envious. Don’t think he is suffering and he wants us also to suffer. In fact, he is enjoying and he wants to see that everyone else also will enjoy. Enjoyment all the way, only enjoyment. ‘pratipadam purnamrtasvadam svadhu svadhu pade pade’. We guarantee that kind of happiness for everybody. Whole humanity could be enjoying for following this path shown by Sri Krsna described in Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam. And could be realized by chanting Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.

Questions:
Question by devotee
: Hare Krsna Maharaj, please accept my humble obeisance’s. So many times we hear about this philosophy, we should love God. We should serve God. We will be happy. But at the time of chanting the holy name, we are not able to concentrate. We are not able to relish. It is like a burden for us. How can we improve in our process of hearing so that sufficient effect will be there?

Maharaj: There is nothing wrong in Holy name. The same Holy name that Narada Muni chanted has been handed down to us to this day. Same potency, ‘krsna caitanya rasa vigraha naam cintamani rasa vigraha’. Its full of juice and full of anand. How you apply is important. What is the other way? Okay, you are in a boat. The boat is in the ocean. Well, some difficulty with the boat or something. Should you be jumping in the ocean again? Is that how you will be saving yourself? Fix the boat, repair the boat or just… Something wrong with the boat. Just fix it. Then you will survive to cross over. Not that there is something wrong with the boat, so I’ll just jump off the boat. And then you will be in the deep trouble of the deep ocean. So having faith in chanting the holy name, that is also required. So anyone who could give us that faith, association of those faithful devotees.
Prabhupada gave the example of the jaundice. Someone has the jaundice, sugar candy is the way. The person eats sugar candy but he says, because of the sickness of the jaundice, the sugar candy even taste very bitter. He says, ‘No, get me another type of medicine.’ You want to be cured. This is the only medicine. And if the person goes on eating that sugar candy, then he will be cured. And as he is cured, he will also experience the sweetness of that sugar candy. And the time will come when he will say, ‘Hey get me more, get me more sugar candy.’ Its finished, “No no go buy it!’ So Holy name is very very sweet. There is list of ten offences in Nectar of Devotion one should be avoiding.
‘aparadh sunya hoi lao krsna nama’

So become free from aparadhs. Endeavor to become free from aparadh. Faithfully keep chanting to the Holy names of the Lord. Caitanya Mahaprabhu took to the chanting and He went mad. We will say same thing. Narada Muni was enjoying, Caitanya Mahaprabhu also was enjoying and He goes to His Guru maharaj. “The Holy name is so sweet. What kind of mantra you have given to Me? ‘japite japite mantra karila pagal’ I become pagla baba. I become pagal, mad man by chanting these Holy names. ‘kiba mantra dila gosani kiba tara bala’. (CC Adi 7.81) So much bala, so much strength, so much sweetness in this chanting. I have gone mad, I can’t just sit. I have to get up and dance. What is this?” So the same mantra. This chanting of the Holy name is same mantra deliver, very kindly delivered to us by Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The properties of the Holy name and the soul are very similar. They are of similar characteristics. They belong to same world, same family. They have eternal connection, relationship. So just push yourself, don’t stop. Keep going, keep chanting. You could discuss further. Maybe take advice what changes could be made in your some habits or some lifestyles, your dealings with other matters or of the world. The Holy name is potent and sweet. So we encourage everyone to chant. Don’t stop, success is not in stopping. Beg Holy name. “My dear Holy name, please I beg You. Please reveal unto me. Please forgive my offences. Give me intelligence oh Holy name so that I can avoid offences”. You could be personal with the Holy name. Because Holy name is Lord Himself. You could reveal your heart to the Holy name. And the Holy name is very very kind. He will listen to your sincere prayers.

One more question?
Question by devotee:
Please accept my humble obeisance’s, Maharaj you talked about Lord Buddha. We know that God is God from eternity. Nobody becomes God. But still in case of Lord Buddha, we see that at a certain point of time He gets enlightenment. And He performs austerities…What is the purpose of His behavior in that matter, like He went out and sees things and then He performs austerity. He neither went to gurukul nor anywhere.

Maharaj: Maharaj laughing
, Well, He is God. He doesn’t have to go to any gurukul. But on other hand, to become God realized, He is performing austerities, the penances and meditation. He is teaching by His example, ‘yad yada carati srestas’. Buddha didn’t go to gurukul and became disciple of spiritual master. And Krsna went to Ujjain and He became disciple of Sandipani Muni. It was not necessary. He is God, not necessary for Him to become disciple. He is source of all knowledge. Rama, He also became a disciple. Sri Krsna Caitanya Mahaprabhu, He also had His guru. He found His guru in Gaya, in the same town. Caitanya Mahaprabhu had gone to Gaya. Buddha was enlightened in Gaya. Same Gaya Caitanya Mahaprabhu met His spiritual master. So They don’t need to accept spiritual masters. But they are playing these roles, setting examples so we could learn from that. But as a God, They may not sometimes follow the whole thing, all the steps, so in case of Buddha. Some formal acceptance of spiritual masters, other gurus also, who was it? 24 gurus, Dattatreya, He had 24 gurus. Even a prostitute, a child and a whole list, a pigeon, earth, water, fire like that… There are 24, so He is learning from them.

Caitya guru, Lord in the heart, paramatma in the heart is the first guru. In fact, because we do not listen to Him, Lord in the heart, then He comes out. Or comes in front of us in the form of spiritual master. Or Lord speaks His message through somebody through His pure devotee who plays the role of spiritual master. So Lord would like to talk to the soul. The soul and Supreme soul, they are sitting to each other. Katha Upanishad describes how this body is like a tree and on this tree there are two birds. One is atma, other one is paramatma. They are just next to each other, they are neighbors forever. In everybody the soul gets, embodied soul, the Lord is there. So He is speaking. But we are so dull headed and what not. So we do not listen to what He has to say. The same Lord is then trying to teach us through the agency of the spiritual master. And there are so many other agencies around that we could learn from. Lord Buddha did not accept the formal initiation. He is Lord, He doesn’t have to…for He heard the Lord in the heart. For what He saw, He came to conclusion. Those things, the dead body was His guru, made Him think seriously. Is that okay?

Question: What about the austerity?
Like it appears that, if we follow Him then one need to perform austerity to get enlightened. Austerity in a different way.

Maharaj: Sure, without austerity you cannot achieve anything. One of the big big austerity in this world these days is to stay together. Staying together is a big austerity. The wife and husband, they don’t want to perform that austerity. Or so many other nations are getting broken into pieces. The big crowd, even brahmacari ashram is hard. That’s one austerity. There are varieties of austerities to be performed. By body, some by tongue, vaca, some by mind. Austerities one must perform in every Satya, Treta, Dwapar, Kali. There are different means to achieve that goal for purification. Austerity are there, with the austerity comes the purification.

‘tapo divyam putraka yena sattvam suddhyed
yasmad brahma sauthyam tu anantam’ (SB 5.5.1)

As one performs austerities, tapa, tapa. Brahma heard these two words in the very beginning. He didn’t know, what I should be doing. What is my goal. What is expected of me. And he was curious to know. ‘athato brahma jijnasa’. He heard two words, two letters ‘ta’ ‘pa’. And as he put those two words together, ta…pa, ta…pa, tapa while he performed austerities. He goes back to the lotus, he sits there and he performs austerities. So the very first and only being at that time in the whole universe, he starts his spiritual life with austerities. And that tapasya purifies one and with that comes the real anand, real bliss, real life. So tapasya is for cleansing, cleansing body, like to make our talk refined. It should be refined in our speech. Of course no vulgar language, no nasty dirty things. Speak the truth, this is austerity. Be kind, with the mind, of course whole thing starts with the mind. If the mind is not purified, through the word and body, we’ll be committing sin and offences. So the austerity of mind is there, of the speech, of the actions. Krsna describes this in Bhagavad Gita. So austerities that He performed, Buddha performed and we also perform. Chanting of Hare Krsna, this is tapa. This japa is tapa. This japa is yajna. This japa is archana, this japa is dhyan. Tapa is there,

“samo damas tapah saucam ksantir arjavam eva ca
jnanam vijnanam astikyam brahma-karma svabhava-jam” (BG 18.42) Krsna is talking.

Sharing mercy of Srila Prabhupada

Venue: ISKCON Nagpur
Dated: 16th August 2015

We should hear katha with shanti and silence and then hearing will give you all benefit, in between the ear and atma there is mana you should take care that mana does not create disturbance in hearing.

“ankulasya sankalpa pratikulasa varjanam”

Yo u are all welcome for Sunday feast, last time in Purosotam masa we heard the Mahima of Harinam. Yamraj said to his dutas bring those who don’t bend in front of Lord and those who don’t chant harinam. In vrindavan we did Bhagvat mahatmaya that was shown online on mayapur TV. Do you watch TV? yes this TV you can watch, iskcon TV you can see sitting at home.

Then I went to Jagannath puri for Navakalevaram utsava new deities were installed. It was a great experience. Special darshan of Lord Jagganath. Lord Jagannath walks in a special style His devotees carry Him. Lord puts His merciful glance on all His devotees.

“jagannathah svami nayana-patha-gami bhavatu me”

May that Jagannatha Swami be the object of my vision. Please come on the path of my vision. I experienced at a moment that Lord is just looking at me. Then at Pandarpur I reached for ashadi utsava. Do you go to Pandarpur? Haribol Pandurang is also Krishna.

“panduranga panduranga vithala vithal”

Lord standing on brick, 20 lakh people had come for darshan of Vitthal. Some came walking in that we had two Hare Krsna dindis. They walk for 18 days then 18 hours they stand in queue for half second darshan of Lord Vitthal that’s enough for the devotees darshan of Lords lotus feet. There are very less temples in India where they allow touching the lotus feet of Lord and Lord Panduranga is one of them.

“sadhavo hrdayam mahyam sadhunam hrdayam tv aham” (S.B 9.4.68)

The pure devotee is always within the core of My heart, and I am always in the heart of the pure devotee. My devotees do not know anything else but Me, and I do not know anyone else but them. Once in Pandarpur devotees could hug Lord Vitthal they call methi in Marathi, the two hearts very close. Lords heart and devotees heart that was 100 years back now they stopped that system.

Then I went to China from Pandarpur, “sarvatra pracara haibe mora nama” “In every town and village, the chanting of My name will be heard.” (Caitanya-bhagavata, Antya 4.126)

This preaching has reached to China also; I was not the only one to go. Srila prabhupada send HH Tamal Krsna Goswami to china for preaching. There are 2000 serious Hare Krishna devotees. Bhagvat gita is translated in Chinese language and distributed all over. Our team distributed 1200 Bhagvat gita to Chinese. The people there were kirtan preme, once in kirtan they were sitting and clapping then they all stood and then they started dancing. I was surprised and very happy to see them dancing. We distributed mantra cards to them. They can’t pronounce hare they say hale hale and then slowly they said hare hare…they all paid fees to attend kirtan program it was not free.
Hindi chini bhai bhai, I told them this in one program; in 1962-63 childhood I heard this Hindi chini bhai bhai. I was confused what is this- Hindi is language and chini is sugar how’s that possible a language and sugar are brothers. Then as I grew older I understood what it meant when I came in contact with Srila Prabhupada. So how we become bhai bahi? When we have common father the Lord then we become bhai bhai. Same Lord is sitting in every bodies heart “aham bija-pradah pita”. We are all brothers Hindi Pakistani bahi bhai . People all over the world are brother’s bhai bhai.

In China some people following Christianity had also come for the program their rosary beads also had 108 beads. Many people are ignorant also they don’t know who the Lord is. Lot of preaching of Buddha dharma is there in China. Then I returned back to Delhi then Kolkata for the celebration of Srila Prabhupada’s journey to west on 13 August 1965; 50 years completed. Prabhupad was born in Kolkata and in Kolkata he got instruction from his guru to preach in English in the west in 1922. Then full life Prabhupad was preparing to go to the west. Prabhupada lilamrita describes his entire mission. In 1922 he got instruction and in 1933 he got initiated your name is Abhay Caran, ac not ac of railway its Abhay Caran Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. Then in 1944 he printed back to god head magazine, in 1955 he took vanprasta -you want tea or me he asked his wife and humorously she said of course I want tea. She was not aware that Prabhupada was serious. Then he went to Jhasi.

Then in 1966 ISKCON was established in New York. Jhasi devotee said ISKCON was conceived in Jhasi and delivered in New York. Prabhupada said ISKCON is my body. But how he went to New York via Nagpur. Prabhupad wrote dairy the name of that diary is Jaladutta dairy. Then in 1977 Lord gave Prabhupada 11 years for establishing dharma. “dharma-sthapana-hetu sadhur avatar” (Sri Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya-lila Chapter 17 Verse 185) he established dharma in the whole world.

So in Kolkata we celebrated golden jubilee at Netaji stadium its capacity was 12,000. And it was full pack for 12 hours. Delegates from 107 countries had come. Srila prabhupada ki jai.
That was the most auspicious moment when Prabhupad went to west that was the starting of his preaching mission. We all devotees went for darshan of birth place of Prabhupada. When Prabhupada was small he used to go for darshan of Radha Govindev and used to keep looking at the Lord.

His father was a great devotee. In such family Prabhupada was born. Many sadhus used to come to his house. And his father Guar Mohan Dey used to ask the sadhus please bless my son that he becomes a devotee of Radha rani. Prabhupada used to organize small ratha yatra when he was small. And used to tell his sister after ratha yatra we will distribute prasad so keep prasad ready. This was all preparation lifetime preparation. Senapati bhakta -Srila Prabhupada. So many of us collected here but Iskcon started with one person that’s Srila Prabhupada. Caitanya Mahaprabhu preached in India during his yatra but for the foreign land preaching he appointed Srila Prabhupada he left it all to Prabhupada to ISKCON.

Srila prabhupada made famous Lords name all over the world in a very short time. Because of his efforts we are all blessed by golokera prema dhana he made us rich.

Vivekanada swami also preached in west and one lady was inspired and came to India and Prabhupada brought many and many devotees.

The glories of Acharyas should spread in all brahmanda. Prabhupada ki jai

Let us all push forward the mission of Srila Prabhupada

Thank you for being here in good number. Happy birthday to me, good days have come. Its Lord’s mercy He gave me birth on this auspicious day. Lot of devotees come on this day to meet Lord. “vitthu maza lekurwada”.
I was born on tuesday in Aravade, Lord Rama was born on Tuesday. So they named me Raghunath as its Lord Rama’s name. My mummy mazi aai used to love me a lot. She used to take me to temple and she used to say fold your palms and pray and I used ask her what to pray?? And she used to say ask for Buddhi. Then Lord heard my prayers and finally I became Hare Krsna wala. Then my elder brother came to Mumbai to take me back. And said to Lord we never told to give him such Buddhi. My family used to think that one day Raghunath will become engineer and come to village with motorcycle. But I went with bullock cart with padayatra to Aravade. I was studying in Sangali initially but my family said you go to Mumbai University for higher studies. That’s how Lord inspired them to send me to Mumbai.
Then I went to Mumbai. Once in pandal program I was giving Introduction of Srila Prabhupada. I said Srila Prabhupada is exporter and importer; he exported holy name to America and imported American sandhus. I was lucky to have darshan of Srila Prabhupada. I was inspired by his kirtan. I always had this desire to serve country..humanity.. But was not sure how to start it.

“Yatha taror mula nesechanena” – When you put water at roots then fruits will come. Srila Prabhupada said we also want to serve our family, country, humanity then you should serve Lord. Then my eyes opened. We always have propensity to serve someone. So we should serve Lord. One is guru and other laghu. Phone has become cheap and talk has also become cheap. So if you want to really serve some one then serve Lord through Krsna everybody will be served. I also brought few books of Srila Prabhupada also japa mala.

Then I started living in kohinoor lane with some of my villagers in Mumbai. I was student of chemistry. And I used to keep grantha in the chemistry book and read. And my parents told my villages keep an eye on him he should not run away and they were happy seeing me reading rasayan that is chemistry. But they were not aware what rasayan I was reading. When nobody was in room I used to sing kirtan like I heard from Srila Prabhupada.

I used to regularly go to hare krsna land juhu then I decided jina yaha marna yaha… I wrote a letter to the president there to join. I wrote in the letter dazzling arti, ecstatic kirtan, prasdam, which I had copied from the pamphlet which I got from there. Then I went to meet the president and told him I want to join and he announced new bhakta here new bhakta here.

Britishers came for business here and then captured us. So Indians were not joining in Hare Krsna. Indian used to say these foreigners are CIA. Yes we are CIA- Caitanya Intelligence Agency... So very less Indians were joining. So the hare krsna land people were very happy to receive me they welcomed me. And then they took me to a place where a barber was waiting for me. So in one hour I was hare krsna devotee. Same evening they took me to a place and I was told to translate lecture of H.G. Gargamuni prabhu. So in two hours I became a preacher. Then my family came to know about me. They got the pamphlet of Hare Krsna festival. Then they understood. I would be there. Then my elder brother came to take me back. If you don’t come back mom will not live. Family was telling me stay at home we will make a temple here for you. But I wanted to stay in Hare Krsna temple. All villagers used to say. He was a very good boy now he has become mad. My mom went to an astrologer and he said he will come back. But his bhavisyavani went wrong. I went back to Hare Krsna land by Srila Prabhupada’s mercy.

Srila prabhupada made me fortunate and you also make others fortunate by giving them hari nama. Let us all push forward the mission of Srila Prabhupada. You will need to take now responsibility on your shoulders. Time is less and lot of seva is pending. I can’t do it alone… I need help… We all together will protect, expand, this Hare Krsna society. You all love Srila Prabhupada, you are premi bhakta of Srila Prabhupada. But Srila Prabhupada said you show your love by cooperating with each other after I am gone. This is how you show your love for me. Srila Prabhupada is siksha guru for all of us…… Every one related to Krsna is to glorified…

SrilaPrabhupada ki jai…
Radha Pandharinath ki jai…
