The Mystery Morning in Krsna’s Palace

Title – The Mystery Morning in Krsna’s Palace

Parikshit said, and he’s speaking to whom?
Whom is he speaking to? Uttara… Uttara.
Mother Uttara. His mother, Parikshit’s mother.

“Tat krsutvā mahā prema rasāveśyanantitā
Mahavishnu priya vināhāsto vismitāh kilaḥā.”

He says, “aaiye” addressing his mother:
Oh noble lady, when Narada Muni heard in Hastinapur, he heard about that uh devotee, he rushed to Dwaraka. “Mahā-prema āveśena yantritāh”.
So when he had heard about Uddhava, Pandavas had really glorified Uddhava. By hearings about Uddhava, qualities of Uddhava, devotion of Uddhava and Uddhava, Uddhava.
“Mahāprema rasa āveśena.”

He became full of mahāprema rasa. No translation required. Oh, this is better to say mahā-prema-rasa. Mahā-prema-rasa. Āveśena – āveś. He was filled with mahā-prema-rasa and now this mahā prema rasa, the source of Uddhava was now controlling him, handling him. He was being governed by those mahā-prema-ras was yantritah. He had no freedom. He was governed by what? Mahā-prema-rasa was making him dance or talk or do whatever. He had no freedom. He was just mahā-prema-rasa-āveśena yantritah. Mahavishnu priyah – Mahavishnu is described as Mahavishnu priya. Mahavishnu or Badri Narayan priyah he’s that level bhakta, devotee.

He had a veena in the hand, but because he was overwhelmed with this devotional ecstasies and feelings, and he although he was holding, but he was not able to play. He was so excited and he’s running, jumping, rushing to:

“Sadāt dwāravati vās-abhyāsat.” So he has reached Dwaraka and going… go straight. No, no one is telling him go. He just goes straight, turns left, right there, and he ends up right in front of palace of Shri Krsna. How did he manage? He did not stop and, “hey please tell me which way to go I want to go to Krishna’s palace.” He did not inquire but he reached exactly in front of the palace of the Lord. The reason being, he had visited he had visited Dwaraka many times in the past. So he knew how to get there. “Abhyasta” – he had practiced going there. In Bhagavatam we know how many times, or quite often, he would go. Narada Muni would go one time he went, he was going door to door, home to home, to see whether queens are happy, how are the affairs? and uh… so because of his frequent visits of Dwaraka, previous visits, he was able to reach the final destination, which was for him, Shri Krsna in Dwaraka, in one of his palaces.I just reminded somebody 40 years ago I heard this in London. The devotees were someone has died and they were driving to the cremation ground and they were being guided by a GP. Yes. What? GPS. Yeah. So go turn 5 kilometers this way. Turn there [unclear] and when they reached at the cremation ground, the GPS said, “You have reached your final destination.”[Devotees laughing]. You know devotees had heard this many times before, but today, that day, they really heard this: “You have reached your final destination.” This is where finally you went. Narada Muni’s final destination was Shri Krsna, his lotus feet. So he has reached there.“Prabhu Prāsādād” Prabhu prāsād. Prasād is the palace. It’s amazing how he reached because he had gone there many times in the past.

“Bhuta viśtaha, Mahāunvāda grahitāśtha yathetaraha” – and when he reached there he was like a ghostly haunted person. The way he was acting and behaving and doing all sorts of things, all assembled there. Wha… Wha… Wha… What is happening with our Narada Muni? So what was what did they see? “Bhumo kvāpī skalati” – Narada Muni was while trying to come in that direction, to reach that palace, they were watching him coming he was stumbling, you know, he was tripped “Patati” – He was falling down “Tiṣṭhati aceṣṭaha” – and then getting up but once he’s up, he’s just motionless like a pillar. The next moment, “kvāpi anukampam bhajati” – the next moment his body is trembling, shaking like [unclear] then next one “luṭati” – he collapses and begins rolling on the ground “Kvāpī rodati ārthaha.” The next moment he is crying in a great distress. “Kvāpī akrośām kirtibhihi” – and then other moment he is shouting out loud. Scene is changing from moment to moment the next moment he is with his veena and singing nicely, singing, playing his and also some nityam, gāyan he is also dancing and this is all happening because: “prema sampad vikāram” – prema sampad vikāram. Because he had acquired the sampatti, the wealth of what? What kind of wealth? Prem sampatti. Prema sampatt as a result, all these transformations – vikār – were taking place in his personality.“Tasmin ahani kenāpi vaimānakśena, hey mātara idānītvam sāvadhānatarā abhava.” as he was about to, King Parikshit was about to begin his narration of this sixth chapter. He says: “My dear mother, pay full attention, be attentive.” “Stheratāṁ prāpayanti māṁ sadhairyam shṛṇu idam svayam” – be steady, fixed, focused. Sadhairyam – with all patience.

“Shruṇa-idam” – what now I have to say, please listen to this so it’s also a reminder for us, the listeners, savadhan… Sadhu Savadhan, Vaishnava Savadhan. Now he’s getting savadhan. Hmm… in that chanting tape Prabhupad says, sit properly – savadhan. The army people or policemen you know just before their parade or something, cause they assemble and they’re talking to each other, gossiping in spaced rows, and their commander comes and first thing he says is “Savadhan.” then immediately all those, they stop everything else, ready for the next command. He says left, left, left, right, left. Then they all follow their command, says Savadhan so king Parikshit was – “Mother, sāvadhānataā bhavā” – Be savadhan, and listen to this. The morning that Narada Muni arrived in Dwaraka, that day was very special or unusual morning in Dwaraka. For Dwaraka-vāsis in Krsna’s palace, something abnormal was going on. “Tasmin ahani kenāpi vaimāna-kṣena vaiṣmaṇaha antaḥprakośthe suktaśchaprabho-pāśvam vihāvasaha.” so that morning Lord Shri Krsna, he was in some kind of distress he was suffering he was, he was up, he had woken up, but he was still lying in the bed with his face covered with cloth or pillow and he was not doing the morning chores and he was not doing that and all those who normally come and greet him, meet him and take part in palace um affairs and activities, they all had come or they were all waiting Uddhava – he had gone in the inner chamber where Krsna was sleeping but not up. Realizing that he wants his own time, space, doesn’t want to be disturbed, Uddhava goes outside and he sits at the entrance of the palace where there’s some kind of raised terrace kind of arrangement he’s sitting there around him are: “Baladeva devaki cha rohinī rukmini tathā” – these personalities are also sitting. You’re painting a picture of that morning. Yeah. Dwaraka, the palace, Lord Krsna is still in the bed, Uddhava. Where is Uddhava? At the entrance and he’s surrounded by Balaram, Devaki, Rohini, Rukmini, “Satyabhāmā Ādhāyā anyāścha divyaha” – and there are many queens have also come, including Satyabhāmā, which is one of the big names among the queens.“Padmavaticha sahaha” – and there is a lady called Padmavati. There’s a new character for most of you. “Kamsa māta” – she’s the mother of Kamsa her name is Padmavati and what is she like? What is she known for?

“Pravṛttihāriṇī” – she always like to gossip famous for prajalpa, spreading rumors.“Dāsīs tathā paraha” – and so many ladies, dāsis, are also sitting around, waiting for Lord to get up so that they could serve. Yeah, I did not mention one thing very important – Sanatan Goswami, not only he wrote or compiled Brihad Bhagavatamrit text but then he wrote a commentary called auto auto-commentary. He wrote a commentary on his own work, his own scripture called Dig darshini, so that the readers will have a deeper understanding of the subject matter, giving additional information, facts, circumstances, missing links so Gopi Paranand Prabhu also has not only given the original Brihad Bhagavatamrit text and translation of it, but there is also commentary has been not fully completely translated but partially some parts of the Dig darshini commentary is also included the commentary of this verse is precisely why Krsna was disturbed Parikshit will reveal to his mother a little further on in his narration. So only mentioned that Krishna was disturbed and King Parikshit did not say more he wants to save this for a little later, thinking if, “Oh, I say everything now to my mother Uttara will be disturbed this is too early. I will reveal this a little later on.”and in the same commentary Sanatan Goswami writes about this famous or infamous character Padmavati.

In Padma Puran there’s a little mention that, uh yes, she’s was Ugrasen’s wife and her father is King Satya Ketu. So one time Padmavati had gone to her father’s place sometime soon after the marriage with Ugrasen and there comes a messenger of Kubera, who was a demon called Dumila, and he had disguised himself as Ugrasen he was looking, he did all makeup huh, like Ugrasen and Padmavati thought that this is my my husband coming, but he was the demon, demoniac messenger of Kubera so he came and did his business. He seduced her and the child born of this union illicit union was Kamsa. Now you know why Kamsa was, what he was.

“tūṣṇīṁ-bhūtāś ca te sarve vartamānāḥ sa-vismayam
tatra śrī-nāradaṁ prāptam aikṣantāpūrva-ceṣṭitam”

When then all saw, they all were sitting waiting already, going through the special extraordinary situation at palace. Sri Krsna was up but not getting up, not leaving the bed they were facing their situation and there comes Narada Muni and they were surprised the way he was acting and they had never seen him acting like the way he was acting that morning. It was obvious to them that something was seriously wrong. All the residents of that palace, Uddhava and Balaram and Rukmini and others, they thought there is something seriously wrong, but they could not discern exactly what, they could not come to any conclusion what is wrong today why is our Lord not getting up, meeting us, greeting us, involving us with? Nonetheless, they now had to attend to Narada’s arrival. They were already in some kind of trouble, and here is another one. Here comes Narada and he’s also acting very abnormally and then they have to face that situation.

“utthāya yatnād ānīya svāsthyaṁ nītvā kṣaṇena tam”

So when they saw Narada Muni, they all got up and went forward “This way please come, please come.” and they brought him to that entrance. They were themselves waiting at the entrance and as well they had to make a very special effort to calm him down, normalize him they took a cloth and wiped his face, which was all wet with the tears, and then gradually they started addressing, talking with Naradji.

“Śanaiy laghu” – Gently and simply they spoke. What did they speak?

“adṛṣṭa-pūrvam asmābhiḥ kīdṛśaṃ te’dya ceṣṭitam” – says never ever we had seen you the way you are looking today. “Ceṣṭitam” – your behaviour. What happened? Suddenly what happened? Never in the past we had seen, but today you are acting like this. “Tuṣṇīm upaviśākśanam” – Please sit down here. Please sit down here quietly. Calm down, calm down and he is made to sit down.

“Sadgadgadam uvāca Aśrudhāra militālochane yajñādunmilaya-natvā sakampam pulakāchitaha”

Narada replied in choking voice. I mean he had all the symptoms were kind of subdued or withdrawn but as soon as he was asked, “What is the matter? Why are you acting like this?”
As he wanted to respond, immediately he reverts back into the previous mindset and all the symptoms are again becoming visible – body begins trembling and tears are there.

“Narada uvāca” – and Narada now explain, give reason why. Well, I said I had no choice, you know. And it’s not I did not do anything so that I would act the way I am acting. But I will tell you what is the cause why I’m acting up. Time flies when you have fun, time flies. So Narada Muni is remembering what he had heard in Hastinapur, what Pandavas had said about Uddhava. He is the one that Buddha is – he’s “kṛpā bhājanam, saubhāgya eka bhājanam.” He is the one very fortunate, most favourite devotee of the Lord and Narada Muni says, please, please arrange my meeting with Uddhava. Trouble is when he was full of tears and trembling and all, although Uddhava was right in front of him, he did not recognize him and says: “I wanna meet Uddhava, could you please arrange my meeting with Uddhava?”

Then his second thought is, “Oh if that is not possible or maybe I don’t deserve meeting with him then atleast “Tadīya-pādaika-rajo athavā bhavet” – atleast some dust from the feet of that great devotee Uddhava. Could you please get me some dust from his feet?

“Tadaiva śāntirvata me antarātmānaḥ” – If I get either darshan, if not darshan atleast dust, then I will be peaceful, I’ll be pacified, satisfied.

Oh please, please get my [unclear] arrange my darshan with him and like that Narada answered this question about cause of his strange behaviour. He started explaining the reason for his strange behaviour. He’ll be talking more what transpired, what happened, which resulted in his strange behaviour.

Yeah, so Narada Muni will be sharing and then Buddha, like previous those devotees, each one, “No…no… not me, you know there’s someone else.”

So Buddha is also going to say, “No… no… no… not me. Those Vrajavasis, those cowherd boys and parents of Lord and the gopis and the Radharani, they are the priyatam. They are the greatest of all devotees.” and then others will also be talking. Balaram is going to talk, rohini is going to be speaking, padmavati is also going to contribute and while all they are talking who is hearing? Lord Sri Krishna is not far from there is listening to all of this. Then what happens to him? What is transpiring and transformations and finally when he gets up what would be he be talking and doing? There’s quiet a drama ahead of us…
